Theme Of Lamb To The Slaughter
The motif of the lamb leg within Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahl, contributes to the
development of the story by embolizing Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence, which in turn
strengthen the moral dilemma of either turning herself in as a criminal risking her child s life or
to continue living as a metaphoric lamb leg with the benefit of allowing her to raise her child
without fear. Starting with why the lamb leg emblemizes Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence,
one must first look at what a lamb by itself denotes, then narrow down and look at the meaning of
a lamb leg. In regard to denotation, a lamb leg is the young offspring of a sheep. But what lambs
embody within society is innocence. However, moving along, a lamb leg on the other hand... Show

After the murder of Mr. Maloney is done, she strays even further from the path of the lamb when
she creates an artificial alibi by going through extreme lengths to protect her child from harm,
which can seen within text. Her first step to create her artificial alibi was going to the grocery
after the murder. Before going, she rehearse[s] [her smiles and dialogue] several times (Roald 3).
By rehearsing, she keeps her appearance as a lovely housewife when conversing with the
shopkeeper; maintaining her appearance and using her innocent semblance as her tool for
manipulation. Afterwards, when the police arrive at the scene of murder due to Mrs. Maloney s
call, she manipulates the officers by setting setting the mood of sorrow and despair while she sob[s]
(Roald 4) over the phone and conversing with the officers, then she manipulates the officers by
using the artificial alibi she created while shopping for groceries, and further manipulates the
officers by clouding their judgement with whisky. Mrs. Maloney s reason for manipulation can be
inferred when she questions what happens to the unborn child of a murder on the third page, which
further infers that when Mrs. Maloney puts all her effort into deceiving the officers, it wasn t for her

Minority Report Essay
But Minority Report attempts so much more. It brings a spiritual angle into the story with
calculated deliberation. And that angle is the issue of predetermination versus free will, as
Anderton himself admits in the movie. A Detective from the U.S. Justice Department, Ed
Witwer, played by Colin Farrel, shows up to investigate the effectiveness of the precogs and to
search for the human error inherent in any such endeavor. He is sure there is such a weakness
because as he says, these are humans and humans can be wrong. Witwer is already convinced that
the future cannot be certain, therefore Pre Crime is not foolproof. It turns out that Witwer is an ex
student of Fuller Theological Seminary who got out of religious training to fight crime. He ... Show

In fact, Witwer points out that it doesn t matter how accurate oracles are, people make oracles out
of others even if there aren t any. Man is by nature religious and he constructs religious content to
explain otherwise unexplained natural phenomena. This is decidedly demythologization.
Demythology is a modernist western prejudice of the naturalistic worldview. Naturalism assumes
by faith that there is no transcendent spiritual aspect to reality. Everything has natural causes. All
spiritual beliefs are simply ignorant misinterpretations of natural causes into spiritual forces; wish
fulfillment. Demythology is the attempt to purge the mythic ignorance of a belief to discover the
true natural cause. This is a continuation of a theme that Spielberg explored in much more detail in
his rendition of Stanley Kubrik s A.I.2 This evolutionary worldview tries to redefine man as a
being who constructs or projects his own meaning of God and spirit onto what is actually a
meaningless universe of matter in motion. The belief in the afterlife is merely an extension of the
evolutionary survival of the fittest. As the originator of the precogs tells Anderton, When the chips

Summary Of Alison Ayers
Furthermore, root causes of conflict on the continent are often associated with internal issues or an
African problem . Alison Ayers discusses the false perception of civil war and failed states that
have been created and implemented by the West (Ayers 2012). She disputes that civil war is
internally instigated and only portrayed this way due to western representations of Africathrough
media. Ayers states that these efforts are made by hegemonic powers and are ideologically and
politically convenient (Ayers 2012, 261). Her implications here suggest that these ideological
subjugations render African regions vulnerable for the use of exploitation and continuous
dependency on external powers. This becomes the norm of African perception

Essay The history of video games
In the beginning........
The first real video game was made in 1958, by a physicist named William Higginbotham. It is a
table tennis like game and is played on an oscilloscope, a device used for visual displays. While
some big name games, company s, and events have yet to happen, this is what sparked the video
game interest. These paragraphs will guide you through the many years of games. Lets a go!!
Early years (1961 1972)
Things start off when the first interactive computer game SpaceWars (made in 1961) is visited by
the eventual founders of Atari Nolan Bushnell Ted Dabney attempt to make an arcade version of
the game in 1970. In 1971 they succeed, but the public finds it too hard to play. In 1972, a console

It was superior in graphics, but was considerably more expensive ($299). This is just the first of
many companies Atari will have to compete with. Let s see how long Atari will last.
Hits and misses, plus a crash. (1981 1984)
To start off, we go 1981, the beginning of the first video game magazine, Electronic games, made
by Arnie Katz and Bill Kunkle. 1982 introduces the Atari 5200. The next year is much more
eventful. It starts off with a video game market crash, and several companies go bankrupt.
However, there is good news and its name is Nintendo. The Japanese company is not willing to
release the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in America because Atari rules a large part of
the market. Instead, they decide to offer Atari the rights to release the product in the U.S. The plans
fall through and we do not see Nintendo until 1985.
Consoles galore!!! (1985 89)
If the title didn t give it away, there will be a lot of new devices to play on, plus a now game
only company that made a lot of consoles before it went game only will be introduced. So back on
the timeline........... We start off at 1985 where a Russian programmer named Alex Pajitnov makes
the popular game, Tetris. As said above, the NES is released. If you want to play some of its games
now, try this link: www.nescafeplay.com/main/
Now, on to 86. In order to rival the NES, Sega (now stuck with making games) releases the Sega

Benefits of Viral Marketing to Companies in the 21st Century
To what extent is Viral Marketing beneficial to companies in the twenty first century?
Viral marketing is one of the most significant tools contributing many benefits to businesses in the
twenty first century. Due to the development of internet commerce, computer networks allow
people to have an opportunity to select interesting information for them. As a result, the decrease in
consuming information through TV, newspaper and radio while the consumption of online

marketing which is evolving in the twenty first century.
The changes of human behavior in receiving information in the twenty first century causes
businesses to use viral marketing. At present, consumers are more convenient to access to the
information because of the development of technology. To require the information is only search in
the internet by using computers, laptops or even mobile phones as most mobile phones can access
to online networks. Since the abundance of access to the information and numerous social
networks that influence consumers make a decision to buy a new products or services by asking
individuals network in the online communities or entering keyword into the Google search bar
instead of watching advertisement. In an article by Leboff (2012a), customer will make a decision
based on consumer word of mouth by referral or online search. This means, if there are abundance
of positive word of mouth in the internet and prospective customers can reach that information,
there is a potential to convince prospective customers to buy products or services. Therefore,
businesses should provide customers with appropriate space to comment, post some article,

