The Chocolate War Summary
The setting of this novel, The Chocolate War, by Robert Cormier, is set in trinity. Trinity is a school
for the top tier students. Trinity is also known for doing what other schools can t. This story has a very
rebellious mood to it. The reasoning behind this is the rebellious behavior Jerry uses. The first
character is Jerry Renault. In this story Jerry plays the important role of protagonist. Mentally Jerry is
a coward, but only at the start of the story as he becomes faced with trials. Jerrys weight is five foot
nine inches and his weight is one hundred forty five pounds. What the hell you want to play football
for? You need more meat on those bones. (6).
The second character is Archie Costello. In this story Archie also play an important role as the main
antagonist. Archie is an average young male with blond hair. Archie is not certain he is human and
struggles with that. Don t you think i m human. (14). The third and final character is Brother Leon. In
the story Leon is an antagonist that hides in the shadows controlling archie. At the start Leon comes
off as someone who believes in the school. I know it s a lot of chocolates .(23). This shows the
disguise of tenderness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jerry is told to refuse the chocolates by the vigils as an assignment. Everyone finds out about the
assignment Jerry received. After Jerry s assignment is over jerry continues to refuse the chocolates.
The vigils consider Jerry s refusal to sell a defiance. The other students consider rebelling as well. The
school treasurer finds out about Leon embezzling from the school and needs to sell all the chocolates
to break even. Archie plans a raffle where you put how you want Janza to to hit Jerry or how you want
Jerry to hit Janza. Janza breaks the rules hitting Jerry in the head rendering him knocked

Research Paper On Strawberry Icing
The first thing is to gather all materials needed. Check your cupboard for a vanilla cake mix, to get the
best rise use Betty Crocker. However, an off brand will do the job just fine. The following items are a
list of material and ingredients you will need: an 8X10 cake pan, a large and a small bowl, a spoon, a
knife, a butter knife, measuring cups, a blender, eggs, vegetable oil, one pack of fresh strawberries,
strawberry glaze, and light pink icing. For the icing I suggest strawberry icing by Betty Crocker. After
gathering all ingredients place them one the counter. Now that all the ingredients are out, set the oven
for 350 degrees. Now take the 8X10 cake pan and put ½ teaspoon of vegetable oil in the pan. Make

Civil Unrest Of The United States
From its conception, the United States of America has been in a very unique position of being able to
develop in any fashion. Under another group of intelligent minds it could have been far different from
the democratic republic that we know it to be today. A key factor in the development of this
government was time. Although there would be some civil unrest in the years following the War of
Independence, the next major outbreak of violence would not occur until the French Revolution.
These circumstances alleviated pressure to establish a strict system of government, and gave the
opportunity for trial and error. In examining the early failures of legislation, understanding what was
wanted, and what concessions were needed, you can start to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For states like Maryland and New York, civic duties and powers were limited to the wealthy elite. In
contrast, states with a broader middle class, like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, favored a larger voting
population with less restrictive requirements to participate, and limited the power given to elected
officials. State constitutions laid the groundwork for the next stage of development, a federal
government. The Articles of Confederation were just as important as the Declaration of Independence
in helping to establish the legitimacy of separating from England and becoming a new nation, but the
document was not without its shortcomings. The biggest concern of the Continental Congress was
ensuring that any system created would be protected from potential despotism. The weak framework
of the Articles could be viewed as their focus on what they didn t want, instead of focusing on what
they really needed. This wasn t a document concerning one nation, it was a contract between thirteen
nations to ally against outside repression. For those with a strong sense of state pride, the problems
apparent throughout the Articles of Confederation could be ignored. The federal government wasn t
weak, they said. It was limited. It was designed to protect citizens from tyranny, and in that regard it
was very successful. As oppression was the biggest concern, it was repeatedly addressed in each issue.

Normal Definition Essay
Have you ever wondered what Normal really is? Like what you should and shouldn t consume, what
you should look like, stuff like that. Now, have you ever wondered if it s because of the society that
we live in, that Normal is determined by them?
Normal. What do you think when you hear the word normal? Do you visualise civilians walking
around your suburb or do you picture a group of friends having the best of times, laughing as they sit
down on a white chair outside a café?
What is normal? Well, I personally feel that normal is basically an idealistic portrayal that you see in
the media and want to follow so you could fit in. For example, you want to fit in with your classmates,

History Of Roman Number Symbols
The history of Roman Number Symbol are represented by letters. The Roman numerbs are
represented by seven different letters are I, V, X, L, and D. Therefore, these roman letters represent 1,
5, 10, 100, and 500. Ancient Roman use these seven letters to make a lot of different numbers and to
be written of the Roman alphabet. In the Etruscans was an ancient civilization of Italy developed their
own numeral system with different symbols. A common theory of the origin Roman numeral system
was represented by hand signal. For example, the Roman numeral system by hand signal was used
like one, two, three and four signaled by the equivalent amount of fingers that were used. Then, The
number five is represented by the thumb and fingers separated, making a V shape and The number ten
is represented by either crossing the thumbs or hands, signaling an X shape (Pollard). Therefore, the
numbers; six, seven, eight and nine are represented by one hand signaling a five and the other
representing the number 1 through to 4. The hand signal was used for counting by either crossing the
thumbs, fingers separated, and signaled, which helped to hand ... Show more content on

