The Pathetic Fallacy in Camus The Stranger and Yoshimoto s Kitchen
English A1 Higher Level World Literature Paper 1
Ojiugo Nneoma UCHE Candidate Number: 1415 068
1480 Words
May 2010
In Camus The Stranger, and Yoshimoto s Kitchen, both authors use the literary technique of pathetic
fallacy a branch of personification which gives to the weather and physical world, human attributes. In
both texts, this technique enriches the narratives both aesthetically and in terms of meaning by telling
the inner emotions of the characters. However, while in Kitchen, the pathetic fallacy is employed
throughout the text, in The Stranger, it takes centre stage only at the most crucial point in the book
with Meursault, the protagonist killing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The glittering night in this case is thankfully left alone to ring with all its positive connotations;
without the show spoiling, depressing adjective lonely (6) or its companions. With the reoccurrence of
death, loss and with them, sorrow, Mikage says: I watched the gloomy clouds of the orange of the
sunset spreading across them in the western sky. Soon, the cold night would descend and fill the
hollow in my heart (56). Scenery which in better circumstances would have been a beautiful sunshine
and the coming of a peaceful night, become gloomy and cold. Thus, the spreading and descen[t] are
not really of the sunset, or of the night, but of the sorrow that comes with loss. With the reappearance
of hope in the final cycle, the pathetic fallacy is both a reflection on the past, as well as an evidence of
tenacious hope. Mikage says: The moon shone down from high above, crossing the sky, erasing the
stars in its path. It was full. I watched it go behind a cloud, completely hidden, and re emerge (94).
Stars usually have a positive connotation as they hold light in the sea of the night s darkness However,
in this scene, there is a seeming contradiction as they are eras[ed] (96). This is however merely
seeming because with the full moon, an atmosphere more positive than that of stars in a dark night is
created. The moon leaves a bright

Oresteia
Oresteia The Issue of Justice in Aeschylus Eumenides
The concept of justice is manifested through the three plays of Aeschylus Oresteia. The old tradition
of justice, the private blood feud, caused an ungoverned succession of violent acts that spiralled
uncontrollably. Aegisthus, Clytemnestra s lover, is introduced in Agamemnon; he desires vengeance
for the plot contrived by Agamemnon s father (Ag: 1605 1611).1 Neither Agamemnon nor Aegisthus
took part in this plot and yet as the chorus explains (Ag: 755 6)
But ancient Violence longs to breed,
new violence comes
when its fatal hour comes,
The justice system of this period demanded that one avenge the death of a family member, this can be
seen in The Libation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the violent acts of reprisal do not end with Agamemnon. With this act comes a twist within
the traditional system of justice. In The Libation Bearers, Orestes must choose to avenge his father s
murder. The twist comes in that by avenging his father, Orestes will be committing matricide, a crime
revolting to the gods and especially to the Furies. Orestes is placed in a no win situation; he must
avenge his father or else be plagued by (Lib: 285 6)
.................leprous boils that ride the flesh,
their wild teeth gnawing the mother tissue,
Unfortunately, the same fate awaits him if he commits matricide, thereby avenging his father. Orestes
chooses the latter and is besieged by the hounds of mother s hate. (Lib: 1055 6). Through this
sequence of murderous events, Aeschylus demonstrates the complexity and futility of the blood feud
as a system of justice. There are no winners, and the cycle of violence does not end. Thus, this cycle of
vengeance is not justice.
In the Eumenides, Aeschylus manifests a new system of justice for the more civilised times. Orestes,
plagued by the Furies, turns to Apollo (Eum: 88 90)
Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice

Racism Is An Unequivocal Problem Throughout Australian...
You can t delete racism. It s like a cigarette. You can t stop smoking if you don t want to, and you can t
stop racism if people don t want to. But I ll do everything I can to help. According to UWS, one in five
people living in Australia have experienced racist abuse. Nearly half of all Australian residents from a
culturally and linguistically diverse background have experienced racism at some time in their life.
According to FYA, approximately seven in ten teenagers have experienced racism throughout their
life. The question still remains: does the preservation of culture, community and the environment
depends on us? Absolutely. The culture of Australia in my opinion is the main aspect of this entire
statement. I believe this is evident throughout the strong messages Randa Abdel Fattah states in her
speech and, the everlasting words from the powerful speech Wei Li and Me.
To begin with, racism is an unequivocal problem throughout Australian society. The essence of racism
is one ethnic community believing they have superiority over another community or culture, and some
of it is just ignorance. With Australia today being a multiethnic society, racism has been a part of our
community for a very long time.
For years and years, the depiction of the whites being superior over the Indigenous has happened all
throughout Australia. Racial abuse in Australia has been recently streamed worldwide by passengers
on public transport, videoing white Australians verbally

An Aesthetic Experience
To have an aesthetic experience there are two criteria that need to be met. The first is paying close
attention to intrinsic features. The second is that the object we focus on must be viewed as worthy of
our attention. An example from the book of an object being viewed as valuable is on page 58. Young
children will pick weeds and think they are just as beautiful as flowers because they do not see a
difference. As they get older they begin to see what is held at a higher value in society (p.58). I see this
at work when children bring me grass or rocks to hold onto because they see them as special. Most of
the girls only pick things with color, so they can kind of tell the difference. During the spring one of
our teachers was admiring a large bloom on the hydrangea bush. An older student then decided to pick
it and bring it to the teacher. This upset the teacher because that flower was not meant for the kids to
pick, but this shows how children understand and copy the ideas of adults. From the book I learned
that the most common way of assessing a child s maturity level in the 1940 s was to look at how well
they could draw a picture of a person (p.58). I can see this as a realistic way of assessing young
students. However, as you get older I don t think this would work as well. I am very bad at imagining
things so I would have a difficult time conjuring up a picture of a person in my mind to draw. I am
also not very good at drawing and when I draw people they are mostly

What Was The Impact Of The Great Awakening
Throughout the course of human history, religious movements have been a reoccuring theme, from the
Chartist movement to the advent of scientology. They are brought about by a variety of reasons, and
no reason is completely determining of how the movement affected the people around it more than
another. By 1763, with the end of the Seven Years War, liberal political ideas such as republicanism
and liberalism were taking root in the colonists mind; what these two philosophies shared most in
common was that they were breaking away from the conventional political jurisdiction. Thus, this
brought about a wave of anti secularization in which the already ultra religious colonists became even
more religious in a movement known as the Great Awakening. ... Show more content on

A key aspect that caused the American Revolution was people not only losing faith in their mother
country of England, but not caring to obey the rules and laws that England imposed upon them,
causing a lack of respect for England s authority. This was brought about by the Navigation Acts, but
also by the ideals that were brought about in the Great Awakening. People started becoming more bold
and revolutionary, rethinking everything that they held to be true. There were certain political concepts
that criticized the social hierarchies of colonial society, and eventually, this led to criticizing religious
norms, which led to criticizing norms of all kinds, from what religion meant to oneself to how much
authority of a government overseas really possessed over the colonists. However, the Great
Awakening, while doing many benefits, also lead to some consequences for certain groups. The
church and its associated clergy became less important as people started to believe that they could rely
on their own beliefs. Colonists had their own religious power right in their hands, rather than in the
hands of the Church of England. Traditional authority and everything a colonist took to believe was
true was suddenly being

Why Is Huck Finn Being Civilized
I am nothing like Huckleberry Finn. On the first page of this book Huckleberry says You don t know
me without you have read a book by the name of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Throughout
Huckleberry Finn, we learn the many different characteristics of Huckleberry Finn. Through this, I
have learned that I enjoy many things that Huckleberry Finn does not appreciate.
I love being educated and being civilized. Huckleberry Finn, on the other hand, hates the idea of both
education and being sivilized . Huckleberry is witty, but not educated the way the Widow thinks he
should be. The stiff, uncomfortable clothes the widow makes him wear cause him to sweat and sweat,
and feel all cramped up. When Huckleberry Finn did not enjoy going to school anymore, he started
skipping and eventually got in trouble. It is not that Huckleberry does not appreciate what The Widow
Douglas is trying to do; he just does not like being forced into education. ... Show more content on

the company made it a requirement that applicants needed to participate in sales tryout during training

Wage laws play an important role in protecting and enforcing fairness in a company and its
employees. It is essential that employees are compensated with any work related activities including
training and companies should allocate payroll for any training or on boarding activities of new hires.

