Poster Analysis 1
This poster is set under water as you can see from the blue
background which is meant to represent a cold and possibly scary
atmosphere. The two small fish set at the front of the poster seem
to be the main characters as they’re the most colourful compared
to their surroundings. The lighting is coming down on the shark,
illuminating it’s teeth and large body which tells us the shark is the
evil character in this film. The shark is also looking down at the two
fish while the two fish are looking at the audience, focusing our
attention on them. The very edges of the poster is in black,
suggesting the darkness and dangers that surround these two
characters. The text below is very wavy, representing their location
and the sea around them.
Poster Analysis 2
There are many colours in this poster. The background is full of tall
mushrooms in a range of different and bright colours telling us it’s a
fairly cheerful atmosphere. The abnormally large mushrooms
compared to the actors tells the audience it’s set in a fantasy world.
The character at the very front is wearing a mix of pink, purple, black,
white and brown, along with bright orange hair. The use of different
colours and make up suggests that he’s a fairly crazy and joyful
character and plays a big part in this film. He’s walking quite quickly
and excitedly, as we can see his clothing blowing behind him. A white
rabbit stands behind him, wearing a blue waistcoat. He’s pointing to a
watch and staring straight at the viewers, making us believe that this
watch is important. A curious looking girl is beside the rabbit, wearing
a long, blue dress which can represent a cold and/or positive
character. Some strange vines cover the very front of the poster,
which hints at a possibility of some sort of evil existing in this world.
The text is also very wonky and crazy, confirming this strange world
this film is set in.
Poster Analysis 3
The first thing you see when you look at this poster is the character in
the front, staring directly at the camera to gain our attention. Taking a
closer look, we can see how she has extremely pale skin and glowing
blue eyes. This can tell us that she has a possibly positive but very
cold personality, indicating that she’s the villain in this story. She’s
wearing a very dark outfit and seems to have a set of horns on her
head, also implying that she’s on the bad side. Her face is very sharp
and unfriendly looking while her clothing looks a lot more bright and
colourful, showing the good side to the story. A girl is lying down
beside a tree and seems to be asleep. Three fairies are flying around
her and it’s set in a magical forest which probably means this is a
fantasy film. The girl lying down doesn’t seem to be any kind of threat
and looks to be fairly peaceful. This might mean she is on the good
side.
Soundtrack
• Clip 1
• The first clip makes the scene seem romantic
and joyful, like a very powerful moment is
about to happen within this scene.
• Clip 2
• The second clip makes the scene a lot more
dramatic and scary, making the audience
believe that something terrible is about to
happen.
Shining
• The person who edited this film specifically took
some upbeat and funny shots of the main character,
Jack, while playing cheerful music. We can see Jack
smiling and having fun and there doesn’t seem to be
anything out of the ordinary. The video moves on to
show Danny and continues to use upbeat music to
set the theme of the film. New characters are
introduced and they all seem to be one happy family
rather than what the story original was.
Scary Mary
• The start of the trailer shows a dark and spooky clip of
someone walking through a foggy park. We can hear wind
blowing in the background and a muffled voice. Scary music
begins playing and Mary Poppins appears on screen in a really
unsettling environment. Loud whispering is the scary music
continues to play throughout the trailer and shots of kids
looking terrified are shown.

Narrative
• Narrative Definition
• A story explained through images, videos, spoken and written words, true
or made up events, experiences or accounts for a poem, book,
documentary, comic, film, song and others.
• Linear Narrative Definition
• We see the film or story being told in order from start to finish from the
beginning to the end.
• Linear Narrative Film Example
• ‘Ratatouille’ is a perfect example of a linear narrative, the story following
the events of the main character in the order that they appeared.
Narrative
• Non-Linear Narrative Definition
• This is where the story is explained out of order. It could start with a
flashback or a clip from a future event this character may go through and
then suddenly move to the present time.
• Non-Linear Narrative Film Example
• ‘Cruella’ in an example on a non-linear film. The story begins with the
main characters backstory by including a flashback, the character
explaining what happened in their life before they got to where they are
now (present time).
Clip Analysis
• The scene begins with Darth Vader slowly walking forwards, the camera gradually zooming on his
face. The lighting is directed at the back of him and dramatic music slowly builds up the closer he
gets. The camera moves behind him, showing us the characters in front of Darth Vadar. The area
around them is very dark and eerie. Darth Vader is wearing a completely black outfit made of metal
while the good characters are wearing different colours like blue, green and yellow. Darth Vader's
weapon is red, representing evil and dark energy while the good guys have blue, which can mean
pure and innocent. The camera keep switching between the good and evil, not focusing on one
scene for too long before switching. At one point, Darth Vader is looking at them as they're trying to
escape from the enemy and the background is full of smoke and flames, really making him stand
out and show the audience how scary and powerful he is. The very last scene shows Darth Vader
looking out into the dark blue sky as they escape, the camera angle really setting the scene and
showing us how he was defeated.
