1. Australia Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of Australia presents a multifaceted challenge. It demands
comprehensive research into Australia's history, culture, geography, economy, politics, and more.
This requires sifting through an extensive array of sources, ranging from scholarly articles and
books to government publications and firsthand accounts.
Moreover, capturing the essence of such a diverse and dynamic country necessitates a nuanced
understanding of its complexities. One must navigate through the intricate layers of indigenous
heritage, colonial legacy, multicultural society, environmental issues, and contemporary
challenges. Balancing these elements while maintaining coherence and depth in the essay poses a
considerable intellectual endeavor.
Furthermore, the task involves synthesizing disparate information into a cohesive narrative that is
both informative and engaging. Crafting a compelling thesis, structuring the essay effectively,
and supporting arguments with credible evidence are essential components of the writing
process. Additionally, addressing potential counterarguments and offering thoughtful analysis
further adds to the complexity.
In essence, composing an essay on this topic demands not only rigorous research and critical
thinking skills but also creativity and empathy to accurately represent the diverse facets of
Australia. It is a challenging yet rewarding endeavor that requires dedication and a genuine
interest in exploring the richness of this fascinating country.

2. Beam Project
The goal of the beam project is to design and construct a beam that can hold a given
amount of weight without breaking. The beam is required to hold a concentrated
load of 375 lbf on the X axis and 150 lbf on the Y axis. The maximum allowable
weight of the beam is 250 grams. The maximum allowable deflection for the beamis
0.230 in. and 0.200 in. for the X and Y axis respectively. The beam is required to be
24 in. in length, and it will be tested on a simply supported configuration spanning 21
in. All calculations are to be done under the assumption that the density of basswood
is 28 lbm/ft3 and the modulus of elasticityfor basswood is 1.46x106 lbm/in2. Given
the constraints of a spending cost of $10.50, a maximum beam weight of 250 grams,

When tested, the actual weight of the beam was 210 grams, the beams deflection
on the x axis came out to be .169 in. and the y axis deflection came out to be .137
in. In the calculations for the design of the beam, it was calculated that the beam
would weigh around 233 grams however it turned out to be nearly 23 grams lighter.
One reason why the beam may have been so much lighter is because the actual
density of the wood may have varied from the theoretical density. Since wood is a
natural product, it is not possible to determine the actual density unless the density
was calculated individually for each piece of wood which was not done in this
experiment. The fact that the beam was lighter than anticipated may have also
accounted for a higher deflection than what was calculated. The deflection of the
beam was expected to be .1086 in. with a 20% safety factor included however the
actual deflection ended up being .169 in. which could have been caused by the
fact that the wood was not as dense as expected. It may have been possible to
achieve a higher efficiency factor by using a different proposed beam that weighed
less than the one used however that would have risked a significant increase in the
deflection. It also would have been possible to achieve a lower deflection however
that would potentially lower the efficiency factor because it would have required
larger, heavier pieces of lumber. The fact that the materials used for the project
were limited to coming from the 1201 lumber yard and the fact that the modulus of
elasticity and density of the wood were assumed could all be reasons as to why there
were differences between the theoretical and experimental values. One way in which
it may have been possible to achieve test results that were closer to the calculated
results would have been to calculate the true density of the wood. Another way to
possibly enhance

In...
As we age, many of our body s abilities begin to fade (Hedden Gabrieli, 2004;
Nilson, 2003; as cited in Basak, Book, Voss, Kramer, 2008). Two important
abilities that decline quickly are our ability to process information and our
memory (Schaie, 1996; Bopp Verhaegen, 2005; as cited in Basak, Book, Voss,
Kramer, 2008). It has been medically proven that after the age of sixty, people are
at risk of losing their cognitive control (Basak, Book, Voss, Kramer, 2008). By the
year 2030, it is estimated that the population consisting of individuals sixty five and
older is expected to rise up to 71.5 million (Stineman, Xie, Pan, Kurichi, Saliba,

This study wanted to compare the results and differences between young adults (62
and younger) and older adults (63 and older) (Heisz, et.al, 2014). Heisz, et.al used the
Victoria Longitudinal Study Activities Questionnaire to acquire data during the
physical and socio cognitive activities and watching television (2014). The authors
found that compared to the younger adults, the older adults showed that while
participating in leisure, non engaging television viewing, they were less active
(Heisz, et.al, 2014). This finding means that more television watching and fewer
activities could be harmful mentally towards older adults (Heisz, et.al, 2014). In a
study conducted by Pauline Maillot, Alexandra Perrot, and Alan Hartley, they wanted
to study the effects that exergames would have on their participants physicality and

the participants many cognitive tests along with physical activity tests after they
completed the exergames (Maillot, et.al, 2012). The authors found that the
experimental group showed increased scores on their cognitive tests along with slight
increases in their physical aptitude tests (Maillot, et.al, 2012). Maillot and colleagues

4. Women In Gabriel Marquez s Chronicle Of A Death
Foretold
Chronicle of a Death Foretold
Throughout the world women have been discriminated. Having unfair wages, jobs,
voting rights and more. And it is shown through Angela Vicario being judged and
told what or what she is not able to do. Though it s been getting better as the years
gone by. In Gabriel Marquez novel, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, he uses the
character Angela Vicario to emphasize the unfair nature of women s role in Latin
American Society through the loss of her virginity, being dictated by everyone
around her and the judgement that comes when getting married compared to where
families are more focused on making them the brightest they can be and the society is
also less judgemental.
Throughout the novel Angela Vicario proves the unfair nature of women s roles
through the loss of her virginity. It is shown when Angela Vicario is being
criticized harshly for losing her virginity to Santiago Nassar when it s not even
looked upon whether or not you are a virgin if you are a man. When Angela
Vicario says, The only thing I prayed to god for was to give the courage to kill
myself, Angela Vicario told me. But he didn t give it to me. (22) Marquez gives us
insight on how the Latin American Society values a woman. In this case it is valued
more than the woman s life. Which is why Angela Vicario was thinking about taking
her own life instead of dealing with the criticism. Because she feels as if her life isn t
worth living because of what others think of
5. Machiavellian and Kantian Analysis of Buddy Fletcher and
SEC
Machiavellian Analysis Buddy Fletcher was able to use his financial success and
philanthropy to win respect and power. His high esteem combined with his ability
to deliver strong profits lead to blind deference. As Machiavelli wrote, he who is
highly esteemed is not easily conspired against 11 (Ch. 19). In the beginning of his
career, Fletcher embodies the spirit of a Machiavellian leader by commanding
influence through his success. However, in the spirit of Kant, he seems to adhere to
strong moral principles, such as not lying and using others as merely means to his
end. However, as details of his success were revealed, his moral character becomes
increasingly questionable. Firstly, he did not disclose the methods by which he was...