The Main Problems With The Constitution
Felix Amza Professor Omowale POS1041 Due 06/23/2015 Project Question Nr. III One of the main
problems with the constitution is what some may argue that the role of the president was not very
thought of and linked to the constitution, therefore jeopardizing the nation to a dysfunctional and
dangerous presidency. Throughout the history of American government, there have been a couple
presidencies which have managed to gain high power and disregard the wellbeing of the nation,
behave inappropriately and even unconstitutional. A good example of what some argue to have been a
bad presidency, would be the case of George W. Bush, which on different occasions, he thought it
would be suitable to disapprove of democracy and legal norms, by acting in ways such as; ordering
government representatives to bypass statues and treaties, not allowing congressional oversight and
jump into unwanted actions such as starting the war with Iraq which was not favored in the Congress.
Normally the constitutions contains systems in place that should be able to counterattack such actions
and behaviors, like the famous division of power and checks and balances . As the government of
America is divided into three powers; the executory, judiciary and legislative, the system of checks
and balances gives the three divisions of government the power of checking upon each other and
ability of taking action when there is an unconstitutional act from one s side. The system of checks
and balances may

King Henry V Character Analysis
Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce good leaders. However,
in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is acclaimed as the dynastic successor to England.
Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the Dauphin. With
some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place as the French heir.
In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young age. As previously
explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V gained a new demeanor and
changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s personality change leads to his noble
leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words even as a young king. King Henry s
conduct causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality, impartiality, and authority cause him to
be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be a just ruler. When Henry rises to the throne, he
sheds his reckless personality as much as possible, and he even distances himself from an old friend,
John Falstaff. King Henry becomes a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains
important morals for a ruler such as humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age. Henry
shows a glimpse of his humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire
them for battle. Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more
(3.1.1 2). By addressing the soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even
goes as far as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they respond
as motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold his/her head higher than
his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more popular when he/she considers all people equally.
Also, Henry is loved by the Church for his piety and other morals. As the Bishop of Canterbury and
the Bishop of Ely discuss the bill about to be passed which would tax the church, the Bishops mention
that Henry V is full of grace and fair reward. / And a true lover of the Church (1.1.24 25Whn Henry

Dissent And Disagreement
Dissent and Disagreement A world where slavery is still widespread, genocide is an everyday
occurrence, and the voices of the common citizen is silenced. This would have happened if we only
disagreed over such matters and not dissented. In the Decline of Radicalism, by Daniel J. Boorstin, he
asserts that disagreement is the life blood of democracy, dissension is its cancer and that dissent is
negative word. Boorstin also claims that disagreement produces debate , which is true, but could have
all conflicts been solved with diplomacy? Dissent is the life blood of democracy and it is not negative;
it is vital to how our nation came to be. Dissent is, according to Boorstin, is when people have a
quarrel , and disagreement is when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But they do not always listen. Dissent is when you revolt and you fight back against voices that try to
drown out yours. History shows that dissent is the true baseline of democracy. In the Civil Rights
movement, would talking about racism, segregation, and oppressive laws have changed a thing? No, it
took dissent to progress forward. It took protesting in the streets, it took illegal action and
subsequently getting arrested for it. Disagreement would have not push America forward, dissent did,
does, and will. Discussion is bred from disagreement, according to the author, but does discussion
work? Discussion and diplomacy are also foundations of democracy. Debate and nonviolence are
cornerstones of how our government works. With it, we avoid a lot of conflict and we can manage to
find a compromise in coordination with other parties. Though, you have to ask yourself this question:
does discussion always work? If we talked with Great Britain about seceding from their empire, would
we even be our own country? We dissented and fought for our independence. Likewise, in the
American Civil War, it would be completely unacceptable if we compromised on slavery. We fought
so human beings could have basic rights, and there would be no way we could talk the South into
abolishing slavery. Diplomacy is beneficial to democracy, but the truth is that without dissenting
democracy would not exist at all. Boorstin writes

Until 1999, the private possession of firearms was regulated at the cantonal level that and was held

What Is Hans Denck Concerning True Love
Concerning True Love This work is written by Hans Denck in 1527 and it serves like a mystical, yet
systematic description of certain Anabaptist beliefs. Firstly, he speaks of how love, true love, is a
spiritual gift with God being the perfect example of love in Jesus Christ. No one, Denck says, can love
or even know love without first accepting Christ into their hearts. Denck also utilizes his theory of
love to explain what is meant by the new law or new covenant in Scripture. While followers of God
were once chained by the Law, Christians are now liberated from the Law because of Christ s death
and resurrection. Also, Denck shows his colors as an Anabaptist by backing the stance that baptism is
not for infants, but for mature believers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Battle Of The Roman Empire By Caesar s Commentarii De...
In the unrelenting expansion of the Roman Empire, Caesar s Commentarii de Bello Gallico accounts
the engagements of the Gallic Wars, alongside his personal intrigue of Gallic people. Yet, this work
makes use of and conveys anthropological reports of a people approaching subjugation by Rome, the
Gauls. Furthermore, Asad s Introduction; Barlow s Noble Gauls and their other in Caesar s
Propaganda ; G. Boys Stones The Recovery of Primitive Wisdom in Early Stoicism; Feuchtwang s
The Colonial Formation of British Social Anthropology ; and C. Kraus, Bellum Gallcium, attests to
the pedagogical function of such work. Therefore, I contend the Bellum Gallicum, presents as a
didactic text―in regards to Caesar, who propels the Stoic theory of cultural maturation, informed by
the pseudo scientific principles of earlier philosophers, namely, Posidonius and Seneca the Younger. In
addition, Caesar exploits the primal nature of Roman subjects to further both his and Rome s agenda.
Thereby, formulating a handbook, intended to instruct future administrators in conquering, governing,
and accordingly, in empire building.

Rhetorical Analysis Of Albee s Albee
Albee uses a silly and humorous tone of voice. He uses strong language and arguments throughout his
text. It establishes a silly tone for the text. Albee establishes this tone by writing, What? F what up?
No. F what up? (Albee 41). This quote shows the tone that Albee establishes throughout the text. It
also connects to the sexuality taboo that is in today s society. Albee s use of the the word F is often
referred to as sexual intercourse. Albee is highlighting how there s a certain taboo regarding sexuality.
Thompson writes his text with a candid type of tone. He narrates the story by describing what he goes
through by using strong and direct language. For example, he talks about the drug use that he and his
attorney indulged in. As seen in the quote, the only real cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and
then drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas (Thompson 4). This quote shows Thompson s
erratic and candid tone. This quote also provides a deeper meaning. By Thompson describing his drug
addiction, it shows how today s society is dwelling in over consumption. Thompson s drug addiction
is a representation of today s excess consumption. Thompson s representation of today s society is also
found when he describes the drive from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood to the drug and gambling
central Las Vegas. He describes the act of driving for hours while taking all sorts of drugs. This shows
how crazy he is and the excess of consumption. He uses

