George Homans And Social Exchange Theory
Social exchange theory holds the view that human relationships are based on
estimates of rewards and punishment. George Homans is the father of social
exchange theory was interested in what determines changes of behaviour of in human
relationships. Social exchange theory suggests that we essentially take the benefits
and minus the costs in order to determine how much a relationship is worth. Positive
relationships are those in which the benefits outweigh the costs, while negative
relationships occur when the costs are greater than the benefits. With this being said,
to a large extent can social exchangetheory be used to examine human relationships
as it explore how people feel about their relationship will depend on their perception:

This theory highlights that people are the happiest in relationship when the give and
take ratio is equal. As such, if one partner s giving is more in comparison to the
other, they feel guilty about the imbalance and is likely to compensate happiness
elsewhere.
Nevertheless, one of the strengths of this theory is that it can be used to examine
why people stay in abusive relationships. This theory did a good job in giving us a
foundation of what a relationship should look like. As such, in abusive relationships
the person being abused might be benefiting and receiving a lot from the abuser
whilst it cost them their pride, joy and dignity. With this being said, the outcome
might be greater than the comparison level. In contrast, the weaknesses of this
theory is that it view people as being selfish and assumes that people are only
looking out for themselves and not enter or stay in a relationship because they love
each other. As such, it ignores that relationship are based on fairness and not profit.
In conclusion, social exchange theory is intended to explain when or why people
maintain or stay in relationships is because of three assumptions: by assessing the
rewards and benefits, cost and the outcome (rewards cost=

Capitalism In Death Of A Salesman
The American Death: An Analysis of Death of a Salesman
After World War II, The U.S. entered into a time known as the Golden Age of
Capitalism. A major ideology that developed during this time was the American
Dream. According to Merriam Webster, the American Dream is a happy way of
living... that can be achieved by anyone... by working hard and becoming successful.
Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman critiques this ideology through the outcome
of Willy s life and in light of Karl Marx s ideas in Alienation.
One way Miller critiques the American Dream is through Marx s idea of
proprietors and propertyless. Marx states in Alienated Labor that the whole
society is divided into two classes of proprietors and propertyless (171).
Throughout the story, the audience learns Willy is part of the propertyless. This
is demonstrated when Willy and Linda have a conversation about the refrigerator.
Linda mentions how they are close to paying it off, but Willy replies that it just
broke again (73). In light of Marx, since Willy is not able to own his refrigerator,
he is part of the propertyless. On the other hand, Howard, Willy s boss, is a
proprietor. The way Howard achieves this job is through inheritance. At one point in
the story, Willy asks Howard if he can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This dream is dangerous because it causes a loss of one s identity and endless work
towards an unreachable goal. If people continue to believe this dream is possible,
then the proprietor will continue to exploit them. In the end, all the worker has to
show for their work is their death. When they die, this process will just continue with
another worker. The workers may believe that they are assets to the company, but in
reality, they replaceable. While the American Dream may seem like a fantasy, it is
ultimately an endless cycle of the exploitation that can never be
Dimensional Change Card Sorting
The Dimensional Change Card Sorting (DCCS) task measures the ability to switch
from one rule to another (cognitive flexibility). Three year old children typically
fail in this task, which is widely used in the literature. However, when the
dimensions of the things on the cards used in the task are separated, the
performance of the three year olds increases. There are two close hypotheses about
this phenomenon: re description and mental files. The purpose of this study was to
test these two hypotheses with different manipulations on the DCCS task. The three
year old children participating in the study (N = 38) were given these four task: the
original DCCS task and a version using objects identical to the original one, and two
more versions,
Budweiser Rhetorical Analysis
American s most savored beverage is beer. It s one of the top consumed drinks and
can be drank for different occasions. Budweiser, one of the most top selling beer
companies puts out their commercials to advertise their beers. While their
commercials are used to produce sales, what most don t see is the message they
associate when drinking a Budweiser. These commercials often use rhetoricto
persuade us. Rhetorical devices are used to be the most effective way to persuade
and audience into thinking. Pathos, ethos, and logos are used to make a powerful
statement to be successful in their beer sales. In the 2015 Budweiser s Lost Puppy
commercial, we immediately see a special bond between a dog, owner, and horse.
The commercial starts off with the relationship between the horse and dog, and how
they don t want to be separated. Throughout the making of Budweiser commercials,
Budweiser has created a strong connection with puppies. Budweiser has used the
puppy to create a story line to create more than one advertisement. The commercial
then gets to our emotions when the puppy goes missing after jumping into the back
of a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pathos is the main rhetorical device used throughout this commercial. Pathos is a
quality that evokes emotions. It all begins with the puppy coming out from under
the hay and the audience falling in love. Pathos is then used to tug on emotions
when the puppy gets lost in the back of the truck. We soon see the emotion of the
owner, but also the horse. Then we see the puppy all alone in the rain trying to take
shelter. Towards the end, the puppy tries to find a home, but gets himself in trouble
with the wolf. We then see the ending, we want, we see the puppy is saved and
returns home to end the commercial with the owner enjoying a Budweiser.
Throughout this commercial pathos creates a sense of happiness, pride, worry, and
then happiness all over
Examples Of Authority In The Truman Show
One of the first ways of thinking that applies to the Truman Show is Authority .
Everything in Truman s life is constructed by a corporation, led by Christof the
director, whose main intention is to make a profit from his reality show. Authority is
a prevalent theme in the film, and comes to the fore through the distribution of media
in Seahaven which attempts to control its viewers through indoctrination. The media
strives to integrate him by governing his personal thoughts and actions leading him to
a sense of what are right and wrong. For example, his middle school teacher had
restricted his dream of becoming an explorer by making him believe that everything
had already been discovered. Within the corporation, Christof is controlling him and
approaches Truman without any real physical or social engagement but only through
external forces such as the actors. In the Truman Show, the actors are like the hands
of Christof and Truman is being moulded and restrained into their ideal form.
The way in which Truman attempts breaks free of the authority that rules his life is
by using logic as a tool to take control of his decision ... Show more content on

In this heated argument, the characters, Sylvia and Christof strongly represent both
separate sides of individualistic human belief of morality. Sylvia, who was formerly
casted on the show, goes against Christof by rejecting his rationality and believes
Truman s own decisions and emotions are cast aside in order to pursue with the
production of the Truman Show for Christof s own selfishness. On the other hand,
Christof, who believes he has given Truman a chance to lead a new life apart from
the external unpleasant world. The film requires critical distancing from these media
landscape perceptions and not to be manipulated by it in order to understand the
meaning of morality in this

African American History
Wilkerson, Isabel. The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America s Great
Migration. New York, NY: Random House, 2010.
Isabel Wilkerson s, The Warmth of Other Suns starts in the winter of 1916, as the
world hears the news of the European war. Therefore, it was easy for American s to
overlook things such as The Chicago Defender reporting the several black families
in Selma, leaving the South. The Defender was a popular African American weekly
newspaper which informed African America s about stories in the coming years, also
having train schedules for the community to read. The Defender occurred as both
cheerleader and chronicler of an exodus that would led about six million African
Americans to abandon the states of the Old Confederacy between 1915 and 1970.
Wilkerson claims that in The Warmth of Other Suns her substantial and skilled
justification of the Great Migration. Involving them together, was their daring
determination to roll the dice for a better future. Therefore, to find review wealth
showing that blacks who left the South had far more education than black who
stayed. Or that the migrants had higher employment numbers than Northern born
blacks and a more unchanging family life, as shown by lower divorce rates and the
fewer children born outside of marriage. Wilkerson says, the familiar migrant
advantage has worked historically for Americans of all colors.
Wilkerson s The Warmth of Other Suns expresses the journey of
Who Keeps The Cycle Of Big Brother In Power In 1984 By...
In 1984, people are constantly being brainwashed into thinking that they cannot trust
anyone which in turn, creates a sense disparity in society. Everyone is taught from
an early age that they cannot trust anyone else other than The Party. Citizens are
constantly doing so much work in life that they do not realize what is really
happening. People are always judging each other because In the assumption that
every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement was
scrutinized (Orwell 3). Society is constantly judging each other based on
characteristics they themselves do not confide in. This keeps the cycle of Big
Brother in power because they are all caught up in what the scrutiny may be. More
importantly, darkness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She tells him that she wanted her torture to be shifted to him, and he responds that
he felt exactly the same way. These acts of mutual betrayal represent The Party s
final psychological victory. Soon after their respective experiences in Room 101,
Winston and Julia are set free as they no longer pose a threat to The Party. Here,
Julia says that despite her efforts to make herself feel better, she knows that in order
to save herself she really did want The Party to torture Winston. In the end, The Party
proves to Winston and Julia that no moral conviction or emotional loyalty is strong
enough to withstand torture. Physical pain and fear will cause people to betray their
convictions if doing so will end their suffering. This brings the novel s culmination of
the theme of physical and psychological control to an end. Physical control over the
body ultimately grants The Party psychological control over the mind. The idea of
individual mind control has also taken the ability of trust away because The
perpetual existence of Oceania is dependent upon the fabrication of language as a
way to dominate the individual mind. With absolute eternal power over the
individual, the timeless idea of identity and self breakdown and are vanquished
(Bush 246). If citizens cannot identify who they are themselves, then the ability to
trust someone else vanishes as well. People worship The Party religiously because
they feel like they are the only ones with the right answers. Religion is also absent
and instead, devotion is poured out to the state. It is a feature of total authoritarian
governmental control, religion is easily disposed of and replaced with devotion to
The Party. In the end, The Party s total control of psychological and physical
manipulation can be traced all the way back to families and society. By taking the
ability of trust towards people away it

