Entering the Paula and Leonard Granoff Gallery at the RISD museum every work
of art is like a hidden gem waiting to be found. A small sculpture in the corner of the
gallery is one of those hidden gems made by the artist brothers of Nikolai and Simon
Haas. The Haas brothers created the sculpture, Big Baby Accretion with Navajo
Striations, in 2016. The creation is 12.25 inches tall including the thin spout at the
top. It is meant to represent natural formations created in nature. For example, the
uppermost part of the sculpturehas a texture resembling coral and the bottom texture
resembling tree fungi. Even though the two textures are different, they still form a
cohesive piece giving the viewer an overall feeling of balance. Overall the sculpture
is a piece with many details having great impact on the viewer.
Seeing the Big Baby Accretion with Navajo Striations, the viewer receives a
unique experience. When the viewer is standing at a distance the sculpture has the
appearance of a small mass with a soft texture. The artwork seems to have white
spots covering the surface like the first flurries of a snowstorm landing on dark
pavement. As the viewer moves closer toward the artwork, the once small mass
becomes a bigger object than expected. At the same time, texture is beginning to
appear more like a freshly groomed bush. Different variations of color are starting to

other 9th grade books. While you guys might feel that your gonna read how a guy
gets a scholarship and wins a championship but this book proves that not every
