World Hunger Rhetorical Analysis
World Hunger Hunger is a problem and crisis found worldwide. Hunger does not just affect one
specific race or group of people but a variety of people throughout the world. People don t expect
to go hungry and one can never predict if this will be a problem for them. Going hungry can
happen to anyone and at the time least expected. Have you ever wondered what it is like to not
know when your next meal will be? What about not knowing how to provide enough food to feed
your family? Not everyone thinks of these questions, as some are oblivious to these ongoing
problems related to hunger.

Personal Qualities Of Entrepreneurs
There are basically three personal qualities of entrepreneurs. It should be known that the personal
qualities of the entrepreneurs alone cannot guarantee success and therefore the, seven personal

Here the entrepreneur is involved in every aspect of the business, ranging from staff
communications, customer relationships and up to the supplier and always sees that all the
interactions with all stakeholders yields good positive results which will make his business a

Entrepreneurs are the people who are not afraid of taking chances though knowing that the chances
might be bad, but nonetheless they are always positive and hope for the best. The risks they take

Entrepreneurs always make efforts to cultivate good relationships with people in general, with the
hope that one day these people might be their clients. They always make good relationship with
their staff although there are those who are always indifferent to their employees, and tend to
exploit them. They have good relations with clients, see human relations as an important resource

The Executive s And Outliers Were Red Flags For The Enron...
Enron was facing risks, risks from every angle. You can see from the history to the demise of the
company everything was based on risk. Even when it came to the personal lives of those in
charge, you can find some type of risk. Being a Houston native, I did not quite understand the
reaction to Enron. I did not understand why it went so far as to changing the name of a stadium
from Enronto Minute Maid Park. I was only a teen at the time, but now I am not. I now hope to
explain my opinion on how the past, the executive s and outliers were red flags prior to the Enron
crisis. My thoughts on how they could have handled the matter. Lastly, express what I would have
done if I was an executive or general council to such a company.
Above I stated that risks were everywhere in the case of Enron. The custom is that in order to
stay in business one must take a risk. I agree that this is essential when done with good intentions
and business practices. This is something that lacked in Enron before the bigger crisis emerged.
The first red flag for me would have been the Valhalla Scandal . This showed the true character
and intentions of Kenny Lay. Which were to get as much money as he could no matter the
legality of the practices and who suffers. This shows that some of the risks taken by Lay were not
the best, for his company or employees. Since the employee was doing the illegal work, and
producing funding. The employee is also who ended up in jail.

Unit 3 Assignment 1 User Authentication
User authentication
With the rapid increase in the number of attempted breaches and resulting damages, there is an
increased need for user authentication, especially with numerous unknown mobile devices with
which consumers are using to access to IT resources.
Users of these mobile devices can be authenticated by the use of passwords or hardware token
devices and both password and hardware one time password (OTP) in most cases. Generally,
while the use of passwords are inexpensive, they are thought to be a relatively insecure form of
security. Hardware OTPs, on the other hand, tend to be a more secure form of security, but are
more expensive and may also be susceptible to more advanced attacks, such as the man in the

kinds of new scenarios for business data to go missing, be shared with others, or be stolen. You

Every organization must have adequate control mechanisms in place to help protect sensitive

Huntington s Disease Study
Huntington s disease, or HD, is a genetic neuro generative condition that is characterized by
progressive dysfunction in motor, cognitive and behavioral abilities. There are about 4 10 cases per
100,000 throughout the world, which makes it one of the most prevalent genetic neuro generative
disorders. Huntington s disease is a dominant gene mutation that occurs in the huntingtin gene. The
result is an excessive repeat of the nucleotide triad cytosine adenine guanine (CAG) and causes
damage to neurons. The striatum of the brainand the cerebral cortex are most affected by the gene
but other parts of the brain atrophy as well. Typically, onset begins around the 4th decade of life

compared the metabolic profiles of pre manifest, manifest HD and control groups. The results
showed that amylin and ghrelin levels were significantly increased in all HD subjects compared to
the control group. The increase in ghrelin, an appetite stimulant, and amylin, an appetite
suppressant, demonstrates the numerous abnormalities regarding regulation of food ingestion and
absorption (Wang et al., 2014).
Another abnormality observed was a significant decrease in glucagon in the manifest HD group
compared to the control group. Glucagon plays a major role in upholding normal metabolism in
the body. It also acts as a protective agent by reducing the neurotoxic glutamate. Therefore, a
decrease in glucagon can play a significant part in the pathogenesis of Huntington s disease (Wang
et al., 2014).
Adiponectin is a hormone that is released from adipose tissue and is negatively correlated with
Body Mass Index. In HD subjects, this correlation was not significant. Decreased adiponectin
levels is usually linked with obesity and insulin resistance. These changes suggest that irregular
adipocyte function is associated with the metabolic changes in the pathophysiology of Huntington
s disease. Prolactin and total cholesterol levels were also decreased in all HD subjects and
showed erratic levels of leptin. This is likely due to impaired food digestion and absorption, which
is also supported by the increased amylin levels. Essentially, the study s findings show that HD
patients have a decreased ability to maintain metabolic homeostasis and abnormal hormone levels

achieve her goal of marrying a rich husband and have means to permanently not live a dingy life,
but a problem exists this life does not make her happy. She still pursues her goal anyway and

In the end, however, due to a terrible rumor Lily ends up being excluded from society and

wrong goals, but does she really deserve this fate? Despite her faults Lily, the protagonist in Edith

Selden had been children. Their parents raised them to believe in two completely different
philosophies with Selden despising money and Lily cherishing it. This contrast in philosophy
becomes a major trouble later on with Lily not being able to marry Selden due to her desire for
money and being incapable of living without it (162), and Selden judging Lily for her love of
money. These differing views along with society s judgment eventually cause the tragic ending.
Both parties cannot entirely give up their philosophies. When they finally do resolve their conflict,
the time has already past. They also have terrible timing as many other fated couples have. Just as

Ridley Scott s gladiator recreates the entire world of ancient Rome in living glory on the screen.
The shots of coliseum, intact and swarming with crowds of spectators are breath taking. The story
has a classic three act structure, moving Maximus, Decimus and Meridius from warrior to slave to
gladiator and each step is incredibly exciting. In addition, Scott stages half a dozen elaborate action

The second camera shot I have chosen is when there is a close up on Maximum s face which is
looking at the robin. The robin demonstrates us Maximus s love for nature which proves that he
freedom fighter. The third scene I have selected is when Maximus is walking down his army and
every one is greeting him. This demonstrates us that maximus has a high reputation and is
someone who is looked up to. This also illustrates the love and affection for maximus from his
soldiers and even by animals as the dog was following him when the war was about to begin. The
last scene I have chosen is when there is a slow motion when the Romans had won the war. This
connotes the supremacy and authority they had during these times.
The main character of this motion picture is Maximus. Throughout the film, the audience sees his
loving character, his love for Rome and his fellow Gladiators, and love for his wife and kid.
Secondly, Maximus is physically strong and this enables him to win every battle he fights in. The
actor Russell Crowe developed a muscle physique and especially in the violent combat scenes
director Ridley Scott uses close ups of his muscular body. By doing this he ensures we link
Maximus with strength and agility. Because of this, he is seen as the hero. Maximus always played