our tour of the neighborhood. There aren t much large chain stores like K Mart or
Old Navy in Riverdale and the only ones we saw were CVS and Eckerd. There aren
t any fast food chain restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King, White Castle, etc.
The shopping area is composed of ice cream parlors, art galleries, wine stores, pet
shops, flower shops, Korean stores for your Caribbean products, jewelry stores,
pizza shops, pharmacies, gift shops, etc. We saw just 2 laundromats in the area. It
can be assumed that residents here do their own laundry at their homes. We also
saw a few dry cleaners on the main road. For recreation, Riverdale residents don t
have much of a variety of activities. Nearby Riverdale is Van Courtlandt Park.
Located here is a Riverdale Equestrian Centre where people can go horseback
riding. There are parks in the area such as Spuyten Duyvil Playground and Riverdale
Playground but in general, there are no recreational centers. Similar to recreational
centers, there wasn t a large number of clubs or associations. The only thing that
would count as a club was a fitness center for women. The dominant religion
My Family Has A Big Influence On The Language
Family ties My family has a big influence on the language I use when I am with
them, and even when I am not. If I do say so myself my family is rather very funny
and we all just have a really great since of humor. A lot of the time we are just
joking around or poking fun at one another, in a loving way of course. The
relationship I have with my siblings is very important to me that relationship has
really helped shape my everyday language. Most of the words or phrase I use in the
familysetting are from television shows, movies, or just things someone in my house
has said before that is now constantly reoccurring.
Hey Assbutt!! ( Swan Song )
My sister and I really love television, and binge watching shows together. I lot of
the time we hear things that just really stick with us, and we can not help but
incorporate them into our daily lives. Hey assbutt is from the show supernatural,
Castel a fallen angel says this to a demon right before he kills him to save Dean

the more funny. I use this when I am greeting my sister sometimes or in a situation
were I need her attention. An example sentence would be something like, Hey assbutt
get down here! When I say this in a setting that is not around my sister people
usually do not understand, and some even seem offended, so I typically keep this
term between my sister and I.

William Randolph Hearst and the Spanish American War
How far is a person willing to go to be the best? Will he sacrifice friends, family,
even the lives of his countrymen? What makes someone that devoted to competition
that they are willing to destroy everything that they ve ever known, and quite
possibly start a war in the process all to see that they ve outsold there competition?
These are the questions one must ask once you learn of the life s story of William
Randolph Hearst. From his news empire that included over 2 dozen major
newspapers in 15 cities (Swanberg) to his more then slightly warped sense of moral
propriety, Hearst s life led him into the position where he escalated an international

This trip would prove to be a pivotal inspiration for William s later endeavor

Young Hearst showed the vicious ambition that his mother had instilled in his
formative years followed him into St. Paul s Preparatory School in Concord, New
Hampshire, an exclusive school that his mother had picked for him, and finally into
Harvard College where the young Hearst found what would become the passion of
his life publishing. (Nasaw)
William was a very popular young man at Harvard. The excessive allowance sent
by his mother each month allowed him to wine and dine his friends and to keep
many young, working class women on his arm. He was a member of the Hasty
Pudding acting society and later became the business manager of the Harvard
Lampoon. His financial stewardship of the group was brilliant and in a move that
would signal the beginning of his life in publishing, he increased circulation and
business advertising well over 300% (Nasaw).
Although he was expelled from Harvard for poor grades his life did not stop.
During his time at the Lampoon, his father found himself in possession of a
Newspaper, The San Francisco Examiner, which he won at a card game. When
William learned of this he begged his father to allow him to run the paper, insisting
he could make it profitable and powerful. It would become his chance to match his

French listeners to American jazz. As soldiers, the Harlem Hellfighters left their

People crowded the streets, welcoming home these brave soldiers. But despite this
celebration, little to nothing had changed in their day to day lives. And it would
take another world war, and decades of civil rights activism before the hopes of
these African American doughboys would be realized. In fact, the inequalities
experienced by these brave men is still being remedied today. Legislation passed
Congress in December 2014 to pave the way for Sgt. Henry Johnson, who served
with the 369th, to receive the Medal of Honor for his actions during World War I.
While there was no official policy of discrimination regarding the Medal of Honor,
during World War I prejudice in the Armed Services prevented African Americans
such as Johnson from receiving the honor. But in death, the Harlem Hellfighters no

The Law of Hammurabi in Mesopotamia and Babylon
Hammurabi, King and ruler of Babylon from 1792 1750 B.c at the beginning of his
rein, Mesopotamia was divided into many city states, all with their own patterns of
shifting rules, but Hammurabi eventually brought the entire region under his
control, he collected laws from varied city states, and wrote down a set of codes,
that soon governed the entire area (King 56). Hammurabi s written code allowed lot
to be a matter of public knowledge and so help advance the rule of law in society.
Babylons great monuments make a strong impression of the biblical scribes, but
the most enduring legacy surviving to this day, is the Babylonian intervention far
more impression still, the Rule of Law (King 56). Babylon was the first
civilization on earth to have a written legal code ( King 56) . The original carb
stone is in an astonishing relic, lost for hundreds of years it will emerge in the late
19 century, a stone engraved with one of the most important legal documents of all
time (King 58). 12 hundred years before the issue relies was taking captive a
Babylonian king who had the stone carb with the laws, the barriers name Hammurabi
s code (King 61).
Hammurabi expanded his empire greatly before focusing his energies toward
wealth and justice for his people. He created a code protecting all classes of
Babylonian society, including women and slaves (Sasson 46). He sought protection
of the weak from the powerful and the poor from the rich. The carving on the stone

Police Powers And The Constitution
In reviewing all the issues raised in Modules 1 5 I actually found it a little difficult to
directly relate any of them to my present occupation. As I mentioned in my
introduction I am currently employed as a law enforcement officer. When we discuss
police powers and the Constitution directly in relation to law enforcement the mind is
naturally drawn to the amendments. I most certainly don t stop to consider the
implications of judicial qualifications and the impact of our government structure on
our day to day life or my job. With this in mind I chose the three following issues to
relate to my occupation: extradition, the privileges and immunities clause, and the
full faith and credit clauseall of which are found under Article IV. These issues have
reaching effects on my career field and how officers of the law might be required to
enforce the law.
Extradition is the provision by which a fugitive is returned to the state in which the
crime was committed. This must be enforced by request of the Governor of the state
where the crime occurred. Prior to the Supreme Court case judgment on Puerto Rico
v. Branstad this duty of the Governor was considered a moral duty not a legal
responsibility. With the intervention of the Court though this was corrected. Judges
are now able to order Governors to enforce the provision. (Vile 96)
Now extradition as a physical process is pretty important for law enforcement
officers. At some point the fugitive will need to be transported back
Characteristics Of Good People
The first book I read in English class this year was The World According to Garp, a
book known for its forward thinking and provocative material. During a conversation
in class, a question arose about Garp, Jenny, and the other main characters: are they
good people? Writers often portray main characters as flawed, yet ultimately
ethnically good humanbeings; however Garp and Co constantly walk a moral line.
My conclusion: no, they were not good people, but they weren t horrible people either.
If I were to ask people on the street if they considered themselves to be a good
person, I am almost positive most people would say yes. Nevertheless, the fact
remains that statistically people are predominantly average human beings. Still, I do
think it says something that people, in general, want to be kind hearted. They want to
help people in need, or stand up for animal rights. They speak out against
discrimination, or stick up for a friend. Sometimes, yes, people harbor selfish
incentives; nonetheless, a good deed is still a good deed.
Defining a good person is difficult because I don t want to put constraints around it.
To be morally good, to me at least, a person needs to try to be moral, by whatever
standards fit his/her own definition. He/she also needs to understand the personality
traits that set him/her back, and in doing so, he/she can make an effort to remedy
them.
With such a vague definition, it is tough to ask specific questions. A potential
question could be what
Kitchen Critical Analysis
In the novel Kitchen, by Banana Yoshimoto, Mikage s experiences with grief
develop her emotional control in conflicts within herself and others. Yoshimoto
exemplifies how Mikage s relationships dictate the capacity of her emotional control
in a given situation by comparing it to that of Okuno. Mikage inputs her authority to
get Okuno to listen to her point of view, and quickly realizes Okuno s sole
motivation of visiting her: she had only come to blame me (Yoshimoto 74). The
reactions of the two central characters differ substantially; Mikage bases her
understanding of the conflictby taking into account Okuno s perspective as Yuichi s
girlfriend and taking into consideration how her relation with them may affect their
relationship. Okuno s frustration and misinterpretation of Mikage s relationship with
Yuichi validates Mikage s empathize for her. However, Mikage cannot negate her
own feelings in the conflict because she warrants no fault for being a part of Yuichi s
life at the moment, in addition to the couple s lack of open communication. She
calmly and directly states how she feels and thinks, rather than immediately putting
up a defense. Okuno, on the other hand, gives in to her insecurities, blinding her to
the point that she actively takes the time to find Mikage in person for the sole
purpose of humiliating her in order to gain some assurance of her relationship. She
immediately acts upon rash and self serving thinking rather than critical thinking.

