Schizophrenia Case Studies
Mr L is an 58 year old taxi driver with a long history of abdominal discomfort and dyspepsia. He
is consulting for progressive tiredness and fatigue which has troubled him over the past 8 months.
He has a 6 month history of unintentional weight loss of a total of 4 kg body weight, which
initially started with depression due to the death of two of this brothers. His bowel motions has
recently changed from once daily to constipationfor 3 4 days, followed by one or two loose bowel
motions a day. He has also recently lost his appetite which has contributed to further weight loss.
Due to his job he describes himself as being always on the go , with a habit of eating unhealthy
take away food. He used to consider himself as being relatively fit but is now experiencing
shortness of breath on little exercise. A colonoscopy was done 8 years ago which was normal.
The patient looks pale and tired. Pale skin and fatigue are common signs and symptoms of anaemia,
malignancies and nutritional deficiencies (Better Health Channel, 2014; Bickley, 2013, p. 106). It
could also be that the patient is not getting enough sleep, or because of pain and/or depression.
All vital signs are normal. The blood pressure is 115/80 mmHg, which is normal, and the heart rate

The patient should be referred on for a colonoscopy to screen for cancer and also in order to find
out the exact site of bleeding. The occult bleeding may have been persistent for a long period of
time due to the low level of haemoglobin (anaemia) and progressive symptoms of fatigue and
tiredness. Due to the loss of two of his brothers, stress and the initial loss of body weight, a
referral for counselling may also be appropriate. Another red flag is the extremely elevated ESR,
which is a marker for inflammation in the

Foreshadow In Trifles
In the shows, movies, and comics Superman shares numerous trait with Jesus Christ. First of all,
Superman is between the ages twenty nine to thirty five while Christ was thirty three years of age.
Often times in Superman cartoons he is shown to be captured by his enemies in a crucified manner
similar to how Christ was nailed to the cross. Then, in the movie SupermanReturns, Superman
harms his hands in his attempt to launch a large mass of Kryptonite, his only weakness which
drains his body of vital energy, away from Earth. This also saves the lives of thousands of people
and animals from the massive cracking and earthquakes occurring due to the chemicals presence on
Earth. During his final battle, a boy believed to be Superman s son due to... Show more content on

It is peculiar as to why J.K. Rowling chose to place the scar upon Harry s forehead. The source of
thought and reason. Perhaps, it was to somehow inflict Voldemort s values and beliefs into
Harry s mind to join the Death Eaters, so that way the Lord could ensure one of his horcruxes
safety. Makes sense as to why Voldemort never killed nor could kill Harry or else he d lose a
fragment of himself. The meaning of lightning bolt has meant power evident in the God of
Gods: Zeus. Even in the anime One Piece, it is even said that the one power mankind has never
overpowered was lightning. You can draw the energy to a lightning rod however its powers are
evident. To be struck by lightning usually means death because the body cannot handle the one
billion joules of energy a bolt creates. Therefore, it is almost unheard of that Harry Potter survived
such a traumatic experience of being stuck by Voldemort s dark magic symbolically equal to
lightning. Is to withstand lightning equivalent to overcoming nature? This ability is certain to be
deemed utter madness, for in all of history human have been at the hand of nature. We cannot live
through an Ice Age, survive a hurricane nor live to tell the tale of the beauty and terror of an
arriving tsunami. Yet, with the surviving Potter it is to every magic user s dismay how he survived.

The Effect of the First World War on the Well Being of British Civilians
When constructing an essay based upon the impact that the First World War had upon the wellbeing
of British civilians, we primarily have to distinguish how, and with what criteria we will use to
judge a Nations health standard and wellbeing.
Throughout this essay, it is my aim to evaluate all of the different primary and secondary material
available on the topic. Hopefully, this will provide me with enough data to make a subjective
opinion of my own.
Many historians over the years have bestowed upon us many conflicting thesis and ideologies
regarding the impact that the Great War had on the well being of British ... Show more content on

As my essay progresses, I hope to be able to decipher the authentic data and use it constructively to
provide a comprehensive answer to the above questions.
I think it is without doubt that as the hardships of war set in, the diet of the British civilian
population was greatly effected. Shortages in some food types meant that prices increased
dramatically, and luxury goods were no longer seen in the grocery store.
It has to be noted that the inelastic demand for the staple foods such as potatoes and bread actually
increased during the war years.
The total output of wheat, barley, oats, rye and potatoes exceeded 18 million tonnes by 1918. This
is an overall increase of 4 million tonnes since the onset of war.
It has been stated by many historians that the food shortage that were visible during World War 1
had positive effects on civilian health.
The reduction in the amount of alcohol and sugar consumed in the diet would most definitely have
beneficial effects on a nations wellbeing.
Maybe, theoretically speaking, the stabilising of the working class diet would have an
advantageous effect on nutritional levels, thus ultimately mortality rates.

The Flood Of 1955 And Hurricane Katrina
Natural disasters affect thousands of lives each year, and have the potential to drastically alter a
country/state and its people. Because of the destructive force Mother Nature can bring about, it is
imperative to have mitigation plans set up in populated areas to protect people and reduce the
structural damage to buildings, houses, etc. There are some mitigation plans, however, that have
been unsuccessful, resulting in catastrophic disasters. Best examples of these are the Connecticut
Flood of 1955 and Hurricane Katrina. Even though these are two different types of natural disasters;
the level of destruction, preparedness, mitigation strategies, and the overall aftermaths had profound
and lasting changes on the areas inflicted, mainly Connecticut and Louisiana. In August of 1955,
Connecticut suffered one of its worst flooding disasters in the history of the state. The flood was
caused by two hurricanes passing through the region around the same time, bringing several
inches of rain. According to the state s website, on August 11 12, Hurricane Connie produced four
to six inches of rain throughout Connecticut. One week later, on August 18 20, Hurricane Diane
produced another 10 to 20 inches of rain (ct.gov). As a result, heavy rains permeated the ground
and rivers, causing them to overflow. Most of the damage came from small rivers and streams that
did not have proper flood control as compared to major rivers such as the Connecticut River. The
hardest hit areas were the

