Communication In The Workplace Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of communication in the workplace can be a challenging endeavor,
demanding a delicate balance between theoretical concepts and real-world application. One must
navigate through a plethora of intricacies, including interpersonal dynamics, organizational
hierarchies, and the ever-evolving landscape of communication technologies.
The difficulty arises from the need to seamlessly integrate theoretical frameworks with practical
examples, providing a comprehensive understanding of the nuances involved in workplace
communication. Striking the right tone, maintaining a scholarly approach, and ensuring the essay
remains relevant to a diverse audience further contribute to the complexity of the task.
Moreover, delving into the multifaceted nature of workplace communication requires a thorough
exploration of various aspects, such as verbal and non-verbal cues, cultural influences, and the
impact of digital communication tools. Each of these elements adds layers of intricacy to the
writing process, demanding a nuanced and thoughtful analysis.
Research becomes paramount in addressing the depth and breadth of the subject matter. This
involves consulting academic journals, reputable sources, and staying abreast of contemporary
studies to ensure the essay reflects the latest insights into workplace communication dynamics.
The challenge lies in synthesizing this information coherently, presenting a well-rounded
perspective while avoiding information overload.
Furthermore, maintaining originality in thought and expression is crucial to stand out in the realm
of academic writing. Balancing the integration of existing theories with personal insights and
innovative ideas without straying from the essay's core theme requires a skillful touch.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on communication in the workplace demands a meticulous
approach, combining theoretical knowledge with practical examples, navigating through the
complexities of interpersonal dynamics, and staying abreast of the latest research. It is an
intricate task that requires not only a solid understanding of the topic but also the ability to

Compare And Contrast Afghanistan And United States
The three Countries I chose to talk about are, Afghanistan , China, And United States.
I chose these places because they are in different regions of the world, with different
development levels and population. Taking a look at the PRB I ve noticed some great
differences between these countries. Afghanistan has a high and stable birth rates, but
its still low in populationcompared to the other countries, this is due to a high
mortality rate of infants along with, 45% of its population under the age of 15 and
2% of the age of 65. I believe this to be a result of lack of resources and medicines of
this low developed country, putting it in the second stage of demographic transition.
On the other hand, China, a much more developed country is complete opposite.
This country has a low fertility and mortality rate, with a life expectancy rate of 75
for both sexes which is greater than the world s rate of 71.. With... Show more content

This is important because it reflects people living standards in each country. Showing
United States to be the most dominant financially. Poverty is one of the biggest
global issues in existence. Many people, mainly children suffer from disease due to
lack of medicine, proper heath facilities, food and poor living conditions, many even
being homeless. I believe it is one of the biggest issues that affects these numbers that
are being reported, the United States is a much more developed country than
Afghanistan, this is why there are such drastic differences between the two. China
also being a high developed country does not suffer much either, but the over
population growth has been affecting this country in more negative than positive
Immigration Laws And Policies Are Unfair
Immigration has been an existing occurrence ever since the first of humans and
persisted as land continued being discovered. There has always been major
controversy over this subject, both public and political, especially in the country of
America. Immigration laws and policies are unfair because many of these people are
not what citizens depict them as. When people think of immigrants their thoughts
automatically connect to Mexicans, field workers, and crossing the U.S./Mexico
border. What many Americans forget is that the United States was founded off of
immigration, everything from America s discovery by Europeans, to African slavery,
and has followed up to current day cultural diversity. Illegal immigration should not
be a real concept because most of the accusations that are connected to immigrants
are not true and are based solely on stereotypes and there are further issues associated
with this process of deportationthan the ones that initially appear. Regardless of the
common claims that are directed at immigrants, there are many statistics that support
the more positive aspect of these aliens. One of the many things that cause many
people to oppose immigration are that many immigrants have low living standards or
are simply living off of government welfare programs. The Center for American
Progress actually stated that Less than one in five immigrants live in poverty, and
they are no more likely to use social services than the native born Americans (CAP,
Pros And Cons Of Charter Schools

Progressive Development of Charter Schools in Arizona

Executive Summary
While the idea of charter schools has been apparent since the early 1990 s, many
states including Arizona are thriving on the establishment of alternate learning
opportunities for its pupils. When choosing a schooling environment appropriate for
your child it may serve as an aid to consider how Arizona has become the nation s
largest contributor to charter school options¬¬ and how their programs are
affecting student achievement compared to traditional district schooling.

While policymakers are readily seeking ways to improve the academic success of
chartering organizations, Arizona is given a huge opportunity to provide leadership
and usher the way into the next era of education.

Taking a Look at Chikungunya Fever
Chikungunya Fever
Chikungunya virus causes chikungunya fever, a highly symptomatic and acute illness
often followed by chronic arthritis. The name chikungunya, in fact, came about by the
symptoms that developed upon infection. From the Makonde language, chikungunya
means, that which contorts or bends up. This refers to the bent position of those
experiencing the chronic arthralgia (Bettadapura et al., 2013). Though investigation
has been ongoing, there is no information regarding any specific viral proteins that
are known to play a role in disease.
Incubation of the virus lasts 1 to 12 days. The course of chikungunya fever involves
two stages: acute and chronic. Acute stage is characterized by joint pain, rash, and
fever (Kucharz et al., 2012). The pain of the joints, known as arthralgia, is typically
presented in the hands, wrists, ankles, and feet. Back and larger joints are also
afflicted. Other common symptoms of the acute stage are chills, malaise, vomiting,
and photosensitivity. Atypical symptoms of the acute stage involve cardiovascular or
respiratory problems (Kucharz et al., 2012).
Acute symptoms last for a couple of weeks but some symptoms may persist for
months (Weaver et al., 2012). The chronic stage exhibits predominantly in the form of
rheumatism, which can last indefinitely (Kucharz et al., 2012). Investigation has
reported that persistent joint pain caused by chikungunya virus is correlated with
high levels of IL 6 and GM CSF. Moreover, natural
Doomsday In The Odyssey
This poem is relatively related to my childhood. When I got some toys from
McDonalds, I played with it for a while, and set it aside. Then I picked it up again,
played with it for a while, then set it down again. Over the next few weeks, it always
went missing, or I threw it in the bin. This is of resemblance to the boy and the
Trojan warrior toys. Now, I have become more mature and I always either donate, or
keep my old toys in a box for my younger acquaintances because I have learned to be
more responsible and to not waste resources.
I created the mood for the audience using rhyme and some word choices. For
example, in the first stanza, all my words were ending with oy, and contains
alliteration like jumping with joy to give it a sing song and light hearted manner,
which heavily contrasts with the word choice of doomsday giving it a foreboding
or a foreshadowing manner. The birthday is happy for the boy, but the Trojans are
neglected because of the new action figure, therefore having a doomsday effect. This
also brings out the boy s character, a person that likes new things but dislikes the old.
This crushes the devoted image towards the Trojans, just like a seemingly caring
mother abandoning her son/daughter(s). There is also evidence for this in the second
stanza. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have used special line breaks in the sad parts of the poem, examples are lines 16
25, to create a slow, dark and dull moment. It is also to list, as shown in lines 30 32.
I have also used personification throughout the whole poem. I made the Trojan
warrior toys alive, by making them attack and create mayhem . They seem to also
have feelings like sad and sunken . They can think like humans, having a logical
mind, knowing that their time was done when the boy took the action figure out again
and therefore deciding to run. I portray them having internal human body parts like
blood and hearts in the last stanza
A Comparison Of Frederick Douglass And Realism
Realism. It is a word that speaks for itself. It doesn t sweat the details or exaggerate
the truth, for what it is. It is a word that sees the bigger picture that others might
not. Realism was a reaction to romanticism, after the events of the Civil War. It
gave signs, such as photography, biographies and Daily News articles, down to
earth/slice of life genred stories, and other roots that told our society that told
everyone that life isn t exactly what romanticism portrays. It even got us to realize
that not all individuals felt equal to society, despite their previous history at the time
saying All men were created equal. Former slaves and women alike, such as
Frederick Douglass and Kate Chopin were deprived of knowing what being in control
of their own lives really felt like. From having to be in conflict with others and
themselves to the irony behind it all, they both share similarities in their work to
prove it.
Douglass, the author of My Bondage and My Freedom , a story that looks back on
his early life as a young child during slavery, states many of what most of those like
him in slavery would think. Douglass wanted to be treated as fair as those above
him in society, and be accepted for who he was. He longed to be as free to be as
literarily inclined as he wanted to be, along with the white division of individuals.
Throughout his life he has been, confronted by one of his masters and a few other
unmentioned people in his life for having such a
Essay On Enslav African Americans
Enslaved African Americans and Native Americans approached health and healing
encompassed both physical and spiritual in curing for the body. Healing involved the
entire community, the elder s knowledge of herbal medicine, spiritual vision from
ancestors who had passed on, and powers stemmed from natural forces. The
colonization of North America by Europeans annihilated the Indian population as
they made contact with European explorers. Native American s knowledge of herbal
medicine was no match for a number of imported germs and viruses the Europeans
brought with them along with their barbarism. Enslaved African American developed
their own health techniques and practices to cure for themselves as well as protecting
their communities from white medical scientific experiments. Native Americans who
occupied the land before the arrival of the Europeans possessed a vast knowledge of
botanical medicines that intrigued the newcomers. The natives mixed roots, herbs,
and plants to cure various medical maladies. Healing for the natives were not just