Poor And Developing Countries All Over The World Have...
Poor and developing countries all over the world have health problems and are in
major need of medical help. Sending aid to the countries seems like a logical
solution to the problem, and can have benefits if used properly. Medical aid is any
donation or service to help improve a situation by an organization or donor
government. Eran Bendavid, an assistant professor in the Division of General
MedicineDisciplines at Stanford University found that Foreign aid for health care is
directly linked to an increase in life expectancy and a decrease in child mortality in
developing countries. Family planning services have been known to give women
social confidence and educate them on contraception methods. When more developed
countries support the poorer areas it builds strategic alliances between governments.
Although donated medical aid appears flawless and successful, some attempts at
solutions have not been as prosperous. Most donations of medical technologies have
proved to be inefficient, and lead to clutter and electrical problems in hospitals.
Another problem is using more land for medical development and that can lead to
major environmental problems. Even though governments in these poor countries are
trying to help, they are many times in debt and have to rely on other countries for
medical aid. Medical aid can help improve countries overall health, but to what extent
are the countries actually being helped?
Organizations try to help developing countries by sending

The most notable flag signifying piracy is the skull with the two crossed swords
that is seen today in Hollywood movies. This flag was flown under the control of
Calico Jack, who terrorized the beautiful water of the Caribbean. Pirates took
advantage of the geographic structure just as modern day pirates do today. Shipping
routes are very predictable and narrow channels help to funnel vessels into an
ambush style attack limiting mobility for the fleeing ships. In history pirate sailed,
waters included greater parts of the Atlantic, Straits of Malacca and Gibraltar, Gulf
of Aden, Caribbean, Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and Somalian coast just to name a few.
The penalty for piracy was death normally by hanging. That could give a reason why
they fought so hard because at any moment, it could be their last not to mention that a
single ship could be carrying riches beyond the imagination. As Navies around the
world realized the problems of piracy, they started to build ships that were faster and
equipped with a variety of heavy weapons to hunt them down. They were considered
hostiles, and action could be taken on site without any governing order. They were

Essay On Static Members
Week Five Learning Journal The Ongoing Emphasis on Static Members Static,
static, static; but what does all this static mean? Re occuringly, our reading material
conveys the idea of static members. During the course of chapter five, I develop a
keen understanding on how to use static members, say variables and methods.
Building static variables and methods means building class members that hold the
same values through all instances. No matter how many instances of a class I
instantiate, static members will retain the same value. This is useful for global
placement of data. Building non static variables and methods means building class
members that are unique to each instance of the class you create. Create a backbone
class, which lays... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chapter five teaches me to instantiate variables of references of objects with the

Wisdom in My Own Programming at Home Moreover, many programmers, like
me, have their development cycle haulted when the SDK or 3DEngine crashes,
and all the console says is null pointer exception. From reading chapter five, I can
tell you this exception is thrown when an object referenced variable was not
instantiated. This error is simple to fix, takes initializing the troubled variable with
the new keyword and constructor of its referenced object class, and there we go.
Months of questioning and advice seeking on SDK forums can be bypassed with
chapter five, when all you really need to do is identify which variable on the call
stack is causing the null pointer reference. Identify which object reference it
should have, and initialize it with the new keyword and class constructor. Arrays
of Type Object I like writing in depth learning journals, because looking back on
learning journals point out material I find especially interesting. Arrays of type
object are handy when you ve created an object class, and need to spawn an array
of them. In video game programming, often it s useful to create a bullet object, or a
character object, or a background object. Knowing Java creates array of objects help
programmers rapidly spawn multiple types of their objects. Java is one of my
favorite programming
The World Transition From Brain Deadening Media
Introduction
Hawkins said I wanted to help the world transition from brain deadening media like
broadcast television to interactive media that would connect people and help them
grow. Electronic Arts (EA), one of the leading companies in the gaming world, was
founded by Trip Hawkins in the year 1982 and is headquartered in Redwood City,
California. The company s corporate governance is constituted by a board of nine
directors including Larry Probst (Chairman) and Andrew Wilson (CEO). Hawkins
envisioned EA as a publishing company that would be known for its quality and
professionalism, working with the best independent talent to make the gaming
industry equivalent to movies, books or music. Consumers, employees and
shareholders are the main stakeholders in the company. EA hopes to build lifetime
players by relentlessly improving quality. It is known that Hawkins wanted to
properly credit and compensate the talent that developed games, giving them the
same respect that artists in other media enjoyed. Ever since it became public at $8
per share in the year 1990, EA keeps its shareholders well informed about crucial
information such as investor kits, conference presentations, stock prices etc.
Background
At first, the company was named Amazin Software. In October of 1982, the company
was renamed to Electronic Arts since Hawkins wanted to recognize software as an art
form. EA has a number of business strategies. First, expanding rapidly through timely
acquisitions. From 2000

Canadian Honey Labelling Regulations
In today s society there are regulations in place for everything from the safety of
children s toys to road construction to food processing and packaging. Regulations
consist of requirements the government imposes on private firms and individuals to
achieve government s purposes (Litan, 2008). Regulations are in place to protect
businesses, producers, consumers, individuals, animals, and even the environment.
For example, the packaging and labelling regulations in Canada protects the
consumers and producers of the many foodproducts produced in Canada, one of
which is honey. This paper will focus on the packaging and labelling requirements of
Canadian honey through discussion of the regulations, stakeholders and the
opposition of stakeholders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the group, the deregulation of food container sizes would be
inconvenient for consumers, as Canadian consumers use the standard package sizes
to compare prices ( Push for deregulation , 2012). With the deregulation, there is also
potential for downsized packages to carry the same price tag as previous products of
a higher quantity, which would be a disadvantage to Canadian consumers as well (
Push for deregulation , 2012). Canadian Grocer also points out that because of these
regulations, Canadian producers and manufacturers have invested in equipment that
is based on the packaging sizes of containers in Canada, and that the deregulation of
these sizes would cost these producers the money they could spend on produce to
retool their processing equipment ( Push for deregulation , 2012). As previously
mentioned, these regulatory changes would not only affect the honey industry, but
other industries, like the ketchup industry as well. A decision like this could have
very large impacts on Canadian farming and processing cities and towns, such as
Leamington, Ontario, also known as the Tomato Capital of Canada. The mayor of
Leamington, John Paterson, stated that the Heinz ketchup plant that uses the
tomatoes of the 80 tomato farms of the area to make ketchup would be vulnerable to

Milton Paradise Lost Commentary
The Renaissance era represents a complete break with the Middle Ages on a
political, philosophical, scientifical and theological scale. Indeed, the discovery of
new territories and the expeditions of explorers such as Francis Drake, the resurgence
of classic writtings, the new scientific outbreaks of Copernicus, Newton and Galilei
as well as the Protestant reformation led by Luther and his 95 Theses, triggered a will
for knowledge and a quest for truth, thus putting an end to the intellectual hegemony
of the Roman Catholic Church in Western Europe. Intellectuals of this era began to
think on mankind, looking for answers outside of the Religious constraints. Written
during this context of political and religious upheaval, Paradise Lost, an... Show more

On verse 498 to 502 the snake is described as a circular base that towered folds
above folds a surprising maze [...] with burnished neck [...] erect amidst his circling
spires . Thus the snake appears as a symbol of virility, a phallic form erecting from
the ground and can be understood as another strategy of Satan to cajole Eve into
trusting him. On the other hand this links made by Milton between sensuality and
religion can be seen as a hint of the influence of the metaphysical poetry on his
writting: this link beeing one of the interest of the metaphysical poets who were
contemporary with Milton.
Then the snake can be analysed as a symbol of corruption and of perfidy. Satan
uses a disguise, a snake to talk to eve. He uses his beauty, his eloquence to seduce
her. His wave movements, looking like a dance, and his attitude ( Fawning, and
licking the ground whereon she strod on verse 526) can be interpreted as a nuptial
parade with the snake playing on the primal instinct (which are restricted by
religion) of Man to attract Eve in his trap. It is also interesting to note that the
occurence of the word Satan is, as Satan himself, disguised in this passage. Here
Satan is refered to as the snake or the enemy of mankind on verse 494. The word
Satan can only be seen if the reader looks closely at the poem: an acrostic is hidden
from verse 510 to 515. This clever technic reflects the vicious strategy of the Devil in
the passage.

The Performance Of The Everyman Theatre
I had not developed any real research methodologies to find a placement. It was
some voluntary work that culminated into a placement as I had a very few if not
none contacts with professionals in creative media industries in England. This was an
opportunity for me to figure out my choice of major, Identify my interests and figure
out the links between my academic majors and future careers, and to test out these
interests and connections through the placement. This placement helped me build up
early professional experience, and apply what I learnt in real world environment, and

The Everyman is a theatre based in Gloucestershire and has been serving the
community and beyond since its inception in 1891. A range of activities takes place
at the theatre for example ballet dancing, opera, drama, dance, comedy, music events

Childhood Is More Precious Than Childhood Essay
In modern day society nothing is more precious than childhood. It is a time full of
innocence, love, light and freedom with little to no worries. Childhood has not
always been described as this, full of hope and dreams and aspirations, the time to
just have fun and not to worry about the future, or wealth. Before the 1800s,
childhoodwas not a thing and children were just seen as miniature adults, with no
value, other than to carry on families. It was not until after the 1800s were
childhood become a national phenomenon. Childhood is set to be this time were
its all play and no work, where your parents or guardian is supposed to take care of
you, but what about the children that do not have this luxury? Although childhood
is a modern day universal subject recognized, not all children get to live their lives
the way they are meant to . The problem is dormant within certain societies for
many reasons. One is the concept of developed and developing countries and their
debt crisis, and another is western and non Western ideals. With these battling each
other, it is hard to communicate which one is right versus which one is wrong.
When it comes to children and work, is it wrong? Is it ok? Should it be outlawed?
Through universal and critical approaches, it will be shown that although childlabour
is against the UNCRC, it is crucial for children in some parts of the world to have
this active role. Through critical debates child labour would be further developed and
questioned
The Importance Of Christian Beliefs
Everyone is entitled to having their own beliefs. In healthcare, we can have our own
beliefs but, we must respect others beliefs and respond accordingly. There are many
religions but, I chose to focus on Christianity. A Christian is someone who believes in
the teachings of Jesus Christ. In the Christian faith, there are many denominations,
groups with different views, on what the teachings of Jesus Christ mean. I chose to
focus on the two specific groups who have strong opinions on how they are treated. I
am a strong believer in patient education and the patients right to refuse treatment.
Christian Science In the denomination of Christian science, they strongly believe in
the power of prayer. This is a common belief for Christians, but they take it a step
further. For these believers, the best way, sometimes the only way, to be healed is
by prayer. You can use aides like crutches or canes because they aren t changing
you. If you are in this culture and you feel that you must go to a doctor, you would
have to go to the Christian science doctor. Most of the time, they will only do this
for urgent situations or children that aren t healing fast enough. I am a firm believer
in the power of prayer but, I also believe that medicine is sometimes necessary. As a
healthcare provider, I don t imagine that I will ever treat anyone who believes this
way because I wouldn t be able to practice with their doctor. I am sure if they did
decide to get medical treatment at a
Tornado Recovery Summary
This summary will cover the lessons learned and any suggestions necessary

