Small Ensembles Concert Report
On April 26th, I attended the College of Liberal Arts Department of Performance Studies
presenting there Small Ensembles Concert. The performance began at 7:30 at Our Saviour s
Lutheran Church and the ensemble was coached by David Wilborn. The ensemble included a
variety of brass including; a horn trio, a brass trio, a trombone and tape, and a trombone choir.
The performers were talented, but I did not care for the pieces that were chosen for the concert.
The first piece is called Trio in E Flat Major Op. 40 originally by Johannes Brahms and it is
performed by the horn trio. The three instruments played are violin played by Hector Vera, horn
played by Megan Simmons, and paint played by David Wilborn the conductor. This piece begins

The ten person trombone choir stays on the stage to perform this piece, and the inspiration
behind this piece is for his mother. The seventh and final piece is called Now The Powers of
Heaven by Alexander Sheremetiev. This piece is performed once again by the ten person
trombone choir. There is another piece on the program titled San Gabriel by David Wilborn the
conductor but it is never played, making Now The Powers of Heaven under the pressure of a
finale piece. This concert overall was interesting and entertaining. The way that the ensemble is
split into trios and groups and the short and plentiful songs provide a refreshing change
continuously giving the audience a chance to hear different play styles. The only critique I have
of the pieces is that at times they had a disorganized sound that I did not recognize as pleasant to
listen to. The emotion I was able to leave with was a lightened mood, but I did not have any deep
emotional connection to the music. My favorite piece of the night was The Obstinate because of
the amazing french horn solo that is played halfway through and leads into the conclusion of the
song. The style of this concert was new to me and I enjoyed becoming a part of a musical era and
style that is not something that I would typically indulge in. The art behind these pieces was shown

My Greatest Memories Of Literacy In My Life
As a child, I remember sitting in my shared bedroom with my oldest sister on the bunk
underneath me, and learning how to read with my leap frog. To me it felt like a toy, but there
were mini books you would place in it and you simply picked up the stylus and touched words
and pictures. As you touched the designated items the speaker would say the words, and play
music sometimes related. My literacy would have been dependent on the educational
opportunities around me, and how wealthy the area was I went to school in, but my mother
always made sure I had what I needed to succeed, lik the leap frog for example. This is my
earliest memory of literacy in my life. My kindergarten teachers were Ms.Tempest and
Ms.Hawkins, I was in their morning class. I vaguely recall writing in this class, but I remember
reading a lot. My family moved quite frequently due to my father being in the Navy so we ended
up in Virginia Beach and I attended Green Run Elementary school. This was not a nice area to
grow up in. My sisters, and I were not allowed outside without my parents ever. I think the area
we were in impacted the literacy in my school. We didn t have as many opportunities as other
schools did. My mother always took it upon herself to read to me before bed though, I think she
knew my educationwas sub par,but she didn t want my future to be affected by that. We read every

The question Can man live without God? is interesting because most people would argue that it
depends on worldview. However through a careful analysis of The Scarlet Letter and Ravi
Zacharias book Can Man Live Without God a definitive answer can be concluded. The depiction
of God s role in The Scarlet Letter, the antitheistic worldview described in Can Man Live Without
God, and a look into how God affects life today will provide more than satisfactory information to
conclude that man cannot live without God.
The Scarlet Letter is a brilliant novel depicting the life of Hester Prynne after having an affair with
a local reverend. Hester Prynne, at first ravenous and distraught in her jail cell, soon overcomes

white swan and the seductive black swan. While she is the perfect representation of the white
