Strengths And Weaknesses Of Directors Compensation
It is not true that shareholders control over directors pay is largely ineffective and
demonstrates a significant weakness in UK corporate governance.
Executive compensation refers to the financial compensation, as well as other non
financial awards received by an executive from their firm as a result of their service
to the organization. It mostly refers to a combination of salary, bonuses, shares of or
call options on the company stock, benefits, and privileges, usually constructed to
take into account government regulations, tax law, the desires of the organization
and the executive, and rewards for performance. Executive pay plays a fairly crucial
part of corporate governance, and is often under the control of the company s board
of directors.

Not only that, it should also compare well with the differences in share values and
also encourage managers to invest in all pending projects with a positive net present
value and also, refuse all the negative proposals. Furthermore, what every company
requires is a rewarding system that undoubtedly, accurately, predictably and
unceasingly rewards these managers for creating shareholder wealth but also
penalizes them if they destroy it.
While disadvantages do exist in giving shareholder s the power in controlling the
compensation packages of directors, it essentialy does not result in ineffectiveness
or demonstrate any fom of severe weakness in the UK s corporate governance. In
fact, it is the opposite. The advantages that arise from this scheme have shown that it
has worked for the better and thus, proving its effectiveness. Moreover, it has also
proved to a stronger pillar of strength to all the perceived weaknesses if this scheme
was unavailable and shareholders did not have control of the compensation
Emerson s Siddhartha
I believe in we should seek our good lives by ourselves. Envy is ignorance,
imitation is suicide. This is an idiom said by Emerson. I think he is right because I
have never seen people have a same path to success. However, successful people
have similar values, they are patient, discipline and passionate. Siddhartha is the
person I lovethe most in all the readings. He was brave since he could give up his
wealthy life, following the ascetic to the trip of enlightenment. He was discipline
because he did not fell in the temptation when he was rich, and having a happy life
with his lover. I think the most important value for Siddhartha is independent. He is

Disrespects Of Protesting In Democracy
Although Protesting is usually defined as a childish, or disrespectful act a better
definition would be to say it is a vital part to a democracy. A thin line is drawn
between the two definitions. People will tend to say protesting is disrespectful
because you are rebelling against those who provide and protect you . Others will
say it is the wrongful act of being childish because you are fighting someone of an
authority figure because you are not getting something you want. While people
actually protest to receive something that them or those around them need. However
these two definitions are inaccurate because protesting plays a vital part in a
democracy. This is true because protesting has made America the amazing country it
is today because of rebellious protesting. One prime example of this is the War of
Independence more commonly known as the American Revolution. Another example
of how protesting plays a crucial part in a democracy was the Boston Tea Party. In the
past a protest were different. They were typically more frowned upon by the general
population. One example of a protest that was frowned upon by most citizens was the
women s rights movement. This protest was frowned upon because men and even
some women were uncomfortable with this change. Another protest was the civil
rights movements for African Americans. In the past this was looked down by most
American citizens because people did not want others to be equal mostly because the

Heart Failure By Cambria Diehl
Heart Failure

California State University, Chico
Heart failure, HF, is a result of one s heart inefficiently pumping blood out to the
body (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, 2014, p.766). A healthy heart will
pump blood out of the left and right ventricles rhythmically and simultaneously,
creating an even flow of blood from the heart to the pulmonary arteries and the aorta
(Lewis et al., 2014, p.769). Someone with heart failure has a ventricular dysfunction
in either one or both ventricles; the ventricles are not filling or contracting properly.
The failure of one ventricle to properly function leads to an overcompensation of the
opposite ventricle as well as a disruption in normal blood flow that leads ... Show

The right side of heart will increase in size as the muscle builds up and the heart
rate will increase due to compensation for the left ventricle. With auscultation, the
lungs will sound crackly from the liquid in the alveoli and interstitial space and
when assessing respiration rate it is likely to be above thirty breaths per minute
(Lewis et al., 2014). The patient may report that they are experiencing dyspnea,
nocturia, fatigue, and a productive coughing. They may appear anxious and their
skin may look pale (Lewis et al., 2014). On the other hand, if the right side of the
heart fails, then it will cause a portion of the blood from the ventricle to flow
backward creating problems in venous circulation. Blood pressure in the veins will
cause edema in multiple areas of the body. Peripheral edema may be visible in the
lower extremities of the patient as they will appear swollen in this area, like the
abdominal region (Lewis et al., 2014). The swelling of the spleen and the liver
may not be visible but it can be present depending on the progress of HF. The
jugular vein will look bulging from pressure built up called jugular venous
distention (Lewis et al., 2014). The heart will have a murmur and tachycardia may
be present. A few other signs of heart failure are liver failure and weight gain
associated with kidney failure (Lewis et al.,

All people hold in them an awareness of death, but prisoners on death row have a
heightened sense of their own mortality. Knowing death is within the near future
pushes a mind to wander to insanity. Not being able to go about actions or express
thoughts to loved ones in the last moments of life is the leading factor flooding the
mind. Through analyzing the deathpenalty s impact in Memories of a Dead Man
walking , Sister Helen Prejean emphasizes human s fear of death motivates a need to
seek forgiveness and life s purpose.

To have a firm moral bedrock for our societies we must establish that no one is
permitted to kill and that includes governments (Prejean). This is a solid argument
because the government has had the power from the time this nation was created,
but why does that give them the authority to kill? People just go by the rules of
society because that is how it has been from the beginning of time. No one person
living on this earth should be able to decide if another person is put to death. With
that being said the other side has a good argument that these men have done such
horrible acts they do not deserve to live and are a threat to the world. I do not
condone their terrible crimes (prejean). They have not only killed the person, but
hurt the loved ones of that the victim. They have ruined the lives of the people who
loved the victim. These criminals may figure out forgiveness is possible and life is
full of hope when it is too late.
Humans on death row die a thousand times before their actual death. With death
near, Sister Helen Prejean s presence is crucial to Patrick and others. There are a
mass amount of moral issues involved with the death penalty. Death drives humans to
see life in a different way and gives them the opportunity to reach out to God and
achieve comfort in
Inflation And Its Effect On The Economy
Introduction
Inflation is another aspect of macroeconomic instability and is a rise in the general
level of prices in an economy. When inflation occurs, each dollar of income will
buy fewer goods and services than before and reduces the purchasing power of
money. **Inflation does not mean that all prices are rising and during periods of
rapid inflation, some prices may be relatively constant while others may fall. Almost
all prices are set by supply and demand, and if the economy experiences inflation, the
overall levels of prices rise. Measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), two types
are demand pull and cost push, and affects the nominal and real interest rates,
unanticipated and anticipated inflation, nominal and real interest rates, and
hyperinflation.
**According to Investopedia, Finally, inflation is a sign that an economy is
growing. In some situations, little inflation can be just as bad as high inflation. The
lack of inflation may be an indication that the economy is weakening. As you can
see, it s not so easy to label inflation as either good or bad it depends on the overall
economy as well as your personal situation. (Investopedia).
The historical event known as the Great Recession lasted from December 2007 until
June 2009, and the extent of the economic damage significantly affected the labor
market and the living standards of low and moderate income Americans. The United
States has avoided another recession due to accommodate federal fiscal
Close Memory
Take your Memory out of the Closet As some important exams approach, most of
us will be looking forward to have better memory. If we can read all assignments in

However, scanning like a machine is impossible so we consider how to improve our
process, which memorize something in a short time. In this passage, it gives us much
information of memoryin order to let us find some useful learning ways. At first, we
need to know what is memory. When we study at school, most of the teachers will
demonstrate memory as computer. They always ask us not to memorize all of the
things instead of understanding the knowledge because memory is kind of space. If

Juxtaposition In A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings
What would you do if you found a man with wings in your yard? Would you put
him in your chicken coop with your chicken, or actually treat him like a person?
Magical realism occurs many times throughout A Very Old Man with Enormous
Wings. The short story is about a poor family who find an old sickly man with
enormous wings in their backyard after a three day storm happened. Not knowing
what to do with him, because he didn t speak their language, they put him in their
chicken coop. Juxtaposition, incorporation of myth and social critique occurs
throughout this story. Juxtaposition places two things side by side to compare,
contrast or to create a interesting effect. One example of juxtaposition was a old
man having enormous wings. He was a weak old looking man which made the fact
that he had enormous wings contrast. ...it was an old man, a very old man, lying
face down in the mud, who, in spite of his tremendous efforts, couldn t get up,
impeded by his enormous wings (p1). This contrasted because you would expect
someone with enormous wings to be strong and well. Another example of
juxtaposition is that the old man is very dirty, his wings were plucked and he was
in very bad shape. His huge buzzard wings, dirty and half plucked, were forever
entangled in the mud. This contrasts because he was a angel, and... Show more