This large scale deception is a clear violation of the principle of universality. If every
financier acted like Fletcher, financial systems throughout the world would be
destroyed. Trust is a key component and without trust, these systems would lose all
their credibility. Fletcher made an exception of himself, violating the maxim of not
lying, and took advantage of a trusted system and naive individuals. Fletcher shows
his lack of integrity, a quality Kant believed central to his moral theory12 (pg. 155).
This lack of integrity only further demonstrates Fletcher s immorality. Buddy Fletcher
s actions were motivated by selfish desires that he attempted to justify through
outlandish philanthropy. Lacking pure motivations, Fletcher used others to suit his
own end. Exercising extreme moral hazard, Fletcher lied his way into millions of
dollars12. When his fund turned out to be insolvent, it is the individuals pension
funds that suffer, not Fletcher himself. This is a clear violation of the humanity
principle. The humanity principle states that one must never use others as merely a
means to their own end. He took pension funds from unwitting individuals and used
them for personal needs, such as funding of his brother s failed movie10. Not only
did he lie to investors about the success of the fund, but he used their investments for
personal use. He completely violates the humanity principle, using

especially when it comes to the ancient Greeks and the Chinese. Mixing Bowl
Depicting Dueling Scene from the Trojan War and the Nine Dragons scroll, though

Chinese scroll art starts with mounting the backs of silks with paper and pasting
them before creating the borders of the scroll. The whole scroll is then backed
before the roller or fittings are attached. This process could take weeks or months.
There are five different traditional formats that scrolls were painted in. Thin strip,...

The process consisted of throwing the pieces on the wheel then joining them
together with slip. Then the decorations were added. There are two main ways that
Greek pottery was decorated, red figure and black figure. Black figure is when a

iron is added to create the figures on the vessel. The opposite is true for Red figure.
This is when the black was added to create all the lines, leaving the figures red. The

An event that happened in America in the decade of the 1920s there was a large
creative movement that affected or encouraged change in the United States history.
According to the online Openstax textbook called U.S. History published by P. Scott
Corbett, Volker Janssen, John M. Lund, Todd Pfannenstiel and Paul Vickery states
This mixture of social, political, economic, and cultural change and conflict gave the
decade the nickname the Roaring Twentiesor the Jazz Age. A widespread of economic
prosperity, social change and a form of expression made a way for society to begin
to walk down the path of the modern age. Especially for women, African Americans,
and the youth generation. Thereby, redefining the nation for the youth to forget about
the post world war one era and embrace the new morality, for African American to
showcase their intellectual contributions and link their struggle to the world, for
women to expand their human rights and be liberated from society standards, and
for American to begin their new lives because of invention in medicine and
technology. So, how did the Roaring Twenties and or the Jazz Age affect the decade
of the 1920sin the United States history?
First, there was a variety of inventions that was beneficial to health and wellness, and
economically prosperous for producers and somewhat labor free for consumers,
during the 1920s. Three examples of inventions that were created during the Roaring
Twenties and or the Jazz Age was the radio, the
9. Columbine Documentary Techniques Essay
Three years after the massacre at Columbine High School, left wing political
filmmaker Michael Moore released his award winning documentary Bowling for
Columbine, which persuasively conveyed his negative view on the ownership and
retail of guns and ammunition in America. Moore s emphatic use of documentary
techniques and fallacies collaborate to strengthen his biased message, that America s
questionable attitude towards firearms is the primary cause of the Columbine High
School massacreand other acts of arm related violence. Throughout the film, Moore
continually utilizes such techniques as juxtaposition, where he creates irony to
weaken an opposing argument though disparity. Furthermore, the use of a cartoon
segment serves to satirise the opposing point of view, combined with interviews
where hard hitting questions are carefully chosen to attempt to catch the subject off
guard.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is perfectly exemplified during the What a Wonderful World montage, where
multiple clips portray the US as the aggressor nation in several conflicts. These are
juxtaposed with Louis Armstrong s What a Wonderful World which has a deep and
touching message describing the beauty of life and the earth. Juxtaposing clips with
music in this way creates irony, because the war montage illustrates this to be
anything but a wonderful world. Additionally, the fact that What a Wonderful World
was written to bring hope to those suffering the effects of war further reinforces this
irony. Therefore, it can be concluded that by combining this graphic war footage with
a classic peace song, Moore strengthens his negative bias against America s violent

As the saying goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely. In Othello by William
Shakespeare, Iago thoroughly abuses the power of the trust that others have in him.
The story takes place in Venice, Italy, and in Cyprus, during the late 16th century.
Iago, an ensign, is attempting to manipulate Othello, the Venetian general, into
feeling jealous of his wife, Desdemona. Iagowants Othelloto feel the same as he did
when Othello picked another soldier, Cassio, over him for the position of lieutenant.
As Othello progresses, Iago increasingly abuses the trust that others have in him in
order to execute his schemes, because he enjoys holding control over those more
powerful than him; this point is evident when he when he manipulates Roderigo (a

resist jumping in one last time to suggest a new way of killing Desdemona, one of
a twisted poetic justice. This does not really help Iago s situation, as no matter how
Desdemona dies, Othello would likely be caught. This is especially clear later as
Othello is not even really secretive about it, at least partly because he believes he is
morally right due to her supposed

What is Media Use, anyway?
Interacting with anything that has a screen is termed as the use of media. There are
several advantages and disadvantages of its usage. Parents usually define media
consumption as useless. However, it totally depends on the user how he/she uses it
effectively. Electronic media plays a significant role in children s academics as well.
Parents fail to get the fact that digital learning is equally important for a child s
educational experience.
A More Useful Definition
We have classified media interaction into three separate categories which can be
referred as the three C s.
Media Consumption: To consume media passively without contributing.
Media Creation: To produce and distribute in a way that needs active participation
and problem solving skills.
Media Communication: To use media to communicate with people.