Cause And Effect Of Cocaine
One of the most detrimental and addictive narcotics in the world today is cocaine. Cocaine dates
back as early as 3000 BC. Ancient Incas used the coca leaves to counter the effects of living in
thin mountain air. Native Peruvians in the 1500 s chewed the plant strictly for religious
ceremonies. Andean Indians are believed to chew the leaves of the coca plant to increase their
energy for work while decreasing their hunger and pain. It wasn t until 1859 when a German
chemist Albert Niemann successfully extracted the narcotic from the coca leaf. In the 1880 s, it
was freely prescribed by physicians for maladies as exhaustion, depression, and morphine addiction
and was available in many patent medicines ( Cocaine), until users and doctors began to realize its
dangers and side effects. While it was not fully understood at the time, cocaine has many
devastating and lasting effects on the user.
Today, cocaine is commonly derived from the coca plant that is most commonly grown in
Columbia but also Peru and Bolivia. It is harvested and processed into a coca paste which the
base of is extracted and turned into the white powder form of cocaine. Once the powder is made
it is often mixed with laundry detergent, laxatives, or boric acid to cut down the potency and have
more to distribute. Cocaine can be used snorting, smoking, injecting or swallowed. The United
States outlawed cocaine in the early 1920 s but it wasn t until the 1970 s and middle of the 1980 s

Mother and Parent

The Ideal Parent: Brightening a Childs Future Parenting is a big part of every ones lives; it makes
up who you are as a person and in many cases projects who you will be in the future. Some adults
have trouble manipulating their children and teaching them what is right from wrong, while others
have a much easier time doing so. In my opinion there is no such thing as the perfect parent , both
the mother and the father have their flaws, but what matters is that the parent is always there for
personal support. To me a good parent is someone who is always there to support there children in
both good and bad terms, and a responsible adult that can supply for their kids necessities, ... Show

The father is un employed and the mother is making the same amount as her teenage daughter.
This shows a lack of responsibility coming from both parents because at this age the parents
should be concerned about the daughter going to school and both parents should have a job
accounted for. The irresponsibility s of the parents can affect a child from a young age, not only
does it complicates the life of the kid, but the parents do a poor job of teaching a child the values
of being responsible. One parent shows responsibilities for their kids while the other parent
shows no remorse for her daughter. Finally, being a leader and a hard worker not only in your
children s lives but also in society is what makes a huge difference between a great parent and a
mediocre parent. Showing a child the values of leadership and hard work can make a kids future
that much better. A parent that holds these two characteristics and is able to put them to use in
society will not only be a great example for their kids, but a superb example of a great parent. In
the poem Those Winter Sundays , Hayden illustrates the hard work and leadership this father puts in
for the family to have a nice comfortable living. Sundays too my father got up early and put his
clothes on in the blueblack cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday
weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him. (1 5)

(Note It is assumed that the price elasticity of demand is constant over the period of time.)
A result on the next page shows that at sales price of $21.50, the sales quantity rises to 1,140,085
units and net profit turns to positive for the first time. Besides, if a company continues to reduce
the price further, at the point of $15.50, it is where the company s profit on product 101 is in the
highest position as it gives the net profit of $3,901,908.
However, there are several factors for the company to choose its pricing strategy. In this case, it
may be better if the company choose to sell its product at $21.50 instead of $15.50. This is due
to the fact that price cutting appears to be not a good strategy in this industry. If every player in
the same industry starts to lower the price of their products, every company will end up having
the low price, which in turns lead to a low profit margin. Moreover, referring to the calculation in a
below table, it also implies that if the price is lower than $12, sales will not be able to cover the
variable cost incurred, thus it will bring about a loss in net profit.

Existentialist, Mitwelt, And The Own-World
In existential psychology there is a focus on our existence and lived experience in regards to
various philosophical principles. There are several psychologists who delved into concept of
existentialism and their ideals can be combined into six ontological principles. Being human
equates to existing, being in the world, and this is through involvement and engagement. There
exists no separation of body or self from the world, it is indeed a unified phenomenon, spanning
across three planes of the realm, Umwelt, the around world, Mitwelt, the with world, and
Eigenwelt, the own world. The umwelt entails our drives, needs and physical facts of our existence
in the environment. Mitwelt is our world with others, and the effects of relationships on us. Finally,
eigenwelt is our inner relationship with ourselves, and how we perceive ourselves in the world. It is
through these three realms that we come to terms our existence and meaning... Show more content

We are the only beings that we know of who are aware of our existence and who also ponder the
questions surrounding the meaning behind our purposes. This allows us to step back and realize
just how finite we are and the depth of meaning behind choices we make. The example that the
text gives is from Frankle, who explains numerous examples of why even under such extremely
taxing and brutal conditions that the inmates of the Nazi concentration camps still had the will to
live. A personal example I can reflect on would be the countless times I have felt out of the loop
in social situations and the disconnect that comes along with this interaction. I have found that on
the occasion in my life, I have actually stepped back from myself and instead took a view from
the outside. This self reflection has always been somewhat mysterious to me in nature, but I believe
it may be my consciousness trying to bring about an awareness of who I am at the current

Iphone Vulnerabilities
The Apple Inc. iPhone mobile devices have been a successful phone in the technology era. There
are common vulnerabilities that have the ability to compromise a mobile device. The
vulnerabilities are able to give attacks a leverage in obtaining sensitive information or secured data.
The first common vulnerability is jail breaking which allows third party applications without an
official SDK from Apple to run on the iPhone. A fix to this vulnerability would be to not download
any applications to jailbreak the mobile device or any untrusted mobile applications. Another
vulnerability to the Apple iPhone is the Airdrop figure, which allows a user to unintentionally
download malicious malware when intended to share files with contacts. Solving this vulnerability
includes disabling the Airdrop or only allowing Airdrop to contacts. An additional vulnerability is
public Wi Fi information stealing that uses a public network to gain information on your mobile

