Essay on The Football Game
The Football Game
In the beginning, there was football. The official said, Let the stadium lights come on, and they
came on. The football players came onto the field, and they saw the light was good. Other teams
started to show up and practice on the battle ground, otherwise known as the playing field. Fans
shouted, and cheerleaders went on about their playful acts. Parents, brothers, sisters, and close
friends all piled into the stands to see the game of the year. The official stepped out onto the moist
grass at Williams Stadium in Plano, Texas. The time was seven o clock p.m. on a Thursday night.
He paused for a moment, looked at his stopwatch, and blew his whistle. Gigantic muscular men
came from out of nowhere as the fans began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The kick off approached for both teams, almost instantaneously. Memories of past football
games, and practices were rushing through our heads. The time clock read fifteen minutes even;
time outs were at three a piece, and it was the first quarter. Suddenly, a whistle blew, and brown
bundle of pigskin went flying into the air. Running to the ball, one of the Clark Cougars quickly
caught the football, stepped left, then to the right, covering positive yardage. Soon after, the ball
carrier was brought down by a pack of Warriors, and the ball was first down for the Cougars.
I had been waiting for this moment all of my life. The match up of the century was about to
begin. The Clark Cougars have lost 14 years straight to the Warriors. Coaches only daydreamed
of beating the undefeated Warriors. As the quarterback called the play, I smiled with joy. The
first play of the game was to me. I played running back for the team, so I was going to run the ball.
First play, up the middle of the field, I ran for a fifteen yard gain. The next play was to one of my
fellow team mates, which he also ran for another large gain of 26 yards. I could not believe my
eyes. After all these years, the game was finally here. We, as a team, were slowly tearing apart the
Warrior s defense.
Our offense was dominating the ball, and they could not

Characteristics Of Magnet Schools
Magnet schools are a fantastic idea when viewed from a large spectrum, however the system
remains slightly skewed. Northern Hartford is 80% Black and Latino. Many of the students that
attend magnet schools represent these ethnicities. However, there are still parents searching for a
better academic option for their children as they attend the inner city public schools that exemplify
all of the characteristics discussed before: poor educators, run down buildings, and merely an
inadequate quality of education. These parents try very hard to enroll their children into the magnet
schools, but unfortunately, 50% of these ethnic children are on a waitlist. Once again, white
children are prioritized.
Officials of these magnet schools go out of their way to seek out white children to attend these
magnet schools in order to meet the quota, and yes, it creates a diverse environment, but these white
children, again, are given additional opportunities. If a white child and his or her parent do not like
the magnet school, they can easily attend their neighborhood school which is usually highly
accredited. On the contrary, for Black and Latino children of Northern Hartford, the magnet school
is their one and only opportunity to escape the inadequate, segregated, public school system, and
yet, these children are the ones on the waitlist.
Overall, magnet schools provide an opportunity for success to children of all ethnicities. It exposes
them to diversity and broadens their views of greater society. Children are likely to perform well
due to the extensive resources provided in these magnet schools such as the vivarium and
planetarium in the magnet school for environmental sciences. Not only is it beneficial for the
children, but it demonstrates to parents who grew up in white, suburban, areas with one or two
black children that diversity is good, that these children are just like any others but with a different
skin tone. Integration aids in ridding the idea of racism and stereotypes. Ultimately, it is the
solution for a myriad of societal issues. In the establishment of magnet schools, the existing
diversity exemplifies symbolic interactionism between the children. Through their interactions, each
student is

A Wrinkle In Time Literary Analysis
A Wrinkle in Time: Proof that Faults are Strengths A Wrinkle in Time s theme showing that faults
are strengths compares to the 2018 movie adaptation. It is commonly believed that faults are flaws
or weaknesses; however, this is not necessarily true. What if a fault was viewed simply as a
difference or even a hidden strength rather than an imperfection. Madeleine L Engles classic novel
A Wrinkle in Timeprovides us many examples how personal faults can be our greatest strengths.
This is not only demonstrated throughout the book, but it is seen in the modern day movie as
well. The novel and film both show the power of faults, but the book emphasizes the theory in
more detail than the movie. To prove faults are strengths, first the book must be analyzed. In L
Engle s classic novel, Meg s greatest faults become her greatest strengths. By Mrs. Whatsit
granting Meg with greater faults (L Engle 112), she is actually providing her with greater
strength. does not immediately realize how this is possible. My faults! But I m always trying to
get rid of my faults (L Engle 112). The book details how Meg learns her faults are her greatest
strengths and this theme continues throughout the story. One of the most powerful examples is
shown with IT. IT s greatest weakness is love, but love is Meg s greatest strength. Meg used the

thought was stupid. People may have viewed this as a fault, but this was the strength that made
Charles Wallace extremely smart. However, there is one major difference. In the 2018 film, many
details found in the book were changed or excluded. It made it much harder to find the theme, but it

Addressing Business And It Alignment For Future Business...
Addressing Business and IT Alignment for Future Business Success There are questions that a
company must address to help guarantee future success. Listed in this text are some questions
that I will attempt to address: First, I will address how should companies prioritize the demands
of various business units as they relate to IT; some factors that drive IT decisions; who or what is
the moving force behind IT decisions; types of efficiency metrics and effectiveness metrics that IT
should use; and issues with using financial metrics to evaluate IT. How do companies prioritize the
demands of various business units as they relate to IT? To begin with, a companies should align IT
and business objectives. In the past, IT departments have used... Show more content on

According to CIO magazine, 60% of the total IT budget goes towards infrastructure assets within
most companies; therefore, proper rationalization enables IT executives to identify sources of
money to fund other strategic initiatives. Of course companies would want to implement new
initiative while lessoning the chances for failure. Risk Reduction solutions allow information
technology executives to reduce risk to their business operations from internal and external IT
factors. The risk from internal factors is primarily attributed to poor planning and execution of
projects and initiatives. The risk from external factors can be from competitors, suppliers, or
unsatisfied customers. What drives IT decisions? Productivity is usually the main reason that
drives IT decisions within companies. Companies invest in computers and devices in information
technology because they believe those investments will improve their productivity. However, the
impact of IT cost on a company s productivity is not always easily apparent and sometimes
onerous to quantify. IT security investments are another factor that drives IT decisions. Security is
another reason that drive IT decisions. According to SC Magazine article published in February

