Compare And Contrast China And Japan
During the 19th century, after a long period of isolation, both China and Japan underwent social and
political changes to open up to foreign trade and interaction with European forces. Both countries
eventually signed treaties with Western provinces such as the United States and Great Britain in order
to establish a trade relationship to induce and increase commercial trade networks. Even though
culture and civilization in China and Japan were fairly similar, both countries had distinct reactions to
Western influences in their societies which impacted the way that the two empires developed socially,
culturally, politically and intellectually over time.
Whereas Japan accepted Western ideals and even went so far as to emulate them by implementing
them into their society, China succumbed to European power because of its reluctance to follow
Western influences. Since Chinese officials and rulers in the empire ... Show more content on

Since the West did not infiltrate Japan until the 1850s, around ten years after the first opium war, the
Europeans did not focus on westernizing Japan because of its lack of natural resources, small trading
network, and lessened demand for Western goods. However, the European powers did focus on China
because of their extensive amount of resources and their vast trading network which made them a
target for European colonization and imperial rule. During the opium war in the mid 1800s, there were
many Anglo Chinese disputes over British trade in China, the East India Company, and China s
sovereignty and judicial equality because it destabilized its Canton system of trading and made a new
way for a rise in free trade imperialism to ensue. These wars between China and the European powers
further weakened the Qing Dynasty and decreased China s deliberate separation with the rest of the

Tips for Good Print Design
Student Network Resources Inc. Some factors to consider for good print design are accurate use of
bleeds, edges, cropping, color, and elements of typography. Text should not be cut off or flowing over
into the folding of brochures or the next newsletter columns. Print layout and design elements must
meet in order to produce excellent advertising copy. Bleeding Bleeding occurs when a design element
such as print or an image extends further than the edge of the margins or page. Sometimes this can be
intended for effect, but is viewed as unprofessional if unintentional (Graphic Fetish, 2009). Cropping
Crop marks, cropping is an element used to trim off the unnecessary parts of a picture image, or page.
The crop marks are the cutting lines that are guides to setting areas being cut. Color Schemes Color
can draw or detract from a print design. Using complementary colors in print can give warmth and an
inviting feel to the print or it can bore the audience (Graphic Fetish, 2009). Understanding how to
properly use color is important in reaching an audience or highlighting the capture of an eventful
moment (Wildfire.com, 2012). Typography design refers to how the printed material is laid out. Is the
print copy effective in relaying the message to the audience or does it disrupt or interfere with the
message (Kyrnin, 2012). The lack of proper consideration of such factors will result in unattractive
spacing issues that show up when the design is flattened out or

The Perfect Nature Of Love And Sonnet 130 By William...
The English, or Shakespearian, sonnet has the simplest and most flexible patterns of all sonnets. It
consists of three quatrains of alternation rhyme and an ending couplet which concludes the sonnet.
William Shakespeare is known for his works such as Romeo and Juliet, but he is well known for his
sonnets. William Shakespeare s sonnet 116 and sonnet 130 describe love in a different way; however,
the sonnets center around the same idea. Sonnet 116 is about love in its most ideal form. The first four
lines, or the first quatrain, show that love is constant and will not alter when it alteration finds (l. 3).
The lines that comes after that say true love is indeed an ever fixed mark (l. 5) that can make it
through anything. Shakespeare claims that we can measure love, whose worth s unknown (ll. 7 8),
only to a degree or not in an understandable way. The perfect nature of love is unshakeable throughout
time, and it remains so even to the edge of doom, (l. 12) or death. In the couplet, he declares that if he
is wrong about the constant, unmovable nature of love then he must take back his writings on love. He
states that if he has judged love in the wrong way, no individual has ever loved. Sonnet 130 is about a
mistress who does not have much beauty. Shakespeare compares her to things that are supposed to be
beautiful. This comparison tells the reader that her eyes are nothing like the sun (l. 1). He also says
that her lips are not as coral; compared to white show,

Scenario Between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie, And Patice
Scenario Explained
The scenario between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie and Doris is a classic issue of offer and acceptance.
These are two elements of a valid contract. The scenario also raises its potential of being an invitation
to treat as this is a stark contrast to that of an offer. That is, we must consider whether the notice
placed on the car constitutes a valid offer or if it was a mere invitation to treat. If this notice does
amount to a valid offer where Arnold outlines the terms and conditions (the price at which he was
willing to sell and his telephone number) by which he is willing to be legally bound we must look at
the possible issues that may arise and what possible steps Arnold can take to deal with his situation.
Arnold appears to be the principal party who makes definite terms pertaining to the sale of his car,
from this we can conclude that the notice placed on his cars does in fact demonstrate a clear intent to
be legally bound. This is a unilateral offer where Arnold outlined the terms and condition to which he
is willing to be legally bound, he is inviting the public to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

there was no contract and there had been no authorized communication between the managers and Mr.

Healthy Racial Identity Development Among Older White Youth
Healthy racial identity development among older white youth is a bit more complex. Often, white
students must come to understand that society attaches meaning to their whiteness and that they have a
choice about how to be white in a multicultural society.
The American Civil Rights Movement was a movement of the people. Black and white, male and
female, Jew and Christian, rich and poor ordinary people who came together across differences to

She went on to get her master s degree there in 1935. Academically, she was in the top five percent of

Juliette Morgan was a woman of wealth, status, education and connections. She was an aristocrat of
Montgomery society. On the surface, she appeared to be the definitive Southern belle.
One seemingly insignificant thing about Morgan s life separated her from her privileged friends. She
had severe anxiety attacks. These attacks prevented her from driving her own car so, to get to work,
she rode the city buses in Montgomery. On those buses, she saw white bus drivers use the tone and
manners of mule drivers in their treatment of Negro passengers. She watched them threaten and
humiliate black men and women who paid the same 10 cent fare she paid.

In 1939, 16 years before the famous Montgomery Bus Boycott, Morgan began writing letters to the
Montgomery Advertiser, the city s local newspaper, denouncing the horrible injustices she witnessed

Montgomery should do something about it. The response was immediate: Morgan lost her job at a
local bookstore.

Lab Report On Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen Peroxide
Rate of Reaction

BIOL133
Abstract
The reason for conducting this lab is discover is changing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration
will affect the rate of reaction. During the experiment, the H2O2 rate will be changed and pressure
will be measured using a gas pressure sensor. The data suggests that as the hydrogen peroxide
concentration increases, the rate of diffusion increases and that my hypothesis is valid.
Introduction
Hydrogen peroxide is a by product of biochemical metabolism. The accumulation of hydrogen
peroxide can be deadly, so it must be decomposed. One of the decomposing factors is an enzyme
called Catalase. Catalase breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Since this is a
decomposition reaction, it is exothermic. Hydrogen peroxide can gradually degenerate itself, it
decomposes much faster with the help of Catalase which lowers the activation energy to the minimum
energy barrier that hydrogen peroxide molecules should overcome to decompose.