Missouri Kansas state line from a massive supercell thunderstorm that quickly
escalated into an EF 5 monster. This monster tornado tore a half mile to three
quarter mile wide path of total destruction through Joplin, Missouri claiming 161
lives (Smith Sutter, 2013). The response by the local and state government was
immediate bringing in a combination of public and private sector efforts. Joplin is
one of the few disasters that displayed how recovery efforts should be executed.
Public sectors after the disaster focused mainly on clearing debris and bringing the

One key factor that helped in the timely recovery of Joplin was the massive volunteer
sector efforts. There were more than 92,000 registered volunteers that came from the
United States and as far away as Japan to help restore the community (Smith Sutter,
2013). To house all of these volunteers FEMA provided temporary housing units for
the volunteers and displaced victims. Immediately after the tornado, the American
Red Cross set up shelters for the displaced victims and within two weeks of the
disaster they also had a long term recovery committee functioning. Along with the
tremendous response from public, private, and volunteer sectors the social media
network contributed a huge role in coordinating relief. Most notably the local
churches of St. Paul and College Heights utilized Facebook to contact churches
outside of Joplin bringing in faith based organizations from all over the United States
(Smith Sutter, 2013). The most fascinating aspect of Joplin s recovery was the
autonomous nature that the private and public sectors were able to perform under.

Reflection On R V Mann
INTRODUCTION: In this reflection paper, I will be discussing the R v Mann case.
In this case, the specific issue from that judgement I wish to address is whether race
is necessary to acknowledge in the dimensions regarding the police detention
practices. This reflection paper will first acknowledge how the Supreme Court of
Canada could have factored in raceinto its analysis in R v Mann. Next, the paper
will examine the case through the lens of the Critical Race Theory (CRT) and
cultural competence to help better understand the issue of race. I will then conclude
my paper with a brief discussion of the next steps to address where to go from here
regarding the issue of race.
REFLECTION:
This topic is of great interest to me because I was fortunate enough to grow up in a
community, surrounded by five First Nations reserves. I chose this case because in
my community, an RCMP officer pled guilty to assault causing bodily harm to an
Indigenous man and abandoning him 10 kilometres outside of town. Similar to the R
v Mann case, race was also neglected from the case in my community.
R v Mann established that a police officer must have reasonable grounds when
stopping and detaining a particular individual for investigation. However, I disagree
with the court failing to adequately address the racial dimensions as I believe the
Supreme Court of Canada could have used systematic racism to explain why the
officer reacted in such a manner into its analysis in this case. Race was prevalent to
the arrest of Mann because Mann was stopped based on the fact that he had matched
the race of the known suspect. Significantly, race was a dominant part of the
description, mostly since the clothing he was wearing was inconsistent with that part
of the suspect s description. Though, the problem is that given our history of overt
and systemic racism, race often unconsciously becomes the dominant part of the
description used by police. Whether or not the police officers are heavily relying on
their intuition, does not negate that those intuitions can be influenced or distorted by
unconscious racism.
Moreover, I believe it is significant to reflect on the R v Mann case by considering
how the R v Golden case plays into it as there

All these systems were designed independently, targeting different service types, data
rates, and users. As these systems all have their own merits and shortcomings, there
is no single system that is good to replace all the other technologies. Instead of
putting into developing new radio interface and technologies for 4G systems, it is
believed in establishing 4G systems is a more feasible option.
3. ARCHITECTURAL CHANGES IN 4G TECHNOLOGY
In 4G architecture, focus is on the aspect that multiple networks are able to function
in such a way that interfaces are transparent to users and services. Multiplicities of
access and service options are going to be other key parts of the paradigm shift. In
the present scenario and with the growing popularity of Internet, a shift is needed to
switch over from circuit switched mode to packet switched mode of transmission.
However 3G networks and few others, packet switching is employed for delay
insensitive data transmission services. Assigning packets to virtual channels and then
multiple physical channels would be possible when access options are expanded
permitting better statistical multiplexing. One would be looking for universal access
and ultra connectivity, which could be enabled by: a) Wirelessnetworks and with
wire line networks. b) Emergence of a true IP over the air technology. c) Highly
efficient use of wireless spectrum and
Latin American Change Essay
Over the course of the past half millennium, the 33 countries that now comprise Latin
America and the Caribbean have gone through drastic change. Since the discovery of
the New World in 1492, each country has gone through some level of colonization by
a European power and transition to its current state. During this period the regions
have seen political, social, religious and economic transformations of various degrees.
Nevertheless, many scholars argue that regardless of the changes encountered, many
are merely on the surface with little to no meaningful change instilled. A Variety of
leaders have attempted to improve their country by both conservative and liberal
means. Despite these attempts, though, the underlying foundation of ... Show more

Regardless of the change in government, sweeping social change has not occurred
and almost all of these two groups remain poor.
The plantation was the center of the agriculture life. Large scale agriculture is still
important as many countries rely on these products as they put large strain on export
oriented growth. Only recently has there been any significant attempts at
industrialization and many countries are economically backward.
From the very outset of the exploration of the New World, members of the church
have been side by side with the explorers and colonists. The church had a dual role in
Latin America. The church was interested in saving the souls of the indigenous
peoples found in the newly discovered regions and also they reinforced the control
of the Iberian powers. A unique form of Catholicism emerged that was a mixture of
the three cultures mentioned above. The most vivid example of this fusion can be
seen in Brazil were dozens of religions have sprouted with African, indigenous and
European roots.
The final topic of colonial legacies is politics. From an early point in the history of
Latin America, the regions have enjoyed a certain level of autonomy. There was a
tendency towards administrative centralism and regional/local decision making
which was primarily due to the physical distances to Europe. This incomplete control
led to the growth of regionalism, strongman

Analysis Of The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy
I have talked before about coming from a simple life. That could be a slight
understatement as I have never previously attended a ballet, and when the
question, Surely, you ve all heard of Tchaikovsky, right? was posed I struggled to
recognize the name or any significance to my life. It was not until I heard the
musical number of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy that the gears of my mind
finally associated it with memory. While the first few notes of the celesta filled
the room with carefree delight, I was transported back to the cold, laminated floor
of my farmhouse bedroom. Sitting on the gaily colored rug in the middle of my
six feet by seven feet small expanse of space, I remember holding my china
ballerina/music box so gently. The object itself is about twenty inches tall. It is a
beautiful ballerina in a lavender tutu with matching slippers and a delicate crown
of flowers in her hair. The ballerina is perched upon a white cylinder, almost
reminiscent of a cake topper, that is embellished with glitter and flowers and all of
the pretty works. When the key is turned, the melody flows angelically through my
small room, and I feel as if I am not longer present instead, I am swept away to a
wonderous, snowy world with enchanting dancers. My only connection to
Tchaikovsky let alone The Nutcrackeris a ballerina figurine that I left back home. I
did not have a clue what to expect, but I could barely contain my excitement. Prior to
the concert, we had covered Tchaikovsky in
The Importance Of Locus Of Control In College Students
Locus of Control determines how well someone does on life and successful in life.
How someone achieves their goals and how their grades are, how much someone

Design issues As like any other building the design of the Empire State building is
prone to bad design. A bad design could pose a major risk as any miscalculation or
oversight would mean that its structure may not be able to handle the stress and
enormous loads. Design may show low probability but will have very high impact
if the building comes crashing down. The Empire State Building was the first
commercial construction project to employ the technique of fast track construction,
a commonplace approach today but very new in the early 20th Century. This
technique consists of starting the construction process before the designs are fully
completed in order to reduce delays and inflation costs. In this case, it was
imperative to use the fast track construction method to win the race for the tallest
building (2). Force majeure By definition, force majeure is a superior force , also
known as cas fortuit (French) or casus fortuitus (Latin) chance occurrence,
unavoidable accident (11). Force majeure may be repeated heavy hail, or an
earthquake, or a hurricane. The building is intended to stand for some years should
be able to meet these challenges. A flexible structure may avoid destruction in an
earthquake, while a more solid building with good masonry would be destroyed.
Earthquakes can also result in foundation problems when moist filled land liquefies
(13). The Empire State
Training Strategy Proposal Essay
Training Strategy Proposal
Training and development imply changes, particularly changes in knowledge, skills,
attitudes, or social behaviors, and although many strategies exist for effecting change,
training and development are common and important ones. Organizations exist
everywhere and with each organization it has its own set of objectives to function
effectively. To have an organization function effectively, the organization must
subdivide its overall objectives into various jobs. Jobs differ in their requirements,
similarly, people differ in aptitudes, abilities, and interests, and along many other
dimensions. Faced with such variability in jobs and their requirements on the one
hand, and with people and his or her individual ... Show more content on

This involves breaking down barriers, sharing information, using a collaborative
approach to problem solving, and orienting employees toward continuous learning
and improvement. Leaders who are to transform employees to bring out his or her
creativity, imagination, and best efforts require well developed interpersonal skills,
founded on an understanding of human behavior in organizations. Therefore, because
training and development activities are planned programs of organizational
improvement, and it is important that the programs are planned as thoroughly as
possible, since the ultimate objective is to link training content to a desired job
behavior (Cascio Aguinis, 2011).
A five step process should be considered as Kudler strategizes on a training and
development program. The first consideration would be to conduct a comprehensive
analysis of the training and development system, including the system s interaction
with other organizational systems. Kudler s second step to consider would be to
determine training needs and specify training objectives clearly and explicitly. The
third consideration for Kudler would be to create an optimal environment for
training, decomposing the learning task into its structural components. The last two
considerations for Kudler would be to determine an optimum sequencing of the
components, and to find other options for learning. Paying close
Childbirth Vs Midwife
Midwifes give the expecting mother a choice. Evidence shows that women who are
choosing to seek care from a midwife do it not only for the reasons of wanting to
approach childbirth in a natural way, but also because midwives let you take control
of the situation with limitations obviously. Having choice and control over your
pregnancyis empowering and will usually give you a wonderful birthing experience.
When a mother has a good birthing experience it will allow the mother and child to
have a better relationship and will allow her to look forward to her next pregnancy.
In comparisons to a doctor, a midwife allows the expecting mother to have informed
choice, flexibility and choice. When a woman gets pregnant they create a birthing