In Christian mythology they talk about angels and devils. In the story the people
who find the man think he is an angel at first, but then the priest says he may have
been sent to them by the devil. He reminded them that the devil had the bad habit of
making use of carnival tricks in order to confuse the unwary (p2). In the story it

Hybrid Automobiles vs. Fuel-efficient Automobiles
Whether for ecological or economic reasons, consumers are feeling a pressing
need to purchase a fuel efficient automobile. However, the array of choices on the
market are staggering. Not only do consumers have the choice between different
brands of automobile manufactures; manufacturers are also offering different
types of fuel efficient cars. Some fuel efficient cars use traditional internal
combustion engines alone; others offer the option to use alternative fuel sources
like diesel and biodiesel; and others yet offer the opportunity to drive a car with an
electric or a hybrid engine. The decision of which fuel efficient car to purchase
depends on several lifestyle factors. Price sensitivity and prestige are issues to be
considered when making the choice between fuel efficient or hybrid car. Concern
for the environment and for reducing dependence on fossil fuel might be an
impetus for choosing hybrid over a fuel efficient traditional car. Moreover, driving
and usage patterns are among the most salient issues impacting the choice between
a standard fuel efficient car versus a hybrid electric car. Generally, standard fuel
efficient automobiles are better for drivers who are price sensitive and who drive
longer distances less often, whereas hybrid electric automobiles will be more
attractive to drivers who commute relatively short distances to work every day. Price,
politics, and driving patterns are the most important points of reference when
comparing a hybrid with a
Essay about Old Money vs. New Money
Old Money vs. New Money
In regards to wealth, two classifications have been established. The first class is
referred to as old money and is made up of families that have acquired wealth over
many generations, such as the Rockefellers, the Carnegies, and the Vanderbilts. On
the other side of the wealth spectrum are individuals and families that have acquired
money within the last few decades. This type of wealth includes Bill Gates, the
Hiltons, and Oprah and it is often referred to as new money.
While in the eyes of society money is money, the status and respect that comes with
it is entirely different, depending on how the wealth is classified. The idea of old
money is one that stems back to medieval times. It is ... Show more content on

The differences between these two classifications often lead to disrespect, on both
sides. Those that are lumped into the world of old money often feel that they
deserve a level of respect and acknowledgement. Their money has been gained
through hard work and sacrifices by generations of family members, and due to that
fact, respect is in order.
The feelings regarding respect and dignity towards old money is clearly visible in a
poem written by Ben Jonson titled To Penshurst. The poem was written as praise to a
wealthy landowner in England and shows the grandeur that accompanies this kind of
wealth.
Throughout the poem the author addresses the entire estate, which was owned by Sir
Philip Sidney. It refers to how great the estate is and the joy that accompanies living
there. The abundance of wealth acquired by the Sidney family has allowed them to
provide a haven for all those associated with them. This is very obvious in lines sixty
three and sixty four,
Where the same beer and bread, and selfsame wine,
This is his lordship s shall be also mine (63 64)
This poem was written through the eyes of a servant of the Sidney family and
therefore shows the faithfulness and loyalty towards them. It also shows the
willingness of the Sidney s to share their wealth with friends, servants, neighbors, and
even the king,
That found King James when, hunting late this way

This is because for the muscles to continue to exert high amounts of energy they need
to have constant oxygenated blood going to them so breathing becomes faster so the
oxygen can get to the blood and the heart beats faster so that the oxygenated blood
can reach the muscles quicker.
The reason your heart takes longer to get back to its resting rate after longer lengths
of exercise is because your heart is already at a relatively high rate so it will take a
while to get back to resting rate (just like it will take a hot cup of water longer to
freeze, than it will take a cold cup of water to freeze.) Added on to that muscles
produce wastes so after a long amount of exercise the heart needs to keep beating
slightly fast to get rid of the wastes that were produced by the muscles after the
exercise.
Improvement/Recommendations:
An improvement to the experiment could be doing the trials for a longer amount of
time until it reached the resting heart rate, using a heart rate monitor or manual pulse
reading for the whole experiment instead of alternating between

Direct quotations must equal the original source exactly, word for word. The source
of the quotation must be cited. The organization of direct quotations may vary with
the placement of the quoted material in the sentence. The author s last name, the year
of publication, the website title or section title, and the paragraph number, when no
page number is available, are included in the citation. Quotations that contain fewer
than forty words are enclosed in double quotation marks within the text. Use single
quotation marks for quotations contained within a direct quotation. Use double
quotation marks to indicate a quotation within the block quotation. Paraphrasing

It is easy for humans to prefer order rather than justice because society covers the
ability to see actual truths and purpose. Martin Luther King s Letter from
Birmingham City Jail explains how ones desire for order is truly contrary to the
teachings of Jesus, ...who is more devoted to order than to justice; who prefers a
negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the
presence of justice (King 4). In order to live the paschal mystery humans must
have the desire to have a positive peace or known as justice. Justice is the ability
for a group of people to be able to recognize the problems in the world, and then be
able to act on it. Brackley explains the importance of being able to recognize the
need for justice, ...the centrality of justice not only reflects new insight into the
faith; it also reflects a waking up to the world around us (Brackley 2). Justice is
being able to reflect and acknowledge the problems on what is going on in the
world constantly. In order to truly act with justice, humans must be able to give up
their own personal desires and recognize the need of justice in today s world. In
Pope John Paul II s On Social Concern, he states, The goal of peace, so desired by
everyone, will certainly be achieved through the putting into effect of social and
international justice, but also through the practice of the virtues which favor
togetherness (Paul II 4). The only way to achieve justice is for a group of
individuals to unite under God, and to work together for a common purpose to help

the Civil War. He sees life and death as a cycle, and examines life after the life of an
individual. The basic meanings of Whitman s poems are very relevant to what he
was facing at the time. As a nurse in the Civil War, he saw many young, dedicated
people die for what they believed in. He respected these soldiers, and felt that their
deaths should have meaning. Whitman s poems relate to his ideas that a democracy
is built from individuals, and that each individual has a purpose. Although death is an
inevitable, Whitman sees all lives as immortal. The legacy people leave behind when
they die is something that the poet respected... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In When the Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom d, Whitman says, Here, coffin that
slowly passes, I give you my sprig of lilac. The lilac in this quote represents hope,
life, and rebirth; much like spring, when they bloom. The quote shows the author
vows to remember and honor the fallen as individuals, much like blades of grass or
a flower. In the poem A Child Said What is the Grass, Whitman uses the green grass
as a symbol of multiplicity, using the rapid growth and reproduction of grass as a
sign that many new lives have sprouted from those who have died, and that regrowth
after death is possible. In both of these poems, Walt Whitmanuses the seasons to
remember his fallen friends; mourning their lives as new buds of spring appear. The
fall and winter seasons are used as a representation of what the Civil War was like,
with the absence of life in that time. The springtime is where repopulation begins to
occur, and life returns to the

Janie at a young age knew nothing of love, but as she grew up love took hold of her.
Janie searched for love to the point of looking for it blindfolded. After the first two

Seattle Freeze
When I first came to Seattle University, I was in awe of the bright lights of the city.
Whether it was the nightlife, the beautiful parks, or the abundance of museums
Seattle seemed like the ideal place to live my young adult life. However, after the
newness of everything faded away, I noticed that the friendships I made faded
away too. I soon felt like I was bothering those who I tried to make plans with and
let s have coffee sometime was another way of saying let s never talk again. By the
time winter quarter came around, I felt like everyone formed a friendship clique
and I somehow was left without a group. While doing further research I discovered
that I was not alone in this feeling. In fact, there were several articles about it,
calling it the Seattle Freeze. Everywhere from Crosscut to Q13 Fox to The Seattle

But does the Seattle Freeze actually exist or is it just the sign of the digital age and
the reality of living in a big, rainy city? I want to try to find answers to these
questions and analyze why the social trends happen, what Seattleites opinions are of
this phenomenon and if there are solutions to advocate for a more friendly social
structure. Goals I want to establish that the Seattle Freeze culture exists, and give
evidence of why it is harmful to the Seattle community. From there, I want to
analyze why it exists, and highlight some ways in which those affected by it can
help stop the social pattern. My piece will be 20 minutes long and will begin with a
short introduction to the topic, then I will delve in with my personal experience
living in Seattle. I will then transition into wondering what others think of the subject
and will include interviews that showcase different perspectives. I will then touch on
the history of the Seattle Freeze and what other newspapers and videos have said
about it. I plan to highlight both the positive and negatives of the
Carthage In Greek And Roman Empires
In ancient history when empires were emerging, it seemed like if a nation wanted to
become the world s superpower, they would have to have knowledge of who else
was rivalling their strength. Rome had done a good job conquering and colonizing
areas that are now known as southern Italy but began to want power outside the
country (Morey, 1901). Carthage, which is modern day Tunisia, also started amassing
power and expanding and was considered the prominent force on the western
Mediterranean (Carthage, n.d.). Carthage and Rome were seen as nearly equal forces
but their strengths were very different from one another (Morey, 1901). It was the
power struggle between these two nations that led to the development of Rome s navy.