13. A Brief Note On Pedestrian Detection Of Surveillance
Pedestrian Detection in Surveillance
Abstract
Pedestrian detection is fragmented as there are numerous algorithms used in different
research. This research aims to provide an overview to understand the current state of
pedestrian detection as well as analyse the challenges, effectiveness, accuracy and
cost benefit of different approaches used in surveillance and how current challenges
are being tackled.
Introduction
Pedestrian detection is a key problem in computer vision. There are a number of ways
that makes it difficult to achieve without faults due to the differences in colour,
motion, orientation and poses of individual human beings but also segregation of the
background which may or may not be cluttered as well as other moving objects that
just might get in the way.
Even though it is a difficult matter it is still a major research areas as there a great
implications of perfecting the system. Key application could include in the field of
surveillance, robotics as well as a tool in vehicular safety. It can also be used in a
commercial apects as businesses would be able to count the number of pedestrians
creating a flow statistics for optimizing their business. For it to be effective it
should be able to handle emerging complex scenarios such as speed of detection for
vehicles to enable them to avoid or stop immediately and the accuracy in detecting
pedestrian through a crowd for businesses. These applications can also then be
forwarded to surveillance as factors

Dystopian novels have been written throughout history to show possible futures in
which humans suffer from oppressive governments. All of these novels show what
will happen if humanity continues to make certain choices. Dystopian novels affect
the choices of everyone who reads them because they don t want their children and
grandchildren to live under oppression. These sources, by Henley, Mandela, and
Wiesel, use imagery to create dystopian like futures and real life examples of what a
dystopian future would look like to warn us of these futures and show how dystopian

Irish Culture in America
I.Introduction
The history of Ireland is diverse and fact is mixed with fiction. Through the years in
which Ireland had a famine, many people migrated over to the United States in
order to have a better life and gain some prosperity. When they arrived they were met
with less than open arms, but rather a whole new world of discrimination. I will be
discussing the summary I have done on the discrimination of Irish in America today,
followed by my reactions, two other Irish blooded reactions, the history, identities,
and transitions, of these people of which I learned through doing this research.

Not all the Irish drink and the stereotype is false in many cases pertaining to Irish
Americans. Another value of the Irish is uncertainty avoidance, which concerns the
degree to which people who feel threatened by ambiguous situations respond by
avoiding them (Martin Nakayama, 2000, 70). This leads the Irish to prefer to reduce
rules, accept dissent, and take risks (Martin Nakayama, 2000, 70). This can be
supported by the massive immigration to the United States during the Potato Famine.
Many Irish took to the seas during this period, and it was a great risk for so many
to cross a sea and enter a world new to them, breaking away from the British power
that controlled their lives. This emigration also demonstrates a sense of free will,
which encompasses the need for change and to continue trying even if you fail. I
noticed that the Irish are perceived as a group that works hard for what it wants and
doesn t seem to give in to the norms of society. The new vision of Irish immigrants
seems to be much healthier than that of previous generalizations. The action and
doing value, which is entangled in the values, seems to be present in the lives of Irish
immigrants, The young Irish coming over here today are much more sophisticated,
more educated, and more ambitious (Krim Early, 1995, p.33). There is a definite

17. Childhood Advertisement Analysis
Childhood Advertisement
By Toby Lee
Obesity is a huge problem that is multiplying at an alarming rate but could it be
caused by advertising. But there are reasons like tv that count on kids being inactive
for them to make money. Also the ads that focus on food are especially dangerous.
Finally how does the obesity affect kids when they re adults.
Tv is a key part in advertising to kids by making them inactive. The way they do it
is by using the tv shows kids love and putting commercials during the program. But
they need to keep their attention so they use pretty colors and short fast cuts to keep
their attention. I feel that to keep healthy, parents should encourage their kids to
work out or run for a little bit, it doesn t even have to be long, just a quick 30 minutes.

Ads like Arby s that say they have the meats trying to imply they have the best kind
of meat on the market or McDonald s that added apples to the menu to make worried
parents think their food is healthy but in reality it is still just as bad as it was before.
The ads then cause kids who are already unhealthy to get even more unhealthy
when they see these ads and want their food even more causing a cycle that makes
them obese. These tactics have been around for a long time but they got worse now
that kids don t work out as much as they use to do. To stop this behavior, parents just
need to say no to their kids.
Finally, I d like to talk about how obesity could affect adults. Some side effects of
obesity can be type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and High Total, LDL Cholesterol and
triglyceride levels in the blood to name a few. But they can also be just as heavy if
not more than they were as kids due to advertising in their adult life and not being
able to leave it alone. This a really really bad problem that needs to be fixed or a least
help the parents by making programs with less ads so the parents don t have to

19. Summary Of The Paranoid Style In American Politics
The Prevalence of Political Paranoia
In the controversial essay, which was first published in the November 1964 issue of
Harper s Magazine, The Paranoid Style in American Politics, Richard Hofstadter
argues how the prevalence of paranoia in American politics has dominated the
country. Hofstadter asserts American politics have been governed by paranoiasince
the creation of the United States, and it has manifested itself into the minds of both
average and intellectuals Americans. He contends that paranoia has played a pivotal
role in American politics by fostering fear in citizens regarding issues such as gender,
ethnicity, race, and religion and proclaims the reason fear is heightened in citizens
has more to do with the style in which panic is spread than any other factor.
Furthermore, the author claims the sole issue dictating American politics is not
simply paranoia, but rather a problem internationally caused, primarily, through
misconceptions and false imaginations. Hofstadter also explores the affiliation
paranoia has to power, to corruption, and to the government. Additionally, he
examines the reasoning behind many skeptics and paranoids in the country today and
describes the techniques with which they spread panic and hysteria, through methods
such as books, speeches, and media. The Paranoid Style in American Politics, by
Richard Hofstadter, demonstrates the critical role paranoia plays in dictating
American politics through the utilization of academic diction, anecdotal evidence,
logical appeals, an explanatory tone, and chronological organization.
Hofstadter employs a scholastic tone by incorporating academic diction into his
essay, to establish credibility when discussing paranoia and its roots in American
politics. When examining paranoia, Hofstadter argues that it establishes a greater
affinity for bad causes than good (Hofstadter 77). Through this phrase, and the
language Hofstadter applies, it can be concluded that the intended audience for this
piece is intellectuals. The author s diction and tone identify Hofstadter s belief of
paranoia doing little to spark progressive change in America, but rather hindering the
development of policies and activities which would combat real problems.