These practices were similar to that of the Native Americans. As the black men and
women were subjugated and confined into harsh labor on the Plantation in North
America, they continue to practice domestic medicine, rituals and ceremonies which
involved calling on supernatural forces to cure and heal the sick. African Americans
approached to health and healing was in the context of communal health. In curing
for the sick, African American healers drew healing powers from the understanding
of spiritual vision from which the power of the ancestors played a central role. They
incorporated ritual practices and ceremonies to gain knowledge, power, energy, and
strength that enabled herb doctors to secure herb combinations to cure an ailing
Political Campaign Contributions Of The United States
Essay
Political Campaign Contributions Recently in the U.S., the most frequent
mentioned topic would be 2016 presidential election. People on both sides have
donated to political campaigns from the very beginning. And one of the concerns is
that can campaign donors write off any of these contributions on their federal
income taxes? According to the IRS, the answer is a very clear NO. You can t
deduct contributions made to a political candidate, a campaign committee, or a
newsletter fund. Advertisements in convention bulletins and admissions to dinners
or programs that benefit a political party or political candidate aren t deductible,
informed in IRS Publication 529 (Political Contributions, 2015). It is also non
deductible for any of the portions of dues to lobbying or political activities. Public
funding of Presidential elections means that qualified Presidential candidates receive
federal government funds to pay for the valid expenses of their political campaigns in
both the primary and general elections. Most political contributions, for the obvious
reason of creating a more politically disinterested taxsystem, are not tax deductible.
Political contributions and its limit have a long history and evolution process. In
1896, an Industrialist named Mark Hanna made excessive amount of contributions to
candidate William McKinley. It was controversial of the growing influence of big
business in American politics. People then started to have voice regarding to

Autobiographical Memory
What did you have for breakfast today? What did you have for dinner this day a
year ago? If asked these questions, most people would be able to answer the first,
but have trouble answering the second accurately. Memory is not perfect, and it
does not last forever. However, there are a select few individuals that have an
ability to recall specific autobiographical details from across their lifetime, thus
answering the second question would not be difficult at all. They are classified as
having an ability called highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM). HSAM
is a relatively recent discovery, so there are a lot of questions surrounding the
condition. However, researchers have made progress in discovering the nature of
HSAM, possible links... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amygdala, which is involved in emotional response, may play a part in social
and self referential processing. The amygdala likely adds emotional, social, and self
relevant information to autobiographical memories (Ally, Hussey Donahue, 2013).
Perhaps then there is hyperactivity in the amygdala system for HSAM patients. In
addition, other regions of the brain may be involved in HSAM. 6 out of 9 identified
regions have size and shape differences in patients with HSAM compared to patients
with normal memory capabilities (LePort et al., 2012). Structural differences could
also include increased grey and white matter in other parts of the brain including the
hippocampus, which is involved in memory, compared to individuals with regular or
poor memory (Palombo et al., 2015). The structure of fibers in white matter may also
cause greater efficiency in information transfer between brain regions in individuals
with HSAM (Mcgaugh LaPort, 2014). Plainly, there are some neuroanatomical
differences involved in the superior memory individuals with HSAM
Pampers Physical Development
Pampers is a renowned diapers company, and has built an advertisement campaign
around flaunting the illusive dream that all parents hold. That dream being that their
adorable infant will sleep happily through the night, and finally allow their tired
parents to be able to do the same. This is all made possible through Pamperstriple
layer diaperdesign, and 12 hours of dry protection. The photograph above was taken
from a scene in a 2016 commercial titled, Olympic Baby Dreams released during the

A newborn will sleep for a total of around 15 to 17 hours a day, and by the age of
one will triple in weight (Berger, 2016, p.91). This is due to the fact that during
sleep a substantial amount of growth takes place, and is therefore why infants
spent so much of their early days sleeping, although sporadic. While growth is
occurring in nearly every aspect of an infant the development the strengthening of
muscles leads to the progression of motor skills. Motor skills are a learned ability
that allows regulated movements of a body part (Berger, 2016, p.100). The
movements of large muscle groups are the first to develop and is referred to as the
development of gross motor skills (Berger, 2016, p.101). Development usually
progresses from the head down and radiating from the center out to the periphery
(Berger, 2016, p. 101). In some cases reflexes help to develop and strengthen these
muscle groups. For example, when an infant is placed on their stomach they will
attempt to lift their head, and flail with their arms in order maintain vision and in
turn practice mobility (Berger, 2016, p.101). The lifting of the head processes to the
strengthening of the arms and legs and the ability to crawl and eventually the ability
to walk around the age of one (Berger, 2016,
Ronaldo s Acceptance Of Goods By Benjamin
5.Ronaldo s acceptance of goods by Benjamin
Here arises the issue of whether Benjamin had the authority to sale the cargo to
Ronaldo. It can be claimed that there are two opinions on this subject.
On the one hand Benjamin never became lawful holder of the shipment under
s.19(3) of SOGA 1979 and as a result he had no right on the goods property. This fact
and in combination with s.21(1) gives no property to Ronaldo.
On the other hand Ronaldo can rely on s.25(1), as Benjamin did not notice him
regarding his previous transaction with Maurice. Benjamin got the cargo from
Maurice in good faith33, which also happened with Ronaldo receiving the same Bill
of Lading from Benjamin in line with the definitions given in s.2(1) s.2(4), paying ...

Additionally, if we take the view that property had not passed to Benjamin, then
s.39(2) also gives Maurice the right of stoppage of the goods as s.41(c) s.44
confirm that the unpaid seller Maurice has exercisable rights on the goods.
However, what confuses the case is that Benjamin had already sold the cargo to
Ronaldo. If Maurice had taken action against Benjamin prior to the re sale, then no
such issue would have arisen, as the property would be an issue between these two
parties which means that Maurice could exercise his aforementioned rights against
him , but now a third person has the title of the goods and has nothing to do with the
conflict between Benjamin and Maurice since he acted in good faith. Accordingly,
under s.43(1)(b) Maurice s rights on the cargo cease to exist, since Ronaldo lawfully
obtained the bill of lading by Benjamin. In support of his statement s.47(2)(a) also
provides that no lien, retention or stoppage can be exercised on the consignment.
To sum up, since the action against Benjamin was effected after Ronaldo had
acquired the title of the goods, Maurice had no right on the cargo.
8.Stoppage in transit Letter of indemnity Non delivery of the goods
According to the definition of the transit period in s. 45(1) SOGA 1979, the goods
were in transitu when the transactions between the involved parties took place.

Heart Failure By Cambria Diehl
Heart Failure
Cambria Diehl
California State University, Chico
Heart failure, HF, is a result of one s heart inefficiently pumping blood out to the
body (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, 2014, p.766). A healthy heart will
pump blood out of the left and right ventricles rhythmically and simultaneously,
creating an even flow of blood from the heart to the pulmonary arteries and the aorta
(Lewis et al., 2014, p.769). Someone with heart failure has a ventricular dysfunction
in either one or both ventricles; the ventricles are not filling or contracting properly.
The failure of one ventricle to properly function leads to an overcompensation of the
opposite ventricle as well as a disruption in normal blood flow that leads ... Show

The right side of heart will increase in size as the muscle builds up and the heart
rate will increase due to compensation for the left ventricle. With auscultation, the
lungs will sound crackly from the liquid in the alveoli and interstitial space and
when assessing respiration rate it is likely to be above thirty breaths per minute
(Lewis et al., 2014). The patient may report that they are experiencing dyspnea,
nocturia, fatigue, and a productive coughing. They may appear anxious and their
skin may look pale (Lewis et al., 2014). On the other hand, if the right side of the
heart fails, then it will cause a portion of the blood from the ventricle to flow
backward creating problems in venous circulation. Blood pressure in the veins will
cause edema in multiple areas of the body. Peripheral edema may be visible in the
lower extremities of the patient as they will appear swollen in this area, like the
abdominal region (Lewis et al., 2014). The swelling of the spleen and the liver
may not be visible but it can be present depending on the progress of HF. The
jugular vein will look bulging from pressure built up called jugular venous
distention (Lewis et al., 2014). The heart will have a murmur and tachycardia may
be present. A few other signs of heart failure are liver failure and weight gain
associated with kidney failure (Lewis et al.,
The Physics Of Chemical Kinetics
Investigations into the mechanics of chemical kinetics can reveal invaluable
information relating to the rates of reaction. There are numerable applications of
reaction rates, knowledge in this area is pivotal for industrial, commercial and
research sectors. Thus, allowing them the ability to manipulate a variety of factors of
chemical reactions with the use of reaction rates. In the scope of the kinetics of clock
reactions, there is a range of information that can be obtained about reaction rates
(Shakhashiri, 1992).
A clock reaction is characterised by an abrupt colour change following an established
time lag (Lente et al, 2007). The induction period in a clock reaction is a result of low
concentrations of the clock chemical (i.e. the chemical that enables the final
reaction). The induction period ends after the total consumption of a limiting reagent,
which initiates a short increase in the rate of product formation, resulting in a visible
colour change (Schmitz, 2010)(Lente et al, 2007). The reaction rate of clock reactions
is subject to factors including temperature, concentration, catalysis and inhibition.
These factors can be manipulated, thus changing the length of the induction period in
a clock like manner (Shakhashiri, 1992).
Changes in the rate of reaction can be described in terms of chemical equilibrium.
Chemical equilibrium is a state in which the forward and reverse reactions take place
at the same rate (Wilbraham et al, 2002). The relative

The First World War ( Wwi )
Along history there have been persuasive speakers who through their voices have
changed the world. They have mastered the art of persuasion and became leaders
in order to inspire people to follow them and believe in them, to fight for their
country because of patriotism and honor, and they unite masses for the best for the
humanity and others for the worse. The First World War (WWI) left leaders that
implementing strategic messages dedicated to the people made a paradigm shift by
that time causing a revolutionary change and a tragic and unnecessary conflict, as
Keegan describes the Great War. Leaders in WWI such as David Lloyd George, the
Liberal chancellor of British, Thomas Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the United
States, and later Adoft Hitler during WWII, are remembered for their persuasive
approaches.
By definition, a persuasive speech is a message strategically designed to induce
change in the audience in some way consistent with the speaker s purpose (Pearson
330). Mrs. Price explains how Aristotle defined three kinds of persuasion furnished:
The first kind, ethos, depends on the personal character of the speaker; the second,
pathos, on appealing to the emotions, values, and beliefs of the audience, and third,
logos, on the proof or logic. Many leaders have mastered the three types before
mentioned and demonstrated that it is an invaluable tool that can change the world.