2.4. HDFS File System
Hadoop distributed file system is written in Java for Hadoop framework, it is scalable and
portable FS. HDFS provide shell commands and Java application programming interface (API).
[12] Data in a Hadoop cluster is broken down into smaller pieces (called blocks) and distributed
throughout the cluster. In this way, the map and reduce functions can be executed on smaller
subsets of larger data sets, and this provides the scalability that is needed for big data processing.
[12] A Hadoop cluster has nominally a single namenode plus a cluster of datanodes, although
redundancy options are available for the namenode due to its criticality. Each datanode serves up
blocks of data over the network using a block protocol specific to HDFS. The file system uses TCP
/IP sockets for communication. Clients use remote procedure calls (RPC) to communicate with
each other.
Fig 5. HDFS Architecture [19]
HDFS stores large files across multiple machines. It achieves reliability by replicating the data
across multiple hosts, and hence theoretically does not require redundant array of independent disks

Requirements for a Career as Licensed Funeral Director Essay
Your cell phone rings in the middle of the night and you are notified that you have to go to work.
After hastily getting ready, you find yourself walking down a hallway; you turn into an empty
doorway and enter a dark, cold room that is filled with lifeless bodies waiting to be attended to.
This may be an unfavorable situation to many, but to a funeral director, it is just another day at
work. In order to become a funeral director, one must be genuinely interested, willing to fulfill the
job requirements, be able to cope with deathon a daily basis, and still maintain a positive outlook on
life.
Usually, people take on the profession of becoming a funeral director, or mortician, because of

They must also attain a state license in order to practice what they have studied (Education
Portal. 2014.). Internships are not always paid so one must really love what they are instructed
to do in order to pursue their goals of becoming a mortician. Not many people are willing to work
for free for such an elongated period of time. In New Jersey, funeral directors are also
embalmers. In other states, it may be more common to find that the funeral director and
embalmer are two different people (Park Mustacchio. 2013). Kevin Sinclair, an embalmer of
twenty two years, advocates for a person to have a certain personality in order to become an
embalmer (Bradley.2013). He does this because like everyone may know, it can be traumatic
(Bradley.2013.). Anyone may be want to become a funeral director or an embalmer, but it
requires a lot of emotional stability to deal with many dead bodies that have been distorted
because of an accident. Another mortician humorously said from his past experiences, If you can
be a successful waiter, you can be a successful funeral director (Giang. 2013.). The comparison
between the two occupations may open one s eyes to a different kind of perspective. For example,
a waiter would be accustomed to a pizza being placed in an oven just as a funeral director would be
accustomed to a corpse being placed in a crematory to be cremated. Dealing with death, more so

American rock and roll has dominated many areas around the world, but primarily with the British
music scene.
In the 1960 s British artists took their modified edition of rock and roll, crossed the Atlantic
Ocean and shared it with America. This concept would end up being acknowledged as the British
Invasion. The British Invasion is the movement where bands from the United Kingdom became
popular in the United States. It involved the virtual control of AM radio and the record industry
in the United States by British artists, particularly the groups who had confirmed to be experts at
recycling the American rhythm and blues and rockabilly songs of the 1950 s (Burns 2004). This
movement is described as one of the most fascinating aspects of rock revolution that stimulated
young American audiences by a second hand version of American music traditions and filtered
through British sensibilities (Winkler 1988). Due to The Beatles heavy influence on American
music culture, it is still debated whether or not they were the greatest band of all time. There are
many theories as to why America supported and embraced The Beatles success. The focal point
shifted from the aftershock of John F. Kennedy s death towards The Beatles and their rising

Bill Gates Vs Bill Gates Similarities
For people in my own age group, our oldest memories of computers are most likely the pinball
game on Windows XP, and Google s website showing a different font. A little earlier than that,
documents were saved on floppy disks instead of USB drives, and before that, network
connections were made over a phone line. However, it is hard for anyone to imagine a time when
having a computer on every desk and in every home was regarded as an impossibility, even if they
remember those years (Academy of Achievement). The personal computer has evolved into an
essential tool in the daily lives of most Americans, because of the wave of innovations that Bill
Gateskicked off in 1975. Bill Gates was raised as a fierce competitor, which he demonstrated at a
young age when waterskiing or playing tennis with his family. However, he was even more intense
when he went up against intellectual challenges, which his parents found out soon after enrolling
him in the Lakeside School. In 1967, a terminal was set up in the Seattle private school, which
could use the resources of an off site computer for the duration of a paid session, and Gates was
immediately hooked. Along with Paul Allen, he learned the programming language, BASIC, which
was in use at the time, and the two students took every opportunity for computer time they could
get. When Paul Allen reflected on this time, he noted one key difference between Gates and
himself: Where I was curious to study everything in sight, Bill would

Cardiovascular System Vs Respiratory System Essay
The human body is not simply just an organism, or just body. The body is comprised of many
different systems. Although these systems all work together with one common goal, to maintain
homeostasis, perhaps there are not two systems that work more closely together than the respiratory
system and the cardiovascular system. Although the entirety of each body system has a generalized
common goal, these two systems share a relationship. The both focus on providing oxygen to the
blood, and then ensuring that this richly oxygenated blood is circulated throughout the body. The
whole human organism would fail if it lacked just one of these systems, and the individual systems
would fail without each other. To fully understand how the two work together, one must fully
realize the functions of each system apart. The respiratory is not one of the biggest systems of the
body, but it is one of the most commonly known. However, this system is not simply for breathing
or the lung system . In fact, these notions only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two most significant to the coexistence of both systems being the pulmonary artery and
pulmonary vein. The pulmonary artery carries the blood lacking in oxygen into the lungs (Bailey).
From there, the oxygen from the air sacs goes into the blood vessel, while the carbon dioxide
comes out (How Does Oxygen Get Into the Bloodstream) . Upon this moment, the organism exhales
releasing the carbon dioxide. Meanwhile, the now oxygenated blood travels throughout the body,
which especially important for the muscles. Oxygen is required for the muscles to preform any sort
of strenuous activity. Faster paced breathing and an elevated heart rate aren t random symptoms of
a good work out. The blood must quickly transfer oxygen to the muscles. This is so that the
muscles have the ability to create adenosine tri phosphate (ATP) which carries