Drug Replacement Therapy
Drug replacement therapy is a widely discussed topic and there are many concerns about whether it
is a positive or negative alternative/solution to drug addiction. First, you must understand what
drug addiction is. Drug addiction begins as a voluntary act proceeding on as the addiction
progresses into a manic world of chaos. Quite often uncontrollable leading on into criminal
activities and possibly death if recovery isn t sought. Drug addictionin this instance becomes a
disease not only affecting the individual consuming these substances, but also trickling down to
each member of the family unit.
Drug replacement therapy was originally intended for individual s suffering with a heroin addiction.

cases, these medications have some side effects like depression and suicidal ideation. If these
symptoms occur, it is recommended to discontinue these medications. This type of drug
replacement therapy is only used for a short period.
Drug replacement therapy is also used to help alcoholics begin their recovery along with support
groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Medications used are Naltrexone,

The Abolition Movement in the United States Three very impactful leaders enter the minds of
every American when discussing the abolition of slavery. Henry Highland Garnet, Wendell Phillips
and the man who funded it all, Gerrit Smith. These men were undoubtably the most hardworking

He wanted them to see the advantage slaves had over the white men. Garnet showed them just
how much the white man relied on his slaves, he showed them how much power they held in the
white man s life. He urged them to fight as hard as they could no matter what consequences they

Free produce movement. He encouraged people to boycott slavery by rejecting any products
produced by slave labor. Garnet then travelled to Kingston, Jamaica in 1852 as a missionary and

impact in the fight against slavery that he later became a target for angered slave owners. During
the Civil War, slave owners accused Garnet of being a radical with dangerous and disruptive

Why The Bathroom Is A Basic Necessity
Going to the bathroom is a basic necessity that everyone does. With this necessity comes the need
for bathrooms so the person can conduct their business in a safe and clean environment. However,
this right is not available to everyone in some cultures. Women in India still lack a proper place to
relieve themselves on a daily basis, which forces them to defecate in the open, causing rape, illness
and health problems, improper feminine hygiene, shame and humility.
Rape and vulnerability are some of the greatest concerns the women face. In May of 2014, in
Katra village in Uttar Pradesh state, two sisters were found hanging in a mango tree after they
were gang raped (Hjelmgaard). The two girls, aged 14 and 15, had gone into the fields near where
they lived because there was no toilet in their home (Hjelmgaard). The girls deaths could have
been easily prevented if they had a toilet in their home (McCarthy). These girls were not alone.
Goldberg adds that, Every 30 minutes a woman in India is raped, and it s often the impoverished
women who relieve themselves in the open who are targeted. To avoid being preyed upon, the
women now go in pairs or groups to the fields to relieve themselves. As another precaution, they go
before dawn and then hold it until dark (McCarthy).
Holding in your shit or urine can lead to more problems. Holding in urine encourages bacterial
growth and increases the risk of developing a urinary tract infection (UTI). Frequent UTIs can also

Contingency Planning Essay
News stations cover various disasters every single day. Sitting behind the screen, people effortlessly
deceive themselves into thinking that they will not face similar situations. However the reality is
that not only are everyone potential victims of such scenarios, but they are also liable to the
aftermath of the incident and its ripple effects. Acknowledging the possibility of experiencing a
disasteris the first step towards effective recovery and responsiveness. The next step is to
formulate a response system to various disaster scenarios and test it out. During the formulation of
a plan, the disaster scenarios and objectives need to be agreed upon while concurrently managerial
and technical actions are thoroughly defined (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees, 2007, p. 68). Evidently, there are costs associated with developing a contingency plan
which in the short term may appear unnecessary; nevertheless as a response to the increasing
number of disasters, contingency planning is essential to scheme to allow an organization to swiftly
return to its operations while avoiding superfluous costs and minimizing casualties as a result of the
increase in the overall effectiveness of response to an emergency or critical situation.
The need for contingency planning primarily roots from the trend of exponential increase in the
number of disasters. The World Disaster Report (2004) concluded that:
Over the past decade, the number of natural and

Psychoanalytic Criticism Of Sons And Lovers
David Herbert Lawrence was born September 11, 1885 in a small coal mining village in
Nottingham, England. He was the fourth child of Arthur and Lydia Lawrence. Arthur was a
coal miner who worked in the mine from age 10 until he was 66. Lydia the more educated out of
the two was born into a lower middle class family; this changed when her father suffered a
financial disaster. She passed down to her sons the profound desire to move out of the working
class by expressing her dissatisfaction with her husband s dead job combined and his drinking
habits. Sons and Lovers is an eye opening semibiographical novel written by D.H Lawrence, an

The story of Sophocles Oedipus Rex helped Freud to help illustrate his theory to the public. In
this story, Oedipus kills his father and marries his mother Slay my father and he dies... fear not
that marriage with thy mother (Oedipus Rex, lines 1000 1013). According to Freud, all male
children form an attraction for their mother around ages 3 5 during the phallic stage of
development,. Eventually they learn to repress their sexual desires for their mother because the
fearing of being castrated by their father (threats son s masculinity). However, if the boy doesn t
repress his feeling for his mother the sexual wishes in regard to the mother become more intense
, and the Oedipus complex will be carried past childhood into adulthood; this makes it very
difficult for him to form relationships with other people especially women. In other words, the
child will never grow out of this and he will be dysfunctional in adulthood. In 1910, Ernest Jones
published Hamlet and Oedipus this was the first time that the Oedipus complex was connected and
present in a major theory work. The relationship between Hamlet and Gertrude (Hamlet s mother)
is a bit unusual; Claudius makes the observation that Gertrude lives almost by [Hamlet s] looks .

Dante is an introvert who works a lot better with others one on one vs being confronted by a

nothing he can do will change how others think of him, so why try right? It s not surprising this

Asthma Pathophysiology
Pathophysiology Asthma is a disease of the lungs that can be influenced by different genes or
alleles. When the epithelial or mucosal barrier is exposed to pollens, allergens, microbes or
pollutants, these can stimulate the underlying antigen presenting cells (APC) which causes an
immune response to occur.17 This can cause a cell influx into the airway that is primarily
eosinophilic or neutrophilic. When the allergens present themselves, they can initiate a breakdown
in the physical barriers, causing further allergic, inflammatory responses.
Epidemiology
According to a 2012 report the incidence of adults with asthma ranges from 5.8 11.1% across the
states.10 According to the report, those reporting asthma have anywhere from a mild to a severe
form of the disease, the latter causing exacerbations or attacks. According to this report, asthma
incidence has increased from 2001 to 2010. At least 4% of the worldwide population is afflicted

Why You Might Like Having A Picket Fence
Why You Might Like Having A Picket Fence If you re looking for an attractive fence that doesn t
block the view beyond your property, a picket fence is probably ideal. It s more visually appealing
than a chain link fence, and it s a great way to keep people out of your yard and keep your kids
and dogs inside. Here are a few reasons a picket fence could be a good choice for your property.
It s Suitable For The Front Yard If you live in the city or in a neighborhood with an HOA, you
probably can t put some fences in your front yard. There might be regulations on the height of
the fence allowed as well as the fencing material used. Picket fences are traditional front yard
fences. The pickets can be made in a variety of heights, so you can put in a low fence if
necessary, and besides the height, the fence will blend in perfectly with the taller picket fence
that surrounds the back of your home. A front yard picket fence is a good way to keep
neighborhood kids out of your flowers while adding a homey look to your property. The Pickets

white picket fence, you may think of days spent scraping and painting to keep the fence looking