Analysis Of William Wilson A Trick Of The Mind

A Trick of the Mind Every story has a protagonist and antagonist, often thinking of
them as two different people with either similar or coinciding personalities and
traits, the battle between good and evil. However, the protagonist and antagonist
could also be the same person. Everyone always has different emotions we all have
our own, dark side, or for some, their own alter ego. This idea of a dark side, is a trait
which strongly resonates in Edgar Allan Poe s protagonist William Wilson in his
short story William Wilson. William creates a visual alter ego of himself. William
Wilson s alter ego, is a trick on his mind, with a lack of parental support, which is
created by the need for control, and finally the insecurity within his own self.
William Wilson s lack of parental support causes his poor mental health. He
introduces himself by stating his personality; I wanted people always to do things
my way; I acted like a wild fool; I let my desires control me. (Poe 6). William, even
from a young age, is born with a controlling attitude, to everyone around him, even
his parents. He also despise his parents, considers them as weak and unhelpful, My
father and mother, weak in body and mind, could do little to hold me back. (7). He
also dominates his parents. We also see his parents are weak where he is strong,
asserting his dominance, When their efforts failed, of course my will grew stronger
(7).
An Adaptive Intern At Tiger s Gymnastics
Challenges:
One of the challenges as an adaptive intern at Tiger s gymnastics is working with
kids with a wide range of disabilities. Most of these disabilities I have never been
introduced to before, and what I am learning is that the actives I do with one kid,
might not be an option for another. The best method I have figured out, is to take
things slow. I let the gymnast set the pace, and I react based off their confidence level
and willingness to participate.
A lot of the gymnasts I work with have limited verbal communication skills. How
they express their wants or displeasure may come in the form of grunts, screams, or
physical movement. Recognizing and deciphering these actions at times can be
tricky. Giving the gymnasts plenty of notification on what we are going to do next,
and paying attention to their body language when a request is given, seems to reduce
the amount of times that they will panic or be unhappy with what is going on.
One challenge that I have faced internally, is not being afraid to be goofy around the
kids. At first, I was worried that acting silly would be embarrassing, but I quickly
realized that it didn t matter. The point is that the gymnasts have a good time and
enjoy themselves, and not my own level of comfortability. Once I got over the fear
embarrassed, I realized that all the coaches around me were doing the same thing,
and nobody was paying attention at all minus my gymnasts who enjoyed my goofy
and silly behavior.
One aspect that I
The Twelfth Night By William Shakespeare
Within Shakespeare s plays, there are many ways in which characters play with
gender stereotypes. Through changes to appearance and personality, characters
disguise themselves to fit in with the opposite gender. Cross dressing suggests that
because the characters are female, they do not have the appropriate power they need
for the situations they find themselves in, and when they achieve that power, they are
still femaleand still manage to fulfill their goals. So, for a womanto have power does
not mean she needs to stop being female but to stop being perceived as a female so
she can be treated differently. In The Twelfth Night, Viola disguises herself as a
man in order to find her brother and in The Two Gentlemen of Verona Julia also
dresses as a man to travel to Milan and visit Proteus. Both of these women find
themselves in challenging situations, who use unique strategies in order to cope and
subtly opposing genderroles.
Shakespeare (1564 (baptised) 1616) was an english playwright. His plays have been
translated to many different languages and they have been repeatedly adapted. Not
only do his plays continue to stay popular, they are constantly studied, performed and
reinterpreted through different cultures around the worlds. His plays hold many
stereotypes of men and women in their roles in society, but he also questions,
challenges and changes those representations. He allows female characters to struggle
within and against social expectations so they, like
Similarities Between Porphyria s Lover And Do Not Go...
Author s use their writing to discuss death in different ways. Robert Browning s
poem Porphyria s Lover has few similarities with Do Not Go Gentle into that Good
Night by Dylan Thomas. These authors have drastic differences when talking about
death. Browning discusses how killing is a power play in a poem about ... and
Thomas talks about the transience of life in a poem about fighting death. In one of
Robert Brownings most unsettling dramatic monologues, Porphyria s Lover,
Browning tells a story of a man killing his lover in order to preserve her love for him.
When the poem opens, the speaker is describing the chaotic weather outside. To
establish the mood, he keeps this in iambic tetrameter. Browning uses iambic

In Porphyria s Lover the main theme is power. Browning leaves us clues about the
theme throughout the poem. To start with, when the speaker is describing the
weather outside It tore the elm tops down for spite, suggests how powerful the
storm is. The whole poem the speaker is fighting for power against Porphyria. At
first he lets her keep all the power, but when she is not expecting it, he kills her to
gain full power over her. The speaker reduces Porphyria to an object, a corpse that
he could manipulate. Though in Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night the main
themes are mortality and transience. Thomas knows that death is inevitable but he
wants his father and all the elderly that are, close to death to fight it off for as long
as possible. Thomas conveys the theme of transience by comparing how good men
s lives are flying by. Thomas says, Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
/ Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, good men s lives are passing
away easily. All of their accomplishments will die out and everything they were

Genetically Modified Organisms And Its Effects On
Humans...
GMOs Genetically modified organisms also known as GMOs are used to change
the DNA of animals and plants by using crossbreeding methods ( GMO Facts. The
NonGMO Project RSS. Web. 4 Mar. 2015.). These altered organisms are used to
improve our food and are thought to be a good way to feed the rest of the world,
especially undeveloped countries. But what most people don t know is that
GMOs are poorly tested, unsafe, and are found in most foods in the market.
Genetically modified organisms are not properly tested. In fact, the FDA abstains
from conducting a safe study of it s own. As a result, the United States
Government relies on a study conducted by the same company that created
genetically modified organisms and has approved the usage of GMOs to grow
this nations food. Not to mention, this study has only proven that consuming
GMO foods do not have an effect on humans within ninety days. This is not long
enough to see if it has a long time effect on humanity. This study can only benefit
GMO companies for profit purposes. ( GMO Facts. The NonGMO Project RSS.
Web. 4 Mar. 2015.) Since then, over one thousand seven hundred studies have tried
to prove that modified foods are safe. Sadly, most of these studies have proven
otherwise. ( Home Earth Open Source. Earth Open Source. Web. p. 102. 4 Mar.

How Is 1984 Technology Related To Today
Throughout the novel 1984 by George Orwell, we get an idea of what kind of
technology they have and how it s similar to today s technology in 2018. This is
interesting because Orwell wrote this book back in June 8.1985. One thing we see
is how their government controls most of their technology and has these big screens
called telscreen in their homes. The government put this so they could spy over
their citizens to see if they do anything wrong. The government made a figure for
this called big brother and he s always watching. I just find this interesting because
how much of this technology that Orwell had made up for the purpose of his book,
we have in today s modern time.

I believe that orwell had an idea on how the future might turn out because of all the
things that they we re inventing back in the 1980 s. An example of this in the

the things in the novel weren t invented yet, yes there might have been something
similar to a television but the telescreen is a mix of video and servalens so they

I say yes some of things things might have been on the brink of creation but for
George Orwell had an idea on how the future would change with the birth of new
technology. However George Orwell have an idea on technology so advanced for
his time? We see in the book and in the movie 1984 that they have many different
machines. These machines we see are similarities in today s modern machines.
Another one of these machines in 1984 is a flying machine that flies over people
and takes pictures of them and of the commutie. The purpose of this machine is to
make sure their citizens are following the rule and to let them know that big brother

The Operating System Linux
3. Linux
3.1 Introduction:
The operating system Linux is an open source version of UNIX [6]. In 1992 [8]
Linus Torvalds, who was a computer science student at the University of Helsinki [6],
was the one who started this operating system.
Linux is used on variety of hardware (e.g. on workstations, mid and high end servers
and on gadgets), which makes it unique [6]. Linux keeps maintaining its position in
the market due to the hard work of both employees and volunteers [6].
Previously, UNIX systems used batch jobs, which run a process until it is finished and
then the next process will run [8]. What UNIX used is known as non preemptive
scheduling [8]. After years, preemptive scheduling was used to run processes in
parallel by switching between them [8].
3.2 Scheduling Technique: Linux scheduler is based on Time Sharing Scheduling
technique [7], which means It can effectively schedule tasks that have strict timing
requirements . The CPU is divided into small sections, which allows many process to
run simultaneously [7]. Time sharing depends on timer interrupts [7].
3.2 Scheduling Priorities:
The priority ranges differ for real time tasks and normal tasks in Linux scheduler
[1]. In real time tasks: priorities vary from 0 to 99. In normal tasks: processes
priorities range from 100 to 139. Processes who have higher priorities are
numerically lower than others [1].
Normal tasks are appointed priorities based on their nice