The Importance Of Environmental Justice
In todays world, there are a fair share of groups with opposing viewpoints as well as mindsets,
which often leads to conflict. Certainly the forestry world has had its fare share of people in power
making decisions based on whats best for them finically or personally, and not what is best for the
community and/or forest. Deep ecology includes a large majority of the same concepts in which
they want to work towards the best interest of the forest and environment, and for the majority
focus on the fact that humans are interfering with the forest to much as it is, and it needs to be
changed (Naess, 264). Environmental justice focuses on how currently there is an elitist
membership and narrow scope in the current conventional environmental practices and tries to work
towards sustainability(Gottlieb 1993). When both of these collide they create what is knows as
Wicked Problems , they go beyond scientific, economic, and techno rational analysis and
methods of problem solving ( Nie 307). Hence is is difficult to know when said conflict has been
solved, We use the term wicked in a meaning akin to that of malignant (in contrast to benign ) or
vicious (like a circle) or tricky (like a leprechaun) or aggressive (like a lion, in contrast to the
docility of a lamb) (Rittel and Webber 1973: p. 160) Recently there has been an increase in the
amount of drivers in the modern environmental movement, some of which are resource scarcity,
rise of outdoor recreation, changing

Distinctive Visuals in Run Lola Run Essay
A composer can create images dependant on the form of the language of texts to shape a
responders understanding of the ideas and themes prompted by people and their experiences. The
German film, Run Lola Run written and directed by Tom Tykwer, focuses on the experiences of
the protagonist Lola to explore the themes of the inevitable force of time, and the issue of freewill
verses determinism. Similarly, Dorothea Mackellar, in her poem My Country , relies on her
experiences of the Australian landscape to convey her love and passion for the country using the
language of the distinctive visual.
The distinctively visual techniques employed by Tykwer in Run Lola Run, function to raise the

Split screen techniques divide the screen into three equal proportions creating a simultaneous
depiction of Lola, Manni and the clock, allowing Tykwer to show the struggle to beat time. Adding
to the dramatic urgency and reinforcing the power of time is the virtual real time of the film,
meaning the twenty minutes of Lola s life are shown in virtually twenty minutes of screen time.
Hence, the distinctively visual provides an insightful image into Lola s experiences placed under
seize by the adamant nature of time.
Interestingly, visual techniques are also effective in portraying the theme of free will versus
determinism to question the responder who and what controls our lives. The tripartite storytelling
structure incorporating three wholly, self contained alternate versions of events is an
unconventional filming technique reinforcing the postmodernist perception of having minimal
control over life. As Lola rushes past minor characters in the film, flash forwards offer alternate
glimpses of the possible outcome of their future, suggesting that fee will alone is not a sole
determination of the outcome of life. In each run, Lola s encounter with these minor characters
varies, showing that even the slightest change can become a significant impact to life. An extreme

Examples Of Medical Malpractice
Medical Malpractice: Michael Chambers informs you about everything you need to know
Medical malpractice is an example of negligence that may cause a severe personal injury or death.
Precisely, medical malpractice denotes a legal offense that happens if a medical professional does
not perform his or her duties properly due to negligence. As it has been pointed out before, the
result of medical negligence is injury or death. Medical professionals include doctors, nurses,
dentists, chiropractors, opticians, pharmacists etc.
In Cyprus, medical malpractice is covered by the civil law (Cap.148). However, many times, a
medical malpractice case in Cyprus considers a dispute over the standard of care . The term
standard of care denotes the level of skill, expertise and care practiced by medical professionals
under some particular circumstances. In Cyprus, standard of care is often determined through
consultations from medical professionals who practice or teach medicine in the same specialty as
the defendant. The expert s testimony is essential since a lack of recovery or injury does not imply
that the standard of care has not been followed.

Informative Speech On Yellow Media
Thank you for your attention in this matter. Ladies and gentlemen of the Jury, I have come
before you to state the matter of a magazine article that I can simply not believe made headlines.
My client Princess Diana has been defectively represented on plentiful occasions by Princess
Camilla and the Woman s Day magazine who has positioned my client to be viewed as a woman
who has sent death threats and a bad mother to her two children Harry and William. On July 10,
2017 Woman s Day released their weekly magazine which featured a front page article on Camilla s
outlandish claims against my client claiming that she threatened to kill Camilla. These ludicrous
accusations portray Dianaas threatening, psychotic and insane.
Under no circumstances has my client said such heinous things, nor has she tried to kill Camilla.
These wild accusations have led readers of the magazine article to believe that Diana is someone
who wants to kill Camilla and manipulates the public to see her as a good mother even though she
supposedly contacts photographers to get photos of her with her children being good. I have come
today to state the truth and for you to listen on behalf of my argument and Princess Diana. The
article uses many kinds of various codes and conventions to defame my client as a manipulative,
psychotic and threatening. This is undoubtedly unacceptable in today s society and is obviously an
example of yellow journalism.

Effect Of Sucrose Concentration On Chlorophyll Pigment
Accept or Reject
I would reject my hypothesis because I saw the Xanthophyll pigment, the yellow color.
6. Pigment Movement
Some pigments move further than others because of the size of their particles. Smaller, lighter
particles will move through the filter paper more swiftly than larger, heavier particles. This is true
because smaller, lighter particles are more soluble in solvent, thus allowing them to move further. In
addition, a pigments affinity for paper will affect its distance travelled. The more polar a substance
is, the greater attractiveness it will have to paper through hydrogen bonding (Jeffrey Saenger 149).
Therefore, the pigments particle size, solubility, and attractiveness to paper will determine the
distance it moves.

Leaves are the primary site for photosynthesis in a plant. These leaves contain Chlorophyll
molecules, which absorb and reflect most of the light needed for photosynthesis. When red and blue
photons hit chlorophyll, the electrons in its atoms become excited. These excited electrons are then
used to power adenosine triphosphate, which is used to make sugar. Thus, red and blue photos are
key in powering chlorophyll molecules, which are important in photosynthesis. Therefore, the best
colors of the lightbulbs would be red and blue. On the other hand, since Chlorophyll reflects green
light instead of absorbing it, the energy needed for photosynthesis is not being absorbed. Therefore,

Essay about Small Change
Small Change What determines a movement? Malcolm Gladwell defines what pushes a
movement to make a difference. He analyzes the concept of strong ties and weak ties and how
these relationships affect an individual s willpower and determination to help a cause. Gregory
Orr puts these ideas into context in his memoir, Return to Hayneville , in which he recounts his
experience and involvement in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Malcolm Gladwell s Small