The Culmination of my Leadership Studies Minor The Leadership Studies Minor at Baylor
University provides students with the opportunity to learn about leadership in ways that will be
useful in their vocation. Classes in this minor are designed to teach students about the theoretical

have taken at Baylor and my time as part of the Leadership Living Learning Center, better known

will examine how the Leadership Studies Minor helped me learn about myself as a leader and
guided me to pursue my passions in the next chapter of my life. In my first semester at Baylor I
was forced to quickly adapt to both the pace of college classes and the demands of LEAD. My
freshman year in LEAD fundamentally changed my view of leadership, specifically how I could

The Impact of the Tuberculosis Vaccine Essay
The Impact of the Tuberculosis Vaccine
Abstract
Tuberculosis is one of the most infectious diseases in the world. With almost one third of the world
infected with this virus, people are striving to help prevent the spread of this disease (NIAID,
2001). One prevention technique for tuberculosis is the BCG (Bacillus of Calmette and Guerin)
vaccine. In the early twentieth century Calmette and Guerin worked together to isolate a strain of
the disease creating the first BCG vaccine. Throughout the century the scientists improved the BCG
vaccine and today there are several different strains of the vaccine available. However, even today
its full effects on the disease are unknown. The exploration of the effects of the vaccine, the best ...

When the body is finally faced with the
Tuberculosis Vaccine Page 2 organism, it will hopefully have adapted enough to the strain of
Mycobacterium bovis to immediately contain the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The goal of the
vaccine is to keep the body functioning normally, even after contact with Mycobacterium
tuberculosis.
The BCG vaccine was first created in the early twentieth century. In 1906, in Paris, scientists
Calmette and Guerin began experimenting with the vaccine for tuberculosis (NIAID, 2001).
They isolated a strain of Mycobacterium bovis from a cow and began their experimentation on
the living organism. After running tests on animals for over a decade, genetic changes began
occurring in the original strain; this new strain was called the BCG vaccine. In Europe, in 1921,
Calmette and Guerin introduced their vaccine to their first human subjects (WHO, 5). They fed
the vaccine to baby patients orally. By 1928, the Health Committee of the League of Nations
admitted it into use (Pediatric Research, 2002). Tuberculosis got off to a rocky start when it was
first administered. In Lubeck, Germany, almost a quarter of the babies given the BCG vaccine got
the tuberculosis disease or infection from the vaccine itself. The scandal caused general public to
be skeptical of the vaccine. Following the outbreak, it was discovered that the vaccine had been

Orchid of Bayou Reaction Paper
Orchid of the Bayou Reaction Paper
October 7, 2010
The book Orchid of the Bayou was eye opening. Cathryn (Kitty) Hoffpauir Fischer did a good job
of being honest, which really allowed the reader to get a better understanding of what being deaf in
this time period meant. Her writing really allowed me to see the different struggles that deaf
children had to face, and how these struggles were overcome by Kitty. This book taught me many
things about Deaf culture. First, this book allowed me to see the negative way in which deaf
people were perceived. This book is not old by any means, and I was taken aback by the way deaf
children were perceived by not only others in the community, but often times by their own parents
as well. The term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This also discouraged some parents from enrolling their child because they did not want them to
be away for such long periods of time. Now schools for the deaf are more common, and deaf
children can attend mainstream public schools also; making it apparent that just because a child
is deaf does not mean that they are dumb by any means. Also, Kitty has a disease called Usher
Syndrome. Before reading this book I had never heard of it, and thus never realized how
common it really is. This disease takes away two vital senses; hearing and vision. Kitty really
opens up about her fears about losing her sight. The idea of total isolation is scary, without a
doubt, and in my opinion she handles it with more courage than I could have ever imagined.
Sign language is visual, and once Kitty loses her ability to see it will be very difficult to
communicate with her family, and nearly impossible to communicate with hearing people who
she most of the time needs an interpreter to communicate with anyways. I was very impressed by
Kitty s courage throughout her life. As a child she is extremely brave considering she in unable
to communicate with her family, and is very confused by most of what goes on in her life because
of this communication barrier. Kitty makes the best of her situation regardless. As she gets older
she shows extreme courage again as her father faces alcoholism and struggles to keep food on the
table for the family. Kitty again handles this with courage beyond her

Theme Of Mangoes On The Maple Tree
Asserting the Diasporic Identity in Uma Parameswaran s Oeuvre
Amrutha T V

Sreekrishna College, Guruvayur
ABSTRACT: Uma Parameswaran is a versatile writer critic who has attempted to capture the
trauma and dilemma of the diasporic self. Drawing on her first hand knowledge of the white collar,
professional and academic diaspora in Canada, she attempts to voice their dilemmas and
confusions, and above all, their feeling of rootlessness, their fear that having been uprooted once,
they will never again be able to take root anywhere, despite their best efforts. The angst of the
diaspora, striving to retain their identity even as they struggle to assimilate and become one of
them , forms the core of Uma Parameswaran s oeuvre. She ... Show more content on

In the novel Mangoes on the Maple Tree, the flooding of the Red and the Assiniboine that
threatens the peaceful life of Winnipeg, brings the community together and removes barriers in
an unprecedented way. Jayant is one of the young men who work tirelessly, shoulder to shoulder
with the others, to sandbag the river and divert the floodwaters. The waters of the river that
threatens brown and white alike, and endangers harmony, may perhaps be seen as a levelling
and unifying force, and thus becomes as sacred to the immigrant consciousness as the Ganga.
The play Dear Deedi My Sister concludes with the extract from Sapna s letter to her Deedi in
India, We must build our temple here, where the Assiniboine flows into the Red. And we shall
bring Ganga, as Bhagirata did of old, to our land, our Assiniboine, and here shall be groves where
Uma shall dance with Parameswara (Sons 73). Thus we have Parameswaran playing on the
mythological overtones of her own name to reinforce her notion of a unique diasporic Canadian
identity, forged by those who have crossed the oceans, carrying their own baggage of myths and
beliefs, and confidently asserting their selfhood in a new land. Savitri s response to

Key Avant-Garde Movements Of The Twentieth Century
Key avant garde movements, including Suprematism, Constructivism and Futurism, influenced
contemporary political graphics of the twentieth century. Particularly focusing on political and
propaganda posters of the Soviet Union it is evident they were influenced by avant garde
movements that were developing in neighboring and western countries during the same period.
Suprematism, focusing on basic geometric shapes with a limited range of colours is evident in
numerous propaganda posters in Russiaat the beginning of the twentieth century. Constructivism,
developing from Russian Futurism is aimed to create works that would make the viewer an active
viewer. Futurism also influences the posters in a way that allows them to illustrate futuristic and
abstract things as well as many posters containing qualities of cubism. Being influenced by these
movements it gave the Russian government a way to show they weren t old fashioned and were
able to keep updated with the developing countries around them.
Futurism is the most important Italian avant garde movements of the twentieth century. Celebrating
the advanced technology and urban modernity the world was quickly developing, futurism aimed to
demonstrate the beauty of the machine, speed, violence and change. It allowed artists and designers
to communicate with an audience in a new way that wasn t so traditional. This was particularly
helpful to Russia during the time of the revolution because accompanying a new outlook on politics

