The Caddo culture declined between 1300-1700 AD as Europeans began exploring North America. Spain and France colonized the region, introducing horses, weapons, and new religions as well as diseases. While some Europeans viewed Native Americans as savages, the Caddo tribe was friendly and negotiated for peace after settlers took their lands. Caddo culture continues today thanks to archaeologists and historians, though looting sites remains a threat.
