Persuasive Speech On Deforestation
Over half of the world s forests have been destroyed in the last 10,000 years. An extensive fire that
destroys a great deal of land or property could be thought to help benefit the economic or
environmental aspects of daily life, but the society is clueless on the harm it is causing. Nearly half of
the Earth s original forest cover has already been lost and each year an additional 32 million acres are
destroyed. Our world is facing the greatest extinction crisis since the fall of the dinosaurs, 65 million
years ago. The future of many of Earth s plants and animals will be determined within the next few
decades. Hopefully, it comes as no great surprise to you that deforestation is a major problem in many
areas of the world, both in terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deforestation occurs primarily as a result of agriculture, fuel use and production, firewood, charcoal,
timber harvesting, pasture clearing for livestock animals, and expanding human settlements. When
deforestation happens to a country that you live in it can have a huge impact, These deforested areas
almost always end up as wastelands via the processes of soil erosion and desertification, if they aren t
reforested. Many of the areas of the world that were deforested thousands of years ago remain as
severely degraded wastelands or deserts today. Currently, the world s annual rate of deforestation is
estimated to be about 13.7 million hectares a year, which is roughly equal to the total land of Greece.
Half of the areas deforested gets reforested to some degree, but these new growth forests don t
function in the same ways, support the same biodiversity, nor do they provide the many benefits that
old growth forests do cause many societies to eventually collapse if they cannot come up with a better

Banned Language Comments
Today, everyone has electronic device to go online to use social media or read the news daily. When
everyone in the world can communicate with each other anytime they want, there will be the debate
that whether government should moderated the language that people use on internet or not. Some
people believe that aggressive language that people use on internet may hurt other people feeling, and
it could be consider as cyber bully. Hence, they want all of the comment online should be moderated.
However, there are three reasons that people should refute the claim that such comments should be
moderated: First Amendment, conversation, and fearlessness.
First, one of the reasons that people should refute to moderate online comments is the First
Amendment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people want to use the right word to describe their feeling, and they do not feel comfortable
when people limit their language. According to the video Reddit, people do not feel comfortable when
the company delete all of the offensive language comments. When people come to the website that is
for enjoyable, they want to use the word or phrase that can make the joke with other people. They will
feel uncomfortable when the comment that they wrote has been block by the company, it makes them
getting bore at the website since the website does not treat them as other user and delete most of their
comments. The company value is depending on the customer, so the company should give people the
tool that they want. Therefore, the company should allow the users to say whatever they want because
it is the main reason that they come to the website to have fun with other people. In addition, the video
reddit stated that, reddit start banning some accounts that spam and speak offensive language on the
website. When the website starts ban their users for using offensive language, it shows that they do not
want to give people the freedom of speech. The website wants the users to say what they want the
users to say, so there is no enjoyable when people visit the website. Whatever people write on the
website is being control by the company, so there are no chances that people can share what is in their
mind with other people. Hence, the website will no longer have any good discussion on the website
since they keep limit the language that people use on the website. Moderate the comment on the

Rembrandt Self Portrait Analysis
1. Rembrandt Self Portrait with a Wide Brimmed Hat 1632
In the Baroque period, artists started to depict themselves as the main subject matter more often.
Rembrandt had painted a lot of self portraits in his entire life. In his self portrait did in 1632,
Rembrandt is the focus and he is dressed fashionably. Like most of the self portraits in Baroque, he
only painted his upper body so his face can be seen clearly. At the age of 26, Rembrandt showed a
sense of youth and pride in his gaze. The painting is done in a realistic way which the details of
clothing can be seen clearly. Back in the time when camera did not exist, painting is the only way to
capture the world in graphics. Self portrait is the record of a person s physical appearance. At that
period, self portrait was not only appreciated as art but also a record of the people and the society.
2. Van Gogh Self Portrait with Bandaged Ear 1889
At the 19th century, the invention of camera has provided an easier and faster way to keep records.

her fragile and delicate side. There are tears in her eyes and blood vessels on her face. From her gaze,

same time she looks peaceful. Looking into her eyes, she is like staring at something far away,
something that she cannot reach. The painting is painted realistically yet different from the style of

Sigmund Freud s and Carl Rogers Differing Concepts of...
This essay is to describe Sigmund Freud s and Carl Rogers differing concepts of human psychology
concerning determinism. Freud is known to be a determinist. This means that he believes that humans
don t have free will, that there are forces beyond the individuals control which control their actions
and underlying reasons behind behaviours. (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/determinism causal/).
Rogers is known as a non determinist. This is the belief that humans have free will, that they control
their own behaviours, desires and are not bound by laws
(http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/free will?q=free+will). However a new idea
which mostly stems from the cognitive approach has been created called Soft Determinism. This is the
idea that people have a degree of free will. That our behaviours and desires are mostly determined
however we can choose specific ways to act in particular situations.
Freud created the Psychodynamic Approach to explain behaviour. Within it, he describes that there are
3 components of the human mind: The conscious, Pre conscious and Unconscious. The conscious is
the part of the mind which is in our awareness; it contains behaviours and desires which we are aware
of. The pre conscious is the part of the mind between the conscious and unconscious, it contains items
such as memories and desires which we are not currently thinking about but can easily bring to
conscious awareness. Lastly is the unconscious. This part of the mind is

Essay on T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land
T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land Both the hysteric and the mystic transgress the linear syntax and logic
governing the established symbolic order. Helen Bennett It is perhaps part of the unique genius of T.S.
Eliot s The Waste Land that both critics and lay readers have repeatedly felt forced to look outside the
published text of the poem for clues as to its meaning. The text s fragmented, seemingly violated body
seems to exhibit wounds through which its significance has slipped, creating a difficulty caused by the
author s having left out something which the reader is used to finding; so that the reader, bewildered,
gropes about for what is absent...a kind of meaning which is not there, and is not meant to be there ...