For instance, the tally sticks was used to either additive nor subtractive, whereas the numbers one,

Early and Present Leadership of the Democratic Republic of...
As the topic suggests, my paper will be based on the early and present Leadership of the Democratic
Republic of Congo. This paper will be based on the effect these regimes had on the social and
economic standard of Congo. That is the focus will be on a timeline basis; how things evolved from
the colonial era of Congo, to the post colonial era and to the status quo.
My reason for choosing these topic is, Congo can be considered as developing state or under
developed state depends on what your personal view of the criteria s that qualifies a state as a
developing state or an underdeveloped state; unlike its western counterpart: example the United
States, Great Britain and European states. Now the question is; could the under development of Congo
be as a result in the poor leadership Congo have had in time past? Is Congo in the right part to
archiving infrastructural development and increasing the social economic status? Can the present
leaders do anything different to expedite development? Or are they moving at a good pace? These and
more are questions that arises from a topic like this.
By the end of this research paper, all the questions asked in the previous paragraphs will be answered,
and also I will include some of my personal taught on what political modules Congo should adopt in
order to foster its economy and social standard.
This paper would not be complete without briefly looking at the history of Congo. Why is this
important? A brief history will be the map to

Other possible strategies are: * Use language to describe things. * Assist people to describe things. *
Explain details that sighted people might take for granted. * Check glasses. Other aids and equipment.
Another example, people with hearing disability may use hearing aids. They are battery powered
electronic devices with small microphones to pick up and increase the volume of sound received by a
person. Also, text phones, relay systems and minicoms may be used for people who are deaf or hard of
hearing.
Other possible strategies are: * Don t shout. Use normal clear speech and make sure your fase is
visible for people who can lip read. * Show pictures or write messages. * Learn to sign (for people
who used sign language). * Ask for help from, or employ, a communicator or interpreter for sign
languages. * Check that hearing aids and equipment are working.
For people with physical and intellectual disabilities may be used strategies, such as: * Increase your

Freedom Of Speech And The Right Of Bear Arms
After 9/11, Netanyahu argued against regarding basic liberties such free speech and the right to bear
arms as absolutes. In modern western society, we have rights, such as freedom of speech, and in some
countries, the right to bear arms. In response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Netanyahu argues that these
rights are not universal to everybody. We need to set limits as to how far these rights can take us and
suspend these rights for some people, because not everybody deserves to be granted these rights. At
times when we are under threat from terrorism, we need to reduce freedom of speech and the second
amendment in order to protect ourselves. There are also people who do not deserve these rights at all,
because they will use them in order to further the terrorists agenda. Freedom of speech will encourage
people to convince others that terrorist acts are acceptable, and will further convince people to join
terrorist organizations and participate in terrorist acts. Furthermore, Netanyahu believes that terrorism
is something that should not be taken lightly. We must do everything in our power to prevent and fight
terrorism, and reducing the levels of rights that we have is one of the measures that we have to take. It
is not only what we should do in the country that we live in. Netanyahu believes that we should take a
hardline approach to terrorism. It is important for us to go into other countries and fight terrorists
through whatever methods are necessary,

The Effects Of Social Media On Teenagers
The Social Media Effect
When you were a teenager, did social media impact your life? If not, it certainly has had an impact on
the teenagers of America today. Social media has been around for a long time. There are many
applications for social media, some of which are Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook. With the rapid
evolution of social media, people believe that social media is impacting teenagers in a negative way.
However, some believe that there are positive effects. The negative effects of social media on
teenagers include poor student performance, lack of sleep, and increased vulnerability. However,
before any of these arguments can be talked about, it is important that people know the history of
social media. The development of social media started in the 1950 s with commercial computers. This
led to the creation of personal computers, which paved the way for the development of e mail. One of
the key developments of social media is the cell phone. They evolved into Iphones, which include
many features such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. These allow people to communicate
anywhere at any time. The first recognizable social network using the same definition as today s
Facebook and MySpace sites was SixDegrees.com, launched in 1997. (Amidon Lusted). From this
website, MySpace evolved. Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson created MySpace. They wanted this
site to have fewer rules, and they wanted people to communicate and share music. MySpace led to the

Quality Approach And Quality Management
Quality approach and quality management
Poor management regarding the quality of the product has been evident by the 64 roll $100, 000 error.
If Portland branch is to remain operational, extensive retraining of management and employees
regarding business expectations, quality and process management in order for the plant s poor quality
approach on its product continue to affect and will likely result of loss of reputation by REXAM

the Portland plant management. Poorly maintained equipment and uninformed staff along with poor

Proper recording of maintenance of equipment should also be observed religiously and periodically,

People may believe that the Bunker Hill Monument is a simple representation of an American pastime
that occurred during the Revolutionary War, but there is much more to it than some may believe. The
actions that took place on June 17, 1775 became a very crucial, and telling role to how the success of
the American forces would come during the Revolutionary War. Information discovered of the British
Army planning to take area surrounding Boston on gave way to an intricate plan by the colonial forces
to secure the top of Breed s Hill overnight. Poorly equipped, but with their heads held high, the
colonial troops took over the top of Breed s Hill to take a vantage point against the British. William
Prescott leading the fortification of the hill, guided the colonial troops to prepare for their
confrontation with William Howe and the British Army. The heart and pride of the American forces at

