The transatlantic slave trade lasted from the 15th century to the late 19th century. Millions of African slaves were transported by European countries to the Americas to work on plantations. Britain transported the most slaves with over 2.6 million, followed by Portugal, Spain, France, and other countries. The slave trade significantly impacted populations in Africa and changed the demographic makeup of societies in the Americas.

- - Slavery was practiced in Africa before the beginning of the Atlantic slave trade. -The Atlantic slave trade is customarily divided into two eras, known as the First and Second Atlantic Systems. -The first atlantic system was the trade of enslaved Africans to, primarily, South American colonies of the portuguese and spanish empires. conpared to the whole atlantic trade it was only like 3%.