Abstract
In this experiment we wanted to determine the optimal temperatures for fungal,
Aspergillus oryzae, and bacterial, Bacillus licheniformis. In order to see if any of the
starch was broken down, Iodine was mixed with the starch amylase substance. In four
spot plates, the groups labeled the different temperatures, once the iodine came in
contact with the starch, the result would be a reaction that turns the fluid into this
dark blue/black color. In a span of 10 minutes, with occasional check ups on the
solution every 2 minutes, the amylase starch solution was placed into five types of
temperature, all being Celsius. The five temperatures were 0 degrees, 25 degrees, 55
degrees, and 85 degrees Celsius. The solution would change colors, so in order to
measure the changes, a scale was used. Such scale was a 1 5 scale, with colors next
to each number. One being the lightest color, or yellow, and 5 being the darkest
color, or black. Based on the change of color, we could tell how fast it hydrolyzed
the starch in a span of 10 minutes. To keep record of the results, the results were put
in Data Tables used from the Lab Manual. The average optimal temperature for
Bacteria Amylase was 85 degrees Celsius, while the Fungal was 55 degrees Celsius.

Internet Usage Addiction
Internet Usage
The internet refers basically to the worldwide interconnection of computer networks
that use a standard protocol called internet protocol suite. The internet serves several
billion people worldwide and has become the most preferred mode of communication
between people from different parts of the world. This has led to it rampant usage and
as much as it has noticeable benefits, its limitations cannot be overlooked either.
Internet addiction in teenagers or to say adolescents has been estimated to be 12% in
China, 19.4% in Korea and 8% in Greece approximately (Lin).
To start with, usage of the internet leads to addiction. While the time spend in the
internet might be highly productive, compelling use of the internet can ultimately
interfere with your work, the daily life, and a larger extent interfere with
relationships. It leads to a disorder commonly known as Internet Addiction Disorder
(IAD). It is commonly referred to internet overuse, which leads to, interference of
daily normal life. This disorder has undergone several researches and valid data have
been received supporting it. IAD covers a wide variety of impulse control problems
including the following (Walton);
Cybersex addiction: This refers to uncontrollable use of the internet pornography,
Adult sex chat rooms, or the fantasy role play sites that will, therefore, affect real life
intimate relationships.
Information over load: Irresistible internet usage for instance database searching, or

Personal Narrative Campinging With Allison Rader
During the long weekend in September I went camping with Allison Rader in my
backyard, but it turned out to be a catastrophe. Around 9pm, we decided to put up
a tent on my back deck and camp outside. Allison and I gave it our all to put the
tent up for about 40 minutes, but we were baffled at the complex instructions.
Finally, we gave up. So,we got my dad to help us put the tent up because of our
struggle. Within 20 minutes, my dad had put the tent up. We had started putting
blankets and pillows in the tent to keep us comfortable on the cold, hard deck
floor. Once we set up our cozy camping site, we listened to music and talked for
hours. We were a little reluctant to go to sleep outside, but gazing at the stars for
such a long period of
A World Focused On Climate Change And Sustainable
Development
In a world focused on climate change and sustainable development, many people have
become more interested in the environmentally related behavior of corporations and
have increased their desire for green products. In response to this growing demand,
numerous corporations have shifted to becoming more sustainable and are making
green marketing claims. While some of these companies are actually carrying out
robust sustainability practices, many companies practices do not match up to the
image they convey to the public and are guilty of greenwashing. In fact, a study
conducted by TerraChoice (2010) found that in 2010, over 95 percent of greener
products were found to be greenwashed (6). The term greenwashing stems from
whitewashing, and is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as disinformation
disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible
public image. Advertising plays a major role in shaping consumer behavior, and
companies guilty of greenwashing are educating consumers with false or distorted
information. This is important because the general population s desire to purchase
products that are environmentally friendly is being hampered by the current cloud of
greenwashing allegations, making it increasingly difficult for consumers to
distinguish fact from fiction. Although the upward trend in green consumerism has
affected several industries, it has had a noteworthy impact on the automotive industry,
which has experienced a recent
Child Vehicular Heat Stroke Deaths
According to the article Child Vehicular Stroke Fact Sheet from KidsAndCars.org,
The average number of U.S. child vehicular heat stroke deaths is 37 per year. That is
one death of a child every nine days. Although, some individuals may or may not
have unintentionally left their children in the car. A majority of parents that left their
child in the vehicleunknowingly did it. However, there is a small percentage of
parents that knowingly left their child unattended in the vehicle. In some cases,
the child even entered the vehicle on their own without the parent or caregiver
noticing in time. Statistics of child vehicular heat stroke deaths reveal that 54.25%
of parents unknowingly left their child in the vehicle, 11.58% knowingly left their
child in the vehicle, and 33.58% of the children entered the vehicle by themselves
without parents or caregivers noticing in a reasonable amount of time (Child
Vehicular Heat Stroke). Some individuals, usually non parents, believe that it is
completely absurd to forget a child is in the vehicle. However, the most dangerous
mistake a parent or caregiver can make is to think leaving a child alone in a
vehicle could never happen to them or their family (Child Vehicular Heat Stroke).
A heat stroke can be extremely lethal to young children if it is not recognized and
treated in time. What is a Heat Stroke? A heat stroke is when an individual s body
temperature ascends too high and tries to perform the task of cooling off. The body s

Alcoholism And Alcoholism
Cocaine, meth, marijuana, nicotine etc. The list of dangerous and harmful drugs
goes on and on. However, one of the deadliest drugs not mentioned above is alcohol.
From the time when alcohol was legalized in America on March 22nd, 1933, to the
present day, society has become accustomed to the idea of binge drinking(an
excessive amount of alcohol in a short amount of time). Alcoholismis now becoming
more and more of a social norm. According to a National Survey on Drug Use and
Health, 56% of people ages 18 and up reported to have drank in the last month.
Alcohol use is promoted in almost all aspects of our lives, whether on billboards in
the city, at local gas stations, or especially on the television. Many television shows
are based around the idea of drinking, having main characters take part in the
socially accepted norm. One of the TV shows that effectively addresses the notion to
people associated with alcoholics and the effects on others around them is The Office
more specifically in the episode Moroccan Christmas .
In this episode, the time setting is near Christmas. The theme around the office is
blatantly, Moroccan. In the conference room, there was a bar in the corner where
anybody could make their own drinks. Meredith, who is known throughout the
show to be a heavy drinker, habitually begins to drink glass after glass having no
one to tell her to drink responsibly. After jumping to and from scenes the camera
then focuses on Meredith, who is now dancing with fire atop her head, no one is in
the room at the time. Dwight must use his fire extinguisher to put the hazard out.
Michael, who is the boss of the entire office conducts what he calls an intervention.
In summary of the rest of the episode, Michael is the only one in the office that is
trying to help Meredith get over her alcoholic conditions by taking her into a
rehabilitation center, while others in the office are more infatuated on having a real
Christmas.
Alcohol is one of the most used drug around the world and especially in the U.S.
By drinking, it alters the state of mind and slows the body s functions. Individuals
must be careful because it can affect work habit. In the USA, almost 80% of binge
and heavy drinkers, and 60% of people

Comparing Predators And A Blessing
Predators and A blessing
Do all animals get along? That s the question, but two stories are opposites and share
some things in common, they are animals. Some attack each other, some share a
beautiful connection.
In A Blessing There is 2 horses in love as they show a beautiful connection as they
love each other. This is a beautiful story/poem by the author, the tone was one of
many factors why there is a beautiful connection in this story, He sounds that he has
seen the beautiful thing in this life.
In Predators The tone sounds eerie, as it is a dog and cat that might be attack as the
cat might of lost his/her habitat , this shows that not all animals are going to get
along. Also, the tone affects the reason why animals can
Analysis of Mystic Monk Coffee Case Essay
Analysis of Mystic Monk Coffee
1. Executive Summary
As the Prior of the Carmelite Order of monks in Clark, Father Daniel Mary has
established a future direction for the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming. He has a clear
vision that he wants to expand the monastery by buying a 500 acre ranch, which can
enable to build a Gothic church, a convent for Carmelite nuns, a retreat center for lay
visitors, and a hermitage including 30 monks. Father Daniel Mary cannot make the
vision come true unless he can collect enough money to pay for the $8.9 million
listing price of that ranch. In this circumstance, the vision for Mystic Monk Coffee
(MMC) is to sell more coffee to fund the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming. Therefore,
the mission of the Carmelite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One part is to purchase $35,000 for a larger roaster. Let s assume that monks
worked eight hours a day, and then this new roaster can help them to raise
production by 500 pounds per day (130*8 540=500). The other part is to put
wholesale sales churches and local coffee shops. MMC s strategy is a money maker
because it has a competitive advantage. It focuses on the niche market the U.S.
Catholic population who drinks coffee and wishes to support the monastery s
mission. In the U.S., this population is over 69 million. Consequently, this business
has a good potential to provide profit.
However, MMC needs to improve its advertising strategy to increase brand
awareness. Currently, it only uses its website to place its orders and customers can
only notice this brand from word of mouth or some affiliate websites. MMC
should use social media like Facebook or Twitter to advertize its products. It can
also cooperate with other Carmelite churches or groceries to distribute its coffee
packages. This is because over 133.5 million (150 million*89%=133.5 million)
coffee drinkers in the United States brew their own coffee at home. And among
them, about 30 million coffee drinkers prefer premium quality specialty coffees.
MMC provides quality coffee that will attract these loyal coffee consumers, who are
more willing to pay more to buy coffee made by high quality fair trade and organic
Arabica beans.