Orr s experience helped him learn about himself and primarily helps an individual discover the
importance of living. Gladwell would classify Orr as someone who shared no relationship with
the cause and only joined because because he wanted to find himself in the midst of chaos not
necessarily because he was passionate about the civil rights movement. Gladwell describes the
movement of sit ins across the south as a fever . Orr found himself caught up in the contagion,
he endured the beatings and the injustice the same as everyone else but his motives were not set
for civil rights, he realized this when he was taken and held captive, Even as I sank into
depression and brooded in the stifling heat of that jail barn, I was learning that I wanted to live,
(Orr, 223). When he was released Orr left without alerting the COFO office because he felt
ashamed. It was easy for him to walk away from the cause for him to walk away from the cause
because he as he left he wasn t leaving anything or anyone behind. Gladwell s explains that weak
ties seldom lead to high risk activism (Gladwell, 137). In Gregory Orr s essay, Return to

by armed vigilantes in Alabama as a Civil Rights worker in 1965. Even though the events of this

Filipinos are also proud of their Spanish lineage. On a shut gun whim the only issue with Spain in
my opinion was that religion and state were strongly interconnected which caused problems for
some friars who had problems with their homeland were sent in our country. However, Ocampo a
historian points out a few points in which would really make one ponder.
If the Spanish friars were so bad, why was there a need for them to be written about in the
propaganda movement? Wouldn t their deeds be well known if they were as vile as we are led to
believe? If Spanish friars were as bad as they are supposed to be, how could they walk freely in the
Philippines, sometimes in places where the friar was the only Spaniard in town? (Ocampo, 1)
These are very good points. Filipinos hardly hold grudges and the imagery of what La Leyenda
Negra shows off would make one think it well enough to hold a grudge on. But we don t, so can
we say that the Spaniards coming in the Philippines was entirely not good for us?
The Spaniards have left great influences not only in religion but also in other areas like,
government, education, culture, language, food and entertainment. These are deeply rooted in most
of our lives and even make up a huge part of some Filipinos being in general. The following are

methods of protein purification are needed to address the growing demand for antibodies. In this

Protein A is thermostable, and is not destroyed by trypsin4; however, Protein A is most useful
for its stability in regard to pH. It s polypeptide structure is so stable that it has continuous
stability both at very acidic pH (0.99) and at a very basic pH (11.8) 3,4. For this reason, it useful
across many pH levels that would be useful in a protein affinity assay because this particular assay
requires changing the pH to determine what would be the best to elute the protein that is being
selected for; however, for an affinity assay involving human immunoglobulin, protein A is used for
an additional reason. Protein A is from a bacteria and human immunoglobulin is associated with the
immune system of the humans, as the name implies. Protein A contains five locations that it can
bind to IgG5. These five domains, often labeled regions A E, each consist of 58 62 amino acid
residues, and a C terminal consists of 150 amino acid residues. The IgG binding domains (A E)
each consist of three anti parallel О± helices which are stabilized by hydrophobic regions between
them. These domains bind with the Fc region of the immunoglobulin and form a complex with the
Fc region. When this binding occurs a conformational change occurs which is reinforced by polar,
and hydrophobic interactions4. This binding pattern is the basis for its use in protein affinity assay
that involve eluting IgG out of solution that contain other human immunoglobulins. As the other

The name aromatherapy was created by the French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse (1881 1950)

Bombing Of Nagasaki Essay
On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped the Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki, Japan killing 70,000
people. The atomic bomb was directly responsible for the Non Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons
treaty of 1970. Although the bombing of Nagasaki was purely devastating, the United States
Government claims the bomb was not inhumane but the Japanese government disagrees even

The United States Government and military refer to the use of the atomic bomb as valid and

Nagasaki. Frederick Olivi, the third Bockscar pilot, described the nuclear fireball as being

Feral Children In Lord Of The Flies
In the Lord of the Flies the whole plot is centered around these boys who can be seen as feral
children. A feral child is a human child who has lived isolated from human contact. Most of the
time these children will have no experience regarding human care, social niceties, or language.
Therefore, most of the time these children will not be able to speak or even stand up straight.
They could also be unable to use facilities. Another problem a feral child would face is being
unable to learn at a normal speed depending on how long they were isolated this is due to their
lack in interest in human activity around them. This also causes these children to not be able to
create bonds with other people. With this, these children have little to no morals to keep them in
check because they are willing to do most anything to justify what they or someone else does.
This is the same way for the island boys because they were on their own on this deserted island
with no adults to tell them what to do or what not to do. Over the course of time these boys began

Why The British Led The Industrial Revolution
Why the British Led the Industrial Revolution What led Great Britain to become the first country to
star in the Industrial Revolution, comes down to a complex system of factors, each aspect holds a
major role in the contribution in the growth in the Industrial Revolution and of Great Britain. While
much is known about the happenings of the Industrial Revolutionitself, less is acknowledged about
the events that were direct causes of the period. Histories and economist have pointed towards
several key factors, each working together like well oiled machine. First, beginning with the
agriculture revolution which would increase the production of crops as well and decreasing
prices. More food meant more trade. Trade then lead to larger desire for goods and with the need
of goods arose new technology. Technology increased the production and efficiency of all
factories. With the creation of factories, workers were required to help produce and run machines.
The prospect of new work drive people to cities and towns. The Industrial Revolution was a cycle
that feed itself, with need came technology and with technology came need and through this
process arose advanced society which Great Britain led the world forward.
For any civilization to develop, it must not only be able to feed its people but also be affordable
and keep up with rising population. Without a stable source of food and or livestock no nation
could support an industrial evolution or even standard growth. For

Symptoms And Treatment Of Bacterial Resistance Essay
As a surgical Technologist in the Operating room, I have witnessed first hand the destruction and
suffering that bacteria can have on the body. Some infections only cause minor discomfort and

outcome of a patient and their future life. Resistance can even determine if a person lives or dies
from a bacterial infection. This is in no way more present to me than in the life of my grandmother

