Thermometer is an instrument for
measuring and indicating
temperature.

6. Liquid thermometer:
These thermometers are based on the
principle of change in volume 0f a liquid
with change in temperature.
Gas thermometer:
Based on the principle of change in
pressure.

7. Resistance thermometer:
Based on the principle of change in
resistance with change in temperature.
Thermo electric thermometer:
Based on the thermo electricity ie,
production of thermo E M F in thermo
couple, when two junction are at
different temperatures.

8. Temperature Measure Scale:
Kelvin Scale: Kelvin temperature scale
based on 273.15°K for the freezing
point of water and 373.15°K for the
boiling point of water. When writing
temperatures in the Kelvin scale
Suggested by Lord William Thomson
Kelvin 1848.

9. Centigrade scale:
Celsius in 1742 suggested the
centigrade system of temperature. He
marked zero at the lower point and
100 at the upper fixed point. The
interval between the two fixed points
is divided into equal parts.

10. Fahrenheit scale:
 Fahrenheit 1720 suggested this scale by
taking zero as the temperature of the
freezing mixture. The lower fixed point is
32⁰F and upper fixed point marked as 212.
The temperature of the human body on
this scale is 98.4⁰F. The interval divided
into 180 equal parts.

11. Rankine Scale:
 Rankine temperature scale based on
491.67°R for the freezing point of
water and 671.64°R for boiling point
of water. When writing temperature
in Rankine scale. Suggested by
William John Macquorn Rankine
1859.