Narrative Techniques in
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a novel by John Boyne. This novel is set during
World War 2 and explores themes such as prejudice, racism, war, innocence and
friendship. What sets it apart from other novels is that it uses a third person limited
point of view, and mostly depicts events as they are seen by a young and naГЇve boy.
This was one of the main narrative conventions that engaged me in this novel.
The point of view is the most interesting and important narrative convention of this
novel. It is written in third person limited mostly from Bruno, the young boys,
perspective. This means it does not use I or we but we do get to find out what the
main character is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He merely parrots back things that he has heard others say as he thinks this is
normal and he has no way to know otherwise. One particularly poignant example is
Heil Hitler, he said, which, he presumed, was another way of saying, Well, goodbye
for now, have a pleasant afternoon. p.54. This made me as a reader wonder wether I
would be blind to the harsh reality if I had been raised in that way. I think that this is
one of the most important things Boyne wants this novel to make us think about.
In parts of the novel Bruno begins to actually lose his innocence and learn and
understand more about the world around him. For example, when he is talking to
Maria about his father and she starts to speak to him about her earlier life he
realized for the first time that he had never fully considered her to be a person with
a life and a history of her own, p.60. This process is not fast enough as this
innocence still leads to his early death in a gas chamber. However, he thinks that he
is just going on a march while he was trying to help his friend, and this means that
he is not afraid. His innocence acts like courage, and shields him from fear while
placing him in danger.
There are also symbols and comparisons made in the novel. Mostly these are during
interactions between Bruno and Shmuel, and often they are very unrealistic, and do
not further the plot but instead are there just to make a point. For

The Trump Effect
Donald Trump s meteoric political rise during the Presidential Election of 2016 put
attention on the media and the way they covered the election and will forever change
both politics and media going forward. The media was shown to be a bias, ratting
chasing, and corrupt extension of the political parties. We will encompass the entire
campaign from the June 2015 announcement that he was running, covering the
primaries, then to the convention, along the path of the general campaign, and finally
in the post election coverage. We will look at the financials, the main stream medias
role, and changes that are necessary going forward.
Let us start with a recap. On Tuesday June 16, 2015 Donald J. Trump came down the
escalator at his Trump Towerproperty and announced the official launch of his
presidential campaign. Much like everything else he did in this campaign it was
mired in controversy as this was the venue of the infamous statement and I quote
when Mexico send their people they aren t sending their best their rapist, their
murders and drug dealers... Initial reaction to Trump s announcement was mixed.
Some thought it was a P.R stunt thinking he would quit after a few weeks, others
started calling foul on his bigoted and racist statements against Mexicans, and yet
some where excited having longed for a common sense business minded person to
run the country.
Trump started the Republican Primary Process against 18 opponents. The top ten

Training Strategy Proposal
Training and development imply changes, particularly changes in knowledge, skills,
attitudes, or social behaviors, and although many strategies exist for effecting change,
training and development are common and important ones. Organizations exist
everywhere and with each organization it has its own set of objectives to function
effectively. To have an organization function effectively, the organization must
subdivide its overall objectives into various jobs. Jobs differ in their requirements,
similarly, people differ in aptitudes, abilities, and interests, and along many other
dimensions. Faced with such variability in jobs and their requirements on the one

This involves breaking down barriers, sharing information, using a collaborative
approach to problem solving, and orienting employees toward continuous learning
and improvement. Leaders who are to transform employees to bring out his or her
creativity, imagination, and best efforts require well developed interpersonal skills,
founded on an understanding of human behavior in organizations. Therefore, because
training and development activities are planned programs of organizational
improvement, and it is important that the programs are planned as thoroughly as
possible, since the ultimate objective is to link training content to a desired job
behavior (Cascio Aguinis, 2011).
A five step process should be considered as Kudler strategizes on a training and
development program. The first consideration would be to conduct a comprehensive
analysis of the training and development system, including the system s interaction
with other organizational systems. Kudler s second step to consider would be to
determine training needs and specify training objectives clearly and explicitly. The
third consideration for Kudler would be to create an optimal environment for
training, decomposing the learning task into its structural components. The last two
considerations for Kudler would be to determine an optimum sequencing of the
components, and to find other options for learning. Paying close

Stage six happens on days nine through thirteen. This is the stage when Fast Plants
will begin to develop the buds for flowers on its tip, or shoot meristem. Stage seven is
on days fourteen through seventeen, and in this time the Wisconsin Fast Plants
flowers will bloom, and pollination may occur.
Stage eight occurs on days eighteen through twenty. During this time, seed pods will
develop. The final stage is stage nine, which occurs on days twenty one to forty.
This will be when the Fast Plant begins to wilt and die, and its seed pods will begin
to become dry and eventually and await planting. Then the entire life cycle will begin
all over again.

Likewise is another similarity, although this one counts only for Fast Plants and
average sized stars: both will die if they run out of that element they convert, by
which I mean that if Wisconsin Fast Plants run out of nitrogen, they will die, as not
having any nitrogen is like not having any oxygen for us; they wouldn t be able to

audience that has their point of views and to establish a reputation as a writer and a
critic which develops a following and somehow makes them qualified to tell their
readers what is good and/or bad. Both articles take the stance of stereotyping
cultures and what they think when it comes to Jerry Lewis. Stereotyping is a

not the fault of Lewis. His work was appealing to the French (and many American

From the information in both articles an argument for or against Lewis got lost
and became more about how American critics perceived the French interpretation
of Lewis as an auteur. That is the French were more impressed with Lewis because
of his style in presenting the topics within his films. American critics seemed to be
appalled that Lewis was the French s perception of what American male life was
like. However, Is it ok that Americans think of the French as all having berets,
wearing black and white striped shirts, riding bikes with baguettes in their basket?

