Power system harmonics are a menace to electric power system with disastrous consequence. Due to the presence of non linear load, power quality of the system gets affected. To overcome this, shunt active power filter have been used near harmonic producing loads or at the point of common coupling to block current harmonics. The shunt active power filter is designed to minimize harmonics in source current and reactive power in the non linear power supplies which are creating harmonics. In this paper, Instantaneous power of p-q theory is employed to generate the reference currents and PI controller is used to control the dc link voltage. In addition to this, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique is used to minimize the harmonics produced by nonlinear load. The main objective of this paper is to analyze and compare THD of the source current with PI controller and by artificial neural network based back propagation algorithm. The proposed system is designed with MATLAB/SIMULINK environment.
report of Improvement of the Electric Power Quality Using Series Active and S...Vikram Rawani
The increase of nonlinear loads due to the proliferation of electronic equipment causes power quality in the power system to deteriorate. Harmonic current drawn from a supply by the nonlinear load results in the distortion of the supply voltage waveform at the point of common coupling (PCC) due to the source impedance. Both distorted current and voltage may cause end-user equipment to malfunction, conductors to overheat and may reduce the efficiency and life expectancy of the equipment connected at the PCC.

A Research on Optimal Power Flow Solutions For Variable LoaIJERA Editor
This paper presents the optimal power flow solutions under variable load conditions. In this article we present the recent trend towards non-deterministic (random) search techniques and hybrid methods for OPF and give the conclusions. These methods have become popular because they have a theoretical advantage over the deterministic methods with respect to handling of non convexity, dynamics, and discrete variables. Present commercial OPF programs can solve very large and complex power systems optimization problems in a relatively less time. In recent years many different solution methods have been suggested to solve OPF problems. The paper contributes a comprehensive discussion of specific optimization techniques that can be applied to OPF Solution methodology.
A Survey On Real Time State Estimation For Optimal Placement Of Phasor Measur...IJSRD
The traditional methods of security assessment using offline data and SCADA data have become inconsistent for real time operations. The latest and propelled strategy in electric power system used for security assessment is “synchrophasor†measurement technique. The device called Phasor measurement unit (PMU) provides the time stamped data for proper monitoring, control and protection of the power system. PMU measures positive sequence voltage and current time synchronized to within a microsecond. The time synchronization of data is done with the help of timing signals from Global Positioning System (GPS). However, Phasor measurements units cannot be placed on every bus in a network mainly because of economical constraints. In this paper we provide a literature survey of determining the minimum number of Phasor measurement units to be placed in a given network so that the system becomes observable.
A novel auto-tuning method for fractional order PID controllersISA Interchange
Fractional order PID controllers benefit from an increasing amount of interest from the research community due to their proven advantages. The classical tuning approach for these controllers is based on specifying a certain gain crossover frequency, a phase margin and a robustness to gain variations. To tune the fractional order controllers, the modulus, phase and phase slope of the process at the imposed gain crossover frequency are required. Usually these values are obtained from a mathematical model of the process, e.g. a transfer function. In the absence of such model, an auto-tuning method that is able to estimate these values is a valuable alternative. Auto-tuning methods are among the least discussed design methods for fractional order PID controllers. This paper proposes a novel approach for the auto-tuning of fractional order controllers. The method is based on a simple experiment that is able to determine the modulus, phase and phase slope of the process required in the computation of the controller parameters. The proposed design technique is simple and efficient in ensuring the robustness of the closed loop system. Several simulation examples are presented, including the control of processes exhibiting integer and fractional order dynamics.
Improved p-q Harmonic Detection Method for Hybrid Active Power Filter IJECEIAES
The accurate determination of the load harmonic current is one of the important factors, it decides to effect of harmonic filtering and reactive power compensation for Hybrid Active Power Filter. The p-q harmonic detection method has been widely used in determining the harmonic currents of Hybrid Active Power Filter. However, when using this method, the dynamic response of Hybrid Active Power Filter in the transient period will have a large transient time and overshoot whenever the load changes abruptly. Therefore, in this paper an improved pq harmonic current detection method based on fuzzy logic is proposed, which aims to reduce the overshoot and transient time in transient duration of Hybrid Active Power Filter. In order to compare the dynamic response of conventional and improved p-q harmonic detection methods, simulation results have demonstrated that: the proposed method has a shorter response time, the magnitude of the supply current in the transient time is smaller and the overshoot of the fundamental active and reactive power components is very small. This has a practical significance that contributes to the stability of the Hybrid Active Power Filter system.

