The Ones Who Walk Away By Ursula Le Guin
The Ones Who Walk Away is a short story by Ursula Le Guin. Le Guin bases this story off of an idea
posed by philosopher William James, which is how hideous would it be if people were willing to
accept the torment of one person for the sake of a perfect society. Le Guin paints this reality in a
Utilitarian city named Omelas in order to show the flaws within the Utilitarian belief system. In
Omelas people are able to indulge themselves in their wildest fantasies without any negative effects.
The people are portrayed as being happy, passionate, mature, and intelligent. Their happiness is based
solely on a just discrimination of what is necessary (231). Le Guin states that in Omelas there are no
clergy, but there can be religion. This leads to the people having no guilt because they are able to
indulge in their fleshly desires without anyone to inform them that it is wrong. What Le Guin is
portraying here is a nominal religion where one can claim to believe yet refuses to act out their faith.

There is a basement in one of the buildings with a tiny room, in which a child lives. This child is
malnourished and now has some sort of a mental illness. The child lives in solitude, except for the rare
occasion when one comes to see the child. Le Guin characterizes the child in a way that makes the
child seem less human. She claims that no one knows whether or not the child is a girl or a boy, and
she uses the pronoun it to describe the child. She also illustrates the child s living conditions, which
are inhumane as

Reasons for Mergers Acquisitions
The following are the other important reasons for mergers or amalgamations: 1. Economies of scale.
An amalgamation company will have more reasons at its command that the individual companies.
This will help in increasing the scale of operations and the economies of large scale will be available.
These economies will occur because of more intensive utilization of production facilities, distribution
network, research and development facilities, etc. these economies will be available in horizontal
mergers were scope of more intensive use of resources is greater. 2. Operating economies. A number
of operating economies will be availed with the merger of two or more companies. Duplicating
facilities in accounting, purchasing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The collective finances of merged companies will be more and their utilization may be better than in
the separate concerns. It may happen that one of the merging companies has short gestation period
while the other has the longer gestation period. The profits of the company with short gestation period
will be utilized to finance the other company. When the company with the longer gestation period
starts eating profits then it will improve financial position as a whole. 10. Economic necessity: It may
force the merger of some units. If there are two sick units, government may force their merger to
improve their financial position and over all working .a sick unit may be required to merge with the
healthy unit to insure better utilization of resources, improve and better management. Rehabilitation of
sick units is asocial necessity because their closure may result in UN employment etc. 11. Gaining
Cost Efficiency When two companies come together by merger or acquisition, the joint company
benefits in terms of cost efficiency. A merger or acquisition is able to create economies of scale which
in turn generates cost efficiency. As the two firms form a new and bigger company, the production is
done on a much larger scale and when the output production increases, there are strong chances that
the cost of production per unit of output gets reduced. 12. An increase in market share is one of the
plausible benefits of mergers and

Ethics In The Military Essay
To what extent is it morally right to force a subordinate to follow an order even if it is against their
will? Throughout everyday life, ethics are apparent within many aspects of an individual s life,
regardless of whether it s in the household, the workplace or even the military. without realizing what
they were. Ethics are principles that one follows in their life, which also affects the behavior of an
individual. The concepts of ethics falls into several components within one s life: events within history
such as Muhammad Ali s controversy, a religious stance like Christianity, or even a common structure,
in this case the military. This complex system contains many people with different upbringings and
morals which occasionally creates an ethical dilemma due to the different perspectives of the topic.
Within every branch of the military, a chain of command is inculcated into the members of service in
order to avoid many problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To look at it in a larger foundation, a disruption within the chain of command can influence one s
opinion on the choice of not following orders. The logic as to why the military functions as well as it
does comes from the obedience that becomes apparent between the two roles. However, if a disruption
between the relationship due to disobedience occurs, a chain reaction can appear and cause chaos.
Confucius explains that one needs to have determination to fulfil their official responsibilities even
when that meant disobeying orders (Chan, Wing tsit). Confucius is well known due to his status as a
philosopher, and for implying knowledge of ethics that he teaches in his works. By using reason to
reach conclusions, the fact that Confucius states that it s best to fulfil the duty of the job rather than
follow orders provides an ethical debate based on whether people think fulfilling a job is more
important or following orders to be more

Holy Trinity Research Paper
Christianity is one of the world s largest religions; however, Christianity is no longer a united religion
with one understanding of the faith. The numerous different interpretations of the Holy Bible and the
Christian faith have led to various denominations. One main controversy between Christian
denominations is the belief or non belief of the holy trinity. Pentecostal churches and Baptist are just
opposing side of the controversy; while Pentecostal belief is the literal interpretation of the Bible,
Baptist take a more loose understanding of the holy writings. Christianity originated in the first
century AD; Christianity teaches the life and death of Jesus Christ. The faith consists of many

