The Concept of Energy Intake and Expenditure in Sports...
Task 2 Describe (P3) or explain (M1) the concept of energy intake and expenditure in sports
performance.
The concept of energy intake and expenditure refers to the amount of calories per day that an
individual consumes, and is the chemical energy in foods which can be metabolized to produce energy
available to the body. As stated before energy is obtained from the foods we eat and is used to support
an individual s Basal Metabolic Rate, energy is measured in calories or joules as both units are very
small they are multiplied by 1,000 and referred to as kilocalories. Different foods provide us with
different amounts of energy, and the potential fuel sources available to exercising muscles are fats 1

The energy cost of football is estimated as being 16.4kcal per minute amounting to 1480 kcal for a 90
minute match. This therefore highlights that the individual needs post match fluid and food intake in
order to replace lost energy.
Task 3 Describe (P4), explain (M2) or analyse (D1) the importance of energy balance and their effect
on sports performance.
Energy is expended in a number of different ways such as the stated above; resting metabolic rate,
thermic effect of activity, thermic effect of feeding and adaptive thermogenesis. An individual s
energy balance is the balance of calories consumed through eating and drinking compared to calories
burned through physical activity, what an individual drinks and eat is energy in. what an individual
burns though physical activity is energy out. Body weight is maintained and stable in the state of
energy balance, the chemical bonds of carbohydrates, proteins and fats in food contain chemical
energy which is then transformed in the human body in multiple metabolic processes to cellular
energy, heat or stored energy. An individual s burns a certain number of calories just by breathing air
and digested food. They also burn a certain number of calories through their daily routine, an
important part of maintaining energy balance is the amount of physical activity an

Rigor Murtis Research Paper
The Stiff Truth About Rigor Mortis Growing up, I have always been intrigued by murder mysteries.
My favorite shows consisted of Criminal Minds, CSI, and NCIS. From watching these shows episode
after episode, I have become familiarized with the term Rigor Mortis . Rigor Mortis is referred to as
the third stage of death, where the muscles in the body contract leaving the body stiff for a period of
time. Rigor Mortis occurs shortly after death, usually within three to four hours when the cells lose
their oxygen supply. In order for muscles to contract, ATP is required. After death, ATP is no longer
produced leaving the muscles tense. The process begins while a muscle is relaxed in its resting state.
In the resting state, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This causes the muscles to stiffen making the deceased body go into the Rigor Mortis stage due to the
accumulation of acid in the muscle tissue. Rigor Mortis hits its peak state about twelve hours after a
person s death and slowly decreases over the next forty eight to sixty hours. Although Rigor Mortis
may seem like a reliable source to use when predating a time of death, it is not. It is not ideal because
of the large spans of time it encompasses. The windows can vary by as much as 24 hours and there are
also several factors that can severely impact the onset and timeline of Rigor Mortis (Dillion, Death
and Kinetics. ). Other factors which can alter the reliability of prediction based on Rigor Mortis is if:
the deceased person had an illness, the temperature of the atmosphere in which the body was
discovered, what the person s activities were before death, and the conditions in which the body was
found. Due to the great list of factors that can modify the prediction of time of death using Rigor
Mortis, I do not think it is a reliable source for doctors, detectives, or scientists to predict a time of

What Is The Difference Between The Ecosystem And Aquatic...
Ecosystem is a natural system consists of all the biotic component in a community interacting with
each other as well as with all the abiotic factors to form a stable and balanced system. Terrestrial
ecosystem which is land based ecosystem includes tundra, taiga, temperate deciduous forest, tropical
rain forest, grassland and desert. Aquatic ecosystem is the ecosystem in the water. It is an interacting
system of resources such as water and biota. Water acts as limiting factor that distinguishes aquatic
ecosystem from terrestrial ecosystem and results in differences from many aspects like size structure,
growth rate and nutrient stoichiometry.
Size structure between terrestrial ecosystem and aquatic ecosystem can be distinguished from pyramid
of both ecosystem. Aquatic ecosystem showed inverted pyramid of biomass. Pyramid of biomass,
showing the total dry weight and other suitable measure of the total amount of living matter. Seaweed
and kelp are producers in marine. In pyramid of biomass, producers biomass is least, and increases
towards the apex of the pyramid, thus making the pyramid inverted in shape while at the top of the
pyramid is carnivore, most of them are large in size and they will produce large quantities of biomass
such as shark, dolphin, squid and moray eels. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nutrient includes any substances that obtained from the environment and required by an organism to
develop like nitrogen and phosphorus but except oxygen, carbon dioxide and water. Nutrient
stoichiometry will affects all levels of the food web. For example, the stoichiometry (proportions) of
nutrients, especially nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), in many aquatic systems is changing as a result
of both increasing nutrient loads. An ecological stoichiometric approach is based on the transfer of
elements through the food web, not just the flow of carbon

The History And Social Impact Of The Circus Freak Show
The History and Social Impact of the Circus Freak Show Since it s humble beginning in the mid 16th
century, the circus and freak show act has been entertaining and horrifying people to this day;
however, in today s ultra sensitive society, how has the classic freak show evolved to be deemed
acceptable and be used to promote acceptance and positive views of people with abnormalities, rather
than viewing these people as freaks , as was the original purpose of the classic freak show ?
Popularized in the mid 16th century, the circus freak show became a common pastime in England.
People with deformities and disabilities began being treated less as humans, and more as sources of
interest and entrainment, and the crowds would gather to see these people exhibited. A notable early
display was that of conjoined twins Lazarus and Johannes Baptista Colloredo. As described by History
Magazine, Lazarus was thought to be quite handsome, appearing otherwise perfectly healthy, but for
his conjoined twin brother. Joannes Baptista protruded, upside down, from his brother s chest. He was
significantly smaller than Lazarus, and only his upper body and left leg visibly extended from his
brother s torso (Strange and Bizarre:). Based off this description it is no wonder why the brothers
became a popular exhibition at the court of King Charles I. Though the freak show was initially a
display for the upper class, it would not take long for people to see the profitability of these acts.