These lines are spoken at the start of act II scene II after Romeo has already met
Juliet and takes place in Capulet s orchard after the Capulet ball. Romeo has just

is spoken by Romeo Juliet enters above from her balcony. In this extended
metaphor, Romeo compares the balcony to the east which from the sun arises and
Juliet to the sun coming along to brighten the dark night. Although this scene takes
place in the dark of night Juliet s beauty makes him imagine the sun and its
brightness transforming the dark night into daylight. Romeo personifies the moon
by saying it is pale and sick with grief he goes on to continue to compare Juliet to

usual problems associate with TRC s, that is they often promise to achieve more
than the allocated time and resources allow, (Raddatz, pg. 1 18). This was very
apparent in Liberia as a long list of goals were hoped to be achieved by the TRC.
Over the three years the commission was investigating, many began to lose faith
and question its reputation. Things started off rocky, the TRC sought to collect
statements from one percent of the country s population, or approximately 35,000
people. By the end of 2007, despite serious capacity constraints, the Commission
had collected and processed over 17,000 statements, (Raddatz, pg. 1 18), far less
than what was originally promised. The commission also reportedly faced
challenges from within, infighting, mistrust across the board, among committee
members, between they and the government, they and the UN, they and members
of the international community, (Raddatz, pg. 1 18). In the end, the TRC s final
report was considered a practical pursuit for Liberians. Government officials of
Liberia today believe it has changed the political landscape for good. Real
problems still surround the report and how it handles victims and war criminals.

The Use of Turbine Blades in Generating Electricity
Turbines are used in many different ways produce and generate electricity. They are
used as gas turbines, coal turbines and steam turbines. Each one has a different
property, which makes it unique. Airlines and cars generally run on gas turbines.
Steam engines, ships and railway engines run on coal turbines as coal produces a high
amount of energy that enables them to run for long length of time before adding
more coal.
In order for these turbine s to operate well and efficiently with as little maintenance as
possible, it is necessary for the turbine s to have well constructed, well designed

In order to cope with the pressures of having to implement the need to be lightweight
and environmentally friendly, they have to improve the mechanical and thermal
strength in order to match keep up with the rising technology and competition.
Turbine blades have to be able to endure temperatures around and greater then 500OC,
in order for them to be useful. A reasonably lightweight alloy commonly used in the
production of turbine blades is an often a long SiC fibre reinforced titanium alloy for
the highly mechanically loaded parts. By using sputtering techniques followed by hot
isostatic pressing cycles, the components then become strengthened in comparison to
conventional materials, which are manufactured.
These alloys are heavily researched to adapt to long term behaviour which the
turbines and blades undergo. These researches focuses on the durability of the
turbines and degrading reactions at fibre matrix interfaces as well as internal
protective layers. This means that they test the materials under extreme conditions
e.g. high temperatures or duration periods, which will enable them to find the stress
points which will be more prone to damage than other areas as well as disintegration
points.
By conducting these research experiments, engineers have been able to produce a
fibre reinforced material that is oxidation resistant (rusting) and damage tolerant for a
long duration of time and for temperature up to 1400OC,

The Mexica thrived on a tributary system made for the elite and powerful warriors
that dominated the society. The Mexica arrived in central Mexico during the middle
of the thirteenth century. The main objective of the tributary system was for subject
people to receive high quality items. These people received textiles, rabbit fur
blankets, jewelry and much more because of their statue in society. Ruling elites
entrusted some of these items to officially recognized merchants, who took them to
distant lands and exchanged them for local products. The ruling elites unlike many
imperial states in the eastern hemisphere had no elaborate bureaucracy or admiration
of which they followed. Standing armies were also only assembled when they
launched campaigns of expansion or mounted punitive expeditions against
insubordinate subjects. Nevertheless, the Mexica had a strong reputation for their
military prowess. The Mexica showered wealth and honors on the military elite.
Accomplished warriors received enormous amounts of land while the most
successful discussed public issues and filled government positions. They ate the best
foods turkey, duck, deer, boar and consumed most of the luxury items such as vanilla
and cacao. Even the way they dressed reflected their social status, the sumptuary

32. China And The Phenomenon Of Cooperation
Everyone wants to win. Students want to achieve higher scores than others;
officers want to be outstanding among the colleagues; athletes want to get the
championships in different competitions. The reason that people have emulation is
due to the human desire to win. It became human nature since a really long time
ago. Human competed with ferocious species, like lions and tigers, in order to
obtain resources and territories. However, different from this kind of competition,
human also grouped together to gain larger population and power to intimidate
other species and discouraged them from attacking human beings. The human
desire to win leads to collaboration between species as well as different groups of
people. James Fallows, a famous writer and journalist, discusses a Chinese reality
TV show called Win In China and the phenomenon of cooperation in the show in
his article Win In China! Though Naomi Klein, a well known author as well as an
activist, concerns about the barriers brought by capitalism in her passage Fences of
Enclosure, Windows of Possibility , she also mentions different types of
collaboration whose purpose is to make the society better. As a representation of
human desire to win, cooperation gathers people together, widens their minds and
enables efficient development, which can create a secure, large scale and stable
economy. This kind of cooperation can occur when people s rights and companies
positions are threatened in order to obtain a

Boeing is the worlds largest aerospace company. While Boeing is known mostly
known for their commercial airplanes they also manufactures defense, space and

launch systems and information and communication systems (Boeing, 2013). In this
case we are going to focus on the Dreamliner 787, and the problems that came with
the creation of it. The first Boeing 787Dreamliner was delivered to Japan s ANA in
2011, nearly 40 months after the planned delivery date. The expected delivery was
in May 2008, but the fuel efficient 787 Dreamliner s manufacturing had become
complicated due to multiple changes in the design and supply chain implemented all
at once. Far from the traditional manufacturing, Dreamliner design consists of many
new features like unique design, one piece fuselage, reduced weight, 20% increase
in fuel economy, and reduction in maintenance time. Apart from the changes in
design, another major difficulty was the company s global supply chain network.
For the first time ever Boeing outsourced two most critical parts fuselage and
wings. Everything put together, the complications kept increasing and so is the
delay. At least when the plane finally the entered the market years later design came
out as expected, and there weren t any sacrifices to the design that had to be made.
The plane can hold from 210 250 passengers on routes of 7650 8200 nautical miles

Data of different data types such as text, audio, video are present in large amounts in

retrieval of such data objects. There are various indexing techniques. The paper
presents various efficient indexing techniques multimedia database comparing and
contrasting them.