Hypocrisy and Christianity Essay
Hypocrisy and Christianity
If one were to ask the American public about their views of Christians, what response would one
receive? We can imagine that there would be a great variety of answers. However, most people might
say that, in general, Christians are not very different from everybody else. This is a problem. There are
many people who claim to be Christians whose lifestyles do not reflect their beliefs. The problem with
this situation is that it gives non Christians the wrong impression of Christianity. Christians need to
live their lives in a way that reflects what they claim to believe.
Christianity is a lifestyle not just a set of beliefs. A Christian is not merely someone who attends
church once in a while and believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People are ready to sue the minute someone does something to them that they feel was uncalled for.
We can see through this that people still have a desire for truth and justice. They want to hear and see
good things. People think of Christians as good people. They expect someone who claims to be a
Christian to be a kind, moral, overall good person. It is extremely disheartening if those who claim to
have the guide to moral living are just as dishonest and coldhearted as anyone else. It discredits
Christianity s claim of having a better way. For example, let s say that it is discovered that a person
who has always attended church and openly claimed Christianity has been embezzling funds from
their company. Many people would be even more angry that he was hiding behind the front of being a
good, honest Christian than if someone who had not laid claim to those values was discovered in the
same crime. If people cannot trust Christians who claim to be moral, whom can they trust? Is there
anything that deems a person or group of people trustworthy? Hypocrisy among Christians can cause
these kinds of ideas to grow.
Christians are commanded in the Bible to take the gospel into all the world. God desires that all people
know Him. However, since He is in heaven and not on the earth now, it is up to His people to show
others the way to Him. Much of that testimony for Christ is through the way Christians lives are lived.

Corporate Social Responsibility of Levi Strauss
It is the nature of business to expand its business and increase sales. What is ethical? In my opinion
ethics are defined by what is right. Some ethics are defined by law but many must come from within
the person or business. One must realize that sometimes what might be considered unethical by law or
ethical by law might need to be revisited and thought about if the law or lack of it produces unethical
outcomes.
In doing business so many times an organization must think globally. This might be done to increase
sales and/or profits or to lower labor costs. In either case problems can occur due to ethical and
cultural barriers in global expansion. In this paper I will attempt to show some of what a global
organization and a cultural issue that affects their interactions outside the United States by identifying
and comparing some of these cultural differences.
One company that faces these cultural issues daily is Levi Strauss and Company. Levi Strauss and
Company is a large American company founder in 1853 and is well known for its denim line.
Currently Levi Strauss and Co. has operations in over 110 countries with over half of its corporate
revenues coming from outside the United States. In American history we have all heard complaints of
companies in the garment industry hiring underage employees outside the United States and poor
working conditions. Levi Strauss and Company has not been left out of these accusations.

Any such modeling in whole or part requires caution and humility, and the results are specific to the
model and its assumptions. They should not be endowed with a precision and certainty that is simply
impossible to achieve. The chief uncertainties with the impacts of climate change are ignorance of
time factor, technological advances, economics, policy, planning and society. These include the
difficulties of estimating the costs of technologies several decades into the future, as well as the way in
which fossil fuel prices evolve in the future. It is also hard to know how people will respond to price
changes.
Majority of current data uses time factors of different definitions that make such data hard to relate
from a reference line. For example is it possible to define the pre industrial era levels for health and
longevity of human life compared to current with respect to air pollution levels. Most data uses
probabilistic models to speculate for the variation in time. However, such models involve many
assumptions that inherently have uncertainties.
Technological advancements are hard to predict. The potential for, and costs of, technologies and
measures to cut emissions across different sectors is studied to weigh the impacts. Consider the case
nuclear fusion which is being researched extensively since past 30 years or so but is still elusive at

Better Business Bureau System Analysis
The systems that have been put in place by the Better Business Bureau to protect businesses and
consumers are continually being updated as it should with any organization. The Better Business
Bureau has implemented change as it relates to the point system of accreditation (Ferrell, Fraedrich

uniform fashion. It is important for organizations to remain unbiased if their mission is service the
public. Being fair and unbiased will always hold creditability versus not being fair and biased.
Another change the Better Business Bureau has implemented is the way consumer complaints are

Societal Values vs. Moral Instincts Essay
On his many adventures, Huckleberry Finn encounters numerous situations in which his morality is
tested or needs to be implemented. Huck has moral dilemmas to a degree, but he figures out the
answer to his questions. He also figures out that sometimes, society has it all wrong, and that at times
you just have to follow your heart. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Twain
reveals that what is honorable is to follow your natural moral instincts, not what society and
civilization say is moral. From the beginning of the book, it is shown that Huck is forced to conform
to what others think is best for him. Huckleberry was taken in by Widow Douglas because his dad