What Are The Importance Of The Olympic Games
Olympic Games: In order to honor the Greek god Zeus, Greeks held what is known as the Olympic
Games, they were held every four years. These games attracted people from all over Greece, large
crowds would gather to watch the many different sports. The largest and most important of the
Olympic games were held at Olympia. Olympia was very special to the Greeks because it was known
as the most important sanctuary of Zeus. It was very important to offer gifts, take oaths and make
sacrifices in front of Zeus statue as a sign that they would obey all rules. These customary games were
announced by couriers, who would travel to every major Greek city, and special provisions where
even made to protect those who traveled to see or participate in the games at Olympia. Equestrian
Events: In a special arena called a hippodrome, the most popular sport of chariot racing took place.
Chariot racing was a sport that only the affluent took part in, as the costs of maintaining horses and a
chariot was very expensive. Chariots had other uses though; they were used to lead soldiers into battle,
other sports events and even for the funerals of champions. The chariot vase shown on in our reading
perfectly depicts the authenticity of chariot racing. Horseracing came soon after, due to the popularity
of chariot racing. Combat Sports: Boxing, wrestling and another form of wrestling known as

Self Control In Odysseus
Along the journey home, Odysseus and his men are presented with many situations that act as tests of
their personal character and self control. Whether it be the temptation of revelry, the ability to escape
their worries, or gluttony, the men must choose between their own selfish desires or resistance for the
communal good. Throughout Homer s Odyssey, the failure of Odysseus s men to recognize their lack
of self control due to foolishness results in them bringing misfortune upon themselves and ultimately
their community. In contrast, their king and commander, Odysseus, successfully displays how to avoid
this lack of self control by possessing tremendous amounts of self discipline and prudence. After
attacking the Cicones, Odysseus men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Odysseus seems to be the only one not participating in the celebration and avoids the expectation or
temptation to join in. As his men got drunk, Odysseus kept a clear mind, thinking ahead to what will
most likely happen. His men lack this foresight and become shortsighted, trading their long term
security for some short term fun. Odysseus differs from his men in his ability to look ahead to the
possible outcome and consequences of certain actions. The death of their comrades could have easily
been avoided if they had packed up and left before the rest of the Cicones could take their revenge or
at least not been drunk as they fought off the army. Shortly after escaping the Cicones, the men are
presented with another temptation, but their folly blinds them to the consequences of trying to escape
from their present worries. Odysseus shipmates, unable to resist the temptation, ate the lotus and as a
result forget about their journey home where their loved ones and community are waiting for them.
They are tempted by the idea that they could stay there forever and never return home. Much like drug
users, the Lotus eaters and anyone who shared in their activity forgot their troubles and earthly
concerns for the time being. As the men grazed on lotus their memory of the journey home dissolved
forever (Od.9.109 10). The real temptation was the ability to detach from the world and forget their
worries. Ultimately, if they had stayed, not only would life become a

Should Euthanasia Be Morally Permissible
First Section: Introduction
Today, the resolution for the debate is Let it be resolved that euthanasia should be morally permissible
for the disabled and children . To begin with, one must comprehend the essence of euthanasia and
morally permissible to follow the arguments in this debate. According to the Oxford Dictionary,
euthanasia is the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an
irreversible coma . Whereas, morally permissible according to Deni Elliot, in her book Ethics the First
Person means the behaviour that is tolerated by the moral system . With regards to Euthanasia, it is
classified as active and passive. In layman s terms, Active Euthanasia is when the immediate result of
death is not from the patient s disease but a medical action was done to result their death such as
providing a lethal drug. In the other hand, Passive Euthanasia is when the death is caused by the
patient s disease which enables to advance naturally without any influence of treatment which might
prolong the patients life. As I have stated my clarifications, I am hereby to present three arguments
within the PRO side of the debate.
First Argument: (Decrease the Act of Suffering By Having The Freedom to Choose)
First of all, it is inevitable that the argument euthanasia being morally permissible is relevant to the
philosophical theory Utilitarianism which generally fixates on increasing happiness and decreasing
misery to an

Comparing Dorian Gray And Neil Jordan s Interview With A
Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray and Neil Jordan s Interview with a Vampire are gothic
narrations that incorporate the themes of sensuality and hedonism. Although the texts do not contain
any explicit statements of homoeroticism, the suggestive narration, allusions and imagery, camera
angles and music highlight the homoerotic feelings between men. While Wilde does not mention any
homosexual acts explicitly, the element of homoeroticism is described within the competition for
Dorian s attention. Dorian is described through allusions to be likened to Adonis; a creature who looks
as if he were made of ivory and rose leaves. (Lord Henry Wotten) Adonis, a representation of youthful
idealism is a symbolic gesture of Dorian s youthful sensuality. Lord Henry and Basil Hallward praise
Dorian s youthful demeanour, Basil commenting as long as I live, the personality of Dorian Gray will
dominate me. (Basil Hallward) Whilst Basil is rejected, Dorian wishes to emulate Lord Henry, which
in turn, rouses Lord Henry from his characteristic languor to a desire to influence Dorian, a process
that is itself a sublimated expression of homosexuality. The older gentlemen s longing for Dorian and
his admiration of them adds taboo to the secrecy of the characters private lives. Sensuality and ...

Warner Bros Logos History
In September of 1925, Warner Bros. retrofitted an old studio in Brooklyn, New York to produce sound
film using the Western Electric Technology. To showcase the new technology Warner Bros. signed
licensing agreements, and a number of popular entertainers. Warner Bros. made an ingenious move by
signing these contracts before they even had use for the talent involved, which allowed the company
to avoid paying inflated rates routinely demanded by talent once sound became the norm. Since
Warner Bros. had a lack of movie stars and its operation was small, sound allowed for them to become
a major studio. Warner Bros. pushed ahead with the sound on disc technology, but the majority of the

We could not have the films we do today, or at any point without advancing and improving the
technology in the industry. It all started with photography and then came the Kinetoscope, then the
Vitascope, then improvements onto the camera, 30mm cameras, 70mm, and Vitaphones. All these
advances happened within a 30 year period which is quite remarkable. These advances in technology
impacted the history of film forever. Without the innovation to put sound in film, filmmakers would
have been limited to what the can do with their characters. After so long it would have got sick of
seeing very identical silent films over and over again. This also allowed for music to become a big
part in film. Music helps the audiences understand what kind of emotion they should feel during a
film, and during a silent film you cannot achieve that next level of emotion. Also by putting sound into
film this allowed the audience to hear a character speak. Being able to hear a character talk lets the
audience get more invested into the character. The character on screen being silent would draw a line
that the audiences always knew they were in a movie, but now with the advanced technology hearing
the character speak and interact with others get people more immersed. The technological innovations
have been further improved on today with the use of CGI, digital cameras, and many

Education As A Motif In Shelley And Dickens
Education as a motif in Shelley and Dickens
Charles Dickens and Mary Shelley lived during the time of the Industrial Revolution. It was a time of
improvement and change that not everybody agreed was good. Charles Dickens Great Expectations
and Mary Shelley s Frankenstein both incorporate the reception of this change in their respective
novels. With change there comes a learning process of how all new inventions can become part of life
and how society is supposed to be. Furthermore, both authors chose education as a motif for
portraying not only the change in education but also the fear that comes with this New Age .While
Shelley lived and wrote at the rather beginning of the Industrial Revolution, Dickens work gives the

Robin Gilmore writes in his article The Pursuit of Gentility about Dickens writing skills and his way
of describing the upperclass without really having been born into it. Dickens was able to incorporate
his experience into his novel Great Expectations when he describes the character Pip and how he
wants to become a gentleman (Gilmore 576 582). Furthermore, Gilmore adds an important argument
when he talks about the Victorian age and how people may be able to work themselves up to higher
classes but never manage to become equals to those who were born a gentleman . Classes of that time
were slowly merging together and this is the real reason why Pip was able to reach his status of a
gentleman in the end. However, people of that time were still aware of the discrepancy between
classes and were afraid of losing their status as wealthy and understood people of upper class. Pip s
guardian Mr. Jaggers once claims that you have to have a certain education, knowledge and behavior
in order to become accepted as a member of the upper class, It is considered that you must be better
educated in accordance with your altered position, and that you will be alive to the importance and
necessity of at once entering on that advantage (Dickens 110). This shows that education has a huge
impact on what you become. However, more importantly, the family you are born into decides
whether or not you will have the privilege of receiving this education of higher standards. Pip is
surrounded by a multi layered society that influences him throughout his life. All the circumstances of
ongoing change in society as well as technology etc. have a huge

Consequences of Disrupting Biological Rhythms (A2...
Critically consider the consequences of disrupting biological rhythms (24)
A rhythm is something that is regularly repeated. All living organisms experience rhythmic changes
which tend to coincide with seasonal or daily environmental changes. Most organisms have an internal
biological clock called endogenous pacemakers, which are influences by external environmental
factors called exogenous zeitgebers, these control periodic changes. The sleep wake cycle is a
circadian rhythm that repeats itself every 24 hours. However these can become desynchronised,
resulting in a disruption of your biological rhythm. It can be disrupted by many factors, including Jet
lag and shift work.

