Great Britain Dbq
During the early 1500s and mid 1600s western civilization went through major change with the
protestant reformation. One county that was affected by the reformation during this time was Great
Britain. Leading up to its reformation Great Britain had key factors within the english reformation
that distinguish it from the protestant reformationand its entirety. What makes this religious change
different is the cause of this event happening. Some historians like to blame or give credit to the
woman, Anne Boleyn, for the drastic change that occurred within England s church in the 16th
century. Saying that Boleyn was a reformist and wanted the protestant reformation to reach Great
britain. While others believe that Anne Boleyn was not influential in change of England s religious
change from catholic to anglicanism. After extensive research it is easy to see that there is no
evidence that can prove Anne Boleyn having responsibility for the dramatic... Show more content

The English Reformation was a detailed process, in 16th century England, where the Church of
England broke ties with the authority of the pope and the Roman Catholic Church. It all began with
King Henry VIII marriage with Catherine of Aragon. After years of marriage Catherine had not
produced a male heir who survived into adulthood angering the King. With this in mind King
Henry will set his eyes own Anne Boleyn who was a maid of honor to Queen Catherine. By the
late 1520s, Henry wanted his marriage to Catherine annulled, claiming it to be invalid due to the
fact that Catherine was his late brothers wife making it wrong for Henry VIII to be allowed to
marry her. In 1527 Henry asked the Pope, Pope Clement VII, to annul his marriage. The pope
refused in fear of the Queen s nephew, Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V. this

Informative Speech On The Black Sox Scandal
General Purpose: I will inform the class about an event in history.
Specific Purpose: I would like to inform people on the 1919 Black Sox Scandal in Major League
Baseball.
Introduction
Attention Getter: In 2008 the New York Giants won the Super Bowl by defeating the previously
unbeaten New England Patriots in what most sports fans call one of the greatest upsets in sports
history. What would you think if I told you the Patriots lost the game on purpose? They didn t, but
in 1919 eight members of the Chicago White Sox conspired to intentionally lose the World Series
against the Cincinnati Reds in what people now refer to as the Black Sox Scandal.
Speaker Credibility:
My uncle is a huge sports buff and he s often talked to me about this specific scandal. I remember
growing up and still hearing how upset this scandal made him. Its something that still prevalent in
todays sports.
Relate the topic to the audience:
You all probably have watched sports at some time and it should be very interesting for you guys to
know about some drama within the sports industry.
Specific purpose:
Today I want to share with you the story of the black sox scandal of 1919.
Preview of Main Points:
I will talk to you about why the Whitesoxs were the favorites, why the Whitesoxs players didn t like
their management, and how that affected how baseball changed his management.
Body
A.Transition: Heading into the World Series the White Sox were heavy favorites, and people in
both cities believed they would make quick work of the Reds.
I.Throughout the time leading up to the 1919 World Series, reporters in both Chicago and
Cincinnati spoke about how good the World Series would be, and the odds makers listed the White
Sox as heavy favorites.
A.The former MLB pitcher Cristy Mathewson, predicted the best played series in years .
1.He gave the edge on pitching to the Reds, but believed the White Sox offense and experience
gave them a better chance at victory.

making them ready for a fight

Analysis Of The Film, Edward Scissorhands, Directed By Tim...
My theme Outsiders in society how appearances can be deceiving I think is very important to
the film Edward Scissorhands; directed by Tim Burton, as the theme is repeated throughout the
film. My theme has a general importance because its shows the other side of society that we don
t get to see or notice too often. The group of individuals on the other side constantly shows the
challenges they face, and the different ways of living are often ignored because they don t fit into
the current society. This brings up a strong contrast and compare between what society defines as
normal and what is abnormal. My theme tells us that their appearances are often deceiving and we
should learn to to give them a chance. This means you are also more... Show more content on