The time taken by query to retrieve the data in multimedia database is very high when
compared with normal databases that do not contain multimedia files. This is because
of the indexing structure used in databases. The regular indexing model is not exactly

This approach is dynamic and allows for efficient retrieval of data items without
any basic indexing structure as progressive query is used. However the progressive
Query gives optimal result only under progressive query condition. Even noise in the
audio or video is not considered in the database.
In the current industry, uses of digital libraries have increased rapidly leading to the
growth of multimedia data. Hence it is really difficult to access the huge amounts of
data. There is need for an efficient approach to organize the data and access the data
in really short span of time. This system [4] follows a tree structure to index the data
and access every node. The nodes are divided leaf nodes and non leaf node, leaf
node having information of its distance to the nearest neighbor, dimensional features
of the node itself. It is implemented as arrays of information, containing the address
to leaf nodes and minimum distance to the neighboring nodes similar non leaf node.
In this way the nodes are arranged and indexed, used as indexes to make searching
easy. In the approach nearest neighbor can be accessed easily. Since single indexing
is used for entire system, the same indexing can be used for both inserting and
deleting. It also works in high dimensional environment. The

Both were anti communist. They were both similar in this way because Hitler was
against communism and wanted to ensure a communist revolt wouldn t take place

their deaths were quite tragic: Hitler committed suicide and Mussolini got shot and

Conflict management are types of strategies to help people through arguments with
anyone. This has affected my life by helping me getting through arguments with my
friends, family or really anyone who I come in conflict with. The one technique,
AMPP, has helped me a lot because sometimes me and my friends argue and they do
not tell me what I did wrong, so I use that technique to help us resolve our problem.
One time I started texting my friend and she would not reply to me at first, so I
kept texting back and asking her why she wasn t answering, and she finally replied
back that I did something and she does not want to talk to me. Usually when we get
into fights, we just joke around, but this time I could tell she was serious and I did
not know why she was mad and she would not tell me why.
While I was thinking of what to say or ask her, the subject of psychology came to my
mind and I thought I could use helpful strategies to get me through this. So I
remembered AMPP; ask, mirror, paraphrase and prime. AMPP is a powerful
strategy skill that helps build up safety to encourage others to share what they are
feeling. I suddenly thought, this would be a perfect time to use this skill to see if it

paraphrasing because she had not told me any reason for why she was mad, so I
had to jump to prime, which is the last technique to use only if nothing else

in which a story is written can have a strong influence on the message the author is
trying to convey to his or her reader. Their personal reflections can be asserted in
many ways; among the most common being through the characters themselves and
their development throughout the work, the setting, and the implied themes.
An example of a work that is heavily influenced by the time period in which it was
written is F. Scott Fitzgerald s short story Babylon Revisited. Set in Paris during the
1920s, this work delineates the story of a man named Charlie Wales who was at the
pinnacle of his life when he succumbed to greed, irresponsibility, and addiction. As a
result of his carelessness, Wales experiences a tragic downfall. He not only endures
the death of his wife Helen, but he also loses his material fortune, his reputation, and
most importantly the custody of his daughter Honoria.
The time in which this story occurs the 1920s is vital to the plot. Dubbed The
Roaring 20s, this period is notorious for glamorizing lifestyles centered around
materialism, gluttony, and self absorption. The early 20th century brought about
extreme social and political changes that influenced the lifestyles and attitudes of the
public.
38. Two Major Themes In Poetic Realism
Isolation and fatalism are two major themes in this film. the main characters are
trapped and they try hard to escape the current situations. The army deserter
heading for the port of Le Havre, Jean is on the run from a society run by a
criminal underworld. His solitary figure associates with the fog in the opening
shot of the film. What he faces was fatal since he had no choices. He could only
run away; otherwise, his life would be in danger. A 17 year old abused girl, Nelly
who is trapped by her godfather, Zabel tries to run away from him. In the beginning
of the film, Jean and Nelly are used to be isolated by the society. Both are not
connected with other people. It is not surprising that they want to escape from the
current traps later... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zabel is a respectable businessman who loves religious music and the finer.
However, there is a shameful and jealous heart hides in his body that he lusts for
his goddaughter Nelly. This is a rather immoral theme shown in Quai des brumes.
Moreover, Poetic Realism films focus on working class characters and the theme
of doomed love, which is the blending of comedy and tragedy. Compared to
Naturalism, poetic realism had a more romantic, idealistic, mysterious
character.(Linda Nochlin, Realism) It shows that the characters in Poetic Realism
are usually marginal characters in the society. Jean undoubtedly represents the
marginal characters in the society. He carries a national identity, which is the army
in 1930s and represents the lower class in the society. When he meets the beautiful
girl, Nelly, these two fall in love immediately and passionately.Nelly says. They
have real happiness and the love is shared, but in this film s bleak world it is
inevitably going to be dearly bought. Therefore, their love is romantic but at the
same time, it is also a tragic. The only way Jean can be with Nelly is if he deals with
the corrupt men that are causing troubles for her. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a
tragic end for the

Steven Spielberg Filmmaking is one of the most unique, creative, and innovative
projects that someone can complete. The film industry is a true art form, and the
appreciation for the industry from the actors and actresses, to the filmmakers,
producers, and directors continues to increase. Attending a premier, or just going to
the local movie theater on a Friday night to see a movie that looks enticing from the

There is no doubt about this. But, it is the ways that make these filmmakers some
of the greatest of all time. Ford uses optimism in his films; he represents the
struggles in real life situations, like he does in ?Grapes of Wrath?, even though the
film is based off of a book. This is a way for him that he can connect to the
audience. He directed many war films, and they were authentic because he was in
the war and he saw what happened in many different areas. For Spielberg, he
believed in extraordinary circumstances, which is why he directed many movies
about dinosaurs and aliens. But, in these movies, symbolism is portrayed because it
asks if there is other life out there. This is what makes it enticing to the audience.
Both of these men are some of the greatest of all time and they are both very familiar