But what the study does not take into consideration is the fact that the east coast team could just be
genuinely better than the west coast team, and that is the reason they win, and not because of jetlag
and the direction they travel. But this study does have ecological validity due to them being real
teams, and it not being in laboratory conditions, making the results more valid and generalizable
outside of the study. It also supports Klein, Wegman and Hunts findings that westbound flights are
easier to adjust to.
However chlo (2001) found a reduction in temporal lobe size and memory function in air crew who
regularly flew over seven different time zones. This looks at a more biological approach as it
challenges the views that jetlag is psychological as it shows organic structural changes and cognitive
reduction.
Stewart et al found that rats who have been emotionally stressed are not as good at resetting their
innate clocks using light as the zeitgeber, as rats that have not been emotionally stressed. This shows
that stress can make the SCN less responsive to light. This could explain why some people
experiences jetlag and others do not, as those who do may find flying stressful. However this study
lacks validity as rats have a different physiological makeup to humans, meaning the results found
from rats cannot be generalised to humans and how they behave.

The Benefits Of Technology In The Work Environment
Technology is a tremendous benefit nowadays within the work environment. Each technological
advancement has been created in order to facilitate the work environment and has led us to become
more efficient with the things we do. Because of it, the office environment is no longer the same as
yesterday; it has made the general convenience of our personal lives more accessible in the sense that
we no longer have to invest so much time in the work that we do. Time management and investment
has been optimized, therefore, the efforts put into every day tasks have been reduced. For example,
within the design studio, technological tools such as a smart board improves the way people meet and
share ideas. Essentially, this tool allows users to save and print notes, collaborate documents, share
information and runs video conferencing across distances. Rather than having to print an important
design for a presentation, students and faculty can visually obtain the attention of any audiences and
simply e mail notes to participants and share the work digitally. Some of the ways in which
technology has modified and improved the modern workplace are in an increase in productivity,
communication, and cost efficiency. First and foremost, technology allows us to be more efficient in
the things we do and reduce the amount of labor and time we invest to do something. Take for
example, a car or any type of vehicle. These modes of transportation are now readily available and are

There are some traits which constitute a good manager, however being a good manager is not

leader and manager. The ability to be an effective manager and enable individuals under their

will be similar to those you utilized when approaching Sharon, however in order for the

need to get her team and all the tasks assigned before responding. She will also get the policies

First of all, there are four provisions in the SOX whistleblower that must strictly be adhered,
especially when implementing the policies. First, any employee reporting any SOX violations must be
provided with protection against any employment termination, and must be provided with a legal
remedy for wrongfully discharged employees. Also, publicly traded companies must have and

The Memory System Essay example
Memories are creative recollections of past experiences that are unique to each individual. They define
us and give us our identity. Memories are a collection of information, which at one time was new to
us, and as we learned and progressed, that information became stored as memory. The main fact to
memory is that practice and repetition is a key asset to making the brain encode the information as
memory. When the brain encodes this information it is stored, waiting to be retrieved. When we
memorize something, it is stored for a certain amount of time in the brain, the more we recall this
information the more familiar we become with it, making it easier to remember and recall later in life.
The process of memory is still a mystery, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While yet it is the most complex process neuroscience has ever tried to define. Most theorists believe
that the brain encodes information in two different types, motor skills memory and factual memory.
Motor skills memory is the memorization of functions like running, walking, or eating. While factual
memory is associated with the memorization of telephone number, names, places, and experiences.
Some theorists believe this is the basic foundation to memories. Associated with these two types are
three levels, Sensory memory, Short term memory, and Long term memory. Sensory memory is the
level, which absorbs the things around us using the five main senses, sight, smell, touch, sound, and
taste. This level of memory is thought to only last a matter of seconds, and only moves on to the next
level if enough attention is given to the information. (Baddeley, 1976) If not enough attention is given
to the information it is ignored by the brain and forgotten. (Howe, 1983) The second level of memory
is the Short term memory. This level is believed to only have a capacity of 7 items, and have a
duration time of no more than thirty seconds. (Bjork, 1996) When memories in the short term are used
more and more it sends it to the next level, but again this is only done by practice or repetition. A way
for most people to remember more things, in the short term is called Chunking. This is where someone

Utilitarian is the school of thought based several theorist based on the end justify the means. Meaning
the moral thought is not viewed based on making the decision for outcomes. Utilitarian s base its
ethics on measuring the greatest good of options and choices that create a net happiness for society.
Ethics was seen based on the history of choices ad rules established in a political or social arena that
produced good or alleviated social pain. Once such is example is our human thought of bribing. In

He believe that the two could be addressed in the act utilitarian and the rule utilitarian. The act
utilitarian believe that the ethics is based on adding up the costs and the benefits of a choice that leads
to the net happiness of large groups. On the other hand the Rule utilitarian s states that the rule or
decision of one should not change the outcomes of many due the general rule. The utilitarian resolve
that ethics is the outcome of the act and not on rather it is right or wrong. The school of thought is that
every person matters and groups or decisions makers should make decision based on increasing
happiness; reducing unhappiness and not just on what is defined on what is individually ethically
wrong. It should support the net benefit to the greatest number of people.
Duty and Right (Audi)
The Duty and Right school of thought is discussed thru E. Audi in Determining Ethical Obligation. He
concluded that people should act within in their rights and with accord with others. Meaning behavior
or actions should not impede on the rights of others as one acts out his/her ability to express his
personal rights. And when one acts contrary to this he/she is violating the rights of others. The
literature goes on to express the rights of individuals and companies as a right to perform certain
actions that are morale and expressed in actions that are duty related. It further breaks individual on

Taking a Look at Title IX
Title IX was a law signed in to make sure than no one is excluded based on gender. When the law was
signed in, the numbers showed that it helped get women more involved in sports. However, with more
women involved in sports, men are still the favored gender and women are discriminated against.
Women are discriminated against in sports shown by fewer opportunities in high school and college
level sports, unequal treatment of women college athletes, and unfair opportunities and treatment to
women coaches. Title IX was signed in 1972 and states that No person in the United States shall, on
the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to
discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance
(Anderson). With the law being signed in, a 560% increase of participation at the college level and

interested in getting involved and playing and participating in sports but the lack of opportunity kept
females from getting involved at both levels. Given the opportunity to tryout for a team or even play
recreationally, women jump at the chance. For a school to meet the requirement for equal opportunity

Many employees see themselves as disconnected from workplace communication. In a recent report
done by Gallup, a research and performance management consulting company, 74 percent of
employees feel they are detached from receiving important information from their companies
(Dynamic Signal, 2017). The study also found that employees were not using their intranet within the
company, but the vast majority of employees do own and use their smartphones regularly.
Communication budgets are also stagnating and this might be due to an absence of understanding the
importance of superior internal communication in boosting productivity and profits. Many businesses
are unaware that poor internal communication and lack of information for employees is costing them
money.
Email is prevalent form of technological communication, but instant messaging and texting is a
growing form of communication in many workplaces. The amount of people who use instant
messaging at work went up from 31 percent in 2014 to 41 percent in 2017 (Herzlich, 2017). There is

Lego strategic analysis
Introduction:
This essay will consider firstly the position of Lego in relation to both the constraints of the internal
and external environment in the lead up to 2004. The essay will then go on to consider the position of