The Importance Of Female Characters In Disney Films
Children s animation has always been a specific genre that attracts a lot of attention due to the affect
its characters can have on young kids. Arguably the most popular children s animated films franchise
is the Disney Princess line, where about twelve female characters from these Disney films serve as the
main protagonist throughout their respective movies. Young girls around the world obsess over the
Disney Princesses as they remain highly popular due to frequent films and merchandising. The
Princesses who star in these films are seen as role models to these young women, especially in
American culture as they typically have redeemable qualities and make the best out of troublesome
situations. Although Disney films are especially popular in the United States as well as worldwide,
they are not as well favored in Japan. Japanese animated children s films are beloved in their home
country, specifically ones that feature a strong, pre teen female protagonist. The Studio Ghibli film
studio has many female roles in their animated films, and audiences view these characters as more age
appropriate to their target audience: female children and pre teen girls. American audiences that are
exposed to these Japanese films seem to agree that the female characters are more realistic, more
personable, and have better views and goals than those of the Disney Princess franchise. Two films
both released in 1989, Disney s The Little Mermaid and Studio Ghibli s Kiki s Delivery Service both

My Creation Of A Soundtrack For Octavia E. Butler s...
Soundtracks to films often strive to represent the themes and feeling of the film, and direct the
audience towards particular emotions. A good soundtrack not only allows for the listener to understand
the film better, but it should also bring to mind particular scenes, images, or characters. Soundtracks
for books can do the same. In my creation of a soundtrack for Octavia E. Butler s Parable of the
Sower, I strove to encompass Lauren s journey throughout the novel and the various emotions that she
experiences. Lauren writes about her experiences, and therefore, her reactions become central to the
audiences feeling and. The songs follow along with Lauren, with her despair, death, and the need for
survival. As I scoured through song after ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She and her friends lost their families, homes, and everything they own. The lyrics in the song say: We
sat and made a list / Of all the things that we have, which Lauren does as she scavenges through her
charred house, and when Harry and Zahra figure out what things they can save ( Things We Lost in
the Fire ) (Butler 160, 173). The song is somber and reflective of the horrible events that have
occurred, much like Lauren s journal. Bleeding Out by Imagine Dragons is representative of the
journey Lauren, Harry, and Zahra endure as they move north in search of safety. Throughout the novel
the group experiences hardship, pain, hunger, and love. They are willing to put themselves out on the
line for each other as the song supports: I m bleeding out / So if the last thing that I do / Is bring you
down / I ll bleed out for you (Imagine Dragons). The song is melancholy, but also fast paced which is
indicative of the group s movement through the terrain. They come across different factions where
they experience bloodshed, death, and learn more about the horrors of the world. Yet they stick up for
one another and join together to form a stronger unit. In once particular scene, the original trio comes
up against wild dogs, which the song can relate to directly: When the hour is nigh /And hopelessness
is sinking in /And the wolves all cry / To fill the night with hollering (Imagine Dragons). The incident
with the dogs on the beach as Laruen describes, are wild

Coleman Hawkins Essay
Coleman Hawkins
I think he was the most interesting jazz musician I ve ever seen in my life. He just looked so
authoritative . . . I said, Well, that s what I want to do when I grow up. (DeVeaux, 35) Cannonball
Adderley said these words when he first saw Coleman Hawkins with the Fletcher Henderson band at
the City Auditorium in Tampa, Florida. Just as Hawkins influenced one of the greatest alto players in
history, he has influenced many people to become phenomenal saxophone players. Lester Young and

The Effects Of Climate Change On Canada s Agriculture
Climate Change will positively impact Canada s Agriculture Thesis: Climate change will negatively
impact Canada s Agriculture due to heavy rainfall, droughts, irrigation problems, pesticide issues and
not enough nutrients available? Intro
Agriculture is highly dependent upon weather and climate in order to produce the food necessary to
sustain human life. North America is the world s largest and most productive supplier of food and
fiber (3). Canada is the second largest country in the world however it only contains five percent of
land that is suitable for farming (7). This small farming area is divided in two different zones. The first
zone is the great Prairies located in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and the mixed Wood Plains
of the St. Lawrence River and the second zone is the Great Lakes regions (7). Approximately 80% of
Canada s major farming is done the Prairies (7). There have been several recent studies that indicate
most regions of Canada to warm up during the next 60 years (3). The Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007 projected that global average temperature to increase by 1.5 to 4.5
degrees Celsius (3). Ironically, this would be the largest increase in global mean temperature in the last
10, 000 years (3). According to the comprehensive Canada Country Study (CCS) all the Global
Climate Model (GCM) indicates Canada will be impacted with the most warming (7). The impacts of
this climate change will be greatly reflected on the

Of Plymouth Plantation Mary Rowlandson Analysis
A typical belief that is upheld by the Puritans is the concept of providence, which means God acting in
the life of his creation. This concept is demonstrated in both William Bradford s, Of Plymouth
Plantation and Mary Rowlandson s, Narrative of the Capacity with God playing significant roles in
their lives. For instance, in William Bradford s journey to Cape Cod, him and his crew face starvation
who rescued by Squanto, was viewed as a special instrument sent (by) God... who directed them how
to set their corn (Bradford 33). Also demonstrating providence in the making is in Rowlandson s

Cheerleaders Hard Work
Hard Work Should Pay Off
Hard work and dedication pays off for athletes but goes unnoticed for cheerleaders. The hard work
that is put in by cheerleaders needs to be recognized. Allowing cheerleaders to earn an athletic letter
but not be a part of the Chillicothe High School (CHS) C Club, like the other athletic letter recipients,
is being unjust to the cheerleaders. Cheerleaders should be able to be a part of the CHS C Club
because cheerleaders are able to receive an athletic letter, dedicate personal time, and follow Missouri

Cheerleaders, along with athletes in varsity sports, receive an athletic letter at the end of the season,

Symbolism In Anthem By Ayn Rand
If you take myth and folklore, and these things that speak in symbols, they can be interpreted in so
many ways that although the actual image is clear enough, the interpretation is infinitely blurred, a
sort of enormous rainbow of every possible colour you could imagine (Diana Wynne Jones). Symbols
are objects, characters, figures, or colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts. In Anthem by
Ayn Rand, symbols are used throughout the novel, allowing to reveal more hidden information about
Equality as a person as well as how it portrays to theme.
Throughout the novel, multiple different symbols are being portrayed, although the symbol of light
depicts the full meaning of the characters and theme of Anthem. Ayn Rand uses light to symbolize
knowledge, hope, freedom, and life. The light symbolizes hope since, it shows how Equality separates
himself from collectivism and thinks for himself when he proclaims We made it. We created it. We
brought it forth from the night of the ages. We alone. Our hands. Our mind. Ours alone and only (59).
By contrast to the light of the box, the City is dark and only lit by candlelight. Therefore the light
shows the hope that Equality and all others have of breaking away from the collective society and
becoming individuals and to have freedom to be themselves. The discovery of light starts Equality s
journey of changing the society and granted him the chance to create a new world where light and
other things from the Unmentionable Times exist.
The symbolization of the light in Anthem helps characterize Equality as an individual in the novel in
various different ways. The light allowed and led Equality to his freedom of being himself rather than
characterized as a group with his brothers. Equality discovering and inventing the lightbulb was his
first realization of individuality. In the dark haze of this society, all things are indistinct. Until when
light is brought to display can those with abnormal qualities be distinguished from the crowd.
Consequently, Equality s lightbulb makes him a sign of massive social disturbance but, at the same
time that it helps him see himself as the unique individual that he truly is. Tomorrow, in the full light
of day, we shall take