Essay on Progression Of Islamic Art
There exist three basic components of traditional Islamic art: calligraphy, geometric patterns, and
floral and vegetal motifs. These three stylistic tools are beautifully rendered and masterfully
integrated into complex works of art, but there is no question that artistic expression is severely
limited under these categorizations. However, this limitation stems from Islamictheology and
concept of art. The main reasonfor the limitation imposed on visual art is the Islamic theological
prohibition of figural imagery. Social laws presented in the Hadith prevented the representation of
figures because any imitationwas deemed idolatrous. Also, art is considered to be decorative and
imitative. Script and patterns are used to decorate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The miniatures serve the traditional Islamic functions of art of ornamentation and imitation. Oddly
enough, the miniatures are second imitations; they are the imitation of the scribed words, which in
turn imitate the actual legendary event. The Arabic words are the most important artistic
representation of the page. The word is the substance of the book; the attached miniatures are
merely pictorial representations of the written story. This subjugation of the picture to the word is
physically demonstrated, for the text on the page, in the same fashion of all the pages in the
Shahnama, is placed above the miniature. This placement has theological implications. In Islam,
Arabic text is considered the literal word of God for the Qur an was revealed in Arabic. So, if the
word of Allah is reflected in the symbols of Arabic script, then symbolically Allah is manifested in
the text. This is consistent within popular Islamic thought. Walter Denny writes that objects were
decorated with sacred script for it was thought to invoke good wishes on the owners of pottery and
metalwork, and kept the evil eye from thresholds and hearths. Consequently, Allah is present in the
Sufarai miniature not through a figural image, for that would extremely blasphemous, but through
the written text. This is similar to the western tradition of using mysterious or divine light to
represent God without a

ABSTRACT
The aim of the present study is to formulate a dual therapy of peptic ulcer containing antimicrobial
agent amoxicillin and anti secretory agent pantoprazole, utilizing the concept of bi layer tablet
system for the effective treatment of H. pylori associated gastric/duodenal ulcer, in an attempt to
improve bioavailability and to get maximum therapeutic benefits and patient compliance about
the treatment. Different formulas of 575 mg amoxicillin were prepared as sustained release
layer by wet granulation method and different formulas of 40 mg pantoprazole in form of
immeadeaye release was prepared as extended release matrix layer by direct compression
technique. The results showed that formulas prepared with Hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose
(HPMC K100M) and xanthan gum and acasia as binder was capable to retard the release of
Amoxicillin and Pantoprazole for 12 hr and 8hr respectably which according to dosing
frequency of amoxicillin in treatment of peptic ulcer (twice daily) it will prevent drug free
interval so achieve complete eradication of H. pylori, thus it was selected for preparation of bi layer

Identity In Fantomina
How can you know who you really are if you are confined to a certain few social structures of
identity? A woman may be smarter, be able to do what a man can do, but everything from a job,
consisting of nannies to maids, or to her own sexuality, staying chaste till marriage, is under sharp
scrutiny. Sexuality is a hallmark theme of many novels even in the 18th century. Whether it be the
main plot of a story or one of the various subplots. In the stories Roxana and Fantomina the main
characters identities seem to be in control by using their sexuality to their own ends. These women
go nameless in their own stories, so do they truly stay within the confines of their sex of the 18th
century? Being nameless and going by an assumed identity... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Like Roxana she is using her sexuality and freedom to gain what she wants from life. Unlike
Roxana Fantomina s freedom is fleeting and only comes from lack of supervision. She was
intrigued by the freedom and sexuality showed of the prostitutes at the play house. the greater
was her Wonder, that Men, some of whom she knew were accounted to have Wit, should have
Tastes so very depraved. This excited a Curiosity in her to know in what Manner these Creatures

for, she had just wanted the attention of men falling all over themselves to talk to her.
Fantomina is a lady of high standing, and men followed the rules and protocols to woo a lady
but not a prostitute. She depended on the strength of her virtue, to bear her safe thro trials more
dangerous than she apprehended this to be, and never having been addressed by him as a lady
was resolved to receive his devoirs as a town mistress, imagining a world of satisfaction to
herself in engaging him in the character of such a one, and in observing the surprise he would
be in to find himself refused by a woman who he supposed granted her favors without exception.
This passage shows that she never meant to give into sexual activity with him, also making it
clear that she is a woman who planned on protecting her chastity and virtue. This makes
Fantomina more sympathetic to the readers, who would judge a woman for giving into sexual
desires. The story however shows how even a high class lady who is expected to be able to
maintain her self control can be seduced by the idea of pleasure and freedom. An escape from her
restrictive identity. She had gone too far to retreat he was bold, he was resolute, she fearful

Inherit The Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee
Every man has opinions, some which are stronger than others, but do these thoughts define the
man? In Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee s play Inherit The Wind opinions do not define the
people who advocate them. Each character in this play has viewpoints that influence their
actions. The bravery, honesty and determination required to express an opinion defines a person
more than the opinion, allowing one to respect a man who advocates unpopular opinions. When
a man stands up for his beliefs despite their unpopularity, he exemplifies great bravery. While
Bertram Cates may not have been the most brave man when the trial began, he later addresses
the courtroom by saying, I feel I am... I have been convicted of violating an unjust law. I will
continue in the future, as I have in the past, to oppose this law in any way I can, (115). Bert
bravely states his point of view in his speech and makes it clear that he stands behind Darwinism.
While picking the jury members, Drummond [objects] to all [the] Colonel talk, (42) because he
believes it interferes with a fair trial. In addition to annoying Brady, Drummond objects to the title
because he is brave enough to stand up to what he thinks is unjust. On a more general note,
Drummond had the braveryto go to Hillsboro as the defense attorney for Bert even though winning
the case was nearly impossible and there was no pay. Although their opinions were not popular in
the play, Bert and Drummond show great bravery by standing up for

The effect of this ludicrous act reminds me of the story of the boy who cried wolf. It was a story of
a young shepherd whose lies brought about his downfall. The young boy was very protective of
his herd and so people of the village told him that at the sight of a wolf trying to attack his sheep
that he should cry wolf. At first the young shepherd puts his alarm to a test by falsely crying
wolf. The villagers came running to his aide only to find that the boy was trifling with them. The
second time he cries, wolf! Wolf! and the villagers once again came running and the boy laughs.
However, the third time the young shepherd spots a real wolf, he cried, wolf! Wolf! but this time
in his disappointment nobody came running to his rescue. When Mr. Glass was caught in his lies,
his career as he knew it, was flushed down the commode. So you see, lying in fact does come back
to bite that chunk out of your cheek
Finally, after Mr. Glass was fired he had nothing to fall back on except to continue his education at
the law schools he attends most evenings. All because of numerous lies and cover ups. In contrast
to this, Bill Clinton, our former President lied about his affairs with the Monica Lewinsky, an Intern

To change Columbus Day to no longer be a holiday would be turning a blind eye to a difficult

of you to celebrate Columbus Day, learn the full history, including the wrong doings of
Columbus and his crew, and celebrate the good change brought about by this event that
ultimately led to the lifestyle you lead today. If the wrongs of every event in history were to be

moment in history, and then think why we have not excluded that from our celebrations. I believe

Even when we look at something in a holiday that isn t negative, like the Christmas tree, which
there aren t conifers in Jerusalem, it shows how much our holidays can be skewed from a
tradition which was originally practiced. Even the other holidays honoring great men can have a
darker side. MLK day for example; Martin Luther King, or Michael Luther King, was under
scrutiny because his doctorate had blatant plagiarism, also his I Have a Dream speech was
plagiarized from a pastor from his church he attended. This shows that history and the light we view
people in can be skewed to retain the honor or the pomp and circumstance that comes with
remembering the good brought about by their achievements.
Beyond the fact that Columbus was not the first person to discover the Americas, he was the man
that brought about European civilization to America and their fascination with conquering a new