Victor Martinez s Parrot In The Oven
The title of this book is called Parrot in the Oven and is an extended metaphor that means there is a
parrot who is complaining about being too hot in the shade when he is actually in the oven.
Meaning, Manny used to be ignorant, but he no longer is because of the events he went through.
Victor Martinez, the author of Parrot in the Oven is a Bildungsroman because the character Manny
grows up throughout the story by learning through racism, social hierarchy, seeing gang activity,
and watching Eddie go down the wrong path. Manny will begin to realize that he wants to change
his life around.
Manny learns his first lesson through hierarchy and racism. Manny watched a boxing match
between a Mexican and a black boy, and it is extremely racially intense. At the end of the chapter
Manny had to take off Lencho s gloves because nobody else would do it for him. Manny said,
They said that he brought embarrassment to them, and worse, caused a loss of unity between them
and their black brothers. (139) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eddie steals a purse from an elderly lady. Manny was given a second chance by the black man. In
that instant of trying to call out to Eddie everything changed. It was like I d seen my own fate.
(210) Manny said this because he realized that he is on the completely wrong path in life. Manny
realizes that Eddie is starting to pick up character traits like his father and Manny cannot turn out
to be like his own dad. Manny knows that he does not want to throw away his life so he turns it
around because he knows what the outcome will be if he does not change.
In conclusion, this novel is a Bildungsroman, a coming of age novel where the main character
learns a valuable life lesson, because through racism, social hierarchy, seeing gang activity, and
watching Eddie go down the wrong path. Manny realizes what kind of person he wants to be and
therefore, grows up. He is no longer the Parrot in the

The Link Between Drama Based Reading Instruction And...
Introduction
Rao and Cartledge (2009) reported that minority and economically disadvantaged children have
difficulty in reading comprehension. Reading comprehension involves reading, decoding, making
connections to prior knowledge and thinking deeply about the text (Reading Rockets, 2015).
Reading comprehension is a skill that is used inside and outside of the classroom, which means it
should be effectively taught. Since this is an important skill that many children struggle with, I
would like to focus on assisting children with enhancing their reading comprehension skills. I
would like to create a program that focuses on building reading comprehension skills through the
implementation of drama techniques.
Research
Adomat (2012) conducted research on the connection between drama based reading instruction and
reading comprehension. Adomat (2012) provided small group reading instruction that utilized
drama techniques such as hotseating, role playing and tableaux. Hotseating involves a student or
students assuming the role of a character, and respond to questions by their classmates. This allows
students to analyze characters, infer, elaborate and think quickly on their feet. When students role
play they are in pairs and take turns playing different characters. Lastly, in tableaux after reading a
book as a whole group the students had to determine the most important parts and create visuals
with their body. At the end of the year, the students took a reading assessment,

Examples Of Forgiveness In Forgiveness
FORGIVENESS IN MARRIAGE
Joy has been married for five years now. Her husband is always verbally, physically abusing her.
She has tried to visit all the marriage counselor around her. Her husband does not see it as an
issue. She has gone back to her parent s time and again but the man keeps coming back asking
for forgiveness. Once in a while, she has gone back having forgiven the husband. But he keeps
redoing it. As a Christian wife, she is in a catch 22 situation. She no longer knows what
forgiveness means. She is caught in between forgiveness. As a Christian and a wife, what does
forgiveness mean to her and her marriage according to the Bible.
Forgiveness: Is the act of wiping away, pardoning or forgoing a debt. As a Christian, if we
forgive it means we forgo the hurt we underwent caused by someone and start the relationship a
fresh. Forgiveness isn t granted because the person deserves it, but it is an act of mercy and grace
covered by love.
Human beings are naturally sinful. The first people Adam and Eve disobeyed God right in front of

for the first time, he realized he was naked. Adam immediately seeks God. Asking for forgiveness

What Is Stretching Essay
Benefits of Stretching
The body is flexible. It is supposed to be flexible. You must be able to bend and reach that
something you dropped on the floor. You must be able to zip the back of your favorite dress on
your own. You must be able to reach that book you need to read at the top shelf. These are simple
activities. Nothing grand about them, you merely stretched out a bit. However, if there are
difficulties in doing such simple motions, then you have to stretch your limits. You already need a
stretching program.
What Is Stretching?
Stretching is simply the act of extending to full length the body or simply a part of it. This activity
involves straightening or stretching the structure or the limbs.
How Does One Do the Stretching?
Stretching is fairly easy. As mentioned in the introduction, it is involved in the normal activities. It

It can be incorporated in the lifestyle and the daily activities. It does not require much of your
time. Stretching exercises can also be done while training. Actually, stretching is an essential
part of any training or sport. It must be done first before anything else. Stretching the body and
the limbs is a good preparation for a more rigorous activity. Most athletes would do the sit and
reach, wherein they position on the floor, extend their legs and reach the tip of their foot with the
tip of their hand. Actually, most trainers actually require their athletes to really do the stretching
before playing. There is actually an ideal length of time in stretching. It is best to do it in 10
minutes. This will give the body enough opportunity to move and flex the muscles, thus preparing
it for more complicated and strenuous movements. Experts however would frown upon going way
beyond 10 minutes. Stretching the exercise to 30 minutes or more will already wear out the body.
This will not be favorable if one is preparing for a