Eric Foner Reconstruction Summary
Eric Foner s A Short History of Reconstruction begins with a short historiography overviewing how
historians views of reconstruction has changed. He does this by introducing the first understanding of
reconstruction, and then moves to different schools of thought that progressed through time until the
latest interpretation today. The first understanding of reconstruction, in which the Dunning School had
the largest influence, pushed the idea that the South gracefully accepted their defeat, and just wanted
to rejoin the Union and govern again. Under this school, white southerners wanted freedmen to
succeed, and were ready to be cooperative. However, against Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson s
wishes, Radical Republicans sought to punish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Progressives had a very unfavorable view of reconstruction. The progressives believed that Johnson
was a victim of the radical republicans, who painted themselves with the moral high ground, but only
favored black suffrage and rights as a way to control the South politically and economically. Foner
then provides some survivors and black historians, like W.E.B. Du Bois, that dissented from the
previous rendering of reconstruction. Reconstruction, for these historians, was an idealistic effort to
transition the country from slavery to a racial harmony. These writers also paint freedmen as real
changemakers in reconstruction, not just people affected by white policy. Foner then writes of the
revisionists who drew from these dissenters, and from new scholarship and evidence. Foner also notes
that this revisionary spirit could come from a change in racial attitudes, associated with the modern
civil rights movements. The revisionists go against the thought of Johnson as a victim, and instead
clear the stigma associated with the radicals who had gotten him impeached. They write that the
reconstruction legislation was not forced through by radials, and instead had public and congressional
support. They also try to erase the belief that the South was a victim, and instead wrote of the services
that the republicans brought to the South, like public schools, equal citizenship, and the rebuilding of

our body during digestion process, So, what really happens in our body when we digest?
Scene 1; Mouth
Digestion first begins in the mouth, using mechanical digestion. Incisors first bite into the food
breaking the polymers into smaller monomers. As the food goes further into your mouth the food is
then ground by your molars. This breaks down the food into smaller particles, which is then mixed by
the tongue along with saliva. Saliva is secreted by the salivary glands into the mouth, and this saliva
contains enzymes to help break down the food. Complex carbohydrates, such as starch or glycogen,

Once the bolus enters the stomach, the lower oesophageal sphincter contracts to prevent acid reflux.
Folds in the stomach allow for the stomach to expand as the stomach fills. The stomach excretes
hydrochloric acid and other enzymes which allow for the break down of the bolus, as well as mucus to
help protect the lining of the stomach walls against the stomach acid. Protein digestion begins in the
stomach, where stomach acid of pH of 1 disrupts protein structure which allows for proteolytic
enzymes, also known as proteases, to reduce large proteins to polypeptides (Human Anatomy).
Stomach acid has numerous jobs in the breaking down of the bolus such as; rendering minerals more
soluble, maintains acidity, killing microbes and converts inactive digestive enzymes to their active
form. The muscle contractions in the stomach causes the bolus to turn into chyme, a food mixture with
a watery like texture. The chyme now enters the small intestine through the pyloric sphincter at the
base of the stomach, which regulates the rate at which chyme is released into the small

achievements. There are many Different types of role models, they can be singers, Public speakers,
Friends Or family. But above them, all is Opera Winfrey.
Oprah Winfrey, Is a Big part of my life, from her speeches, shows, Passions and the Rough Childhood
she had once Lived. When Most People Think of Oprah Winfrey They think of her fame or her money.
But I have a whole different view of her yes opera has money But think of how she earned that money.
Oprah always keeps a Positive Mindset Despite her hard childhood experiences. When Opera was
nine years old She was abused and rapped which made opera pregnant at such a young age. But Oprah
Fought through it and forgave, and didn t hold that against herself. When opera was young she even
got abused by her mother and got a lack of attention from her. But what inspires me is that even
though her difficult life Oprah Stuck up for her education and made it a priority, And not a minority.
Oprah has many life incidents that inspire me greatly and Through her life, she will keep inspiring

The Nsa Should Create A Privilege Management Program
The IT department should create a privilege management program in active directory that ensures
personnel only have access to material to resources and information they require. These access
controls should also be deployed when there s a suspicion or termination of an employee. In the case
of the two interns, the network administrator should create login hours and system specific login s tp
prevent any leak in information during the after hours. The recent issues at the National Security
Agency (NSA) displayed what can happen with an unaudited IT department, and according to the
Register:
The NSA policy prevents a typical worker from doing things like copying files to USB thumb drives
or other external storage. But Snowden had an easy way around those restrictions, simply by virtue of
being classified as systems administrator. With that privilege, Snowden would have been able to move
files around at will, sources claim (Tim Worstall, 2013). This catastrphe could have been prevented, if
the NSA had a robust access control in place to detour Snowden from causing significant damage.
Some network security concerns that should be addressed is the physical component while damage
can be inflicted on the network from remote terminal, an attacker with physical access is a much
greater concern. The Global Accounting network system should be placed in a secure room where
only essential personnel have access. Network devices such as the modem and router should be

The Effects Of History And Social Structures On Our Lives...
Experiences play a vital role on who we are as a person, more importantly the memories that we ve
had as children stick with us for the rest of our lives. They help structure and model us into a person
that will eventually do extraordinary things that will affect others around us. In first world countries
most experiences as a child are generally the same for everyone because they live in a safe shielded
environment that protects them anything bad that could happen but, children growing up in third
world countries face horrible experiences that can cost them their lives but they believe is the norm.
Through my primary research I have discovered that history and social structures have had a great
impact on my personal life than ever imagined having to growing up in a third world country. After
developing my secondary research, the information I collected is proof of events that have ultimately
lead to factors of my development from an infant to who I am as a person today. Throughout my life
there were different historical events occurring at the time in my home country and my future country
that unfolded to shape and model my life to make me the person that I am today. I am able to identify
specific events that separately correspond to the process of coming to Canada before while residing in
my home country, during the immigration process to come here, and after arriving in Canada. In this
essay I will be talking about how these historical events and social structures shaped

Relations Between Iran And The Middle East
Oil. This one word can explain the relationship between the western world especially the United
States and the Middle East. It can be used to trace the reasoning behind many interactions between
these two spheres of the world. It is also the basis of one of the most controversial foreign policy
operations of the United States, Operation Ajax. Although Operation Ajax happened sixty years ago,
its consequences had immediate and lasting effects on both Iran and American Iranian relations. I will
argue that the coup led to the 1979 Islamic revolution and consequently put into motion the strained
relations between Iran and the United States; it also had significant effects on both the United States
and Iran s political history. I will cement my argument by giving a detailed account of Operation Ajax
and the players involved in it as well as giving descriptive examples of why it happened as well as
how it continues to have a lasting effect.
The United States has no credibility as a bearer of democracy to Iran because of its role in crushing
democracy there half a century ago (Kinzer xvii). This was said by Akbar Ganji an Iranian dissident
who precisely struck a significant point of American Iranian relations. That one sentence explains
exactly what happened during Operation Ajax Iran s first democracy was destroyed in an attempt to
protect self interested parties of the western world. Operation Ajax was a coup organized and carried

Ikea s Global Sourcing Challenge Indian Rugs And Child Labor
IKEA S GLOBAL SOURCING CHALLENGE INDIAN RUGS AND CHILD LABOR
In 1995, Marianne Barner, IKEA s manager for carpets, faced a difficult situation when one of their
Indian rug supplier apparently was involved with the use of child labor in the manufacture of its
products for IKEA. Even though they had a contract where IKEA explicitly forbid the use of child
labor. These Allegations generated mixed opinion regarding the future of all the Indian carpet
suppliers and the company was studying the future impacts of its decision.
In order to assess and give recommendations to IKEA, it is important to fully understand the
operations and the values that drive the company, ant its philosophy. Since was founded in 1954 by
Ingvar Kamprad the Swedish company s vision of creating a better life for the many people inspired
them to develop high quality and lower cost products in the furniture business, and almost a decade
later, after they consolidate in the Swedish market, they made the decision to expand abroad opening
stores in Northway and Denmark respectively (Exhibit 1). With a relatively rapid expansion the
company needed to transmit their unique philosophy and created the testament of a furniture Dealer
and trained ambassadors to help spread and secure the firm s values (Exhibit 3). Furthermore, IKEA s