1. Do you agree or disagree with Chuck Davis and the advice that he gave Leonard Bryner? Explain.
Activity based management, activity based costing and continuous improvement, all these help in
the improvement of the efficiency in manufacturing, better control of overhead costs and the
accurate costing of products. With this in mind, We disagree with the advice that Chuck Davis, the
firm s controller, gave Leonard Bryner. The traditional way of costing produce average costs that
severely overstated or understated. Without the accurate costs, the firm would not be able to price
properly their products and that would be damaging to the firm. With activity based costing and
management, all costs are accounted for with the help activity drivers and overhead costs are
decreased. In turn, the costs that the firm has for their products are more accurate and pricing is
much easier.

Why Was Theatre So Popular In American Theatre
Back In Time Theatre has a huge effect on people not only in America but also London. The
British Invasion has really shaped on how theatre is in the present day. When the british
invasion came to be this was when the american director choreographer era just ended. Around
this time is when musical theatre really began to plummet. One of the reasons why theatre was
in such a bad place at this time and was not popular was because the shows that were on the stage
were not a success. Some of the shows at this time were Rags, Smile, and Nick and Nora.
Because of the failure in shows, the runnings on broadway dropped dramatically. Within 10 years
the amount of shows running went from 32 to only 19. It can be assumed that because the amount
of shows dropped that attendance dropped as well. No one wanted to go watch theatre anymore so
the attendance dropped from 6 million people to 4.6 million people. Theatre was so low right
before the british invasion started. America welcomed the invasion because theatre was not thriving
at all. If London was successful in theatre there, that would mean more tourists would travel to New
York and make it more successful there as well, which it did. Theatre... Show more content on

thriving of broadway once again has helped many people be able to provide for their families
and be able to put food on the table for them. This also ties in on what was happening in America
during this time period. Ronald Reagan just became president. Ronald Reagan was able to bring
a new control in social, economic and political life. When he did so he was able to help create
more job, in the similar way that because theatre began to become popular again it created more

The Process Of Conducting Research
Procedure
The process of conducting research is to gather information that relates to your I search question.
The I search question that I am seeking answers to happens to be; what is the definition of family
in today s society? There are many methods of investigation that can be used to answer this question
, but I have limited it to eight methods. The eight methods I have chosen are going to give me in
depth information about my purposed I search question.
The first method of investigation for my I search project that would best help me gather
information for my project is interviewing both in person and by email. The interview process is
beneficial to my project because it gives me in depth and comprehensive information. The
interviews will consist of ordinary people in todays, society both younger and older the young will
be aged from four to thirty and old will consist of anyone over thirty. I am doing the interviews to
gain answers to my secondary questions which are based on gender and age. Also interviews
provide personal experiences and better understanding of the subject matter in this case family.
The second method of investigation will be scholarly journals. I am using journals because family
is a big topic to be covered and it has been discussed and written about over many years. Many
psychologists have written about what defines a family and how it has changed over time. These
Journals will help me show that the definition is outdated and how it should be

Pyongyang could probably put nuclear warheads on shorter range missiles and attack major

South Koreans doubt American reliability even today, despite 50 years of alliance. And some cite

Homelessness Among The United States
Homelessness has always been growing across communities in the United States, and many
struggle from it as they are people who are lacking in funds, causing them to be without a home.
Today, homelessness among individuals is becoming more common and is unfortunately
spreading all over the world. Most home owning people are unaware of the actuality of the
conditions that the homeless people reside in and many cannot comprehend the troubles and
hardships they face just to keep themselves alive. Most homeless people are known to reside in
abandoned buildings, buses, cars, street corners and in many community parks. Most homeless
people can barely afford to eat every day and to survive many live on the scraps and leftovers from
others. Homelessnessis defined as someone who cannot afford to pay for housing without
depriving themselves of the essentials needed in life. People who become homeless do not all
necessarily live on streets, but many homeless people in our modern society stay with friends,
relatives and even in shelters as they cannot afford to live on their own (Espejo 28).
The three kinds of homelessness that exist are, temporary homelessness, episodical/cynical
homelessness and chronic homelessness. A person who falls under the category of temporary
homelessness is typically a person or family that becomes homeless for a short period of time.
Most people are forced into temporary homelessness because of an unexpected and minor

living in Dublin, Ohio struggle with drug and alcohol addiction problems. For these citizens, getting

Situated just below the Delaware River opposite Trenton, New Jersey the borough of Morrisville
was home to 8,668 residents in 2013 (United States Census Bureau). Drug and alcohol addiction
problems exist in Morrisville similar to other areas of the country. Recent data indicates heroin and
alcohol are the leading substances of abuse sending Pennsylvania residents into treatment. During
2014, over 37% of all Pennsylvania drug rehab enrollments cited heroin as their primary substance
of abuse, and over 23% cited alcohol as theirs.
Recovery from addiction comes in a number of different forms and uses a variety of methods.
When comparing inpatient vs. outpatient treatment programs the greatest difference is where the
recovering person resides. An inpatient program requires the client to reside in the facility full time
during their recovery whereas an outpatient program allows for more freedom. Outpatient rehab
centers allow the client to remain at home during their recovery and attend the facility during the
day or evening. While each type of program has advantages, determining which type of program
will best meet the recovery needs of the addict will require honesty when faced with the question;
can the individual remain sober when away from the facility? If they answer is no, then an
inpatient, or even residential treatment program is necessary to ensure the best chances of sobriety

The Scarlet Ibis Analysis
James Hurst is the author of the heart breaking short story entitled The Scarlet Ibis . The Scarlet
Ibis is a short story about two brothers; one brother is healthy, while the other is physically
handicapped. The short story is centered on the idea that the older, healthier brother s selfishness
and pride ultimately led to the death of his younger brother, Doodle. Numerous quotes throughout
the story demonstrate Hurst s use of symbolism and foreshadowing to portray and predict Doodle s
untimely and heartbreaking death. The Scarlet Ibisbird symbolizes Doodle; this symbolism can be
seen by the authors description of both Doodle s and the Scarlet Ibiss appearance after death. After
the Scarlet Ibis fell from the bleeding tree his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hurst s diction at the beginning of the short story foreshadows the later death of Doodle. Hurst
starts by setting a gloomy scene as the narrator is speaking. The narrator, Doodle s old brother,
soon states, But sometimes, as I sit in the cool...I remember Doodle (Hurst 1). Hurst uses the
word remember to emphasize the fact that Doodle is no long around. Readers do not know what
happened to Doodle, but begin to suspect the answer. In the next paragraph the narrator says,
Doodle was just about the craziest brother a boy ever had (Hurst 1). In this quote, Hurst uses past
tense words such as was and had to once again show that this was in the past. Hurst s word
choices foreshadow Doodle s death and sparks interest in the readers at the very beginning.
Foreshadowing is used at the beginning of the story to draw readers into the story and help keep
their interest.
Hurst utilizes foreshadowing to demonstrate how the brother s selfishness and pride leads to the
death of Doodle. Not long after Doodle was born, the mother explains to the brother that Doodle
might be mentally handicapped as well as physically handicapped. The brother could not accept
the fact that his brother is different, so he began to make plans to kill him [Doodle] by
smothering him in his sleep (Hurst 1). From the very beginning, Doodle s brother is unable to
except the fact that his brother is not normal and never will be. His selfishness and pride leads him
to want to kill