How Does Matsuo Basho s Journey Affect Literature
Matsuo Basho s journey has a significant impact on literature due to his well
written journals that reveal his lifestyle and experiences. In his first journal, The
Records of a Weather exposed Skeleton, Basho conveys his spiritual thoughts and
religious life that he experiences on a new journey. Basho s journal contains
several poems as he further reveals different people, traditions, and significant
places that made his journey more memorable. In Matsuo Basho s first journal he
reveals the several reasons on why he is travelling. Basho departs from his home
into the North in order to experience the culture aspects and nature of Japan.
Throughout, the first journal, we see Basho s search for enlightenment in his
pilgrimage. We see the different locations that Basho has gone to in order to learn
more and to be part of the traditions. As stated by Basho, ...I left my broken house
on the River Sumida in the August of the first year of Jyokyo among the wails of
the autumn wind (Basho 51). This quote explains that Basho leaves his home on a
long pilgrimage in order to discover more about religionand develop a better
understanding about Japanese culture as he is motivated to gain enlightenment. As he
travels we readers realize how Basho becomes aware at... Show more content on

As a poet Basho s phenomenal word choice and description allowed us readers to
view his journey as if we are there with him. It is amazing to see that Basho is such
a religious person who has visited various shrines, temples, and met many new and
old friends and created new haiku s. In addition, this reading was interesting to me
because it shows Basho s motivation to become more enlightened and his choice to
live according to Buddha s life as expressed through his poems. Reading this journal
was one of the best pieces of literature that I have read because of what I got to learn

Pros And Cons Of Filibuster
Today, Supreme Court Nominee s, Neil Gorsuch, Confirmation hearing came near
conclusion on a very confrontational note with the Senate s Principal Democrat
threatening to filibuster. This would complicate the way the senate conducts its
business . The Republicans eager to confirm Gorsuch only have a 52 majority
instead of the 60 majority that is necessary. However, they say he will be confirmed
anyway, even if it means removing the filibuster option and allowing nominees to be
confirmed with a simple majority vote. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer
s decision to filibuster was not unexpected but it will increase tension in the senate. If
this nominee cannot earn 60 votes a bar met by each of President Obama s nominees,
and George Bush s last two nominees the answer isn t to change the rules. It s to
change the nominee, he said. Although the democrats do not have the votes to block
this motion, his filibuster will publicize the resistance in the Congress. Last February,
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died unexpectedly leaving his seat open.
Before President Trump was sworn into office, former president,... Show more

He broke a lot of the rules involved in a filibuster. However, the intention is still
there. One thing that I was confused about is how this filibuster could prevent Judge
Gorsuch from being confirmed. In fact, I was confused how any filibuster gets
anything done. I thought the entire point of a filibuster was to tire out your
opponents until the bend to your will. I now understand that filibustering increases
the number of votes need to pace a law. I also know that the Republicans are
considering exercising the Nuclear Option which would bypass the filibuster letting
Gorsuch be elected with less than 60 votes. So really Gorsuch is going to be
confirmed no matter what and hopefully the consequences won t be

  • 2. George Homans And Social Exchange Theory Social exchange theory holds the view that human relationships are based on estimates of rewards and punishment. George Homans is the father of social exchange theory was interested in what determines changes of behaviour of in human relationships. Social exchange theory suggests that we essentially take the benefits and minus the costs in order to determine how much a relationship is worth. Positive relationships are those in which the benefits outweigh the costs, while negative relationships occur when the costs are greater than the benefits. With this being said, to a large extent can social exchangetheory be used to examine human relationships as it explore how people feel about their relationship will depend on their perception: of their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory highlights that people are the happiest in relationship when the give and take ratio is equal. As such, if one partner s giving is more in comparison to the other, they feel guilty about the imbalance and is likely to compensate happiness elsewhere. Nevertheless, one of the strengths of this theory is that it can be used to examine why people stay in abusive relationships. This theory did a good job in giving us a foundation of what a relationship should look like. As such, in abusive relationships the person being abused might be benefiting and receiving a lot from the abuser whilst it cost them their pride, joy and dignity. With this being said, the outcome might be greater than the comparison level. In contrast, the weaknesses of this theory is that it view people as being selfish and assumes that people are only looking out for themselves and not enter or stay in a relationship because they love each other. As such, it ignores that relationship are based on fairness and not profit. In conclusion, social exchange theory is intended to explain when or why people maintain or stay in relationships is because of three assumptions: by assessing the rewards and benefits, cost and the outcome (rewards cost=

  • 4. Capitalism In Death Of A Salesman The American Death: An Analysis of Death of a Salesman After World War II, The U.S. entered into a time known as the Golden Age of Capitalism. A major ideology that developed during this time was the American Dream. According to Merriam Webster, the American Dream is a happy way of living... that can be achieved by anyone... by working hard and becoming successful. Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman critiques this ideology through the outcome of Willy s life and in light of Karl Marx s ideas in Alienation. One way Miller critiques the American Dream is through Marx s idea of proprietors and propertyless. Marx states in Alienated Labor that the whole society is divided into two classes of proprietors and propertyless (171). Throughout the story, the audience learns Willy is part of the propertyless. This is demonstrated when Willy and Linda have a conversation about the refrigerator. Linda mentions how they are close to paying it off, but Willy replies that it just broke again (73). In light of Marx, since Willy is not able to own his refrigerator, he is part of the propertyless. On the other hand, Howard, Willy s boss, is a proprietor. The way Howard achieves this job is through inheritance. At one point in the story, Willy asks Howard if he can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If people continue to believe this dream is possible, then the proprietor will continue to exploit them. In the end, all the worker has to show for their work is their death. When they die, this process will just continue with another worker. The workers may believe that they are assets to the company, but in reality, they replaceable. While the American Dream may seem like a fantasy, it is ultimately an endless cycle of the exploitation that can never be

Three year old children typically fail in this task, which is widely used in the literature. However, when the dimensions of the things on the cards used in the task are separated, the performance of the three year olds increases. There are two close hypotheses about this phenomenon: re description and mental files. The purpose of this study was to test these two hypotheses with different manipulations on the DCCS task. The three year old children participating in the study (N = 38) were given these four task: the original DCCS task and a version using objects identical to the original one, and two more versions,

  • 7. Examples Of Authority In The Truman Show One of the first ways of thinking that applies to the Truman Show is Authority . Everything in Truman s life is constructed by a corporation, led by Christof the director, whose main intention is to make a profit from his reality show. Authority is a prevalent theme in the film, and comes to the fore through the distribution of media in Seahaven which attempts to control its viewers through indoctrination. Everyone is taught from an early age that they cannot trust anyone else other than The Party. Citizens are constantly doing so much work in life that they do not realize what is really happening. People are always judging each other because In the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement was scrutinized (Orwell 3). Society is constantly judging each other based on characteristics they themselves do not confide in. This keeps the cycle of Big Brother in power because they are all caught up in what the scrutiny may be. More importantly, darkness... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She tells him that she wanted her torture to be shifted to him, and he responds that he felt exactly the same way. These acts of mutual betrayal represent The Party s final psychological victory. Soon after their respective experiences in Room 101, Winston and Julia are set free as they no longer pose a threat to The Party. Here, Julia says that despite her efforts to make herself feel better, she knows that in order to save herself she really did want The Party to torture Winston. In the end, The Party proves to Winston and Julia that no moral conviction or emotional loyalty is strong enough to withstand torture. Physical pain and fear will cause people to betray their convictions if doing so will end their suffering. This brings the novel s culmination of the theme of physical and psychological control to an end. Physical control over the body ultimately grants The Party psychological control over the mind. The idea of individual mind control has also taken the ability of trust away because The perpetual existence of Oceania is dependent upon the fabrication of language as a way to dominate the individual mind. With absolute eternal power over the individual, the timeless idea of identity and self breakdown and are vanquished (Bush 246). If citizens cannot identify who they are themselves, then the ability to trust someone else vanishes as well. People worship The Party religiously because they feel like they are the only ones with the right answers. Religion is also absent and instead, devotion is poured out to the state. It is a feature of total authoritarian governmental control, religion is easily disposed of and replaced with devotion to The Party. In the end, The Party s total control of psychological and physical manipulation can be traced all the way back to families and society. By taking the ability of trust towards people away it

As I mentioned in my introduction I am currently employed as a law enforcement officer. When we discuss police powers and the Constitution directly in relation to law enforcement the mind is naturally drawn to the amendments. I most certainly don t stop to consider the implications of judicial qualifications and the impact of our government structure on our day to day life or my job. With this in mind I chose the three following issues to relate to my occupation: extradition, the privileges and immunities clause, and the full faith and credit clauseall of which are found under Article IV. These issues have reaching effects on my career field and how officers of the law might be required to enforce the law. Extradition is the provision by which a fugitive is returned to the state in which the crime was committed. This must be enforced by request of the Governor of the state where the crime occurred. Prior to the Supreme Court case judgment on Puerto Rico v. Branstad this duty of the Governor was considered a moral duty not a legal responsibility. With the intervention of the Court though this was corrected. Judges are now able to order Governors to enforce the provision. (Vile 96) Now extradition as a physical process is pretty important for law enforcement officers. At some point the fugitive will need to be transported back
  • 18. Characteristics Of Good People The first book I read in English class this year was The World According to Garp, a book known for its forward thinking and provocative material. During a conversation in class, a question arose about Garp, Jenny, and the other main characters: are they good people? Writers often portray main characters as flawed, yet ultimately ethnically good humanbeings; however Garp and Co constantly walk a moral line. My conclusion: no, they were not good people, but they weren t horrible people either. If I were to ask people on the street if they considered themselves to be a good person, I am almost positive most people would say yes. Nevertheless, the fact remains that statistically people are predominantly average human beings. Still, I do think it says something that people, in general, want to be kind hearted. They want to help people in need, or stand up for animal rights. They speak out against discrimination, or stick up for a friend. Sometimes, yes, people harbor selfish incentives; nonetheless, a good deed is still a good deed. Defining a good person is difficult because I don t want to put constraints around it. To be morally good, to me at least, a person needs to try to be moral, by whatever standards fit his/her own definition. He/she also needs to understand the personality traits that set him/her back, and in doing so, he/she can make an effort to remedy them. With such a vague definition, it is tough to ask specific questions. A potential question could be what