Asked to describe what sort of life might spring up out of the stony rubbish (20) of the poem s sterile
landscape by an interlocutor who seems by the force of the allusion to Ezekiel to be a representative of
some sort of transcendent reality, there seems to be no way for the poet to answer. The speaker
continues in almost accusatory tone: You cannot say, or guess, for you know only/ A heap of broken
images (21 22), and it is in this line that Eliot questions the potential for meaning inherent in language.
The self is unable to explicate the nature of this life for his only language is a mere heap a disordered
pile of broken images . Here Eliot describes language as representation, and in this mode it is doubly
useless; first, because it is broken , fragmented and divorced from the very realities it was intended to
describe, and second, because it consists of mere images representations of things and not the things
themselves. One might argue that language, though only a heap of broken images, does achieve a
certain reflexivity here, for in that disordered pile of reflections lies a landscape where the sun beats,/
And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief (22 23). But the space that language presents
here is a sterile, dead one, without evidence of the growth of either root or branch. Absent too are the
Starnbergersee, the shower of rain (9), and the verdant Hofgarten which

My Favorite Day Of The Whole Year Essay
Multicolored lights twinkle on the tiny boughs of an evergreen tree while presents spill out from under
it in every direction. Steamy, delicious smelling dishes cover every available surface. A manger scene,
its figures oddly displaced by little hands, is strewn across the table. The air is so warm that I kicked
my shoes into a corner within minutes of entering the house. Laughter and warm voices are ringing in
my ears, but they somehow feel distant to me. As my five year old cousin darts past my feet, I find
myself retreating to the bathroom, fingers fumbling with the door lock, shaky legs carrying me into
the dry, vacant shower while jerky arms pull the curtain closed around me. It s Christmas Day; it
should be my favorite day of the whole year. It s Christmas Day, and I find myself retreating from it
all. It s Christmas Day, and my whole family has gathered together at my cousin s house. Well, not my
whole family. My dad is hours away, spending Christmas with my half brother and his family.
Christmas and family have meant many things to me over the years, but the one thing they have
always meant to me is mom and dad, Christie and Sarah, and me, all together. This definition is one of
the many things that has been ripped away since my mom asked my dad to leave the house many
months ago in May. It was not supposed to be this way. My parents were supposed to be able to fix
their problems and become the model of a loving Christian marriage that I always longed for. But

Change, Regulation, And Boundaries
Change, Regulation, and Boundaries Life throws many curveballs. Whether it is good or bad it creates
changes throughout an individual s lifetime. For example, the change of getting a promotion at work.
There are two main perspectives to getting a promotion. The first perspective, if viewed positively is
receiving a higher title, better pay, and more benefits which an individual will be more than happy to
accept the change. The second perspective, if viewed negatively is having greater responsibility,
working more hours, and dealing with more people which will most likely slow down the individual s
ability to manage the change. Regardless of the kind of change an individual goes through it is up to
them to manage it effectively and positively. When life has changes it also needs regulation and setting
boundaries in order to manage change effectively. While it is up to the individual, it is important to
find the best ways to manage change, promote good regulation, and create positive boundaries. Before
I enter my future profession as an Accountant I will be going through life with many changes,
following regulation, and creating boundaries for myself. Adapting to all these changes, regulations,
and boundaries will not be easy. It will be my responsibility to find positive ways to manage these
objectives to best fit my character. My first opinion on the best ways to manage change is to stay
positive, be patient, have support, and learning to let go. My second opinion on the

The Collapse Of A Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
In 2008 the world faced the worst financial crisis since the great depression. Many banks closed their
doors for good that year. Among them were both small and large banks. One specific bank that
collapsed that year was IndyMac, one of the largest banks in the United States. IndyMac marked the
largest collapse of a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insured institution since 1984,
when Continental Illinois, which had $40 billion in assets, failed, according to FDIC records ( The
Fall of IndyMac 2008). This paper will talk about the cause of the collapse of IndyMac in 2008, the
handling of the issues, as well as the aftermath of the collapse. IndyMac opened its doors in 1985 but
was originally called Countrywide Mortgage Investment created by David Loeb and Angelo Mozilo. It
was built to collect Countrywide Financial loans that were too large to be sold to Fannie Mae or
Freddie Mac. IndyMac Bank was the largest savings and loan association in the Los Angeles area and
the seventh largest mortgage originator in the United States ( Too Good to Be True: The Fall of
IndyMac , 2008). In 1999, IndyMac loaned out record amounts. In the first quarter alone IndyMac
loaned out $1.6 billion. In July of 2000, IndyMac became IndyMac Bank when it acquired SGV
Bancorp. The total purchase cost was $62.5 million and it made IndyMac Bank the ninth largest bank
at the time. IndyMac was also the 28th biggest lender in the country. In 2004, IndyMac expanded by

Navigating The Global
The reactions of characters towards a growing global culture, whether a retreat or an embrace, are
heavily influenced by personal choices. Within the arena of Navigating the Global, choices are almost
certainly influenced by the circumstances in which they occur, whether this be a choice to keep the
connection to the local, or move towards a more global setting. Three key texts that exemplify this
phenomenon include the film Lost in Translation by Sophia Coppola made in 2003, the Seamus
Heaney s poems Digging (1998) and Personal Helicon , and finally the illustration Globalisation
(2012) by Michael Leunig. All three delve deeply into the interplay between internal choice and
external circumstance. While they do explore how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theme of the globalised world of Japan is relevant to the circumstance that the movie has been set
up in because of Sophia Coppola s 21st century up bringing. The movie itself can be seen as a
comment on the growing global scale of the world, and the multicultural boundaries that are blurring
and changing within the world. Not unlike Lost in Translation, Michael Leunig s cartoon
Globalisation focuses on the move away from the natural and towards embracing an increasingly
global and technological world. The image portrays two human figures in the centre, they are framed
on one side by a stark, black tree that seems to be smouldering as if having just been burnt, and on the
other side by a collection of tall buildings with small windows, seen from a distance. The only text in
the illustration says, What is Globalisation? Globalisation is installing light globes in as many places
as possible on the face of the earth . The pun of Globalisation is used to diminish or even parody the
impact of actual globalisation. The human figures face away from nature and appear to prefer the
cityscape, with their faces upturned with slight smiles. This symbolism of moving away from the
smouldering, suffering tree and towards the seemingly pristine city is used to convey that we, as
humans, are forgetting our original position in nature. He suggests a conscious choice to

The Home Improvement Industry
The U.S. kitchen renovation market reached $17 billion in 2005. Growth in this market was at an all
time high in the mid 2000s, but the economic recession in 2008 also led to a slowdown in this sector.
Research indicated that approximately 75 percent of kitchen remodeling projects were done through
professionals, while 25 percent were completed by homeowners themselves. Most of the DIY projects
were undertaken by lower income homeowners who could not afford to hire professional service firms
(see Exhibit 1 for a breakdown of source of kitchen remodeling services by income). Major kitchen
remodeling projects cost anywhere between $40,000 and $80,000, depending on the choice of
materials (see Exhibit 2 for details on trends in kitchen remodeling costs).
The home renovation industry was highly fragmented; nearly 30 percent of the industry consisted of
private, local companies who reported less than $100,000 in revenue annually.2 The industry included
professional companies, divisions within home stores, small local companies, and independent
contractors. Small companies and independent contractors had