Executive summary
The success of a firm depends very much on the way the personals there are performing. So the
firm have to focus on maintain proper relationship among individuals working there. In doing
so, managers need to learn about organizational behavior, why and how individuals behave in a
certain situation, and how to influence their behavior. The business I want to do in future is a
restaurant business. It will be a traditional UK restaurant with south Asian flavor. The verity of
dishes from south Asia will be combined with UK s traditional dishes. People who look for
something new will be our target and the cost of food will not be too high. Our customers will
be middle class people who love food. At first I will start small but gradually I will expand my
business. And in future, I d like to own a chain of restaurant. The aim of my business will be
sufficient profit, proper management, serving food lovers at low cost and gradually grow in a big
chain of restaurants. I d like to manage my business all by myself, which will give me sole
authority but I want to use participative leadership style in managing business. My business will
demand some employees from south Asia and as I want to combine south Asian flavor with
traditional UK flavor, I will also need some UK citizens as my employees. I will have to deal with
cultural diversity and solve the various conflicts arising from them. So I need a proper

The Idealized Gender Roles
The concept of idealized gender roles has long been a subject of curiosity for scholars who study
historical reenactment. Reenactments rely heavily upon gender divides between the feminine and
the masculine. Handler and Saxon (1988) suggest that authenticity in the reenactment hobby is a
suspicious pursuit at best, because true subjectivity and mindsets cannot be replicated (245).
Mitchell D. Strauss (2005) also considers authenticityin his critique of Confederate reenactors and
the (in) appropriate expression of whiteness. Building off of similar themes, Stephen J. Hunt (2005)
further proposes that the performances of idealized genderroles, then, becomes a method through
which reenactors stake a claim on authenticity and become embroiled... Show more content on

By considering the implications of authenticity in terms of idealized gender and performance, the
possibility emerges for intersectional analysis which has largely been missing from academic
literature regarding reenactment. Authenticity can be understood as a force of both identity
construction and identity exclusion within the hobby. While some groups are granted greater
degree of authenticity, others do not achieve or outright undermine the ideal and successively fall

The Role of Children s Books in Education Essay
From the time a child is born, the task of the parents and society is to educate that child. If a child
has no learning they will not survive. Parents are responsible for give a child the learning that they
need. Since no one parent or person can correctly show children all things and since children need

programs to aid in the educationof the children.
From parent seminars, to books and movies, to even games consoles, children are not only being
taught the basic concepts of the world, shapes, colors, language, but they are also being taught the
norms and values of a particular society. This essay will look into what the children s materials of...

Most children s material used Bible stories and life lessons to give children the lessons of life.
Books like Aesop s Fables2 and Children s Stories of the Bible3 children are taught things such
as perserverance, hard work, patience, and obedience. Aesop s Fables teach children important
lessons about how to live their lives. The stories vary from The Hare and the Tortoise, to Briar
Rabbit, and The Ant and the Grasshopper. each of these stories are presented to children to teach
them the lesson of perserverance by seeing how the tortoise never gave up and because of the
haughtiness and pride of the hare, the tortoise won the race. The child that hears or reads this
story may not realize that they are being taught lessons, but they will still begin to learn that pride
and haughty attitudes will cause them to lose things that are important, while perseverance will
lead to gain. obediences the other stories teach respect for others things, that disobedience will
lead to trouble, and that hard work will take you further than laziness. Similarly, the Children s
Stories of the Bible, which used to be a staple in most schools and homes, teaches the stories of
the Bible characters, but also teaches the values that are taught in the stories. This book teaches the
story of David and Goliath. Not only does it tell about how David did an amazing feat by defeating
the giant but also teaches children to stand up

Balance Sheet and Goodwill
Goodwill is an intangible asset, probably the most intangible of all intangible assets, hard to
measure and even more difficult to account for. Goodwill today constitutes a much larger part of
acquisition prices than it did previously, resulting in a much greater impact on financial statements.
During the twentieth century the concept of goodwill has changed significantly. In the earlier days
goodwill was thought of as the good and valuable relationships of a proprietor of a business with
his customers. The present concept is broader in that it encompasses many more intangible
economic factors of a business enterprise and accountants now consider that goodwill results from
the evaluation of the earning power of a business by investors ... Show more content on

It is no wonder that managements, in order to avoid this reduction in reportable earnings,
frequently opt to use the pooling of interest method when they complete a merger. Since no
goodwill is created, over eager managers are able to pay outrageous prices for acquisitions with
little or no accountability on the balance sheet. Since it makes no sense to have two different ways
for accounting for a merger, the FASB decided they should eliminate the pooling of interest
method and force all transactions to be done via the purchase method. Executives and politicians
claimed this will significantly reduce the number of mergers since the new standards would cause
reportable earnings to drop as soon as a company had completed an acquisition. As a concession,
the FASB will no longer require goodwill to be written off unless the assets became impaired
(which means it becomes clear that the goodwill is not worth what the company paid for it).
The FASB s six members unanimously approved two new accounting standards on Friday July 23,
2001. Financial Accounting Statement 141 will eliminate the pooling of interest method for
booking mergers. The method had been popular with dealmakers because it allowed companies to
do deals at a premium without marking up their assets. These markups inflate the size of future
amortization expenses and depressed reported earnings, supporters of pooling said. The FASB also
passed Financial Accounting Statement 142 a closely related standard

Visual And Verbal Components Of An Organization Essay
Introduction
Culture is something like behavioral rules which are unwritten and unspoken that is produced
when group of people comes at a place to work together. Culture is created by the attitude, the
values, beliefs and important assumptions as well as performance and activities shared by a group
of people.
Organizational culture is made up of every sort of experiences that all employee brings to the work
place. Organization culture is particularly introduced by the organization s founder, executives, and
other managerial staff because of their role in decision making and strategic direction.
The visual and verbal components of an organization s culture are evident every day at work.
Whether you are walking through a work area, sitting in an office, attending a meeting, or eating in
the lunchroom, the organization s culture surrounds you and permeates your working life. Culture
is represented in groups by: language, decision making, symbols, stories and legends and daily work
practices. Your bulletin board content, the company newsletter, the interaction of employees in
meetings, and the way in which people collaborate, speak volumes about your organizational
culture.
Culture is how organizations do things . Robbie Katanga. Culture is consistent, observable patterns
of behavior in organizations. Aristotle said, We are what we repeatedly do. This view elevates
repeated behavior or habits as the core of culture and deemphasizes what people feel, think or
believe.