Tragedies While Climbing Mount Everest Are Caused by Human Error
Especially in terrible weather, every second counts while nearing the top of Mount Everest on an
expedition. A step in the wrong place or a rope hooked to the wrong crag may send a climber
falling thousands of feet into a deep crevasse. Turning an oxygen level the wrong way may leave
the air non breathable to a climber after a few short minutes. These errors happen every season on
Everest, no matter what the conditions are. Whether errors in judgement or just simple mistakes,
accidents on Mount Everest are caused by human error.
During pushes up the mountain, it is easy for climbers to make subtle decisions that may have
grave consequences later on the hike. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other physical errors involved the precious resource of oxygen atop the mountain. In one instance,
guide Andy Harris refused to believe that a portion of the oxygen canisters stored at the South
Summit contained oxygen, often reporting There s no oxygen here! (qtd. in ITA, 195) After
research and tests other climbers deduced that there was in fact a supply of oxygen just below
the top of the mountain where Harris stood. The misunderstanding by Harris was likely caused
by a faulty oxygen register, but his unwillingness to believe his own tests were wrong confused
many struggling climbers. Harris caused additional trouble while descending the mountain; he
turned Jon Krakauer s oxygen level in the wrong direction on his tank. This caused Krakauer to
have a sudden surge of pure oxygen followed by his canister running out of the gas. The mistakes
by Harris and Krakauer caused Krakauer s schedule of receiving oxygen to be thrown off balance,
causing his descent to be severely tougher than expected.
Climbers neglect of their own physical limitations also caused grief during the climb and descent.
The harsh winds and temperatures of the high altitudes unexpectedly tortured Beck Weathers, who
had undergone eye surgery months before the climb. The conditions caused Beck to lose almost all
of his vision, which obviously impacted his attempt at descending the mountain. If Beck had taken

Bone Marrow Transplant Research Paper
The Different Kinds of Bone Marrow Transplants There are three different types of BMTs,
autologous, allogeneic, and syngeneic. In autologous BMTs the patient who is receiving the bone
marrow was also the donor. Before patient received their treatment, in the form of chemotherapy,
radiation, or both, stem cells were taken from the patient via bone marrowharvest or apheresis (The
Johns Hopkins University, para. 10). Apheresis is a process of collecting peripheral blood stem
cells, stem cells found in the bloodstream (National Marrow Donor Program, para. 1). Once the
cells are removed, they are frozen, and then given back to the patient after their treatment. The term

8), neuroblastoma (Knight, Jackson Grusby, and White Ryan, 163), and some solid tumor cancer,
however those are very rare (The Johns Hopkins University, para. 8). Additional cancers are being
evaluated in clinical trials for eligibility (Knight, Jackson Grusby, and White Ryan, 163).
Matching Donors and Patients Finding a potential donor involves matching the human leukocyte
antigen (HLA) tissue. These antigens are on the surface of special white blood cells. The HLA
tissue determines the genetic makeup of a person s immune system (The Johns Hopkins University,
para. 11). Doctors try to minimize the possible side effects of BMTs by using donor stem cells
that match the patients as closely as possible. The overall success of a BMT depends on how
closely the match between donor and patient was. Less than one third of patients will have a
matched sibling; siblings are often the closest matches. In about one half of the cases it is
possible to find an unrelated, matched donor. The chances of a donor matching a patient increase
drastically if the two are of the same racial and ethnic background. Blood work is used to
determine the level of a match between donor and patient. Donor registries are often used to find
donors when there is no related match.

Hidden Curriculum In The Movie The Doctor
On page 99 100 hidden curriculum is defined as the attitudes and practices that others model,
even though they do not explicitly teach them. In the book Michael Wilkes gives a good quote
explaining that even though we are taught and teach about how to be appropriate and respect
different cultures, different health practices etc. the moment we are in a situation where a peer
disses, or makes fun of a patient everyone kind of falls into it to be part of a so called club to fit
in. So actually seeing is doing when training these new professionals, and to achieve true change
comes from modeling the behavior that we want to see. My interpretation of the term was pretty
close to the way the textbook explained it, that when we are in a professional setting even though
we are always taught to have these standards on how we communicate things and deal with others
we don t always follow that rule and sometimes like to poke fun at the fact to make our colleagues
laugh which isn t always the moral thing to do.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ghost The Musical Analysis
Ghost: The Musical
Director Douglas E. Stark s adaption of Ghost (based off of Bruce Rubin s story) turns a classic
story into a musical. Stark has worked with Beef and Boards for 40 years and, in 2008, joined
Hillcrest Asset Management as a Managing Director. Beef and Boards is celebrating its 45th
anniversary season with productions such as Mamma Mia, Million Dollar Quartet, and Elf: The
Musical. Beef and Boards theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana made this director s dream of a specific
musical come true with their production of Ghost: The Musical; which I was able to watch on
Thursday, October 26, 2017. The production featured a unique set (featuring an interesting stage
paired with strong lighting) accompanied by a talented cast including the performers, director, and
technical crew. The simplest description for Ghost is a romance gone wrong when tragedy
strikes. The curtain opens on a happy couple, Sam Wheat (Eddie Egan) and Molly Jensen
(Andrea Laxton), moving into their new apartment; however, after a few scenes, a robbery causes
his death. Carl Bruner (Patrick Michael Joyce), Sam s best friend, had been the true reason of his
demise. The musical was, to say the least, a success.
The plot of this theatre piece features characteristics of a comedy, mystery, action, and science
fiction writing. The unique combination of these characteristics gives every member of the
audience the opportunity to enjoy the piece. However, I do believe, the director should have

Prison Gangs Essay
There are many different types of gangs around the world. Some gangs consist of Skinheads,
Asians, Latinos, African American and Caucasians. But there are some gangs that are mixed with
different ethnics.
Prison gangs are criminal associations that started inside the punitive framework and they have kept
on operating inside remedial offices all through the United States. Prison gangs are likewise
managing toward one criminal element that can precede with their operations outside the
restrictions the reformatory framework. Commonly, a prison gang comprises of a select gathering
on detainees who have a sorted out progressive system and who are represented by a secured set of
principles. Gangs fluctuate in both association and organization from very organized groups. Prison
gangs keep on carrying out criminal movement, enroll new parts in urban, suburban, and provincial
areas over the United States, and create criminal affiliations that extend their impact over criminal
undertakings, especially road level drug deals. The most eminent patterns for 2011 have been the
general increment in gang enrollment, and the extension of criminal street gangs control of road
level drug deals and coordinated effort with adversary groups and other criminal associations.
An alternate impact of prison gangs is a feeling of fitting in with a family unit. Prisoners get a

Examples Of Sibling Rivalry In King Lear
The average household consists of sibling rivalry and receives commonality over the years as it is
presented thoroughly dating back to ancient times. It is not a secret so much that plays and
productions have adapted this into entertainment for relatable reasons, therefore, making it a classic
story base. Furthermore, the industry overshadowed the theme upon King Learfrom Shakespeare,
which metamorphosed into two story foundations constructed from the subject matter. Sibling
rivalry can be detected throughout history and foremost cast over King Lear, as the finding in the