Society starts to become a place in which Huckleberry wants to spend less and less time interacting
with as he realizes the problems people create in the world. As Huck and Jim float farther down the
river, Huck s opinion of society becomes more defined in his own mind:
I hadn t had a bite to eat since yesterday, so Jim he got out some corn dodgers and buttermilk, and
pork and cabbage and greens there ain t nothing in the world so good when it s cooked right and
whilst I eat my supper we talked and had a good time. . . .We said there warn t no home like a raft,
after all. Other places do seem so cramped up and smothery, but a raft don t. You feel mighty free and
easy and comfortable on a raft. (119)
At this point in the book Huck is thoroughly sickened by society. Compared to the incidents onshore,
the raft represents a retreat from the outside world. Even the simple food Jim offers Huck is delicious
in this atmosphere of freedom. Huck and Jim do not have to answer to anyone on the raft, and it
represents a kind of utopian life for them. They try to maintain this peaceful separation from society

Fences By August Wilson Quotes
In the two act play Fences written by August Wilson, Wilson begins the play with the main character,
Troy Maxson as he is having a conversation with one of his good friends Bono. The two discuss the
issues they are having at their job; both men work at a trash company and would like to be able to
drive the trucks how their white coworkers are able to instead of being on the back of the truck doing
the lifting: Why? Why you got the white mens driving and the colored lifting? (Wilson 1968). This
quote shows that Troy feels that he and his black coworkers should have the option to drive the trash
trucks instead of lifting them. Troy believes it is his supervisor s duty to make it so that he and his
other coworkers, who lift, are able to drive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the everyday pressures of the duties he has brought among himself. Because of Troy s irresponsible

Paradise Lost Vs Beowulf
In all epics, there exists a hero that possesses specific traits and core values to follow the culture of a
time period. Most works show hero figures looking up to some type of higher authority figure for
guidance. Both Beowulf and Paradise Lost reference Christianity and the idea of depending on God,
however, the basis of heroism is fundamentally different in each story. Beowulf is an Anglo Saxon
epic whereas Paradise Lost is a completely Christian epic poem. Both works differ in their
interpretations of morals and conflict resolution. Beowulf upholds all of the traits required of
traditional epic heroes: wisdom, strength, courage, honor, honesty, and strong leadership. He
illustrates his courage and willingness to fight by traveling to the

Annotated Bibliography Of Borderlands
Julia Glandt October 24, 2017 Borderlands FYS Annotated Bibliography They had no life; they were
not allowed to have a life. They were isolated from not only the white race but also their own people.
Mr. Michael Reed was one of those slave owners that treated his slaves that they were nothing more
than a piece of property. In his files, Mr. Reed had a ledger of daily activities. This ledger contained
hourly and daily record of everything his slaves would do. In some of his recordings, Mr. Reed would
write down very strange things for what activity his slaves were doing. He would make mention when
they were sick, of course so he could know how many hours they worked; but many of his recording
were not appropriate for him to be writing. He acted almost as if a lion stalking its prey before it killed
them, minus the killing. If his slaves went to the restroom, he would repeatedly write that or the word
nothing if he felt that they were not contributing to work on the plantations. By Reed doing this to his
slaves, he isolated them to not allow for them to have any outside contact. He silenced his slaves from
feeling like humans. Being trapped in this isolation dehumanized the slaves by treating them as more
of a research project/business rather than actual people, even though they were never thought of as
people at the time. The treatment these individuals reported ran the gamut from the most harsh,
impersonal, and exploitative to work and living conditions and environments

A Bronx Tale Film Essay
Catrina Chandler

Professor Cogswell
Film Essay A Bronx Tale A Bronx Tale is a film about directed by Robert Di Nero about a boy named
Calogero an Italian American male, and his life as he grows up in a town occupied by the mob in the
1960 s. Calogero has two strong influences in his life. They are his father Lorenzo a proud middle
class bus driver and a mob boss named Sonny. In the film there are three scenes that especially
demonstrate the influence Sonny and Lorenzo have on Calogero. An example of Lorenzo s influence
on his son takes place in front of their apartment building in which Calogero witnesses ... Show more

It does not tell some story about how the bus driver and the mobster have to shoot each other or how
Calogero is a hostage in a tug of war. It is about two men from the same neighborhood but different
experiences in life, who love Calogero and want to do right by him. Calogero loves his father, and
loves Sonny like a father but struggles with the advice given to him by both throughout the film.
Almost like an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. A Bronx Tale is a very funny movie at
times and very touching at others. It is filled with life, colorful characters and great lines of dialogue.
Robert Di Nero in his debut as a director, finds the right notes as he moves from laughter to anger to
tears. What is important about the film is that it is about values and influence. About how some boys
grow up into men who can look at themselves in the mirror in the morning, and others just go along
with the crowd, forgetting after a while that they ever had a

Macbeth and Banquo had been riding all night on their way home from battle when suddenly three

Essay about The Unique Similarities Between Taste and Sight
Of the five senses that humans employ in everyday life, taste and sight are two of the more interesting
senses. They are continually developed throughout our entire lives and we are exposed to new sights
and tastes everyday. Many people think that our senses are all unique and independent of each other,
but taste and sight are surprising similar in many aspects, such as their development. Not only are taste
and sight developed similarly, but they are also affected by familiarity, socialization, and memory.
Although many people in the world believe that all our senses are different in function and
development, taste and sight have a unique connection between the two senses that makes them very
similar.