Abstract: A new CMOS clocked dynamic comparator using two input single output differential
amplifier as latch stage suitable for high speed analog to digital converters with the performance
of high speed, low power dissipation and low immune to noise. The conventional dynamic
comparator requires more power and has more delay. A conventional double tail dynamic
comparator consumes less power and works at high speed than its predecessor, the conventional
comparator. There is very much need to reduce the delay and power consumption which is
possible by strengthening the positive feedback during the regeneration. This can be achieved by
adding few transistors to the double tail dynamic comparator. Using the inverter based differential
amplifier to design a novel double tail comparator for reducing the no of transistors and better
characteristics. The performance of this method is to be analyzed with the existing two designs at
different power voltages and frequencies using 0.18Ојm CMOS Technology. Key words: Double
tail comparator, dynamic clocked comparator, high speed analog to digital converters (ADCs), low
power analog design, inverter op amp

Describe two or more psychological explanations of schizophrenia

A01 A02 Sociocultural AO2 Cognitive Introducing Biology
The cognitive explanation acknowledges the role of biological factors in schizophrenia, suggesting
that the basis of the condition is abnormal brain activity producing visual and auditory
hallucinations. Further features of the disorder emerge as people try to make sense of the
hallucinations.
When schizophrenics first experience voices and other worrying sensory experiences, they turn to
others to confirm the validity of what they are experiencing. Other people fail to confirm the reality
of these experiences, so the schizophrenic comes to believe that others must be hiding the truth.

The intention is to show schizophrenics that their hallucinations are not real. As yet, however, there
is no evidence that this will provide a successful treatment.
The research by Brown and Birley was a retrospective study where data is collected after events
have occurred. In other words, once a person had developed schizophrenia they were asked about
events leading up to the onset. It is quite likely that recall would be negatively affected by the
events surrounding the onset of schizophrenia so such evidence may be unreliable.
Prospective studies are preferable, where people are studied after the onset of the disorder. Hirsch
et al followed 71 schizophrenic patients over a 48 week period. It was clear that life events made a
significant cumulative (increasing) contribution in the 12 months preceding relapse rather than
immediately prior to the schizophrenic episode. This does support the retrospective research.
However, not all research supports the importance of life stressors. For example, Van Os et al
reported no link between life events and the onset of schizophrenia. In the prospective part of the
study, patients who had experienced a major life event went on to have a lower incidence of
relapse rather than an increased risk as predicted.
One criticism of this research is that it is correlational. Therefore, we cannot infer a causal

Akron Zoo Negotiation
One example in particular started early on in the process when two or three precinct 3 E pastors
vocally opposed Issues 23 and 24. They felt like the community was only doing things for the
Akron Zoo, as in, they felt like the community was always putting together efforts that would only
benefit us, Criss said. This feedback from the pastors came after two town hall meetings organized
by councilwoman Sommervile. I think that s when we decided that we needed to sit down with
these religious leaders to facilitate a conversation about what passing the issues meant, Barnhardt
said. Because the AkronZoo felt that the pastors in the targeted area were opinion leaders, a one on
one conversation was chosen to facilitate an open dialogue about the issues. Both Criss and
Barnhardt felt that the open conversation with the pastors allowed for clearing up confusion and
misconceptions about what Issues 23 and 24 would mean for the zoo if passed. Criss commented...

the current plan of only selling alcohol after hours to daily sale. Unfortunately, this was not a