Atomic Theory And The Study Of Matter
Atomic Theory and the Study of Matter Matter is anything made up of atoms and molecules and
the study of these things called atoms dates back to the time of Ancient Greece to the present. The
information about atoms known today is certainly much greater than what was known centuries
ago. First, there was only hypotheses on this idea that everything in the world is made up of tiny,
unseeable particles. As technology advanced, these hypotheses were tested, critiqued, modified, and
built upon. A mass of knowledge is known regarding atoms, thanks to the research of numerous
chemists and physicists. The atomic theory is the building block to the study of matter just as the
atomis the building block to all matter. Around 400 BCE was when the Greek philosopher
Democritus, alone with his teacher Leucippus, the idea of the atom was born (the word atom
comes from the Greek word atomos or atomon meaning that which cannot be split ). This was a
completely new concept, and Democritus s theory stated that atoms were indestructible and
homogenous, and different states of matter were made up of differently shaped atoms: solids had
sharp and pointy atoms and liquids had large round atoms. Later these ideas would be proved
inaccurate, however, this was the beginning of the discovery of the atom even though the people of
this time had no instruments capable of testing the theory. It was not until centuries later that the
atomic theory was truly looked at again. In 1803 an English

Smith Roland Project Case Study
Smith Roland Project: Communication Barriers
The Smith Roland Project will be underway soon and we need to have a plan for communication
differences and barriers for our teams in South Carolina, Texas, and Portland. We need to be sure
that communications are sent and received while keeping our communication differences in mind.
As the project manager for this project, here is my plan to address communication barriers for our
team and to keep communication flowing in a positive way.
PHYSICAL
The first and most obvious barrier to effective communication is the physical barrier. With our team
split into three different locations, the physical distance can lead to miscommunication.
To overcome this barrier, I plan to have frequent face to face... Show more content on

Meeting will be scheduled with these barriers in mind.
SEMANTICS
The second communication barrier is semantics, which is words, jargon, phrases and acronyms
used at the various locations that may not be widely known outside of a specific area or group of
people.
To overcome this barrier, I ve asked the team leaders at each location to submit to me any common
acronyms used at their location along with an explanation and definition. These acronyms and
definitions will be logged and sent out to all team members for reference.
I will ask that all team members keep our communication differences in mind when speaking and
as much as possible to refrain from using local jargon or catch phrases. Additionally I will make
sure to communicate to all team members that they should feel comfortable asking questions when
an acronym or phrase is not clear.
PERSONAL
The third barrier to communication is personal barriers. Personal communication barriers are varied
and can include individual styles of sending and receiving messages, stereotypes, personality
differences, education and background differences,

Summary Of The Preface Of Frankenstein
The preface to Frankenstein is written as letters sent home from a captain aboard a ship. The
first mention of loneliness is made in the book by captain Walton as he recalls to a family
member what it feels like to be exploring through a vacant landscape. He is about to set sail when
writing this letter and is presumably dreading being alone with nothing but his crew to keep him
company. Walton fancies himself as a bit of a romantic and a scholar, so the likes of his men
aren t satisfying enough for him. Mary Shelley was likely familiar with this feeling because of
how intelligent she truly was. She roamed Europe in search of a companion to satisfy her mind s
cravings and found a few beginning with her husband Percy and then a group that she lived with
in Switzerland for a time: Lord Byron, John William Polidori, and Claire Clairmontwith. The
majority of the book takes place in the past, but in the preface the author sets the scene in present
day, where a captain sailing through an icy northern region stumbles upon a hot pursuit of two men
on dog sleds.
The pursuer is noticeably weak and is brought onto the boat to warm up and be nursed back to
health while the other man continues to ride across the frozen wasteland. He is a mysterious and
nearly speechless man that has clearly been beaten down by the life that he has lived. Later, it is
discovered that this man is Dr. Frankenstein, and when he is able to speak he begins to become
sufficient company for the captain. The

The effect of food source (mung bean Vigna radiata vs. black eyed pea Vigna unguiculata) on
relative inhibition of acetylcholinerase due to malaoxon in bean beetle Callosobruchus maculatus
Background and Hypotheses:
Recent studies, most notably Gbaye et al. (2011, 2012), have investigated the sensitivity of bean
beetles in the genus Callosobruchus to organophosphate insecticides (OPs). Economically this is
important work given that these beetles are pests that threaten agricultural yields of legumes. OPs
work by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinerase (AChE) in the beetles. Without this enzyme, the
neurotransmitter acetylcholine can t be broken down and its overflow leads to the eventual death of
the beetle. Results obtained by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
73 76 of (Course Supplement, 2014).
Once we collected the data on the 15 individual beetles, we found the sample mean relative
inhibitions per experimental group and their respective sample standard deviations. We then used
a two tailed t test analysis to determine if the difference in means is statistically significant. Our
experimental prediction: if we perform the colorimetric enzyme assay (described on pp. 73 76 of
the Course Supplement) on two groups of beatles one cultured on mung beans and one cultured on
black eye peas we will observe a statistical difference in the respective relative inhibitions.
Results and Data Analysis:
Beetles bred on mung beans exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.32% with a sample standard
deviation of 26.41%. Beetles bred on black eyed peas exhibited a mean relative inhibition of
35.42% with a sample standard deviation of 17.97%. This data is reflected in the bar graph in
Figure 1 below. The large bars show the respective means and the error bars show a range of one
standard deviation about the mean.
A two tailed t test yields a t value of 0.99. For 13 degrees of freedom, t critical is 2.16 for a 95%
confidence level and 1.35 for an 80% confidence level. This is reflected in Table 1 below.

Coleen Murtagh Paratore, is the author to The Wedding Planner s Daughter. Coleen used
symbolism very well in this book that it even determines the theme which is: never give up on

Essay on Internal Controls Case Study
October 1, 2011
I was asked to give my recommendations on LJB Company s internal control system before the
company decides to go public in the future. Based on my review of the information that I have been
given, the following are my recommendations for new internal controls: 1. Establishment of
Responsibility 2. Segregation of Duties 3. Human Resources Control 4. Independent Internal
Verification 5. Physical controls
It is good to see that LJB recognizes the efforts of its long term employees by rewarding them with
additional responsibilities. This shows that the employees are valued. There are also some physical

The Independent Internal Verification control is also being violated because the data that eh
accountant has been providing has not been verified by any other personnel in your company. It is
simply being recorded and reported by him only. The company s petty cash is being handled by all
employees and they are only being asked to leave a note in the drawer when it is being used. Why
are all employees being allowed to have access to the petty cash fund? How do you know that it is
being used to benefit the company, not the employee? Why is the cash not locked away instead
of being placed in a desk drawer? This violates the Human Resources Control as well as the
Physical Control. Employees who handle cash should be bonded and all cash should be locked
away. Receipts or other means of record keeping should be provided when petty cash is used, not
notes left in the drawer. The company does not have individual passwords assigned to employees
for computer use. This also is a violation of Physical Controls. Thorough background checks are not
being done on employees before they are hired. This violates the Human Resources Control. If this
had been done, the employee that had been convicted of child molestation would have never been
hired. The accountant should not be interviewing and approving new hires. This goes against the
Establishment of Responsibility control. The accountant has too many roles within the company
that should be assigned to