Pros And Cons Of Rene Descartes
Descartes ideas of perception are presented through his meditations. In this essay,
an argument will be developed as to what Descartes views on our perception are
and what are the issues in the way in which he delivers his arguments. Meditations
from I IV will be critically analyzed and counter arguments as well as the flaws in
which Descartes comes to some of his conclusions and claims.
The term perception is the idea that the ability to see, hear, or become aware of
something through our everyday senses. These senses then help one in which
something is regarded, understood, or interpreted. Descartes, first meditation starts
off by questioning which of our beliefs are true and if our perception through our

At this point Descartes notes that though he was made by God. The first thing to
note is that Descartes has decided that God exists and his arguments for why God
exits are explained through the use of s method called the Cartesian circle. The
basis of this argument is that Descartes is a clear minded human. It it s difficult to
accept the claim that Descartes has a clear and distinct thoughts in his mind and
whether he is entitled to this claim. In denying his beliefs Meditation 1, it is
evident that his belief of God was never denied. There have been arguments that
God doesn t exist due to the definition in which God is given. God is defined as an
omnibenevolent, omnipotent and omniscient being with other characteristics that
make him perfect. Due to this definition of God, Descartes argues that God is
incapable of being a deceiver to Descartes and his thoughts. Humans are too
defined as being extensions of God. If we are all extensions of God, then there are
flaws to God as showcased in the way humans behave. Imperfections in the world
created by God who is defined to have the power to eradicate that of evil (or the evil
being) highlight that God is therefore not omnipotent. Descartes brings in the idea of
the evil being, being able to deceive Descartes thoughts. This then contradicts the idea

The Myths of Vietnam Essay
Contending versions of the Vietnam War and the antiwar movement began to
develop even before the war ended. The hawks version, then and now, holds that the
war was winnable, but the press, micromanaging civilian game theorists in the
Pentagon, and antiwar hippies lost it. . . . The doves version, contrarily, remains that
the war was unwise and unwinnable no matter what strategy was employed or how
much firepower was used. . . Both of these versions of the war and the antiwar
movement as they have come down to us are better termed mythsthan versions of
history because they function less as explanations of reality than as new justifications
of old positionsand the emotional investments that attended them (Garfinkle, 7).

Continuing questions about whether N.A.T.O. involvement in the former Yugoslavia

While the controversy over the war has often been reduced to simplistic pro war or
anti war arguments as illustrated in the opening quotation, a more nuanced reading
of post war literature shows many more areas of controversy. All of these
controversies cross over from hawks to doves and back again. Much of the post war
controversy over Vietnam can be summarized in four myths .
The first myth is that the micormanaging civilians in Washington lost an otherwise
winnable conflict. A second myth deals with the degree to which the radical,
countercultural anti war movement forced President Nixon to end the war. A third is
the Rambo myth which claims that American prisoners of war were kept in captivity
in Southeast Asia after the cessation of American military involvement and may still
have been imprisoned into the 1990s. And lastly, we will examine the myth that the
US government would never knowingly harm its soldiers.
These four myths have been examined in numerous books published since the end of

who is quickly named captain and begins an upward trajectory for his team. No one

(I m done bragging, I promise.)
McDavid, unsurprisingly, has been a huge factor on the score sheet as well. He has
19 points in 16 games played this season, and is a +5. When the Oilers took the ice
in Pittsburgh, McDavid assisted on all three of their goals. The Penguins ended up
winning 4 3 in a contentious, evenly matched game.
The Leafs visit to Pittsburgh was far less leveled, in that the Penguins took a
decisive 4 1 victory after putting 49 shots on goal. Crosby picked up a goal and an
assist in that time, while Zach Hyman, of all people, was the only one to score for
the Leafs. Does that mean Matthews is in a slump?
Spoiler alert: Not at all. He s played fifteen games and it was physically impossible
for anyone to keep up the torrid scoring pace he started out with. He s nineteen. He
also has a weaker supporting cast than both McDavid and Crosby do.
Plus, he s still got 12 points six goals and six assists and is tied for the Leafs point
lead with Mitch Marner and William Nylander, both of whom are also having

Correlation Between Motivational Factors For Athletes

Furthermore, just as there are motivational factors for athletes, and that there are also
different attitudes or beliefs that athletes might have towards certain facets, such as
doping or wanting to be successful. It is imperative that one understands that those

associated with those athletes. Going forward, there will be an in depth examination

As stated before, although the motivational factors are quite similar to the factors
affecting athletes, I believe it to be of dyer importance to depict the motivational
factors for a sports ministry from a theological perspective. There are four distinctive
theological motivations for sport ministry and they are creation, worship, redemption,
and liberty and experience. With regards to creation in sports ministry, one must
understand that it consist of two different levels.
XXXXXX
These levels of creation can either be micro creation or macro creation. For example
God can be glorified through sport because he created it. Therefore, anything
created by God can give him praise. This is why athletes can glorify God because;
they have been created by the creator (God). Consequently, a micro level of
creation would be an athlete using his or her talents to be successful but, with
sport ministry that individual is a mere reflection of Christ, because Christ was the
one who gave said individual the gift to begin with. Genesis 1:27 28 makes
references to micro creation when it says, So God created man in his own image, in
the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed
them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and
subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air,
and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth (KJV, 2001).

The Impact Of Applied Psychology On The Field Of
Psychology
Consider the Impact of Applied and Behaviorist Psychology on the Field
In this paper I will discuss the impact that applied and behaviorist psychology has
had on the field of psychology. J. R. Angell at the University of Chicago is possibly
one of the most advanced of the functional psychologists, predicted that American
psychology was prepared for better objectivity. In 1910, he stated that it is possible
that the term consciousness would more than likely vanish from psychology, even
more than the term soul had vanished (p. 209).
The most significant impact on the field of psychology was the explication of
consciousness and its functions. During the early 20th century, psychology began to
changed dramatically; Therefore, consciousness had ... Show more content on

Angell also viewed the introspective study of consciousness as one of the most
important method of psychological research during the mid nineteenth century
(Schultz Schultz, 2012).
What persons or ideas in early behaviorism would carry out the trend that Angell
predicted?
During the nineteenth century, most psychologists viewed the emergence of
functionalism as being evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Therefore, the primary
difference was in the subject matter of their study; while structuralism attempted to
examine and describe regulations concerning psychological practices, functionalism
was the trend that was considered to be more teleological challenging, and focused
more on the concept of how and why.
As a reaction of structuralism, functionalism emerged during the twentieth century. In
comparing structuralism and functionalism, functionalism is believed to have a more
significant role in the development and subject matter of psychology. Although, the
role of functionalism was considered to be strong it was not exclusive because
behaviorism was considered by most to be the most dominant trend of psychology.
John B. Watson (1878 1958) was one of Angell s most promising students at the
University of Chicago. Watson (1913) eventually became founder of the behaviorist
school of psychology. He carried out the trend of Angell s theoretical prediction in
early behaviorism and became the first American

All these systems were designed independently, targeting different service types, data
rates, and users. As these systems all have their own merits and shortcomings, there
is no single system that is good to replace all the other technologies. Instead of
putting into developing new radio interface and technologies for 4G systems, it is
believed in establishing 4G systems is a more feasible option.
3. ARCHITECTURAL CHANGES IN 4G TECHNOLOGY
In 4G architecture, focus is on the aspect that multiple networks are able to function
in such a way that interfaces are transparent to users and services. Multiplicities of
access and service options are going to be other key parts of the paradigm shift. In
the present scenario and with the growing popularity of Internet, a shift is needed to
switch over from circuit switched mode to packet switched mode of transmission.
However 3G networks and few others, packet switching is employed for delay
insensitive data transmission services. Assigning packets to virtual channels and then
multiple physical channels would be possible when access options are expanded
permitting better statistical multiplexing. One would be looking for universal access
and ultra connectivity, which could be enabled by: a) Wirelessnetworks and with
wire line networks. b) Emergence of a true IP over the air technology. c) Highly
efficient use of wireless spectrum and

вћў SAMCO had a similar approach to management, as at SAMCO every member

My College Experience
When most people think of college, some of the first words that come to mind are
majors, boards, and diploma. The problem with this is that all of those words are
associated with academics. Although academics are a big reason as to why you go
to college, college is so much more than that. Many different student clubs and
organizations are available to apply yourself to. Being involved in more than your
classes can better your collegeexperience by widening your opportunities, creating
friendships, and making connections. Being a part of a community is very rewarding
and being involved on campus is an experience that will stick with you for a lifetime.
The past 17 years of my life haven t exactly been all fun and games. When I was
six, my parents had gotten a divorce that left two little girls in the middle in the
remnants of a messy marriage full of problems and secrets. I have since then, learned
how to live with separated parents. I remember hearing my friends talking about
family dinners they had with their mom, dad, and siblings. I remember seeing the
family pictures featured on christmas cards hanging on my refrigerator around
Christmas time. I remember my friends telling me about how they love the
holidays when their family comes under one house while mine can t stand each
other. While their childhood was full of happy family memories, all that I am left
is my parents fighting over the phone about every single thing, and my sister and I
bouncing from house to house. I hate the holidays because I don t get to
experience my family peacefully coinciding under one roof. Holidays are days of
chaos and split custody where we try to fit two dinners, games, and bonding time
in roughly 18 hours. Holidays are more of a chore when the three o clock deadline
where you have to stop what you re doing and leave looms in the back of your
mind. The time after the divorce, I was getting very familiar with babysitters and
frozen pizzas. In 2013, my dad got remarried. In 2014, my brother was born. Earlier
this year, in January, my second brother was born, and coming up in December my
mom is getting married. Life seems to move too fast when you have four families.
My childhood has taught me that life is short and very
Google And Its Relationship With China
Opening The quick advancement and progress of the internet across the world has led
to many great opportunities for American business. However, this advancement has
pushed the bounds for some countries on their stance for the free flow of information.
This has been the problem for Google and its relationship with China. The restrictions
set up by the Chinese governmentgo against the ideas and ethics of Google.
However, the presence of Google will likely help push political change by opening
some doors for accessing information. This will also have the added opportunity of
maximizing Google s corporate interests.