Strengths
Lego s key strengths may be seen as coming from both its brand recognition and its ability to use
innovative technology without moving away from the company s core values. Whilst there are many
other competitors in the toy or children s entertainment market Lego remains the brand of choice in
the field of construction toys despite the fall of other long term historical brand such as Meccano (V A
2010) and the rise of alternative substitute products such as video games (BBC News 2004). As the
case study indicates despite the traditional nature of the Lego offering the company has a strong
association with contemporary IT, design and manufacturing systems which help to make the product
both more durable as well as helping to reduce manufacturing costs thus making the field of
technology as key strength for the business.
Weaknesses
Lego s key weakness in the run up to 2004 may be seen as two fold. Firstly the company has failed in
a key area of the understanding of marketing in regard to understanding the needs of their customers
which may be seen as the focal point of the marketing concept (Brassington and Pettitt 2007). This
can be clearly seen in the role out of the

Analysis Of The Book Joyas Voladoras By Published...
In the book Joyas Voladoras by published editor Brain Doyle, Doyle begins talking about humming
birds. The heart of a humming bird, and its physical aspects. Doyle then elaborates on the title that it
translates to flying jewels, which the first explorers named them. Doyle is talking about life, the center
of all living things life, the heart and the different aspects of the heart. The memory that can be stored
there, the heartbeats, the size and even how a heart can be broken. Doyle presents his ideas differently
but causes the reader to connect emotionally, factually, and fairly personally.
Doyle takes a different approach on this essay for the beginning, he makes a move on the reader.
Doyle provides the reader with the assumption that the short essay will cover hummingbirds. Leading
to the effect of grabbing the attention of different types of readers, ones who are interested in
humming birds or readers who know little and are just curious. Doyle states consider the hummingbird
for a long moment (147). Doyle s presentation of the beginning of his essay now affected specific
readers, it pulled in readers from an animal interest. Providing readers with the assumption that while
reading this essay they should consider the hummingbird, and causes them to imagine a hummingbird
for a moment. This move works in the text because the reader s focus is pin pointed to a specific topic
from the beginning, and from that intro Doyle explains in later sentences facts about the

Gram Stain Lab Report
Purpose: The purpose of a Gram Stain procedure is to distinguish bacteria into two fundamental
groups of cells. There are the Gram positive cells and the Gram negative cells. By staining the cells
either violet or red, we can see the two types and their arrangements on the smear. Theory and
Background: 1. After swabbing some microbes from my cheek, I spread the bacterial smear on the
slide. In order to make them stick to the slide, I hold it near a heat source so they can attach. Then I
flood crystal violet on the smear. The color of violet binds to the Gram positive cell membranes and to
the outer membrane of Gram negative. After waiting about a minute for the dye to be stain both cells
violet, iodine is added to form a strong bond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of them were in short chains. I also notices that the Gram negative cells, which were stained red,
are rod shaped. They were spread out across the slide and did not seem to cluster. Conclusion: 1. After
viewing the end result of the Gram Stain, I saw that the Gram positive bacterial cells were stained
violet, while the Gram negative cells were stained red. In the mixed culture under the microscopes, I
was able to notice that the Gram positive cells, Enterococcus durans, were in clusters of short chains.
The Gram negative, Proteus mirabilis, were in rod shaped forms that were spread across the slide.
These cells did not seem to cluster. 2. I came to this conclusion of which cells were on my slide after I
compared my microbes to the physical and chemical characteristics of the microbes in the textbook.
The Gram positive characteristics in the Gram stain matched up with those of an Enterococcus durans
cell. There were some diplococcic or short chains across the smear. These cells also had the same
circular shape. I figured the Gram negative cells were Proteus mirabilis because of the rod shaped
cells that were spread across the slide

Conflict Between India And Pakistan
Conflict in Kashmir has been both devastating and ongoing since the Partition of India and Pakistan in
1947. The conflicts themselves arose from Partition, stemming from the religious dichotomies
between Hindus and Muslims. The question is, was this religious conflict a result of impending and
inevitable religious tensions in pre Partition India, or does it stem primarily from British manipulation,
disorganization, and negligence in the withdraw of the British Empire? While there were pre existing
tensions among religious groups in India, it was not until British occupation that these tensions were
amplified and manipulated. While the conflict cannot be solely attributed to either preexisting
religious tensions or British mishandling of policies, the catalyst for violence can be attributed to a
combination of both factors. In an effective power play, the British yoked the differences among
Indians in an unprecedented manner. This would act as the platform for a legacy of ongoing violence
and discord among people that once lived harmoniously together. To fully understand the nature of the
ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan in Kashmir, it is necessary to understand the relationship
between British manipulation and the differences within the Indian population. By examining the way
in which British power influenced the existing perceptions of these differences, one can attempt to
understand the dividing (rather than coexisting) diversities. Additionally, the conflicts

Crohn s Disease Analysis
Crohn s Disease is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). It is a disease that causes inflammation in
the gastrointestinal tract. The gastrointestinal tract includes the oral cavity, esophagus, liver, stomach,
small intestine, terminal ileum, large intestine/colon, rectum, and anus. Crohn s Disease affects
thousands of people in America. Crohn s disease was first discovered in 1932 by three doctors named
Burrill Crohn, Leon Ginzberg, and Gordon D. Oppenheimer. The Crohn s Colitis Foundation of
America (2014) declared these doctors collected data from 14 patients with symptoms of abdominal
cramps, diarrhea, fever, and weight loss, which showed that the symptoms were not the result of
tuberculosis or any other known disease. They described a new disease entity, which was first called
regional ileitis, and later, Crohn s disease (p. 7). Even though Crohn s Disease was discovered over 80
years ago, there is no cure, but there is constantly more new information being found out about this
disease. There is no known cause of Crohn s Disease. Some key factors in the development of Crohn s
Disease are genes, the immune system, and environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This disease can be overwhelming physically, emotionally, and financially. Crohn s Disease is very
unpredictable so those who live with it have to be careful from day to day and make sure to listen
closely to their bodies. According to the Crohn s Colitis Foundation of America (2014) living with this
disease can also be very expensive. Direct medical costs include expenses for hospitalizations,
physician services, prescription drugs, over the counter drugs, skilled nursing care, diagnostic
procedures, and other healthcare services. Indirect costs are the value of lost earnings or productivity.
Indirect costs also include the value of leisure time lost (p.19). However, the good thing is that patients
can still lead a happy and productive

Factors Of The Force Reduction Factor From The Statistical...
4.6.2 Krawinkler and Nassar (1992)
A relationship was developed for the force reduction factor derived from the statistical analysis of 15
western USA ground motions with magnitude between 5.7 and
7.7 (Krawinkler and Nassar, 1992).
C is constant which is dependent on period (T) and α which is the strain hardening parameter of the
hysteretic model and a and b are regression constants.
4.6.3 Miranda and Bertero (1994)
The equation for reduction factor introduced by Miranda and Bertero (1994) was obtained from a
study of 124 ground motions recorded on a wide range of soil conditions. The soil conditions were
classified as rock, alluvium and very soft sites 41 characterized by low shear wave velocity. A 5% of
critical damping was assumed. The expressions for the period dependent force reduction factors Rµ
are given by
Where is calculated from different equations for rock, alluvium and soft sites as shown below:
Where, T1 is the predominant period of the ground motion. The latter corresponds to the period at
which the relative velocity of relative velocity of a linear system with 5% damping maximum within
the entire period ranges.
4.6.4 Vidic et al. (1994)
The reduction coefficients Rµ calculated by Vidic et al. (1994) were approximated by a bilinear curve.
In the short period range, the reduction factor increases linearly with the period from 1.0 to a value
that is almost equal to