Leadership
A psychologist, Kurt Lewin completed a research study in 1939 on the different types of
leadership styles. He considered there to be three types of leaders, democratic, autocratic, and
laissez faire. In this particular study, children were placed in each individual group and viewed

participation from the group as the main attribute to making decisions. This leadership is viewed
as being the most effective way to be a leader and just so happened to be my results from the short

Shoulder Replacement Versus Traditional Hip Replacement Essay
Hip Replacement Versus Traditional Hip Replacement The continuous aging of the human body
combined with the stress of physical activities create a repeated stress on the joints of our bodies
that carry the potential risk of developing osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common
forms of arthritis that is the worsening of the joints occurring particularly in the hands, knees, and
hip. Osteoarthritis occurs primarily with elderly individuals who have severely worsened their
joints leading to disability. When studying joint deterioration radiographic signs of OA include
joint space narrowing, subchondral bonesclerosis, and osteophyte formation (Bennell, Poquet,
Williams, 2016, P. 1689). These signs prove detrimental for some individuals who begin to suffer
severe pain leading to the inability of performing simple tasks such as writing and/or walking. Hip
disabilities are especially common as a result of osteoarthritis, leaving individuals with several
choices of treatment. Whether it s physical therapy, exercise, or taking medicine, these options
might not prove helpful depending on the severity of the hip joint. In this essay, I will be
comparing minimally invasive hip replacementto traditional hip replacement to determine why
someone need s a hip replacement procedure, which option more favorable, and the physical
therapy following post replacement. The gradual wear and tear that is put on the joints of our

Exploring Sexual Assault And Rape
EXPLAINING SEXUAL ASSAULT AND RAPE
As reported by, feminist criminologists, their perspective of rape and sexual assault differ between
liberal and radical feminists. Liberal feminists viewpoint in regards of rape as a gender neutral
assault on a persons autonomy and mainly focusing on the harm that rape can do to an individual. In
contrast, radical feminists describe rape as a subject to be recognised and understood as a major
pillar of patriarchy; a social system in which men claim the positions of dominance and control of
the central norms and values that are linked with masculinity (Johnson, 2005: p. 4 15). The
radical feminists believe that rape is a patriarchal structure within male power, thus displaying the
harms that rape can do to an individual and as a group of women. Furthermore, the radical
feminists approach view rape as male have the control and authority over the use of women s
bodies, which involves the sexual and reproductive. Hence, this is the core element of patriarchy,
Radical feminist believe that rape is one of many forms that connects men s sexual exploitation and
violence, as well as, reinforcing women s oppression (Whisnant, 2013).
The main debate amongst the explanation is the key motivation that drives the offender to commit
rape. Previously, majority of social scientists perspective of rape is seen as a sexually motivated
crime; for instance, males are given the opportunity to fulfil their sexual desires that cannot be met

Lue Gim Gong s story from three distinct cultures and three distinct points of view. They include
his mother Sum Jui, his teacher Fanny Burlingame, and a friend that he makes named Sheba. Their

Fanny also converts Lue to Christianity and encourages his garden research but keeps him

She is too strong to accept the lack of power women faced at the time. Uninterested in men, she
invests all of her emotions in Jesus until she meets Lue Gim Gong.
She sees Lue as her creation; others see him as her pet. In fact, he is more independent than she
can accept. Rudely rejecting the possibility of a positive influence from his own family, she says
how she made him as much of an improved variety of Chinaman as his salmonberry, cherry
currant, and tomato were of plants (McCunn, 154). Though her closeness to him it allows her to be
offended by others racism, as she regards him as someone special rather than a typical Chinaman.
After Fanny s death, he was barred from the church they had regularly worshipped in, on account of
his color.
Finally there is Sheba, Fanny s black servant whose father was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan
shortly after winning his freedom from slavery. Sheba worked alongside Lue in the orange groves
and probably understood him best. This is because Sheba s eyes were the least blinded by
prejudice and ignorance. Unlike their white neighbors, neither Lue nor Sheba was too proud to

Many Catholics practice the Ten Commandments. Which are I am the LORD your God, you

The 7th commandment condemns theft and the feelings of envy, greed, and jealousy in reaction
to what other people have. Catholicism was one of the principal religions during this time

Literary Analysis Of The Poisonwood Bible
Michela Murray Miss Keister AP English Literature 22 August 2014 The Poisonwood Bible by
Barbara Kingsolver, literary analysis In The Poisonwood Bible, symbolism is widely explored
to allude to and explore ideas in a nonliteral sense, Methuselah, a parrot left behind and adopted
by the Price family, is an example of this. Throughout the novel, his role as a symbol of the
Congo is examined. Methuselah, kept in a cage and tended to by its new masters, knows little
about the world of freedom. He has very little experience in fending for himself, and when
Nathan releases him as a consequence for his foul language, he is oblivious to the behavior a
wild parrot should exhibit. He remains near the house even after being released, still dependant on
the Price family for food and shelter. This shows that through years of being cared for, the parrot
lost its instincts to fend for itself leaving it open to attack and abuse, in comparison to the Congo,
who under Belgian control lost the political and economic stability to stand on its own without

One new experience can bring a whole other dimension. Viewpoints on life change, knowledge is
gained through mistakes, and one may find themselves trapped in a maze like situation that they
need to find a way out of. However, making the best out of one s position through determination,
perseverance, and courage can slowly reverse the difficulty of handling it. Eventually, as strength is
regained from tough obstacles, the desire to obtain their dreams escalates even further, which aids
in working harder and striving to reach their goals. Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of Nickel and
Dimed, depicts the financial struggles of single mothers who raise their families through minimum
wagejobs after the welfare reform affected their lifestyles. In the novel, Ehrenreich tests the limits of
living in poverty by accepting any scarce job that was offered, and provides insight that although it
was exhausting to balance her needs and her hectic work schedule, by diligently laboring, constantly
persisting in seeking the better, and voicing out the wrongs, it can eventually lead to the attainment
of the American Dream. Through the struggles of stabilizing two jobs at once while searching for a
temporary home, Ehrenreich displayed the frustration of sticking to her three guidelines in her
experiment: she cannot go hungry, be homeless, or ignore the skills she learned through her
education and past work experiences. She struggled to find jobs that provided more than minimum
wage incomes in

The Cultural Norms Of Ethiopia
Africa is globally recognized for its broad cultural and diversity. Many countries in Africa have
distinct cultures. In the case of Ethiopia, it has gained an obscured reputation globally hence the
need for learning about their cultural norms for military considerations. When it comes to Ethiopia,
or the entire African continent, most bad things are affiliated with the region especially due to the
things that people see and hear on television, including starving children, kids without parents,
adults begging for food and living places, as well as individuals walking around the streets without
shoes and clothes. Certain parts of Africa portray such issues, although it is worth noting that
certain parts of the developed world also portray... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The individuals rely on agriculture and pastoralist activities while they reside mostly in the
southwestern and central parts of Ethiopia. Regarding the Shankellas, they usually reside in the
country s western region on the border of Lake Turkana and Eritrea. It comprises of around 6
percent of the entire population in the nation. The other groups of individuals living in Ethiopia
that comprise the remainder of the population include Sidamo, Tigreano, Afrar, Somali, and
Gurage (Tikuye, 2009). Concerning the Amhara population, it portrays varied physiological
heritage. The individuals usually speak the Semitic language while their linguistic and historical
forces as depicted by their primary origin myths appear to reveal that their Ancestors originated
from the present day Yemen. Addis Ababa serves as Ethiopia s capital while it served as the prior
Abyssinian Empire of the Amhara. A large number of Amahara people reside in the area although
in an enclave based in the Oromo people s land (Getahun Kassu, 2014). The Amhara speak
Amharic as their main language although other people across Ethiopia usually speak it as a second
language. The Amharic language was mostly used in schools but it has recently spread to different
parts of Ethiopia commencing in 1991. The Ethiopian people also speak English, which serves as
the dominant foreign language, while it is mostly taught in high schools. Ethiopians are capable of