In the result of this conflict, the United States government sent reservation polices to arrest the Sitting
Bull. It was getting more intense when the reservation police shot and killed Sitting Bull because he
was not complying with the order. Shortly after Christmas in 1890, the remaining Sioux sought refuge
at Pine Ridge. Indians had only a few guns, the possibility of resisting the force of the federal
government was absolutely zero. The trooper ordered the Indians turn over their weapons (guns, knife,

big gun on the hill shelled the tepees. Over between 200 and 300 of the original 350 men, women, and

land was taken by White speculators, the Indians were left with nothing. John Collier had attempted to
restore tribal life, but unfortunately no fundamental change took place; Indians stayed on the

Indians, ironically, turned it into a bloody historical event. Many Indians were dead, the population

Jason Film Techniques
Questions
So Jason will your idea of a remake be economically appropriate for the remake of this film?
Why do you believe that they need to show more themes and mateship throughout the film?
Thanks Jason!
In 1981, Peter weir directed a now iconic film on the mateship, tragedies and the affects that war had
on people. In particular he focussed on Australians fighting at Gallipoli. Through his cinematography,
characterisation and symbolism, he demonstrated Australians as a bunch of comrades going on an
adventure through life and he portrays this perfectly through the two main characters, Archie and
Frank. It would be arrogant of us to change this movie in anyway as Weir s film was a tribute to the
soldiers and having a remake just to make money would be selfish and offensive to the men and
women who fought in the war.

Australian desert, showing Frank and Archie gradually closing the gap between each other. This
symbolises their mateship along the journey as they became closer friends. They also focussed a lot on
the lead up to the war to showcase Australia s beautiful scenery and to really create a background for
the characters. Through weir s characterisation, we constantly learn more and more about the main
characters as they become good mates and through his stellar cinematography and symbolism, viewers

how to play and keep a score. At first it was hard to learn, but once I get a hang of it was one of the
best things I learned from my father. I still remember the first time I won a match between me and my

Nursing Fluid Balance Report
The learning objective to be addressed in this essay is to be more adept at filling out a fluid balance
chart and understand its importance. I intend to use the Driscoll (2007) reflective cycle as I find the
root process of interrogating and assessing events the most helpful at being reflective. The fluid and
electrolyte balance monitoring and management are essential and highly significant to nursing care as
highlighted by Jevon and Ewens (2007). Patients suffering from a negative fluid balance is understood
as suffering in dehydration according to the definition of dehydration by Jevon (2010) Some
symptoms of dehydration, as described by Goertz (2006) include thirst, headaches, dry skin, weight

Luckily enough, my mentor remembered and wrote down the urine output for that hour. I was
criticised by my mentor for forgetting to do so and she reminded me of the importance of keeping
rigorously accurate fluid balance chart as post operative patients are at a higher risk of hypovolaemia
and oliguriaThey are at risk of hypovolaemia due to fluid loss during the procedure Hypovolaemia,
the decrease in the volume of blood circulating in the body, can lead to tachycardia. A tachycardic
heart rate is not efficient in oxygen delivery to the organs. The increase of work demand and decrease
of oxygen delivered on the heart can cause rate related ischaemia (Hutchins, 2013). A study conducted
by Vaughn et. al (2014) showed that oliguria, which left untreated can lead to tubular necrosis and
acute kidney injury (AKI)..She reminded me of its importance in delivering excellent care and
ensuring the patient s good health. The chastisement that I received from my mentor made me feel
somewhat disappointed as I felt that such a simple mistake could have been easily avoided. Her
reminder of the importance of giving the highest quality of care also made me realise the importance
of little thing in the care of the patient. Little things, when put together, make something big and
significant. Although I was disappointed with myself for making such a trivial mistake, I soon realised
that my mentor gave me an important job which I should have been more careful with. I understood
that I am accountable for my actions and partly accountable for whatever outcome may befall to the
patient. Moments afterwards, I accepted my mistake and was soon eager to prove myself and be

The Holy Virgin Church in Harat Zuwayla
Forms and Symbolism: Manifestation of Christian Beliefs in Art and Architecture
Picture showing the altar of the church
Christianity was first introduced to Egypt through the teachings of Saint Mark the Evangelist, the
founder of the Coptic Church and the writer of the oldest gospel available to date. As a result, various
worshiping houses or churches were built in Egypt throughout the Coptic era. These churches were
deeply influenced by the Christian beliefs and this can be clearly seen in their interior and exterior
structure. One good example of an ancient church founded long ago in Egypt is the Holy Virgin
Church in Harat Zuwayla.
The Holy Virgin Church in Harat Zuwayla is one of, if not the oldest churches in Egypt. As El Makrizi
once said, it was founded around 352 AD before the city of Cairo was to be known by almost 6
centuries. During the Holy family s flight while visiting Egypt, they passed by the church s location,
they rested and took shelter in Harat Zuwayla where there was a well which was believed to be
blessed by the Christ.

Abstract
This study examines effects that modern technology/media influence on students and family
dynamics. Most of us do not need the results of a nationwide report to recognize that media have
become an indispensable component and major influence in our everyday lives. A powerful tool, that
contemporary society uses not only to entertain but also to communicate and educate, there is an ever
present availability to media access. However, there is an ongoing debate over whether or not the
power of this influence and its ubiquitous availability yields positive or negative consequences in
different aspects of our lives.

Debt Relief Initiatives in Poor Countries
Debt Relief initiative
Many governmental and non governmental organizations argued that external constraint like high
inherited levels of foreign debt have crippled in the capacity of low income countries to overcome
poverty and that concessional lending s are not enough. This lead to the Enhanced Heavily Indebted
Poor Country (HIPC) initiative in 1996 in collaboration with world bank to eliminate unsustainable
debt in the world s poorest and most heavily indebted countries.
A summit meeting in 1999 expanded the spectrum of eligible countries for debt relief with higher and
faster reliefs. This came to be known as Enhanced HIPC Initiative.
The aim of Enhanced HIPC initiative was to achieve a level of indebtedness that would enable the
country to service its debt in a sustainable manner. The program compares the actual level of
indebtedness and debt servicing burden to a constant theoretical sustainable level which is
predetermined by the large industrial countries to which these debt are owed. Currently, the maximum
net present value of sustainable debt to exports is 150 percent (of traditional 200% 250%) or debt to
fiscal revenue is 250 percent (of traditional 280%). The enable countries qualify for debt relief in two
stages:
In the first stage:
The debtor s country has to create a satisfactory track record in an IMF or IDA program and
demonstrate the capacity to use IMF assistance prudently. Once the country is considered eligible, the
data is processed.