The Ideas On Social Reform
yler Skeen
HIST 281
11/16/2016
Lest we forget at least an over the shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our
legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins
or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so
effectively that he at least won his own kingdom Lucifer (Alinsky, Personal Acknowledgement). Saul
Alinsky was a social reformer during the Cold War era in American History. He published Rules For
Radicals in 1971. As the name implies, the manifesto contains some radical ideas on social reform.
The manifesto outlines the ethics, tactics and philosophy of how to successfully shift power from the
Haves to the Have nots. Alinsky created a controversial body of propaganda in the way he challenges
core moral values of American beliefs for the time period such as Capitalism and the class system. He
further challenges American beliefs by questioning the foundational ideologies of Americans such as
the extent of equality, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To argue that Saul Alinsky s Rules For
Radicals does not have radical ideals is a misconception as the document challenges the class system
created by inequality, however, Saul Alinsky s vision in Rules For Radicals ethics, tactics and
philosophy is represented by ideals of equality, liberty and justice making the manifesto a continuum
of traditional American ideals fueled by the idea

Why We Need The Military
We must never forget why we have, and why we need our military. Our armed forces exist solely to
ensure our nation is safe, so that each and every one of us can sleep soundly at night, knowing we
have guardians at the gate, said Allen West,a retired Army lieutenant colonel and a former member of
the House of Representatives. He explained America s need for a strong military perfectly in this
quote. The United States depends on their military to protect them from all different kinds of threats
like cyber warfare or terrorist attacks.
In order to see why an increase in military spending is needed, one must look at the damaged
equipment, the need for new and improved equipment and then look at what it would take to defeat
ISIS.
After the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the amount of damaged equipment was immense. The Army
and the Marine Corps lost about 40 percent of their ground equipment from the wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan. The military still needs to replace some of the damaged equipment from the end of the
Iraq war in 2011. Some of the vehicles got blasted by bombs, others got covered up by desert sand,

electricity, this gets rid of the risks connected with keeping bombs on a ship. Another new weapon the
Navy has been working on, is a laser gun. A laser travels at the speed of light. This would give sailors
better accuracy when they fire instead of guessing how high they have to aim depending on how far
the object is. According to the Navy Times, once in action, the laser weapon only costs about one

The Artifacts of Rock and Pop
Rock and pop have been evolving areas of music for the last fifty years. They have created riches for
people, and have created artifacts that are now considered precious. Christie s Rock Pop Memorabilia
by Peter Doggett and Sarah Hodgson describes the basic information of artists and their now famous
music and artifacts. If you are wondering what a memorabilia is, in Merriam Webster s dictionary a
memorabilia is defined as, objects or materials that are collected because they are related to a
particular event, person, etc. The ages of rock and pop have had an abundance of memorabilia that is
worthy of recognition. Memorabilia is an important area of rock and pop. In addition, memorabilia has
evolved widely over the past fifty years. This book does a great job of outlining this, Today, every
item of memorabilia connected with an artist like Madonna from badges to posters, photos to videos,
lines of cosmetics to fashion ranges has to be officially approved by her or by her management. That
certainly wasn t the case in the past (144). With all the new privacy laws, this change is not necessarily
a reasonable change, for it makes the whole process of commercialization complicated. Full of value,
memorabilia s are expensive items today. The proof has been outlined by this book, Although the

The Independence Of Puerto Rico
Introduction
The attempted assassination of President Truman was an indication that Puerto Ricans would use any
necessary means to gain independence. Puerto Rico has been a territory of the United States for almost
a century. The citizens of Puerto Rico have always had different views on whether they want
independence or greater autonomy. The following essay will focus on the commonwealth status of
Puerto Rico and the attempted assassination of President Truman.
The commonwealth status of Puerto Rico between the 1950 1952 was with limited autonomy since the
Island was still under the Sovereignty of the United States (Francesco, C. Eugene, 1999). The United
States annexed Puerto Rico following the end of the Spanish American War. For almost a century
Puerto Rico has been under the influence of the United States. The constitutional convention of 1952
gave Puerto Rico the right to form a republican government.
The citizens of Puerto Rico were not satisfied with the current status. For instance, under the
commonwealth status, Puerto Ricans could not exercise their political rights. While they were
considered the United States citizens, they could participate in the voting exercise in the United States.
The Island has no representation in the Electoral College, which means that none of the citizens can
take part in the presidential elections. This was a major challenge for the Puerto Ricans, who felt that
there was a need for change. The Puerto Ricans were also not protected

Walter Benjamin and the past disassociating with present
In Walter Benjamin s Berlin Childhood Around 1900, he applies a variety of concepts with respect to
time: past, present, and future. The concepts are highlighted in his vignettes: Victory Column , The
Telephone , and Butterfly Hunt . Benjamin attempts to imbue his writing with a different structure of
time from what was conventional. He perceives history as a section of moments, and each moment is
an integral whole in its own right, making it equal to the present (Knights). Benjamin also notes that
the ignoring of the past and the focus on the progression of the future causes harmful effects to nature
(Knights). The concept of technological progress appears to give grounds for the domination and
abuse of nature (Patke). Subsequently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though Benjamin attributes a sense of delight to his image of the Victory Column , there is also a
contrasting affect of death that permeates through the vignette. There is a portico around the Victory
Column, but it is when Benjamin asserts that this portico was itself the inferno a sense of death
becomes apparent. It is evident that Benjamin wants to spotlight the darkness around the column. It
seems that Benjamin is using this past image to illustrate a sense of responsibility for the innocently
suffered of past generations. Benjamin is placing a redemptive quality to the death of the past
individuals. There is a sense of redemption embedded in his past. Benjamin wants it visible that the
Victory is surrounded by death, which is analogous of his present situation. Sigmund Freud agrees
with Benjamin s reluctance on war as he states war Broke out, and it brought disillusion (Freud 172)
and that A future war, because of such great advances in the means of destruction, would mean the
extermination of one or perhaps both adversaries. (Freud 231). If Germany in Benjamin s present is to
obtain a Victory in its oppressive endeavor, it is through mass death, which is proven through the past.
Thus, the Victory Column depicts Benjamin s past delights before his innocence was corrupted by the
future, and an example of how studying the past and its follies can save immense death.
Progression through technological advancement is a process

Formalistic Analysis of Hills Like White Elephants
In an analysis of the story Hills like white elephants by Ernest Hemmingway, one is forced to take a
deep look at the hidden meanings embedded in the story. Considering the point of view, the
significance of the location and its relevance to the story, the structure of the text, the symbolic
meaning of the two landscapes and the title of the story, the entrails of the story are exposed.
Hemmingway s story is written in an objective or dramatic point of view. The story is told primarily
through dialogue. The narrator has emotionally distanced himself from the characters, and the true
feelings and opinions of the characters are revealed in little clues as the story progresses. The narrator

barren and arid, the other green and fertile. The valley of the Ebro was long and white... there was no
shade and no trees... On the other side, were fields of grain and trees. These opposing landscapes
symbolize the contrasting options available to the couple. The dry side of the valley represented the

However, dry carpet cleaning has often been misunderstood as a cleaning method suitable only for

Over recent years, with further developments and research, dry carpet cleaning systems has now come

Confinement In The Chrysanthemums
John Steinbeck s use of imagery shows the use of confinement by relating Elisa to the
Chrysanthemums. Confinement is when someone feels like they are locked in somewhere. The
Chrysanthemums are a symbolism of Elisa s strengths within herself in the wire fenced garden. When
Elisa leaves her garden in the wire fence she loses all her strengths and confidence. The theme uses
confinement in The Chrysanthemums when it talks about the fog at the beginning. It reads, The high
gray flannel fog of winter closed off the Salinas Valley from the sky and from all the rest of the world
( The Chrysanthemums ) . The fog makes Elisa feel like she lives in a pot with a lid on top. Another

Symptoms And Treatment Of Delirium
Delirium is an acute change in brain function that can be accompanied by inattention and either a
change in cognition or perceptual disturbances (Allen and Alexander, 2012). Delirium in critical care
patients is very common, it actually occurs in 2 out of 3 intensive care patients who are on a ventilator,
but often goes undetected because delirium monitoring is considered too time consuming or unreliable
(Reade and Finfer, 2014). Intensive care unit (ICU) patients that have delirium spend more days on a
ventilator, remain on sedation longer, have increased chance for infections, have longer hospital stays,
and higher mortality rates during their hospital admission and in the 6 months after.
According to Eastwood, Peck, Bellomo, Baldwin, and Reade (2012), most of these patients are also
left with permanent cognitive problems that they struggle with for years. Not only does delirium cause
more issues with the patients, it can cost the hospital more money due to increased length of stay,
hospital acquired infections such as pneumonia, and re admissions. Studies have shown that using the
confusion assessment method (CAM) every shift, and performing the assessment correctly, can help
detect delirium in ICU patients earlier. When delirium is caught early the healthcare team can initiate
interventions to decrease the severity of delirium and work towards better outcomes for the patient.