Yoshimoto exemplifies how Mikage s relationships dictate the capacity of her emotional control in a given situation by comparing it to that of Okuno. Mikage inputs her authority to get Okuno to listen to her point of view, and quickly realizes Okuno s sole motivation of visiting her: she had only come to blame me (Yoshimoto 74). The reactions of the two central characters differ substantially; Mikage bases her understanding of the conflictby taking into account Okuno s perspective as Yuichi s girlfriend and taking into consideration how her relation with them may affect their relationship. Okuno s frustration and misinterpretation of Mikage s relationship with Yuichi validates Mikage s empathize for her. However, Mikage cannot negate her own feelings in the conflict because she warrants no fault for being a part of Yuichi s life at the moment, in addition to the couple s lack of open communication. Okuno, on the other hand, gives in to her insecurities, blinding her to the point that she actively takes the time to find Mikage in person for the sole purpose of humiliating her in order to gain some assurance of her relationship. She immediately acts upon rash and self serving thinking rather than critical thinking. Mikage

Sending aid to the countries seems like a logical solution to the problem, and can have benefits if used properly. Medical aid is any donation or service to help improve a situation by an organization or donor government. Eran Bendavid, an assistant professor in the Division of General MedicineDisciplines at Stanford University found that Foreign aid for health care is directly linked to an increase in life expectancy and a decrease in child mortality in developing countries. Family planning services have been known to give women social confidence and educate them on contraception methods. When more developed countries support the poorer areas it builds strategic alliances between governments. Although donated medical aid appears flawless and successful, some attempts at solutions have not been as prosperous. Most donations of medical technologies have proved to be inefficient, and lead to clutter and electrical problems in hospitals. Another problem is using more land for medical development and that can lead to major environmental problems. Even though governments in these poor countries are trying to help, they are many times in debt and have to rely on other countries for medical aid. Medical aid can help improve countries overall health, but to what extent are the countries actually being helped? Organizations try to help developing countries by sending

Re occuringly, our reading material conveys the idea of static members. During the course of chapter five, I develop a keen understanding on how to use static members, say variables and methods. Building static variables and methods means building class members that hold the same values through all instances. No matter how many instances of a class I instantiate, static members will retain the same value. This is useful for global placement of data. How I Can Use Null Pointer Wisdom in My Own Programming at Home Moreover, many programmers, like me, have their development cycle haulted when the SDK or 3DEngine crashes, and all the console says is null pointer exception. From reading chapter five, I can tell you this exception is thrown when an object referenced variable was not instantiated. This error is simple to fix, takes initializing the troubled variable with the new keyword and constructor of its referenced object class, and there we go. Months of questioning and advice seeking on SDK forums can be bypassed with chapter five, when all you really need to do is identify which variable on the call stack is causing the null pointer reference. Identify which object reference it should have, and initialize it with the new keyword and class constructor. Arrays of Type Object I like writing in depth learning journals, because looking back on learning journals point out material I find especially interesting. Arrays of type object are handy when you ve created an object class, and need to spawn an array of them. In video game programming, often it s useful to create a bullet object, or a character object, or a background object. Knowing Java creates array of objects help programmers rapidly spawn multiple types of their objects. Java is one of my favorite programming

The company s corporate governance is constituted by a board of nine directors including Larry Probst (Chairman) and Andrew Wilson (CEO). Hawkins envisioned EA as a publishing company that would be known for its quality and professionalism, working with the best independent talent to make the gaming industry equivalent to movies, books or music. Consumers, employees and shareholders are the main stakeholders in the company. EA hopes to build lifetime players by relentlessly improving quality. It is known that Hawkins wanted to properly credit and compensate the talent that developed games, giving them the same respect that artists in other media enjoyed. Thus the snake appears as a symbol of virility, a phallic form erecting from the ground and can be understood as another strategy of Satan to cajole Eve into trusting him. On the other hand this links made by Milton between sensuality and religion can be seen as a hint of the influence of the metaphysical poetry on his writting: this link beeing one of the interest of the metaphysical poets who were contemporary with Milton. Then the snake can be analysed as a symbol of corruption and of perfidy. Satan uses a disguise, a snake to talk to eve. He uses his beauty, his eloquence to seduce her. His wave movements, looking like a dance, and his attitude ( Fawning, and licking the ground whereon she strod on verse 526) can be interpreted as a nuptial parade with the snake playing on the primal instinct (which are restricted by religion) of Man to attract Eve in his trap. It is also interesting to note that the occurence of the word Satan is, as Satan himself, disguised in this passage. Here Satan is refered to as the snake or the enemy of mankind on verse 494. The word Satan can only be seen if the reader looks closely at the poem: an acrostic is hidden from verse 510 to 515. This clever technic reflects the vicious strategy of the Devil in the passage. • 29. Childhood Is More Precious Than Childhood Essay In modern day society nothing is more precious than childhood. It is a time full of innocence, love, light and freedom with little to no worries. Childhood has not always been described as this, full of hope and dreams and aspirations, the time to just have fun and not to worry about the future, or wealth. Before the 1800s, childhoodwas not a thing and children were just seen as miniature adults, with no value, other than to carry on families. It was not until after the 1800s were childhood become a national phenomenon. Childhood is set to be this time were its all play and no work, where your parents or guardian is supposed to take care of you, but what about the children that do not have this luxury? Although childhood is a modern day universal subject recognized, not all children get to live their lives the way they are meant to . The problem is dormant within certain societies for many reasons. One is the concept of developed and developing countries and their debt crisis, and another is western and non Western ideals. With these battling each other, it is hard to communicate which one is right versus which one is wrong. When it comes to children and work, is it wrong? Is it ok? Should it be outlawed? There are many religions but, I chose to focus on Christianity. A Christian is someone who believes in the teachings of Jesus Christ. In the Christian faith, there are many denominations, groups with different views, on what the teachings of Jesus Christ mean. I chose to focus on the two specific groups who have strong opinions on how they are treated. I am a strong believer in patient education and the patients right to refuse treatment. Christian Science In the denomination of Christian science, they strongly believe in the power of prayer. This is a common belief for Christians, but they take it a step further. For these believers, the best way, sometimes the only way, to be healed is by prayer. You can use aides like crutches or canes because they aren t changing you. If you are in this culture and you feel that you must go to a doctor, you would have to go to the Christian science doctor. Most of the time, they will only do this for urgent situations or children that aren t healing fast enough. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer but, I also believe that medicine is sometimes necessary. As a healthcare provider, I don t imagine that I will ever treat anyone who believes this way because I wouldn t be able to practice with their doctor. I am sure if they did decide to get medical treatment at a

On May 22, 2011 a tornado spawned east of the Missouri Kansas state line from a massive supercell thunderstorm that quickly escalated into an EF 5 monster. This monster tornado tore a half mile to three quarter mile wide path of total destruction through Joplin, Missouri claiming 161 lives (Smith Sutter, 2013). The response by the local and state government was immediate bringing in a combination of public and private sector efforts. Joplin is one of the few disasters that displayed how recovery efforts should be executed. Public sectors after the disaster focused mainly on clearing debris and bringing the community back into normalcy, while the private sector... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One key factor that helped in the timely recovery of Joplin was the massive volunteer sector efforts. There were more than 92,000 registered volunteers that came from the United States and as far away as Japan to help restore the community (Smith Sutter, 2013). To house all of these volunteers FEMA provided temporary housing units for the volunteers and displaced victims. Immediately after the tornado, the American Red Cross set up shelters for the displaced victims and within two weeks of the disaster they also had a long term recovery committee functioning. Along with the tremendous response from public, private, and volunteer sectors the social media network contributed a huge role in coordinating relief. Most notably the local churches of St. Paul and College Heights utilized Facebook to contact churches outside of Joplin bringing in faith based organizations from all over the United States (Smith Sutter, 2013). The most fascinating aspect of Joplin s recovery was the autonomous nature that the private and public sectors were able to perform under. This can be

  • 34. Reflection On R V Mann INTRODUCTION: In this reflection paper, I will be discussing the R v Mann case. In this case, the specific issue from that judgement I wish to address is whether race is necessary to acknowledge in the dimensions regarding the police detention practices. This reflection paper will first acknowledge how the Supreme Court of Canada could have factored in raceinto its analysis in R v Mann. Next, the paper will examine the case through the lens of the Critical Race Theory (CRT) and cultural competence to help better understand the issue of race. I will then conclude my paper with a brief discussion of the next steps to address where to go from here regarding the issue of race. REFLECTION: This topic is of great interest to me because I was fortunate enough to grow up in a community, surrounded by five First Nations reserves. I chose this case because in my community, an RCMP officer pled guilty to assault causing bodily harm to an Indigenous man and abandoning him 10 kilometres outside of town. Similar to the R v Mann case, race was also neglected from the case in my community. R v Mann established that a police officer must have reasonable grounds when stopping and detaining a particular individual for investigation. However, I disagree with the court failing to adequately address the racial dimensions as I believe the Supreme Court of Canada could have used systematic racism to explain why the officer reacted in such a manner into its analysis in this case. Race was prevalent to the arrest of Mann because Mann was stopped based on the fact that he had matched the race of the known suspect. Significantly, race was a dominant part of the description, mostly since the clothing he was wearing was inconsistent with that part of the suspect s description. Though, the problem is that given our history of overt and systemic racism, race often unconsciously becomes the dominant part of the description used by police. Whether or not the police officers are heavily relying on their intuition, does not negate that those intuitions can be influenced or distorted by unconscious racism. Moreover, I believe it is significant to reflect on the R v Mann case by considering how the R v Golden case plays into it as there