Religion In Higher Education
Introduction/ Historical significance Throughout the years there s been a tremendous change in the
collegiate way of living. The American college life as we know it simulated the swinging of a
pendulum in a deep curve. In the colonial days practices such as loco parentis was prevalent in higher
education institutions. Religion was also a huge part in higher education as well as campus life.
Extracurricular activities came to the surface as students began to form their own organizations and
identities. The integration of extracurricular activities into academic programs was quite the challenge
in the early colonial days. Many leaders of higher education began to have a change of mind
concerning the expansion of extracurricular activities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Has it been restored? Although higher education institutions are now considered secular, this was not
the case in the early colonial age. Jacobsen and Jacobsen (2012) mentioned that the three stages of
campus religion in the history of American higher education could presumably be split into the
following three stages: Protestant, Privatized and Multiform (p.2). At the time of the Protestant age,
religion and morality (character formation) were paramount to higher education institutions. At the
time of the Privatized age, religion was commonly shifted into the private scope of personal choice as
learning and teaching began to target impartiality and practicality. The third section (Multiform) is the
current age we live in. In this current age there are many sorts of religions that are prominent in
cultural discourse. Jacobsen and Jacobsen (2012) observed that, religion s return has been facilitated
by several broad developments within higher education, including new emphases on multiculturalism,
professional studies, and student centered

The Pathetic Fallacy in Camus The Stranger and Yoshimoto s Kitchen English A1 Higher Level World Literature Paper 1 Ojiugo Nneoma UCHE Candidate Number: 1415 068 1480 Words May 2010 In Camus The Stranger, and Yoshimoto s Kitchen, both authors use the literary technique of pathetic fallacy a branch of personification which gives to the weather and physical world, human attributes. In both texts, this technique enriches the narratives both aesthetically and in terms of meaning by telling the inner emotions of the characters. However, while in Kitchen, the pathetic fallacy is employed throughout the text, in The Stranger, it takes centre stage only at the most crucial point in the book with Meursault, the protagonist killing ... The glittering night in this case is thankfully left alone to ring with all its positive connotations; without the show spoiling, depressing adjective lonely (6) or its companions. With the reoccurrence of death, loss and with them, sorrow, Mikage says: I watched the gloomy clouds of the orange of the sunset spreading across them in the western sky. Soon, the cold night would descend and fill the hollow in my heart (56). Scenery which in better circumstances would have been a beautiful sunshine and the coming of a peaceful night, become gloomy and cold. Thus, the spreading and descen[t] are not really of the sunset, or of the night, but of the sorrow that comes with loss. With the reappearance of hope in the final cycle, the pathetic fallacy is both a reflection on the past, as well as an evidence of tenacious hope. Mikage says: The moon shone down from high above, crossing the sky, erasing the stars in its path. It was full. I watched it go behind a cloud, completely hidden, and re emerge (94). Stars usually have a positive connotation as they hold light in the sea of the night s darkness However, in this scene, there is a seeming contradiction as they are eras[ed] (96). This is however merely seeming because with the full moon, an atmosphere more positive than that of stars in a dark night is created. The moon leaves a bright ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Oresteia Oresteia The Issue of Justice in Aeschylus Eumenides The concept of justice is manifested through the three plays of Aeschylus Oresteia. The old tradition of justice, the private blood feud, caused an ungoverned succession of violent acts that spiralled uncontrollably. Aegisthus, Clytemnestra s lover, is introduced in Agamemnon; he desires vengeance for the plot contrived by Agamemnon s father (Ag: 1605 1611).1 Neither Agamemnon nor Aegisthus took part in this plot and yet as the chorus explains (Ag: 755 6) But ancient Violence longs to breed, new violence comes when its fatal hour comes, The justice system of this period demanded that one avenge the death of a family member, this can be seen in The Libation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the violent acts of reprisal do not end with Agamemnon. With this act comes a twist within the traditional system of justice. In The Libation Bearers, Orestes must choose to avenge his father s murder. The twist comes in that by avenging his father, Orestes will be committing matricide, a crime revolting to the gods and especially to the Furies. Orestes is placed in a no win situation; he must avenge his father or else be plagued by (Lib: 285 6) .................leprous boils that ride the flesh, their wild teeth gnawing the mother tissue, Unfortunately, the same fate awaits him if he commits matricide, thereby avenging his father. Orestes chooses the latter and is besieged by the hounds of mother s hate. (Lib: 1055 6). Through this sequence of murderous events, Aeschylus demonstrates the complexity and futility of the blood feud as a system of justice. There are no winners, and the cycle of violence does not end. Thus, this cycle of vengeance is not justice. In the Eumenides, Aeschylus manifests a new system of justice for the more civilised times. Orestes, plagued by the Furies, turns to Apollo (Eum: 88 90) Lord Apollo, you know the rules of justice know them well. Now learn

