2. Snake
The denotation of a snake is a long scaly limbless
reptile with no eye lids and has a short tail. Snakes
also capable of considerable extension from the jaw.
A snake connotes to being tricky, cold hearted,
disloyal, evil or betrayal. This is because we have
seen images for snakes or snakes in films in a role
that makes you feel threaten. (As shown in the
images). However, we may have not actually seen
one.

For this flag, the denotation is a symbol of a
country by using a piece of cloth which is
rectangle. The colours are clearly red, blue and
white. This is attachable by one edge to a pole
or rope. This can also be used for decoration.
Connotation: Representing St George are red
and white. The colour red connotes to
strength, power and determination. This could
show what the country is like. The colour white
connotes to light and goodness.
St Andrew for Scotland are blue and white
The dark blue colour connotes to knowledge,
power and seriousness. The colour white
connotes to purity. Both St George and St
Andrew have used the colour white. This
maybe because it is considered to be the
colour of perfection.

making a characteristic loud, sharp noise. This
combines a metal tube which bullets are forced.
A gun can represent many things. It could be used
for recreational purposes such as sporting events or
for hunting. People think that those who carries
guns are insecure in themselves and they live in fear.
Also, a gun can represent victory for some and
power for others.

8. Soundtrack
Clip 1:
Genre: Thriller or Sci – Fi
The music links in with the image as she is about to murder him so
she gives him the last look and pulls out a knife from the back of skirt.
I think the warrior is about to slay the fire breathing dragon and then
at the end when the music gets more intense, the warrior dies as the
fire dragon eats him whole.
The audience might think that the sound reminds them of a scary
movie or story from when they were younger.
Clip 2:
Genre: Fantasy
The music links in with the image as they both secretly love each
other but don’t know it. They are both robots underneath and one
day they randomly meet each other in the park and with their robot
dogs.
I think the female character is dancing around the forest, really happy
because she has found her Prince. The autumn weather making the
orange and red leaves fall around her.
The audience might think that the sound makes them feel when they
fell in love or when they first found crush.

9. Shining
They have used upbeat music throughout the trailer, this makes the audience know
that the movie would be a romantic comedy or a general happy movie. They have a
narrator throughout the trailer who speaks with a clear and an amount of emotional
charm to the intended audience. He introduces the characters in the film so the
audience knows who they are and he tell us what their aims are in the film. When the
narrator says ‘But now….’ the music goes all mysterious as Danny the child is looking
up at the door. The music carries on to be upbeat when Johnny comes into their lives
and this time the song has lyrics whilst I shows the emotions of each character.

10. Scary Mary
In the trailer they have used bad weather to make it look scary and dark. Also, the
sound of the church bells going off whilst the person in he trailer is walking away. The
music of eerie stretched out words by a woman singing/talking. The children at the
window and the curtains blowing whilst there is a woman with an umbrella flying in
the sky which you can clearly see though the white fog and dark sky. The words ‘… she
appears’ and the next slide is of the same woman in the mirror whilst another woman
walking past to show that she is watching. Then the children jump up an the music
increases to be more sharp. The quick slides showing all the ‘scary’ things she can do
e.g. pushing the table over, the curtains blowing, the jack in the box going mental and
the little girl going up the chimney. The music gets more quick and very sharp when
things get more ‘scary’ in the house. The music from the beginning comes back on
when the words ‘hide your children’ appears.

Narrative Definition:
A product’s storyline
Linear Narrative Definition:
A storyline that is presented in the order; beginning, middle and end.
Linear Narrative Film Example:
Cinderella as it does not have any flashbacks and is a normal structured movie.
Non-Linear Narrative Definition:
A storyline that jumps around the product’s timeline; out of order/sequence, flashbacks, flash-
forwards
Non-Linear Narrative Film Example:
The Social Network by David Fincher because it isn’t a normal structured movie as it jumps back
and forth.

18. Clip Analysis
The Darth Vader vs Kanan clip starts off with an intense sound whilst Darth Vader
walks in through the doors. This is to show how scary and powerful he is. The music
gets more intense and sharper throughput the fighting. The dialogue is his friends
protecting him by saying ‘Go, I’ll cover you!’ The props they have used are the light
sabers from the Star Wars movie. When Darth Vader is trying to kill the Ezra with his
own saber the camera moves up closely up both of their faces to show their facial
expressions or their movements. They use extreme wide shot at the beginning to
show Darth Vader walking through the doors and to see the rest of the area. In this
clip they have used a master shot to show where the fighting will be held. When the
two pillars blow up, they use another wide shot to show the audience the pillars
blowing up and the character’s movements.