Karl Marx, Max Weber and Emile Durkheim offered differing perspectives on the role of religion.
Choose the theorist whose insights you prefer and outline how they perceived religion operating
socially. Discuss why you chose your preferred theorists views over the others.
Marx, Durkheim and Weber each had different sociological views of the role and function of
Religion. My preferred theorists view s on Religion is Karl Marx s as I feel his ideas are more
relevant to what Religion actually is. And I have chosen Marx s theory on Religion as I feel that
it is the most similar to my own views on the subject. His views are more interesting to me as I
don t practise any Religion and his views expand on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Durkheim s theories make sense and are for me a nice and fluffy way of looking at Religion, but
I have a feeling that if he were to see the route Religion has gone down in modern society would
he still feel the same about the majority of Religions, for example the scandal s in the Catholic
church over the past forty years that are only really surfacing now. And Weber s thoughts were
more rational as that what was expected of people was to keep their heads down and they would
eventually be rewarded with Heaven.
Even if in today s society more numbers are in decline of practicing religion, Marx s views on
the subject are definitely the most valid. There expectations of people may not be as extreme as
they were back in the 1800 s of their followers as they are now, but of the three, Marx s views are
the most realistic of what Religion truly is. His ability to see what religion was actually doing to
people s lives back then is remarkable and for his words to still have such relevance now in
modern society shows that he was extremely perceptive of society. Marxism also assumes that
Religion will eventually disappear and for someone to envisage that from over one hundred years
ago is clearly someone who knew what they were talking about. And that is why I chose Marx.

Capitalism And Imperialism
Imperialism is the policy of extending power and dominion of an empire. It is most notably
accomplished through the acquisition of territory or gaining control of foreign political or
economic systems. Capitalism, by nature, is imperialistic. While this system is not driven by
nationalism, it does facilitate competitive rivalry, and it s often distinguished by its usage of
economic competition. Wage workers are hired by competing businesses in an industry, and these
businesses strive to outperform each other. The most effective businesses sustain their dominance
in the market by equipping themselves with the latest tools and tactics to gain increasing amounts
of capital. From there, they continue to efficiently expand their territory to maximize profit and
increase market power. Smaller businesses that do not efficiently grow their profit margin and
increase their market share tend to fail in the shadows of these more powerful businesses.
The natural tendency of capitalism is to spread. Corporations are in constant pursuit to keep gaining
access to new or untouched markets that will grant them the best prices for their products and
services. They often do this by targeting new customer demographics, selling more products, and
dispersing their products or services into new territories. As these corporations infiltrate new
markets, maintaining market power would require that executives also continue to constantly
innovate the framework of their businesses refining and

Chests give off gold, gems, and cards. Chests can be obtained in battle, a free chest once every 4
hours, and can also be bought in shop with gems. Types of chests include: Wooden chests (only

For this to function smoothly on mobile requires some huge infrastructure. I haven t seen a hiccup
yet in my battles against real players. It has a slight loading time at the beginning or end of a match.
You have a slate of characters that you can drop onto the field, and they start moving slowly
toward the enemy s defenses, which consist of two forts and a main castle. It has two lanes for
combat, in contrast to five for typical MOBA games. The options for playable cards show up in
the bottom of the screen. You get a choice of four. A mana meter runs along the bottom. If you
have enough mana to play a card, it shows up in colors. If you don t have enough, a timer that
runs in real time shows you when it will be ready. When you are ready to play a card, you just
press down on it and move it to the right part of the screen where you want it to appear. That s all
you are required to do. That makes the gameplay repetitive and simple. You just have to think fast.
Clash Royale has just a few dozen cards at the moment, but most of them are easily recognizable as
characters from Clash of Clans. If you drop down a giant, it will lumber toward the enemy s fort at

Plastic Bags And The Environmental Damage
Introduction
Plastic bag is an important invention of modern humans, it was only for a short time from which
was invented to widely used in human history. When plastic bags become one of the most
necessities goods in our life, we have not realized that if we do not handle the waste of plastic bags
properly, it will become our disaster. White Pollutionis no longer a strange word but it actually
reminds us that this is a serous problem. This essay will examine the relationship between plastic
bags and the environmental damage; moreover, in this essay it will try to find solutions to solve
this problem.
Plastic bags: born for killer of environment
The first plastic bags named baggies in 1975 in the United States of America (Leo Hickman 2009).
For the original use of plastic bag is to convenient and easy carrying food. In a long time, people
dependence on plastic bags is embodied in many aspects of daily life, it makes people ignore what
and how plastic bags contribute to environmental damage. The cost of produce plastic bags is
low and plastic products are using a wide range, especially in large retailers, offering free plastic
bags is one of the most basic service and standard for customers in a large supermarket.

Sexual Issues In The Military Essay
The Military s Struggle with Sexual Assault The United States military is badly losing a war that
continues to negatively affect the lives of the country s finest service members. This war is not
against a sovereign nation or a radical, extremist group of rebels. Referred to by many as the
invisible war , the U.S. militaryis struggling to find a reasonable and effective solution to its
problem with sexual assaults. Despite the Department of Defense s best efforts, sexual assault is
still uncomfortably prevalent in the United Statesmilitary. An overwhelming amount of cases go
unreported each year, and the correlation between those that are reported and the number of
offenders that are actually prosecuted is astounding. The decision whether a sexual assault case
proceeds with prosecution lands squarely on the shoulders of military commanders. I propose an
immediate overhaul of the current system, with the main focus revolving around military
commanders relinquishing their trial determining authority to trained, qualified and impartial
military prosecutors, thus ensuring more victims feel comfortable and confident reporting these
heartbreaking incidents. The military s conflict with sexual assault is not a new issue. The
problem has existed for decades and is continuing to poison the ranks of today s service members.

The Importance Of College For College
Choosing a college is stressful and the pressure to make the right decision can become
overwhelming. When determining which college to attend, college expenses become a primary
focus for families, many times outweighing the preferred educational institution. My first choice for
out of state colleges is San Diego State Universityand my preferred choice for an in state collegeis
the University of Arizona. While researching and comparing which college is the favored
institution for me to attend, there are many financial considerations that are imperative to making
an educated decision including: base tuition, the application fee required for admission, the cost of
books, the distance from home and travel costs, the climate, the cost of food, housing and other
necessities.
The five major methods of paying for college are: paying out of pocket; scholarships; grants;
loans; and work study. My first and preferred approach to pay for college is the look to my parents
for tuition payment. Education is extremely important to my family, my parents have provided me
with an excellent education attending Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Grade School and Xavier
College Preparatory, a private Catholic High School. My parents have always saved for my
educational expenses, and set aside money in a 529 college fund savings account. Monies in a 529
are invested in a tax deferred account and marked specifically for college tuition, books and other
education related expenses (Dickler). In the