A business holds its responsibility to the investors with the end goal of producing
profit, but this can be considered to constrictive. Strictly running for profit might
not be the main goal for some, employees, stakeholders or customers. This could
help give a positive image for the company and its investors. Also, Google has not
created its enormous value by making shareholder value the main purpose.
Maximizing profits is an end from the private point of view; it is a means from the
social point of view. (friedman) A system based on private property and free
markets help enable people to use their resources in the most valued way. To build
a strong and efficient network infrastructure China will need private business,
entrapanuers and shareholders to invest freely. If they are in disagreement with
the company they are free to sell their stock. The same goes for customers and their
choice to vote with their dollars. Many companies have been created with the
purpose to maximize profits for their investors. It is also simply good business for
a company to provide for its customers social benefit as long as it s done by their

Types Of Hypertension And Secondary Hypertension
In the year 2000 it was estimated that about 25 percent of people worldwide had
hypertension and this number is expected to keep rising further increasing the risk
for millions in developing cardiovascular disease. There are two main types of
hypertension. Secondary hypertension is caused from an underlying disease in the
adrenal or renal systems or by use of certain medications. It is resolved when the
cause is treated or removed. Primary or essential hypertensionis the most common
type with the cause being unclear although the incidence is higher with age and
weight.

Although both of these readings are important after the age of 60 the systolic
reading is more significant due to the association with cardiovascular disease. Two to
three blood pressure readings will be taken at separate appointments before a
diagnosis of hypertension can be determined.
Although the causes of essential hypertension are unclear a number of factors have
been known to increase blood pressure. Changes either from genes, behavioral, or the
environment which disrupt the normal functions of the body may cause a rise in
blood pressure. Other factors that increase blood pressure are kidney fluid and salt
balances, the renin angiotensin aldosterone system, sympathetic nervous system
activity, and blood vessel structure and function (Bolivar, 2013). Since blood pressure
homeostasis is accomplished by multifactorial mechanisms if there is a change in one
of these mechanisms another attempts to correct this change in order to maintain a
normal blood pressure. When this system fails and blood pressure can no longer be
normalized by this method than essential hypertension results.
The kidneys regulate the body s salt balance by retaining sodium and water while
excreting potassium. Any imbalance in the kidneys function will expand blood
volumes causing blood pressure to rise. The renin angiotension aldosterone
Sfr1 Week 6 Mini Case
Before Apple Inc. decides to issue bonds in Switzerland, its management team has
to take a few issues and factors into consideration before authorizing SFr1.25bn
worth of debt to be put in the company s books. General perceptions of Apple as a
cashed up, financially dominant company are not without basis. With $194bn in
cash and marketable securities, Apple executives would need to consider if they
really need the money and what use would an extra 1.25bn in Swiss Francs be to
them. However, they need not look further than Apple s Capital Return Plan , where
Apple have executed (their) capital return program aggressively, and (they ve) now

Switzerland has traditionally been perceived as a sort of safe haven for investors
to keep their cash due to its political and economic stability. The clichГ© is
omnipresent in Hollywood movies (namely The Wolf of Wall Street), books and
various forms of media. In some ways this still holds true as several key economic
indicators still reflect positively on the economy. As of December 2014,
Switzerland had an unemployment rate of 3.2%, and GDP per capita of $54,800
(Doerr et al., 2015). As comparison, United States had 7.2% unemployment rate and
GDP per capita of $52,800. Additionally, the strength of the Swiss Franc itself
would also be a discussion point at a board meeting. Apple executives would likely
have timed the sale of their Swiss bonds after the Swiss National Bank (SNB)
surprisingly decided to unpeg the Swiss Franc from the Euro, preventing the Franc
from being affected by uncertainty in Europe. This would ve made Switzerland a
more attractive destination as the Franc has always been a strong currency when

The latest trends and the ones that are gaining the largest market share are the
production of the light beers and the specialty drinks. Gary Hemphill, Vice
President of Beverage Marketing says Light beer is the key to success in today s beer

Technology And The Bitcoin Revolution
Blockchain Technology and the Bitcoin Revolution Chris Hokett, University of
Oklahoma/Boise State University Kai Huang, Boise State University Jacob
Margrave, Boise State University The bitcoin and its underlying technology known as
the blockchain, are currently being recognized as the beginning of a new industrial
revolution . This technology has resulted in making the bitcoin the first ever
decentralized currency in existence. The digital currency itself is created as a reward
in a competition in which users offer their computing power to verify and record
bitcoin transactions into the blockchain. This activity is referred to as mining, and
successful miners are rewarded with transaction fees and newly created bitcoins.
Besides being obtained by mining, bitcoins can be exchanged for other currencies,
products, and services. When sending bitcoins, users can pay an optional transaction
fee to the miners. This may expedite the transaction being confirmed. The future of
finance could be dominated by blockchain technologies. A traceable global currency
complete with an efficient infrastructure will not only result in massive cost reduction
for all market participants, it will change global banking. Bitcoin will do for
payments what email did for communication. Although blockchain technology may
have a bright future ahead, there are still major hurdles for it to overcome,
particularly when it comes to its legality. Already, some countries have already put

Lysander s Masculinity In The Disappointment
The 17th century provides a treasure trove of literary greatness. The authors
cultivated such a tight circle so that everyone s work kept in dialogue. Aphra Behn
uses her poem, The Disappointment, as an opportunity to respond to common tropes
found in male authored writing. In lines 111 140, Behn dismantles Lysander s
masculinity in The Disappointment through comparisons to figures from Greek
mythology, thus creating situational irony around his character s ego. In stripping
Lysander of all his awful fires (ll. 113) in this selection, Behn reveals Lysander s true
feelings of impotence and, by extension, women.
Behn immediately ties Lysander to a warrior, a traditionally masculine figure, with
his name. Lysander refers to the Spartan admiral in Greek mythology. Lysander s
name undermines his masculinity because the fierce and aggressive reputation of
the Spartan culture does not align with Lysander s sexual performance. Behn uses
this identification to make him seem like he is an ideal romantic partner, but she
describes him as [the] god of her desires,/ Disarmed of all his awful fires/ And cold
as flowers bathed in the morning dew. (ll. 112 114) Behn refers to Lysander as a
god and foreshadows the connections to other Greek figures later on in the selection.
The fires Behn mentions represent Lysander s sexual passion. He is disarmed of
them and bathes in the morning dew, which is a euphemism for his premature
ejaculation. He is fiery, passionate beforehand, and ashamed of himself after.
Impotence is a negative quality and does not fit the typical image of masculinity.
Behn uses his impotence and Cloris s beauty to make allusions to mythological
figures to provide further insight into their characters.
After he proves to be impotent, Cloris runs away. Behn explains, Like lightning
through the grove she hies,/ Or Daphne from the Delphic god. (ll. 121 122) Behn
hyperbolizes Cloris s speed by comparing it to lightning emphasizes the chimerical
tone in these final stanzas. The Delphic god, Apollo, aggressively pursued a nymph,
Daphne, in Greek mythology. Apollo is the god of many things, but one of them
being plagues. The nymph is a mythological spirit of nature imagined as a beautiful
maiden.
Essay On The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner is about a boy named Thomas that is deposited in a community
of boys after his memory is erased; soon learning they are all trapped in a maze.
Wes Ball directed the Maze Runner. It is an Action, Mystery, Sci fi movie. The
goal of the movie is to escape the Maze to complete the trials. Grievers are in the
maze to prevent the characters from making it to the end of the maze. There were
many heroic scenarios on the adventure to the end of the maze. Thomas by far is
the most heroic. He runs into the maze breaking the rules to save some people that
are not about to make it out in time. Thomas also go s out with Minho to find the
exit and tricks a griever into being stuck in between two walls closing and the
griever dies. After he kills the griever, he pulls of his arm and found a key. When

1. Preface The contemporary school of thought in service science is currently
dominated by the notion of service centric services (Lusch amp; Vargo, 2008),
whereby it is believed that the end users are the determinant of value of a given
service and co producing a service with the end users would enhance the value of
the service. A main assumption made by this school of thought is that all aspect of
services, from creation to delivery process, is the domain of the service providers.
However, the emergence of disruptive technologies such as the internet, social media,

services provider themselves. This empowerment has led to the creation of what is

An example would be Yahoo! Pipes, a platform that provides a GUI frontend for
creating Web based apps that aggregates web feeds, web pages. (Nikolaos amp;
Vassilios amp; Konstantino, 2009). The necessity of such a platform boils down
to two reasons. Firstly, it enables and ensures interoperability between the various
services. Therefore, the user needs not worry about the compatibility of the
services components in the service creation process. Secondly, it reduces the
complexity of creating new services for the user, who might have differing
technical capabilities, as the implementation details are encapsulated by the
platform. C) End user as the ultimate service value creator The main value
proposition of user generated is that the end user has the final say in creating the
service, instead of being service consumers or co creator. Correspondingly, the
original service providers are reduced to a role of value co creator or suppliers. This
arrangement allows end users to customize the original service, thus enabling the
service to serve this group of end users which otherwise the original service would
not have served 3. User generated services in the mobile phone service industry For
user generated services to exist, the three following conditions must be fulfilled.