What Is The Critique Of Beck Scale For Suicide
Review and Critique of Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSS) I chose to review Beck Scale for
Suicide Ideation (BSS; Beck Steer, 1993). The BSS was developed from Beck and Steer s (1993)
clinical rating version The SSI which is a 19 item measurement that is used to assess an individual s
traits as it relates to suicidal thoughts. The BSS is the self report version is based on 21 items but only
19 of the items are used in scoring the test results. The test kit consists of an Administration and
Scoring Manual and a Record form. The Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation is a widely used instrument
to assess suicidality. Suicidal behaviors consist of but not limited to the planning for suicide, suicidal
ideation (thoughts of harming or killing oneself) and/or gestures.
Purpose and Nature of the BSS According to Beck and Steer (1991), the BSS was used to assess the
severity of adults and adolescent s suicidal ideation. The BSS is 21 item self report instrument used by
clinicians in a professional setting by assessing a patient s risk to commit suicide and bring to surface
characteristics of suicide. The BSS was birthed from the SSI to create a self report version that could
would measure the same as the SSI. As stated previously the BSS is a 21 item assessment that
measures the severity of suicidal ideation. The first 19 questions of the assessment address the patient
s wishes, attitudes, and plans for suicide (Beck Steer, 1991). The scoring for the assessment is 0 to 2

Barbie s Body Image And Its Negative Impact On Young Girls
Introduction
Barbie is one of the best selling dolls in the world. This doll often resembles role models to young
girls. What girl hasn t had a Barbie doll in their lifetime? It is not unusual that at least 99% of girls in
the population have or has had a Barbie. The main concern is with young girls up to the age of 10,
with the idea image that Barbie provokes to these young minds. It gives the idea you have to be thin to
be beautiful. Although, the thinness often resembles being unhealthy. The ultrathin image that Barbie
contributes to these young minds is a negative body image and unhealthy eating patterns (Dittmar,
Halliwell, Ive, 2006). In an exposure experiment three main questions were addressed: Do images of
Barbie have an immediate negative impact on girls body image? Does exposure to images of a doll
with more realistic body proportions result in the same detrimental effects? Is the impact of exposure
to Barbie images age related so that effects differ depending on school year group (grade level)?
(Dittmar, Halliwell, Ive, 2006, p. 283). These questions were used to further evaluate the effects that ...

damaging direct effects of decrease eating habits than those older. The impact Barbie had towards the
girls age 6 and a half and older was much smaller. Even though the older girls see Barbie doll as the
ideal body image for girls their age the fact of being a role model ends around age 7. They eventually

Mary Magdalen With The Smoking Flame Analysis
On the left we have Caravaggio, The Conversion of St. Paul, 1600, and on the right we have Georges
de la Tour, Magdalen with the Smoking Flame, 1640. These two paintings represent major movements
within art such as the influence of artists on one another, and the approach of religious paintings
during the seventeenth century. Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio was known for
introducing realism and drama by using theatrical lighting and gesture to Italian Baroque art.
Caravaggio s paintings were focused on religious matter commissioned for the Catholic Church.
Georges de la Tour was well known in his own time but then forgotten until well into the twentieth
century. His work consisted mostly of candlelit subjects, and he commissioned paintings for royal
aristocrats such as King Louis XIII and Henry II of Lorraine. George de la Tour is one of the most
important examples of the many artists during the seventeenth century who were greatly influenced by
the work of Caravaggio.

light source of the painting to the viewer, and putting the light source directly in the center of the
piece. In his painting, Mary Magdalen with the Smoking Flame, Georges goal was to create a calm,
reflective state of a follower of Christ. This painting shows Mary Magdalen, a repentive prostitute,
putting aside her jewels and rich clothing to meditate on mortality while looking into a flickering
flame. Georges creates subtle hints of religious meaning through items throughout the painting. The
skull sitting in her lap refers to morality and the vanity of human life, the books of scripture refer to
her following of Christ, and the scourge refers to the pain and suffering that Mary may have been
experiencing in the past or during her

Scarlet Williams Monologue
Hello, I am Scarlet Williams. Before I begin my wild story, let me further introduce myself. I am from
the beautiful city of Boston, Massachusetts, widely known throughout the world. I am an
extravagantly rich socialite thanks to my father, the notorious George Williams IV. My family s name
has been prominent in this city for quite some time now. My father s gorgeous white mansion lies
right in the middle of town, for he does enjoy showing off his belongings. The house contains
countless stunning rooms; however, the most mesmerizing would definitely be the White Escape , the
name my father gave to our party room. When a certain light hits the chandelier, the room transforms

I do not even know where to begin on the guest list. I tell Andrew I want my father to be impressed
with my first party and I need guests he will enjoy. Andrew s face lights up as he tells me I should
invite my father s favorite poets, for Andrew is obsessed with poetry and tells me he can help me with
the seating chart. I tell him what a brilliant idea that is. Andrew and I narrow the guest list down to
twelve poets: William Cullen Bryant, John Greenleaf Whittier, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel
Hawthorne, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Russell Lowell, Herman
Melville, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, and Emily Dickinson. I let
out a sigh of relief thinking the hard part is over but Andrew quickly informs me that some of the
poets have bitter rivals with each other and cannot be seated next to each other. He tells me not to
worry because he knows all their common interests. I smile as I tell him how thankful I am to have
him helping me. We decide the best kind of table is horseshoe shaped, leaving room for the
entertainment in the middle. We also decide to have four people on each side. Andrew and I decide to
start on one end of the table and work our way down. We decide Whitman should sit at the end of the
table next to Dickinson, for the two are both inspired by Emerson (Great, Loving). Andrew also
informs me that they both have had homosexual relationships (Dickinson s, Whitman). I will admit, I
am a bit shocked to hear that; however, I do not judge. I also remember my father telling me that they
both chose to be independent in their religions, refusing to practice it the way their parents did (Frye,
Kirk). Andrew and I both agree that Dickinson should sit next to Emerson, for not only did he inspire
her, but they are also both Unitarians and abolitionists (Emerson, Famous, Great, Martin). Andrew
then tells me that Thoreau should next to Emerson