Essay On Myotonic Dystrophy
Myotonic Dystrophy is a late onset disease which has two types. The first type is DM1. In order
to test for DM1 a molecular genetic test is performed on DMPK. DMPK stands for Dystrophia
myotonica protein kinase. This test is 100% accurate because it will detect the pathogenic variants
in all patients. DM1 comes from a defect in chromosome nineteen.
The second type is DM2. Interesting enough the gene CNBP is the only gene in which a mutation
within it is known to cause myotonic dystrophy in its second type. It s more than 99% accurate
with the combination of routine PCR, Southern blot analysis, and the PCR repeat primed assay.
DM2 comes from a defect in chromosome three.

recommended to discover what is just the right balance for exercise depending on the individual.
Though a study was done that in which strengthening exercises at a moderate intensity did not

The New Ways Of Thinking Influenced The Renaissance
Humanism is derived from the movement that happened from the fourteenth to the sixteenth
centuries. The start point of Humanism is in Italy. It is an important development during the
Renaissance. Because of the terrible Black Death in 14th century. The population of Europeans
decreased extremely. A lot of people died of the Black Death. At the beginning of that time, people
thought the Black Death is God s punishment for living life in sin. People went to Church and hope
the forgiveness of God. However, the wide spread of the Black Death didn t stop. The dead body
forced the people started finding the other new way. Instead of believing in God, people started to
think about science. The scientists did the research and treated the Black Death by more scientific
way. People started thinking about the man himself and explored natural environment by more
scientific method. The new ways of thinking influenced the development of Humanism in art
during the Renaissance. The Renaissance artworks are about the re discovery of ancient Greek and
Roman artworks and their way of life. Humanists rejected the religion concept and not believe in
the supernaturalism. They tried to discover the natural creatures and destiny of man. Artists learned
the human beauty from the ancient Greek and Roman artworks and architectures. They began to
find out more ideas about the human experience, personal independence and social community.
They brought the Humanism ideas into their artworks. Humanism

Hip Hop Music is More Than a Couple of Words
Hip Hop music is more than just a couple of words that rhyme together; it s a culture, its spiritual
movement that has helped people in various ways. Where it originated from is particularly
among the African American youth in Bronx, New York. DJ s in Bronx would isolate
percussive breaks in popular songs and those genres of music were typically funk, disco, and
soul records. Since those genres were relatively short, DJ s would use turn tables to extend and
mix the beats which eventually formed a new genre of music known as hip hop. The father of
hip pop was known as DJ Kool Herc, but other people might say Grandmaster Flash and The
Furious Five were the ones to do it because of their success of hip pop music. That group of artist

Theseus, the leader of Athens, is going down a road and he sees four women crying on their
knees. He asks them why they are crying and they say that their husbands were killed at the

The Causes And Impacts Of Transnational Corporations
Transnational Corporations (TNCs), also known as Multinational corporations (MNCs), are
businesses that have subsidiaries in at least one other state other than their home state (Jackson,
2013) Due to their reach they have a fairly significant role on global politics. They control the
mass of the economy and GDP of many states, place pressure on policy makers through their
decisions and influence the decisions of citizens through media. They, however, would not be able
to function without the rules and economic control states have to create a market place and media
channels. This limits their power to an extent but they still retain a position of power within the
global political scene.
TNCs have had a massive growth post World War II with America dominating the international
market well into the 1960 s until Europe and Japan began to compete against them. In the modern
global market changes in political regimes and ideologies have allowed for a diverse market with
Eastern Europe and many other Asian countries finding their way in. China has made itself a super
power in international trade, manufacturing and export due to the cheap costs. Many Transnational
corporations have more worth than some states with Wal Mart being worth more than Israel, Poland
and many others. There is an estimated sixty one thousand TNCs that make up two thirds of the
global trade with a third coming from inter firm transactions (Raghavan, 1996). The states

The Human Family Tree Chapter Summaries
The topic of where man originated from is often argued between many individuals. This video
The Human Family Tree cleared up many questions I had about where we all came from. I
sometimes see things online saying that a few centuries from now all races will intermingle and
this is what we will soon look like. The video states that technically there is no such thing as race.
Race is a modern idea that was not used back when ancient societies were one. It is crazy to think
somehow we are all related. This idea that we have all originated in Africacame as a surprise
considering the physical differences between all the different cultures that came of the original one
in Africa. When you think about all that goes on in the world today and consider the hate that has

Gertrude And Ophelia And Hamlet Character Analysis
Imagine being told that you are loved, and then are treated like you are worth nothing. This is a
reality for the women in Hamlet written by William Shakespeare; Gertrude and Ophelia. Women in
the 1600s were seen as objects with no value and were only there for the convenience of the male
in their life. Gertrudeand Ophelia are the only two female characters in the play, and there are many
males in the play that treat them with disrespect. Hamletis the big offender of these two women in
the play. The relationship between Ophelia and Hamlet is confusing because it goes back and
forth, where Hamlet loves Ophelia, to where he never loved her, disrespecting her beyond
belief. Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, is married to Claudius, King Hamlet s brother, and this
frustrates Hamlet. Hamlet lashes out at Gertrude for this marriage, being mistreated by her own
son. In Hamlet, both main characters are portrayed as objects with little to no significance and
are treated with no respect by their male counterparts. Ophelia, Hamlet s lustful partner, is shown
the most disrespect throughout the play. Ophelia s whole life is centered around her father, and
the play allows Ophelia no mind of her own; instead it has her minding her father s precepts
(Johnson 111). This is supported by the text when she says, I do not know, my lord, what I
should think (1.3.113). She just tries to please her father. Ophelia admits to Polonius that she has
a relationship with Hamlet and he exclaims, In few, Ophelia,/ Do not believe his vows (1.3.135
136). He wants her to have nothing to do with Hamlet and she simply obeys. One things is clear to
her auditors, however: whatever she is saying, it relates to her father (Johnson 112). This is one of
many mistreatments she gets by men in the play. Hamlet and Ophelia are having a lustful
relationship where the lovebetween them is not mutual, where Ophelia loves him, but Hamlet
does not reciprocate. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia receives a letter from Hamlet which
says, Doubt thou the stars are fire,/ Doubt that the sun doth move,/ Doubt truth to be a liar,/ But
never doubt I love./ O dear Ophelia, I am ill at these numbers. I have not /art to reckon my groans,
but that I love