My Philosophy Of Education Philosophy
Education Philosophy My philosophy is that teaching is building lifelong habits
so students have the skills, knowledge, and motivation to be successful learners.
My role as a teacher is to engage students interest in learning, to create a supportive
learning environment, and to provide resources for all students in my classroom.
My relationship with students is one of encouragement, structure and patience. I
encourage all students to be actively involved in their learning and I use a variety
of methods to encourage discussion and interaction. Some methods I frequently
use in my teaching are questioning techniques, gradual release of responsibility (I
do, we do, you do), educational protocols like pair share, and incorporating the use
of technology with students. In creating lesson plans, I consider students
developmental needs and learning styles. As a teacher, I create a responsible
classroom that has respect, cooperation, and the belief that each student can be a
successful learner. I believe respect is earned as a teacher by being fair, firm, and
friendly and I play a key role in modeling how to be respectful to others in the
classroom. Respect is demonstrated daily through student classroom interactions like
being helpful to others and listening to others. I also believe it is important to not
take things personally as a teacher because students are still trying to learn both
academically and behaviorally and being calm is important to developing a positive

Everest Is A Simulation Game Created By A Collaboration...
1.Executive Summary Everest, is a simulation game created by a collaboration
between Forio Business Simulations and Harvard Business School, in which the
objective is to virtually climb to the top of the world, Mount Everest. The gruelling
virtual climb is meant to reflect real life problems of climbing a mountain, such as
oxygen scarcity, volatile health conditions, and unpredictable weather. One of the
main features of the climb however is the students who are thrown randomly in
groups of 5 7, and are expected to collaborate and ultimately climb to the summit.
The intuitive design of the simulation gives each team member a wide variety of
information, distinct goals, and one role. The information is intentionally restricted
towards certain individuals due to their roles. The goals are aligned with the roles of
group member, the team leader s goal is to get everyone to the top of summit. There
was two attempts in climbing the mountain. The first approach involved an autocratic
leadershipstyle, combined with limited communication, and group conformity ended
in unsatisfactory results. The second time, with lessons learned from the first attempt,
was overall better, as tasks was delegated, combined with shared decision making and
improved communication, showed a significant improvement in performance.
Although, Everest is an oversimplification of various organisational models, the
experiences received for the team, as well as myself were tremendous. This

Difference Between Internal And External Crowdsourcing
According to several scholars (including Villarroel and Reis, 2010; Boudreau and
Lakhani, 2013; Carlson and Wilmot, 2006; Chesbrough, 2006a, 2006b; Byren, 2013;
Yap, 2012; Howe, 2006, 2009; Brabham, 2008b, 2009, 2013), the main difference
between internal and external crowdsourcing can be summarized as follows: i) the
internal crowd(employees) is known to the firm; ii) the crowd can be all employees
of the firm, a subsidiary of the firm, or may also include partners and suppliers; iii)
the crowd is specifically used for problem solving or aggregating ideas for innovation
purposes; and iv) the crowd may also be anyone with internet or mobile remote
access capable of participating in a crowdsourcingcontest and vote on the ideas of
others.
Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media
acceptance is high (Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don t
measure up to the external crowd (Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing
forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack the capabilities and fall short
to the external crowd s full capacity. Boudreau and Lakhani (2013) believes
employees are discouraged from seeking challenges; Yap (2012) says that internal
crowdsourcing unveil innovations from employees which otherwise would not be
captured. Carlson and Wilmot (2006) emphasizes that every employee does in fact
has the ability to innovate, and must do so for their company to stay competitive.

For an exemplary leader, what is one of the highest compliments that you could ever
receive? Sir Ernest Shackleton was a British explorer who after failing to reach the
Southern Pole first wanted to be the first to ever accomplish a trans Antarctic
expedition. On October 27th, 1915 Shackleton s boat the Endurance was crushed by
the pressure of the melting Antarctic ice; leaving Shackleton and his crew stranded in
the Antarctic. On August 30th, 1916 after a treacherous one and a half years of
living in the Antarctic and surrounding islands, Shackleton and his crew were rescued
following an unimaginable story of survival. The qualities of leadership Shackleton

By putting the needs of the crew ahead of his own, Shackleton acquired a level of
respect and trust not convivial by an egocentric leader. To be an obsessive person,
one must have a certain subject constantly on one s mind or routines must be
followed correctly and/or on time. The benefit for the Endurance s crew to have
an obsessive man as Shackleton was that he was ready for the unexpected, and his
crew s safety was the utmost important topic for him. With Shackleton s obsessive
nature, he made a very specific routine for the men to follow; at exactly 9:00 am,
breakfast was served, at 1:00 pm, lunch was served, at 4:00 pm, tea was served,
and at 6:00 pm, dinner was served. Between the meals, the men did chores such as,
cleaning the ship and melting ice for drinking water. Such a precise and stringent
following of a routine gave the men purpose and managed to keep the men from
going stir crazy. The crew s safety was on Shackleton s mind from the moment
everyone abandoned the Endurance. Shackleton stopped all unnecessary activities
that posed a risk to crew safety; for example, he stopped Macklin and Greenstreet
from paddling on an ice floe like children on a raft. Shackleton also commenced
unpredicted safety drills for cracking of their ice floe which could happen at any
moment. Shackleton often didn t sleep due to the fact that he worried about all the

Rape Fantasies By Margaret Atwood Analysis
Utilizing Involvements: Manipulation of Human Deterioration During the short story
presented by Mary Gaitskill and her famous work, The Other Place (2011), there in
the text, is provided displacement of what is a defection from normalization. The
narrator presents himself as the bud to which spawned his son, Douglas, as Douglas
demonstrates a similar affection for the destruction of human persistence to survive.
In disturbance of collective headway, Margaret Atwoods RapeFantasies (1977),
expresses a group of individuals whom talk about a magazine and turns it into a
conversational masterpiece through discussion of tolerable rape. Beings residing
within society who take at their own preference to go to undesirable conditions to
meet undesirable shadows of morally baseless beings. In such aspects, these stories
offer a defection from their family and friends through enjoyment of viewing
individual demise and through request to be deprived. Therefore, it is in these
shortcomings that resolve is compiled through carefully constructed analysis of the
situation for abandonment of morality; providing guidelines for conduct in municipal
activities with removal of self endangerment at the basis of discussion.
The problem lies within the mist of miscommunication from other resources. The
inaction of these events, whether it be wanted rape or entertaining harm with action
are the foundation to a more formidable conclusion. Recognition of these occurring
events such as a conversation with lead in typical avenues of expression provides
stagnation of potential solutions to a reoccurring or present problem. Through the
usage of intellectual discussion among other counterparts, there can be an
elimination of the habitual inactivity of assorted thinking. Moreover, ignorance in
the debate of reason primes individuals to go on their own volition to seek out these
events such as the perfect rape as impulse obscures the repercussions and allows for
completion of such task in mind. Rogue sources of media collude in a larger aspect,
to fleeting expressions of enjoyment that initiate these wandering minds to falsified
reasoning. It is, in our part of society, not to restrict the inbound media and creative