Comparison Of Bobbi Brown And Eugene Schueller
The two people I chose are Bobbi Brown, by Didi, and Eugene Schueller, by Mackenzie. I chose
Eugene Schueller because he is the founder of a business that my mom loves and the story of
how the business came to be was very inspiring, I also chose Bobbi Brown because I love her
makeup products. I think that both entrepreneurs have very inspiring stories behind the creation of
their brands. What stood out to me about Eugene Schueller was that he started off as a chemist
and when he discovered the formula for hair dyes and makeup in school he began to invent many
different formulas and dyes in his kitchen and had branched off since then. He started by selling to
local salons and years later when others all over started to hear about his products

Creative Thinking Job With Google
I am prepared for a creative thinking job with google, working on the Google Home because of
the skills that I developed through my technical communication class. In LMC 3403 I expanded my
knowledge on technical communication and continued to grow as an individual. I learned a lot
about a different types of voice personas and the characteristics of soundinterfaces. Perhaps the
biggest takeaway in the class for me came through the development of my groups own sound
interface. We were forced to focus on the user interaction and really think about the characteristics
that the voice would possess, including the details that go into a voice persona like Siri, Alexa, and
the Google Home.
During LMC 3403 I acquired a foundational vocabulary for discussing and analyzing sounds,
voices, and modes of listening through the work done on my blog post. I learned about
soundscapes and how the use of tempo, pitch, and intensity create different emotions; contribute
to the overall goal of the environment. For instance take a weight room and library for instance.
The goal of a weight room is to give high levels of effort and physical effort. So you may have
loud intense music playing, this gets the blood going. You also may here the low grunts of other
athletes exerting their efforts. This creates an environment of hard work and motivates you to
work harder. Now take a library for example you may here the low hum of the air conditioner, the
thuds of books going back on the shelf, and the

Restorative Justice Thesis
Introduction Restorative Justice (RJ) is a program that if implemented correctly, could not only
revolutionize our justice system but perhaps transform our society as a whole, by greatly
reducing crime. This is a bold statement; but if people can be taught about the harm the smallest
crimes can have on our society, as well as the grave potential it could lead to other more harmful
crimes. When added in the home training, as well as our school system, as young as preschool,
there is no doubt this would greatly reduce crime, because society would have been talked earlier
on about the impacts of crime. Yes, there will be those who would only see this as a program to be
soft of criminals, however when they see the true goal of this program, responsibility,... Show more

What could make this program more effective is to start this in Elementary, and try to have parents
and community implement this in everyday life, by providing seminars to parents to show the
benefits of Restorative Justice. Researchers at the University of California Berkeley s School of
Law studied the impact of restorative practices at Cole Middle School... a predominantly minority
and low income school in West Oakland...study found that suspensions dropped 87 percent. Both
students and teachers reported that the program made the school more peaceful, with fewer fights
among students and better behavior in the classroom, relative to earlier years (Smith, 2012).
Although there has been issues with funding this new program, and it has not come with some
teachers not liking the new program, when a student tells you they notice a shift in the atmosphere
with regards to crime in the school, this is