  • 3. Theme Of Lamb To The Slaughter The motif of the lamb leg within Lamb to the Slaughter , by Roald Dahl, contributes to the development of the story by embolizing Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence, which in turn strengthen the moral dilemma of either turning herself in as a criminal risking her child s life or to continue living as a metaphoric lamb leg with the benefit of allowing her to raise her child without fear. Starting with why the lamb leg emblemizes Mrs. Maloney s facade of innocence, one must first look at what a lamb by itself denotes, then narrow down and look at the meaning of a lamb leg. In regard to denotation, a lamb leg is the young offspring of a sheep. But what lambs embody within society is innocence. However, moving along, a lamb leg on the other hand... After the murder of Mr. Maloney is done, she strays even further from the path of the lamb when she creates an artificial alibi by going through extreme lengths to protect her child from harm, which can seen within text. Her first step to create her artificial alibi was going to the grocery after the murder. Before going, she rehearse[s] [her smiles and dialogue] several times (Roald 3). By rehearsing, she keeps her appearance as a lovely housewife when conversing with the shopkeeper; maintaining her appearance and using her innocent semblance as her tool for manipulation. Afterwards, when the police arrive at the scene of murder due to Mrs. Maloney s call, she manipulates the officers by setting setting the mood of sorrow and despair while she sob[s] (Roald 4) over the phone and conversing with the officers, then she manipulates the officers by using the artificial alibi she created while shopping for groceries, and further manipulates the officers by clouding their judgement with whisky. Mrs. Maloney s reason for manipulation can be inferred when she questions what happens to the unborn child of a murder on the third page, which further infers that when Mrs. Maloney puts all her effort into deceiving the officers, it wasn t for her ... And that angle is the issue of predetermination versus free will, as Anderton himself admits in the movie. A Detective from the U.S. Justice Department, Ed Witwer, played by Colin Farrel, shows up to investigate the effectiveness of the precogs and to search for the human error inherent in any such endeavor. He is sure there is such a weakness because as he says, these are humans and humans can be wrong. Witwer is already convinced that the future cannot be certain, therefore Pre Crime is not foolproof. In fact, Witwer points out that it doesn t matter how accurate oracles are, people make oracles out of others even if there aren t any. Man is by nature religious and he constructs religious content to explain otherwise unexplained natural phenomena. This is decidedly demythologization. Demythology is a modernist western prejudice of the naturalistic worldview. Naturalism assumes by faith that there is no transcendent spiritual aspect to reality. Everything has natural causes. All spiritual beliefs are simply ignorant misinterpretations of natural causes into spiritual forces; wish fulfillment. Demythology is the attempt to purge the mythic ignorance of a belief to discover the true natural cause. This is a continuation of a theme that Spielberg explored in much more detail in his rendition of Stanley Kubrik s A.I.2 This evolutionary worldview tries to redefine man as a being who constructs or projects his own meaning of God and spirit onto what is actually a meaningless universe of matter in motion. The belief in the afterlife is merely an extension of the evolutionary survival of the fittest. As the originator of the precogs tells Anderton, When the chips are down, ... Alison Ayers discusses the false perception of civil war and failed states that have been created and implemented by the West (Ayers 2012). She disputes that civil war is internally instigated and only portrayed this way due to western representations of Africathrough media. Ayers states that these efforts are made by hegemonic powers and are ideologically and politically convenient (Ayers 2012, 261). Her implications here suggest that these ideological subjugations render African regions vulnerable for the use of exploitation and continuous dependency on external powers. • 10. Why The Bathroom Is A Basic Necessity Going to the bathroom is a basic necessity that everyone does. With this necessity comes the need for bathrooms so the person can conduct their business in a safe and clean environment. However, this right is not available to everyone in some cultures. Women in India still lack a proper place to relieve themselves on a daily basis, which forces them to defecate in the open, causing rape, illness and health problems, improper feminine hygiene, shame and humility. Rape and vulnerability are some of the greatest concerns the women face. In May of 2014, in Katra village in Uttar Pradesh state, two sisters were found hanging in a mango tree after they were gang raped (Hjelmgaard). The two girls, aged 14 and 15, had gone into the fields near where they lived because there was no toilet in their home (Hjelmgaard). The girls deaths could have been easily prevented if they had a toilet in their home (McCarthy). These girls were not alone. Goldberg adds that, Every 30 minutes a woman in India is raped, and it s often the impoverished women who relieve themselves in the open who are targeted. To avoid being preyed upon, the women now go in pairs or groups to the fields to relieve themselves. As another precaution, they go before dawn and then hold it until dark (McCarthy). However the reality is that not only are everyone potential victims of such scenarios, but they are also liable to the aftermath of the incident and its ripple effects. Acknowledging the possibility of experiencing a disasteris the first step towards effective recovery and responsiveness. The next step is to formulate a response system to various disaster scenarios and test it out. During the formulation of a plan, the disaster scenarios and objectives need to be agreed upon while concurrently managerial and technical actions are thoroughly defined (Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 2007, p. 68). Evidently, there are costs associated with developing a contingency plan which in the short term may appear unnecessary; nevertheless as a response to the increasing number of disasters, contingency planning is essential to scheme to allow an organization to swiftly return to its operations while avoiding superfluous costs and minimizing casualties as a result of the increase in the overall effectiveness of response to an emergency or critical situation. Leadership Studies Minor At Baylor University The Culmination of my Leadership Studies Minor The Leadership Studies Minor at Baylor University provides students with the opportunity to learn about leadership in ways that will be useful in their vocation. Classes in this minor are designed to teach students about the theoretical and practical uses of leadershipthat are relevant to the work force today. The leadership courses I have taken at Baylor and my time as part of the Leadership Living Learning Center, better known as LEAD, has shaped my opinion of the importance of the Leadership Studies Minor. This paper will examine how the Leadership Studies Minor helped me learn about myself as a leader and guided me to pursue my passions in the next chapter of my life. In my first semester at Baylor I was forced to quickly adapt to both the pace of college classes and the demands of LEAD. My freshman year in LEAD fundamentally changed my view of leadership, specifically how I could be a leader in situations that I hadn t been before. Coming into college my previous leadership experience was limited to being the captain of the tennis team at my high school and the oldest of seven in my family. These roles were similar in that because I had the most authority, based on skill for the tennis team and seniority over my siblings, I felt comfortable in a leadership position. I quickly learned as part of the LEAD program and in my first leadership course, Introduction to Leadership, that being a leader is much more than being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With almost one third of the world infected with this virus, people are striving to help prevent the spread of this disease (NIAID, 2001). One prevention technique for tuberculosis is the BCG (Bacillus of Calmette and Guerin) vaccine. In the early twentieth century Calmette and Guerin worked together to isolate a strain of the disease creating the first BCG vaccine. Throughout the century the scientists improved the BCG vaccine and today there are several different strains of the vaccine available. However, even today its full effects on the disease are unknown. When the body is finally faced with the Tuberculosis Vaccine Page 2 organism, it will hopefully have adapted enough to the strain of Mycobacterium bovis to immediately contain the Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The goal of the vaccine is to keep the body functioning normally, even after contact with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The BCG vaccine was first created in the early twentieth century. In 1906, in Paris, scientists Calmette and Guerin began experimenting with the vaccine for tuberculosis (NIAID, 2001). They isolated a strain of Mycobacterium bovis from a cow and began their experimentation on the living organism. After running tests on animals for over a decade, genetic changes began occurring in the original strain; this new strain was called the BCG vaccine. In Europe, in 1921, Calmette and Guerin introduced their vaccine to their first human subjects (WHO, 5). They fed the vaccine to baby patients orally. By 1928, the Health Committee of the League of Nations admitted it into use (Pediatric Research, 2002). Tuberculosis got off to a rocky start when it was first administered. In Lubeck, Germany, almost a quarter of the babies given the BCG vaccine got the tuberculosis disease or infection from the vaccine itself. Cathryn (Kitty) Hoffpauir Fischer did a good job of being honest, which really allowed the reader to get a better understanding of what being deaf in this time period meant. Her writing really allowed me to see the different struggles that deaf children had to face, and how these struggles were overcome by Kitty. This book taught me many things about Deaf culture. First, this book allowed me to see the negative way in which deaf people were perceived. Also, Kitty has a disease called Usher Syndrome. Before reading this book I had never heard of it, and thus never realized how common it really is. This disease takes away two vital senses; hearing and vision. Kitty really opens up about her fears about losing her sight. The idea of total isolation is scary, without a doubt, and in my opinion she handles it with more courage than I could have ever imagined. Sign language is visual, and once Kitty loses her ability to see it will be very difficult to communicate with her family, and nearly impossible to communicate with hearing people who she most of the time needs an interpreter to communicate with anyways. I was very impressed by Kitty s courage throughout her life. As a child she is extremely brave considering she in unable to communicate with her family, and is