ARCHITECTURAL CHANGES IN 4G TECHNOLOGY In 4G architecture, focus is on the aspect that multiple networks are able to function in such a way that interfaces are transparent to users and services. Since the discovery of the New World in 1492, each country has gone through some level of colonization by a European power and transition to its current state. During this period the regions have seen political, social, religious and economic transformations of various degrees. Only recently has there been any significant attempts at industrialization and many countries are economically backward. From the very outset of the exploration of the New World, members of the church have been side by side with the explorers and colonists. The church had a dual role in Latin America. The church was interested in saving the souls of the indigenous peoples found in the newly discovered regions and also they reinforced the control of the Iberian powers. A unique form of Catholicism emerged that was a mixture of the three cultures mentioned above. The most vivid example of this fusion can be seen in Brazil were dozens of religions have sprouted with African, indigenous and European roots. The final topic of colonial legacies is politics. That could be a slight understatement as I have never previously attended a ballet, and when the question, Surely, you ve all heard of Tchaikovsky, right? was posed I struggled to recognize the name or any significance to my life. It was not until I heard the musical number of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy that the gears of my mind finally associated it with memory. While the first few notes of the celesta filled the room with carefree delight, I was transported back to the cold, laminated floor of my farmhouse bedroom. Sitting on the gaily colored rug in the middle of my six feet by seven feet small expanse of space, I remember holding my china ballerina/music box so gently. The object itself is about twenty inches tall. It is a beautiful ballerina in a lavender tutu with matching slippers and a delicate crown of flowers in her hair. The ballerina is perched upon a white cylinder, almost reminiscent of a cake topper, that is embellished with glitter and flowers and all of the pretty works. When the key is turned, the melody flows angelically through my small room, and I feel as if I am not longer present instead, I am swept away to a wonderous, snowy world with enchanting dancers. The Empire State Building was the first commercial construction project to employ the technique of fast track construction, a commonplace approach today but very new in the early 20th Century. This technique consists of starting the construction process before the designs are fully completed in order to reduce delays and inflation costs. In this case, it was imperative to use the fast track construction method to win the race for the tallest building (2). Therefore, because training and development activities are planned programs of organizational improvement, and it is important that the programs are planned as thoroughly as possible, since the ultimate objective is to link training content to a desired job behavior (Cascio Aguinis, 2011). A five step process should be considered as Kudler strategizes on a training and development program. The first consideration would be to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the training and development system, including the system s interaction with other organizational systems. Kudler s second step to consider would be to determine training needs and specify training objectives clearly and explicitly. The third consideration for Kudler would be to create an optimal environment for training, decomposing the learning task into its structural components. The last two considerations for Kudler would be to determine an optimum sequencing of the components, and to find other options for learning. Paying close

The Effects of Different Temperatures on Starch breakdown by Amylase Daniel Pulido Panther ID: 5443744 General Biology 1 Lab Section: U 19 Lab Partners: Gretel Perez Alondra Vega Abstract In this experiment we wanted to determine the optimal temperatures for fungal, Aspergillus oryzae, and bacterial, Bacillus licheniformis. In order to see if any of the starch was broken down, Iodine was mixed with the starch amylase substance. In four spot plates, the groups labeled the different temperatures, once the iodine came in contact with the starch, the result would be a reaction that turns the fluid into this dark blue/black color. In a span of 10 minutes, with occasional check ups on the solution every 2 minutes, the amylase starch solution was placed into five types of temperature, all being Celsius. The five temperatures were 0 degrees, 25 degrees, 55 degrees, and 85 degrees Celsius. The solution would change colors, so in order to measure the changes, a scale was used. Such scale was a 1 5 scale, with colors next to each number. One being the lightest color, or yellow, and 5 being the darkest color, or black. Based on the change of color, we could tell how fast it hydrolyzed the starch in a span of 10 minutes. To keep record of the results, the results were put in Data Tables used from the Lab Manual. The average optimal temperature for Bacteria Amylase was 85 degrees Celsius, while the Fungal was 55 degrees Celsius. You can see this by looking for the

In fact, a study conducted by TerraChoice (2010) found that in 2010, over 95 percent of greener products were found to be greenwashed (6). The term greenwashing stems from whitewashing, and is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as disinformation disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible public image. Advertising plays a major role in shaping consumer behavior, and companies guilty of greenwashing are educating consumers with false or distorted information. This is important because the general population s desire to purchase products that are environmentally friendly is being hampered by the current cloud of greenwashing allegations, making it increasingly difficult for consumers to distinguish fact from fiction. From the time when alcohol was legalized in America on March 22nd, 1933, to the present day, society has become accustomed to the idea of binge drinking(an excessive amount of alcohol in a short amount of time). Alcoholismis now becoming more and more of a social norm. According to a National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 56% of people ages 18 and up reported to have drank in the last month. Alcohol use is promoted in almost all aspects of our lives, whether on billboards in the city, at local gas stations, or especially on the television. Many television shows are based around the idea of drinking, having main characters take part in the socially accepted norm. One of the TV shows that effectively addresses the notion to people associated with alcoholics and the effects on others around them is The Office more specifically in the episode Moroccan Christmas . In this episode, the time setting is near Christmas. The theme around the office is blatantly, Moroccan. In the conference room, there was a bar in the corner where anybody could make their own drinks. Meredith, who is known throughout the show to be a heavy drinker, habitually begins to drink glass after glass having no one to tell her to drink responsibly. After jumping to and from scenes the camera then focuses on Meredith, who is now dancing with fire atop her head, no one is in the room at the time. Dwight must use his fire extinguisher to put the hazard out. Michael, who is the boss of the entire office conducts what he calls an intervention. In summary of the rest of the episode, Michael is the only one in the office that is trying to help Meredith get over her alcoholic conditions by taking her into a rehabilitation center, while others in the office are more infatuated on having a real Christmas. Alcohol is one of the most used drug around the world and especially in the U.S. By drinking, it alters the state of mind and slows the body s functions. Individuals must be careful because it can affect work habit. In the USA, almost 80% of binge and heavy drinkers, and 60% of people

  • 53. Analysis of Mystic Monk Coffee Case Essay Analysis of Mystic Monk Coffee 1. Executive Summary As the Prior of the Carmelite Order of monks in Clark, Father Daniel Mary has established a future direction for the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming. He has a clear vision that he wants to expand the monastery by buying a 500 acre ranch, which can enable to build a Gothic church, a convent for Carmelite nuns, a retreat center for lay visitors, and a hermitage including 30 monks. Father Daniel Mary cannot make the vision come true unless he can collect enough money to pay for the $8.9 million listing price of that ranch. In this circumstance, the vision for Mystic Monk Coffee (MMC) is to sell more coffee to fund the Carmelite Monks of Wyoming. Therefore, the mission of the Carmelite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One part is to purchase $35,000 for a larger roaster. Let s assume that monks worked eight hours a day, and then this new roaster can help them to raise production by 500 pounds per day (130*8 540=500). The other part is to put wholesale sales churches and local coffee shops. MMC s strategy is a money maker because it has a competitive advantage. It focuses on the niche market the U.S. Catholic population who drinks coffee and wishes to support the monastery s mission. In the U.S., this population is over 69 million. Consequently, this business has a good potential to provide profit. However, MMC needs to improve its advertising strategy to increase brand awareness. Currently, it only uses its website to place its orders and customers can only notice this brand from word of mouth or some affiliate websites. MMC should use social media like Facebook or Twitter to advertize its products. It can also cooperate with other Carmelite churches or groceries to distribute its coffee packages. This is because over 133.5 million (150 million*89%=133.5 million) coffee drinkers in the United States brew their own coffee at home. And among them, about 30 million coffee drinkers prefer premium quality specialty coffees. MMC provides quality coffee that will attract these loyal coffee consumers, who are more willing to pay more to buy coffee made by high quality fair trade and organic Arabica beans. 4.

As a poet Basho s phenomenal word choice and description allowed us readers to view his journey as if we are there with him. It is amazing to see that Basho is such a religious person who has visited various shrines, temples, and met many new and old friends and created new haiku s. In addition, this reading was interesting to me because it shows Basho s motivation to become more enlightened and his choice to live according to Buddha s life as expressed through his poems. Reading this journal was one of the best pieces of literature that I have read because of what I got to learn as a

Pros And Cons Of Filibuster Today, Supreme Court Nominee s, Neil Gorsuch, Confirmation hearing came near conclusion on a very confrontational note with the Senate s Principal Democrat threatening to filibuster. This would complicate the way the senate conducts its business . The Republicans eager to confirm Gorsuch only have a 52 majority instead of the 60 majority that is necessary. However, they say he will be confirmed anyway, even if it means removing the filibuster option and allowing nominees to be confirmed with a simple majority vote. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer s decision to filibuster was not unexpected but it will increase tension in the senate. If this nominee cannot earn 60 votes a bar met by each of President Obama s nominees, and George Bush s last two nominees the answer isn t to change the rules. It s to change the nominee, he said. Although the democrats do not have the votes to block this motion, his filibuster will publicize the resistance in the Congress. One thing that I was confused about is how this filibuster could prevent Judge Gorsuch from being confirmed. In fact, I was confused how any filibuster gets anything done. I thought the entire point of a filibuster was to tire out your opponents until the bend to your will. I now understand that filibustering increases the number of votes need to pace a law. I also know that the Republicans are considering exercising the Nuclear Option which would bypass the filibuster letting Gorsuch be elected with less than 60 votes. So really Gorsuch is going to be confirmed no matter what and hopefully the consequences won t be