Eyes heavy, wrapping my body tightly within my blankets much like a caterpillar as it is
preparing its chrysalis, soon I would metamorphose into a superhero, villain, or whatever I could
become in that euphoric transition from being conscious to sleep. Shortly after closing my eyes,
reality became a nightmare. Imagine for a moment every firework on the fourth of July going off
at once. Ears pierced by a violent shock wave, bed lifting off the floor, a feeling of momentary
weightlessness as I was catapulted. like a race car being flung uncontrollably end over end before
it scatters and disintegrates into a pile of twisted metal. No time to duck and cover, scream, or cry
out in fear, blackness!
Eyes struggled to open, the world around me blurry, dark, spinning. Danny, Danny, are you alright?
I heard my mother ask frantically. Confused, startled, feeling like someone was trying to hammer a
nail through my head, a warm and sticky fluid running down the side of my face, my eyes gradually
converging on my surroundings.
Still in shock laying silently on the floor, from my vantage I could see into the kitchen. On the
floor in the center of the kitchen, laying on its side disemboweled, contents that should have been
on the inside were strewn about the floor surrounding it. A grotesque sticky mess of entrails,
leftovers from last night s dinner. As if dead, it laysilent, still seeping fluids, milk and juice were

Research Paper On Iroquois Tribes
The Iroquois people consisted of many different tribes rather than one big group. These groups
included the Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, Mohawk, Cayuga and the Tuscarora. The Iroquois have
occupied the Eastern Woodlands for over 4,000 years. The Iroquois tribes first settled in the Eastern
Woodlands located in the Eastern United States. This area had thick forests, rivers, hills, and
mountains. One thing the Iroquoiswere best known for were their longhouses. These longhouses
were estimated to be longer than the length of an entire football field. Inside of the longhouse,
there is an aisle in the middle and living space on either side. The longhouses were matrilineal, so
when a marriage occurred, the family would move into the longhouse of the mother. The Iroquois
usually lived in clans, or groups of families.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The women usually harvested most of the food. They ate deohako, or life supporters, which
were corn, beans, and squash. These three crops could also be known as the three sisters. They
could be mixed together to create a vegetable dish called succotash. The Iroquois people also
picked lots of blueberries, strawberries, and cranberries. Tools were created for farming, such as the
wooden rake used to level the soil, and a wooden spade to dig the soil. After food was dried, it
would be placed into clay pots that were lined with bark to keep mice out. In the fall, men
usually hunted for animals like elk, bears, deer and wolves. During the spring, they would go
fishing. Men would also help clear fields and build villages, but their primary job was warfare. The
Iroquois were always grateful for their food and held six festivals each year to say their

Urban Sprawl In Los Angeles Essay
Los Angeles is built on the vast and flat landscape; it was their opportunity to grow fast as a
metropolitan. With this environment, the constant influx of population was enough to generate a
significant community even outside of downtown. The urban sprawl started on its endless
horizontal ground. However, soon they confronted the limit of the carrying capacity. L.A couldn t
handle its urban sprawl; it needed a solution to keep growing. Los Angelescouldn t deal with the
increasing housing demand and lacking of public space. Compared to other metropolitan, such as
New York, Los Angeles showed the dramatic comparison in population density. The urbanized area
of Los Angeles was the densest in the country in 1990, more so than even New York City
. The 2000
figure for the Los Angeles Long Beach Santa Ana Urbanized area is 7,068 people per square
mile, compared to 5,309 for the New York, New jersey Connecticut urbanized area. (Grey 90) In
detail, 90 districts of L.A have more than 10,000 people per square mile. Especially Koreatown
has the biggest number which is 42,000 square per mile (LA times Sewell 2016). After decades,
when it confronted its housing problem due to unaffordability, people finally realized there is no
suburban area for them to move or build new housings in Los Angeles. They reached their limit of
growing. Unnerving lesson in man s infinite capacity to mess up his environment. (Grey 238) The
population kept larger, the price of housing also increased. Los

Vladimir Putin Chapter 1 Summary
Summary: Chapters 3 4 Vladimir Putin s move from St. Petersburg to Moscow signaled the
beginning of the Putin era. Throughout his time in the KGB and as first deputy mayor of St.
Petersburg, he was rarely ever seen as a man of high honor and prestige. His positions included
advancing the agendas of those around him, but he rarely ever aimed to advance his own career.
Despite this lack of ambition, Putin s admirable personality traits and various political connections
led to his accelerated rise to power. Upon being officially inaugurated on May 7, 2000, Putin s
boldness and authority acted as a saving grace for Russiaand its people. Throughout the 1990s, the
state of Russia s economy, politics, and society as a whole was in constant turmoil and disarray.
President Yeltsin campaigned on the basis of drastic economic change that would transform Russia
from a bleak totalitarian past to a bright and promising democratic future. In order to fight the
stagflation caused by the Soviet s command economy, Yeltsin enacted measures of shock therapy to
slowly reconstruct the failing economy. These measures included removing government price
controls on numerous products, lifting wage controls on various jobs, cutting military spending to
spare the budget deficit, and handing out vouchers to citizens in an effort to... Show more content on

His intentions were true, but his execution resulted in extreme poverty, inflation soaring 20 30
percent per month, incredibly high unemployment, plummeting GDP, and an overall tumultuous
period of suffering for Russia and its people. Putin remained out of the political scene for much of
this chaotic time; that is until he got summoned to Moscow in 1996 and involved himself in Kremlin
politics. Yeltsin, immediately impressed with his professional mannerism, vast knowledge of facts,
and unbreakable loyalty, appointed Putin to deal with Russia s most pressing issue at the

Foils And Foils In Roman Fever By Edith Wharton
Opposites don t always attract. In Edith Wharton s Roman Fever , the two main characters seem
to be almost complete opposites of each other. In fact, it can be argued that they are actually
foils of each other. Foils in literature are described as a foil is a character that shows qualities
that are in contrast with the qualities of another character with the objective to highlight the
traits of the other character (LiteraryDevices Editors). Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade seem to at
first be foils of each other, but only on the last page and in the finale act of the story do we see
that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade may not be so different after all. Armine Kotin Mortimer in
their essay makes this claim, We see each in turn through the somewhat tainted view of the other
(Mortimer 189). I agree with this. The two women definitely don t see each other as similar in
any way. Mortimer says that the women both see each other as if they themselves as better
(Mortimer 189). They are different from each other, but both think lowly other the other. The
smaller and paler one shook her head (Wharton 116). The other lady, who was fuller and higher in
color... (Wharton 116). These two sentences show us that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade are very
different from each other. Mrs. Grace Ansley is a quiet, reserved, pale, small woman(Wharton 116).
In turn, Mrs. Alida Slade is a loud, outgoing, large, articulate woman (Wharton 116). The two
women seem to be complete opposites of each other in