41. Analysis Of Concepts In The Hundred Dresss By Eleanor
Estes
We all had something when we were younger that put the spotlight on us as
children. Whether it was an unusual last name, big ears, or funny freckles there was
something that made us insecure or self conscious. I can remember being made fun
of for my last name Hartung . Kids used to ask me if my tongue was a heart and I
would begrudgingly answer saying that Hartung actually meant royalty in German,
which was a lie but it was what my parents told me to say. In The Hundred Dresses,
Eleanor Estesillustrates these concepts that still hold true today because no matter
how time goes on children will always be made fun of for ailments they cannot
help. She explains how putting others down due to things that are out of their
control, such as a funny last name like Hartung , will never make you feel better
about yourself. Eleanor Estes goes on to show how you should stand up for people
because being a bystander makes you part of the problem, something that adults and
kids alike struggle with today. Lastly, she shows how everyone is unique and
although there may be something a little different about someone that does not mean
they do not have other talents that make them special in the best way possible.
Whenever someone feels unsure of themselves their first reaction typically is to
attack those around them in an effort put themselves on a pedestal maybe this is
why Maddie never stood up for Wanda. Maddie herself was poor so it was easy to let
others make fun of Wanda because

The three behavior disorders that I will be discussing is attention deficit
/ hyperactivity disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Oppositional Defiant
Disorder. To grasp a deeper, understanding of a child behavior disorder one must
understand the motivation for such disorder whether its biological or environmental.
There are several developmental theories that have different prospective that can be
useful in understanding Autism, ADHD and ODD. For example, Pavlov, Skinner,
Watson all pioneered the Behavior Model; Skinner s behavior theory believes that
children begin to learn by imitating, then people respond to the child s
imitation(operant) by reinforcing the behavior (smiling, saying good job), punishing
the behavior (saying no, frowning),... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important for educators to understand the gender differences of autism to
effectively understand their students. For example, Autism is diagnosed more in
males than females in fact the rate is about 3/1 male to female (Bölte, 2012). The
study attempt to understand why autism diagnosed more in males than females and
found that gender differences are really understudied and at this time there is not a
clear answer, but may be something to do with a male s Y chromosome and it s a
mutation (Bölte, 2012). However, Professor Bolte research focused on Cognitive
sex differences in autism spectrum disorder by giving a sample of people with autism
cognitive tasks that measure attention to detail and executive functions (planning,
being flexible, cognitive control and self regulation) (Bölte, 2012). They normally
show a lower performance on these tasks than the general population, however they
perform better on attention to detail (Bölte, 2012). The results were compared to
their siblings without autism score Professor Bolte chose to do that because they
control, environmental, social and genetic factors when using siblings (Bölte, 2012).
The results of the study found some difference, for example, when it came to
cognitive flexibility female did better than males, however when it
45. Fire Prevention Essay
Fire prevention is a term being heard more and more today in America. It is
starting to become a standard in today s fire departments. Fire has the ability to
keep us warm and also has the ability to make us homeless. As we grow as
community and the technology changes, Fire Prevention needs to be made more of
a necessity in our homes today. More homes are being built out of lighter material
along with being built closer and closer together. Each can lead to extreme
destruction, homes being lost, people being displaced, and even death. Why should
we not protect homes and defend them against an enemy that can attack at any
minute? Fire prevention needs to start in the home and then be carried onward in our
lives. There are very... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today we have moved beyond young men in street rattling wooden noise makers,
technology has given us a new kind of fire alarm. There are 2 main kinds of fire
alarms: ionization and photoelectric. Ionization alarms sound more quickly when a
flaming, fast moving fire occurs, photoelectric alarms are quicker at sensing
smoldering, smoky fires. There are also combination smoke alarms that combine
ionization and photoelectric into one unit, called dual sensor smoke alarms. Most of
the fire alarms are powered by batteries which in order for the alarm to work, need to
changed regularly. They provide early detection, and thus warning, of the fire. But
they take no action on the fire itself.
Wet stuff on the Red stuff Something that was introduced in commercial buildings

in a fire and the average property loss by one half to two thirds compared to where
sprinklers are not present. The same website notes that if both fire alarms and fire

46. Elderly Driving Test
SHOULD ELDERS HAVE TO TAKE A DRIVING TEST EVERY YEAR?
Elders are great people, but their driving skill may not be too great. Elders should
take a driving test every year, for one reason there would be a decrease in car
accidents. Many people have been killed by the lack of the elderly peoples driving
skills, also because elders should be reminded how to drive because of their fragile
health.
One reason elderly people should have to take a driving test every year is because
there will be a decrease in car accidents, also because there will be less elder related
car accidents. And the elders will be able to learn how to stop elder related car
accidents. Also people will be able to stop elder related car accidents before they even
occur. And fifty eight percent of car accidents are caused by accidents on the road,
and elders taking a driving test every year will help that percentage. Family of elders
want their family to stay safe and will encourage them to learn how to drive better.
And families of elders can help by encouraging people to make a law saying elders
should be required to take a driving test every year. ... Show more content on

One reason people have been accidently killed by elderly people is because elders
get easily distracted by what other drivers are doing. Another reason people have
been killed or injured by elders is that a pedestrian will cross and to think fast the
elder will mistake the gas for the brake. And some elderly people will get too
caught up on what other drivers are doing and pay less attention to what they are
doing. People have also been killed by the elderly because many elders have not
taken a driving test in many years and should be reminded how to drive. Lastly,
driving expectations may have changed from when they have learned how to

Conquering the Freshman Fear of Failure, by David L. Kirp, main idea id that every

fear of failing hits poor, minority, and first generation college students especially
hard. (pg.1 p.3) I am the first person in my family to go to collegein my family, and I

The idea of succeeding means so much to me that I would become devastated if I

oblems which continues in future. In addition to poverty, low education, social
exclusion are also major determents of mental health issues. Applying these findings
to Juana s case, it can be seen why she was felt alone and stressed. Growing up in
violent environment and not feeling safe, affected her mental healthso adversely that
she continued feeling like that in some situations. For example, during labor she
thought she might die. This concept of not feeling safe and idea of death hovering
over her head could be related to her early experiences.
Sociocultural Component
Given Juana s background history, it is most likely that she faced some form of
discrimination along with violence. According to Bandura s theory of self efficacy,
people are partly the products of their environment (Bandura, 2000, pg. 75). Taking
this theory into consideration, it can be seen that Julia s current behavior and
situation were also a product of her environment in which she was raised along with
her current living condition. Her early experiences were also influencing her present
life. The cycle of not having much social contact during childhood continued even
when she moved to the U.S. When her husband was deployed, she stated that she had
not social support which further caused more stress. Since she was not allowed to go
out of her house during childhood and had minimum social contact, which maybe
later continued affecting her social life when she moved to the US.