One Person Doesn T Make A Difference In The United States

generalization is one that Over the course of this paper I will give examples of
individuals who made a difference in my life, The United States and even the
world to try and eliminate this generalization. I believe that one person can make a
difference and influence others to make a difference themselves. When you take a
figure in history like, civil rights activist, Rosa Parks anyone will tell you that she
made a difference in ending segregation. Rosa Parks wasn t really a known person
until what happened on that bus in the state of Alabama. She was asked to move to
the back of a bus since she was sitting in the white s section even though she was an
African Americanwoman, but nobody was to take the seat she was sitting in and she

it was likely to break more and in ones group s panic to kill the whelps it hatched,
things would get a little chaotic and inevitably a group would break more.

World of Warcrafthas a very expansive lore and an even more expansive style of

using the entire keyboards just to cast abilities and activate skills provides a
widely varied gameplay. The average amount of buttons that is on a console
controller is 14 widely restricting gameplay, and limiting players to a more casual
experience while playing their favorite games. The lore of WoW cultivated video
games as a form of art instead of the mind numbing run of the mill shooting games
that were all too familiar. With loveable characters, amazing plot arcs, and
heartbreaking moments WoW showed the world that games can be just as much an
art form as any book or painting.
The rise of WoW to the top of the video gameindustry showed us that living in a
virtual world is not so different from living in the real world. one can perform many
of the same tasks in life that one can in WoW (barring the monster fighting, flying,
and stuff) tasks like fishing, farming, or just performing odd jobs for any Non Player
Characters (NPC) that may need it.

Martin Luther And The Reformation Of The Protestant...
Martin Luther became one of the most influential figures in Christian history. He
began the protestant reformation in the 16th century. He also called into question
some of the basic tenets of Roman Catholicism and eventually his followers soon
split from the Roman Catholic Church to become protestant. He was known to be a
very controversial man not just for his writing of the ninety five thesis but for others
and in his later years his feeling about the Jews. His teaching of the bible is what lead
to the reformation of the Protestantism. Martin Lutherwas born on November 10,
1483 into a peasant household. Luther at a young age attended school at a church
where he grew up and was baptized. At this school he studied Latin, religious
education, ten commandments, the Lord s Prayer, and the children s creed. When
Luther got a little older his parents sent him to a monastery to continue his
education. After the monetary he continued his education at Eisenach where he
excelled and rose to the top of his class. He was very smart so he was able to move
on to Erfurt where he could study law. His parents hoped that with this high up in
society profession that he would be able to get out from under the peasantry life. At
Erfurt he received his bachelors in 1502 and his masters in 1505. Both would
prepare him for studying law and a doctorate in jurisprudence.
In January 1505 Luther made a trip home and on his way back to his school Erfurt

to the striking workers. From 1873 1877, Jones actively supported laborers in
achieving their demands. She used to travel to various strike sites and instill more
passion into their strikes. She helped the coal miners strike in Pennsylvania and
railroad workers. After the Haymarket Riot of 1886, Knights of Labor started to

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Afghanistan And United States The three Countries I chose to talk about are, Afghanistan , China, And United States. I chose these places because they are in different regions of the world, with different development levels and population. Taking a look at the PRB I ve noticed some great differences between these countries. Afghanistan has a high and stable birth rates, but its still low in populationcompared to the other countries, this is due to a high mortality rate of infants along with, 45% of its population under the age of 15 and 2% of the age of 65. I believe this to be a result of lack of resources and medicines of this low developed country, putting it in the second stage of demographic transition. On the other hand, China, a much more developed country is complete opposite. This country has a low fertility and mortality rate, with a life expectancy rate of 75 for both sexes which is greater than the world s rate of 71.. With... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is important because it reflects people living standards in each country. Showing United States to be the most dominant financially. Poverty is one of the biggest global issues in existence. Many people, mainly children suffer from disease due to lack of medicine, proper heath facilities, food and poor living conditions, many even being homeless. I believe it is one of the biggest issues that affects these numbers that are being reported, the United States is a much more developed country than Afghanistan, this is why there are such drastic differences between the two. China also being a high developed country does not suffer much either, but the over population growth has been affecting this country in more negative than positive
  • 3. Immigration Laws And Policies Are Unfair Immigration has been an existing occurrence ever since the first of humans and persisted as land continued being discovered. There has always been major controversy over this subject, both public and political, especially in the country of America. Immigration laws and policies are unfair because many of these people are not what citizens depict them as. When people think of immigrants their thoughts automatically connect to Mexicans, field workers, and crossing the U.S./Mexico border. What many Americans forget is that the United States was founded off of immigration, everything from America s discovery by Europeans, to African slavery, and has followed up to current day cultural diversity. Illegal immigration should not be a real concept because most of the accusations that are connected to immigrants are not true and are based solely on stereotypes and there are further issues associated with this process of deportationthan the ones that initially appear. Regardless of the common claims that are directed at immigrants, there are many statistics that support the more positive aspect of these aliens. One of the many things that cause many people to oppose immigration are that many immigrants have low living standards or are simply living off of government welfare programs. The Center for American Progress actually stated that Less than one in five immigrants live in poverty, and they are no more likely to use social services than the native born Americans (CAP,

