This document summarizes a research paper that proposes a hybrid selective active filter configuration to mitigate harmonics from an induction furnace. The hybrid filter uses both shunt passive and active filters. PQ theory is used to control the active filter and obtain switching signals. Simulations in MATLAB show the potential of the selective filter to control harmonics. The THD of supply currents is reduced from over 25-37% without the filter to under 2% with the filter. The research demonstrates an effective method for compensating harmonics from an induction furnace load using a hybrid selective active filter controlled by PQ theory.