Comparison Of Friendship Between Of Mice And Men
Friendship from Of Mice and Men and Friendship In an Age of Economics
In the modern age friendship comes in many different shapes and sizes. There s the good and there s
the bad. You might even find some types of friendships surprising, for example an entrepreneurial
relationship . In the book Of Mice and Men Lennie and George are friends, but not very good friends.
George is unfortunately friends with Lennie for the wrong reasons.
Friendship, according to Aristotle there are 3 definitions of friendship. Friendship of Utility, thus
friends whose affection is based on utility do not love each other in themselves, but in so far as some
benefit accrues to them from each other. Friendship of Pleasure, And similarly with those whose
friendship is based on pleasure: for instance, we enjoy the society of witty people not because of what
they are in themselves, but because they are agreeable to us. Friendship of the Good. The perfect form
of friendship is that between the good, and those who resemble each other in virtue. For these friends
wish each alike the other s good in respect of their goodness, and they are good in themselves; but it is
those who wish the good of their friends for their friends sake who are friends in the fullest sense,
since they love each other for themselves and not accidentally. Hence the ... Show more content on

CPG Boot Camp Observation Report
Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the 2017 CPG Boot Camp that will cover From Economic
Challenges to Transformation Opportunities. I believe the title is appropriate as challenges must be
thought of as opportunities. Currently I serve as rector at a nearly 150 year old multi generational
parish with an ASA of 52 in a rural town of approximately 5000 people. Similar to other small rural
towns in the south there are multiple churches in the area.
While there are multiple opportunities for worship, none of the churches are at seating capacity for
their services each week. This observation creates a belief that I would be able to reach without
difficulty new members for St. Luke s, creating growth opportunities in the congregation. ... Show

We have begun implementing ministry teams in the congregation, therefore putting some of the tasks
onto the congregation. It has been my experience that the clergy have taken on the majority of these
tasks. The priest does provide leadership and direction, however the priest cannot be successful
without the support of the congregation.
My belief that the congregation can embrace and is ready for changes is verified in reading the parish
profile that was out together two years ago before I was called as rector. One of the top three items is
Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to reach new people and incorporate them into the
life of the church. As a priest that is comfortable trying new strategies and directions, I find it
refreshing that the congregation will likely not be resistant to new ideas.
Where I cannot compare ministry to my past career s, there are similar aspects I have used over the
years that can assist in the development of new systems and strategies. Leveraging my understanding
of data collection and analysis will benefit this process, as I have a firm background in that

Helicopter Parenting Research Paper
Protective parents have been around forever, but has it reached its extremity? Helicopter parenting is
the newest trend in today s society, it is a way of raising children in a very stern, controlled, and
structured manner. Helicopter parents control their children s lives with strict rules and often complete
tasks for the children that are unnecessary all to protect their children. This child raising strategy most
often incorporates an element of babying , such as making their teenager s lunch for them every day,
doing their child s homework and projects for them, and not letting their child go anywhere alone even
when they are in well into their teen years. The effects of helicopter parenting have an enormous

Children who have helicopter parents never learn to be accountable for their actions because their
parents constantly did everything for them. They have a fear of failure, a lack of confidence, and co
dependency issues (Blau). The children also, as a result of being sheltered by their parents, have
decreased confidence and self esteem, undeveloped coping skills, increased anxiety, a sense of
entitlement, and undeveloped life skills. These children are just not capable of doing things for
themselves and this leads to many issues later in life. However, helicopter parenting is not always a
horrible thing. Studies have shown that physical abuse has dropped astonishingly, from 1992 to 2011
the rates dropped by 55%. The same thing happened to counts of sexual abuse, it fell by 64% through
the same year range. The number of abductions by strangers fell by 51% from 1997 to 2012, and
motor vehicle deaths of children under 13 years of age fell 43% in the last decade (Baer). This study
equates the drops to the rise of helicopter parents. Although counts of physical harm have dropped, an
in depth study was done by Florida State University that surveyed around 460 college students about
their life satisfaction levels. Those who had been raised by parents who gave them a larger sense of
autonomy reported higher levels of satisfaction in life and those who reported having helicopter
parents reported low levels of self efficacy, and higher levels of anxiety and depression ( Helicopter
Parents ). So, even though accidents and physical harm to children have been reduced, the
psychological harm is quite prominent and will follow the child throughout their

Unit 2 Making Food Dye Lab
Lab II: Making Food Dye
By:
Alexander Medina
Lab Partners:
Maxwell Yurs, Eugene Floersch, Masih Harri
Abstract
In this paper, an artificial food dye will be made to mimic the color of Full Throttle. To determine
what food dye are needed, Full Throttle will be put through a spectrometer to determine what
wavelengths are absorbed. Specific wavelengths absorbed will correspond to specific colors absorbed.
It was determined that yellow 5 and yellow 6 will be used to make our artificial food dye to mimic
Full Throttle. Using Beer s Law, it was determined that a concentration of 0.0000236 moles of Yellow
5 and a concentration of 0.0001494 moles of yellow 6. Using our line of best fit from the absorption
graphs, it was determined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When making the absorption graphs for the yellow 5 and yellow 6, the lines of best fit were giving
numbers that were extremely small. After help from the TA, it was found that our concentrations used
where twice as small of a concentration compared to what was actually used for Full Throttle. To
correct this the molarity s were multiplied by ½. For example when finding the x value in our equation
y=2.044x+0.2067 the answer is x = 7.28 5 moles. To correct this, that number is multiplied by 0.5 to
get the correct value of 3.64*10^ 5. This new number is what was used in the equation c1v1=c2v2.
After the solution was made to mimic Full Throttle it was discovered that the beverage only had one
food dye. The experiment was intended to have a beverage with two food dyes present. To make up
for this, orange PowerAde was used and the experiment was repeated for orange PowerAde. The
solution was made for the orange PowerAde and its absorption graph was compared to that of the
diluted orange PowerAde solution. Comparing the two graphs, have the same peaks although these
peaks are at different absorption levels. Since the two graphs have the same peaks it is safe to assume
that the same food dyes are present in both solutions. It is important to note that there are two peaks in
each graph despite only seeing one peak. This is because both peaks are located so close to each other
that they merge as one overall peak. When comparing the two

courage to go back to the plantations that she once lived on, just to help free other slaves. Harriet
Tubman is a heroic figure because when she became free, she did not run and leave all the other
slaves, she kept on going back to help them. Initially, when Harriet became free, she could have run to

Multilingualism And The European Union
MULTILINGUALISM AND LEGAL CERTAINTY IN THE EUROPEAN UNION
«Nous ne coalisons pas des Etats, nous unissons des peuples »
These words, pronounced by Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of the European Union, well
summarize the values underlying the Union s approach towards multilingualism.
In the following lines, I will briefly analyse the competing forces that concurred to the introduction of
multilingualism in the EU, the main legal issues that it creates in terms of legal certainty and how the
CJEU seems to be approaching them.
SOME HISTORY
The Union s approach to multilingualism is strictly linked to its political transformation from a purely
economic entity (ECCS) to a peculiar new legal order , which finds its legitimacy in ... Show more