During the twentieth century, the Pentecostal movement began to really surface although, there was
evidence of Pentecostalism in earlier times during history ( Pentecostalism ). The Oneness Pentecostal
movement is slightly more recent than other Pentecostal movements. Oneness Pentecostal beliefs
focus on the singular point that there is only one God, who manifests himself in different ways; this
belief separates Oneness Pentecostalism from other denominations that believe in the Trinitarian
doctrine. Oneness practices and teaching reject the belief that God is three individuals; instead believe
that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are ...merely titles reflecting the different personal manifestations
of the One True God... The disbelief in the Holy Trinity also affects the Oneness Pentecostal practices.
Oneness believers practice baptizing in the name of Jesus and receiving the Holy Spirit, followed by
evidence of speaking other languages which are unknown to the speaker. Oneness Pentecostals believe
that the Holy Bible is the word of God, and absolute in its contents ( Oneness Pentecostalism ).
Although, Oneness Pentecostals believers support their practices with biblical evidence, other

Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel
Luke, I am Your Father The relationship between fathers and their sons is an unbreakable bond. Every
man who finds out his spouse is having a baby, wishes for a son. All throughout history, sons carried
on the family name and honor, and parts of that honor system still remain today. This unspoken bond
between father and son leads to many other aspects of the relationship. A son feels a responsibility to
care for his father when he is ailing, because the father does the same for him. These themes resound
in Elie Wiesel s novel Night which was written about Wiesel s experiences in Nazi concentration
camps. This novel revolves around the father/son relationship in which Eliezer experiences first hand
and witnesses from afar.
When Elie s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eliezer was horrified by the thought, let alone to witness it with his own eyes. Eliezer fought with
tooth and nail to be able to keep his father close and alive. Other men just abandoned their fathers as if
they were merely a burden. After long hours of running and marching towards a different
concentration camp, the prisoners were finally able to take a break. Several prisoners died that night
from exhaustion. When it was time to leave, Eliezer describes the scene by saying, The dead remained
in the yard, under the snow without even a marker, like fallen guards....Sons abandoned the remains of
their fathers without a tear, (Pg 92). Elie was horrified by this sight and was thankful that his father
was still alive. The only reason neither Elie or his father passed away that night was because they
watched out for one another to make sure they did not pass away. That is an incredible bond. Elie was
always watching out for his father, and vice versa; however, others sons wished for their fathers
deaths, as to relieve a dead weight.
Some sons abused their fathers in order to show their personal strength. When everyone was being
transferred to another concentration camp, the men were not given food. When the train passed by a
certain German city, the onlookers threw bread into the train cars. A piece of bread was thrown into
Elie s car and it was chaos. There was a certain old

Women s Rights Thesis
Woman s rights alludes to political, social, and financial developments went for setting up more
noteworthy rights, legitimate insurance for ladies, as well as ladies freedom. It incorporates a
percentage of the sociological hypotheses and methods of insight worried with issues of sexual
orientation distinction. Nancy Cott characterizes woman s rights as the confidence in the significance
of sexual orientation balance, discrediting the thought of sex progressive system as a socially
developed idea.
Woman s rights has earned itself an awful notoriety, however it never undermined sex contrasts that
exist in the middle of guys and females. A man can never be as great a mother as a female can. Also, a
lady can never be as great a father as a male can. While tolerating these anatomical and physiological
contrasts between the two sexes, woman s rights looks for both sexes to be similarly regarded. They
are both human and as an animal types, people can t advance without both of them. ... Show more

CASE STUDY The Fork And Dagger Pub Essay examples
Founded in Straun, Ontario by Richard Lynch, the Fork and Dagger Pub was a growing business and
showed much success after opening in 1993. By using word of mouth advertising with the high traffic
taken in from playing the Norway Olympics in the pub, the Fork and Dagger Pub found itself with a
lot of sports enthusiasts as regular customers as well as students from local schools. But since 2008,
the Fork and Dagger Pub has declined in revenue and local patrons have seemed to vanish. With new
competitors in the area, and net income decreasing over $100,000 in four years Richard has decided to

Only business essential expenses were kept the same. So it would appear that external factors are to
blame for the Pub s revenue decline, for the only internal factor to compromise the pub s business is
the lack of change and innovation to the bar atmosphere and scenic value. Overall the Fork and
Dagger Pub has been identified as unfocused market strategy, and in need of a desperate change, for it
cannot keep up with new and growing businesses in the local area.
The Fork and Dagger Pub has currently two business proposals to help improve and regain revenue
for the establishment. Richard s two sons, Jason Bradley, both has prepared general ideas of where
they can take the business s target market. Jason s business proposal involves changing the restaurant s
old and outdated décor and working on promoting the business to compete with others bars. His plan
outlines purchasing pool tables ($5000 each), karaoke machine ($1500), DJ nights ($75 $125 an hour),
as well as overall renovating the interior (base at $6000) and changing for new tables and chairs at
$2000 a piece. He also hasn t really focused on the promotion side, but has ideas for Ladies Night,
Happy Hour as well as utilizing social media campaigns to give out coupons for drinks or food.