Their taste in food is clearly based on socialization, creating a diet that would maximize their
performance at the job they performed on a day to day basis. Sight also has a large association with
familiarity. Many of the everyday things that humans see in the world do not surprise them at all, as
they have seen those things throughout their whole lives. Some images and objects, however, invoke
many emotions from a person, such as anger or fear. Humans, therefore, try to see only things that
they are familiar with. Most humans do not want to see images of war, poverty, death or destruction,
and they, therefore, try to steer clear of such images. As Thomas Gray once said, ignorance is bliss,
which allows humans to block out disturbing images in order to make them feel happier and more
secure about their lives with the images they are familiar with. Socialization also plays a large part of
our sense of sight as humans. During infancy is when the majority of our learning takes place and our
sense of sight is no exception. Babies learn from the area and culture that they are born into, which
affects their visual perception of the world. People born into the culture of third world countries
become more accustomed to seeing things like poverty and war, while many people in first world
countries would be unfamiliar with those images. Being familiar with a

Walt Disney Captain Of Industry Essay
Mickey Mouse may be an iconic figure. However, history has shown that Walt Disney may have
actually been a rat. Building his empire of The Wonderful World of Disney does not qualify him to be
a captain of industry. By definition, a captain of industry is one with positive integrity. Whereas, a
robber baron is motivated by greed. As Disney began his ascent, he was like the Pharaoh in his Prince
of Egypt production. Believing the end justified the means, Disney plowed over employees,
considering their livelihood as part of collateral damage. Disney was a robber baron with a pernicious
temper, who harshly controlled employees, and ruled his cast members by intimidation. Although Walt

as reflected in their paychecks. A captain of industry helps create jobs. As would follow with all of
Disney s financial success, did that make him a captain of industry? Disney may have opened a
variety of job opportunities for the public, but it did not necessarily qualify him as a captain of
industry. Just as a sweat factory employed its unhappy workers, many Disney employees felt similar
oppression. This led to the rally call of a strike. The day of the strike, ...Walt Disney ... found the

Disney to heed the demands of his disgruntled employees. Their strike was effective, and it gave
workers the chance to be paid more, and to be treated

Emotions In Renaissance Music
Throughout history, emotions have played a big part in contributing to society. Emotions whether they
have been happy, angry, fear or even joy, have also played a part in the type of art Humanity has
created, whether it be visual art, film, drama, or even music. These emotions are prevalent in art.
These emotions have also inspired artists to create what they intended to create. But there is one such
emotion that has played an important role in what has inspired art, and that is Melancholy. This type of
emotion is sometimes associated with Renaissance music. Melancholy is usually synonymous with
gloom, misery, sadness, unhappiness, joyless, woe, lachrymose, and even heavyhearted. Some of these
words incorporate many of John Dowland s pieces; however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Melancholy is not limited to songs however; instruments such as the lute, the violin, and even the
harpsichord can contain elements of melancholy. An example of this is, Lachrimae Pavan which was
composed by John Dowland as a lute piece. Lachrimae Pavan was composed in 1596, and there is also
the tear motif, and this is a common staple in music of the Renaissance that would contain
melancholy. The tear motif is not just limited to lute songs or voice accompanied by lute; it is also
featured in madrigals, and chansons, and many of John Dowland s pieces contained elements of
melancholy and the tear motif. On the subject of melancholy, it is quite possible for the cure for
melancholy is indeed melancholy itself according to Music in The Renaissance (Freedman 2013 pg

paper will talk about John Dowland as an important composer whose music contained elements of
melancholy, it will also talk about the tear motif and Lachrimae Pavane, flow my tears and how it
relates to melancholy, how arguably the cure for melancholy is melancholy itself, and it will argue on
how melancholy is an important theme in

Song of Myself by Walt Whitmas Essay
Most people awake to a daily routine, in which they keep eyes dazed staring at the pavement they
walk on yet so easily ignore. Usually, these same people go about their business with no more than a
passing glance towards their fellow man. However, there is an enigmatic few that are more than mere
pawns in the game of existence. They are passionate spectators who take in their surroundings with
every sense. They rejoice in the vastness of the electric crowd and become one with it. By all means,
these few can be called idle city men or, according to Charles Baudelaire s 1863 essay The Painter of
Modern Life , they are flâneurs. I believe a worthy example of a man such as this, is the persona in
Walt Whitman s Song of Myself . He is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He begins the section with I think I will do nothing for a long time but listen. (24) Here the persona is
invisible to the outside world, simply watching and waiting, responding to every single sound the city
produces and relishes in its essence. This corresponds to Baudelaire s flâneur not only as a passionate
spectator but also as one who sees the world, who is at the center of the world, and yet remains hidden
from it, rejoicing in his incognito. Another very important aspect of the flâneur is his ability to
comprehend and understand not only his surroundings but himself as well. He must be aware of his
being or in Baudelaire s words be like a kaleidoscope gifted with consciousness . In section forty two
he writes:
I know perfectly well my own egotism,
And know my omnivorous words, and cannot say any less.
And would fetch you whoever you are flush with myself. (44)
Here he is making it known that he is mindful of who he is and what he is saying. This is an aspect
that most ordinary people lack, but flâneurs do not. Flâneurs, like Whitman, know how to conduct
themselves in society and are present in all they do and say. There is no loss for identity, no confusion
in what is going on; there is only this awareness of all that indefinitely surrounds them in a certain
place and moment in time, within themselves and the outside world. Truth be told, there