Into The Wild Transcendentalism
On September 6, 1992, a group of moose hunters discovered the remains of Chris McCandless
body, which, through abject starvation, had withered and decayed in the unforgiving Alaskan bush.
Upon discovery, Chris corpse became a symbol of misguided passions and misinterpreted values
and inspired many to explore and document his story of demise. In Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild,
the story of Chris, attempting to achieve ultimate freedom and independence is told. On this
journey, it is evident that Chris McCandless shunning of society was unjustified because he took
the transcendentalist ideas expressed in Henry David Thoreau s Walden and Ralph Waldo Emerson
s
Self Reliance and radically misinterpreted them. Because of his analytical error, McCandless was
unable to attain freedom and independence, despite his support for these values; egotism overcame
individualism, and McCandless hubris and extreme risk taking resulted in foolish isolationism and
rendered his journey useless. One of the central tenets of transcendentalism is the aspiration of
freedom and the desire to pursue a life of individualism. This is described in Self Reliance, where
Ralph Waldo Emerson states ... that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide... (1). Both envy and
imitation are parts of collectivism, and as such, cannot be well integrated into the philosophy of
transcendentalism, which has a deep contempt for society. At first, McCandless seems to satisfy the
mandate of individualistic pursuit,

Money and Power Don t Bring Happiness Essay
Abstract
Do people who live in more developed and wealthier countries find more happiness than people in
lesser developed countries? This paper analyzes the results of happiness between two sets of
countries that fall on opposite sides of the industrialization and democratization scale. The results
show that people between the two sets of countries are equally happy. It also shows that people in
both sets of countries also are equally likely to be happy when finding things like family or friends
important. As it turns out, happiness has little to do with GDP or wealth income of one s country.
In the second part of the study, happiness does not change much as a country industrializes. The

If a country has an abundance of one and a scarcity of another it is in their advantage to trade with
a country that has a scarcity of one and an abundance of the other. Under Ricardo s theory, all
countries would have relatively equal weath leading to his idea of the convergence theory. This
states that if countries follow his model of trade they will converge in wealth over time.
Unfortunately, Ricardo failed to understand the important role of research and development and
technology.
To make up for this omission, the strategic trade theory stresses those two things in its model of
development. The theory also stated that the convergence theory won t work because some
abundances are more competitive than others and with firms forming oligopolic power there is no
perfect competition. But even this theory has not been able to bring countries together.
Unfortunately today, countries are drifting apart in terms of wealth and are being separated along
the digital divide. Since the end of the second world war, government leaders from around the

Argumentative Essay On Foreign Aid
Introduction
Most people feel obligated to assist others in need. In major crises like natural disasters, wars,
medical outbreaks, and the struggling economies of the developing world, many citizens of
developed countries believe it is morally right to provide assistance in situations like these, in
response to being more fortunate. However according to Mark Goldberg, an editor of the United
Nations and global affairs blog UN Dispatch and host of the Global Dispatches Podcast,
discusses the truth behind foreign aid. He reveals that foreign support is an issue that is widely
misunderstood by the general public, and is one of the most complicated subjects. Foreign policy
has been under a huge debate and there is an obvious need for reformation, for it lacks clear
leadership and strategic planning. In fact political leaders are very skeptic about foreign policy,
and often find ways to push it back. What the citizens of first world should be inquiring, is foreign
aid actually what we think it is, or are the internal reasons of the politics reshaping its truth?
History of foreign aid, why is it what it is

The Hellenic And Hellenistic Renaissance
The Hellenic and Hellenistic shift was a turning point for Greek culture. The Hellenic are those
who lived in ancient Greece before Alexander the Great. The Hellenistics are those who lived in
the period after Alexander the Great s conquest. Alexander the Great was a mighty and strong
leader of the Greek people. The people that were under his following respected him greatly. We
can tell the drastic changes that occurred after Alexander Great was leader by the art,
philosophies, and religion. The Hellenistic Changes that occurred showed us that the Hellenistic
priorities transformed drastically from what the Hellenic ways were like. The Hellenic and
Hellenistic are greatly differentiated by the art that they created. Their art work showed their
own ideas of what the modern day person looked like in their eyes. When looking at the Hellenic
period of art we find that the Hellenic people displayed what they thought a perfect human
would look like. The Hellenic people thought the truth was in the beauty of the person. The
Hellenic display of art was what ideal beauty was to them. The people in the art looked very
healthy and muscular. In all reality the Hellenic people had less money than the Hellenistic people
put their artwork displayed their people in a rich and higher class way. The textbook says, art in
the Hellenistic Age declined noticeably from high standards of the preceding age ( World

Mental Health Issues For Asylum Seekers
The issue of asylum seekers recently was reignited, with the dramatic increase in the number of
illegal boats arriving in Australia. From the 30th of September 2013, there were a reported 6,403
people in closed detention, this number including 1,078 children. It is not surprising from these
high detention rates and poor living standards that between January 2011 and February 2013 that
there were 4,313 reported incidents of actual, threatened or attempted serious self harm in these
immigration detention facilities. From 12 deaths that occurred between the 1st of July 2010 and
the 20th of June 2013 6 of these have been found by coroners to be suicides (Triggs, 2013). These
statistics are incredibly alarming, especially when not much action is being taken to prevent not

Total Artificial Heart Ethical Dilemma
Since the mid 19th century, heart transplants have been been the best option for patients with heart

with more than 280 deaths a year. With the advancement of technology, the Total Artificial Heart
was created to replace a damaged heart if a transplant were unavailable. Although many people see
this as an alternate solution, there is debate over whether this is an ethical choice for the patient.
When considering the ethics of a Total Artificial Heart, many factors come into play including the
extraneous cost of the device, how it will affect the quality of the patient s life, and the overall
success of the device to last.
Since the Total Artificial Heart is a medical device that replaces such an important organof the

and make it as a dominate system and force its values and liberalism on other countries. These
kinds of attempt were tried in Vietnam back in the 60 s, when the United Statestried to enforce its