Council Regulation 1/58, which significantly was the first act of the EEC, recognizes today 23 official
and working languages of the Union.
UNITED IN DIVERSITY
EU multilingualism constitutes the result of historical and political tensions. As the Union s legal
system as a whole, it reflects a compromise between the Member States will to both protect their
sovereignty and national identity and to enhance their cooperation .
On the one hand, language, as an expression of sovereignty, represents a symbolic affirmation of
power that Member States have traditionally been reluctant to give up .
On the other hand, the EU represents a reaction to the negation of rights of the II WW, which inter alia
lead to the strong affirmation of national languages over the foreign and minority ones . This is why
the Treaties embedded almost from the outset those individual linguistic rights recognized only a few
years earlier by Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In this sense, the Union s multilingualism can be seen both negatively, as preservation of the national
identities of its Member States, and positively, as one of its most ambitious democratic goals.
LEGAL ISSUES OF EUROPEAN MULTILINGUALISM
EU multilingualism creates however a number of legal issues.
Firstly, having more than one official language inevitably leads to incoherencies between the different
versions of the same legal

Breakfast Club Character Evaluations Essay
The Breakfast Club was a movie about five very different characters, Claire, Andrew, Brian, Allison,
and John Bender. Claire was a popular girl, Andrew was a wrestler (jock), Brian was intellectually
gifted, Allison was a basket case, and John Bender was a rebel. On the outside they seem like very
different people, in fact they were all socially opposite, but they also shared so much.
As the movie starts out, the five teenagers are being punished with Saturday detention; their
assignment for the next eight hours was to right a paper entitled Who Am I? Their most probable
assumption was from them to write about their achievements. Being students in America, we are all

her parents and the only way she can escape that destiny is to be with friends as much as possible,
liking going to the mall and doing other stuff that she has built up in her mind of being cool. Bender
was hated by his parents and probably was an accident. The way his parents treated him built up this
image of himself in his mind that was negative; and therefore, made him negative. Brian was pushed
to over achieve by his parents and so when he finally got an F he thought that it was the end of the
world, when in fact he most likely doesn t care. He does not think for himself, he thinks, What are my
parents going to think? Andrew thinks the same way. He stated openly that he does not care if he wins
or loses, and that he sometimes wishes that his leg would give so that he would not have to wrestle
anymore. Last, Alison was ignored by her parents; forcing her to think that everyone must ignore her.
All of the characters in the movie show fear of rejection. Andrew, fearing rejection from his father,
hurt another student mentally and physically because he believed that what his father would want.
Brian shows the fear of rejection also in that he thinks that his F would make his family not love him

Sleepwalking Essay
Sleepwalking
Somnambulism, or sleepwalking, belongs to a group of parasomnias. This disorder of arousal is
characterized by complex motor behaviors initiated during stages 3 and 4 of non rapid eye movement
(NREM) sleep (slow wave sleep) (3). Behaviors during sleepwalking episodes can vary greatly. Some
episodes are limited to sitting up, fumbling and getting dressed, while others include more complex
behaviors such as walking, driving a car, or preparing a meal (2). After awakening, the sleepwalker
usually has no recollection of what has happened and may appear confused and disoriented. The
behaviors performed while sleepwalking are said to be autonomous automatisms. These are nonrelfex
actions performed without conscious volition and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stage is believed to help people enter deeper stages of sleep (4). Stage 3 sleep consists of 20 50
percent delta activity and stage 4 sleep of more than 50 percents delta activity (4). Stages 3 and 4 are
characterized as being slow wave sleep in addition to being the deepest levels of sleep. Approximately
90 minutes after being asleep, people enter rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (4). REM sleep consists
of rapid eye movements, a desynchronized EEG, sensitivity to external stimulation, muscle paralysis
and dreaming (4).
Sleepwalking occurs during stages 3 and 4 of the sleep cycle, the deepest levels of sleep. This slow
wave sleep is normally characterized by synchronized EEG activity (4). This indicates that mental
activity is very low during these stages of sleep. However researchers have shown that the EEG of a
sleepwalker has diffuse, rhythmic, high voltage bursts of delta activity associated with abrupt motor
activity (1). This is very different from the EEG activity normally associated with slow wave sleep. In
addition to the EEG results, they found that there is a decrease in regional cerebral blood flow in the
frontopariental cortices during sleepwalking (1). This indicates that sleepwalking is a dissociated state
consisting of motor arousal and persisting mind sleep, which seems to arise from the selective
activation of thalamocingulate circuits and the persisting inhibition of other thalamocortical arousal
systems (3).

Biofeedback
Biofeedback is a technique were people are taught to become aware of there body, and learn to control
involuntary processes. It is not known why biofeedback works, but studies have shown that it
functions best with patients who have illnesses that are stress related. This practice came to be in
laboratory studies in the 1940 s. It is considered one of the earliest behavioral medicine treatments ,
but did not gain much popularity until the 1950 s. It was found to be a mixture of many scientific
experiments such as altered states of consciousness and operant conditioning. These findings were
combined to form the now popular treatment. Although scientists do not necessarily know how exactly
biofeedback works, it is thought that because of the non focused, non goal oriented state of
consciousness, subjects are able to release physiological tensions, soften interpersonal relating, and

How Black Is Black In Shakespeare s Othello
In othello there is a obvious difference in the way how black s AKA moor s are treated in the play.
Everything that happens in the play revolves around othello and the simple fact that he is black. This

the play.the fact that he is black can mean one of two things; 1.) othello is the victim int all of the play

The Theme in The Minister’s Black Veil Essay

Hawthorne s main theme to be in his short stories:
This technique, though Hawthorne s is different from that of European writers, creates analogies
between self and not self, between personality and the worlds. . . .Henceforth Hawthorne s theme is
the redemption of the self through the acceptance and exploitation of what society terms the guilt of

The theme arises from the central conflict in the tale, which is an internal one, a spiritual moral
conflict within the minister, the Reverend Mr. Hooper. Everything he has to say is related, finally, to
that inward sphere (McPherson 68 69). The minister s absorption into the problems of his inner sphere
cause the draping of the crape veil and the resultant alienation from people.
At the outset of the tale, The Minister s Black Veil, the sexton is tolling the church bell and
simultaneously watching Mr. Hooper s door, when suddenly he says, ``But what has good Parson
Hooper got upon his face? The surprise which the sexton displayed is repeated in the astonishment of
the onlookers: With one accord they started, expressing more wonder. . . The reason is this: Swathed

meant by this is that if the improper systems and storage units are installed to only handle data over
the next year this is only going to force Kudler to spend more money in upgrades in the future. This is
why it is vital to install the proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These systems will be replaced with one the recent releases of Microsoft Server to provide the support
needed for the new network. These systems are important to the network as they are the brains to the
network and will be control not only the authentication of the network, but access to the storage
servers as well.
Both the XSL and Novell servers not only be replace, but instead of having these systems in two
locations they will be moved to the Delmar location which will provide a central location for server
management. This will cut down on the down to have Network admins at both sites which in turn also
saves Kudler Fine Foods money. The other benefit to moving the server to a central location is that it
will provide an easier maintenance program. Instead of going to two different sites now the servers
can be serviced at one location. The last and final problem on the network is the UPS power unit
installed at all sites. At this point this may provide enough power to the take care of the current