Team Playoff Case Study
Sports have always served as a distraction from the rest of the world, and hopefully, the Badgers will
gain some votes of their own as the season winds down. With wins over Nebraska and Northwestern
in the past two weeks, Wisconsin sits at No. 7 in the college football rankings. With a few weeks left
in the regular season, and then conference championship games, there is still plenty of time for the
Badgers to make their move. If they win out and win the conference championship game, it will be
hard to keep them out, even with two losses. Here are the teams to root for and against if you want to
see Wisconsin in the Playoff.
BIG TEN

Root Against: Oklahoma, if you want
The Big 12 is not getting a playoff team unless there is chaos at the top of the standings. Oklahoma is
the highest ranked team in the conference, and they could still make a move with their backloaded
schedule, but without a conference championship game and without much respect for the conference
Oklahoma does not have much of a chance, but they have the Big 12 s best chance.
PAC 12
Root For: Washington State, PAC 12 South Champion
Washington State plays Washington in the last week of the season, and winning that game would ruin
Washington s chances and keep them out of the conference championship game and likely out of the
playoff race.
If Washington State fails to derail Washington before the conference championship game, then it will
be up to the South Division Champion to beat the Huskies in the conference championship.
Washington likely will not get into the Playoff without a conference championship, and the South
Champion (likely Colorado, USC, or Utah) will have a chance to beat

Gel Filtration Lab Report
Gel Filtration and SDS PAGE of a Mixture OBJECTIVE. I This Lab Report is an analysis of the
results of a two part experiment. In the first part, we used a gel filtration column to separate the
components of a mixture composed of protein and non protein molecules. By doing so we hoped to
obtain fractions that contained single components of the mixture, while also gaining insight into the
relative molecular weight of each component compared to each other. We would then plot these
fractions onto nitrocellulose paper in order to determine which fractions had protein. In the second
part, we would use the fractions which we had determined had protein to conduct an SDS PAGE. By
doing so we hoped to determine an estimate on the molecular weight of the proteins present in each
fraction by comparing it to a tracker dye composed of a variety of molecules of differing molecular
weight. METHODS. II In the gel filtration step, we began with a slurry of Bio Gel P 100 beads
suspended in 20 mM phosphate buffer (Equilibration buffer) and an upright column with a stopcock.
We added enough of the Bio Gel P 100 beads to the column until we reached a height of 4.7 cm,
making sure not to allow the column to run dry and that the top of the beads column is flat. We then
added the sample, a mixture of Blue Dextran (2 mg/ml, 2 MDa), Hemoglobin (2 mg/ml), Bovine
Serum Albumin (2 mg/ml), and Yellow Food Coloring (5 μl/ml, ~500 Da) (Sheffield, 37). This was
followed by another ~1 ml of equilibration

Colonization of America
When the Europeans had discovered America, the possibilities for them were endless. Although
mistakenly discovered, it greatly aroused the curiosity of many European explorers. There were new
opportunities for them to expand, and in more than just one way. Chances to spread religion, boost
their economy, and help themselves politically. As soon as Columbus returned, the pope issued a
decree saying the world itself was an inheritance of Christianity. Spain and Portugal, the two main
Christian powers at the time, set out to spread Christianity all across the world following the Treaty of
Tordesillas in 1494. What better place to start then with the new found land of the Americas. As soon
as the Europeans figured out a reason, they began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This created a large amount of wealth, and more and more markets and ports began to appear across
America. A supply had been created and demand followed, creating economic success. Merchants and
their ships increased and carried materials such as cloth and wool between European and American
ports, and an economic boom with a steady population increase to show for it. This pushed
exploration further in all directions, and they now had plenty of reasons to continue expansion. From
the initial dominance of Christianity to the Protestant Reformation, religious cause for navigating
toward America suited both sides. The political causes were justified in the monarchies interest in the
new land, creating a way to expand their control, but eventually leading to war among one another.
Economically, the Europeans benefited extremely well, and for that reason alone gave them a strong
incentive for colonization in America. The three causes all relate with one another, and one cause
relies heavily on another. The Europeans exploration had not expected to encounter such an
opportunity, but with it came the success that eventually laid out the plans of America to be something
beyond what they thought