Western values and culture is the second invasion of Iraq in 2001, The united states tried to make
Iraq a democratic entity. As Fukuyama claimed, the traditional existence of civilizations is

Advantages Of Predictive Policing
Can Predictive Policing Benefit Society?
According to Times Magazine, President Donald Trump signed three executive orders that will
intensify the criminalization of communities of color, under the false premise the need to increase
law and order. Racism was bad before Trump, now it has worsened, is there anything else that
could make things worse? In Police Program Aims to Pinpoint Those Most Likely To Commit
Crimes by John Eligon and Timothy Williams it states that predictive policing is using math and
police awareness to stop or prevent crimes from happening. ...An experiment taking place in
dozens of police departments across the country, one in which authorities have turned to complex
computer algorithms to try to pinpoint people most likely to be involved in future crimes (Eligon

happening based on data. There are benefits and disadvantages that predictive policing contain.
When looking at the issue of predictive policing, many might argue that predictive policing is
beneficial because it can reduce crime rates and prevent deaths from happening through the use of

guilty of whom you associate with and the use of inaccurate data leads to unfair policing.

The Luxor Temple And Saint Peter s Basilica
I.OVERVIEW
The two pieces of art that I have chosen to compare are The Luxor Temple located in Luxor,
Egypt and Saint Peter s Basilica located within Vatican City of Rome, Italy. The ancient design has
fostered some of its styles and characteristics into future generations, and also upheld the mysteries
of phenomenal architecture over the centuries. I believe the Luxor Temple and Saint Peter s
Basilica are good pieces for comparison. The details and the architectural features between both of
these great Arts show ingenuity, symmetry, geometry and balance from two very diverse time
periods. The aspects of their values, religious beliefs, culture, and mythology play key roles in the
beliefs of both timepieces of Art. The architectural medium is not only impressive, but it is
captivating to the eye as well. One can only marvel at the unique wonders of ancient civilization.

Themes Of The Book Thief
The Book Thief is set in the time of World War 2 where the Holocaust is present and disaster is
everywhere. Throughout the story, Liesel, the main character, learns that words are extremely
powerful and hold the ability for people to use them for good or for evil. Among the disaster and
altercations, Liesel uses her literature to comfort her and make herself more powerful due to
her knowledge, which demonstrates the theme of the story, the comfort and power of literature
and words softens the pain of loss. Liesel, the book thief herself, steals books in times of pain.
All six books Liesel steals are metaphors for the feelings of loss and pain during the time of
which the book was stolen. She uses the books to grow knowledge of the situations occurring
around her, one stolen book in particular is The Gravedigger s Handbook This book is the first of
all books Liesel steals, and it is the book that caused her to grow to love words, coincidently, she
finds this book in the snow on the day of her brother s death, which is when she was filled with
grief and abandonment. This book is a symbol for Liesel s grief and as she tries to learn how to
read the book, her twisted comfort in the story shows how the words had a powerful effect on her
grieving process shown by the quotation, ...Not to mention the morbidity of the subject. As for the
girl, there was a sudden desire to read it that she didn t even attempt to understand (Zusak, 66) The
idea of the power in

Wuthering Heights and Northanger Abbey as Gothic Novels...
While on the vigorous journey through a novel, a reader can be faced with many questions, put
forth intentionally by the author, as well as ones they might conjure up for themselves. Roland
Barthes says Literature is the question minus the answer. For the most part this is true, however
when one is reading for leisure or the author does not portray as well as they could this statement is
invalid. Two novels that have been broken down recently are Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heightsand
Jane Austens Northanger Abbey. Neither book has a common central question, but they both have
their pros and cons. Wuthering Heights is a book containing an intricate plot, and a labyrinth of
relationships and emotions. The characterization in this book... Show more content on

Again, maybe, however, the reader does see Heathcliff as the underbelly of the human race, the
epitome of humanity. This underbelly is predominately seen in Heathcliff s relationship with
Isabella. We remember that when Isabella is first introduced to us, Heathcliff makes fun of her
and her brother for fighting over something so insignificant as a dog, to the reader, the two
Linton children are as normal as the era permitted. Yet Heathcliff destroys her, she ensures this
to us by saying I gave [Heathcliff] my heart, and he took and pinched it to death and flung it
back at me. People feel with their hearts, Ellen, and since he has destroyed mine I have not the
power to feel for him and here Isabella began to cry, but immediately dashing the water from her
lashes recommenced.... (170). Not only does Isabella say that she is broken by these turn of
events, but the fact that she does not let herself cry is another indication of severe emotional
distress. The worse part of this is whole ordeal is that Heathcliff enjoys it. He says much later on in
the book that I have lost the faculty of enjoying their destruction... (312) this implies that at one
time he did enjoy destruction of others.
Different people have tried to argue that Heathcliff is the way he is because of the distance
between him and his dead lover Catherine. However the reader must take under consideration the
cause of Catherine s death. The

Arete In The Golden Age ) Art, Architecture And Art
The concept of aretГ© in Classical Greek (AKA Golden Age) art, architecture, or thought wc. 249
Arete is an ancient Greek term that describes a man s effectiveness at reaching his full potential
and quality of being best. The arete of something is the highest quality state it can reach. Using
arete as a principle for living life means that you are focused on the quality of everything you do
and experience. Take actions that focus on arete and avoid actions that lack arete. The Golden age
is typically defined as a time of great prosperity and learning. Significant contributions by
philosophers, scholars, and politicians created advancements in thought, art, technology, literature,
and science. As a result, society experienced a period of great excellence and virtue that is still seen
today. Art and architecture during the golden age emphasized the accomplishments of human
beings. Although most art and architecture were meant to commemorate the gods, they were
created in the image of people. Sculpting was a huge influence during this time, artists began to
sculpt people in more relaxed postures with more defined features. The sculptures were meant to
create lifelike images of near perfection like the statue of Zeus at Olympia and the statue of Athena
at Parthenos. The architecture was intertwined with their art detailed and to perfection to the human
eye. A big part of their architecture was the column that can be seen in more infrastructure, like the
Parthenon. Three types