Edward (the outsider) is introduced into the bright society below and I noted he is readily
accepted by most as they got to know him more. Edward I thought also became happier
compared to his sad face in the beginning and more confident in himself and others as he was
recognised by the suburban society. However the betrayal of robbing a house by Edward later in
the film meant he was framed, forced to leave and return to the place where he came from. I
thought this was cruel and inhuman as Jim, who told Edward to break into the house was using
him as he could open any house with his scissors. He had no knowledge of what he was doing
and was unfortunately framed and Edward being all the more vulnerable because of his
appearance. I thought Carol (a member of the suburb) makes a strong connection to Edward s
appearance by talking on the phone to the other suburb neighbours Joyce, I just saw this strange
guy driving with Peg... I didn t get a good look at him, he looked kind of pale. I felt quite curious
in the way that Carol felt to see this new character in the suburb and shared this same feeling
with many others in the film. Edward was very welcomed by Peg (who found Edward) and so,
he meet the rest of the people in the suburb and was accepted to be more involved in their society.
This reminded me of the text: Perks of being a Wallflower, where an anonymous person (named
Charlie) describes himself as an outsider. It is quite unique as he knows what other people say

Pros And Cons Of Railway Transport
Nowadays, railways transports have become very convenience for industrial sector and consumer
sectors. Through the experience of riding train, I figure out the rail track, terminal, train unit and
the power car has effect on the performance of railways transports. Besides that, I also able to
compare the bus transport service and the railway transport service. Both of them have the different
in the service provided and the pros and cons of the service.
2.1 RAIL TRACK
Rail track can be known as the railroad or railway, is the permanent way for the train. The track
will provide a space for the rail s wheel to roll and move on it. It will avoid the rail to direct
contact with the ground. In Malaysia, the rail track that usually is double tracking line, the double

The Pursuit Of Possession Marketed By Popular Brands Essay
We communicate who we are through fashion. Fashion is poetic through textures, color, design,
and expression which signifies how connected we are to our clothes. Consumers rely on fashions
status quo to appeal to their need to buy the best from the best retail markets, yet still have an
unawareness of a don t ask, don t tell oblivion towards production of these expensive marvels. The
target of the pursuit of possession marketed by popular brands will make people focus more on
materialistic value instead of the reinvention of the fashionmarket in how our clothes are really
made. That pair of jeans you saw in a Black Friday sale advertisement, or a crew neck long sleeve
shirt on sale at H M caught your eye because to you, its worth the bargain, but to the person who
made this item for you, it wasn t worth their demise. The ill informed consumers of the fashion
industry are unknowingly supportive to the abusive labor practices of exploited sweatshopworkers
on the production of our clothingwhile glorifying expensive brands made from the hands of
penniless workers. The focus of this paper is to be the voice of those workers, who make these
pleasantries with literally their own blood, sweat, and tears that us consumers take for granted,
while shedding some much needed light on the nefarious acts on sweatshop workers.
In the most labor dependent industry on earth, workers have no voice. The supply chain is
constantly on the rise, globalization of production is outsourced

Prince Sports has managed to remain in their field, but the task was not easy. They have been in
business for over forty years and have continued to evolve to fit the needs of the consumers while
also managing to expand their products. In doing so, they have needed to keep their company
ahead of trends that have occurred in the market. So far, they have managed to do so, but with the
continuously changing market and economy, Prince Sports needs to constantly be performing
research on how to stay ahead. They also have to take in to consideration how these changes are
going to affect the products and customers they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same can be said for trends and products. They have witnessed what a mistake it is to ignore
their past progress and simply focus on what is next. While it is important to spend a great deal of
time working towards advancement, especially in a market that is rising. However, it is very
difficult to ignore what brought about all of these changes and what has been working (Kerin,
Hartley amp; Rudelius, 2013).
Another challenge that they may face includes economic changes. Since, Prince Sports markets
their product internationally, they need to pay attention to the economies of all the countries they
distribute to. Significant changes in an economy can greatly change their customer base and needs
resulting in new marketing tactics having to be put in place (Benoit amp; Gleason, 2012).
Prince Sports can stay ahead of the changes they possibly face if they keep in mind when Linda
Glassel said It s learning, it s studying, it s talking to people who understand where the market is
going (Pg. 241). In order to stay ahead and take on any challenges that come their way, they need
to employ research methods that can help them solve their problems and come up with new ideas
for marketing their products. Besides using the Five Step marketing approach, there are specific
aspects they should pay close attention to. As a part of step three, they need to collect data, both