  • 7. Racism Is An Unequivocal Problem Throughout Australian... You can t delete racism. It s like a cigarette. You can t stop smoking if you don t want to, and you can t stop racism if people don t want to. But I ll do everything I can to help. According to UWS, one in five people living in Australia have experienced racist abuse. Nearly half of all Australian residents from a culturally and linguistically diverse background have experienced racism at some time in their life. According to FYA, approximately seven in ten teenagers have experienced racism throughout their life. The question still remains: does the preservation of culture, community and the environment depends on us? Absolutely. The culture of Australia in my opinion is the main aspect of this entire statement. I believe this is evident throughout the strong messages Randa Abdel Fattah states in her speech and, the everlasting words from the powerful speech Wei Li and Me. To begin with, racism is an unequivocal problem throughout Australian society. The essence of racism is one ethnic community believing they have superiority over another community or culture, and some of it is just ignorance. With Australia today being a multiethnic society, racism has been a part of our community for a very long time. For years and years, the depiction of the whites being superior over the Indigenous has happened all throughout Australia. Racial abuse in Australia has been recently streamed worldwide by passengers on public transport, videoing white Australians verbally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. An Aesthetic Experience To have an aesthetic experience there are two criteria that need to be met. The first is paying close attention to intrinsic features. The second is that the object we focus on must be viewed as worthy of our attention. An example from the book of an object being viewed as valuable is on page 58. Young children will pick weeds and think they are just as beautiful as flowers because they do not see a difference. As they get older they begin to see what is held at a higher value in society (p.58). I see this at work when children bring me grass or rocks to hold onto because they see them as special. Most of the girls only pick things with color, so they can kind of tell the difference. During the spring one of our teachers was admiring a large bloom on the hydrangea bush. An older student then decided to pick it and bring it to the teacher. This upset the teacher because that flower was not meant for the kids to pick, but this shows how children understand and copy the ideas of adults. From the book I learned that the most common way of assessing a child s maturity level in the 1940 s was to look at how well they could draw a picture of a person (p.58). I can see this as a realistic way of assessing young students. However, as you get older I don t think this would work as well. I am very bad at imagining things so I would have a difficult time conjuring up a picture of a person in my mind to draw. I am also not very good at drawing and when I draw people they are mostly ... • 10. What Was The Impact Of The Great Awakening Throughout the course of human history, religious movements have been a reoccuring theme, from the Chartist movement to the advent of scientology. They are brought about by a variety of reasons, and no reason is completely determining of how the movement affected the people around it more than another. By 1763, with the end of the Seven Years War, liberal political ideas such as republicanism and liberalism were taking root in the colonists mind; what these two philosophies shared most in common was that they were breaking away from the conventional political jurisdiction. Thus, this brought about a wave of anti secularization in which the already ultra religious colonists became even more religious in a movement known as the Great Awakening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A key aspect that caused the American Revolution was people not only losing faith in their mother country of England, but not caring to obey the rules and laws that England imposed upon them, causing a lack of respect for England s authority. This was brought about by the Navigation Acts, but also by the ideals that were brought about in the Great Awakening. People started becoming more bold and revolutionary, rethinking everything that they held to be true. There were certain political concepts that criticized the social hierarchies of colonial society, and eventually, this led to criticizing religious norms, which led to criticizing norms of all kinds, from what religion meant to oneself to how much authority of a government overseas really possessed over the colonists. However, the Great Awakening, while doing many benefits, also lead to some consequences for certain groups. The church and its associated clergy became less important as people started to believe that they could rely on their own beliefs. Colonists had their own religious power right in their hands, rather than in the hands of the Church of England. • 14. The Main Problems With The Constitution Felix Amza Professor Omowale POS1041 Due 06/23/2015 Project Question Nr. III One of the main problems with the constitution is what some may argue that the role of the president was not very thought of and linked to the constitution, therefore jeopardizing the nation to a dysfunctional and dangerous presidency. Throughout the history of American government, there have been a couple presidencies which have managed to gain high power and disregard the wellbeing of the nation, behave inappropriately and even unconstitutional. A good example of what some argue to have been a bad presidency, would be the case of George W. Bush, which on different occasions, he thought it would be suitable to disapprove of democracy and legal norms, by acting in ways such as; ordering government representatives to bypass statues and treaties, not allowing congressional oversight and jump into unwanted actions such as starting the war with Iraq which was not favored in the Congress. Normally the constitutions contains systems in place that should be able to counterattack such actions and behaviors, like the famous division of power and checks and balances . As the government of America is divided into three powers; the executory, judiciary and legislative, the system of checks and balances gives the three divisions of government the power of checking upon each other and ability of taking action when there is an unconstitutional act from one s side. The system of checks and balances may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. King Henry V Character Analysis Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce good leaders. However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is acclaimed as the dynastic successor to England. Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the Dauphin. With some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place as the French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words even as a young king. King Henry s conduct causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality, impartiality, and authority cause him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be a just ruler. When Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as possible, and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry becomes a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important morals for a ruler such as humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age. Henry shows a glimpse of his humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle. Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2). By addressing the soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as far as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they respond as motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold his/her head higher than his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more popular when he/she considers all people equally. Also, Henry is loved by the Church for his piety and other morals. As the Bishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of Ely discuss the bill about to be passed which would tax the church, the Bishops mention that Henry V is full of grace and fair reward. / And a true lover of the Church (1.1.24 25Whn Henry gains piety after his father s ... This would have happened if we only disagreed over such matters and not dissented. In the Decline of Radicalism, by Daniel J. Boorstin, he asserts that disagreement is the life blood of democracy, dissension is its cancer and that dissent is negative word. Boorstin also claims that disagreement produces debate , which is true, but could have all conflicts been solved with diplomacy? Dissent is when you revolt and you fight back against voices that try to drown out yours. History shows that dissent is the true baseline of democracy. In the Civil Rights movement, would talking about racism, segregation, and oppressive laws have changed a thing? No, it took dissent to progress forward. It took protesting in the streets, it took illegal action and subsequently getting arrested for it. Disagreement would have not push America forward, dissent did, does, and will. Discussion is bred from disagreement, according to the author, but does discussion work? Discussion and diplomacy are also foundations of democracy. Debate and nonviolence are cornerstones of how our government works. With it, we avoid a lot of conflict and we can manage to find a compromise in coordination with other parties. Though, you have to ask yourself this question: does discussion always work? If we talked with Great Britain about seceding from their empire, would we even be our own country? We dissented and fought for our independence. Likewise, in the American Civil War, it would be completely unacceptable if we compromised on slavery. We fought so human beings could have basic rights, and there would be no way we could talk the South into abolishing slavery. Diplomacy is beneficial to democracy, but the truth is that without dissenting democracy would not exist at all. Boorstin writes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is Hans Denck Concerning True Love Concerning True Love This work is written by Hans Denck in 1527 and it serves like a mystical, yet systematic description of certain Anabaptist beliefs. Firstly, he speaks of how love, true love, is a spiritual gift with God being the perfect example of love in Jesus Christ. No one, Denck says, can love or even know love without first accepting Christ into their hearts. Denck also utilizes his theory of love to explain what is meant by the new law or new covenant in Scripture. While followers of God were once chained by the Law, Christians are now liberated from the Law because of Christ s death and resurrection. In the unrelenting expansion of the Roman Empire, Caesar s Commentarii de Bello Gallico accounts the engagements of the Gallic Wars, alongside his personal intrigue of Gallic people. Yet, this work makes use of and conveys anthropological reports of a people approaching subjugation by Rome, the Gauls. Furthermore, Asad s Introduction; Barlow s Noble Gauls and their other in Caesar s Propaganda ; G. Therefore, I contend the Bellum Gallicum, presents as a didactic text―in regards to Caesar, who propels the Stoic theory of cultural maturation, informed by the pseudo scientific principles of earlier philosophers, namely, Posidonius and Seneca the Younger. Odysseus differs from his men in his ability to look ahead to the possible outcome and consequences of certain actions. To begin with, one must comprehend the essence of euthanasia and morally permissible to follow the arguments in this debate. According to the Oxford Dictionary, euthanasia is the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma . Comparing Dorian Gray And Neil Jordan s Interview With A Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray and Neil Jordan s Interview with a Vampire are gothic narrations that incorporate the themes of sensuality and hedonism. Although the texts do not contain any explicit statements of homoeroticism, the suggestive narration, allusions and imagery, camera angles and music highlight the homoerotic feelings between men. While Wilde does not mention any homosexual acts explicitly, the element of homoeroticism is described within the competition for Dorian s attention. Dorian is described through allusions to be likened to Adonis; a creature who looks as if he were made of ivory and rose leaves. (Lord Henry Wotten) Adonis, a representation of youthful idealism is a symbolic gesture of Dorian s youthful sensuality. Lord Henry and Basil Hallward praise Dorian s youthful demeanour, Basil commenting as long as I live, the personality of Dorian Gray will dominate me. Dickens was able to incorporate his experience into his novel Great Expectations when he describes the character Pip and how he wants to become a gentleman (Gilmore 576 582). Furthermore, Gilmore adds an important argument when he talks about the Victorian age and how people may be able to work themselves up to higher classes but never manage to become equals to those who were born a gentleman . Classes of that time were slowly merging together and this is the real reason why Pip was able to reach his status of a gentleman in the end. However, people