Moral Skepticism About Mental Disorders
Jason Perrin Phil/Psy 345 Moral Skepticism Final Draft December 2, 2014 Moral Skepticism
about Mental Disorders The existence of mental disorders, while taken for granted by most
people, is disputed by moral skeptics. Moral skepticism is the view that mental disorders do not
exist and that it is wrong to label someone as having a mental disorder. In his book, The
Disordered Mind, George Graham discusses moral skepticism at great length and offers his
contrasting viewpoint. In this essay, I will discuss Graham s view of moral skepticism and
contrast that with the views of one of moral skepticism s greatest proponents, Thomas Szasz. I
will also elaborate on my own personal views of moral skepticism in an attempt to unify these two
opposing theories of mental disorder. Moral antirealism/skepticism, as a concept of mental
disorder, is dismissed but not totally rejected by George Graham, as he does concede that there
might be lessons to be learned from it. The moral antirealist subscribes to the belief that no
condition should be labeled as a mental disorder. They might agree that someone is experiencing an
unwelcome condition, that may or may not require outside assistance to overcome, but that does
not mean they have a disorder or illness. They believe that in order to help someone suffering from
a mental disturbance and to treat them with the most respect, we need to replace the concept of
mental disorder with something less stigmatizing. Graham disagrees with this

  • 3. Essay on The Football Game The Football Game In the beginning, there was football. The official said, Let the stadium lights come on, and they came on. The football players came onto the field, and they saw the light was good. Other teams started to show up and practice on the battle ground, otherwise known as the playing field. Fans shouted, and cheerleaders went on about their playful acts. Parents, brothers, sisters, and close friends all piled into the stands to see the game of the year. The official stepped out onto the moist grass at Williams Stadium in Plano, Texas. The time was seven o clock p.m. on a Thursday night. He paused for a moment, looked at his stopwatch, and blew his whistle. Gigantic muscular men came from out of nowhere as the fans began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The kick off approached for both teams, almost instantaneously. Memories of past football games, and practices were rushing through our heads. The time clock read fifteen minutes even; time outs were at three a piece, and it was the first quarter. Suddenly, a whistle blew, and brown bundle of pigskin went flying into the air. Running to the ball, one of the Clark Cougars quickly caught the football, stepped left, then to the right, covering positive yardage. Soon after, the ball carrier was brought down by a pack of Warriors, and the ball was first down for the Cougars. I had been waiting for this moment all of my life. The match up of the century was about to begin. The Clark Cougars have lost 14 years straight to the Warriors. Coaches only daydreamed of beating the undefeated Warriors. As the quarterback called the play, I smiled with joy. The first play of the game was to me. I played running back for the team, so I was going to run the ball. First play, up the middle of the field, I ran for a fifteen yard gain. The next play was to one of my fellow team mates, which he also ran for another large gain of 26 yards. I could not believe my eyes. After all these years, the game was finally here. We, as a team, were slowly tearing apart the Warrior s defense. Our offense was dominating the ball, and they could not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Characteristics Of Magnet Schools Magnet schools are a fantastic idea when viewed from a large spectrum, however the system remains slightly skewed. Northern Hartford is 80% Black and Latino. Many of the students that attend magnet schools represent these ethnicities. However, there are still parents searching for a better academic option for their children as they attend the inner city public schools that exemplify all of the characteristics discussed before: poor educators, run down buildings, and merely an inadequate quality of education. These parents try very hard to enroll their children into the magnet schools, but unfortunately, 50% of these ethnic children are on a waitlist. Once again, white children are prioritized. Officials of these magnet schools go out of their way to seek out white children to attend these magnet schools in order to meet the quota, and yes, it creates a diverse environment, but these white children, again, are given additional opportunities. If a white child and his or her parent do not like the magnet school, they can easily attend their neighborhood school which is usually highly accredited. On the contrary, for Black and Latino children of Northern Hartford, the magnet school is their one and only opportunity to escape the inadequate, segregated, public school system, and yet, these children are the ones on the waitlist. Overall, magnet schools provide an opportunity for success to children of all ethnicities. It exposes them to diversity and broadens their views of greater society. Children are likely to perform well due to the extensive resources provided in these magnet schools such as the vivarium and planetarium in the magnet school for environmental sciences. Not only is it beneficial for the children, but it demonstrates to parents who grew up in white, suburban, areas with one or two black children that diversity is good, that these children are just like any others but with a different skin tone. Integration aids in ridding the idea of racism and stereotypes. Ultimately, it is the solution for a myriad of societal issues. In the establishment of magnet schools, the existing diversity exemplifies symbolic interactionism between the children. Through their interactions, each student is ... It is commonly believed that faults are flaws or weaknesses; however, this is not necessarily true. What if a fault was viewed simply as a difference or even a hidden strength rather than an imperfection. Madeleine L Engles classic novel A Wrinkle in Timeprovides us many examples how personal faults can be our greatest strengths. This is not only demonstrated throughout the book, but it is seen in the modern day movie as well. The novel and film both show the power of faults, but the book emphasizes the theory in more detail than the movie. To prove faults are strengths, first the book must be analyzed. By Mrs. Whatsit granting Meg with greater faults (L Engle 112), she is actually providing her with greater strength. does not immediately realize how this is possible. My faults! But I m always trying to get rid of my faults (L Engle 112). The book details how Meg learns her faults are her greatest strengths and this theme continues throughout the story. Introduction Rao and Cartledge (2009) reported that minority and economically disadvantaged children have difficulty in reading comprehension. Reading comprehension is a skill that is used inside and outside of the classroom, which means it should be effectively taught. Matching Donors and Patients Finding a potential donor involves matching the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) tissue. These antigens are on the surface of special white blood cells. The HLA tissue determines the genetic makeup of a person s immune system (The Johns Hopkins University, para. 11). Doctors try to minimize the possible side effects of BMTs by using donor stem cells that match the patients as closely as possible. The overall success of a BMT depends on how closely the match between donor and patient was. Less than one third of patients will have a matched sibling; siblings are often the closest matches. In about one half of the cases it is possible to find an unrelated, matched donor. • 25. The Causes And