Makes sense as to why Voldemort never killed nor could kill Harry or else he d lose a fragment of himself. The meaning of lightning bolt has meant power evident in the God of Gods: Zeus. Even in the anime One Piece, it is even said that the one power mankind has never overpowered was lightning. You can draw the energy to a lightning rod however its powers are evident. To be struck by lightning usually means death because the body cannot handle the one billion joules of energy a bolt creates. Therefore, it is almost unheard of that Harry Potter survived such a traumatic experience of being stuck by Voldemort s dark magic symbolically equal to lightning. Is to withstand lightning equivalent to overcoming nature? This ability is certain to be deemed utter madness, for in all of history human have been at the hand of nature. The Effect of the First World War on the Well Being of British Civilians When constructing an essay based upon the impact that the First World War had upon the wellbeing of British civilians, we primarily have to distinguish how, and with what criteria we will use to judge a Nations health standard and wellbeing. Throughout this essay, it is my aim to evaluate all of the different primary and secondary material available on the topic. Hopefully, this will provide me with enough data to make a subjective opinion of my own. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As my essay progresses, I hope to be able to decipher the authentic data and use it constructively to provide a comprehensive answer to the above questions. I think it is without doubt that as the hardships of war set in, the diet of the British civilian population was greatly effected. Shortages in some food types meant that prices increased dramatically, and luxury goods were no longer seen in the grocery store. It has to be noted that the inelastic demand for the staple foods such as potatoes and bread actually increased during the war years. The total output of wheat, barley, oats, rye and potatoes exceeded 18 million tonnes by 1918. This is an overall increase of 4 million tonnes since the onset of war. It has been stated by many historians that the food shortage that were visible during World War 1 had positive effects on civilian health. The reduction in the amount of alcohol and sugar consumed in the diet would most definitely have beneficial effects on a nations wellbeing. Maybe, theoretically speaking, the stabilising of the working class diet would have an advantageous effect on nutritional levels, thus ultimately mortality rates. Winter ... • 5. The Flood Of 1955 And Hurricane Katrina Natural disasters affect thousands of lives each year, and have the potential to drastically alter a country/state and its people. Because of the destructive force Mother Nature can bring about, it is imperative to have mitigation plans set up in populated areas to protect people and reduce the structural damage to buildings, houses, etc. There are some mitigation plans, however, that have been unsuccessful, resulting in catastrophic disasters. Best examples of these are the Connecticut Flood of 1955 and Hurricane Katrina. Even though these are two different types of natural disasters; the level of destruction, preparedness, mitigation strategies, and the overall aftermaths had profound and lasting changes on the areas inflicted, mainly Connecticut and Louisiana. In August of 1955, Connecticut suffered one of its worst flooding disasters in the history of the state. The flood was caused by two hurricanes passing through the region around the same time, bringing several inches of rain. According to the state s website, on August 11 12, Hurricane Connie produced four to six inches of rain throughout Connecticut. One week later, on August 18 20, Hurricane Diane produced another 10 to 20 inches of rain (ct.gov). As a result, heavy rains permeated the ground and rivers, causing them to overflow. Most of the damage came from small rivers and streams that did not have proper flood control as compared to major rivers such as the Connecticut River. The hardest hit areas were the ... • 6. Cause And Effect Of Cocaine One of the most detrimental and addictive narcotics in the world today is cocaine. Cocaine dates back as early as 3000 BC. Ancient Incas used the coca leaves to counter the effects of living in thin mountain air. Native Peruvians in the 1500 s chewed the plant strictly for religious ceremonies. Andean Indians are believed to chew the leaves of the coca plant to increase their energy for work while decreasing their hunger and pain. It wasn t until 1859 when a German chemist Albert Niemann successfully extracted the narcotic from the coca leaf. In the 1880 s, it was freely prescribed by physicians for maladies as exhaustion, depression, and morphine addiction and was available in many patent medicines ( Cocaine), until users and doctors began to realize its dangers and side effects. While it was not fully understood at the time, cocaine has many devastating and lasting effects on the user. Today, cocaine is commonly derived from the coca plant that is most commonly grown in Columbia but also Peru and Bolivia. It is harvested and processed into a coca paste which the base of is extracted and turned into the white powder form of cocaine. Once the powder is made it is often mixed with laundry detergent, laxatives, or boric acid to cut down the potency and have more to distribute. Mother and Parent Daniel Pelayo Professor Nathifa Tomb English 1B 6 March 2013 The Ideal Parent: Brightening a Childs Future Parenting is a big part of every ones lives; it makes up who you are as a person and in many cases projects who you will be in the future. Some adults have trouble manipulating their children and teaching them what is right from wrong, while others have a much easier time doing so. In my opinion there is no such thing as the perfect parent , both the mother and the father have their flaws, but what matters is that the parent is always there for personal support. This shows a lack of responsibility coming from both parents because at this age the parents should be concerned about the daughter going to school and both parents should have a job accounted for. The irresponsibility s of the parents can affect a child from a young age, not only does it complicates the life of the kid, but the parents do a poor job of teaching a child the values of being responsible. One parent shows responsibilities for their kids while the other parent shows no remorse for her daughter. Finally, being a leader and a hard worker not only in your children s lives but also in society is what makes a huge difference between a great parent and a mediocre parent. Showing a child the values of leadership and hard work can make a kids future that much better. A parent that holds these two characteristics and is able to put them to use in society will not only be a great example for their kids, but a superb example of a great parent. • 22. Cardiovascular System Vs Respiratory System Essay The human body is not simply just an organism, or just body. The body is comprised of many different systems. Although these systems all work together with one common goal, to maintain homeostasis, perhaps there are not two systems that work more closely together than the respiratory system and the cardiovascular system. Although the entirety of each body system has a generalized common goal, these two systems share a relationship. The both focus on providing oxygen to the blood, and then ensuring that this richly oxygenated blood is circulated throughout the body. The whole human organism would fail if it lacked just one of these systems, and the individual systems would fail without each other. Certainly the forestry world has had its fare share of people in power making decisions based on whats best for