• Denotation
– A reptile with no limbs the
animal also can have a
venomous bite which can kill
humans and large and small
animals.
• Connotation
Connotations of this animal
may include reptile , danger ,
slimy and scary.

3. Flag
• Denotation
• The UK flag is red white an blue
and symbolises the countries
which are Wales Scotland and
Northern Ireland.
• Connotation
• Freedom , queen , London ,
Scotland , wales , northern
Ireland , solidarity and Royal
family.

4. Gun
• Denotation
– A weapon that can cause harm to
animals as well as humans due to
the fast speeds the bullets move
when the gun is shot.
• Connotation
– Blood and danger are mainly
associated with guns as of events
where people have died due to
guns. Also gun has connotations
such as gang and terrorism.

5. You can tell that the guys behind the kid
are bad because they are wearing black
and are pulling facial expressions which
make them look suspicious , also the bad
guy (Marv) has a torch shinning on to the
kid.
The kid (Kevin) is pulling a facial
expression which shows him to be
scared or possibly in danger. Kevin
also looks quite innocent and weak
as he is a kid.
The color red on Kevin's jumper also
symbolizes and shows that something
dangerous is going to happen.
The snow in the background shows that it
Is winter where they are. The winter
setting makes the kid look more innocent
because he is all alone and cold.
The title which contains a small ‘e’ could symbolize
him as he is the odd one out of his family as they have
all gone away. The ‘e’ also shows that he is weak and
innocent as he is the smallest letter.

6. The young kid is wearing yellow which
symbolizes happiness and freshness.
This kid is therefore happy until he
sees this clown.
The balloon is used as most kids
like balloons therefore he is
trying to pull the kid in as he will
most likely take the balloon from
the clown. The clown is basically
deceiving the kid as he knows
that he is going to take the
balloon
The black and grey symbolizes
death and evil. This shows the
audience that someone will
probably get killed or something
evil will happen.
The red balloon and
text also symbolizes
blood and evil , this
shows the audience
that something bad is
going to happen to the
boy.
Clowns are normally targeted towards kids at circuses and
parties , which is why it has been used. However some
people are scared of clowns this kid doesn't’t look as if he
is scared because he is looking in his eyes.

7. The bad guy in this is the
exterminator as he is
obviously tying to kill the
animals. The colour orange
symbolizes joy and
happiness therefore the
exterminator is happy to be
killing them animals , this
shows him to be the
antagonist.
From the poster you can easily tell that this is a comedy movie
because of the animals of the trailer. This shows it’s a comedy
as the animals are hanging on to a trailer of food.
The movie poster also shows
that the movie is for kids
under a certain age due to
the animation and
characters.
The use of orange in
the title shows that
this movie is full of
joy and happiness
therefore its mainly
for kids

a prisoner as well as

makes him look like

8. Soundtrack

– Horror , this is because it has a
high pitch to it. The pitch
gradually gets higher and higher
which ultimately creates a jump
scare.
• Clip 2
– Animation (Disney), adventure
and fantasy this is because the
music is quite mysical. This
music is also quite childish as It
is a soft beat.

9. Shining
• They have used a soft music beat instead the
high pitch scary music. They have also
included romantic scenes such as the kissing
instead of quick jump scares. There are also
scenes where the kid and dad look happy and
joyful instead of being on edge.

10. Scary Mary
• They have used scary effects like a church bell.
They have also used a lot of black instead a
bright vibrant colours as black symbolises evil
and death. They have also added a flashing
black screen along with a high pitch sound
track. There is also scenes of kids running and
falling instead of scenes of happy on joyful
kids.

18. Clip Analysis
• Darth Vader is wearing a full black outfit. Black symbolizes evil and death
therefore that may have been the impression the director would want to
give to the audience. Darth Vader isn’t also showing his identity which
shows that he doesn’t want people know who he is which makes the
audience question his identity and suspicious characteristics. The red light
saber he has also represents that he is bad as red has connotations such
as blood and evil. The kid in this clip has a blue saber which shows that he
is a good guy as blue has nicer connotations such as stability and faith.
Darth Vader's breathing also adds tension to the kid as when he normally
does that breath something bad happens. The classic star wars music also
creates tension as it normally plays when a fight is occurring. The dark
setting could also represents Darth Vader's colour as its his territory.
When the woman says “come on , come on” this suggests that Darth
Vader is to powerful for them to handle therefore they have to flee the
situation. The camera has also focused on Darth Vader as he is the main
character.