Review Of Peter Doig s Painting Blotter
I have chosen Peter Doig as my inspirational artist from seeing the painting Blotter ; Painted in Oil on
Canvas at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. I was immediately drawn to the figurative style in
which he paints that led me to look further at his work, I have discovered a plethora of pieces that I
could draw inspiration for my final piece. Doig ’s paintings are often based on photographs and
memories, but are not painted in a realistic form. I admire the way he uses reflections and layers of
unusual colours which I feel emanates calmness and adds more depth and meaning to his paintings, I
also like the way he mystifyingly interprets scenes with extraordinary angles using darker hues to
contrast against white snowy terrains which

A Brief Note On The Law Of Copyright
Diana Rios
Professor Proctor
Enc 1102
December 15, 2015
Law of Copyright Technology today plays a huge role in all aspects of a modern day by day society.
As technology is used in all different fields, it is expected to continue improving over time to make
daily tasks an unchallenging experience to perform for the average person. It provides security for
creators, writers, artist, etc. from others benefiting from their work therefore providing better
confidence in creativity and boosting economic growth.
On April 10, 1710 the British Statute of Anne An Act for the Encouragement of Learning by Vesting
the Copies of Printed Books in the Authors or Purchasers of such Copies, during the Times Therein
Mentioned was the first copyright statue that took effect. In those times the Law of Copyright only
applied to the copying of books. In both England and United States this famous statue remains the
foundation of copyright law. As society changes, the Law has adapted for other uses like translations
and expressive creation that may include copyright protected elements. The new modification to the
law now covers a wide range of works. These rights protect the work of books, manuscripts, plays,
computer programs, works of art, maps, architectural plans, musical scores, sound recordings, and
films. Luckily over time copyright law has changed to benefit creators of original works. While most
people argue that these copyright laws protect the goods of many artists original works

PRIVATIZATION OF AIRPORTS
Conceptual Understanding of the term Privatization
Privatization is a generally a process through which the ownership and control of a government entity
is transferred to a private entity. The transfer can be either in whole or partial. Different connotations
of the term privatization as enumerated in various articles and journals are as follows :
1. Movement of an entity from the federal government to a local or quasi governmental agency where
a private sector mode would be used.
2. Political policy of the national government.
3. Government entity which is partially owned by private sector.
4. Transfer of state owned enterprises to private economic agents in order to gain the benefits
occurring under private ownership.
5. Contracting out of service delivery to private organisation.
6. Policy of structural change that might cause state owned enterprises to behave like private firms.
7. Expansion of Private sector participation without ownership.
8. Private Sector Financing.

Commercialisation and Airport Privatization as follows: Airport commercialization: The
transformation of an airport from a public utility to a commercial enterprise and the adoption of a
more businesslike management philosophy. Airport privatization: The transfer of the management of
an airport, and in many cases the ownership as well, to the private sector by a variety

Chain Drive Garage Door Opener Essay
Chain and belt garage door openers work in a similar way, the difference between them being the way
the drive system works. If you are undecided about which types of garage door opener to choose, you
should read the following lines to inform yourself on all their pros and cons, taking a decision only
after knowing everything there is to know about them. Pros and cons of chain drive garage door
openers As the name suggests it, chain drive garage door openers use a metal chain to open and close
the garage door, the chain sliding along the stationary rail to perform the action of lifting and
lowering. The pros of chain drive garage door openers are that they cost on average at least $100 less
than belt drive garage door openers, they are a lot more common, being very easy ... Show more

The pros of garage door openers are that they are smoother when operating, meaning that they won t
cause the garage door to bounce when it opens and closes, they are faster than chain drive garage door
openers due to the fact that the belt slides faster up and down the rail, and they are ideal for those who
have garages located near bedrooms because they are very quite while operating. The cons of belt
drive garage door openers are that they aren t as strong as chain drive garage door openers, the belt
being more likely to break or snap due to the fact that it s made from rubber, and that they are more
expensive than chain drive garage door openers, costing at least $100 more. The only way to be sure
that what you are buying is exactly what you need, you first have to inform yourself about that item.
Keeping this in mind, if you are caught between choosing a chain or a belt drive garage door opener,
you should read this article to find out all their pros and cons to make sure you re taking the right