them finically or personally, and not what is best for the community and/or forest. Deep ecology includes a large majority of the same concepts in which they want to work towards the best interest of the forest and environment, and for the majority focus on the fact that humans are interfering with the forest to much as it is, and it needs to be changed (Naess, 264). Environmental justice focuses on how currently there is an elitist membership and narrow scope in the current conventional environmental practices and tries to work towards sustainability(Gottlieb 1993). When both of these collide they create what is knows as Wicked Problems , they go beyond scientific, economic, and techno rational analysis and methods of problem solving ( Nie 307). Hence is is difficult to know when said conflict has been solved, We use the term wicked in a meaning akin to that of malignant (in contrast to benign ) or vicious (like a circle) or tricky (like a leprechaun) or aggressive (like a lion, in contrast to the docility of a lamb) (Rittel and Webber 1973: p. 160) Recently there has been an increase in the amount of drivers in the modern environmental movement, some of which are resource scarcity, rise of outdoor recreation, changing ... Pigment Movement Some pigments move further than others because of the size of their particles. Smaller, lighter particles will move through the filter paper more swiftly than larger, heavier particles. This is true because smaller, lighter particles are more soluble in solvent, thus allowing them to move further. In addition, a pigments affinity for paper will affect its distance travelled. The more polar a substance is, the greater attractiveness it will have to paper through hydrogen bonding (Jeffrey Saenger 149). The IgG binding domains (A E) each consist of three anti parallel О± helices which are stabilized by hydrophobic regions between them. These domains bind with the Fc region of the immunoglobulin and form a complex with the Fc region. Why The British Led The Industrial Revolution Why the British Led the Industrial Revolution What led Great Britain to become the first country to star in the Industrial Revolution, comes down to a complex system of factors, each aspect holds a major role in the contribution in the growth in the Industrial Revolution and of Great Britain. While much is known about the happenings of the Industrial Revolutionitself, less is acknowledged about the events that were direct causes of the period. Histories and economist have pointed towards several key factors, each working together like well oiled machine. First, beginning with the agriculture revolution which would increase the production of crops as well and decreasing prices. More food meant more trade. Trade then lead to larger desire for goods and with the need of goods arose new technology. Technology increased the production and efficiency of all factories. With the creation of factories, workers were required to help produce and run machines. The prospect of new work drive people to cities and towns. The Industrial Revolution was a cycle that feed itself, with need came technology and with technology came need and through this process arose advanced society which Great Britain led the world forward. • 45. Urban Sprawl In Los Angeles Essay Los Angeles is built on the vast and flat landscape; it was their opportunity to grow fast as a metropolitan. With this environment, the constant influx of population was enough to generate a significant community even outside of downtown. The urban sprawl started on its endless horizontal ground. However, soon they confronted the limit of the carrying capacity. L.A couldn t handle its urban sprawl; it needed a solution to keep growing. Los Angelescouldn t deal with the increasing housing demand and lacking of public space. Compared to other metropolitan, such as New York, Los Angeles showed the dramatic comparison in population density. The urbanized area of Los Angeles was the densest in the country in 1990, more so than even New York City . The 2000 figure for the Los Angeles Long Beach Santa Ana Urbanized area is 7,068 people per square mile, compared to 5,309 for the New York, New jersey Connecticut urbanized area. (Grey 90) In detail, 90 districts of L.A have more than 10,000 people per square mile. Especially Koreatown has the biggest number which is 42,000 square per mile (LA times Sewell 2016). After decades, when it confronted its housing problem due to unaffordability, people finally realized there is no suburban area for them to move or build new housings in Los Angeles. They reached their limit of growing. Unnerving lesson in man s infinite capacity to mess up his environment. (Grey 238) The population kept larger, the price of housing also increased. Los ... • 46. Vladimir Putin Chapter 1 Summary Summary: Chapters 3 4 Vladimir Putin s move from St. Petersburg to Moscow signaled the beginning of the Putin era. Throughout his time in the KGB and as first deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, he was rarely ever seen as a man of high honor and prestige. His positions included advancing the agendas of those around him, but he rarely ever aimed to advance his own career. Despite this lack of ambition, Putin s admirable personality traits and various political connections led to his accelerated rise to power. Upon being officially inaugurated on May 7, 2000, Putin s boldness and authority acted as a saving grace for Russiaand its people. Throughout the 1990s, the state of Russia s economy, politics, and society as a whole was in constant turmoil and disarray. President Yeltsin campaigned on the basis of drastic economic change that would transform Russia from a bleak totalitarian past to a bright and promising democratic future. In order to fight the stagflation caused by the Soviet s command economy, Yeltsin enacted measures of shock therapy to slowly reconstruct the failing economy. These measures included removing government price controls on numerous products, lifting wage controls on various jobs, cutting military spending to spare the budget deficit, and handing out vouchers to citizens in an effort to... • 47. Foils And Foils In Roman Fever By Edith Wharton Opposites don t always attract. In Edith Wharton s Roman Fever , the two main characters seem to be almost complete opposites of each other. In fact, it can be argued that they are actually foils of each other. Foils in literature are described as a foil is a character that shows qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another character with the objective to highlight the traits of the other character (LiteraryDevices Editors). Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade seem to at first be foils of each other, but only on the last page and in the finale act of the story do we see that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade may not be so different after all. Armine Kotin Mortimer in their essay makes this claim, We see each in turn through the somewhat tainted view of the other (Mortimer 189). I agree with this. The two women definitely don t see each other as similar in any way. Mortimer says that the women both see each other as if they themselves as better (Mortimer 189). They are different from each other, but both think lowly other the other. The smaller and paler one shook her head (Wharton 116). The other lady, who was fuller and higher in color... (Wharton 116). These two sentences show us that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade are very different from each other. Mrs. Grace Ansley is a quiet, reserved, pale, small woman(Wharton 116). In turn, Mrs. Alida Slade is a loud, outgoing, large, articulate woman (Wharton 116). The two women seem to be complete opposites of each other in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