Paper Towns Identity
In Paper Towns by John Green, I ve noticed the peculiar relationship between Margo and Quentin. I
believe that this symbolises two of the most important themes in the novel, being Identity and
exploration. Ever since Quentin and Margo found a dead body in a park together their friendship hasn
t been the same, then Margo disappears and leaves Quentin clues to find her or save her he and his
friends eventually skip graduation and explore the options these clues leave them along the way Green
develops his intense and sometimes complexly confusing themes.
When I was at the very beginning, I felt that the author clearly showed that even though Margo and
Quentin are next door neighbours and family friends, from when they were little, Margo has ... Show

So he agrees and they end up having a really great time. I believe that this is the beginning of the
theme exploration within the novel. Personally I believe that Margo Roth Spiegelman fits perfectly
into the song On the Road Again because she can t stop going places she s never gone before,
exploring possibilities and exploring herself in a way too. I do however think that Quentin has more of
an explorative spirit than Margo as he explores himself, his love for Margo, his friendships, the
country and Margo s mind all by following some clues. Both characters exploration develops
throughout the text as Quentin s goes from exploring a new flavour of nutrition bar to exploring his
own actions and feelings that he hasn t even given the smallest thought to over the past 17 years such
as his love for Margo Roth Spiegelman, and exploring new options such as he can actually be
someone else to not only others but himself he does t just have to be Margo s admirer. This is just like
what many teens are going through right now, maybe not in such a gigantic scale but there are so
many teens out there right now including my self who are exploring new horizons, such as tertiary

Modern Clothing Garments Is The Classic Hoodie
One of the most popular clothing garments is the classic hoodie. This sweater that has a hood also has
a drawstring that brings many benefits to the hoodie like keeping the wind off the ears. However, one
downfall to this beneficial hoodie drawstring occurs while washing it. Many individuals who own
hoodies have experienced the drawstring being pulled half way out in the washer due to the rotation
and motion while being washed. Attempting to re thread a hoodie drawstring is rather frustrating and
can take a length of time. Even with home remedies and other options to rethread the drawstrings, this
is still an existing issue among many households. A perfect solution is a unique tool that has the
flexibility needed to weave through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another flaw is that the string needs to be taken fully out of the hoodie. This makes the process longer
than it should. The next DIY solution uses a straw to re thread the drawstring in a hoodie. In order to
use this method, the string needs to be fully removed. Thorin Klosowski explains the steps to use this
method. After fully removing the string from the hoodie, place it within the straw and staple it in
place. Now take the straw, which has more flexibility than a coat hanger wire, and weave it back
through the drawstring path. Once again this method has flaws. Even though straws are common
household products, not every house has these on hand. Plus, if one is trying to fix their garment, why
would they put a staple through it in order to re thread the drawstring? The third DIY solution uses a
safety pin and is explained on Lifehacker by Patrick Allan. Once again with the drawstring fully
removed, attach the safety pin to the string by poking the pin through the material. Now that the pin is
attached, use this pin as a guide to feeding the string back through the material little by little. This
method requires a lot of time and patience and the string has to be fully removed. With the variety of
DIY solutions and the widespread pain of the drawstring coming out, few people have developed other
solutions. One solution, that already is patented approved, requires the entire drawstring to be
removed. According to the United States Patent

Many people have devices to help make their lives easier, whether it s a small difference or a large

of technology have a greater impact on our lives, for example, medical equipment. Ray Bradbury

Accent Modification Paper
Accent Modification and its Efficacy in Patients with Accents
Emily Barnett
Harding University of Searcy, Arkansas The goal of this research paper is to explore the specialty of
accent modification within the field of speech language pathology. This paper will define accent
modification and discuss its purpose among those receiving this elective therapy. Methods and
techniques for implementing accent modification, how effective these techniques are, how they are
used in accent modification, why accent modification is relevant in our world today, and how speech
science is related to accent modification will also be discussed.

Since one s intonation comes natural with their language and is not taught , it is helpful for those
trying to modify their accent to be able to visualize their own intonation patterns as opposed to
common intonation patterns of the accent they desire (Shoemaker, 1996). With the use of a specialized
module for a computerized speech laboratory (CSL) created by Dr. Agin with Kay Elemetrics Corp.,
Lincoln Park, NJ, differences in sentence intonation patterns among non native speakers can be
illustrated. One can speak into the system through a microphone and receive visual feedback regarding
their intonations as opposed to the standard intonations of the language (Shoemaker, 1996). This
visualization illustrates their pitch characteristics and intonation patterns, allowing the speaker to see
what changes they may need to make in pitch and intonation in order to further improve their accent.
Intonation is vital in languages at the sentence and conversation level in determining whether a
question is being asked or a statement is being made. For this reason, the computerized speech lab is
very beneficial to those learning to modify their accent among the non native population. As outlined
above, accent modification is a rapidly growing area in the field of speech language pathology, among
both regional and foreign accents.

Prom Night Experience
Prom night was supposed to be the best time of my life, hanging out with my friends, partying, going
to the late night fast food restaurant for food; all the normal things a teen is supposed to experience on
that special night. But for me, that night included a not so normal experience.
As a 16 years old African American male, I found myself driving down 380, a major highway in
Denton, with a car full of intoxicated Caucasian classmates. Because it was prom night, and 380 being
a major highway, cops were patrolling it stronger than ever.
I had driven a short distance from the fast food restaurant we had been at when I peered up in the car s
rear view mirror and got a glimpse of red and blue flashing lights. As I pulled over, my mind starting

because of a tail light being out.
Everyone else in the car was drunk, and really had no idea what was happening; and a couple of them
were even unconscious. I was driving that night because I had not been drinking, and decided for the
safety of everybody, it was best for me to drive. While waiting for the officer to come to the car, the
Philando Castile situation replayed in my mind many times as I watched the flashing lights in my
rearview mirror. The next second my eyes are blinded by the flashlight being pointed in my face as the
officer walked up to my window.
I was scared about what might happen next because at the time I only had