An extensive fire that destroys a great deal of land or property could be thought to help benefit the economic or environmental aspects of daily life, but the society is clueless on the harm it is causing. Nearly half of the Earth s original forest cover has already been lost and each year an additional 32 million acres are destroyed. Our world is facing the greatest extinction crisis since the fall of the dinosaurs, 65 million years ago. When deforestation happens to a country that you live in it can have a huge impact, These deforested areas almost always end up as wastelands via the processes of soil erosion and desertification, if they aren t reforested. Many of the areas of the world that were deforested thousands of years ago remain as severely degraded wastelands or deserts today. Currently, the world s annual rate of deforestation is estimated to be about 13.7 million hectares a year, which is roughly equal to the total land of Greece. Half of the areas deforested gets reforested to some degree, but these new growth forests don t function in the same ways, support the same biodiversity, nor do they provide the many benefits that old growth forests do cause many societies to eventually collapse if they cannot come up with a better ... Rembrandt had painted a lot of self portraits in his entire life. In his self portrait did in 1632, Rembrandt is the focus and he is dressed fashionably. Like most of the self portraits in Baroque, he only painted his upper body so his face can be seen clearly. At the age of 26, Rembrandt showed a sense of youth and pride in his gaze. The painting is done in a realistic way which the details of clothing can be seen clearly. Back in the time when camera did not exist, painting is the only way to capture the world in graphics. Self portrait is the record of a person s physical appearance. At that period, self portrait was not only appreciated as art but also a record of the people and the society. 2. • 5. Sigmund Freud s and Carl Rogers Differing Concepts of... This essay is to describe Sigmund Freud s and Carl Rogers differing concepts of human psychology concerning determinism. Freud is known to be a determinist. This means that he believes that humans don t have free will, that there are forces beyond the individuals control which control their actions and underlying reasons behind behaviours. (http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/determinism causal/). Rogers is known as a non determinist. This is the belief that humans have free will, that they control their own behaviours, desires and are not bound by laws (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/free will?q=free+will). However a new idea which mostly stems from the cognitive approach has been created called Soft Determinism. This is the idea that people have a degree of free will. That our behaviours and desires are mostly determined however we can choose specific ways to act in particular situations. Freud created the Psychodynamic Approach to explain behaviour. Within it, he describes that there are 3 components of the human mind: The conscious, Pre conscious and Unconscious. The conscious is the part of the mind which is in our awareness; it contains behaviours and desires which we are aware of. The pre conscious is the part of the mind between the conscious and unconscious, it contains items such as memories and desires which we are not currently thinking about but can easily bring to conscious awareness. • 6. Essay on T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land Both the hysteric and the mystic transgress the linear syntax and logic governing the established symbolic order. Helen Bennett It is perhaps part of the unique genius of T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land that both critics and lay readers have repeatedly felt forced to look outside the published text of the poem for clues as to its meaning. The text s fragmented, seemingly violated body seems to exhibit wounds through which its significance has slipped, creating a difficulty caused by the author s having left out something which the reader is used to finding; so that the reader, bewildered, gropes about for what is absent...a kind of meaning which is not there, and is not meant to be there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Asked to describe what sort of life might spring up out of the stony rubbish (20) of the poem s sterile landscape by an interlocutor who seems by the force of the allusion to Ezekiel to be a representative of some sort of transcendent reality, there seems to be no way for the poet to answer. The speaker continues in almost accusatory tone: You cannot say, or guess, for you know only/ A heap of broken images (21 22), and it is in this line that Eliot questions the potential for meaning inherent in language. The self is unable to explicate the nature of this life for his only language is a mere heap a disordered pile of broken images . Here Eliot describes language as representation, and in this mode it is doubly useless; first, because it is broken , fragmented and divorced from the very realities it was intended to describe, and second, because it consists of mere images representations of things and not the things themselves. One might argue that language, though only a heap of broken images, does achieve a certain reflexivity here, for in that disordered pile of reflections lies a landscape where the sun beats,/ And the dead tree gives no shelter, the cricket no relief (22 23). But the space that language presents here is a sterile, dead one, without evidence of the growth of either root or branch. Absent too are the Starnbergersee, the shower of rain (9), and the verdant Hofgarten which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. My Favorite Day Of The Whole Year Essay Multicolored lights twinkle on the tiny boughs of an evergreen tree while presents spill out from under it in every direction. Steamy, delicious smelling dishes cover every available surface. A manger scene, its figures oddly displaced by little hands, is strewn across the table. The air is so warm that I kicked my shoes into a corner within minutes of entering the house. Laughter and warm voices are ringing in my ears, but they somehow feel distant to me. As my five year old cousin darts past my feet, I find myself retreating to the bathroom, fingers fumbling with the door lock, shaky legs carrying me into the dry, vacant shower while jerky arms pull the curtain closed around me. It s Christmas Day; it should be my favorite day of the whole year. It s Christmas Day, and I find myself retreating from it all. It s Christmas Day, and my whole family has gathered together at my cousin s house. Well, not my whole family. My dad is hours away, spending Christmas with my half brother and his family. • 8. Change, Regulation, And Boundaries Change, Regulation, and Boundaries Life throws many curveballs. Whether it is good or bad it creates changes throughout an individual s lifetime. For example, the change of getting a promotion at work. There are two main perspectives to getting a promotion. The first perspective, if viewed positively is receiving a higher title, better pay, and more benefits which an individual will be more than happy to accept the change. The second perspective, if viewed negatively is having greater responsibility, working more hours, and dealing with more people which will most likely slow down the individual s ability to manage the change. Regardless of the kind of change an individual goes through it is up to them to manage it effectively and positively. When life has changes it also needs regulation and setting boundaries in order to manage change effectively. While it is up to the individual, it is important to find the best ways to manage change, promote good regulation, and create positive boundaries. Before I enter my future profession as an Accountant I will be going through life with many changes, following regulation, and creating boundaries for myself. Adapting to all these changes, regulations, and boundaries will not be easy. It will be my responsibility to find positive ways to manage these objectives to best fit my character. My first opinion on the best ways to manage change is to stay positive, be patient, have support, and learning to let go. My second opinion on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Navigating The Global The reactions of characters towards a growing global culture, whether a retreat or an embrace, are heavily influenced by personal choices. Within the arena of Navigating the Global, choices are almost certainly influenced by the circumstances in which they occur, whether this be a choice to keep the connection to the local, or move towards a more global setting. Three key texts that exemplify this phenomenon include the film Lost in Translation by Sophia Coppola made in 2003, the Seamus Heaney s poems Digging (1998) and Personal Helicon , and finally the illustration Globalisation (2012) by Michael Leunig. This theme of the globalised world of Japan is relevant to the circumstance that the movie has been set up in because of Sophia Coppola s 21st century up bringing. The movie itself can be seen as a comment on the growing global scale of the world, and the multicultural boundaries that are blurring and changing within the world. Not unlike Lost in Translation, Michael Leunig s cartoon Globalisation focuses on the move away from the natural and towards embracing an increasingly global and technological world. The image portrays two human figures in the centre, they are framed on one side by a stark, black tree that seems to be smouldering as if having just been burnt, and on the other side by a collection of tall buildings with small windows, seen from a distance. The only text in the illustration says, What is Globalisation? Globalisation is installing light globes in as many places as possible on the face of the earth . The pun of Globalisation is used to diminish or even parody the impact of actual