How To Modernise Othello
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, and I hope you re as excited as I am to be here, to discuss with
you my new film pitch, a modern adaptation of one of Shakespeare s most loved classics, Othello.
Despite being written to pander to the lowest common demoniter in Elizabethan times, Shakespeare,
in our society, seems to be reserved for scholars and the well educated, with its use of language
lowering it s accessibilty and providing us with a barrier to enjoyment , making it relatively obsolete
in our times.
Modernising Othello provides an opportunity to transform the play into an understandable and
relevant story, whilst preserving the themes, values and attitudes portrayed in the original, however,
manipulating them to resonate with a modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Entitled The Treachery of Images , the film makes reference to Magritte s infamous pipe painting,
reminding us that we should not necessarily believe in what we see and think, as deception lies in
every nook and cranny in our lives, meaning that nothing can truly be trusted. This is a modern and
novel nod to Othello, as the play itself is an adept exploration of the faces of good and evil, proving
the end point that nothing, and no one, are truly what they seem.
My vision re casts Othello as Oliver, a 20th century English Duke, who, despite his constant
questioning of the church and it s values, is appointed as mayor of a small village, leaving the
metropolitan haven of the city, and into a place where he is neither trusted nor accepted. With him
come his faithful and sweet wife, Dorothea, who married him against her heavily religious fathers
wishes, and his two sons, Ichabod and Charles. Whilst Oliver trusts, and supposedly favours, Ichabod,
Charles is far more successful than his brother, meaning he is named sole heir of the families wealth
and estate. For fair natured and trustworthy Ichabod, this would be a choice that he would support
wholly, however, a changling has taken his place, a curse put upon him by the God that he questions
so freely. Under the pretense of being Ichabod, the changeling begins to wreak havoc, coaxing Oliver
into pyschosis and convincing him that there is something Oedipal occuring between Charles and
Dorothea, and eventually causing Oliver to murder

The Carnal Prayer Mat by Yu Li
Vesperus masculine beauty is a central theme in Li Yu s moral comedy, The Carnal Prayer Mat. What s
more, his life trajectory parallels non Mahayana Indic accounts of Siddhartha s path to enlightenment,
particularly on the emphasis placed on descriptions of both men s physical perfection and their
subsequent sexual appetite and prowess. Both Vesperus and Siddhartha s masculine beauty propels
them forward on their life paths, positioning them in the simultaneously instructive and destructive
feminine sphere of the inner quarter. The wealth of sexual experiences gives both men the necessary
insight for their critical realization of the superficiality and emptiness of a life guided by carnal desires

What s more, these gifts of beauty and intelligence are described as Heavenly endowed. When first
meeting Vesperus, Lone Peak muses, What a fine intelligence the man has! But the Creator is at fault
for giving him this physical form. Why match a heart that was meant for the study of Buddha with a
face that will lead to damnable deeds? (Yu 21). This sentiment of beauty as a cosmic gift from higher
beings is echoed in Vesperus narcissistic self reflection when deciding whether to take a life path of
asceticism, filial piety, or sexual debauchery: Since Heaven has given birth to someone like me, it
must also have given birth to a girl fit to be my mate....That is why at twenty I am still unmarried I
want to do full justice to my genius and my looks (Yu 25).
Vesperus wish to do justice to his intellectual brilliance and looks speaks to the degree to which
masculine beauty is an important catalyst of sexual desire and subsequent acts of seduction and moral
transgression. Lone Peak describes Buddha, the Lord of Heaven, as a doting and overly indulgent
parent who has blundered in giving a favored child, Vesperus, too many blessings:
By the time the boy grows up, he is convinced that his body and nature were given to him by Heaven
and Earth and nurtured by his father and mother so that no harm will ever befall him, and he does any
wicked thing that enters his head. Only

The Spartan II Project By Dr. Catherine Halsey
It all started with ORION Project without it The Spartan II project never would have been born, it was
the idea that a small special forces teams would be better than a large army they were to costly the
damage was becoming too great. This new idea was cheeps saved the lives of solders and was better at
getting the job done. But combating with the insurgents was becoming too much for the UNSC to
manage. As the enemy grow in numbers and strength they became more effective and more forceful,
the need for large scale military campaigns became increasingly encouraged. Soon after this
realization in the later months of 2517 The Spartan II project was conceived by Dr. Catherine Halsey
who happened to be successor to the ORION Project and was the best possible solution to end the
widespread raged that flooded throughout UNSC space. The project was created these goals in mind.
First was to create a group of elite soldiers meant to subdue any obstacle in their way, with little to no
military casualties, second goal was to minimize civilian casualties and to prevent a civil war from
ever happening and thirdly goal was minimizing the general cost of war. Halsey s proposal for the
project was farfetched at best it detailed radical changes and would test the boundaries of people s
ethical beliefs and moral code. The first and most controversial was the subjects themselves, they were
picked from a gene candidate pool of boys all at the age of six years old. This narrowed the

Competitive Strategy Of Starbucks
1. What is the competitive strategy of your company?
Founded in 1971, Starbucks has taken the coffee industry by storm. With thousands of licensed stores
around the world, Starbucks is arguably the largest coffee company around. They re well known for
their handcrafted premium coffees and teas; which are also sold in many retail and grocery stores like
Wal Mart and Metro respectively. They also serve a variety of original and fresh food items to further
their brand and help satisfy their customers. This ensures that Starbucks has the greatest opportunity to
dominate the market; as they are saturating every area available. Higher exposure and customer
loyalty leads to increased growth and profit for the company. Starbuck s approach is heavily focused
on the differentiation strategy; which requires the company to develop products and service that are
unique in their market. Companies who use this strategy must serve customers at an exceptional level;
with all departments being high quality. Instead of following the industry s main competitors,
Starbucks recognized that they could take advantage of the missing products in the coffee industry.
Instead of following chains like Tim Horton s and Dunkin Donuts, seeks to provide exclusive that are
admired by their audience. Differentiation is incredibly attractive as it allows the company to be more
flexible with their products and has the highest potential to be very sustainable especially at a low
cost. Starbuck s specializes

Mel Brooks Essay
Biography
[edit] Early life
Born Melvin Kaminsky in Brooklyn, New York, U.S., to Polish Jewish parents Maximillian Kaminsky
and Kate Kittie Brookman. Brooks grandfather, Abraham Kaminsky, was a herring dealer who
immigrated in 1893. He and his wife Bertha raised their ten children on Henry Street on the Lower
East Side of New York City.
His father died of kidney disease at age 34. A year later, in 1930, Kittie Kaminsky and her sons Irving,
Leonard, Bernard and Melvin were living at 365 S. 3rd St. in the Williamsburg neighborhood of
Brooklyn, NY.
As a child, Mel was a small and sickly boy. He was bullied and picked on by his peers. By taking on
the comically aggressive job of Tummler in various Catskills resorts, he overcame ... Show more