Personal Responsibility Leads To Success Case Study

August 27, 2012
Instructor: Jennifer Smith
Personal Responsibility Leads to Success Even though a person taking on too many responsibilities
can lead to his or her downfall, personal responsibility can lead to success in higher education.
Because responsibility is the force that binds an individual to the course of action demanded by the
goal, personal responsibility can incur beneficial habits and admirable behaviors that will advocate
successful outcome. The state of New York once sought to raise $24 million in donations to give to
poor residents as an incentive to stay in school, stay at work, and stay on track (Traub, 2006). I will be

In this case study 554 students divided into teams in accordance with their performance. Equal parts
high, average, and low performers. The teams engaged in class time, team discussions, and test, over
three semesters with one variance the grading. In semester one, the team received 10 points bonus if
the team raised their final grade by one point. In semester one, they made six points for team
improvement and four points for individual improvement. In semester three, the students collected 10
points, but only if they accomplished both individual, and group improvement. The group would not
collectively receive any points. This study found when high performance students benefited
individually they improved, but when only the group benefited their scores suffered. The high
performance students used their time reviewing material and helping the low performers understand
the material. They lost their own time for review and henceforth their grades suffered.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Personal responsibility is composed of many tools that will allow an individual or team
to succeed. Simply because it is, the force that keeps an individual on course with the end goal, using
these tools will enable inherent success. The practice of setting goals can help one to keep focused on
the task a hand, by knowing what goal a person is working at.

Exclusionary Rule Pros And Cons
The Exclusionary rule, as defined in our Criminal Justice Book: 7e, is the principle that illegally
obtained evidence must be excluded from trial. If any evidence, that falls within the field of the
exclusionary rule, is found that would otherwise not have been found by law enforcements, the rule
applies to linked evidence found and all the evidence after. This after evidence is often referred as fruit
of the poisonous tree. The exclusionary rule is also looked at in a way to block law enforcement

to defendants whose rights have been violated.

Pope Francis Controversy

However, I believe that people selectively choose what they wish to hear and observe, and just
because the Pope has articulated or conveyed something that people agree with, does not brand him a
conservative or a liberal. Americans today tend to believe that the papacy s standpoint is connected
with the Republican Party. With the election of Pope Francis this view point has begun to change, and
has multitudes of people questioning whether the Catholic Church is aligned with a political party, and
if so which one? Although a radical pope may seem trivial, it is in fact crucial in terms of today s
concerns over political leaders own morals. Whether government officials view the pope as a political
figure and leader this issue is important to the politicians who adopt the Pope s ideals to support their
own claims. Ultimately, this country and others are governed by men and women each of whom has a
religious stance. As a result, it is almost impossible for governing figure heads to rule without the
ideals and morals guided by their culture s theology. However, the question put forth How Radical is
Pope Francis? requires further examination. In the United States, there is a separation of church and
state, but is Pope Francis aligned with a political party or do Liberals and Conservatives alike align

Ww1 Week 1 Newspaper Analysis

identified the editorial line of a newspaper and looked at how the editorial is a letter written by the

were used as primary sources. We discovered as they are written by readers discussing issues, they
help provide a useful insight on people s concerns. We debated the benefits of newspapers such as that
they give us a snapshot of peoples perceptions at the time. Limitation of using newspapers are that
they are biased and generally contain propaganda.

The questions addressed were to identify the editorials in each newspaper and outline their stances
towards the conflict. The Times newspaper s editorial argued that there remained little stock of food
however the food prices were still low. They were not overly concerned since if the shipments with
America and Australia could be maintained therefore England would not be too low on food, and
canned food could be a reserve. They commented on how coal prices were on the rise as a result of the
war. The Manchester Guardian s editorial stated they were shocked by the war and people were
worried since there was no treaty obligation to become involved in European wars. The editorials gave
a clear image certain domestic views; however the issues raised are of people s concerns, not the
wider picture, this could lead to it not being reliable because it is biased and excluded certain points.
Editorials show the opinion of the editor and it presents a snapshot of public moral. We could use
editorials as a way of case studying public response building up to the war. The letters to the editor in
the Times show that they feel that England s problems would be Ireland s opportunity and that people
are protesting regarding the war. The methodology we used was qualitative as we looked at people s
ideas towards the First World War. We used comparative methodology as we compared two
newspapers and the people s views in each newspaper. We found that the strengths of newspapers
were that it provides an insight to opinions at the time; they are often clearly written and may indicate
the political position of the author. However, the limitations are that it may not be balanced and
occasionally newspapers contain propaganda to force people to believe certain

The History Of Politics In Texas
With every state comes a specific and distinctive history of politics, and, more often than not, a brief
understanding of the cultural changes that occurred throughout the years. Texas has one of the most
interesting shifts: an almost clean cut shift from a Democratic, or blue , state, to a Republican, or red ,
state, after nearly 100 years of Democratic dominance. This is comparable to the state of Virginia,
which also saw Republican representation after Democratic dominance for nearly 50 years. However,
where Texas remains mainly Republican today, Virginia is an accurate embodiment of a two party
state . With this being said, that doesn t mean Texas will stay this way. While the Lone Star state still
votes red and has Republican ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This campaign s goal was to unite white Virginian Democrats so they could work together to prevent
desegregation in public schools. Many schools, including an entire school system, were shut down
between 1958 1959 to prevent integration. Most of the laws catered to this massive resistance were
overturned by state and federal courts within in a year, but some of the anti integration ideology
continued to persist in Virginia for many years. Byrd ran for governor of Virginia in 1925, and thus the
Byrd Organization was born. Byrd serves as governor until 1930, and then was elected to the United
States Senate in 1933, where he served until his retirement in 1965. For nearly 40 years, Byrd
familiarized himself with the courthouse cliques , otherwise known as the state officers in each county.
With every relationship he created, a level of respect was given to Byrd, giving him unofficial power
over these officers. While these courthouse cliques still made recommendations for certain candidates
for statewide offices, Byrd only considered them after careful consultation . It became obvious that no
candidate in Virginia would succeed without his stamp of approval. Byrd remained in power by
greatly limiting the spread of power throughout the state; he amended the state constitution to reduce
the number of statewide elected officials to just three, including the governor, the lieutenant governor,
and attorney general, and also rescheduled the