Norse Mythology was finally published in the beginning this month. Neil Gaiman

American Gods (2001) has a lot of references to Norse Gods, so much that some
people consider Norse Mythology as a prequel to American Gods. In the introduction
to the book, Gaiman mourns the big
Community Service At Northview Church
Community Service is not strange to me because I have been doing community
service at Northview Church since the beginning of my sophomore year in high
school. When I saw the assignment that I have to complete 4 hours of community
services, I knew that Northview church was my first choice. Northview church
was found by Tommy Paino in October 1980. There were only 30 people in the
cafeteria of Carmel Elementary School where they formed the church which later
become Northview Church. Three years later, in the month of July, 1983. 285
people attended the last service at Carmel Elementary School, then they moved to
the church s new place which is located at 131st and Gray Road. In the late 1985,
the church bought an 81 acre of land located at the highest point in Hamilton County
on the southwest west corner of Main Street in the city of Carmel. This is the place
the church is currently located at ( Northview Church History ). Throughout my
service, I learned that the church s mission is to connect people with God and
connect people with people. They value relationships, spiritual growth, and the ability
to reach out to those who are far from God.
During my four hours of community service, I did many things such as mowing grass,
throw wastes into the dumpster by driving a tractor, and clean the sidewalk by using
a wind blower. To other people, it may seem like that there are just light duty work,
but to me every work done will make the community look better no matter how light

The Negative Effects Of Brainwashing
Summary: Brainwashing is an indoctrination that forces people to abandon their
beliefs in favor of another set of beliefs. Usually associated with the military such as
secretive ways and boot camp, political interrogation such as CIA and KGB, religion
conversion such as Jones Town Massacre , and brainwashing attempts. Also, it is
done by prolonged stress, to break down individuals physical and mental defenses.
Therefore, brainwashing took and it still takes a huge part of our lives. Human beings

The religion movements were referred to as cults . Usually, those movements affect
the people who are desperate in life and have no God, religion, and who are
confused about their own identity. The leader that contributes to the lives of those
people will let them feel that they are hooked to God by him and that everything he
says is 100% true and that it is from God. By this, the people believe that he passes
the messages of faith from God but instead, he s passing his own religious ideas that
may lead to wars, the killing of people, and vicious crimes. Jonestown Massacre is
one of the worst examples in history for brainwashing for the religious conversions.
People in Jonestown drank Kool Aid and died, but they thought that they made

thought that the CIA was responsible for what happened that day. Moreover, the
Soviet Union blamed the American CIA for what happened and they had documents

that increased among the American people. Considering that the communists were

Descriptive Essay On Hippie Fishing
Crappie fishing; to most, bring visions of cool spring mornings with fog lingering
over the surface of the lake and burning off shortly after rigging a bobber and a
minnow to cast to a brush pile and wait for the Crappie to find your bait. Classic
Crappie fishing to be sure and very effective to say the least, as many of you, like
myself, grew up fishing this way almost exclusively. Crappie anglinghas changed and
progressed into a very technical endeavor and crankbaits is one of those
techniques that works great when crappie begin the fall migration to shallow
water following the shad. When the leaves begin to turn each season, shad begin
swimming the shorelines in large schools providing slab crappie some
opportunities to fatten up for the winter. It is during this time that small crankbaits
resembling these shad work great at luring those slabs from shallow cover. Rip rap
and chunk rock banks attract shad as well as big crappie chasing those shad. A
single tree along that rock bank can create an ambush point for big crappie and
will replenish so returning to that cover throughout the day can prove rewarding.
My favorite crankbait is any that resembles a shad. Smaller crankbaits seem to
work best but I have switched to a larger crankbait with good results when the shad
is big; however, small crankbaits is your best choice for consistent bites. Color
always comes up in conversations pertaining to crappie. Personally, I use shad colors,
but crawfish patterns and bright
The Mower s Song
Andrew Marvell s The Mower s Song exposes the envious and jealous side of
human nature and seems to echo the saying, misery loves company. The poem is
set in a lush meadow, and takes the reader through the emotional stages of the
lovelorn mower of the meadow. The mower has a blossoming new affection for
Juliana. The mower sees a likeness between his blossoming affection and the
blossoming of the fresh meadow, and is comparing his relationship with Juliana to
the meadow. The speaker begins by telling the reader that his mind was once a
reflection of the beautiful meadow he cares for. In the beginning, the meadow is
green and full of hope, just as the mower has hopes of a love affair with Juliana.
Then in the second stanza, the mower is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

unknown. Marvell spent years as a member of parliament for Kingston upon Hull
for twenty years. (google scholar) Perhaps the poems were a means of escape for
Marvell, an artistic retreat to vibrant meadows, providing Marvell a break from the
mundane life of a Parliament politician. Marvell seems to have led a relatively
private personal life. In his article Detached Commitment Paul Deen writes that
Marvell seems more interested with the potential for love than its realization, no
doubt because no commitment is involved at this stage. This recurring theme could
be a reflection of Marvell himself, maybe Marvell was a bit detached, which would
explain the absence of an active personal life. (detached commitment) Another
speculated theory for the theme of the poem is the comparison of the mower and
Orpheus, in George Klawitter s essay, Marvell s Damon The Mower as Orpheus.
Though Orpheus journeys to the underworld and defeats Hades his wife still vanishes

Health Care Compliance Case Study
Health care managers play a vital role in health care compliance. Not only do they
help to ensure that the organization is compliant, but they can also affect the
formation of health care policy through various means. The consequences of
noncompliance can be extremely detrimental to individuals and organizations. It is
important that a manager understand what the policies are and how they must be
met. It is important to stay informed of changes to existing health care policies or
new policies in the works. The manager may work directly with the regulatory
agencies, but at another time may work with a team within the organization. Either
way, the manager must take appropriate actions to become or stay compliant to all
appropriate policies, for himself, his team, and his organization (Weekly Overview
Week 2, 2014).
The Role of the Manager
Under the new structure of corporate compliance, it is important to realize that the
internal control of compliance programs is now the responsibility of the board,
management, and other internal personnel. The responsibility clearly rests in the
hands of management. The CEO is no longer able to merely place the blame on the
executive staff (Buchbinder, 2012).

Raskolnikov Mood
In a passage excerpted from the novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor
Dostoevsky, Raskolnikov fixes his attention on a girl who is staggeringly drunk.
While Raskolnikov is watching her, he notices a large man who is also paying
special attention to the drunk girl; however, the stranger is clearly intent on taking
advantage of the girl. Raskolnikov notifies a police officer of the circumstance in
order to protect the girl, and in an instant he changes his mind and decides that he
does not care about what happens to the girl, and scoffs at himself for ever getting
involved. Dostoevsky uses this event to reveal the two characteristics that
Raskolnikov often switches between: being a morally good person who helps
others, and a cynic who cares only about himself. Dostoevsky shows Raskolnikov s

Without Dostoevsky writing in 3rd person, it would be confusing as to why
Raskolnikov suddenly changes his mind in regard to the girl s safety. However,
with this choice in writing style, one can read Raskolnikov s thoughts as he goes
into a lengthy monologue about why he decided to stop helping the girl. He
begins by being sympathetic for the poor girl by thinking over all of the terrible
things that will happen to her due to his lack of intervention; however shortly after
he switches over to his pessimistic side by voicing one of his beliefs that if it hadn t
happened to this particular girl, a certain percentage [...] must every year go. This
writing style openly displays and even helps explain Raskolnikov s changing
The Role Of Women In The Philippines
The role of women in the Philippines has changed throughout many years. Women
have fought for equal rights and endured social oppression for many decades.
Much like the United States, the Philippines journeyed through traditional family
roles, strict family expectations and serious consequences for breaking the
accepted norm. In the traditional Filipino society, gender culture has been
transformed by tremendous Western European and American influences
(Francoeur, Perper, and Reiss 2001: 825). Specifically, since the 1960 s, more
Western practices had begun to shape their culture. Previously, Islamic and
Chinese traditions molded early Filipino ways of life. In traditional Chinese
society, women were to be obedient to the father and elder brothers when young
(single), to the husband when married, and to their sons when widowed
(Francoeur et al.2001: 826), this remained true in the Philippines too. Marriage
was a strict union, and women often married to survive economically, obeying their
male counterparts. Women s virginities were emphasized and taken very seriously.
Women were expected to enter marriage as a virgin, while men did not have that
same expectation of purity. If women participated in casual sex or conceived
children out of wedlock they were considered dirty and loose, and looked down
upon by their society (Francoeur et al. 2001: 826 827). Religion influenced women s
sexual roles and duties. A large portion of the Filipino population were either Catholic,
Exages And Disadvantages Of Outsourcing
Many Companies nowadays have engaged outsourcing strategies to reduce cost.
Instead of doing it by their own staff, buying machines for fabrication. they engaged
vendor to do it for them. There are pros and cons when dealing other company to
provide/manufacture/assemble goods. Advantage of outsourcing is that It s
undeniably true that it s cheaper to rent a factory and its workers than to maintain
them yourself. Good outsourcing must have a very good planning to overcome
some changes. The contract must be very well done, well define to adopt changes
and will not result to unexpected rise of cost. Rise of unexpected cost is then called
the overlooking hidden cost. Some of the hiddencost are as follows:

Retirement costs, Many companies having error of still paying retired and terminated
employee due to recording problem and lack of monitoring. This overpayment can
cost hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in foregone savings.
7.Planned headcount reduction, Most companies plan to reduce headcount through
outsourcing, but they usually end up keeping some employees to help in the
transition and the cost of extended period of employees is not accounted for and
adds on as hidden cost.
8.Poor change communications, poor communication about the changes in
outsourcing is extremely complex and burdensome. If you do it poorly and
unplanned, some employees may leave before the transition. Or, if you fail to give
enough notice, some employees or union workers may stay too long. In this case,
you won t be able to reduce your manpower headcount in time, which means you ll
end up paying your employees and your service provider for the same work.
9.Shadow organizations, retained employees in the organization who continue doing
old way things almost always exist in an outsourcing relationship.
10.Staff augmentation, unanticipated hiring and training costs is the backfill position
to those employees leaving early before the
Jeannette Winterson Weight Essay
In Jeanette Winterson s novel Weight, the author demonstrates how myths have
modern personal relevancies and can encourage each reader to investigate the three
main subject matters in their lives; boundaries, freedom, and guilt. The numerous
references to walls throughout the novel signify the boundaries, which make Atlas
strive for freedom. Winterson s Weight, is a modern rewrite on an old myth of Atlas
and Heracles, and the challenges they endure can be interpreted by individual
readers for personal relevancies. Atlas, a father of daughters, is faced with the
burden of carrying the world on his shoulders. This can represent a feeling as if one
is carrying a world of stress and guilt on one s shoulders and conscience. Heracles, the

Atlas constantly is escaping into the limitless of his imagination, where he is not
punished for wanting the forbidden. The Gods hoped that by punishing Atlas to be
trapped in his body under the weight of the world that they would contain his mind,
and they were mistaken. This can be interpreted as the strength and perseverance
from within an individual. The wall that Atlas builds around the Garden of Hesperides
is constructed in such a way that it explains freedom and nothingness that can
sometimes be unappreciated. Winterson writes, I built a walled garden, a temenos,
a sacred space. I lifted the huge stones with my own hands and piled them
carefully, as a goatherd would, leaving tiny gaps to let the wind through. A solid
wall is easily collapsed. My mother stirring in her sleep could do as much. A wall
well built with invisible spaces will allow the winds that rage against it to pass
through. When the earth underneath it trembles, the spaces make room for
movement and settlement. The wall stands. The wall s strength is not in the stones
but in the spaces between the stones. It s a joke against me I think, that for all my
strength and labour, the wall relies on nothing .Write it more substantially
NOTHING. (p. 16). On the contrary, carrying the world doesn t only make one feel
trapped, it also feels as if one is carrying stress and guilt on their conscience, which
Parallax, Star Brightness, And Kepler s Laws Of Planetary...
I chose Proportional Scales in the Solar System, Examining Parallax, Star
brightness, and Kepler s Laws of Planetary Motion because I understood each
section better than the other ones. Honestly I had some corrections to make in each
assignment but in the end they were almost perfect. My first reaction was to
choose topics that were the easiest to write about. But I thought about it and I chose
the topics that I best understood. I enjoyed these activities the most and if I had to
choose my favorite thing I ve ever learned in Science a couple of those would be on
the top of my list.
I chose the four assignments because I did my best job on them. Proportional Scales
in the Solar System deals with proportionality, obviously. The first thing... Show

The biggest thing that stands out to me when I read that question is the Parallax
assignment. When we started that assignment I was so confused, and lost I just
didn t understand it. But when we were done with it I took the most out of that
assignment than any other one. My first example is the answer to the question we
answered at the beginning, and I had no idea what to put so I answered with one
word, again hoping out of pure luck I would be right. If you were to ask me what is
parallax? I would probably stare blankly with no idea what it was, and at the end of
the assignment I could tell you almost anything about it. My second example is how
well my parallax summary turned out, and even my graph. I completely understand
how when the distance to an object increases the observed parallax decreases. I
think the moment I understood everything was when I held up my thumb straight
out in front of me, closed one eye and then the next. I know, it sounds dumb but that
intrigued me into the assignment, when a little part of me finally understood it. My
notebook helped me have everything right in front of me opposed to searching for
multiple papers. Being a visual learner scared me going into high school until I had
the opportunity to see everything at once. In all honesty the one thing that would
improve my notebook would be motivation to myself. If I don t want to answer those
questions we were assigned to do, or even write a summary that
Character Analysis Of Bigger Thomas
Of the many characters, the audience gets to know in native son, Bigger Thomas, the
main character is the most complex. Bigger is the way he is because of his
insecurities and fears, as well as his environment and the discrimination he faces.
Bigger Thomas struggles with negotiating the different formulations of his identity
which are thrown into disarray by a segregated, inequitable and frequently hostile
society. The instability of Bigger s identity is shown to be a product of psychological
disorientation engendered by the environment of racial terror which he must cope.
(Elder 1)
Bigger has no mental focus because of his supremacist society and the absence of
opportunity towards African Americans. The greater part of his brutal contemplations
are generally parts of his actual character or his previous lifestyle that have been
gathering because of the scorn he conveys within himself (Butler structure 3). Bigger
also displays anxiety throughout the majority of the novel. The first instance is when
bigger cannot go through the robbery he and his gang had planned. He is filled with
fear and immense anxiety. Resulting him in lashing out violently. Showing the
audience he is not as fearless as he depicts himself to be. Bigger has all the qualities
of being an alternate individual when he arrives at the Dalton home. He changes his
method of speaking. He uses yessuh and nawsuh . As if he had created an alternate
personality, creating a behavior that is acceptable for
Screwtape Letter
Discerning Between Good and Evil Spirits The Screwtape Letters is an inverted
approach to Christianity that parallels the ideals in Ignatian spirituality. In a
discussion of hell as a means of business, an Uncle, Screwtape, writes letters of
psychological insight for his nephew, Wormwood, to coax his subject into turning
towards Hell. Though C.S. Lewis writes from the perspective of demons, this
organically highlights the truths of Christianity. Screwtape pushes Wormwood to
have the patient discover evil in every dimension of his life as the patient begins to
become a follower of Christianity. To note, the Christian Godis labeled as the Enemy
whereas the Devil is labeled as Our Father Below . In order to turn the subject away...

As Ignatuis sees God present in our daily lives and our creator, so does Screwtape
who pushes Wormwood to distort this image. For example, Screwtape advises,
keep him praying to it to the thing he has made, not to the Person who has made
him (Lewis 18). Screwtape respects God as seen by the capitalization of the word
Enemy and wants the patient to focus on the opposite of God s virtues because
God s love can prove his existence. The demons must work around God and have
their subjects focus on themselves not God. Furthermore, Wormwood has the
subject work with God through God s grace which protects subjects from the
temptations of the devil. Screwtape goes on to criticize Wormwood s ignorance
when Wormwood, allowed [the patient] two real positive Pleasures...[for] when
they are wholly His they will be more themselves than ever (64 65). God wants his
followers to be wholly him and wholly themselves. It is loving God back when a
person is him/herself. Screwtape realizes the faults in letting him act, but the
subject only becomes more humble as Wormwood dismisses said advice. The third
way in which the spirit works is a vision of love. Screwtape berates the Enemy s
philosophy of love that [t]hings are to be many, yet somehow also one (94). God
claims to be the Father, the Son,

Removable Prosthodontics Essay
Removable Prosthodontics Removable prosthodontics is an area that not only
involves the dental prosthesis, their function and components, but also the assessment
of the patient prior to recommending this type of treatment for a patient and whether
or not they are actually a candidate for one. The importance of understanding
extraoral factors that can influence a patient choice could be; a patient s physical
health, mental health, age, dietary habits, motivational factors like esthetics,
occupation and social or economic factors. If a doctor has any concerns that the
patient may have any weaknesses or problems in any of these areas, then choosing a
removable prosthetic may not be the best treatment option for that patient. (p.885

(889) Making the patient part of the design process is also important to help with
choosing the style of teeth and the shades for their smile and then translating all of
this onto the lab prescription just like with the fixed prosthodontic lab prescriptions.
Keeping track of the cases, date of return, appointments, articulators, bites and
models is very important until the case is completed. (889 892) Many patients need
to have many teeth removed due to excessive damage, severe periodontal issues,
severe decay, and will need to have a full denture made. Some will elect to have an
immediate denture so they will not have to go without their anterior teeth for
aesthetic reasons, but will have to go through more adjustment and reline
appointments in the future. Other patients that may be candidates for a partial
denture may have only one or a few missing teeth in one arch but have overall good
health and supporting structures but maybe can t afford a bridge or implant. Again,
this is another very important chapter where educating the patient as well as being
informed about your patient is so important. This chapter also goes well with the
chapter on impression materials and pouring models and
Advantage And Disadvantages Of Wind Energy
1.Introduction As the demand for energy rises, the rate at which energy is consumed
exceeds the rate at which energy is generated, resulting in rolling power outages.
The report will focus on wind energy, highlighting its viability and reliability as a
solution to South Africa s current energy crisis. This report will give a general
overview of renewable energy, focusing on the: definition, brief history and
background, types of renewable energy, and current energy demands. Wind energy
will then be investigated, highlighting: what it is, the generation of electricity from it,
the applications of wind energy, and its reliability. The advantages and disadvantages
of wind energy will then be discussed. Wind energy in the context of South Africa...