very confused by most of what goes on in her life because of this communication barrier. Kitty makes the best of her situation regardless. As she gets older she shows extreme courage again as her father faces alcoholism and struggles to keep food on the table for the family. Drawing on her first hand knowledge of the white collar, professional and academic diaspora in Canada, she attempts to voice their dilemmas and confusions, and above all, their feeling of rootlessness, their fear that having been uprooted once, they will never again be able to take root anywhere, despite their best efforts. In the novel Mangoes on the Maple Tree, the flooding of the Red and the Assiniboine that threatens the peaceful life of Winnipeg, brings the community together and removes barriers in an unprecedented way. Jayant is one of the young men who work tirelessly, shoulder to shoulder with the others, to sandbag the river and divert the floodwaters. The waters of the river that threatens brown and white alike, and endangers harmony, may perhaps be seen as a levelling and unifying force, and thus becomes as sacred to the immigrant consciousness as the Ganga. The British Invasion has really shaped on how theatre is in the present day. When the british invasion came to be this was when the american director choreographer era just ended. Around this time is when musical theatre really began to plummet. One of the reasons why theatre was in such a bad place at this time and was not popular was because the shows that were on the stage were not a success. Some of the shows at this time were Rags, Smile, and Nick and Nora. Because of the failure in shows, the runnings on broadway dropped dramatically. Within 10 years the amount of shows running went from 32 to only 19. It can be assumed that because the amount of shows dropped that attendance dropped as well. No one wanted to go watch theatre anymore so the attendance dropped from 6 million people to 4.6 million people. Theatre was so low right before the british invasion started. Situated just below the Delaware River opposite Trenton, New Jersey the borough of Morrisville was home to 8,668 residents in 2013 (United States Census Bureau). Drug and alcohol addiction problems exist in Morrisville similar to other areas of the country. Recent data indicates heroin and alcohol are the leading substances of abuse sending Pennsylvania residents into treatment. During 2014, over 37% of all Pennsylvania drug rehab enrollments cited heroin as their primary substance of abuse, and over 23% cited alcohol as theirs. Recovery from addiction comes in a number of different forms and uses a variety of methods. When comparing inpatient vs. outpatient treatment programs the greatest difference is where the recovering person resides. An inpatient program requires the client to reside in the facility full time during their recovery whereas an outpatient program allows for more freedom. Outpatient rehab centers allow the client to remain at home during their recovery and attend the facility during the day or evening. While each type of program has advantages, determining which type of program will best meet the recovery needs of the addict will require honesty when faced with the question; can the individual remain sober when away from the facility? If they answer is no, then an inpatient, or even residential treatment program is necessary to ensure the best chances of sobriety ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Scarlet Ibis Analysis James Hurst is the author of the heart breaking short story entitled The Scarlet Ibis . The Scarlet Ibis is a short story about two brothers; one brother is healthy, while the other is physically handicapped. The short story is centered on the idea that the older, healthier brother s selfishness and pride ultimately led to the death of his younger brother, Doodle. Numerous quotes throughout the story demonstrate Hurst s use of symbolism and foreshadowing to portray and predict Doodle s untimely and heartbreaking death. The Scarlet Ibisbird symbolizes Doodle; this symbolism can be seen by the authors description of both Doodle s and the Scarlet Ibiss appearance after death. After the Scarlet Ibis fell from the bleeding tree his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hurst s diction at the beginning of the short story foreshadows the later death of Doodle. Hurst starts by setting a gloomy scene as the narrator is speaking. The narrator, Doodle s old brother, soon states, But sometimes, as I sit in the cool...I remember Doodle (Hurst 1). Hurst uses the word remember to emphasize the fact that Doodle is no long around. Readers do not know what happened to Doodle, but begin to suspect the answer. In the next paragraph the narrator says, Doodle was just about the craziest brother a boy ever had (Hurst 1). In this quote, Hurst uses past tense words such as was and had to once again show that this was in the past. Hurst s word choices foreshadow Doodle s death and sparks interest in the readers at the very beginning. Foreshadowing is used at the beginning of the story to draw readers into the story and help keep their interest. Hurst utilizes foreshadowing to demonstrate how the brother s selfishness and pride leads to the death of Doodle. Not long after Doodle was born, the mother explains to the brother that Doodle might be mentally handicapped as well as physically handicapped. The brother could not accept the fact that his brother is different, so he began to make plans to kill him [Doodle] by smothering him in his sleep (Hurst 1). From the very beginning, Doodle s brother is unable to except the fact that his brother is not normal and never will be. His selfishness and pride leads him to want to kill ... • 42. The Idealized Gender Roles The concept of idealized gender roles has long been a subject of curiosity for scholars who study historical reenactment. Reenactments rely heavily upon gender divides between the feminine and the masculine. Handler and Saxon (1988) suggest that authenticity in the reenactment hobby is a suspicious pursuit at best, because true subjectivity and mindsets cannot be replicated (245). Mitchell D. Strauss (2005) also considers authenticityin his critique of Confederate reenactors and the (in) appropriate expression of whiteness. Building off of similar themes, Stephen J. Hunt (2005) further proposes that the performances of idealized genderroles, then, becomes a method through which reenactors stake a claim on authenticity and become embroiled... • 44. Balance Sheet and Goodwill Goodwill is an intangible asset, probably the most intangible of all intangible assets, hard to measure and even more difficult to account for. Goodwill today constitutes a much larger part of acquisition prices than it did previously, resulting in a much greater impact on financial statements. During the twentieth century the concept of goodwill has changed significantly. In the earlier days goodwill was thought of as the good and valuable relationships of a proprietor of a business with his customers. The present concept is broader in that it encompasses many more intangible economic factors of a business enterprise and accountants now consider that goodwill results from the evaluation of the earning power of a business by investors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is no wonder that managements, in order to avoid this reduction in reportable earnings, frequently opt to use the pooling of interest method when they complete a merger. Since no goodwill is created, over eager managers are able to pay outrageous prices for acquisitions with little or no accountability on the balance sheet. Since it makes no sense to have two different ways for accounting for a merger, the FASB decided they should eliminate the pooling of interest method and force all transactions to be done via the purchase method. Executives and politicians claimed this will significantly reduce the number of mergers since the new standards would cause reportable earnings to drop as soon as a company had completed an acquisition. As a concession, the FASB will no longer require goodwill to be written off unless the assets became impaired (which means it becomes clear that the goodwill is not worth what the company paid for it). The FASB s six members unanimously approved two new accounting standards on Friday July 23, 2001. Financial Accounting Statement 141 will eliminate the pooling of interest method for booking mergers. The method had been popular with dealmakers because it allowed companies to do deals at a premium without marking up their assets. These markups inflate the size of future amortization expenses and depressed reported earnings, supporters of pooling said. The FASB also passed Financial Accounting Statement 142 a closely related standard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Assistant proferssor,india,lalitha.nv@gmail.com. Abstract: A new CMOS clocked dynamic comparator using two input single output differential amplifier as latch stage suitable for high speed analog to digital converters with the performance of high speed, low power dissipation and low immune to noise. The conventional dynamic comparator requires more power and has more delay. A conventional double tail dynamic comparator consumes less power and works at high speed than its predecessor, the conventional comparator. There is very much need to reduce the delay and power consumption which is possible by strengthening the positive feedback during the regeneration. This can be achieved by adding few transistors to the double tail dynamic comparator. Using the inverter based differential amplifier to design a novel double tail comparator for reducing the no of transistors and better characteristics. The performance of this method is to be analyzed with the existing two designs at different power voltages and frequencies using 0.18Ојm CMOS Technology. Further features of the disorder emerge as people try to make sense of the hallucinations. The intention is to show schizophrenics that their hallucinations are not real. As yet, however, there is no evidence that this will provide a successful treatment. The research by Brown and Birley was a retrospective study where data is collected after events have occurred. In other words, once a person had developed schizophrenia they were asked about events leading up to the onset. It is quite likely that recall would be negatively affected by the events surrounding the onset of schizophrenia so such evidence may be unreliable. Prospective studies are preferable, where people are studied after the onset of the disorder. Hirsch et al followed 71 schizophrenic patients over a 48 week period. It was clear that life events made a significant cumulative (increasing) contribution in the 12 months preceding relapse rather than immediately prior to the schizophrenic episode. This does support the retrospective research. However, not all research supports the importance of life stressors. For example, Van Os et al reported no link between life events and the onset of schizophrenia. In the prospective part of the study, patients who had experienced a major life event went on to have a lower incidence of relapse rather than an increased risk as predicted. One criticism of this research is that it is correlational. Therefore, we cannot infer a causal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