Brooks developed a repertory company of sorts for his film work: performers with three or more
Brooks films to their credit include Gene Wilder, Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman,
Cloris Leachman, Ron Carey and Andréas Voutsinas. Dom DeLuise has appeared in six of Brooks 12
films, the only person with more appearances being Brooks himself.
In 1975, at the height of his movie career, Brooks tried TV again with When Things Were Rotten, a
Robin Hood parody that lasted only 13 episodes. Nearly 20 years later, Brooks mounted another
Robin Hood parody with Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
In 1980 Brooks became interested in producing the dramatic film The Elephant Man (directed by
David Lynch). Knowing that anyone seeing a poster reading Mel Brooks presents The Elephant Man
would expect a comedy, he set up the company Brooksfilms. Brooksfilms has since produced a
number of non comedy films, including David Cronenberg s The Fly, Frances, and 84 Charing Cross
Road, starring Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft, as well as comedies, including Richard Benjamin
s My Favorite Year.
The 1980s saw Brooks produce and direct only two films, the first being History of the World Part I in
1981, a tongue in cheek look at human culture from the Dawn of Man to the French Revolution. As
part of the film s soundtrack, Brooks, then aged 55, recorded a rap entitled It s Good to Be the King ,
sending up Louis XVI and the French Revolution; it was released as a single, and

The Negative Effects of Humans and Nature on Florida’s...
Nature designed Florida to be one large marine ecosystem. Florida is one big sand peninsula located
below the 40th longitudinal North American line. Three bodies of salt water (Gulf of Mexico, Strait of
Florida and Atlantic Ocean) surround three out of four directions of Florida. Man made canals, natural
lakes, rivers and estuaries are confined within the State of Florida s physical boundaries. All of these
form an interlocking system of waterways that impact the interconnected marine environment (marine
ecosystem). All of Florida s waterways are connected back to the surrounding bodies of water while
passing through Florida s sub tropical and temperate zones and impact the delicate marine ecosystem
balance. Man and nature are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of these areas has a historic recorded hit by one or more major hurricanes. Because hurricane
winds start at 75 mph and can reach up to 156 miles per hour or more, the damage of the winds can be
extensive (NOAA). Winds will rip the roof off of a house or tip over a mobile home. Debris is
scattered with bullet like force. Storm surge floods buildings, streets and lands. Hurricane spawned
tornado winds cause extra natural destruction. Finally, what little natural habitat is left untouched by
humans can be fully devastated by hurricane aftermath.
Most Atlantic hurricanes start out in the North Atlantic Ocean, which is called the hurricane breeding
ground. Rarely a hurricane will form in the Caribbean Sea and sometimes the Gulf of Mexico. The
extremely rare tropical storm is one forming right off of a landmass. This rarity occurred in the most
recent 2009 hurricane season with the eye of the tropical storm named Claudette coming ashore over
the Florida panhandle and reaching 60 mph of the 75 mph limit to be considered a category 1
hurricane (NOAA). Under average circumstances, once formed, a tropical storm will build up speed as
it spins across the warm shallow waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico (NOAA)
building into a hurricane and then moving across the water until dissipating over a landmass. A
hurricane shifts the ocean s sand banks as