49. Brian Fagan The Great Warming Summary
The Great Warming is a book written by Brian Fagan that encompasses the
environment and history pertaining to most of the human race between A.D. 800 and
1300. Not only does the book give a new dimension to world history by looking at
climate history, but it also provides the reader with an ominous warning of the impact
that climate changemay have on the human race in the future. Fagan references many
civilizations in the book that were affected by the rise in surface temperatures. He
goes in depth with them individually to show just how worldwide this climate change
was, how each civilization adapted or failed to adapt, and who the winners and losers
were during this medieval warming period. Fagan s argument and analysis in The
Great Warming can be simplified by saying climate changes have had an enormous
effect on the human race throughout history. Furthermore, he shows that an increase
in surface temperatures can affect different parts of the world in a variety of ways.
Some areas experience torrential and devastating rainfall where other regions are
simultaneously victim to severe droughts. Fagan makes this argument by providing
historical data of the earth through coral samples, deep sea cores, satellite technology,
and tree rings. He then takes this data and attributes the findings to why particular
civilizations flourished or vanished throughout history. An example of this is the
Pueblo Bonito, Visitors from miles around flocked to this, perhaps the greatest of
50. Bmw, A Brand Image Of Luxury And Performance
BRAND INVENTORY
According to Interbrand, BMW is the 11th best global brand of 2015, with a brand
value estimated at $37,212 million. Its success can be credit to the high quality of
products and service, innovative engineering technology, and a well constructed
marketing strategy that built a brand image of luxury and performance.
Brand Elements
BMW, abbreviation of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (Bavarian Motor Works, in
English), is a simple but distinctive brand name. The company s name is meaningful
and reinforces an important attribute of its products: the high quality engine. The
shortened form makes the brand name easier to recall.
The brand logo, known as Roundel, combines a symbol with the company s name.
The blue and white represent the colors of Bavarian flag. The round shape and
arrangement of the letters were inspired by the Rapp logo, the aircraft engine
manufacturer that preceded BMW. Thus, the distinctive logo symbolizes the heritage
behind the brand. It has been updated along the years (1917, 1933, 1953, 1979, and
2000) and the most recent adaption brought a modern aspect to the logo.
BMW has a memorable and recognizable slogan in the United States: The Ultimate
Driving Machine , which captures the features of luxury and performance in only
one product. The 40 years old trademarked slogan is simple, descriptive and
represents its positioning. The worldwide BMW slogan Sheer Driving Pleasure
indicates the good experience consumers have when are driving
51. Jennifer Heap Research Paper
She s not your traditional author by any means, but her work could be be
considered poetry. A solo artist known for the group Frou Frou and her song Hide
and Seek , meet my favorite author, Imogen Jennifer Heap. Born December 9, 1977
in Essex, Imogen Heap for the most part is self taught and is a huge success.
Imogen defied the unwritten rule of solo acts by instead of making a name for
herself in a group then leaving to do their own thing, Imogen did the opposite. She
was born in the rural part of Essex to a businessman and a future art therapist. 12
years after Imogen was born, her parents divorced. At the young age of 13, Heap
could already play piano, cello, and clarinet. She attended the Quaker Friends
School and there she self taught herself how to produce music on Atari computers
after she could not get along with her music teacher. At 16, she wanted to produce
orchestral music. As part of her studies, she recorded pop demos that caught the
attention of managers that believed she should go into the studio. In 1996, Heap
began working with an experimental pop band called Acacia. She was never a real
member of the band, just a guest vocalist. One of the band members would play an

Butler...
The Tower is a collection of twenty one poems published in 1928 by William Butler
Yeats s. Recognised as one of the poet s most renowned publications, the collection
secured the poets reputation as a major poet who addressed in rather dramatic terms
a considerable amount of central experiences of the twentieth century. His work
reflects a profound consciousness that he was living through a period of evident
universal change.i Events in the poet s personal life as well as the public realm play
a crucial role in The Tower. Within the collection, Yeats s portrays the eminent
distinction between experiential events as well as ideas of nation and community.

The poem recalls the speakers recognition with the fool who believes that life can
be winded backwards as well as forwards. The poet brilliantly mediates between
experiential and universal within the work, evident once again through his choice
of words. In the early lines of the poem, the poet refers to the fool. By the end of
the poem, it is evident that the poet refers to himself when he uses the pronoun I in
stating that he thinks that he may find a faithful love. His ability to appeal to the
wider community can also be seen in the poem All Souls Night. While the poet
conveys a rather personal recollection in this work, the universal appeal is evident in
its questioning of life after death. Within All Souls Night, the poet expresses his own
beliefs about Dublin. He celebrates alone, but finally finds a place for the dead in his
universe, thereby solving to some extent, the problem of whether there is in fact life
after death. While it deals with themes that are universal, there is also a haunted sense
that the speaker knows something that the reader

Mind...
Damien Hirst s The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone
Living is a sculpture of a shark entombed in a rectangular steel vitrine. The vitrine
is designed so that it looks like it is divided into three cubes. The steel that splits up
the vitrine into these cubes is painted white. Inside the vitrine, the shark is entirely
frozen in what looks like clear, blue water. It is positioned so that it is in the center
of the tank. From a side view, the shark s head pops out of the first cube, its body is
in the middle cube, and its tale pops out of the third cube. The shark has its mouth
wide open, showing off its sharp teeth. It looks like it was about to attack someone
or something just before it was frozen in place. From a front view, the insides of the
shark can be seen.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Coming close this shark, which looks like it is about to attack whoever is standing
in front of it, is the closest we will get to experiencing death and coming out alive.
The shark evokes unease and fear in its viewers. The open mouth of the shark
brings fright to its observer. If a person was in an ocean with this shark and it was
not frozen in place, then he or she would most likely not make it out of that ocean
alive. Avoiding death in that situation would be The Physical Impossibility of Death ,
as stated in the title. Hence, this artwork, allows a living person to imagine an
unrealistic situation where they can avoid