To What Extent Was Hitler Responsible For The Holocaust
Hitler used many ways to implement the holocaust. He was very cruel to jews and deprived them of
many rights. One of the things he did was relocate jews to ghettos. There were unsafe conditions in
the ghettos because they were dirty and there was not much cleanliness. Many things were illegal in
the ghettos including education and religious freedom. Most jews either died of disease, or were killed
in death camps, or many killed themselves because of the horrible conditions. Hitler wanted the Jews
to suffer.
Two major ghettos, Warsaw and Lodz were the biggest and msot dirty and packed ghettos. Warsaw
held at least 400,000 jews children and adults. Lodz carried about 160,000 jews. Both ghettos were
crowded many jews slept in the streets and had nothing of their own possesions, they survived in very
bad living conditions. Jews were not allowed to leave these cities , this was an order by hitler so these
cities had gates up and guards to ensure they didn t leave. They had to buy food and were only
allowed a certain amount of food and the only things they could get is bread and potatoes. The

Poison Called Bacillus Thuringitesis ( Bt ) Toxin
poison called Bacillus Thuringitesis (BT) toxin in every cell and every bite of it. Although the biotech
seed companies like Monsanto claim that their genetically modified organisms (GM) are harmless,
that s not what the independent scientists are finding in their researches (Smith, 2015, n.p). The
gastrointestinal (GI) symptomatology affecting autistic kids appear to resemble the same problems in
animals fed with GMO food. In both, the inflammation in the GI tract increased permeability, caused
the imbalances in the intestinal bacteria and the leaking gut effect . The GMO grains modified food
was introduced in 1990 to feed farm animals and increase the productivity and resistance to diseases
supposedly. In contrast, an increased of the incidence of ileitis on animals increased proportionally
with the introduction of these products. This thesis was corroborated when the affected animals
switched to non GMOs nutrition and all signs and symptoms disappeared, digestion improved,
antibiotic treatment of the animals was not necessary causing improvement of health and milk
production. Non GMOs nutrition increased also the conception rate in the animal and even the
behavioral issues documented like agitation, irritability, nervousness and antisocial behaviors
improved and /or disappeared too, concluding that GMOs diet was affecting animals health and
natural and organic nutrition cured them and actually, improved productivity of the animals.

Viola and Orsino in Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
In William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night there are several relationships that develop throughout the
play. Among the many characters whose interaction and misunderstanding become the core of the
plot, Viola and Orsino have the most significant relationship. The way they interact with one another
causes the complex conflict of the play, and as the conflict comes to be more complex the two
characters turn from strangers to friends and then to lovers.
In the first Act Viola and Orsino s interaction is on the level of two complete strangers. From the

off and says that there is no stronger love than he has for Olivia, but the conversation in itself is a big
step in their development into friends from complete strangers. The statement also leaves the audience
a back door to a possible aspiring love relationship.
In the fifth and final act the love between Orsino and Viola is now possible because viola reveals that
she is in fact a woman and not the male page Cesario.
Twelfth Night In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, it is clearly evident that the fluctuation in attitude to
the dual role and situation and tribulations imposed upon the character of Viola/Cesario ends up in a

Asexual reproduction is a style of reproduction which offspring are formed by a single organism, and
inherit the genes of one parent only; unlike sexual reproduction, which requires the genes from two
parent organisms in order to create an offspring, asexual reproduction occurs when a single organism.
This causes the offspring to almost a duplicate of the one parent it inherits its genes from. Asexual
reproduction is done externally and it commonly used by sea creatures like seahorses,
Parthenogenesis, Copperheads, coral, sea anemones and starfish. It is also used in some plants like for
example strawberries, potatoes and onions. And it is used by decomposers like fungi and bacteria.
Asexual reproduction is common among living things and takes a variety of forms.
Vegetative propagation Description Examples
Lignotuber A starchy, woody swelling of the root crown which some plants have adapted it provides
protection against destruction of the plant stem, such as by fire, it also serves to help contain water for
very dry conditions. The crown contains buds from where new stems sprout from, it also acts as a
container which stores of starch, that can support a period of growth in the absence of photosynthesis.
It is found commonly in Australian flora, in resilience to the high possibility of bush fires that occur
annually and the high humidity and heat rates. In Australia this feature is found in the eucalyptus tree,
marginata(Jarrah), most mallees, and many Banksia species.

I Attended The Christmas With The Mormon Tabernacle Choir
I attended the Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle choir, Orchestra at Temple Square and Bells on
Temple Square. The event was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints conference
center building. The building holds approximately 21,000 people. This particular musical performance
was for Christmas time. Every year they feature a special guest. Usually it is an famous American
singer or story teller, but this year it was more of a cultural experience. This year their guest was
Ronaldo Villazon. Mr. Villazon was born in Mexico city, and is know for one of the most unique and
compelling tenor voices today. He brought a very different flare to this performance. This show is
presented in December around Christmas time. All of the songs sung, and reading that were read had
to do with the Christmas season and Christ. Many familiar songs were sung and played by the
orchestra such as I Saw Three Ships, Carol of the Drum, Miniature Overture from the Nutcracker, We
Three Kings, Holidays at Home and more. Rolando Villzon sung song from his culture. He sang
Cancion para la Navidad, Il eat ne, le diving Enfant, O souverain, O juge, O pere, from Le Cid, and
more. He is a christen but is not a Mormon. It was neat to see the two different, but very similar
cultures unite and mesh so well together. There was a huge choir made up of men and women that
sung along with him. A part from the singers there were many talented musicians. There were drums,

Politics Cultures of Africa
Ever since British geologists first discovered diamonds in Sierra Leone s jungles in the 1930 s,
diamonds have been a key factor in the bloody conflict that has ravaged this small West African
country. In his novel, Blood Diamonds, Greg Campbell captures the heart wrenching story of one man
s encounter with the Revolutionary United Front (RUF), a rebel group in Sierra Leone, infamous for
their brutal tactics of mass rape, torture, looting, and excruciations. But their signature and most
documented form of persecution amputation:

Making up about 4 to 5 percent of the global output. (xxiii)
The world s biggest diamond mining and marketing company, De Beers Consolidated Mines of South
Africa, announced in February 2000, that it will no longer buy any diamonds sourced from a region
controlled by an armed group opposed to the legitimate authority in a country
(http://web.amnesty.org). According to a report by Partnership Africa Canada (P.A.C.), upwards of
50,000 [have been] killed, half the population displaced, and more than two thirds of its already
severely limited infrastructure destroyed. Meanwhile, the underground trade of illicit diamonds is
booming. Conflict diamonds are valued between 4 percent and 15 percent of the world total and
generate annual trade revenues of $7.5 billion (Johnson).
According to De Beers s, conflict diamonds are minded or stolen by rebels who are in opposition to
the legitimate government of a country (Campbell 127). With this definition of conflict diamonds ,
DeBeers has no only proved itself with linguistic maneuverability but trade maneuverability as well. It
is no secret that the industry, after all, is bigger than the company alone and in fact is critical to the
economies of at least four nations. (Campbell 127) DeBeers has taken steps to ensure that some of
their diamonds were conflict free with the demand for action so apparent. DeBeers first step in the
right direction resulted in a devastating blow to earnings, a net loss

Microsoft s Xbox Gaming System
Microsoft first released its Xbox gaming system in 2001, and developed new versions of the Xbox in
2005 with the Xbox 360, and in 2013 with the Xbox One.
Microsoft is one of three companies that currently dominate the console hardware market. These three
companies are Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. The Microsoft Xbox One controls about 29% of the
market share, while Sony PlayStation 4 controls 51%, and Nintendo Wii 20% (Duran 2015). With
technology changing everyday, increased competition, and similarity in hardware products, there is a
high level of urgency for Microsoft to come up with an innovation strategy that will enable the
company to surpass its competitors. For the video game industry many threats exist including no
strong regulations against piracy by illegal manufacturers, high costs of improving technology, the
stiff competition within the industry, and the rise in popularity of substitute products. Amidst the
threats, there are certainly beneficial opportunities for Microsoft to approach going forward. These
opportunities would include online markets, expanding internationally, as well as new technology
possibly in the form of virtual reality video games. Going forward Microsoft should invest its scarce
resources and time through creating new technology, as best as possible. Microsoft can do this by
creating virtual reality as part of their games, and in doing so differentiate from its competitors. In
terms of marketing, loyal gamers are what ultimately make

Growth Disorder Analysis
Growth disorder affects thousands of people across the world. Some are diagnosed with excessive
tallness while others are diagnosed with familial short stature (Peak 6). In one case a boy was
diagnosed at eleven years old, and he had to inject himself with a biosynthetic growth hormone
everyday (Torres 25). He grew up and became the highest goalscorer in Barcelona s history, Leo
Messi (Caioli 34).
There are many details on growth disorder. For instance, people with growth disorder face many
physical challenges. One example is, it interferes with normal activities. It would be very hard for a
person with growth disorder to go grocery shopping, drive a car, or turn on lights. Another example is,
society is designed for average height (Peak 61). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance he has won dozens of awards, and he keeps on breaking records. Therefore, he has won
the Golden Shoe for being the top scorer in the FIFA World Youth Championship. He also became the
first player ever to win the Ballon d Or, an award for the Soccer Player of the Year, four times in a row
(Torres 36). Leo won a golden medal for Argentina s men s soccer team in the 2008 Olympics, and he
won the Copa del Rey Top Goalscorer in 2010 and 2011 (45). Although Leo has received many
awards, he has also accomplished a lot. For example, he makes $128,000 a day (Prayank). Leo was
also debuted on La Liga, and his #10 jersey has become the world s best selling (Morreale 21). Leo
has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most goals scored in one year (41).When
Leo was first signed to Barcelona, his contract was on a napkin (Torres 29).
Leo has many influences and inspirations. For instance Diego Maradona, a former great Argentinian
soccer player, is a big inspiration to Leo (Logothetis 7). Another inspiration is Leo s grandmother
Celia. She put Leo in his first youth soccer club when he was only five years old (Morreale 9). Every
time Leo scores a goal, he puts two fingers to the sky in honor of his grandmother (37).
In conclusion, growth disorder affects many people, but Leo Messi did not let that stop him from
becoming one of the greatest soccer players in history. Leo wants to give back, not only to those who
helped him,

Compare And Contrast Alternative And Alternative Medicine
Alternative medicine refers to the practices that are different from the conventional approach in the
field of medicine. Usually, the methods used in alternative medicine got its founding principles on the
philosophies that are opposite of those in modern day medicine. In addition, it also integrates the use
of spiritual practices, new approaches, or pre modern medical traditions in the healing process.
Alternative health care is a holistic way of caring for our body, mind and spirit. It is called alternative
because it offers a way of caring for our health that is not conventional or what we are used to in the
Western world. In the Western world caring for our health is done mostly by the administration of
medicines, many of which are synthetic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But with the advent of these drugs we gradually forgot alternative health care in favor of conventional
medicine. One reason was that conventional medicine was fast and predictable. You do not have to
search for the herb and boil it and make a concoction out of it. You just go to the drugstore, present the
prescription your doctor gave you, receive the medicine from the pharmacist or his/her aide and pay
for it. Upon reaching home, you just take the medicine. It is so convenient.
But the recent experience of people taking conventional drugs is that they may lead to dependence on
these drugs and larger doses may be required upon subsequent intakes. Furthermore there are bad
effects in taking these drugs. These happen especially with antibiotic drugs. So people began to look
for alternative ways of healing, one that is not heavily dependent on synthetic drugs and one that heals
body, soul and spirit so that the person really become whole.
Some of the methods of alternative health care may be enumerated

medical reasons they should have stayed at home station initially dealing with medical issue and

The Brigade left home station without being properly training in the security portion of WfF . I plan to

previous discipline issues with officers and senior NCOs will not be tolerated. The Army has no