  • 4. The Executive s And Outliers Were Red Flags For The Enron... Enron was facing risks, risks from every angle. You can see from the history to the demise of the company everything was based on risk. Even when it came to the personal lives of those in charge, you can find some type of risk. Being a Houston native, I did not quite understand the reaction to Enron. I did not understand why it went so far as to changing the name of a stadium from Enronto Minute Maid Park. I was only a teen at the time, but now I am not. I now hope to explain my opinion on how the past, the executive s and outliers were red flags prior to the Enron crisis. My thoughts on how they could have handled the matter. Lastly, express what I would have done if I was an executive or general council to such a company. Above I stated that risks were everywhere in the case of Enron. The custom is that in order to stay in business one must take a risk. I agree that this is essential when done with good intentions and business practices. This is something that lacked in Enron before the bigger crisis emerged. The first red flag for me would have been the Valhalla Scandal . This showed the true character and intentions of Kenny Lay. Which were to get as much money as he could no matter the legality of the practices and who suffers. This shows that some of the risks taken by Lay were not the best, for his company or employees. Since the employee was doing the illegal work, and producing funding. The employee is also who ended up in jail. Moving forward another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unit 3 Assignment 1 User Authentication User authentication With the rapid increase in the number of attempted breaches and resulting damages, there is an increased need for user authentication, especially with numerous unknown mobile devices with which consumers are using to access to IT resources. Users of these mobile devices can be authenticated by the use of passwords or hardware token devices and both password and hardware one time password (OTP) in most cases. Generally, while the use of passwords are inexpensive, they are thought to be a relatively insecure form of security. Hardware OTPs, on the other hand, tend to be a more secure form of security, but are more expensive and may also be susceptible to more advanced attacks, such as the man in the middle (MITM) attack. ... • 6. Huntington s Disease Study Huntington s disease, or HD, is a genetic neuro generative condition that is characterized by progressive dysfunction in motor, cognitive and behavioral abilities. There are about 4 10 cases per 100,000 throughout the world, which makes it one of the most prevalent genetic neuro generative disorders. Huntington s disease is a dominant gene mutation that occurs in the huntingtin gene. The result is an excessive repeat of the nucleotide triad cytosine adenine guanine (CAG) and causes damage to neurons. The striatum of the brainand the cerebral cortex are most affected by the gene but other parts of the brain atrophy as well. Typically, onset begins around the 4th decade of life although an early onset form can occur before the age of 20.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... compared the metabolic profiles of pre manifest, manifest HD and control groups. The results showed that amylin and ghrelin levels were significantly increased in all HD subjects compared to the control group. The increase in ghrelin, an appetite stimulant, and amylin, an appetite suppressant, demonstrates the numerous abnormalities regarding regulation of food ingestion and absorption (Wang et al., 2014). Another abnormality observed was a significant decrease in glucagon in the manifest HD group compared to the control group. Glucagon plays a major role in upholding normal metabolism in the body. It also acts as a protective agent by reducing the neurotoxic glutamate. Therefore, a decrease in glucagon can play a significant part in the pathogenesis of Huntington s disease (Wang et al., 2014). Adiponectin is a hormone that is released from adipose tissue and is negatively correlated with Body Mass Index. In HD subjects, this correlation was not significant. Decreased adiponectin levels is usually linked with obesity and insulin resistance. These changes suggest that irregular adipocyte function is associated with the metabolic changes in the pathophysiology of Huntington s disease. Prolactin and total cholesterol levels were also decreased in all HD subjects and showed erratic levels of leptin. This is likely due to impaired food digestion and absorption, which is also supported by the increased amylin levels. Essentially, the study s findings show that HD patients have a decreased ability to maintain metabolic homeostasis and abnormal hormone levels (Wang et al., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This demonstrates us that maximus has a high reputation and is someone who is looked up to. This also illustrates the love and affection for maximus from his soldiers and even by animals as the dog was following him when the war was about to begin. The last scene I have chosen is when there is a slow motion when the Romans had won the war. This connotes the supremacy and authority they had during these times. The main character of this motion picture is Maximus. Throughout the film, the audience sees his loving character, his love for Rome and his fellow Gladiators, and love for his wife and kid. Secondly, Maximus is physically strong and this enables him to win every battle he fights in. These three stylistic tools are beautifully rendered and masterfully integrated into complex works of art, but there is no question that artistic expression is severely limited under these categorizations. However, this limitation stems from Islamictheology and concept of art. The main reasonfor the limitation imposed on visual art is the Islamic theological prohibition of figural imagery. Social laws presented in the Hadith prevented the representation of figures because any imitationwas deemed idolatrous. Also, art is considered to be decorative and imitative. Oddly enough, the miniatures are second imitations; they are the imitation of the scribed words, which in turn imitate the actual legendary event. The Arabic words are the most important artistic representation of the page. The word is the substance of the book; the attached miniatures are merely pictorial representations of the written story. This subjugation of the picture to the word is physically demonstrated, for the text on the page, in the same fashion of all the pages in the Shahnama, is placed above the miniature. This placement has theological implications. In Islam, Arabic text is considered the literal word of God for the Qur an was revealed in Arabic. So, if the word of Allah is reflected in the symbols of Arabic script, then symbolically Allah is manifested in the text. This is consistent within popular Islamic thought. Walter Denny writes that objects were decorated with sacred script for it was thought to invoke good wishes on the owners of pottery and metalwork, and kept the evil eye from thresholds and hearths. Consequently, Allah is present in the Sufarai miniature not through a figural image, for that would extremely blasphemous, but through the written text. A woman may be smarter, be able to do what a man can do, but everything from a job, consisting of nannies to maids, or to her own sexuality, staying chaste till marriage, is under sharp scrutiny. Sexuality is a hallmark theme of many novels even in the 18th century. Whether it be the main plot of a story or one of the various subplots. In the stories Roxana and Fantomina the main characters identities seem to be in control by using their sexuality to their own ends. This excited a Curiosity in her to know in what Manner these Creatures were address d. This leads to her descent into sexuality itself, which is more then she bargained for, she had just wanted the attention of men falling all over themselves to talk to her. Fantomina is a lady of high standing, and men followed the rules and protocols to woo a lady but not a prostitute. She depended on the strength of her virtue, to bear her safe thro trials more dangerous than she apprehended this to be, and never having been addressed by him as a lady was resolved to receive his devoirs as a town mistress, imagining a world of satisfaction to herself in engaging him in the character of such a one, and in observing the surprise he would be in to find himself refused by a woman who he supposed granted her favors without exception. This passage shows that she never meant to give into sexual activity with him, also making it clear that she is a woman who planned on protecting her chastity and virtue. This makes Fantomina more sympathetic to the readers, who would judge a woman for giving into sexual desires. The story however shows how even a high class lady who is expected to be able to maintain her self control can be seduced by the idea of pleasure and freedom. An escape from her restrictive identity. • 13. Inherit The Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Every man has opinions, some which are stronger than others, but do these thoughts define the man? In Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee s play Inherit The Wind opinions do not define the people who advocate them. Each character in this play has viewpoints that influence their actions. The bravery, honesty and determination required to express an opinion defines a person more than the opinion, allowing one to respect a man who advocates unpopular opinions. When a man stands up for his beliefs despite their unpopularity, he exemplifies great bravery. While Bertram Cates may not have been the most brave man when the trial began, he later addresses the courtroom by saying, I feel I am... I have been convicted of violating an unjust law. I will continue in the future, as I have in the past, to oppose this law in any way I can, (115). Bert bravely states his point of view in his speech and makes it clear that he stands behind Darwinism. While picking the jury members, Drummond [objects] to all [the] Colonel talk, (42) because he believes it interferes with a fair trial. In addition to annoying Brady, Drummond objects to the title because he is brave enough to stand up to what he thinks is unjust. On a more general note, Drummond had the braveryto go to Hillsboro as the defense attorney for Bert even though winning the case was nearly impossible and there was no pay. At first the young shepherd puts his alarm to a test by falsely crying wolf. The villagers came running to his aide only to find that the boy was trifling with them. The second time he cries, wolf! If the wrongs of every event in history were to be scrutinized would we have a history left to celebrate? Even when we look at something in a holiday that isn t negative, like the Christmas tree, which there aren t conifers in Jerusalem, it shows how much our holidays can be skewed from a tradition which was originally practiced. Even the other holidays honoring great men can have a darker side. MLK day for example; Martin Luther King, or Michael Luther King, was under scrutiny because his doctorate had blatant plagiarism, also his I Have a Dream speech was plagiarized from a pastor from his church he attended. This shows that history and the light we view people in can be skewed to retain the honor or the pomp and circumstance that comes with remembering the good brought about by their achievements. Beyond the fact that Columbus was not the first person to discover the Americas, he was the man that brought about European civilization to America and their fascination with conquering a new world. His wrong doings, which include, letting his crew rape, pillage and plunder the Bahamas, should not outweigh the good that coming to America brought for us as Americans who, without European influence may not have progressed quite as far or in the circumstances we did. • 17. Atomic Theory And The Study Of Matter Atomic Theory and the Study of Matter Matter is anything made up of atoms and molecules and the study of these things called atoms dates back to the time of Ancient Greece to the present. The information about atoms known today is certainly much greater than what was known centuries ago. First, there was only hypotheses on this idea that everything in the world is made up of tiny, unseeable particles. As technology advanced, these hypotheses were tested, critiqued, modified, and built upon. A mass of knowledge is known regarding atoms, thanks to the research of numerous chemists and physicists. The atomic theory is the building block to the study of matter just as the atomis the building block to all matter. Around 400 BCE was when the Greek philosopher Democritus, alone with his teacher Leucippus, the idea of the atom was born (the word atom comes from the Greek word