  • 3. Research Paper On Strawberry Icing The first thing is to gather all materials needed. Check your cupboard for a vanilla cake mix, to get the best rise use Betty Crocker. However, an off brand will do the job just fine. The following items are a list of material and ingredients you will need: an 8X10 cake pan, a large and a small bowl, a spoon, a knife, a butter knife, measuring cups, a blender, eggs, vegetable oil, one pack of fresh strawberries, strawberry glaze, and light pink icing. • 4. Civil Unrest Of The United States From its conception, the United States of America has been in a very unique position of being able to develop in any fashion. Under another group of intelligent minds it could have been far different from the democratic republic that we know it to be today. A key factor in the development of this government was time. Although there would be some civil unrest in the years following the War of Independence, the next major outbreak of violence would not occur until the French Revolution. These circumstances alleviated pressure to establish a strict system of government, and gave the opportunity for trial and error. In examining the early failures of legislation, understanding what was wanted, and what concessions were needed, you can start to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For states like Maryland and New York, civic duties and powers were limited to the wealthy elite. In contrast, states with a broader middle class, like New Jersey and Pennsylvania, favored a larger voting population with less restrictive requirements to participate, and limited the power given to elected officials. State constitutions laid the groundwork for the next stage of development, a federal government. The Articles of Confederation were just as important as the Declaration of Independence in helping to establish the legitimacy of separating from England and becoming a new nation, but the document was not without its shortcomings. The biggest concern of the Continental Congress was ensuring that any system created would be protected from potential despotism. The weak framework of the Articles could be viewed as their focus on what they didn t want, instead of focusing on what they really needed. This wasn t a document concerning one nation, it was a contract between thirteen nations to ally against outside repression. For those with a strong sense of state pride, the problems apparent throughout the Articles of Confederation could be ignored. The federal government wasn t weak, they said. It was limited. It was designed to protect citizens from tyranny, and in that regard it was very successful. As oppression was the biggest concern, it was repeatedly addressed in each issue. By restricting military to state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will be based on the effect these regimes had on the social and economic standard of Congo. That is the focus will be on a timeline basis; how things evolved from the colonial era of Congo, to the post colonial era and to the status quo. My reason for choosing these topic is, Congo can be considered as developing state or under developed state depends on what your personal view of the criteria s that qualifies a state as a developing state or an underdeveloped state; unlike its western counterpart: example the United States, Great Britain and European states. Now the question is; could the under development of Congo be as a result in the poor leadership Congo have had in time past? Is Congo in the right part to archiving infrastructural development and increasing the social economic status? Can the present leaders do anything different to expedite development? Or are they moving at a good pace? These and more are questions that arises from a topic like this. By the end of this research paper, all the questions asked in the previous paragraphs will be answered, and also I will include some of my personal taught on what political modules Congo should adopt in order to foster its economy and social standard. • 10. Freedom Of Speech And The Right Of Bear Arms After 9/11, Netanyahu argued against regarding basic liberties such free speech and the right to bear arms as absolutes. In modern western society, we have rights, such as freedom of speech, and in some countries, the right to bear arms. In response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Netanyahu argues that these rights are not universal to everybody. We need to set limits as to how far these rights can take us and suspend these rights for some people, because not everybody deserves to be granted these rights. At times when we are under threat from terrorism, we need to reduce freedom of speech and the second amendment in order to protect ourselves. There are also people who do not deserve these rights at all, because they will use them in order to further the terrorists agenda. Freedom of speech will encourage people to convince others that terrorist acts are acceptable, and will further convince people to join terrorist organizations and participate in terrorist acts. Furthermore, Netanyahu believes that terrorism is something that should not be taken lightly. We must do everything in our power to prevent and fight terrorism, and reducing the levels of rights that we have is one of the measures that we have to take. It is not only what we should do in the country that we live in. Netanyahu believes that we should take a hardline approach to terrorism. It is important for us to go into other countries and fight terrorists through whatever methods are necessary, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If not, it certainly has had an impact on the teenagers of America today. Social media has been around for a long time. There are many applications for social media, some of which are Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook. With the rapid evolution of social media, people believe that social media is impacting teenagers in a negative way. However, some believe that there are positive effects. The negative effects of social media on teenagers include poor student performance, lack of sleep, and increased vulnerability. However, before any of these arguments can be talked about, it is important that people know the history of social media. The development of social media started in the 1950 s with commercial computers. This led to the creation of personal computers, which paved the way for the development of e mail. One of the key developments of social media is the cell phone. They evolved into Iphones, which include many features such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. These allow people to communicate anywhere at any time. The first recognizable social network using the same definition as today s Facebook and MySpace sites was SixDegrees.com, launched in 1997. • 13. The Battle Of Bunker Hill The Battle of Bunker Hill By Connor Estes Honors U.S History 1 Mr. Murphy Groton Dunstable Regional High School January 18, 2016 People may believe that the Bunker Hill Monument is a simple representation of an American pastime that occurred during the Revolutionary War, but there is much more to it than some may believe. The actions that took place on June 17, 1775 became a very crucial, and telling role to how the success of the American forces would come during the Revolutionary War. We can imagine that there would be a great variety of answers. However, most people might say that, in general, Christians are not very different from everybody else. This is a problem. There are many people who claim to be Christians whose lifestyles do not reflect their beliefs. The problem with this situation is that it gives non Christians the wrong impression of Christianity. People are ready to sue the minute someone does something to them that they feel was uncalled for. We can see through this that people still have a desire for truth and justice. They want to hear and see good things. People think of Christians as good people. They expect someone who claims to be a Christian to be a kind, moral, overall good person. It is extremely