A progressive domain expansion method for solving optimal control problemTELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
Electricity generation at the hydropower stations in Nigeria has been below the expected value. While the hydro stations have a capacity to generate up to 2,380 MW, the daily average energy generated in 2017 was estimated at around 846 MW. A factor responsible for this is the lack of a proper control system to manage the transfer of resources between the cascaded Kainji-Jebba Hydropower stations operating in tandem. This paper addressed the optimal regulation of the operating head of the Jebba hydropower reservoir in the presence of system constraints, flow requirement and environmental factors that are weather-related. The resulting two-point boundary value problem was solved using the progressive expansion of domain technique as against the shooting or multiple shooting techniques. The results provide the optimal inflow required to keep the operating head of the Jebba reservoir at a nominal level, hence ensuring that the maximum number of turbo-alternator units are operated.
Enhanced MPPT Technique For DC-DC Luo Converter Using Model Predictive Contro...IJERD Editor
The present study explored an enhanced maximum power point tracking technique which ensures fast tracking in PV systems. This system represents a Model Predictive Control (MPC) MPPT technique. Extracting the maximum power from PV systems has been widely investigated. The main benefaction of this article is an improvement of the Perturb and Observe (P&O) method through a fixed step predictive control under measured fast solar radiation. The preferred predictive control to achieve Maximum Power Point (MPP) speeds up the control loop since it predicts error before the switching signal is applied to the DC-DC Luo converter. Comparing the improved technique to the conventional P&O method indicates significant improvement in PV system performance. The proposed MPC-MPPT technique for a Luo converter is implemented using the MAT LAB SIMULINK

Comparative Study on the Performance of A Coherency-based Simple Dynamic Equi...IJAPEJOURNAL
Earlier, a simple dynamic equivalent for a power system external area containing a group of coherent generators was proposed in the literature. This equivalent is based on a new concept of decomposition of generators and a two-level generator aggregation. With the knowledge of only the passive network model of the external area and the total inertia constant of all the generators in this area, the parameters of this equivalent are determinable from a set of measurement data taken solely at a set of boundary buses which separates this area from the rest of the system. The proposed equivalent, therefore, does not require any measurement data at the external area generators. This is an important feature of this equivalent. In this paper, the results of a comparative study on the performance of this dynamic equivalent aggregation with the new inertial aggregation in terms of accuracy are presented. The three test systems that were considered in this comparative investigation are the New England 39-bus 10-generator system, the IEEE 162-bus 17-generator system and the IEEE 145-bus 50-generator system.

Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

8. Proposed methodology
O The mathematical formulation for the
proposed methodology is given in (1) and
(2)
O k is de kth sample. N samples are taken
to complete a cycle.
O The first step is to filter z to mitigate the
error e.
9. Proposed methodology
O The filter is based on Fourier transform:
O Function represented by Fourier coefficients
O In the discrete time-domain
O The key consist in consider only the harmonic coefficients of
interest when the measurement be rebuilt
10. Proposed methodology
O The second step is develop a mathematical formulation to
relate the measurements with state variable in the discrete-
time.
O To discretize the continuous time differential equations, the
central method is used
O Preliminary results have been reported in the North American
Power Symposium 2015.
O The proposed method has been extended to unbalanced case
where it is necessary model the network by a three-phase
circuit.
12. Conclusions
O A methodology for time domain harmonic state estimation for
unbalanced case assessment in power networks using filtered
measurements based on Fourier transform has been proposed.
O The performance of the proposed methodology has been
validated through direct comparison of the estimated state
variables against the actual variables response. In all the
analyzed cases a close agreement between the estimated and
the actual response has been achieved.
O The proposed methodology does not require an accurate
previous knowledge of the harmonic sources nor initial
conditions. It only needs of a snapshot of voltage and current
during at time interval of interest to estimate the harmonic state.
O Although the accuracy of estimation depends on device
placement, the error due to location has been relatively small,
i.e. for the analyzed cases it has been kept below 0.23%.