atomos or atomon meaning that which cannot be split ). This was a completely new concept, and Democritus s theory stated that atoms were indestructible and homogenous, and different states of matter were made up of differently shaped atoms: solids had sharp and pointy atoms and liquids had large round atoms. Later these ideas would be proved inaccurate, however, this was the beginning of the discovery of the atom even though the people of this time had no instruments capable of testing the theory. It was not until centuries later that the atomic theory was truly looked at again. In 1803 an English ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the project manager for this project, here is my plan to address communication barriers for our team and to keep communication flowing in a positive way. Synthetic Meshes Essay 1.4.8 Performance of synthetic meshes Synthetic meshes have been widely used through decades as a routine to solve also the most complicated cases, even in cases of clean contamination with severe comorbidity [202]. The biological response to prosthetic meshes can be characterized by the foreign body reaction, the formation of collagenous tissue, neoperitonealization and neovascularization. • 20. Summary Of The Preface Of Frankenstein The preface to Frankenstein is written as letters sent home from a captain aboard a ship. The first mention of loneliness is made in the book by captain Walton as he recalls to a family member what it feels like to be exploring through a vacant landscape. He is about to set sail when writing this letter and is presumably dreading being alone with nothing but his crew to keep him company. Walton fancies himself as a bit of a romantic and a scholar, so the likes of his men aren t satisfying enough for him. Mary Shelley was likely familiar with this feeling because of how intelligent she truly was. She roamed Europe in search of a companion to satisfy her mind s cravings and found a few beginning with her husband Percy and then a group that she lived with in Switzerland for a time: Lord Byron, John William Polidori, and Claire Clairmontwith. The majority of the book takes place in the past, but in the preface the author sets the scene in present day, where a captain sailing through an icy northern region stumbles upon a hot pursuit of two men on dog sleds. The pursuer is noticeably weak and is brought onto the boat to warm up and be nursed back to health while the other man continues to ride across the frozen wasteland. He is a mysterious and nearly speechless man that has clearly been beaten down by the life that he has lived. Later, it is discovered that this man is Dr. Frankenstein, and when he is able to speak he begins to become sufficient company for the captain. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The effect of food source (mung bean Vigna radiata vs. black eyed pea Vigna unguiculata) on relative inhibition of acetylcholinerase due to malaoxon in bean beetle Callosobruchus maculatus Background and Hypotheses: Recent studies, most notably Gbaye et al. (2011, 2012), have investigated the sensitivity of bean beetles in the genus Callosobruchus to organophosphate insecticides (OPs). Economically this is important work given that these beetles are pests that threaten agricultural yields of legumes. OPs work by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinerase (AChE) in the beetles. Our experimental prediction: if we perform the colorimetric enzyme assay (described on pp. 73 76 of the Course Supplement) on two groups of beatles one cultured on mung beans and one cultured on black eye peas we will observe a statistical difference in the respective relative inhibitions. Results and Data Analysis: Beetles bred on mung beans exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.32% with a sample standard deviation of 26.41%. Beetles bred on black eyed peas exhibited a mean relative inhibition of 35.42% with a sample standard deviation of 17.97%. This data is reflected in the bar graph in Figure 1 below. • 27. Shoulder Replacement Versus Traditional Hip Replacement Essay Hip Replacement Versus Traditional Hip Replacement The continuous aging of the human body combined with the stress of physical activities create a repeated stress on the joints of our bodies that carry the potential risk of developing osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is one of the most common forms of arthritis that is the worsening of the joints occurring particularly in the hands, knees, and hip. Osteoarthritis occurs primarily with elderly individuals who have severely worsened their joints leading to disability. When studying joint deterioration radiographic signs of OA include joint space narrowing, subchondral bonesclerosis, and osteophyte formation (Bennell, Poquet, Williams, 2016, P. 1689). These signs prove detrimental for some individuals who begin to suffer severe pain leading to the inability of performing simple tasks such as writing and/or walking. Hip disabilities are especially common as a result of osteoarthritis, leaving individuals with several choices of treatment. Whether it s physical therapy, exercise, or taking medicine, these options might not prove helpful depending on the severity of the hip joint. In contrast, radical feminists describe rape as a subject to be recognised and understood as a major pillar of patriarchy; a social system in which men claim the positions of dominance and control of the central norms and values that are linked with masculinity (Johnson, 2005: p. 4 15). Catholicism was one of the principal religions during this time period, therefore they should have executed these 10 commands. Nowadays, we have modernized banks many in trust their money in. The banks lends money to customers at a higher rate than they pay to depositors or than they borrow it. The difference, known as the margin is kept by the bank. For example, if a bank pays 1% interest on deposits they may charge 6% interest on loans grossing 5% for themselves. Moreover, bank employees from Wells Fargo secretly opened unauthorized accounts to hit sales targets and receive bonuses. Not only is this identity theft, however, it shines even more light on how the love of money is the root of all evil. Lastly, banks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Literary Analysis Of The Poisonwood Bible Michela Murray Miss Keister AP English Literature 22 August 2014 The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, literary analysis In The Poisonwood Bible, symbolism is widely explored to allude to and explore ideas in a nonliteral sense, Methuselah, a parrot left behind and adopted by the Price family, is an example of this. Throughout the novel, his role as a symbol of the Congo is examined. Methuselah, kept in a cage and tended to by its new masters, knows little about the world of freedom. He has very little experience in fending for himself, and when Nathan releases him as a consequence for his foul language, he is oblivious to the behavior a wild parrot should exhibit. He remains near the house even after being released, still dependant on the Price family for food and shelter. This shows that through years of being cared for, the parrot lost its instincts to fend for itself leaving it open to attack and abuse, in comparison to the Congo, who under Belgian control lost the political and economic stability to stand on its own without Belgium to take control over it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This suggests that the Congo was now to be seen as prey, much like Methuselah was seen as by the civet cat. However, through Methuselah s death, the novel expresses that he is finally free: Set upon by the civet cat, the spy, the eye, the hunger of a superior need, Methuselah is free of his captivity at last. This shows that Methuselah would never truly experience freedom within the course of his life, as his upbringing prevents it. Through complete conquering through a superior nation, would the Congo achieve freedom of captivity too? Not without giving up its own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, making the best out of one s position through determination, perseverance, and courage can slowly reverse the difficulty of handling it. Eventually, as strength is regained from tough obstacles, the desire to obtain their dreams escalates even further, which aids in working harder and striving to reach their goals. Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of Nickel and Dimed, depicts the financial struggles of single mothers who raise their families through minimum wagejobs after the welfare reform affected their lifestyles. In the novel, Ehrenreich tests the limits of living in poverty by accepting any scarce job that was offered, and provides insight that although it was exhausting to balance her needs and her hectic work schedule, by diligently laboring, constantly persisting in seeking the better, and voicing out the wrongs, it can eventually lead to the attainment of the American Dream. Through the struggles of stabilizing two jobs at once while searching for a temporary home, Ehrenreich displayed the frustration of sticking to her three guidelines in her experiment: she cannot go hungry, be homeless, or ignore the skills she learned through her education and past work experiences. Durkheim s theories make sense and are for me a nice and fluffy way of looking at Religion, but I have a feeling that if he were to see the route Religion has gone down in modern society would he still feel the same about the majority of Religions, for example the scandal s in the Catholic church over the past forty years that are only really surfacing now. And Weber s thoughts were more rational as that what was expected of people was to keep their heads down and they would eventually be rewarded with Heaven. Even if in today s society more numbers are in decline of practicing religion, Marx s views on the subject are definitely the most valid. There expectations of people may not be as extreme as they were back in the 1800 s of their followers as they are now, but of the three, Marx s views are the most realistic of what Religion truly is. His ability to see what religion was actually doing to people s lives back then is remarkable and for his words to still have such relevance now in modern society shows that he was extremely perceptive of society. Marxism also assumes that Religion will eventually disappear and for someone to envisage that from over one hundred years ago is clearly someone who knew what they were talking about. • 44. Capitalism And Imperialism Imperialism is the policy of extending power and dominion of an empire. It is most notably accomplished through the acquisition of territory or gaining control of foreign political or economic systems. Capitalism, by nature, is imperialistic. While this system is not driven by nationalism, it does facilitate competitive rivalry, and it s often distinguished by its usage of economic competition. Wage workers are hired by competing businesses in an industry, and these businesses strive to outperform each other. The most effective businesses sustain their dominance in the market by equipping themselves with the latest tools and tactics to gain increasing amounts of capital. From there, they continue to efficiently expand their territory to maximize profit and increase market power. Smaller businesses that do not efficiently grow their profit margin and increase their market share tend to fail in the shadows of these more powerful businesses. The natural tendency of capitalism is to spread. Corporations are in constant pursuit to keep gaining access to new or untouched markets that will grant them the best prices for their products and services. They often do this by targeting new customer demographics, selling more products, and dispersing their products or services into new territories. As these corporations infiltrate new markets, maintaining market power would require that executives also continue to constantly innovate the framework of their businesses refining and ... This war is not against a sovereign nation or a radical, extremist group of rebels. Despite the Department of Defense s best efforts, sexual assault is still uncomfortably prevalent in the United Statesmilitary. An overwhelming amount of cases go unreported each year, and the correlation between those that are reported and the number of offenders that are actually prosecuted is astounding. The decision whether a sexual assault case proceeds with prosecution lands squarely on the shoulders of military commanders. I propose an immediate overhaul of the current system, with the main focus revolving around military commanders relinquishing their trial determining authority to trained, qualified and impartial military prosecutors, thus ensuring more victims feel comfortable and confident reporting these heartbreaking incidents.