of that time were still aware of the discrepancy between classes and were afraid of losing their status as wealthy and understood people of upper class. Pip s guardian Mr. Jaggers once claims that you have to have a certain education, knowledge and behavior in order to become accepted as a member of the upper class, It is considered that you must be better educated in accordance with your altered position, and that you will be alive to the importance and necessity of at once entering on that advantage (Dickens 110). The sleep wake cycle is a circadian rhythm that repeats itself every 24 hours. However these can become desynchronised, resulting in a disruption of your biological rhythm. It also supports Klein, Wegman and Hunts findings that westbound flights are easier to adjust to. However chlo (2001) found a reduction in temporal lobe size and memory function in air crew who regularly flew over seven different time zones. This looks at a more biological approach as it challenges the views that jetlag is psychological as it shows organic structural changes and cognitive reduction. Stewart et al found that rats who have been emotionally stressed are not as good at resetting their innate clocks using light as the zeitgeber, as rats that have not been emotionally stressed. This shows that stress can make the SCN less responsive to light. This could explain why some people experiences jetlag and others do not, as those who do may find flying stressful. Some theorists believe this is the basic foundation to memories. Associated with these two types are three levels, Sensory memory, Short term memory, and Long term memory. When the law was signed in, the numbers showed that it helped get women more involved in sports. However, with more women involved in sports, men are still the favored gender and women are discriminated against. Women are discriminated against in sports shown by fewer opportunities in high school and college level sports, unequal treatment of women college athletes, and unfair opportunities and treatment to women coaches. Title IX was signed in 1972 and states that No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance (Anderson). With the law being signed in, a 560% increase of participation at the college level and 990% increase at the high school level ( Title IX Myths and Facts ). This shows that women are interested in getting involved and playing and participating in sports but the lack of opportunity kept females from getting involved at both levels. Given the opportunity to tryout for a team or even play recreationally, women jump at the chance. For a school to meet the requirement for equal opportunity under Title IX it must have Proportionality. • 43. Importance Of Disconnection In Workplace Communication Upon your request, I have researched communication in the workplace for the organization and its upcoming projects. The knowledge gathered and discussed in this document could possibly be applied to our organization and the new project. This document will outline disconnection in workplace communication, leadership styles in a workplace, huddles and debriefings, emails and Instant message in a workplace, and motivation of employees. Many employees see themselves as disconnected from workplace communication. In a recent report done by Gallup, a research and performance management consulting company, 74 percent of employees feel they are detached from receiving important information from their companies (Dynamic Signal, 2017). The study also found that employees were not using their intranet within the company, but the vast majority of employees do own and use their smartphones regularly. Communication budgets are also stagnating and this might be due to an absence of understanding the importance of superior internal communication in boosting productivity and profits. Many businesses are unaware that poor internal communication and lack of information for employees is costing them money. Email is prevalent form of technological communication, but instant messaging and texting is a growing form of communication in many workplaces. The amount of people who use instant messaging at work went up from 31 percent in 2014 to 41 percent in 2017 (Herzlich, 2017). There is also a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Analysis Of The Book Joyas Voladoras By Published... In the book Joyas Voladoras by published editor Brain Doyle, Doyle begins talking about humming birds. The heart of a humming bird, and its physical aspects. Doyle then elaborates on the title that it translates to flying jewels, which the first explorers named them. Doyle is talking about life, the center of all living things life, the heart and the different aspects of the heart. The memory that can be stored there, the heartbeats, the size and even how a heart can be broken. Doyle presents his ideas differently but causes the reader to connect emotionally, factually, and fairly personally. Doyle takes a different approach on this essay for the beginning, he makes a move on the reader. Doyle provides the reader with the assumption that the short essay will cover hummingbirds. Leading to the effect of grabbing the attention of different types of readers, ones who are interested in humming birds or readers who know little and are just curious. Doyle states consider the hummingbird for a long moment (147). Doyle s presentation of the beginning of his essay now affected specific readers, it pulled in readers from an animal interest. Providing readers with the assumption that while reading this essay they should consider the hummingbird, and causes them to imagine a hummingbird for a moment. This move works in the text because the reader s focus is pin pointed to a specific topic from the beginning, and from that intro Doyle explains in later sentences facts about the ... • 49. Gram Stain Lab Report Purpose: The purpose of a Gram Stain procedure is to distinguish bacteria into two fundamental groups of cells. There are the Gram positive cells and the Gram negative cells. By staining the cells either violet or red, we can see the two types and their arrangements on the smear. Theory and Background: 1. After swabbing some microbes from my cheek, I spread the bacterial smear on the slide. In order to make them stick to the slide, I hold it near a heat source so they can attach. Then I flood crystal violet on the smear. The color of violet binds to the Gram positive cell membranes and to the outer membrane of Gram negative. After waiting about a minute for the dye to be stain both cells violet, iodine is added to form a strong bond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of them were in short chains. I also notices that the Gram negative cells, which were stained red, are rod shaped. They were spread out across the slide and did not seem to cluster. Conclusion: 1. After viewing the end result of the Gram Stain, I saw that the Gram positive bacterial cells were stained violet, while the Gram negative cells were stained red. In the mixed culture under the microscopes, I was able to notice that the Gram positive cells, Enterococcus durans, were in clusters of short chains. The Gram negative, Proteus mirabilis, were in rod shaped forms that were spread across the slide. These cells did not seem to cluster. 2. I came to this conclusion of which cells were on my slide after I compared my microbes to the physical and chemical characteristics of the microbes in the textbook. The Gram positive characteristics in the Gram stain matched up with those of an Enterococcus durans cell. There were some diplococcic or short chains across the smear. These cells also had the same circular shape. I figured the Gram negative cells were Proteus mirabilis because of the rod shaped cells that were spread across the slide ... • 50. Conflict Between India And Pakistan Conflict in Kashmir has been both devastating and ongoing since the Partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. The conflicts themselves arose from Partition, stemming from the religious dichotomies between Hindus and Muslims. The question is, was this religious conflict a result of impending and inevitable religious tensions in pre Partition India, or does it stem primarily from British manipulation, disorganization, and negligence in the withdraw of the British Empire? While there were pre existing tensions among religious groups in India, it was not until British occupation that these tensions were amplified and manipulated. While the conflict cannot be solely attributed to either preexisting religious tensions or British mishandling of policies, the catalyst for violence can be attributed to a combination of both factors. In an effective power play, the British yoked the differences among Indians in an unprecedented manner. This would act as the platform for a legacy of ongoing violence and discord among people that once lived harmoniously together. To fully understand the nature of the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan in Kashmir, it is necessary to understand the relationship between British manipulation and the differences within the Indian population. By examining the way in which British power influenced the existing perceptions of these differences, one can attempt to understand the dividing (rather than coexisting) diversities. Additionally, the conflicts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The gastrointestinal tract includes the oral cavity, esophagus, liver, stomach, small intestine, terminal ileum, large intestine/colon, rectum, and anus. Crohn s Disease affects thousands of people in America. Crohn s disease was first discovered in 1932 by three doctors named Burrill Crohn, Leon Ginzberg, and Gordon D. Oppenheimer. The Crohn s Colitis Foundation of America (2014) declared these doctors collected data from 14 patients with symptoms of abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, and weight loss, which showed that the symptoms were not the result of tuberculosis or any other known disease. They described a new disease entity, which was first called regional ileitis, and later, Crohn s disease (p. 7). Even though Crohn s Disease was discovered over 80 years ago, there is no cure, but there is constantly more new information being found out about this disease. • 52. Factors Of The Force Reduction Factor From The Statistical... 4.6.2 Krawinkler and Nassar (1992) A relationship was developed for the force reduction factor derived from the statistical analysis of 15 western USA ground motions with magnitude between 5.7 and 7.7 (Krawinkler and Nassar, 1992). C is constant which is dependent on period (T) and α which is the strain hardening parameter of the hysteretic model and a and b are regression constants. 4.6.3 Miranda and Bertero (1994) The equation for reduction factor introduced by Miranda and Bertero (1994) was obtained from a study of 124 ground motions recorded on a wide range of soil conditions. The soil conditions were classified as rock, alluvium and very soft sites 41 characterized by low shear wave velocity. A 5% of critical damping was assumed. The expressions for the period dependent force reduction factors Rµ are given by Where is calculated from different equations for rock, alluvium and soft sites as shown below: Where, T1 is the predominant period of the ground motion. The latter corresponds to the period at which the relative velocity of relative velocity of a linear system with 5% damping maximum within the entire period ranges. 4.6.4 Vidic et al. • 53. Religion In Higher Education Introduction/ Historical significance Throughout the years there s been a tremendous change in the collegiate way of living. The American college life as we know it simulated the swinging of a pendulum in a deep curve. In the colonial days practices such as loco parentis was prevalent in higher education institutions. Religion was also a huge part in higher education as well as campus life. Extracurricular activities came to the surface as students began to form their own organizations and identities. The integration of extracurricular activities into academic programs was quite the challenge in the early colonial days. Many leaders of higher education began to have a change of mind concerning the expansion of extracurricular activities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Has it been restored? Although higher education institutions are now considered secular, this was not the case in the early colonial age. Jacobsen and Jacobsen (2012) mentioned that the three stages of campus religion in the history of American higher education could presumably be split into the following three stages: Protestant, Privatized and Multiform (p.2). At the time of the Protestant age, religion and morality (character formation) were paramount to higher education institutions. At the time of the Privatized age, religion was commonly shifted into the private scope of personal choice as learning and teaching began to target impartiality and practicality. The third section (Multiform) is the current age we live in. In this current age there are many sorts of religions that are prominent in cultural discourse. Jacobsen and Jacobsen (2012) observed that, religion s return has been facilitated by several broad developments within higher education, including new emphases on multiculturalism, professional studies, and student centered ...