  • 5. Taking a Look at Chikungunya Fever Chikungunya Fever Chikungunya virus causes chikungunya fever, a highly symptomatic and acute illness often followed by chronic arthritis. The name chikungunya, in fact, came about by the symptoms that developed upon infection. From the Makonde language, chikungunya means, that which contorts or bends up. This refers to the bent position of those experiencing the chronic arthralgia (Bettadapura et al., 2013). Though investigation has been ongoing, there is no information regarding any specific viral proteins that are known to play a role in disease. Incubation of the virus lasts 1 to 12 days. The course of chikungunya fever involves two stages: acute and chronic. Acute stage is characterized by joint pain, rash, and fever (Kucharz et al., 2012). The pain of the joints, known as arthralgia, is typically presented in the hands, wrists, ankles, and feet. Back and larger joints are also afflicted. Other common symptoms of the acute stage are chills, malaise, vomiting, and photosensitivity. Atypical symptoms of the acute stage involve cardiovascular or respiratory problems (Kucharz et al., 2012). Acute symptoms last for a couple of weeks but some symptoms may persist for months (Weaver et al., 2012). The chronic stage exhibits predominantly in the form of rheumatism, which can last indefinitely (Kucharz et al., 2012). Investigation has reported that persistent joint pain caused by chikungunya virus is correlated with high levels of IL 6 and GM CSF. Moreover, natural
  • 6. Doomsday In The Odyssey This poem is relatively related to my childhood. When I got some toys from McDonalds, I played with it for a while, and set it aside. Then I picked it up again, played with it for a while, then set it down again. Over the next few weeks, it always went missing, or I threw it in the bin. This is of resemblance to the boy and the Trojan warrior toys. Now, I have become more mature and I always either donate, or keep my old toys in a box for my younger acquaintances because I have learned to be more responsible and to not waste resources. I created the mood for the audience using rhyme and some word choices. For example, in the first stanza, all my words were ending with oy, and contains alliteration like jumping with joy to give it a sing song and light hearted manner, which heavily contrasts with the word choice of doomsday giving it a foreboding or a foreshadowing manner. The birthday is happy for the boy, but the Trojans are neglected because of the new action figure, therefore having a doomsday effect. This also brings out the boy s character, a person that likes new things but dislikes the old. This crushes the devoted image towards the Trojans, just like a seemingly caring mother abandoning her son/daughter(s). There is also evidence for this in the second stanza. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have used special line breaks in the sad parts of the poem, examples are lines 16 25, to create a slow, dark and dull moment. It is also to list, as shown in lines 30 32. I have also used personification throughout the whole poem. I made the Trojan warrior toys alive, by making them attack and create mayhem . They seem to also have feelings like sad and sunken . They can think like humans, having a logical mind, knowing that their time was done when the boy took the action figure out again and therefore deciding to run. I portray them having internal human body parts like blood and hearts in the last stanza
  • 7. A Comparison Of Frederick Douglass And Realism Realism. It is a word that speaks for itself. It doesn t sweat the details or exaggerate the truth, for what it is. It is a word that sees the bigger picture that others might not. Realism was a reaction to romanticism, after the events of the Civil War. It gave signs, such as photography, biographies and Daily News articles, down to earth/slice of life genred stories, and other roots that told our society that told everyone that life isn t exactly what romanticism portrays. It even got us to realize that not all individuals felt equal to society, despite their previous history at the time saying All men were created equal. Former slaves and women alike, such as Frederick Douglass and Kate Chopin were deprived of knowing what being in control of their own lives really felt like. From having to be in conflict with others and themselves to the irony behind it all, they both share similarities in their work to prove it. Douglass, the author of My Bondage and My Freedom , a story that looks back on his early life as a young child during slavery, states many of what most of those like him in slavery would think. Douglass wanted to be treated as fair as those above him in society, and be accepted for who he was. He longed to be as free to be as literarily inclined as he wanted to be, along with the white division of individuals. Throughout his life he has been, confronted by one of his masters and a few other unmentioned people in his life for having such a
  • 8. Essay On Enslav African Americans Enslaved African Americans and Native Americans approached health and healing encompassed both physical and spiritual in curing for the body. Healing involved the entire community, the elder s knowledge of herbal medicine, spiritual vision from ancestors who had passed on, and powers stemmed from natural forces. The colonization of North America by Europeans annihilated the Indian population as they made contact with European explorers. Native American s knowledge of herbal medicine was no match for a number of imported germs and viruses the Europeans brought with them along with their barbarism. Enslaved African American developed their own health techniques and practices to cure for themselves as well as protecting their communities from white medical scientific experiments. Native Americans who occupied the land before the arrival of the Europeans possessed a vast knowledge of botanical medicines that intrigued the newcomers. The natives mixed roots, herbs, and plants to cure various medical maladies. Healing for the natives were not just herbal remedies,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These practices were similar to that of the Native Americans. As the black men and women were subjugated and confined into harsh labor on the Plantation in North America, they continue to practice domestic medicine, rituals and ceremonies which involved calling on supernatural forces to cure and heal the sick. African Americans approached to health and healing was in the context of communal health. In curing for the sick, African American healers drew healing powers from the understanding of spiritual vision from which the power of the ancestors played a central role. They incorporated ritual practices and ceremonies to gain knowledge, power, energy, and strength that enabled herb doctors to secure herb combinations to cure an ailing
  • 9. Political Campaign Contributions Of The United States Essay Political Campaign Contributions Recently in the U.S., the most frequent mentioned topic would be 2016 presidential election. People on both sides have donated to political campaigns from the very beginning. And one of the concerns is that can campaign donors write off any of these contributions on their federal income taxes? According to the IRS, the answer is a very clear NO. You can t deduct contributions made to a political candidate, a campaign committee, or a newsletter fund. Advertisements in convention bulletins and admissions to dinners or programs that benefit a political party or political candidate aren t deductible, informed in IRS Publication 529 (Political Contributions, 2015). It is also non deductible for any of the portions of dues to lobbying or political activities. Public funding of Presidential elections means that qualified Presidential candidates receive federal government funds to pay for the valid expenses of their political campaigns in both the primary and general elections. Most political contributions, for the obvious reason of creating a more politically disinterested taxsystem, are not tax deductible. Political contributions and its limit have a long history and evolution process. In 1896, an Industrialist named Mark Hanna made excessive amount of contributions to candidate William McKinley. It was controversial of the growing influence of big business in American politics. People then started to have voice regarding to regulating the
  • 10. Autobiographical Memory What did you have for breakfast today? What did you have for dinner this day a year ago? If asked these questions, most people would be able to answer the first, but have trouble answering the second accurately. Memory is not perfect, and it does not last forever. However, there are a select few individuals that have an ability to recall specific autobiographical details from across their lifetime, thus answering the second question would not be difficult at all. They are classified as having an ability called highly superior autobiographical memory (HSAM). HSAM is a relatively recent discovery, so there are a lot of questions surrounding the condition. However, researchers have made progress in discovering the nature of HSAM, possible links... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The amygdala, which is involved in emotional response, may play a part in social and self referential processing. The amygdala likely adds emotional, social, and self relevant information to autobiographical memories (Ally, Hussey Donahue, 2013). Perhaps then there is hyperactivity in the amygdala system for HSAM patients. In addition, other regions of the brain may be involved in HSAM. 6 out of 9 identified regions have size and shape differences in patients with HSAM compared to patients with normal memory capabilities (LePort et al., 2012). Structural differences could also include increased grey and white matter in other parts of the brain including the hippocampus, which is involved in memory, compared to individuals with regular or poor memory (Palombo et al., 2015). The structure of fibers in white matter may also cause greater efficiency in information transfer between brain regions in individuals with HSAM (Mcgaugh LaPort, 2014). Plainly, there are some neuroanatomical differences involved in the superior memory individuals with HSAM
  • 11. Pampers Physical Development Pampers is a renowned diapers company, and has built an advertisement campaign around flaunting the illusive dream that all parents hold. That dream being that their adorable infant will sleep happily through the night, and finally allow their tired parents to be able to do the same. This is all made possible through Pamperstriple layer diaperdesign, and 12 hours of dry protection. The photograph above was taken from a scene in a 2016 commercial titled, Olympic Baby Dreams released during the Summer Olympic Games in Rio. In the commercial various clips of babies sleeping is edited with cartoon drawings of various athletic equipment. A newborn will sleep for a total of around 15 to 17 hours a day, and by the age of one will triple in weight (Berger, 2016, p.91). This is due to the fact that during sleep a substantial amount of growth takes place, and is therefore why infants spent so much of their early days sleeping, although sporadic. While growth is occurring in nearly every aspect of an infant the development the strengthening of muscles leads to the progression of motor skills. Motor skills are a learned ability that allows regulated movements of a body part (Berger, 2016, p.100). The movements of large muscle groups are the first to develop and is referred to as the development of gross motor skills (Berger, 2016, p.101). Development usually progresses from the head down and radiating from the center out to the periphery (Berger, 2016, p. 101). In some cases reflexes help to develop and strengthen these muscle groups. For example, when an infant is placed on their stomach they will attempt to lift their head, and flail with their arms in order maintain vision and in turn practice mobility (Berger, 2016, p.101). The lifting of the head processes to the strengthening of the arms and legs and the ability to crawl and eventually the ability to walk around the age of one (Berger, 2016,
  • 12. Ronaldo s Acceptance Of Goods By Benjamin 5.Ronaldo s acceptance of goods by Benjamin Here arises the issue of whether Benjamin had the authority to sale the cargo to Ronaldo. It can be claimed that there are two opinions on this subject. On the one hand Benjamin never became lawful holder of the shipment under s.19(3) of SOGA 1979 and as a result he had no right on the goods property. This fact and in combination with s.21(1) gives no property to Ronaldo. On the other hand Ronaldo can rely on s.25(1), as Benjamin did not notice him regarding his previous transaction with Maurice. Additionally, if we take the view that property had not passed to Benjamin, then s.39(2) also gives Maurice the right of stoppage of the goods as s.41(c) s.44 confirm that the unpaid seller Maurice has exercisable rights on the goods. However, what confuses the case is that Benjamin had already sold the cargo to Ronaldo. If Maurice had taken action against Benjamin prior to the re sale, then no such issue would have arisen, as the property would be an issue between these two parties which means that Maurice could exercise his aforementioned rights against him , but now a third person has the title of the goods and has nothing to do with the conflict between Benjamin and Maurice since he acted in good faith. Accordingly, under s.43(1)(b) Maurice s rights on the cargo cease to exist, since Ronaldo lawfully obtained the bill of lading by Benjamin. In support of his statement s.47(2)(a) also provides that no lien, retention or stoppage can be exercised on the consignment. To sum up, since the action against Benjamin was effected after Ronaldo had acquired the title of the goods, Maurice had no right on the cargo. 8.Stoppage in transit Letter of indemnity Non delivery of the goods According to the definition of the transit period in s. 45(1) SOGA 1979, the goods were in transitu when the transactions between the involved parties took place.

  • 14. Heart Failure By Cambria Diehl Heart Failure Cambria Diehl California State University, Chico Heart failure, HF, is a result of one s heart inefficiently pumping blood out to the body (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, 2014, p.766). A healthy heart will pump blood out of the left and right ventricles rhythmically and simultaneously, creating an even flow of blood from the heart to the pulmonary arteries and the aorta (Lewis et al., 2014, p.769). Someone with heart failure has a ventricular dysfunction in either one or both ventricles; the ventricles are not filling or contracting properly. The failure of one ventricle to properly function leads to an overcompensation of the opposite ventricle as well as a disruption in normal blood flow that leads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The right side of heart will increase in size as the muscle builds up and the heart rate will increase due to compensation for the left ventricle. With auscultation, the lungs will sound crackly from the liquid in the alveoli and interstitial space and when assessing respiration rate it is likely to be above thirty breaths per minute (Lewis et al., 2014). The patient may report that they are experiencing dyspnea, nocturia, fatigue, and a productive coughing. They may appear anxious and their skin may look pale (Lewis et al., 2014). On the other hand, if the right side of the heart fails, then it will cause a portion of the blood from the ventricle to flow backward creating problems in venous circulation. Blood pressure in the veins will cause edema in multiple areas of the body. Peripheral edema may be visible in the lower extremities of the patient as they will appear swollen in this area, like the abdominal region (Lewis et al., 2014). The swelling of the spleen and the liver may not be visible but it can be present depending on the progress of HF. The jugular vein will look bulging from pressure built up called jugular venous distention (Lewis et al., 2014). The heart will have a murmur and tachycardia may be present. A few other signs of heart failure are liver failure and weight gain associated with kidney failure (Lewis et al.,

There are numerable applications of reaction rates, knowledge in this area is pivotal for industrial, commercial and research sectors. Thus, allowing them the ability to manipulate a variety of factors of chemical reactions with the use of reaction rates. In the scope of the kinetics of clock reactions, there is a range of information that can be obtained about reaction rates (Shakhashiri, 1992). A clock reaction is characterised by an abrupt colour change following an established time lag (Lente et al, 2007). The induction period in a clock reaction is a result of low concentrations of the clock chemical (i.e. the chemical that enables the final reaction). The induction period ends after the total consumption of a limiting reagent, which initiates a short increase in the rate of product formation, resulting in a visible colour change (Schmitz, 2010)(Lente et al, 2007). The reaction rate of clock reactions is subject to factors including temperature, concentration, catalysis and inhibition. These factors can be manipulated, thus changing the length of the induction period in a clock like manner (Shakhashiri, 1992). Changes in the rate of reaction can be described in terms of chemical equilibrium. Chemical equilibrium is a state in which the forward and reverse reactions take place at the same rate (Wilbraham et al, 2002). The relative

Analysis Of William Wilson A Trick Of The Mind Cameron Narimanian Mrs. Scott Writing Composition 6/2/17 A Trick of the Mind Every story has a protagonist and antagonist, often thinking of them as two different people with either similar or coinciding personalities and traits, the battle between good and evil. However, the protagonist and antagonist could also be the same person. Everyone always has different emotions we all have our own, dark side, or for some, their own alter ego. This idea of a dark side, is a trait which strongly resonates in Edgar Allan Poe s protagonist William Wilson in his short story William Wilson. William creates a visual alter ego of himself. William Wilson s alter ego, is a trick on his mind, with a lack of parental support, which is created by the need for control, and finally the insecurity within his own self. William Wilson s lack of parental support causes his poor mental health. He introduces himself by stating his personality; I wanted people always to do things my way; I acted like a wild fool; I let my desires control me. (Poe 6). William, even from a young age, is born with a controlling attitude, to everyone around him, even his parents. He also despise his parents, considers them as weak and unhelpful, My father and mother, weak in body and mind, could do little to hold me back. (7). He also dominates his parents. We also see his parents are weak where he is strong, asserting his dominance, When their efforts failed, of course my will grew stronger (7).