A Russian Martyr, Ivan Vasilyevich Moiseyev
Dying at only twenty years old doesn t leave much space for someone to do something remarkable,
but for Ivan Moiseyev, it did. Moiseyev was born in 1952, and raised in a Christian home by his two
parents, Vasily Timofeyevich and Ionna Konstantinova, along with his six brothers and sister. In 1968
Ivan finished school at a young age of sixteen and went on to join the Evangelical Christian Baptist
Church (Neerskov, H.K.). In 1970, after about a year and a half of joining the church, Moiseyev gave
his life to the Lord, and obtained a newfound love to preach the Gospel not only in church, but to the
young people of Volontirovka, his hometown. For quite some time, Ivan Moiseyev had the job of a
delivery driver. That is, until November 1970, when Moiseyev got drafted into the Soviet Army for
two years of training and service (Neerskov, H.K.). Since he became such a strong Christian,
Moiseyev was always trying to find a time and place to pray. Eventually, Moiseyev found a room that
stayed empty till ten A.M. Every day, Ivan woke up at five A.M. and went to that room to pray until
nine A.M. (A Russian Martyr, Ivan Vasilyevich Moiseyev). On one particular morning, Ivan was
running late and had to hurry to the morning call; everyone had been waiting for him, and looking

who already knew Moiseyev s position as a believer, and informed Ivan that he would have a

Effective Workplace Communication
Listening and Effective Workplace Communication
James Humes, a former presidential speech writer, stated that, the art of communication is the
language of leadership (Leading Thoughts, 2010). Communication is an essential process that is
common in the workplace. Everyone in the workplace especially leaders must communicate with
others. Ideas, conversations, disagreements, and commitments can all be exchanged through
communication. Anyone can communicate but it takes discipline and skills to effectively
communicate. These skills can include feedback, presentation, non verbal communication, and
listening. Listening is the most valuable skills to effective workplace communication because it

If a guest calls down to the front desk and complains about their room the front desk clerk needs to
actively listen to know how to respond. A response may include sending up an item that was requested
by the guest or escalating the problem to upper management. Intently listening to the message that is
presented will help employees and managers respond in an appropriate manner. A response to listening
does not always have to verbal. A non verbal response like smiling or nodding can be an appropriate
response. It does not matter if the response is verbal or non verbal, listening will help to ensure that
the response is effective.
People tend to assume that the most important part of the pyramid is the top but they are incorrect.
The bottom of the pyramid is the most important part of the pyramid. The bottom of the pyramid is the
foundation on which the other blocks stand. If there was a pyramid to represent communication skills,
listening would be the foundation or the base for communication. Communication skills build on each
other and the skill that is used for the moment in time is the tip of the pyramid. Truly effective
communication involves more than just expressing yourself clearly. It also requires effective listening
(Brown, 2009). Listening helps to strengthen the other communication skills like feedback and
presentation. It is hard to present to an audience without understanding the audience s needs. To

Internet Addiction And Compulsive Internet Use
Since its inception, the internet has proven to be a vital asset to one s everyday life on multiple
occasions. With the aid of the internet, many have been able to successfully overcome any puzzling
obstacle presented to them. However, with great power comes great responsibility. In this context the
internet has that power. It is the utmost priority that that power be heavily monitored to ensure the best
possible future for generations to come. The internet can be a very dangerous place despite its many
accolades; due to the overwhelming usage amongst the world s population, the harmful content that
has the potential to be viewed, and the slander and backlash of various news sources and social media
outlets. So it only makes sense to take the precautions necessary to retaliate against them.
With the internet being implemented into the daily lives of a majority of the population, it s easy to
understand why over usage would be presented as a problem. As Einstein once said I fear the day that
technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots. The world
has become so invested in new technology that times of old are just a memory. No longer exploring
what the world has the offer, people stay isolated in their homes further straying away from outside
interaction. In the following excerpt of Dr. David N. Greenfield s book The Net Effect: Internet

Lab Report On The Biology Department
Introduction The Biology Department requested the identity of seven different samples. The aqueous
ionic solutions were sent to be disposed of by the company Enviro Safe, Inc. However, the shipment
containing seven, five gallon carboys, was labeled Experiment 9 and did not include the names of
solutions. The faculty in the Biology Department was unfamiliar with the contents but was able to
locate a pre laboratory notebook dated ten years prior, the notes only revealed that eight unknown
solutions were involved in the experiment. Enviro Safe would have charged $350 per carboy to
analysis the products if not identified by the laboratory class. In order to save the department money
all seven samples had to be labeled correctly and the identity of the one missing solution revealed. To
fulfill the Biology Department s request, the experiment involved mixing the solutions together two at
a time so the reactions, if any, could help determine the names of each solution. Experimental Safety
goggles were worn at all times. Soapy, tap water was utilized to clean seven small test tubes; all were
thoroughly rinsed with tap water. A paper towel was used to completely dry all moisture from the
glassware. Using the dropper provided with the bottle, 20 drops of solution 1 were added to one of the

Apple is a multinational company that started in California 1976 and is now the most valuable
company on the fortune 500 lists at $750 billion dollars. Apple first started in a garage and now has

the early 2000s laying off 1000s of American workers and brought up some unethical thoughts on
companies moving overseas to make a profit for themselves and shareholders instead of the greater

The Self Image Of Young Adults
For many, many decades Americans have suffered from self image because of inner conflicts causing
very low self esteem issues. Many of these conflicting identity issues play into these severe inflictions
with one s self. Teens and young adults have a troubled existence of feeling incompetent, unloved,
unworthy and leaving them unable to fit into the crowd because of their body image leaving an
imprint of a certain way to look. As Early as age five, children have been brainwashed with secular
television shows and cartoons with figures of slimming women with twenty four inch waste lines and
voluptuous, flawless petite bodies. But it is not only young girls being attacked of self image but boys
to revise things lacking of self image, growing facial hair and muscles rippling through their shirt with
a six pack to prove their masculinity. Media and parents have set a standard to how you should look,
and what is presentable and what is not; leaving them with an impaired self worth. The lifestyle of an
all American individual self image and low confidence withers through media, disengaged parental the
lack of awareness from educational resources. Media and television show, orbit around America and

Coyote Clan Kachina Doll Analysis
The sculptures Seated Couple, Vision of Lady Xoc, and Coyote Clan Kachina Doll, each represent
three distinct ancient cultures: the Dogon people of 18th and 19th century Mali, the Mayan culture
between 681 and 725 B.C.E, and the Zuni Pueblo Native American culture during the 19th century.
Each of these carved sculptures symbolizes truths universal to the human condition. The Seated
Couple symbolizes the universal family unit. The Vision of Lady Xoc symbolizes blood sacrifice for
venerated ancestors and preparation of warriors for battle. The Coyote Clan Kachina Doll symbolizes
the power of troublesome spirits.