disheartening if those who claim to have the guide to moral living are just as dishonest and coldhearted as anyone else. It discredits Christianity s claim of having a better way. For example, let s say that it is discovered that a person who has always attended church and openly claimed Christianity has been embezzling funds from their company. Many people would be even more angry that he was hiding behind the front of being a good, honest Christian than if someone who had not laid claim to those values was discovered in the same crime. If people cannot trust Christians who claim to be moral, whom can they trust? Is there anything that deems a person or group of people trustworthy? Hypocrisy among Christians can cause these kinds of ideas to grow. Christians are commanded in the Bible to take the gospel into all the world. God desires that all people know Him. However, since He is in heaven and not on the earth now, it is up to His people to show others the way to Him. Much of that testimony for Christ is through the way Christians lives are lived. • 17. Corporate Social Responsibility of Levi Strauss It is the nature of business to expand its business and increase sales. What is ethical? In my opinion ethics are defined by what is right. Some ethics are defined by law but many must come from within the person or business. One must realize that sometimes what might be considered unethical by law or ethical by law might need to be revisited and thought about if the law or lack of it produces unethical outcomes. In doing business so many times an organization must think globally. This might be done to increase sales and/or profits or to lower labor costs. They were isolated from not only the white race but also their own people. Mr. Michael Reed was one of those slave owners that treated his slaves that they were nothing more than a piece of property. In his files, Mr. Reed had a ledger of daily activities. This ledger contained hourly and daily record of everything his slaves would do. In some of his recordings, Mr. Reed would write down very strange things for what activity his slaves were doing. He would make mention when they were sick, of course so he could know how many hours they worked; but many of his recording were not appropriate for him to be writing. He acted almost as if a lion stalking its prey before it killed them, minus the killing. If his slaves went to the restroom, he would repeatedly write that or the word nothing if he felt that they were not contributing to work on the plantations. By Reed doing this to his slaves, he isolated them to not allow for them to have any outside contact. He silenced his slaves from feeling like humans. Being trapped in this isolation dehumanized the slaves by treating them as more of a research project/business rather than actual people, even though they were never thought of as people at the time. With a few weeks left in the regular season, and then conference championship games, there is still plenty of time for the Badgers to make their move. If they win out and win the conference championship game, it will be hard to keep them out, even with two losses. Here are the teams to root for and against if you want to see Wisconsin in the Playoff. BIG TEN Root For: Michigan, Nebraska Meeting an undefeated Michigan in the Big Ten Championship would be a chance for Wisconsin to get revenge and make it into the Playoff. If Michigan loses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Root Against: Oklahoma, if you want The Big 12 is not getting a playoff team unless there is chaos at the top of the standings. Oklahoma is the highest ranked team in the conference, and they could still make a move with their backloaded schedule, but without a conference championship game and without much respect for the conference Oklahoma does not have much of a chance, but they have the Big 12 s best chance. PAC 12 Root For: Washington State, PAC 12 South Champion Washington State plays Washington in the last week of the season, and winning that game would ruin Washington s chances and keep them out of the conference championship game and likely out of the playoff race. If Washington State fails to derail Washington before the conference championship game, then it will be up to the South Division Champion to beat the Huskies in the conference championship. Washington likely will not get into the Playoff without a conference championship, and the South Champion (likely Colorado, USC, or Utah) will have a chance to beat ... • 36. Gel Filtration Lab Report Gel Filtration and SDS PAGE of a Mixture OBJECTIVE. I This Lab Report is an analysis of the results of a two part experiment. In the first part, we used a gel filtration column to separate the components of a mixture composed of protein and non protein molecules. By doing so we hoped to obtain fractions that contained single components of the mixture, while also gaining insight into the relative molecular weight of each component compared to each other. We would then plot these fractions onto nitrocellulose paper in order to determine which fractions had protein. In the second part, we would use the fractions which we had determined had protein to conduct an SDS PAGE. By doing so we hoped to determine an estimate on the molecular weight of the proteins present in each fraction by comparing it to a tracker dye composed of a variety of molecules of differing molecular weight. METHODS. II In the gel filtration step, we began with a slurry of Bio Gel P 100 beads suspended in 20 mM phosphate buffer (Equilibration buffer) and an upright column with a stopcock. We added enough of the Bio Gel P 100 beads to the column until we reached a height of 4.7 cm, making sure not to allow the column to run dry and that the top of the beads column is flat. We then added the sample, a mixture of Blue Dextran (2 mg/ml, 2 MDa), Hemoglobin (2 mg/ml), Bovine Serum Albumin (2 mg/ml), and Yellow Food Coloring (5 μl/ml, ~500 Da) (Sheffield, 37). This was followed by another ~1 ml of equilibration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Colonization of America When the Europeans had discovered America, the possibilities for them were endless. Although mistakenly discovered, it greatly aroused the curiosity of many European explorers. There were new opportunities for them to expand, and in more than just one way. Chances to spread religion, boost their economy, and help themselves politically. As soon as Columbus returned, the pope issued a decree saying the world itself was an inheritance of Christianity. Spain and Portugal, the two main Christian powers at the time, set out to spread Christianity all across the world following the Treaty of Tordesillas in 1494. What better place to start then with the new found land of the Americas. As soon as the Europeans figured out a reason, they began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This created a large amount of wealth, and more and more markets and ports began to appear across America. A supply had been created and demand followed, creating economic success. Merchants and their ships increased and carried materials such as cloth and wool between European and American ports, and an economic boom with a steady population increase to show for it. This pushed exploration further in all directions, and they now had plenty of reasons to continue expansion. From the initial dominance of Christianity to the Protestant Reformation, religious cause for navigating toward America suited both sides. The political causes were justified in the monarchies interest in the new land, creating a way to expand their control, but eventually leading to war among one another. Economically, the Europeans benefited extremely well, and for that reason alone gave them a strong incentive for colonization in America. The three causes all relate with one another, and one cause relies heavily on another. The Europeans exploration had not expected to encounter such an opportunity, but with it came the success that eventually laid out the plans of America to be something beyond what they thought ...