Using The Credit Line Tied Down T Bill Rate
Answer 1.
I plan to use the credit line tied to the 3months T bill rate. In loanable funds market which borrowers
(my firm) demand funds and lenders supply them. The price in this market is interest rate.
Scenario a The growth rate of GDP in the U.S is expected to increase
Since there is an expectation on the U.S GDP to increase, this means the increasing labor force in the
market that indirectly increases the consumption and investments. May be the government s spending
potential is also increasing. These factors would create more demands in the loanable funds market.
So the demand and supply in the loanable funds market determines the interest rates. The following

Real interest rate = Nominal Interest Rate Inflationary premium
Exhibit 1b illustrates how inflation influences nominal interest rates. We consider a 3% market interest
rate as a stable price. Assume the expected rate of inflation is zero, there will be no inflationary
premium; under these conditions the nominal interest rate is equal to the real interest rate. Now there
is an expectation of inflation goes higher, forecasted 2% inflation, so the real interest rate now
becomes to 1% (based on the real interest rate formula). This case I am better off my firm s future
financing cost if I use the credit line.
Usually it is not going to work that way. When lenders expect inflation, they will be pushing the
interest rate upward by the expected inflation. This case the nominal interest rate is going to be 5%
and the real interest rate would become 3%. Lenders may not always forecast the future rate of
inflation accurately. If the inflation is higher than was expected then my firm will gain. On the other
hand if the inflation rate is less than anticipated then lenders will gain. Therefore, no reason why the
inflation will help either my firm or lenders.

Management Practices And Functions Of Management
Management Practices
Management has played a crucial role in how organizations have operated for over a century. It has
been the foundation of organizations in the structuring of their companies and has determined their
level of success. Without management, organizations would struggle with defining a purpose for
themselves. They would lack in goals to achieve and overall improvement. Since the implementation
of management, theories of management have come and gone. New ideas have emerged and thoughts
have shifted as the world continues to grow and change. However, the concept of management and its
key elements have remained the same. These elements consist of what is known as the five functions

In 1959, Ali went on to win Amateur Athletic Union National Title of the Heavyweight Division as

The Theory Of Classical Liberalism
Classical Liberalism is an idea of Liberals limiting the power of the state and maximizing the rights of
the individual against arbitrary rule as stated in the Classical Liberalism powerpoint.
Some classical liberals included Jean Jacques Rousseau, John Locke, Adam Smith, and Baron de
Montesquieu. These men fought for free markets inside and between countries as well as a limitation
on the all powerful state. The argument for a powerful government was that it would maintain peace
and security. Their tenets, or philosophies, consist of 8 basic principles. The first principle of classical
liberalism is individual liberty. Individual liberty relates to limiting or restrain all institutions that
endanger our liberties such as government and church. These social institutions enforce rules and
restrictions that act as negative freedom as stated in the powerpoint. The second principle relates to
human nature. It states that man is born ignorant but not wicked Stating basically that man is
influenced negatively by his surrounds such as government which stated by Thomas Paine is a
necessary evil . By combining the third and fourth principle you have reason and progress. By using
reasoning to solve problems instead of demanding obedience you are more likely to achieve progress.
Progress is defined as expansion of knowledge, improvement of conditions, and the overall
advancement of mankind. Principles five and six are equality and universalism which are also related.

Comparing The National Council Of Teachers Of Mathematics...
This paper serves to compare the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards for
Secondary Mathematics (NCTM), Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and Virginia s Standards of
Learning (VSOL). The comparison will include similarities and differences among the three
documents as well as discuss their strengths and weaknesses. Lastly, a combined set of standards will
be developed and presented, encompassing the strengths of the various standards. The first similarity
between the three documents would be the structure of the standards. Each document varies in the
number of standards, but all are separated through domains of mathematical learning. For example,
out of the fourteen NCTM Curriculum Standards for Secondary Mathematics, five standards detail the
process of learning mathematics. These standards include Mathematics as Problem Solving,
Mathematics as Communication, Mathematics as Reasoning, Mathematical Connections, and
Mathematical Structures. Similarly, Common Core State Standards provide the state of Alabama with
Mathematical Practice Standards which parallel with similar methods of learning mathematics. Within
the Virginia Standards of Learning are embedded similar languages describing mathematical learning.
There are several parallel thoughts concerning the mathematical learning process. NCTM Standard 1:

Essay on Evolution of Dogs
The grey wolf has been transformed into what we, today, call a dog. After years of traveling with
humans, the wolf began to change and became adapted and tame enough to socialize with humans.
The environment it was placed into was one of the causes for change, and another was the role it
played for humans. The most likely scenario for wolves beginning to coexist with humans is that a
human hunting party came across a very young wolf cub and decided to take it with them. The wolf
cub would have been very puppy like at an early age. The reason that humans would ever take a wolf
cub is because the cub would be seen as a valuable resource to humans back then. The wolf cub would
become a sort of tool for humans since it is a better tracker, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Back then, the wolf like dogs would have been used for hunting thanks to their amazing hearing and
excellent smell. These traits would help the hunters tremendously. The hunters also used them as
guard dogs for their livestock. Also, if the hunters were ever attacked by an enemy, the wolf like dogs
would have come in very handy as another warrior on the battle field since wolves are faster and
stronger than humans. Having a loyal animal is useful in many ways when the world used to be wild
and untamed. Plus, the lack of technology in the past would make it seem that a tamed animal would
equal that of a machine. After years of selective breeding and taming, the hunters finally came across
some wolves that were able to listen to commands and do what they were ordered to do. These wolves
did not look like the first ones with which humans came into contact. Their size, coloring, senses and
even the length of their coat or swimming ability reflected the environment in which they lived. These
environments could have ranged from anything since hunters do not stay in one place for very long.
These wolves probably did not reflect their gray ancestors much anymore. The color of their coat
could have become brown, black, or even yellow depending on where they were taken. Their size
could have been affected, too, depending on how the hunters had used them they could have shrunken

The most obvious difference compared to the original is the shift from purely 2D sprites to more

I agree with you that genre films do reflect reality. If the films do not have any emotional connections
with the audiences, it could be difficult to understand specific characters or situations in the movies. I

their high school life. Every time I watch some exaggerated situations, such as playing the music and
dancing in the middle of the hallway at school as you mentioned, I feel like it will not happen in
reality but how the student are doing in movies is funny. I also think that the reason why many people
like watching high school movies is because they might feel great empathy for various situations in

Imagery Of Joseph Wiesel s Night
Imagery of Dehumanization in Night
Hate begins to grow, and in the case of the Holocaust, this incessant hatred led to the identification of
all Jews, the deportation of millions of people from their homes, the concentration in the camps, and
extermination of entire families and communities at once. For nearly a decade, Jews, prisoners of war,
homosexuals, and the disabled were rounded up, sent off to camps, and systematically slaughtered in
unimaginably inhumane ways. Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, shares his experiences at Auschwitz
in the book Night, which reveals the true extent of inhumanity in both the Nazis and the Jews. In Elie
Wiesel s Night, Wiesel uses imagery of his experiences before and while being in the concentration
camp in order to develop his theme of dehumanization of both the Jews and the Nazis during the
Holocaust. The first instance of dehumanization of the Jews appears in the very beginning of the book,
where Elie remembers the evenings he spent studying the cabbala with Moche the Beadle, who, was
as awkward as a clown. He made people smile, with his waiflike timidity. I loved his great, dreaming
eyes, their gaze lost in the distance (Wiesel 13). However, a day comes where Moche, a foreign Jew of
Sighet, has to be expelled from the country. The Jews of Sighet, kept in the dark about the true
intentions of the Nazis, are left to ponder the whereabouts of the expelled foreigners and quickly

Student Spaceflight Experiments
The Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) is a program in which groups of three to five
students work together to figure out an experiment that they would like tested in space. The winning
group s experiment will be tested in space to see if their experiment will actually work and to benefit
future astronauts. I was fortunate enough to participate in this program, which has taught me many
lessons and has given me information that will be extremely valuable in my future years as a student.
It has taught me what the ISS is and why testing experiments in space is important. In addition, the
project taught me how to work better in groups, and it helped me become a more responsible person. I
think the SSEP project was an extremely worthwhile experience, and I m very thankful I was able to
be a part of it this year. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I learned that the ISS stands for the International Space Station and that it is a large spacecraft in orbit
around Earth. It is also a home for astronauts to live in while in space, and it also serves as a science
laboratory. Furthermore, the SSEP project has also taught me that sending new experiments up to the
ISS is important. This is because scientists and astronauts are always looking for different alternative
methods to perform tasks in space. For example, astronauts might want different varieties of foods to
eat in space, so they could send a new seed up to space to see if it grows. If the seed grows, astronauts
will then have new foods to eat while in space that could possibly have great health benefits like
vitamins, protein,

How The Sand Felt So Warm Against My Skin Essay
The sand felt so warm against my skin, as Robert and I basked in the sunlight. This was our ritual
every Sunday afternoon. We both loved the beach, and this was a moment for us to relax, as well as
have some alone time. Our lives are very stressful. I m a corporate attorney, and Robert s a singer
songwriter, signed with RCA records. When Robert s not touring or in the studio, and I m not dealing
with contracts or legal documents, we like to find time for one another. He and I have been married for
four years now. We met while we were in college. We both attended the great University of Southern
California. He was studying music and I was studying law. It s weird that we met, now that I think
about it,... but we just clicked. Robert s smile still melts my heart to this day. We both want to have
kids some day, but just have to fit it into our busy schedules, which is harder than it sounds. When the
sun began to set, Robert looked over at me and said, Are you ready? Every Sunday when the sun
began to set, Robert and I would swim to the drop off in the Pacific. Once we reached the drop off, we
raced back to the shore. The last one to make it to the beach cooked dinner that night. Robert usually
won, which is a good thing, since he can t cook anything. But tonight I didn t feel like cooking, and if
all else fails, he could just order a pizza. As we neared the drop off, I saw a change in Robert s swim
stroke. It looked as though he was trying to move, but his body wasn t