Advantages and Disadvantages of Wind Energy 4.1.Advantages 4.1.1.Wind Wind
Energy is a clean and sustainable resource. It is classified as a clean and
sustainable resource as it does not pollute the environment with poisonous and
harmful emissions when being manipulated to generate electrical energy.
4.1.2.Wind Turbines Wind Turbines are space efficient machines that are also cost
effective, as they have low, long term, operational costs. Wind farms can be built
on existing farms, which would then benefit the economy of rural areas as the
owners of the farms could rent out a small portion of land for wind farms and still
work the rest of the farmland. 4.2.Disadvantages 4.2.1.Wind Wind is unpredictable
and fluctuates on an hourly basis, making it difficult to harness and provide a
constant amount of electrical power. Although wind energy is the most cost
effective form of renewable energy resources, it is still more expensive than that of
the manipulation of fossil fuels. 4.2.2.Wind Turbines Wind Turbines are costly to
erect and operate on a short term basis, where a single, commercial scale Wind
Turbine costs roughly $3 to $4 million dollars (approximately R34 608 000.00)
(How much do wind turbines cost?,
Freud s Early Stages Of Gender Development Essay
Freud s early stages of gender development
Freud s psychosexual analysis of gender development emphasizes on impact of
sexuality in human behavior. He believed that an infant was born with immense
sexual desires and aggressive instinct. At each stage the sexual energies shift focus on
different erogenous zones. Also, according to him the child undergoes a constant
struggle between acting based on libidinal instincts and conforming to societal norms
and culture. In this struggle a child s libidinal energy is suppressed and directed onto
culturally accepted activities.
Stage I) Oral stage: This stage ranges from birth and to approximately 18 months. The
erogenous zone is the mouth. In this period child s seeks pleasure through sucking,

Boys feel more powerful due the presence of penis and girls feels inferior due the

them and does not get affected when a boy plays with dolls or girl play with
Nikolaevna Romanov s Tragic Death Of The Romanov
Family
On a hot summer day of June 18, 1901, in Petergof, Russia, a strawberry blonde
blue eye baby girl was born. Her name was Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov, the
youngest daughter of Nicholas the II, was the last person to rule over Imperial
Russia, as well as his wife, Alexandra Fyodorovna. Anastasia had three older sisters
named: Olga, Tatiana, and Maria. Anastasia was also the great great granddaughter to
Queen Victoria of the United Kingdomfrom her mother s side of the family. Many
people have known her as the missing Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia, but
before I inform you about her tragic death I must start from the beginning. The
Romanov family had ruled over Russia for three centuries. The Romanov family

Alexie was the youngest of the five children and only son of Nicholas II and
Alexandra. Like his mother, he was born with hemophilia. Unfortunately, his
mother s reliance on Grigori Rasputin, a holy man who had no medical training to
treat the disease, helped bring about the end of the Romanov dynasty and start the
February Revolution. This relationship with Rasputin and the Tsarina as well as
the four Grand Duchesses was frowned upon by extended family members wildly
and eventually to the Russian people. There were rumors that Rasputin had
unsavory relations with all four of the duchesses and this caused a great rift
between the Royal family and the people as a whole. Rasputin was murdered by the
nobility in Russia on December 17, 1916. The fact that the Anastasia as well as some
of her sisters attended his funeral and showed a decline in their behavior after his
death fueled the rumors even more.
After the February Revolution of 1917, Anastasia and her family were sent into
internal exile in Tobolsk, Siberia. This is where she and her siblings would put on
plays to entertain their family and tried to keep their faith that they would somehow
survive the ongoing unrest within their country. Even in the last months of her life,
she found ways to enjoy herself. She and other members of the household performed
plays for the enjoyment
How Does Arturo Sandoval Create Suspense In A Nigh In
Tunisia
The piece that was listened to was A Nigh in Tunisia by Arturo Sandoval. As for
the tempo, the song was relatively fast in the live performance. Not incredibly fast,
but enough to create suspense or adrenaline. As for the mood of the song, the
tempo created a sense of suspense. The bass line helped emphasize the drama of
the song, which contributed to the overall seriousness of the song. The guitar solo
soon comes in, very powerful and fast. This really helps the listener become evolved
in the piece. The piano accented the piece, which contributed the pep of the song.
When it focused on accompanying the bass however, it helped add even more to the
sense of drama or suspense. As for the key, it actually changed between major

Unethical Eugenics
Eugenics and Ethical Controversies Associated With Human Engineering Over the
course of Global History, Eugenics has been used with and without consent of the
person involved. In the past, Germany used Eugenics during concentration camps,
and currently, sterilization is still in use. This is based on the ideology that your past
determines your future. For the future, a statement that scientists are questioning is
whether or not Eugenicsprovides a safer and sounder world, or is it unethical and
immoral?
The Start of Eugenics
In the United States, the founder of Eugenics was Francis Galton. His research was
focused on following family genetic trees and locating it in offspring. His ideas grew
a strong following including Charles Davenport, the man who founded Eugenics
Record Office. This was a laboratory with the goal, to improve the natural, physical,
mental and temperamental qualities of the human family. (Norrgard, 2008, p.1)
Eugenics History
In 1927, Carrie Buck was considered a prime victim to undergo sterilization with the
greater purpose of Eugenics. She was labeled Mentally deficient (DenHoed, 2016,
p.1) after becoming pregnant unwed at the age of seventeen. Shortly afterwards, she
was sent away to an institution alongside many other supposed outcasts. This did not
only include physical and mentally challenged people, but also humans that had traits
consisting of alcoholism, prostitution, and drug addiction. This concept is not
surprising since the basis for
What Does It Mean To Be Brave
Bravery can mean a lot of things to a lot of different people. Some people might
think bravery is mainly stupidity, but I can promise you it s plenty more than that.
In order to achieve anything you must be brave enough to fail. Be bold, be brave
enough to be your true self. If it wasn t for brave people in this world there is no
telling where we might be right now. Everyone Is brave in their own way. While
some people think bravery means giving up and laying down or being scared to
face your fears, to me it means that it s a strive that keeps you going no matter what
life throws at you. Bravery is not giving up and laying down. There is a quote that I
like very much and it says The real man smiles in trouble, gathers strength from
distress,