The Southern Stereotype Essay
Long Live Southern Stereotypes
Ever since Scarlett O Hara struggled to find love and Andy Taylor was elected Mayberry s Sheriff,
filmmakers and television producers have yet to lose any fondness for stereotyping the southern
culture. There are many who despise any form of labeling or stereotyping within the media, fearing
false characterizations or inaccurate portrayals of southern customs, traditions, and people.
Exposure to southern stereotypes through media is an appealing element in the American lifestyle
that can render endearing impressions, contribute genuine metaphors, and provide viewers with a
unique and fascinating (whether positive or negative) glimpse toward a regional culture.
The mass media, or media at large, would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are pointed descriptions, but they are true and the American culture loves (and loves to hate)
the southern stereotype and it is here to stay.
Now what about those who may have that southern stereotypical drawl? Southern accents do not
make one stupid; being stupid does. Southerners should be proud of the southern accent.
However, the media has managed to cause dismay among many southerners who possess the
engaging and attractive drawl. Should a visitor traveling to North Dakota, view a Fargo native as
stupid or ignorant because of the distinct accent heard there? Should a North Dakota resident
ridicule a person from the Bronx because of the peculiar accent heard there? Somehow people are
ashamed of their unique speech patterns rather than being proud of a colloquial accent. The
southern stereotype will be here for a long time to come, so love it and embrace it.
According to Jack G. Shaheen in his essay titled, The Media s Image of Arabs, Hollywood
producers must have instant kits that contain sunglasses, Arab clothing, tents, and mosques in order
to provide a snapshot of Hollywood s stereotypical Arab (99). Undoubtedly, the same holds true
when depicting the typical southern example. Whether one

The Face Of Insanity Or Pure Evil
Medea: The Face of Insanity or Pure Evil
In Medea by Euripides, an unfortunate tragedy arose from devastating circumstances, centralizing
around intense grief and rage. In the center of the horrific situation was Medea, who was the
daughter of King Aeetes. She was the former wife of Jason until he decided to abandon his family
and duties as the head of the household by marrying Glauce, the Princess of Corinth. She murdered
her children, Glauce, and Creon, the King of Corinth to satiate her overwhelming lust for blood and
revenge. Undeniably, Medea is the epitome of the phrase, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.
Her burning desire for vengeance and destruction extended far beyond intense passion. Thus,
leading to the question: Is Medea, simply, the face of insanity or pure evil? Although her actions
were horrific and barbaric enough to be considered an ailment of insanity, the reality was that she
was the devil incarnate considering she strategically formulated a plan to achieve her demented
agenda. Evidently, Medea was not insane and did not commit the murder out of insanity, but pure
evil, which is fully crystal clear from her deranged actions and thoughts.
Medea is the poster child of an individual that is clearly evil. Even prior to the murders, she
displayed signs of pure wickedness and evil. For instance, Medea instigated the murder of King
Pelias by encouraging and manipulating his daughters to engage in patricide. Medea tricked Pelias
daughters into

religious teachings and this grew in Germany. After years of battling for religious reforms, a new
religion was formed named Lutheranism. Between 1524 and 1526, German peasants began to

serfdom and corrupt leaders in the Holy Roman Empire, and both positive and negative responses
were seen. Most positive responses were seen by peasants while most negative responses were
shown by some religious leaders and Holy Roman Empire leaders. Many peasants, seeing these...

CO2 is released as a waste product. The 2 carbon acetyl group binds to coenzyme A. At this point,
the process starts to move into the mitochondria and the Krebs Cycle is initiated. There is a net
gain of 2 ATP and 2 molecules of NADH produced.
During Krebs Cycle, the acetyl CoA breaks down further into two molecules of carbon dioxide
during each turn of the cycle. In the process, the molecules FAD and NAD are reduced to FADH2
and NADH. 2 ATP is generated during the Krebs Cycle.
The reduced FADH2 and NADH enter the Electron Transport System where they are re oxidized to
FAD and NAD. These electrons release energy which forms 32 ATP molecules.
During aerobic respiration, there is a total net gain of 36 ATP.