globalisation. The human figures face away from nature and appear to prefer the cityscape, with their faces upturned with slight smiles. This symbolism of moving away from the smouldering, suffering tree and towards the seemingly pristine city is used to convey that we, as humans, are forgetting our original position in nature. Why do you believe that they need to show more themes and mateship throughout the film? Thanks Jason! In 1981, Peter weir directed a now iconic film on the mateship, tragedies and the affects that war had on people. In particular he focussed on Australians fighting at Gallipoli. Through his cinematography, characterisation and symbolism, he demonstrated Australians as a bunch of comrades going on an adventure through life and he portrays this perfectly through the two main characters, Archie and Frank. • 20. Debt Relief Initiatives in Poor Countries Debt Relief initiative Many governmental and non governmental organizations argued that external constraint like high inherited levels of foreign debt have crippled in the capacity of low income countries to overcome poverty and that concessional lending s are not enough. This lead to the Enhanced Heavily Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) initiative in 1996 in collaboration with world bank to eliminate unsustainable debt in the world s poorest and most heavily indebted countries. A summit meeting in 1999 expanded the spectrum of eligible countries for debt relief with higher and faster reliefs. This came to be known as Enhanced HIPC Initiative. The aim of Enhanced HIPC initiative was to achieve a level of indebtedness that would enable the country to service its debt in a sustainable manner. The program compares the actual level of indebtedness and debt servicing burden to a constant theoretical sustainable level which is predetermined by the large industrial countries to which these debt are owed. Currently, the maximum net present value of sustainable debt to exports is 150 percent (of traditional 200% 250%) or debt to fiscal revenue is 250 percent (of traditional 280%). The enable countries qualify for debt relief in two stages: In the first stage: The debtor s country has to create a satisfactory track record in an IMF or IDA program and demonstrate the capacity to use IMF assistance prudently. There s the good and there s the bad. You might even find some types of friendships surprising, for example an entrepreneurial relationship . In the book Of Mice and Men Lennie and George are friends, but not very good friends. George is unfortunately friends with Lennie for the wrong reasons. Friendship, according to Aristotle there are 3 definitions of friendship. Friendship of Utility, thus friends whose affection is based on utility do not love each other in themselves, but in so far as some benefit accrues to them from each other. Friendship of Pleasure, And similarly with those whose friendship is based on pleasure: for instance, we enjoy the society of witty people not because of what they are in themselves, but because they are agreeable to us. Friendship of the Good. The perfect form of friendship is that between the good, and those who resemble each other in virtue. For these friends wish each alike the other s good in respect of their goodness, and they are good in themselves; but it is those who wish the good of their friends for their friends sake who are friends in the fullest sense, since they love each other for themselves and not accidentally. I believe the title is appropriate as challenges must be thought of as opportunities. Currently I serve as rector at a nearly 150 year old multi generational parish with an ASA of 52 in a rural town of approximately 5000 people. Similar to other small rural towns in the south there are multiple churches in the area. Helicopter parenting is the newest trend in today s society, it is a way of raising children in a very stern, controlled, and structured manner. Helicopter parents control their children s lives with strict rules and often complete tasks for the children that are unnecessary all to protect their children. This child raising strategy most often incorporates an element of babying , such as making their teenager s lunch for them every day, doing their child s homework and projects for them, and not letting their child go anywhere alone even when they are in well into their teen years. Children who have helicopter parents never learn to be accountable for their actions because their parents constantly did everything for them. They have a fear of failure, a lack of confidence, and co dependency issues (Blau). The children also, as a result of being sheltered by their parents, have decreased confidence and self esteem, undeveloped coping skills, increased anxiety, a sense of entitlement, and undeveloped life skills. These children are just not capable of doing things for themselves and this leads to many issues later in life. However, helicopter parenting is not always a horrible thing. Studies have shown that physical abuse has dropped astonishingly, from 1992 to 2011 the rates dropped by 55%. The same thing happened to counts of sexual abuse, it fell by 64% through the same year range. The number of abductions by strangers fell by 51% from 1997 to 2012, and motor vehicle deaths of children under 13 years of age fell 43% in the last decade (Baer). This study equates the drops to the rise of helicopter parents. Although counts of physical harm have dropped, an in depth study was done by Florida State University that surveyed around 460 college students about their life satisfaction levels. Those who had been raised by parents who gave them a larger sense of autonomy reported higher levels of satisfaction in life and those who reported having helicopter parents reported low levels of self efficacy, and higher levels of anxiety and depression ( Helicopter Parents ). Unit 2 Making Food Dye Lab Lab II: Making Food Dye By: Alexander Medina Lab Partners: Maxwell Yurs, Eugene Floersch, Masih Harri Abstract In this paper, an artificial food dye will be made to mimic the color of Full Throttle. To determine what food dye are needed, Full Throttle will be put through a spectrometer to determine what wavelengths are absorbed. Specific wavelengths absorbed will correspond to specific colors absorbed. It was determined that yellow 5 and yellow 6 will be used to make our artificial food dye to mimic Full Throttle. When making the absorption graphs for the yellow 5 and yellow 6, the lines of best fit were giving numbers that were extremely small. After help from the TA, it was found that our concentrations used where twice as small of a concentration compared to what was actually used for Full Throttle. To correct this the molarity s were multiplied by ½. For example when finding the x value in our equation y=2.044x+0.2067 the answer is x = 7.28 5 moles. To correct this, that number is multiplied by 0.5 to get the correct value of 3.64*10^ 5. This new number is what was used in the equation c1v1=c2v2. After the solution was made to mimic Full Throttle it was discovered that the beverage only had one food dye. The experiment was intended to have a beverage with two food dyes present. To make up for this, orange PowerAde was used and the experiment was repeated for orange PowerAde. The solution was made for the orange PowerAde and its absorption graph was compared to that of the diluted orange PowerAde solution. Comparing the two graphs, have the same peaks although these peaks are at different absorption levels. Since the two graphs have the same peaks it is safe to assume that the same food dyes are present in both solutions. UNITED IN DIVERSITY EU multilingualism constitutes the result of historical and political tensions. As the Union s legal system as a whole, it reflects a compromise between the Member States will to both protect their sovereignty and national identity and to enhance their cooperation . On the one hand, language, as an expression of sovereignty, represents a symbolic affirmation of power that Member States have traditionally been reluctant to give up . On the other hand, the EU represents a reaction to the negation of rights of the II WW, which inter alia lead to the strong affirmation of national languages over the foreign and minority ones . This is why the Treaties embedded almost from the outset those individual linguistic rights recognized only a few years earlier by Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In this sense, the Union s multilingualism can be seen both negatively, as preservation of the national identities of its Member States, and positively, as one of its most ambitious democratic goals. Approximately 90 minutes after being asleep, people enter rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (4). REM sleep consists of rapid eye movements, a desynchronized EEG, sensitivity to external stimulation, muscle paralysis and dreaming (4). Sleepwalking occurs during stages 3 and 4 of the sleep cycle, the deepest levels of sleep. This slow wave sleep is normally characterized by synchronized EEG activity (4). This indicates that mental activity is very low during these stages of sleep. However researchers have shown that the EEG of a sleepwalker has diffuse, rhythmic, high voltage bursts of delta activity associated with abrupt motor activity (1). This is very different from the EEG activity normally associated with slow wave sleep. In addition to the EEG results, they found that there is a decrease in regional cerebral blood flow in the frontopariental cortices during sleepwalking (1). This indicates that sleepwalking is a dissociated state consisting of motor arousal and persisting mind sleep, which seems to arise from the selective activation of thalamocingulate circuits and the persisting inhibition of other thalamocortical arousal systems (3). It was found to be a mixture of many scientific experiments such as altered states of consciousness and operant conditioning. These findings were combined to form the now popular treatment.