The Enlightenment Period
Americans in the Enlightenment period strongly connected themselves with the classical age in terms
of how they approached their art. The Enlightenment period lasted for about 150 years, from
approximately 1700 1850. Throughout this time period many artists took inspiration from the classical
age which occurred in ancient Greece and Rome hundreds of years before. We can see examples of
this in buildings like The White house and Monticello in America, and Kedleston Hall in England.
These three buildings, though located in very different parts of the world, all have a number of
aestheticly similar attributes.
The Enlightenment age was very much an intellectual movement that grew from interrelating the
theories of science, the environment and the human race (Enlightenment, 2015, para 1). The origins of
this movement came from ideas that date back to the Renaissance period in the 14th century. Science
became a big part of this period as people now did not just rely on the bible, they began to be
inquisitive about the world around them, thus the dividing of science and religion occurred. Scientists
began to ask questions about the environment around them, soon people wanted proof and reasoning,
not just thoughts and ideas. Another successful idea of that time was that philosophers began to
rethink the role of God and the effects on human life. People still believed in God, but the significance
of religion and the role that God played in peoples daily life was not as

Character Aspects Of Physical Appearance
Character Over Physical Appearance. One time, there was a 26 years old women who had just finished
her bachelor s degree. She is five feet six inches tall, and when she graduated, she weighed about 145
pounds. She has an athletic build, which is great, healthy weight at which she was pleased. She was so
glad of herself and enthusiastic about starting her very first career. Her first appointment was at a
small employment agency. After done filling out the paperwork, she was interviewed by a woman who
had to leave the interview room briefly. Of course, she, then, lean over to see what the women had
written in large letters at the top of her application form. Surprisingly, there was her first impression:
BIG GIRL. At that time, she was shocked. She learned that her physical appearance would be a thing
that prospective employers would need to know. It was kind of harsh is not it? People judges the book
by its cover, while the truth is people come in all sizes and everyone should and deserves to be judged
based on their character, not by physical appearance. In Jennifer A. Coleman s Discrimination at
Large, Coleman displays perseverance and the ability to overcome obstacles presented to her being
overweight. Coleman starts by explains that she understands that people with fat appearance is
unexamined bigotry (176). She wanted to have a good body shape like most people does. Therefore,
she is proving that she is able to become fit by swimming, cycling, jogging, and ate low

International law generally prohibits intervention affairs of other countries, which in this context

Life Saver Commercial
This advertisement appears to be a candy advertisement. This advertisement is colored however the
colors are not that vivid compare to the advertisement in todays world. Therefore, one can only
assume that this advertisement was most likely in the late eighties or nineties. This advertisement
seems to be abstract since the proportion of the candy is not very realistic. Candy advertisement today
are more realistic since the proportion is shown in actual scale of the candy. This does present both a
person or a place, however, more of an object that it utilized by human beings. This image is more of a
sales advertisement to increase this candy brand. The intended audience for this are the whole entire
population because who doesn t want to freshen up their breath. The candy brand name is Life Saver
which probably mean it will save individuals from having a bad breath in a formal situation. It also
targets the people who are conscious about their weight since each candy is only ten calories. This
advertisement is very informal and funny since it uses slang words such as lotta. The person who
designed this advertisement has a good sense of humor since he utilizes a pun in the ad which is hole

It s important for an innovation system that knowledge can diffuse from one company to another,
especially in a heterogeneous context. It can be measured by number of workshops, conferences and
mapping size of the network.
Guidance of the search
Due to limited resources, companies have to choose what they want to develop and investigate. The
things they choose are the things of which they think it can positively change their processes. This
function can be measured by mapping the specific targets of firms, companies and governments.
Market formation
It s almost impossible for new technologies to compete directly from the beginning with incumbent
technologies. Therefore these new technologies need niche markets or (governmental) subsidies to
exist. This function can be measured by the number of niche markets and the number of subsidies.
Resource mobilization
There are financial and human inputs necessary to make the other functions working properly. It is
hard to measure this function, the best way is to interview different actors and institutions.
Creation of legitimacy/counteract resistance to change
Often when there is a new technologie an old one has to be overthrown. This can be measured by
mapping the growth and lobby actions of investment groups.
According to Porter there are 4 determinants to indicate whether there is competitive advantage in an
innovation system. The 4 determinants are:

Planet Of The Apes Film Analysis
Beginning a theme of taking older films and recreating them in his own style, Planet of the Apes was
based off Pierre Boulle s 1963 novel and a 1968 film version. The premise was about an American
man that landed on a planet ruled by apes, which was released in 2001. Although the film has a rather
shaky reputation, it forever changed Burton s life. While filming, actress Helena Bonham Carter, who
was playing one of the lead characters, caught Tim s eye. The two would later start a professional
relationship, with her starring in many of his films like Depp, as well as a personal relationship.
Although they never married, they lived like had and they have two children together; Billy Raymond
and Nell. However, the pair split in 2014, but are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally, I believe the reason is the same as to why so many people love him and his films. He s
different, and in a very good, yet odd way. Nobody has really seen anything like what he has
envisioned and brought to the table. Not only is he extremely unique, but he is also very relatable to
anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or that they were weird or even rejected by the world. In this
way, his audience can really connect with his films, even though they are out of this world
imaginative. Honestly, Burton is my all time favorite director, and for the same reasons as anyone else,
I can identify with his art. One person s craziness is another person s reality he has said. Not all of his
work is mind blowing or even amazing, but you can t deny that when you watch one of his films you
feel just a little bit transported to another world. He has transformed modern cinema with his
Burtonesque style and has also inspired many other directors, actors, artists, films, and shows. He s
also given actors dozens of opportunities to start up and expand their careers. Maybe his films aren t
everybody s cup of tea , but there s just no denying his glittering talent. It is inspiring to see someone
come from such a rough beginning to come out on top, giving hope to many. Tim Burton has truly left
his stamp on the world of film, as I believe to be one of history s best directors, and changed the world
of cinema and art

The Meaning Of Being Chinese And Chinese Immigrants
Immigration brings uncertainty, tensions between the past and present, and alterations in identity due
to acculturation as shown through Leon and other characters in Bone. In the psychological study, The
Meaning of Being Chinese and Being American : Variation among Chinese American Young Adults,
the correlation between the Chinese immigrating to the United States abridging Chinese and American
cultures varied based on their age of immigration and the duration of their time in the United States,
demonstrating that immigration provides a multifaceted experience for each individual. Chinese
immigrants who immigrated over the age of twelve, like Mah and Leon, present an anchored identity
as Chinese, but have to adapt through consciously engaging in American culture to survive. Leon
distances himself from his frustrations of living in America by going out to sea, evading Chinatown a
reminder of Ona s death , and by distracting himself in project inventions without any intentions of
completing them. Then, Mah immerses herself in work and relationships, including her affair with
Tommie Ham and her over involvement in her daughters lives. Chinese immigrants who immigrated
under the age of twelve, like Leila, are placed in the position of mediating between Chinese and
American cultures; they experience less certainty on which culture to identify with and often have to
consciously act to become a part of either. In her conversation with Nina, Leila reflects on how Nina s