The Seated Couple the cylindrical and mostly symmetrical figures not only depict the attributes of the
Dogon family life, but also the pairing of male and female spirits in Dogon mythology and the sexual
duality that Dogon s see as a spiritual component of every individual. (Ezra) The Vision of Lady Xoc
is a portion of the monument to Lady Xoc depicting her power and importance in Yaxchilán society.
The shedding of royal blood was an act of supreme sacrifice to gain the gods favor and thus perpetuate
the cycle of human life. (Kerr) Kachina dolls are used as a teaching device for children to cement the
tribal stories learned in the oral tradition of their tribes. The dolls and the kachina masks worn at
festivals are a reminder to the people of all that each Kachina represents.
Gender Roles are a significant theme in each of these sculptures. The Seated Couple depicts, men and
women working together as a unit, Dogon attitudes toward marriage as a partnership of independent
equals. This balanced duality is also a central tenet of Dogon mythology. ( Figure: Seated Couple )
The Vision of Xoc shows that in royal Maya courts, women filled important civic and religious roles
denied to most women in many Mesoamerican cultures. (Martin and Grube) The Zuni prized those
who were good at both traditional male and female roles and those who produce the crafts of both
genders.

Analysis Of Kevin Hart Like Ride Along 2
Honestly, I m starting to wonder if there should be a law against creating sequels to horrible
predecessors. I know. I know. That s ridiculous. But that doesn t change the fact that nobody asked for
another Ride Along. The first film was cheesy, unimaginative, and the partnership between Kevin Hart

more than $150 million worldwide, produced against a conservative budget of $25 million.
By definition, that is the recipe for a successful Hollywood production. Still, the reviews were