Most of these disabilities I have never been introduced to before, and what I am learning is that the actives I do with one kid, might not be an option for another. The best method I have figured out, is to take things slow. I let the gymnast set the pace, and I react based off their confidence level and willingness to participate. A lot of the gymnasts I work with have limited verbal communication skills. How they express their wants or displeasure may come in the form of grunts, screams, or physical movement. Recognizing and deciphering these actions at times can be tricky. Giving the gymnasts plenty of notification on what we are going to do next, and paying attention to their body language when a request is given, seems to reduce the amount of times that they will panic or be unhappy with what is going on. One challenge that I have faced internally, is not being afraid to be goofy around the kids. At first, I was worried that acting silly would be embarrassing, but I quickly realized that it didn t matter. The point is that the gymnasts have a good time and enjoy themselves, and not my own level of comfortability. Once I got over the fear embarrassed, I realized that all the coaches around me were doing the same thing, and nobody was paying attention at all minus my gymnasts who enjoyed my goofy and silly behavior. One aspect that I
  • 20. The Twelfth Night By William Shakespeare Within Shakespeare s plays, there are many ways in which characters play with gender stereotypes. Through changes to appearance and personality, characters disguise themselves to fit in with the opposite gender. Cross dressing suggests that because the characters are female, they do not have the appropriate power they need for the situations they find themselves in, and when they achieve that power, they are still femaleand still manage to fulfill their goals. So, for a womanto have power does not mean she needs to stop being female but to stop being perceived as a female so she can be treated differently. In The Twelfth Night, Viola disguises herself as a man in order to find her brother and in The Two Gentlemen of Verona Julia also dresses as a man to travel to Milan and visit Proteus. Both of these women find themselves in challenging situations, who use unique strategies in order to cope and subtly opposing genderroles. Shakespeare (1564 (baptised) 1616) was an english playwright. His plays have been translated to many different languages and they have been repeatedly adapted. Not only do his plays continue to stay popular, they are constantly studied, performed and reinterpreted through different cultures around the worlds. His plays hold many stereotypes of men and women in their roles in society, but he also questions, challenges and changes those representations. He allows female characters to struggle within and against social expectations so they, like

No one needs to tell us how great it feels to watch that unfold, either. (I m done bragging, I promise.) McDavid, unsurprisingly, has been a huge factor on the score sheet as well. He has 19 points in 16 games played this season, and is a +5. When the Oilers took the ice in Pittsburgh, McDavid assisted on all three of their goals. The Penguins ended up winning 4 3 in a contentious, evenly matched game. The Leafs visit to Pittsburgh was far less leveled, in that the Penguins took a decisive 4 1 victory after putting 49 shots on goal. Crosby picked up a goal and an assist in that time, while Zach Hyman, of all people, was the only one to score for the Leafs. Does that mean Matthews is in a slump? Spoiler alert: Not at all. He s played fifteen games and it was physically impossible for anyone to keep up the torrid scoring pace he started out with. He s nineteen. He also has a weaker supporting cast than both McDavid and Crosby do. Plus, he s still got 12 points six goals and six assists and is tied for the Leafs point lead with Mitch Marner and William Nylander, both of whom are also having ridiculous rookie seasons so

It is imperative that one understands that those same factors and or facets are quite similar if not identical to the factors and or facets associated with those athletes. Going forward, there will be an in depth examination of the correlation between motivational factors for athletes and those of sport ministries. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated before, although the motivational factors are quite similar to the factors affecting athletes, I believe it to be of dyer importance to depict the motivational factors for a sports ministry from a theological perspective. There are four distinctive theological motivations for sport ministry and they are creation, worship, redemption, and liberty and experience. With regards to creation in sports ministry, one must understand that it consist of two different levels. XXXXXX These levels of creation can either be micro creation or macro creation. For example God can be glorified through sport because he created it. Therefore, anything created by God can give him praise. This is why athletes can glorify God because; they have been created by the creator (God). Consequently, a micro level of creation would be an athlete using his or her talents to be successful but, with sport ministry that individual is a mere reflection of Christ, because Christ was the one who gave said individual the gift to begin with. Genesis 1:27 28 makes references to micro creation when it says, So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth (KJV, 2001). The Impact Of Applied Psychology On The Field Of Psychology Consider the Impact of Applied and Behaviorist Psychology on the Field In this paper I will discuss the impact that applied and behaviorist psychology has had on the field of psychology. J. R. Angell at the University of Chicago is possibly one of the most advanced of the functional psychologists, predicted that American psychology was prepared for better objectivity. In 1910, he stated that it is possible that the term consciousness would more than likely vanish from psychology, even more than the term soul had vanished (p. 209). The most significant impact on the field of psychology was the explication of consciousness and its functions. Angell also viewed the introspective study of consciousness as one of the most important method of psychological research during the mid nineteenth century (Schultz Schultz, 2012). What persons or ideas in early behaviorism would carry out the trend that Angell predicted? During the nineteenth century, most psychologists viewed the emergence of functionalism as being evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Therefore, the primary difference was in the subject matter of their study; while structuralism attempted to examine and describe regulations concerning psychological practices, functionalism was the trend that was considered to be more teleological challenging, and focused more on the concept of how and why. As a reaction of structuralism, functionalism emerged during the twentieth century. In comparing structuralism and functionalism, functionalism is believed to have a more significant role in the development and subject matter of psychology. Although, the role of functionalism was considered to be strong it was not exclusive because behaviorism was considered by most to be the most dominant trend of psychology. John B. Watson (1878 1958) was one of Angell s most promising students at the University of Chicago. Watson (1913) eventually became founder of the behaviorist school of psychology. He carried out the trend of Angell s theoretical prediction in early behaviorism and became the first American

Two to three blood pressure readings will be taken at separate appointments before a diagnosis of hypertension can be determined. Changes either from genes, behavioral, or the environment which disrupt the normal functions of the body may cause a rise in blood pressure. Other factors that increase blood pressure are kidney fluid and salt balances, the renin angiotensin aldosterone system, sympathetic nervous system activity, and blood vessel structure and function (Bolivar, 2013). Since blood pressure homeostasis is accomplished by multifactorial mechanisms if there is a change in one of these mechanisms another attempts to correct this change in order to maintain a normal blood pressure. When this system fails and blood pressure can no longer be normalized by this method than essential hypertension results. The kidneys regulate the body s salt balance by retaining sodium and water while excreting potassium. Any imbalance in the kidneys function will expand blood volumes causing blood pressure to rise. The digital currency itself is created as a reward in a competition in which users offer their computing power to verify and record bitcoin transactions into the blockchain. • 49. Lysander s Masculinity In The Disappointment The 17th century provides a treasure trove of literary greatness. The authors cultivated such a tight circle so that everyone s work kept in dialogue. Aphra Behn uses her poem, The Disappointment, as an opportunity to respond to common tropes found in male authored writing. In lines 111 140, Behn dismantles Lysander s masculinity in The Disappointment through comparisons to figures from Greek mythology, thus creating situational irony around his character s ego. In stripping Lysander of all his awful fires (ll. 113) in this selection, Behn reveals Lysander s true feelings of impotence and, by extension, women. Behn immediately ties Lysander to a warrior, a traditionally masculine figure, with his name. Lysander refers to the Spartan admiral in Greek mythology. Lysander s name undermines his masculinity because the fierce and aggressive reputation of the Spartan culture does not align with Lysander s sexual performance. Behn uses this identification to make him seem like he is an ideal romantic partner, but she describes him as [the] god of her desires,/ Disarmed of all his awful fires/ And cold as flowers bathed in the morning dew. (ll. 112 114) Behn refers to Lysander as a god and foreshadows the connections to other Greek figures later on in the selection. The fires Behn mentions represent Lysander s sexual passion. He is disarmed of them and bathes in the morning dew, which is a euphemism for his premature ejaculation. He is fiery, passionate beforehand, and ashamed of himself after. Impotence is a negative quality and does not fit the typical image of masculinity. Behn uses his impotence and Cloris s beauty to make allusions to mythological figures to provide further insight into their characters. After he proves to be impotent, Cloris runs away. Behn explains, Like lightning through the grove she hies,/ Or Daphne from the Delphic god. (ll. 121 122) Behn hyperbolizes Cloris s speed by comparing it to lightning emphasizes the chimerical tone in these final stanzas. The Delphic god, Apollo, aggressively pursued a nymph, Daphne, in Greek mythology. Apollo is the god of many things, but one of them being plagues.