Impacts Of Transnational Corporations Transnational Corporations (TNCs), also known as Multinational corporations (MNCs), are businesses that have subsidiaries in at least one other state other than their home state (Jackson, 2013) Due to their reach they have a fairly significant role on global politics. They control the mass of the economy and GDP of many states, place pressure on policy makers through their decisions and influence the decisions of citizens through media. They, however, would not be able to function without the rules and economic control states have to create a market place and media channels. This limits their power to an extent but they still retain a position of power within the global political scene. TNCs have had a massive growth post World War II with America dominating the international market well into the 1960 s until Europe and Japan began to compete against them. In the modern global market changes in political regimes and ideologies have allowed for a diverse market with Eastern Europe and many other Asian countries finding their way in. China has made itself a super power in international trade, manufacturing and export due to the cheap costs. Many Transnational corporations have more worth than some states with Wal Mart being worth more than Israel, Poland and many others. • 28. Gertrude And Ophelia And Hamlet Character Analysis Imagine being told that you are loved, and then are treated like you are worth nothing. This is a reality for the women in Hamlet written by William Shakespeare; Gertrude and Ophelia. Women in the 1600s were seen as objects with no value and were only there for the convenience of the male in their life. Gertrudeand Ophelia are the only two female characters in the play, and there are many males in the play that treat them with disrespect. Hamletis the big offender of these two women in the play. The relationship between Ophelia and Hamlet is confusing because it goes back and forth, where Hamlet loves Ophelia, to where he never loved her, disrespecting her beyond belief. Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, is married to Claudius, King Hamlet s brother, and this frustrates Hamlet. Hamlet lashes out at Gertrude for this marriage, being mistreated by her own son. In Hamlet, both main characters are portrayed as objects with little to no significance and are treated with no respect by their male counterparts. Ophelia, Hamlet s lustful partner, is shown the most disrespect throughout the play. Ophelia s whole life is centered around her father, and the play allows Ophelia no mind of her own; instead it has her minding her father s precepts (Johnson 111). This is supported by the text when she says, I do not know, my lord, what I should think (1.3.113). She just tries to please her father. Ophelia admits to Polonius that she has a relationship with Hamlet and he exclaims, In few, Ophelia,/ Do not believe his vows (1.3.135 136). He wants her to have nothing to do with Hamlet and she simply obeys. One things is clear to her auditors, however: whatever she is saying, it relates to her father (Johnson 112). This is one of many mistreatments she gets by men in the play. Hamlet and Ophelia are having a lustful relationship where the lovebetween them is not mutual, where Ophelia loves him, but Hamlet does not reciprocate. In the beginning of the play, Ophelia receives a letter from Hamlet which says, Doubt thou the stars are fire,/ Doubt that the sun doth move,/ Doubt truth to be a liar,/ But never doubt I love./ O dear Ophelia, I am ill at these numbers. Into The Wild Transcendentalism On September 6, 1992, a group of moose hunters discovered the remains of Chris McCandless body, which, through abject starvation, had withered and decayed in the unforgiving Alaskan bush. Upon discovery, Chris corpse became a symbol of misguided passions and misinterpreted values and inspired many to explore and document his story of demise. In Jon Krakauer s Into the Wild, the story of Chris, attempting to achieve ultimate freedom and independence is told. On this journey, it is evident that Chris McCandless shunning of society was unjustified because he took the transcendentalist ideas expressed in Henry David Thoreau s Walden and Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance and radically misinterpreted them. Because of his analytical error, McCandless was unable to attain freedom and independence, despite his support for these values; egotism overcame individualism, and McCandless hubris and extreme risk taking resulted in foolish isolationism and rendered his journey useless. One of the central tenets of transcendentalism is the aspiration of freedom and the desire to pursue a life of individualism. This is described in Self Reliance, where Ralph Waldo Emerson states ... that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide... (1). Both envy and imitation are parts of collectivism, and as such, cannot be well integrated into the philosophy of transcendentalism, which has a deep contempt for society. At first, McCandless seems to satisfy the mandate of individualistic pursuit, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Hellenic are those who lived in ancient Greece before Alexander the Great. The Hellenistics are those who lived in the period after Alexander the Great s conquest. Alexander the Great was a mighty and strong leader of the Greek people. The people that were under his following respected him greatly. We can tell the drastic changes that occurred after Alexander Great was leader by the art, philosophies, and religion. The Hellenistic Changes that occurred showed us that the Hellenistic priorities transformed drastically from what the Hellenic ways were like. The Hellenic and Hellenistic are greatly differentiated by the art that they created. Their art work showed their own ideas of what the modern day person looked like in their eyes. When looking at the Hellenic period of art we find that the Hellenic people displayed what they thought a perfect human would look like. The Hellenic people thought the truth was in the beauty of the person. The Hellenic display of art was what ideal beauty was to them. The people in the art looked very healthy and muscular. In all reality the Hellenic people had less money than the Hellenistic people put their artwork displayed their people in a rich and higher class way. • 44. Moral Skepticism About Mental Disorders Jason Perrin Phil/Psy 345 Moral Skepticism Final Draft December 2, 2014 Moral Skepticism about Mental Disorders The existence of mental disorders, while taken for granted by most people, is disputed by moral skeptics. Moral skepticism is the view that mental disorders do not exist and that it is wrong to label someone as having a mental disorder. In his book, The Disordered Mind, George Graham discusses moral skepticism at great length and offers his contrasting viewpoint. In this essay, I will discuss Graham s view of moral skepticism and contrast that with the views of one of moral skepticism s greatest proponents, Thomas Szasz. I will also elaborate on my own personal views of moral skepticism in an attempt to unify these two opposing theories of mental disorder. Moral antirealism/skepticism, as a concept of mental disorder, is dismissed but not totally rejected by George Graham, as he does concede that there might be lessons to be learned from it. The moral antirealist subscribes to the belief that no condition should be labeled as a mental disorder. They might agree that someone is experiencing an unwelcome condition, that may or may not require outside assistance to overcome, but that does not mean they have a disorder or illness. They believe that in order to help someone suffering from a mental disturbance and to treat them with the most respect, we need to replace the concept of mental disorder with something less stigmatizing. Graham disagrees with this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