  • 2. The Ones Who Walk Away By Ursula Le Guin The Ones Who Walk Away is a short story by Ursula Le Guin. Le Guin bases this story off of an idea posed by philosopher William James, which is how hideous would it be if people were willing to accept the torment of one person for the sake of a perfect society. Le Guin paints this reality in a Utilitarian city named Omelas in order to show the flaws within the Utilitarian belief system. In Omelas people are able to indulge themselves in their wildest fantasies without any negative effects. The people are portrayed as being happy, passionate, mature, and intelligent. Their happiness is based solely on a just discrimination of what is necessary (231). Le Guin states that in Omelas there are no clergy, but there can be religion. This leads to the people having no guilt because they are able to indulge in their fleshly desires without anyone to inform them that it is wrong. What Le Guin is portraying here is a nominal religion where one can claim to believe yet refuses to act out their faith. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These economies will occur because of more intensive utilization of production facilities, distribution network, research and development facilities, etc. these economies will be available in horizontal mergers were scope of more intensive use of resources is greater. 2. The profits of the company with short gestation period will be utilized to finance the other company. When the company with the longer gestation period starts eating profits then it will improve financial position as a whole. 10. Economic necessity: It may force the merger of some units. If there are two sick units, government may force their merger to improve their financial position and over all working .a sick unit may be required to merge with the healthy unit to insure better utilization of resources, improve and better management. Rehabilitation of sick units is asocial necessity because their closure may result in UN employment etc. 11. This unspoken bond between father and son leads to many other aspects of the relationship. Scenario a The growth rate of GDP in the U.S is expected to increase Since there is an expectation on the U.S GDP to increase, this means the increasing labor force in the market that indirectly increases the consumption and investments. May be the government s spending potential is also increasing. These factors would create more demands in the loanable funds market. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Real interest rate = Nominal Interest Rate Inflationary premium Exhibit 1b illustrates how inflation influences nominal interest rates. We consider a 3% market interest rate as a stable price. Assume the expected rate of inflation is zero, there will be no inflationary premium; under these conditions the nominal interest rate is equal to the real interest rate. Now there is an expectation of inflation goes higher, forecasted 2% inflation, so the real interest rate now becomes to 1% (based on the real interest rate formula). This case I am better off my firm s future financing cost if I use the credit line. Usually it is not going to work that way. When lenders expect inflation, they will be pushing the interest rate upward by the expected inflation. This case the nominal interest rate is going to be 5% and the real interest rate would become 3%. Lenders may not always forecast the future rate of inflation accurately. If the inflation is higher than was expected then my firm will gain. On the other hand if the inflation rate is less than anticipated then lenders will gain. These men fought for free markets inside and between countries as well as a limitation on the all powerful state. The argument for a powerful government was that it would maintain peace and security. Their tenets, or philosophies, consist of 8 basic principles. The first principle of classical liberalism is individual liberty. Individual liberty relates to limiting or restrain all institutions that endanger our liberties such as government and church. These social institutions enforce rules and restrictions that act as negative freedom as stated in the powerpoint. The second principle relates to human nature. It states that man is born ignorant but not wicked Stating basically that man is influenced negatively by his surrounds such as government which stated by Thomas Paine is a necessary evil . After years of traveling with humans, the wolf began to change and became adapted and tame enough to socialize with humans. The environment it was placed into was one of the causes for change, and another was the role it played for humans. The most likely scenario for wolves beginning to coexist with humans is that a human hunting party came across a very young wolf cub and decided to take it with them. The wolf cub would have been very puppy like at an early age. The reason that humans would ever take a wolf cub is because the cub would be seen as a valuable resource to humans back then. Having a loyal animal is useful in many ways when the world used to be wild and untamed. Plus, the lack of technology in the past would make it seem that a tamed animal would equal that of a machine. After years of selective breeding and taming, the hunters finally came across some wolves that were able to listen to commands and do what they were ordered to do. Imagery Of Joseph Wiesel s Night Imagery of Dehumanization in Night Hate begins to grow, and in the case of the Holocaust, this incessant hatred led to the identification of all Jews, the deportation of millions of people from their homes, the concentration in the camps, and extermination of entire families and communities at once. For nearly a decade, Jews, prisoners of war, homosexuals, and the disabled were rounded up, sent off to camps, and systematically slaughtered in unimaginably inhumane ways. Elie Wiesel, a Holocaust survivor, shares his experiences at Auschwitz in the book Night, which reveals the true extent of inhumanity in both the Nazis and the Jews. The Enlightenment period lasted for about 150 years, from approximately 1700 1850. Throughout this time period many artists took inspiration from the classical age which occurred in ancient Greece and Rome hundreds of years before. We can see examples of this in buildings like The White house and Monticello in America, and Kedleston Hall in England. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s important for an innovation system that knowledge can diffuse from one company to another, especially in a heterogeneous context. It can be measured by number of workshops, conferences and mapping size of the network. Guidance of the search Due to limited resources, companies have to choose what they want to develop and investigate. The things they choose are the things of which they think it can positively change their processes. This function can be measured by mapping the specific targets of firms, companies and governments. Market formation It s almost impossible for new technologies to compete directly from the beginning with incumbent technologies. Therefore these new technologies need niche markets or (governmental) subsidies to exist. This function can be measured by the number of niche markets and the number of subsidies. Resource mobilization There are financial and human inputs necessary to make the other functions working properly. Planet Of The Apes Film Analysis Beginning a theme of taking older films and recreating them in his own style, Planet of the Apes was based off Pierre Boulle s 1963 novel and a 1968 film version. The premise was about an American man that landed on a planet ruled by apes, which was released in 2001. Although the film has a rather shaky reputation, it forever changed Burton s life. While filming, actress Helena Bonham Carter, who was playing one of the lead characters, caught Tim s eye. The two would later start a professional relationship, with her starring in many of his films like Depp, as well as a personal relationship. Although they never married, they lived like had and they have two children together; Billy Raymond and Nell. However, the pair split in 2014, but are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, I believe the reason is the same as to why so many people love him and his films. He s different, and in a very good, yet odd way. Nobody has really seen anything like what he has envisioned and brought to the table. Not only is he extremely unique, but he is also very relatable to anyone who has ever felt like an outsider or that they were weird or even rejected by the world. In this way, his audience can really connect with his films, even though they are out of this world imaginative. Honestly, Burton is my all time favorite director, and for the same reasons as anyone else, I can identify with his art. One person s craziness is another person s reality he has said. Not all of his work is mind blowing or even amazing, but you can t deny that when you watch one of his films you feel just a little bit transported to another world. He has transformed modern cinema with his Burtonesque style and has also inspired many other directors, actors, artists, films, and shows. He s also given actors dozens of opportunities to start up and expand their careers. Maybe his films aren t everybody s cup of tea , but there s just no denying his glittering talent. It is inspiring to see someone come from such a rough beginning to come out on top, giving hope to many. Tim Burton has truly left his stamp on the world of film, as I believe to be one of history s best directors, and changed the world of cinema and art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Meaning Of Being Chinese And Chinese Immigrants Immigration brings uncertainty, tensions between the past and present, and alterations in identity due to acculturation as shown through Leon and other characters in Bone. In the psychological study, The Meaning of Being Chinese and Being American : Variation among Chinese American Young Adults, the correlation between the Chinese immigrating to the United States abridging Chinese and American cultures varied based on their age of immigration and the duration of their time in the United States, demonstrating that immigration provides a multifaceted experience for each individual. Chinese immigrants who immigrated over the age of twelve, like Mah and Leon, present an anchored identity as Chinese, but have to adapt through consciously engaging in American culture to survive. Leon distances himself from his frustrations of living in America by going out to sea, evading Chinatown a reminder of Ona s death , and by distracting himself in project inventions without any intentions of completing them. Then, Mah immerses herself in work and relationships, including her affair with Tommie Ham and her over involvement in her daughters lives. Chinese immigrants who immigrated under the age of twelve, like Leila, are placed in the position of mediating between Chinese and American cultures; they experience less certainty on which culture to identify with and often have to consciously act to become a part of either. In her conversation with Nina, Leila reflects on how Nina s tour ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