The Irish Easter Rebellion 1916 Essay
The 1916 Irish Easter Uprising
Ever since the occupation of Ireland by the English began in 1169, Irish patriots have fought back
against British rule, and the many Irish rebellions and civil wars had always been defeated. To
quash further rebellion, the Act of Union was imposed in 1800, tying Ireland to the United Kingdom
of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Laws discriminating against Catholics and the handling of
the Irish Potato Famine of 1845 50 led to increased tension and the proposal of introducing Home
Rule gained support.
In 1913 there was a general strike of workers in Dublin led by James Connolly of the Irish

It was a call for a blood sacrifice in order to free Ireland from British rule. In organising an

I.R.B. and on St. Patrick s Day (17th March), Connolly took his Citizen Army on a tour of key
Dublin sites which could be used as strategic strongholds during an uprising.
However, there were many difficulties in organising and executing such a rebellion and one thing
the rebels needed were weapons. Sir Roger Casement had organised for a shipment of as many as
200,000 rifles to be smuggled into Ireland on a neutral German freighter, the Aud. But when
Casement arrived in Ireland on a German submarine he was arrested immediately and the freighter
was intercepted by the Royal Navy and scuttled itself. Another attempt was made to gain large
quantities of arms and ammunition during the actual uprising from the arsenal at Phoenix Park
known as Magazine Fort. However this was not very successful and the rebels seized only a few
rifles.
Throughout the organisation of the rebellion, Eoin MacNeill, leader of the minority Volunteers had
to be kept in the dark about the I.R.B. s plans because he believed that his Irish Volunteersshould

The Rise Of The Creative Class
Chicago Heights is located only about thirty miles away from one of the largest metros in the
United States. Yet it does not come close to the resources needed for it to be a successful city,
nevertheless, a creative one. But the city wasn t always relinquished from being prosperous. Back
in the late 70 s and early 80 s, there was no better place to be in then Chicago Heights. The
factories and businesses were booming, and the unemployment rates were declining. At least that s
how Elizabeth Fushi Peterson, teacher at Bloom High School, remembers it. I spoke with her
earlier last month in regards to Richard Floridas theory on the Creative Classand the idea of a
creative city.
In his book, The Rise of The Creative Class Revisited, Richard Florida introduces the Creative
Class as individuals who engage is work to create new forms (38). Florida s Creative Class
theory is that if the creative class was aware of how powerful they are, they could impact our
economy and our culture. In accordance to how Richard Florida explains who would be in the
Creative Class theory, Mrs. Fushi Peterson belongs to it. Yet she decided to move from a creative
city to Chicago Heights, a not so creative city. This contradicts Florida s ideas of a creative
lifestyle that is attached with the membership of being a creative. Which brings me to explore how
important location to creative individuals, and how cities try to attract the Creative Class members.

were many different reasons why colonists were revolutionaries or loyalists. Sometimes they

The most famous patriot at the time was probably the first President of the United States George
Washington who led the Continental Army. Other famous Patriots included Paul Revere, Samuel

argument here are some famous loyalists. Since the loyalists lost the war, there weren t as many
famous loyalists as there are Patriots. Benedict Arnold was a general in the Continental Army who
fought for the British. Another example of a loyalist was Joseph Galloway who was the
Pennsylvania delegate to the Continental Congress but later started to work for the British army.
Other famous loyalists could be Thomas Hutchinson (the governor of Massachusetts colony),
Andrew Allen, John Butler (the leader of the loyalist s troops Butler s Rangers), and David