  • 2. Compare And Contrast China And Japan During the 19th century, after a long period of isolation, both China and Japan underwent social and political changes to open up to foreign trade and interaction with European forces. Both countries eventually signed treaties with Western provinces such as the United States and Great Britain in order to establish a trade relationship to induce and increase commercial trade networks. Even though culture and civilization in China and Japan were fairly similar, both countries had distinct reactions to Western influences in their societies which impacted the way that the two empires developed socially, culturally, politically and intellectually over time. Whereas Japan accepted Western ideals and even went so far as to emulate them by implementing them into their society, China succumbed to European power because of its reluctance to follow Western influences. Since Chinese officials and rulers in the empire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the West did not infiltrate Japan until the 1850s, around ten years after the first opium war, the Europeans did not focus on westernizing Japan because of its lack of natural resources, small trading network, and lessened demand for Western goods. However, the European powers did focus on China because of their extensive amount of resources and their vast trading network which made them a target for European colonization and imperial rule. During the opium war in the mid 1800s, there were many Anglo Chinese disputes over British trade in China, the East India Company, and China s sovereignty and judicial equality because it destabilized its Canton system of trading and made a new way for a rise in free trade imperialism to ensue. These wars between China and the European powers further weakened the Qing Dynasty and decreased China s deliberate separation with the rest of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Tips for Good Print Design Student Network Resources Inc. Some factors to consider for good print design are accurate use of bleeds, edges, cropping, color, and elements of typography. Text should not be cut off or flowing over into the folding of brochures or the next newsletter columns. Print layout and design elements must meet in order to produce excellent advertising copy. Bleeding Bleeding occurs when a design element such as print or an image extends further than the edge of the margins or page. Sometimes this can be intended for effect, but is viewed as unprofessional if unintentional (Graphic Fetish, 2009). Cropping Crop marks, cropping is an element used to trim off the unnecessary parts of a picture image, or page. The crop marks are the cutting lines that are guides to setting areas being cut. Color Schemes Color can draw or detract from a print design. Using complementary colors in print can give warmth and an inviting feel to the print or it can bore the audience (Graphic Fetish, 2009). Understanding how to properly use color is important in reaching an audience or highlighting the capture of an eventful moment (Wildfire.com, 2012). Typography design refers to how the printed material is laid out. Is the print copy effective in relaying the message to the audience or does it disrupt or interfere with the message (Kyrnin, 2012). The lack of proper consideration of such factors will result in unattractive spacing issues that show up when the design is flattened out or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Perfect Nature Of Love And Sonnet 130 By William... The English, or Shakespearian, sonnet has the simplest and most flexible patterns of all sonnets. It consists of three quatrains of alternation rhyme and an ending couplet which concludes the sonnet. William Shakespeare is known for his works such as Romeo and Juliet, but he is well known for his sonnets. William Shakespeare s sonnet 116 and sonnet 130 describe love in a different way; however, the sonnets center around the same idea. Sonnet 116 is about love in its most ideal form. The first four lines, or the first quatrain, show that love is constant and will not alter when it alteration finds (l. 3). The lines that comes after that say true love is indeed an ever fixed mark (l. 5) that can make it through anything. Shakespeare claims that we can measure love, whose worth s unknown (ll. 7 8), only to a degree or not in an understandable way. The perfect nature of love is unshakeable throughout time, and it remains so even to the edge of doom, (l. 12) or death. In the couplet, he declares that if he is wrong about the constant, unmovable nature of love then he must take back his writings on love. He states that if he has judged love in the wrong way, no individual has ever loved. Sonnet 130 is about a mistress who does not have much beauty. Shakespeare compares her to things that are supposed to be beautiful. This comparison tells the reader that her eyes are nothing like the sun (l. 1). He also says that her lips are not as coral; compared to white show, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Scenario Between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie, And Patice Scenario Explained The scenario between Arnold, Bertram, Charlie and Doris is a classic issue of offer and acceptance. These are two elements of a valid contract. The scenario also raises its potential of being an invitation to treat as this is a stark contrast to that of an offer. That is, we must consider whether the notice placed on the car constitutes a valid offer or if it was a mere invitation to treat. If this notice does amount to a valid offer where Arnold outlines the terms and conditions (the price at which he was willing to sell and his telephone number) by which he is willing to be legally bound we must look at the possible issues that may arise and what possible steps Arnold can take to deal with his situation. Arnold appears to be the principal party who makes definite terms pertaining to the sale of his car, from this we can conclude that the notice placed on his cars does in fact demonstrate a clear intent to be legally bound. This is a unilateral offer where Arnold outlined the terms and condition to which he is willing to be legally bound, he is inviting the public to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Black and white, male and female, Jew and Christian, rich and poor ordinary people who came together across differences to advance this nation s core value of equality and demand an end to the discrimination against African Americans. Juliette Morgan was a woman of wealth, status, education and connections. She was an aristocrat of Montgomery society. On the surface, she appeared to be the definitive Southern belle. One seemingly insignificant thing about Morgan s life separated her from her privileged friends. She had severe anxiety attacks. These attacks prevented her from driving her own car so, to get to work, she rode the city buses in Montgomery. On those buses, she saw white bus drivers use the tone and manners of mule drivers in their treatment of Negro passengers. • 7. Lab Report On Hydrogen Peroxide Hydrogen Peroxide Rate of Reaction By Kevin Frappier 10/15/2017 BIOL133 Abstract The reason for conducting this lab is discover is changing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) concentration will affect the rate of reaction. During the experiment, the H2O2 rate will be changed and pressure will be measured using a gas pressure sensor. The data suggests that as the hydrogen peroxide concentration increases, the rate of diffusion increases and that my hypothesis is valid. Introduction Hydrogen peroxide is a by product of biochemical metabolism. The accumulation of hydrogen peroxide can be deadly, so it must be decomposed. One of the decomposing factors is an enzyme called Catalase. Catalase breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Since this is a decomposition reaction, it is exothermic. Hydrogen peroxide can gradually degenerate itself, it decomposes much faster with the help of Catalase which lowers the activation energy to the minimum energy barrier that hydrogen peroxide molecules should overcome to decompose. • 8. The Importance Of Female Characters In Disney Films Children s animation has always been a specific genre that attracts a lot of attention due to the affect its characters can have on young kids. Arguably the most popular children s animated films franchise is the Disney Princess line, where about twelve female characters from these Disney films serve as the main protagonist throughout their respective movies. Young girls around the world obsess over the Disney Princesses as they remain highly popular due to frequent films and merchandising. The Princesses who star in these films are seen as role models to these young women, especially in American culture as they typically have redeemable qualities and make the best out of troublesome situations. Although Disney films are especially popular in the United States as well as worldwide, they are not as well favored in Japan. Japanese animated children s films are beloved in their home country, specifically ones that feature a strong, pre teen female protagonist. The Studio Ghibli film studio has many female roles in their animated films, and audiences view these characters as more age appropriate to their target audience: female children and pre teen girls. American audiences that are exposed to these Japanese films seem to agree that the female characters are more realistic, more personable, and have better views and goals than those of the Disney Princess franchise. A good soundtrack not only allows for the listener to understand the film better, but it should also bring to mind particular scenes, images, or characters. Soundtracks for books can do the same. In my creation of a soundtrack for Octavia E. Butler s Parable of the Sower, I strove to encompass Lauren s journey throughout the novel and the various emotions that she experiences. They are willing to put themselves out on the line for each other as the song supports: I m bleeding out / So if the last thing that I do / Is bring you down / I ll bleed out for you (Imagine Dragons). The song is melancholy, but also fast paced which is indicative of the group s movement through the terrain. They come across different factions where they experience bloodshed, death, and learn more about the horrors of the world. Yet they stick up for one another and join together to form a stronger unit. In once particular scene, the original trio comes up against wild dogs, which the song can relate to directly: When the hour is nigh /And hopelessness is sinking in /And the wolves all cry / To fill the night with hollering (Imagine Dragons). I said, Well, that s what I want to do when I grow up. (DeVeaux, 35) Cannonball Adderley said these words when he first saw Coleman Hawkins with the Fletcher Henderson band at the City Auditorium in Tampa, Florida. Just as Hawkins influenced one of the greatest alto players in history, he has influenced many people to become phenomenal saxophone players. The Effects Of Climate Change On Canada s Agriculture Climate Change will positively impact Canada s Agriculture Thesis: Climate change will negatively impact Canada s Agriculture due to heavy rainfall, droughts, irrigation problems, pesticide issues and not enough nutrients available? Intro Agriculture is highly dependent upon weather and climate in order to produce the food necessary to sustain human life. North America is the world s largest and most productive supplier of food and fiber (3). Canada is the second largest country in the world however it only contains five percent of land that is suitable for farming (7). This small farming area is divided in two different zones. The first zone is the great Prairies located in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and the mixed Wood Plains of the St. Lawrence River and the second zone is the Great Lakes regions (7). Approximately 80% of Canada s major farming is done the Prairies (7). There have been several recent studies that indicate most regions of Canada to warm up during the next 60 years (3). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2007 projected that global average temperature to increase by 1.5 to 4.5 degrees Celsius (3). Ironically, this would be the largest increase in global mean temperature in the last 10, 000 years (3). Symbolism In Anthem By Ayn Rand If you take myth and folklore, and these things that speak in symbols, they can be interpreted in so many ways that although the actual image is clear enough, the interpretation is infinitely blurred, a sort of enormous rainbow of every possible colour you could imagine (Diana Wynne Jones). Symbols are objects, characters, figures, or colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts. In Anthem by Ayn Rand, symbols are used throughout the novel, allowing to reveal more hidden information about Equality as a person as well as how it portrays to theme. Throughout the novel, multiple different symbols are being portrayed, although the symbol of light depicts the full meaning of the characters and theme of Anthem. Ayn Rand uses light to symbolize knowledge, hope, freedom, and life. The light symbolizes hope since, it shows how Equality separates himself from collectivism and thinks for himself when he proclaims We made it. We created it. We brought it forth from the night of the ages. We alone. Our hands. Our mind. Ours alone and only (59). By contrast to the light of the box, the City is dark and only lit by candlelight. Therefore the light shows the hope that Equality and all others have of breaking away from the collective society and becoming individuals and to have freedom to be themselves. The discovery of light starts Equality s journey of changing the society and granted him the chance to create a new world where light and other things from the Unmentionable Times exist. The symbolization of the light in Anthem helps characterize Equality as an individual in the novel in various different ways. The light allowed and led Equality to his freedom of being himself rather than characterized as a group with his brothers. Equality discovering and inventing the lightbulb was his first realization of individuality. In the dark haze of this society, all things are indistinct. Until when light is brought to display can those with abnormal qualities be distinguished from the crowd. He does this by introducing the first understanding of reconstruction, and then moves to different schools of thought that progressed through time until the latest interpretation today. The first understanding of reconstruction, in which the Dunning School had the largest influence, pushed the idea that the South gracefully accepted their defeat, and just wanted to rejoin the Union and govern again. Under this school, white southerners wanted freedmen to succeed, and were ready to be cooperative. Progressives had a very unfavorable view of reconstruction. The progressives believed that Johnson was a victim of the radical republicans, who painted themselves with the moral high ground, but only favored black suffrage and rights as a way to control the South politically and economically. Foner then provides some survivors and black historians, like W.E.B. Du Bois, that dissented from the previous rendering of reconstruction. Reconstruction, for these historians, was an idealistic effort to transition the country from slavery to a racial harmony. These writers also paint freedmen as real changemakers in reconstruction, not just people affected by white policy. Foner then writes of the revisionists who drew from these dissenters, and from new scholarship and evidence. Foner also notes that this revisionary spirit could come from a change in racial attitudes, associated with the modern civil rights movements. The revisionists go against the thought of Johnson as a victim, and instead clear the stigma associated with the radicals who had gotten him impeached. They write that the reconstruction legislation was not forced through by radials, and instead had public and congressional support. Folds in the stomach allow for the stomach to expand as the stomach fills. Protein digestion begins in the stomach, where stomach acid of pH of 1 disrupts protein structure which allows for proteolytic enzymes, also known as proteases, to reduce large proteins to polypeptides (Human Anatomy). Stomach acid has numerous jobs in the breaking down of the bolus such as; rendering minerals more soluble, maintains acidity, killing microbes and converts inactive digestive enzymes to their active form. The commonwealth status of Puerto Rico between the 1950 1952 was with limited autonomy since the Island was still under the Sovereignty of the United States (Francesco, C. Eugene, 1999). The United States annexed Puerto Rico following the end of the Spanish American War. For almost a century Puerto Rico has been under the influence of the United States. The constitutional convention of 1952 gave Puerto Rico the right to form a republican government. The citizens of Puerto Rico were not satisfied with the current status. For instance, under the commonwealth status, Puerto Ricans could not exercise their political rights. While they were considered the United States citizens, they could participate in the voting exercise in the United States. The Island has no representation in the Electoral College, which means that none of the citizens can take part in the presidential elections. • 32. Walter Benjamin and the past disassociating with present In Walter Benjamin s Berlin Childhood Around 1900, he applies a variety of concepts with respect to time: past, present, and future. The concepts are highlighted in his vignettes: Victory Column , The Telephone , and Butterfly Hunt . Benjamin attempts to imbue his writing with a different structure of time from what was conventional. He perceives history as a section of moments, and each moment is an integral whole in its own right, making it equal to the present (Knights). Benjamin also notes that the ignoring of the past and the focus on the progression of the future causes harmful effects to nature (Knights). The concept of technological progress appears to give grounds for the domination and abuse of nature (Patke). Subsequently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though Benjamin attributes a sense of delight to his image of the Victory Column , there is also a contrasting affect of death that permeates through the vignette. There is a portico around the Victory Column, but it is when Benjamin asserts that this portico was itself the inferno a sense of death becomes apparent. It is evident that Benjamin wants to spotlight the darkness around the column. It seems that Benjamin is using this past image to illustrate a sense of responsibility for the innocently suffered of past generations. Benjamin is placing a redemptive quality to the death of the past individuals. There is a sense of redemption embedded in his past. Benjamin wants it visible that the Victory is surrounded by death, which is analogous of his present situation. Sigmund Freud agrees with Benjamin s reluctance on war as he states war Broke out, and it brought disillusion (Freud 172) and that A future war, because of such great advances in the means of destruction, would mean the extermination of one or perhaps both adversaries. (Freud 231). If Germany in Benjamin s present is to obtain a Victory in its oppressive endeavor, it is through mass death, which is proven through the past. Thus, the Victory Column depicts Benjamin s past delights before his innocence was corrupted by the future, and an example of how studying the past and its follies can save immense death. Formalistic Analysis of Hills Like White Elephants In an analysis of the story Hills like white elephants by Ernest Hemmingway, one is forced to take a deep look at the hidden meanings embedded in the story. Considering the point of view, the significance of the location and its relevance to the story, the structure of the text, the symbolic meaning of the two landscapes and the title of the story, the entrails of the story are exposed. Hemmingway s story is written in an objective or dramatic point of view. The story is told primarily through dialogue. One side was barren and arid, the other green and fertile. The valley of the Ebro was long and white... there was no shade and no trees... On the other side, were fields of grain and trees. These opposing landscapes symbolize the contrasting options available to the couple. The dry side of the valley represented the choice to abort the unborn child and continue with an empty life filled shallow experiences, (looking) at things and (trying) new drinks. The fertile side of the valley represents the life the woman desires, one filled with family and meaningful moments. • 37. Symptoms And Treatment Of Delirium Delirium is an acute change in brain function that can be accompanied by inattention and either a change in cognition or perceptual disturbances (Allen and Alexander, 2012). Delirium in critical care patients is very common, it actually occurs in 2 out of 3 intensive care patients who are on a ventilator, but often goes undetected because delirium monitoring is considered too time consuming or unreliable (Reade and Finfer, 2014). Intensive care unit (ICU) patients that have delirium spend more days on a ventilator, remain on sedation longer, have increased chance for infections, have longer hospital stays, and higher mortality rates during their hospital admission and in the 6 months after. According to Eastwood, Peck, Bellomo, Baldwin, and Reade (2012), most of these patients are also left with permanent cognitive problems that they struggle with for years. Not only does delirium cause more issues with the patients, it can cost the hospital more money due to increased length of stay, hospital acquired infections such as pneumonia, and re admissions. Studies have shown that using the confusion assessment method (CAM) every shift, and performing the assessment correctly, can help detect delirium in ICU patients earlier. When delirium is caught early the healthcare team can initiate interventions to decrease the severity of delirium and work towards better outcomes for the patient. How To Modernise Othello Good morning ladies and gentlemen, and I hope you re as excited as I am to be here, to discuss with you my new film pitch, a modern adaptation of one of Shakespeare s most loved classics, Othello. Despite being written to pander to the lowest common demoniter in Elizabethan times, Shakespeare, in our society, seems to be reserved for scholars and the well educated, with its use of language lowering it s accessibilty and providing us with a barrier to enjoyment , making it relatively obsolete in our times. Modernising Othello provides an opportunity to transform the play into an understandable and relevant story, whilst preserving the themes, values and attitudes portrayed in the original, however, manipulating them to resonate with a modern ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Entitled The Treachery of Images , the film makes reference to Magritte s infamous pipe painting, reminding us that we should not necessarily believe in what we see and think, as deception lies in every nook and cranny in our lives, meaning that nothing can truly be trusted. This is a modern and novel nod to Othello, as the play itself is an adept exploration of the faces of good and evil, proving the end point that nothing, and no one, are truly what they seem. My vision re casts Othello as Oliver, a 20th century English Duke, who, despite his constant questioning of the church and it s values, is appointed as mayor of a small village, leaving the metropolitan haven of the city, and into a place where he is neither trusted nor accepted. With him come his faithful and sweet wife, Dorothea, who married him against her heavily religious fathers wishes, and his two sons, Ichabod and Charles. Whilst Oliver trusts, and supposedly favours, Ichabod, Charles is far more successful than his brother, meaning he is named sole heir of the families wealth and estate. For fair natured and trustworthy Ichabod, this would be a choice that he would support wholly, however, a changling has taken his place, a curse put upon him by the God that he questions so freely. Under the pretense of being Ichabod, the changeling begins to wreak havoc, coaxing Oliver into pyschosis and convincing him that there is something Oedipal occuring between Charles and Dorothea, and eventually causing Oliver to murder ... This sentiment of beauty as a cosmic gift from higher beings is echoed in Vesperus narcissistic self reflection when deciding whether to take a life path of asceticism, filial piety, or sexual debauchery: Since Heaven has given birth to someone like me, it must also have given birth to a girl fit to be my mate....That is why at twenty I am still unmarried I want to do full justice to my genius and my looks (Yu 25). As the enemy grow in numbers and strength they became more effective and more forceful, the need for large scale military campaigns became increasingly encouraged. Soon after this realization in the later months of 2517 The Spartan II project was conceived by Dr. Catherine Halsey who happened to be successor to the ORION Project and was the best possible solution to end the widespread raged that flooded throughout UNSC space. The project was created these goals in mind. First was to create a group of elite soldiers meant to subdue any obstacle in their way, with little to no military casualties, second goal was to minimize civilian casualties and to prevent a civil war from ever happening and thirdly goal was minimizing the general cost of war. With thousands of licensed stores around the world, Starbucks is arguably the largest coffee company around. They re well known for their handcrafted premium coffees and teas; which are also sold in many retail and grocery stores like Wal Mart and Metro respectively. They also serve a variety of original and fresh food items to further their brand and help satisfy their customers. This ensures that Starbucks has the greatest opportunity to dominate the market; as they are saturating every area available. Higher exposure and customer loyalty leads to increased growth and profit for the company. Starbuck s approach is heavily focused on the differentiation strategy; which requires the company to develop products and service that are unique in their market. Companies who use this strategy must serve customers at an exceptional level; with all departments being high quality. Instead of following the industry s main competitors, Starbucks recognized that they could take advantage of the missing products in the coffee industry.