  • 2. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Directors Compensation It is not true that shareholders control over directors pay is largely ineffective and demonstrates a significant weakness in UK corporate governance. Executive compensation refers to the financial compensation, as well as other non financial awards received by an executive from their firm as a result of their service to the organization. It mostly refers to a combination of salary, bonuses, shares of or call options on the company stock, benefits, and privileges, usually constructed to take into account government regulations, tax law, the desires of the organization and the executive, and rewards for performance. Executive pay plays a fairly crucial part of corporate governance, and is often under the control of the company s board of directors. In the United Kingdom, shareholders ... Not only that, it should also compare well with the differences in share values and also encourage managers to invest in all pending projects with a positive net present value and also, refuse all the negative proposals. Furthermore, what every company requires is a rewarding system that undoubtedly, accurately, predictably and unceasingly rewards these managers for creating shareholder wealth but also penalizes them if they destroy it. While disadvantages do exist in giving shareholder s the power in controlling the compensation packages of directors, it essentialy does not result in ineffectiveness or demonstrate any fom of severe weakness in the UK s corporate governance. In fact, it is the opposite. The advantages that arise from this scheme have shown that it has worked for the better and thus, proving its effectiveness. Moreover, it has also proved to a stronger pillar of strength to all the perceived weaknesses if this scheme was unavailable and shareholders did not have control of the compensation
  • 3. Emerson s Siddhartha I believe in we should seek our good lives by ourselves. Envy is ignorance, imitation is suicide. This is an idiom said by Emerson. I think he is right because I have never seen people have a same path to success. However, successful people have similar values, they are patient, discipline and passionate. Siddhartha is the person I lovethe most in all the readings. He was brave since he could give up his wealthy life, following the ascetic to the trip of enlightenment. He was discipline because he did not fell in the temptation when he was rich, and having a happy life with his lover. I think the most important value for Siddhartha is independent. He is the person truly understand what he wants, and working on it constantly. He left his best
  • 4. Disrespects Of Protesting In Democracy Although Protesting is usually defined as a childish, or disrespectful act a better definition would be to say it is a vital part to a democracy. A thin line is drawn between the two definitions. People will tend to say protesting is disrespectful because you are rebelling against those who provide and protect you . Others will say it is the wrongful act of being childish because you are fighting someone of an authority figure because you are not getting something you want. While people actually protest to receive something that them or those around them need. However these two definitions are inaccurate because protesting plays a vital part in a democracy. This is true because protesting has made America the amazing country it is today because of rebellious protesting. One prime example of this is the War of Independence more commonly known as the American Revolution. Another example of how protesting plays a crucial part in a democracy was the Boston Tea Party. In the past a protest were different. They were typically more frowned upon by the general population. One example of a protest that was frowned upon by most citizens was the women s rights movement. This protest was frowned upon because men and even some women were uncomfortable with this change. Another protest was the civil rights movements for African Americans. In the past this was looked down by most American citizens because people did not want others to be equal mostly because the fear of no longer
  • 5. Heart Failure By Cambria Diehl Heart Failure Cambria Diehl California State University, Chico Heart failure, HF, is a result of one s heart inefficiently pumping blood out to the body (Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, 2014, p.766). A healthy heart will pump blood out of the left and right ventricles rhythmically and simultaneously, creating an even flow of blood from the heart to the pulmonary arteries and the aorta (Lewis et al., 2014, p.769). Someone with heart failure has a ventricular dysfunction in either one or both ventricles; the ventricles are not filling or contracting properly. With auscultation, the lungs will sound crackly from the liquid in the alveoli and interstitial space and when assessing respiration rate it is likely to be above thirty breaths per minute (Lewis et al., 2014). The patient may report that they are experiencing dyspnea, nocturia, fatigue, and a productive coughing. They may appear anxious and their skin may look pale (Lewis et al., 2014). On the other hand, if the right side of the heart fails, then it will cause a portion of the blood from the ventricle to flow backward creating problems in venous circulation. Blood pressure in the veins will cause edema in multiple areas of the body. Peripheral edema may be visible in the lower extremities of the patient as they will appear swollen in this area, like the abdominal region (Lewis et al., 2014). The swelling of the spleen and the liver may not be visible but it can be present depending on the progress of HF. The jugular vein will look bulging from pressure built up called jugular venous distention (Lewis et al., 2014). The heart will have a murmur and tachycardia may be present. Knowing death is within the near future pushes a mind to wander to insanity. Not being able to go about actions or express thoughts to loved ones in the last moments of life is the leading factor flooding the mind. Through analyzing the deathpenalty s impact in Memories of a Dead Man walking , Sister Helen Prejean emphasizes human s fear of death motivates a need to seek forgiveness and life s purpose. I put my hand on his shoulder ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To have a firm moral bedrock for our societies we must establish that no one is permitted to kill and that includes governments (Prejean). This is a solid argument because the government has had the power from the time this nation was created, but why does that give them the authority to kill? People just go by the rules of society because that is how it has been from the beginning of time. No one person living on this earth should be able to decide if another person is put to death. With that being said the other side has a good argument that these men have done such horrible acts they do not deserve to live and are a threat to the world. I do not condone their terrible crimes (prejean). They have not only killed the person, but hurt the loved ones of that the victim. They have ruined the lives of the people who loved the victim. These criminals may figure out forgiveness is possible and life is full of hope when it is too late. Humans on death row die a thousand times before their actual death. With death near, Sister Helen Prejean s presence is crucial to Patrick and others. There are a mass amount of moral issues involved with the death penalty. Death drives humans to see life in a different way and gives them the opportunity to reach out to God and achieve comfort in
  • 9. Inflation And Its Effect On The Economy Introduction Inflation is another aspect of macroeconomic instability and is a rise in the general level of prices in an economy. When inflation occurs, each dollar of income will buy fewer goods and services than before and reduces the purchasing power of money. **Inflation does not mean that all prices are rising and during periods of rapid inflation, some prices may be relatively constant while others may fall. Almost all prices are set by supply and demand, and if the economy experiences inflation, the overall levels of prices rise. Measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), two types are demand pull and cost push, and affects the nominal and real interest rates, unanticipated and anticipated inflation, nominal and real interest rates, and hyperinflation. **According to Investopedia, Finally, inflation is a sign that an economy is growing. In some situations, little inflation can be just as bad as high inflation. The lack of inflation may be an indication that the economy is weakening. As you can see, it s not so easy to label inflation as either good or bad it depends on the overall economy as well as your personal situation. (Investopedia). The historical event known as the Great Recession lasted from December 2007 until June 2009, and the extent of the economic damage significantly affected the labor market and the living standards of low and moderate income Americans. Would you put him in your chicken coop with your chicken, or actually treat him like a person? Magical realism occurs many times throughout A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings. The short story is about a poor family who find an old sickly man with enormous wings in their backyard after a three day storm happened. Not knowing what to do with him, because he didn t speak their language, they put him in their chicken coop. Juxtaposition, incorporation of myth and social critique occurs throughout this story. Juxtaposition places two things side by side to compare, contrast or to create a interesting effect. One example of juxtaposition was a old man having enormous wings. He was a weak old looking man which made the fact that he had enormous wings contrast. ...it was an old man, a very old man, lying face down in the mud, who, in spite of his tremendous efforts, couldn t get up, impeded by his enormous wings (p1). • 13. Hybrid Automobiles vs. Fuel-efficient Automobiles Whether for ecological or economic reasons, consumers are feeling a pressing need to purchase a fuel efficient automobile. However, the array of choices on the market are staggering. Not only do consumers have the choice between different brands of automobile manufactures; manufacturers are also offering different types of fuel efficient cars. Some fuel efficient cars use traditional internal combustion engines alone; others offer the option to use alternative fuel sources like diesel and biodiesel; and others yet offer the opportunity to drive a car with an electric or a hybrid engine. The decision of which fuel efficient car to purchase depends on several lifestyle factors. Price sensitivity and prestige are issues to be considered when making the choice between fuel efficient or hybrid car. Concern for the environment and for reducing dependence on fossil fuel might be an impetus for choosing hybrid over a fuel efficient traditional car. Moreover, driving and usage patterns are among the most salient issues impacting the choice between a standard fuel efficient car versus a hybrid electric car. Generally, standard fuel efficient automobiles are better for drivers who are price sensitive and who drive longer distances less often, whereas hybrid electric automobiles will be more attractive to drivers who commute relatively short distances to work every day. Price, politics, and driving patterns are the most important points of reference when comparing a hybrid with a

The first class is referred to as old money and is made up of families that have acquired wealth over many generations, such as the Rockefellers, the Carnegies, and the Vanderbilts. On the other side of the wealth spectrum are individuals and families that have acquired money within the last few decades. This type of wealth includes Bill Gates, the Hiltons, and Oprah and it is often referred to as new money. The differences between these two classifications often lead to disrespect, on both sides. Those that are lumped into the world of old money often feel that they deserve a level of respect and acknowledgement. Their money has been gained through hard work and sacrifices by generations of family members, and due to that fact, respect is in order. The feelings regarding respect and dignity towards old money is clearly visible in a poem written by Ben Jonson titled To Penshurst. The poem was written as praise to a wealthy landowner in England and shows the grandeur that accompanies this kind of wealth. Throughout the poem the author addresses the entire estate, which was owned by Sir Philip Sidney. It refers to how great the estate is and the joy that accompanies living there. The abundance of wealth acquired by the Sidney family has allowed them to provide a haven for all those associated with them. This is very obvious in lines sixty three and sixty four, Where the same beer and bread, and selfsame wine, This is his lordship s shall be also mine (63 64) This poem was written through the eyes of a servant of the Sidney family and therefore shows the faithfulness and loyalty towards them. It also shows the willingness of the Sidney s to share their wealth with friends, servants, neighbors, and even the king, That found King James when, hunting late this way With his brave son, the Prince,

