Rao and Cartledge (2009) reported that minority and economically disadvantaged children have
difficulty in reading comprehension. Reading comprehension involves reading, decoding, making
connections to prior knowledge and thinking deeply about the text (Reading Rockets, 2015).
Reading comprehension is a skill that is used inside and outside of the classroom, which means it
should be effectively taught. Since this is an important skill that many children struggle with, I
would like to focus on assisting children with enhancing their reading comprehension skills. I
would like to create a program that focuses on building reading comprehension skills through the
implementation of drama techniques.

Adomat (2012) conducted research on the connection between drama based reading instruction and
reading comprehension. Adomat (2012) provided small group reading instruction that utilized
drama techniques such as hotseating, role playing and tableaux. Hotseating involves a student or

Waal (2008) predicts that there will be 2.93m cohabiting couples by 2021 (p. 47). This would be a
90% increase in the past 25 years. Cohabiting couples have become more common due to the
increase in social acceptance. An article in the New York Times (2012) contributes the increase to

Theory and Research Question The relation between cohabitation and divorce rates can also be
explained through the use of Deviance. Deviance is a theory in which a society views an action as
unacceptable (William and Thorton 2014). Cohabitation has transferred from being deviant to a
social norm in past years. Those who cohabit are no longer a minority. For this reason the Deviance
Theory is a possible explanation as to why there has been a shift in the relation between premarital
cohabitation and divorce rates. We question the relation between premarital cohabitation and
divorce. From looking at literature regarding this question I hypothesize that time and social change
determines cohabitation and divorce.
Methods. The qualitative method proposed for gathering data is a longitudinal cohort study.
Participants in the study include couples who have been married in the year 2015. The
participants will include 20 couples from each of the 50 states. 10 of the couples will have
cohabited prior to marriage

(Greene, 2009). Typically, individuals will choose to disclose to those with whom they have a

situations arise that contradict these assumptions, as in the case of public disclosure of private