  • 3. Rigor Murtis Research Paper The Stiff Truth About Rigor Mortis Growing up, I have always been intrigued by murder mysteries. My favorite shows consisted of Criminal Minds, CSI, and NCIS. From watching these shows episode after episode, I have become familiarized with the term Rigor Mortis . Rigor Mortis is referred to as the third stage of death, where the muscles in the body contract leaving the body stiff for a period of time. Rigor Mortis occurs shortly after death, usually within three to four hours when the cells lose their oxygen supply. In order for muscles to contract, ATP is required. After death, ATP is no longer produced leaving the muscles tense. The process begins while a muscle is relaxed in its resting state. In the resting state, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This causes the muscles to stiffen making the deceased body go into the Rigor Mortis stage due to the accumulation of acid in the muscle tissue. Rigor Mortis hits its peak state about twelve hours after a person s death and slowly decreases over the next forty eight to sixty hours. Although Rigor Mortis may seem like a reliable source to use when predating a time of death, it is not. It is not ideal because of the large spans of time it encompasses. The windows can vary by as much as 24 hours and there are also several factors that can severely impact the onset and timeline of Rigor Mortis (Dillion, Death and Kinetics. ). Other factors which can alter the reliability of prediction based on Rigor Mortis is if: the deceased person had an illness, the temperature of the atmosphere in which the body was discovered, what the person s activities were before death, and the conditions in which the body was found. Due to the great list of factors that can modify the prediction of time of death using Rigor Mortis, I do not think it is a reliable source for doctors, detectives, or scientists to predict a time of ... The History And Social Impact Of The Circus Freak Show The History and Social Impact of the Circus Freak Show Since it s humble beginning in the mid 16th century, the circus and freak show act has been entertaining and horrifying people to this day; however, in today s ultra sensitive society, how has the classic freak show evolved to be deemed acceptable and be used to promote acceptance and positive views of people with abnormalities, rather than viewing these people as freaks , as was the original purpose of the classic freak show ? Popularized in the mid 16th century, the circus freak show became a common pastime in England. People with deformities and disabilities began being treated less as humans, and more as sources of interest and entrainment, and the crowds would gather to see these people exhibited. A notable early display was that of conjoined twins Lazarus and Johannes Baptista Colloredo. As described by History Magazine, Lazarus was thought to be quite handsome, appearing otherwise perfectly healthy, but for his conjoined twin brother. Joannes Baptista protruded, upside down, from his brother s chest. He was significantly smaller than Lazarus, and only his upper body and left leg visibly extended from his brother s torso (Strange and Bizarre:). Based off this description it is no wonder why the brothers became a popular exhibition at the court of King Charles I. Though the freak show was initially a display for the upper class, it would not take long for people to see the profitability of these acts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What girl hasn t had a Barbie doll in their lifetime? It is not unusual that at least 99% of girls in the population have or has had a Barbie. The main concern is with young girls up to the age of 10, with the idea image that Barbie provokes to these young minds. It gives the idea you have to be thin to be beautiful. Although, the thinness often resembles being unhealthy. The ultrathin image that Barbie contributes to these young minds is a negative body image and unhealthy eating patterns (Dittmar, Halliwell, Ive, 2006). In an exposure experiment three main questions were addressed: Do images of Barbie have an immediate negative impact on girls body image? Does exposure to images of a doll with more realistic body proportions result in the same detrimental effects? Is the impact of exposure to Barbie images age related so that effects differ depending on school year group (grade level)? (Dittmar, Halliwell, Ive, 2006, p. 283). Mary Magdalen With The Smoking Flame Analysis On the left we have Caravaggio, The Conversion of St. Paul, 1600, and on the right we have Georges de la Tour, Magdalen with the Smoking Flame, 1640. These two paintings represent major movements within art such as the influence of artists on one another, and the approach of religious paintings during the seventeenth century. Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio was known for introducing realism and drama by using theatrical lighting and gesture to Italian Baroque art. Caravaggio s paintings were focused on religious matter commissioned for the Catholic Church. Georges de la Tour was well known in his own time but then forgotten until well into the twentieth century. His work consisted mostly of candlelit subjects, and he commissioned paintings for royal aristocrats such as King Louis XIII and Henry II of Lorraine. After fully removing the string from the hoodie, place it within the straw and staple it in place. Now take the straw, which has more flexibility than a coat hanger wire, and weave it back through the drawstring path. Once again this method has flaws. Since one s intonation comes natural with their language and is not taught , it is helpful for those trying to modify their accent to be able to visualize their own intonation patterns as opposed to common intonation patterns of the accent they desire (Shoemaker, 1996). With the use of a specialized module for a computerized speech laboratory (CSL) created by Dr. Agin with Kay Elemetrics Corp., Lincoln Park, NJ, differences in sentence intonation patterns among non native speakers can be illustrated. One can speak into the system through a microphone and receive visual feedback regarding their intonations as opposed to the standard intonations of the language (Shoemaker, 1996). This visualization illustrates their pitch characteristics and intonation patterns, allowing the speaker to see what changes they may need to make in pitch and intonation in order to further improve their accent. Intonation is vital in languages at the sentence and conversation level in determining whether a question is being asked or a statement is being made. For this reason, the computerized speech lab is very beneficial to those learning to modify their accent among the non native population. But with the advent of these drugs we gradually forgot alternative health care in favor of conventional medicine. One reason was that conventional medicine was fast and predictable. You do not have to search for the herb and boil it and make a concoction out of it. You just go to the drugstore, present the prescription your doctor gave you, receive the medicine from the pharmacist or his/her aide and pay for it. Upon reaching home, you just take the medicine. It is so convenient. But the recent experience of people taking conventional drugs is that they may lead to dependence on these drugs and larger doses may be required upon subsequent intakes. Furthermore there are bad effects in taking these drugs. These happen especially with antibiotic drugs. So people began to look for alternative ways of healing, one that is not heavily dependent on synthetic drugs and one that heals body, soul and spirit so that the person really become whole. Moiseyev was born in 1952, and raised in a Christian home by his two parents, Vasily Timofeyevich and Ionna Konstantinova, along with his six brothers and sister. In 1968 Ivan finished school at a young age of sixteen and went on to join the Evangelical Christian Baptist Church (Neerskov, H.K.). In 1970, after about a year and a half of joining the church, Moiseyev gave his life to the Lord, and obtained a newfound love to preach the Gospel not only in church, but to the young people of Volontirovka, his hometown. For quite some time, Ivan Moiseyev had the job of a delivery driver. That is, until November 1970, when Moiseyev got drafted into the Soviet Army for two years of training and service (Neerskov, H.K.). Since he became such a strong Christian, Moiseyev was always trying to find a time and place to pray. Eventually, Moiseyev found a room that stayed empty till ten A.M. Every day, Ivan woke up at five A.M. and went to that room to pray until nine A.M. (A Russian Martyr, Ivan Vasilyevich Moiseyev). On one particular morning, Ivan was running late and had to hurry to the morning call; everyone had been waiting for him, and looking everywhere for him in addition. Ivan had to explain his reason for missing to the commanding officer, who already knew Moiseyev s position as a believer, and informed Ivan that he would have a punishment (A Russian ... Effective Workplace Communication Listening and Effective Workplace Communication James Humes, a former presidential speech writer, stated that, the art of communication is the language of leadership (Leading Thoughts, 2010). Communication is an essential process that is common in the workplace. Everyone in the workplace especially leaders must communicate with others. Ideas, conversations, disagreements, and commitments can all be exchanged through communication. Anyone can communicate but it takes discipline and skills to effectively communicate. These skills can include feedback, presentation, non verbal communication, and listening. Listening is the most valuable skills to effective workplace communication because it enhances job effectiveness, relationships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a guest calls down to the front desk and complains about their room the front desk clerk needs to actively listen to know how to respond. A response may include sending up an item that was requested by the guest or escalating the problem to upper management. Intently listening to the message that is presented will help employees and managers respond in an appropriate manner. A response to listening does not always have to verbal. A non verbal response like smiling or nodding can be an appropriate response. It does not matter if the response is verbal or non verbal, listening will help to ensure that the response is effective. People tend to assume that the most important part of the pyramid is the top but they are incorrect. The bottom of the pyramid is the most important part of the pyramid. The bottom of the pyramid is the foundation on which the other blocks stand. If there was a pyramid to represent communication skills, listening would be the foundation or the base for communication. Communication skills build on each other and the skill that is used for the moment in time is the tip of the pyramid. Truly effective communication involves more than just expressing yourself clearly. It also requires effective listening (Brown, 2009). Listening helps to strengthen the other communication skills like feedback and presentation. It is hard to present to an audience without understanding the audience s needs. To understand the ... With the aid of the internet, many have been able to successfully overcome any puzzling obstacle presented to them. However, with great power comes great responsibility. In this context the internet has that power. It is the utmost priority that that power be heavily monitored to ensure the best possible future for generations to come. The internet can be a very dangerous place despite its many accolades; due to the overwhelming usage amongst the world s population, the harmful content that has the potential to be viewed, and the slander and backlash of various news sources and social media outlets. So it only makes sense to take the precautions necessary to retaliate against them. With the internet being implemented into the daily lives of a majority of the population, it s easy to understand why over usage would be presented as a problem. The aqueous ionic solutions were sent to be disposed of by the company Enviro Safe, Inc. However, the shipment containing seven, five gallon carboys, was labeled Experiment 9 and did not include the names of solutions. The faculty in the Biology Department was unfamiliar with the contents but was able to locate a pre laboratory notebook dated ten years prior, the notes only revealed that eight unknown solutions were involved in the experiment. Enviro Safe would have charged $350 per carboy to analysis the products if not identified by the laboratory class. In order to save the department money all seven samples had to be labeled correctly and the identity of the one missing solution revealed. To fulfill the Biology Department s request, the experiment involved mixing the solutions together two at a time so the reactions, if any, could help determine the names of each solution. Experimental Safety goggles were worn at all times. Soapy, tap water was utilized to clean seven small test tubes; all were thoroughly rinsed with tap water. A paper towel was used to completely dry all moisture from the glassware. Using the dropper provided with the bottle, 20 drops of solution 1 were added to one of the clean test tubes.