This is because for the muscles to continue to exert high amounts of energy they need to have constant oxygenated blood going to them so breathing becomes faster so the oxygen can get to the blood and the heart beats faster so that the oxygenated blood can reach the muscles quicker. The reason your heart takes longer to get back to its resting rate after longer lengths of exercise is because your heart is already at a relatively high rate so it will take a while to get back to resting rate (just like it will take a hot cup of water longer to freeze, than it will take a cold cup of water to freeze.) Added on to that muscles produce wastes so after a long amount of exercise the heart needs to keep beating slightly fast to get rid of the wastes that were produced by the muscles after the exercise. Improvement/Recommendations: An improvement to the experiment could be doing the trials for a longer amount of time until it reached the resting heart rate, using a heart rate monitor or manual pulse reading for the whole experiment instead of alternating between

In order to live the paschal mystery humans must have the desire to have a positive peace or known as justice. Justice is the ability for a group of people to be able to recognize the problems in the world, and then be able to act on it. Brackley explains the importance of being able to recognize the need for justice, ...the centrality of justice not only reflects new insight into the faith; it also reflects a waking up to the world around us (Brackley 2). Justice is being able to reflect and acknowledge the problems on what is going on in the world constantly. In the poems, When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom d, and A Child Said What is the Grass? . Whitman talks about both population growth, and the many deaths during the Civil War. He sees life and death as a cycle, and examines life after the life of an individual. The basic meanings of Whitman s poems are very relevant to what he was facing at the time. As a nurse in the Civil War, he saw many young, dedicated people die for what they believed in. He respected these soldiers, and felt that their deaths should have meaning. In both of these poems, Walt Whitmanuses the seasons to remember his fallen friends; mourning their lives as new buds of spring appear. My Philosophy Of Education Philosophy Education Philosophy My philosophy is that teaching is building lifelong habits so students have the skills, knowledge, and motivation to be successful learners. My role as a teacher is to engage students interest in learning, to create a supportive learning environment, and to provide resources for all students in my classroom. My relationship with students is one of encouragement, structure and patience. I encourage all students to be actively involved in their learning and I use a variety of methods to encourage discussion and interaction. Some methods I frequently use in my teaching are questioning techniques, gradual release of responsibility (I do, we do, you do), educational protocols like pair share, and incorporating the use of technology with students. In creating lesson plans, I consider students developmental needs and learning styles. As a teacher, I create a responsible classroom that has respect, cooperation, and the belief that each student can be a successful learner. I believe respect is earned as a teacher by being fair, firm, and friendly and I play a key role in modeling how to be respectful to others in the classroom. Respect is demonstrated daily through student classroom interactions like being helpful to others and listening to others. I also believe it is important to not take things personally as a teacher because students are still trying to learn both academically and behaviorally and being calm is important to developing a positive

Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media acceptance is high (Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don t measure up to the external crowd (Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack the capabilities and fall short to the external crowd s full capacity. Community Service At Northview Church Community Service is not strange to me because I have been doing community service at Northview Church since the beginning of my sophomore year in high school. When I saw the assignment that I have to complete 4 hours of community services, I knew that Northview church was my first choice. Northview church was found by Tommy Paino in October 1980. There were only 30 people in the cafeteria of Carmel Elementary School where they formed the church which later become Northview Church. Three years later, in the month of July, 1983. 285 people attended the last service at Carmel Elementary School, then they moved to the church s new place which is located at 131st and Gray Road. In the late 1985, the church bought an 81 acre of land located at the highest point in Hamilton County on the southwest west corner of Main Street in the city of Carmel. This is the place the church is currently located at ( Northview Church History ). Throughout my service, I learned that the church s mission is to connect people with God and connect people with people. They value relationships, spiritual growth, and the ability to reach out to those who are far from God. During my four hours of community service, I did many things such as mowing grass, throw wastes into the dumpster by driving a tractor, and clean the sidewalk by using a wind blower. To other people, it may seem like that there are just light duty work, but to me every work done will make the community look better no matter how light

Usually, those movements affect the people who are desperate in life and have no God, religion, and who are confused about their own identity. The leader that contributes to the lives of those people will let them feel that they are hooked to God by him and that everything he says is 100% true and that it is from God. By this, the people believe that he passes the messages of faith from God but instead, he s passing his own religious ideas that may lead to wars, the killing of people, and vicious crimes. Jonestown Massacre is one of the worst examples in history for brainwashing for the religious conversions. People in Jonestown drank Kool Aid and died, but they thought that they made whatever God wanted them to do even if it was a crime. But in reality, many people thought that the CIA was responsible for what happened that day. Moreover, the Soviet Union blamed the American CIA for what happened and they had documents and records that confirm their beliefs. And this was because of the idea of communism that increased among the American people. Considering that the communists were responsible for the brainwashing of the Americans to convert their own religion and become

Descriptive Essay On Hippie Fishing Crappie fishing; to most, bring visions of cool spring mornings with fog lingering over the surface of the lake and burning off shortly after rigging a bobber and a minnow to cast to a brush pile and wait for the Crappie to find your bait. Classic Crappie fishing to be sure and very effective to say the least, as many of you, like myself, grew up fishing this way almost exclusively. Crappie anglinghas changed and progressed into a very technical endeavor and crankbaits is one of those techniques that works great when crappie begin the fall migration to shallow water following the shad. When the leaves begin to turn each season, shad begin swimming the shorelines in large schools providing slab crappie some opportunities to fatten up for the winter. It is during this time that small crankbaits resembling these shad work great at luring those slabs from shallow cover. Rip rap and chunk rock banks attract shad as well as big crappie chasing those shad. A single tree along that rock bank can create an ambush point for big crappie and will replenish so returning to that cover throughout the day can prove rewarding. My favorite crankbait is any that resembles a shad. Smaller crankbaits seem to work best but I have switched to a larger crankbait with good results when the shad is big; however, small crankbaits is your best choice for consistent bites. Color always comes up in conversations pertaining to crappie. Personally, I use shad colors, but crawfish patterns and bright

The poem is set in a lush meadow, and takes the reader through the emotional stages of the lovelorn mower of the meadow. The mower has a blossoming new affection for Juliana. The mower sees a likeness between his blossoming affection and the blossoming of the fresh meadow, and is comparing his relationship with Juliana to the meadow. Marvell seems to have led a relatively private personal life. In his article Detached Commitment Paul Deen writes that Marvell seems more interested with the potential for love than its realization, no doubt because no commitment is involved at this stage. This recurring theme could be a reflection of Marvell himself, maybe Marvell was a bit detached, which would explain the absence of an active personal life. Raskolnikov notifies a police officer of the circumstance in order to protect the girl, and in an instant he changes his mind and decides that he does not care about what happens to the girl, and scoffs at himself for ever getting involved. Dostoevsky uses this event to reveal the two characteristics that Raskolnikov often switches between: being a morally good person who helps others, and a cynic who cares only about himself. Dostoevsky shows Raskolnikov s complex and quick changing character through the literary devices of tone, diction, and point of view. Much like the United States, the Philippines journeyed through traditional family roles, strict family expectations and serious consequences for breaking the accepted norm. In the traditional Filipino society, gender culture has been transformed by tremendous Western European and American influences (Francoeur, Perper, and Reiss 2001: 825). Specifically, since the 1960 s, more Western practices had begun to shape their culture. Previously, Islamic and Chinese traditions molded early Filipino ways of life. In traditional Chinese society, women were to be obedient to the father and elder brothers when young (single), to the husband when married, and to their sons when widowed (Francoeur et al.2001: 826), this remained true in the Philippines too. Marriage was a strict union, and women often married to survive economically, obeying their male counterparts. Women s virginities were emphasized and taken very seriously. Women were expected to enter marriage as a virgin, while men did not have that same expectation of purity. If women participated in casual sex or conceived children out of wedlock they were considered dirty and loose, and looked down upon by their society (Francoeur et al. 2001: 826 827). Religion influenced women s sexual roles and duties. A large portion of the Filipino population were either Catholic,

The wall that Atlas builds around the Garden of Hesperides is constructed in such a way that it explains freedom and nothingness that can sometimes be unappreciated.