However, the biggest difference is the price. The Fusion is $16,379, and the Prius is $20,061,
both being certified used vehicles and both using suggested retail value ( Kelly Blue Book ).
Now you may ask why the price difference, why would you pay for the extra mileage but less
horsepower? Well what the Prius lacks in power and affordability it makes up in gas prices. Yes
the MPG is an estimate based on driving style, however it will get better mileage than the Fusion
and therefore saving all the money you would normally spend on gas to put towards the
payments or the maintenance it requires. Which is of worthy mentioning, the cost of repairs for
the Prius is significantly high than the Fusion as it requires a certified hybrid vehicle mechanic
to repair it. The Fusion can be repair by your everyday do it yourself mechanic. So in the long
run the Fusion is a cheaper and more intelligent option for a family vehicle. Before you consider
a hybrid vehicle for economic reasons, such as leaving less of a carbon foot print, or not making
as much carbon monoxide output as you would driving a normal gasoline powered car, realize this,
to get the materials necessary for the hybrid motors it requires an extreme amount of mining and
relocation of wildlife. Not to forget the enormous amount of tailings and hazards left behind as a
byproduct of the materials needed. This causes more damage to the environment than the emissions

Heart Of Darkness, By Joseph Conrad
The political philosopher Benjamin Constant argued, no one has a right to a truth which injures
others. The question of lying has been debated for centuries: where should one draw the line with
lying? Should one try to never tell lies? Can the public handle the truth? In Joseph Conrad s novella
Heart of Darkness, Marlow, the protagonist, tried to answer this conundrum. He lied three times
during the course of his story, each time becoming larger than the last. As the philosopher Kant
argued, once a lieis told, the concept of truthitself is attacked, leading to increasingly great lies
until they become too large for the liar himself. In this novella, Marlow began by lying to someone
of no consequence; subsequently he lied to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A reader wants to trust the author. The way the book is written, as someone else s story, makes the
reader question what is being said. How does one know that the speaker is trustworthy when they
can tell he is hiding his true feelings from himself and the others at some parts in the story?
The first time that Marlow introduced the idea of lying is when he let the first class agent at the
Central Station believe he was more influential than he actually was. After committing this
minor falsehood, he explained in depth that it was unusual for him to lie, as if to assure the
reader not to worry. Explaining not only to the men on the Nellie, but also to the readers, You

he did not lie ever, but that when he did, it as for a specific, important reason. He lowered

The game was initially played with peach baskets with a small hole in the bottom for a rod to
poke the ball out, but they slowed the pace of the game as the ball would need to be removed
after a made shot. The first improvement to the peach basket came a year after basketball s
invention when the wire rim was introduced. It was not until 1906 that the metal rim and
backboard were made standard (Basketball Equipment). Also, basketball was first played with a
soccer ball. When the first ball was designed specifically to be a basketball it was brown, making
it hard for players and spectators to track. It was not until the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle, Butler
coach and president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches from 1954 to 1955,
designed an easily visible orange ball (Basketball Equipment). As for size, the ball was first

Small Talk Essay
Small Talk
We ve all engaged in some sort of small talk either in the office, on campus, at a party, or other
places where you find yourself in the company of others. For some of us, participating in small
talk may come easily, while for others it may be quite difficult. Some individuals may find small
talk to be irritating while others find it a necessity. In this paper I am going to explore what
exactly defines small talk as such; the reasons why people find the need to engage in small talk;
the benefits, and disadvantages of small talk; is there an ethical approach to small talk; and provide
tips on how to participate in small talk without it creating an uncomfortable atmosphere.

Wendy Warman, co author of Loud and Clear: How to Prepare and Deliver Effective Business and
Technical Presentations, gives instructional seminars on how to effectively participate in small talk
for big success. Warman discusses the importance of small talk in order to improve communication,
boost sales, enhance customer service and increase profits in any organization or industry. These
are all very important benefits, which I think everyone could find use for.
Now that we more thoroughly understand the basic means of small talk and what small talk
actually consists of, we need to be aware of the topics chosen for these conversations. There is an
ethical approach to small talk and ethical judgments need to be made. Very frequently small talk
is shared between individuals whom do not know each other well, therefore there are many
forbidden topics that should be avoided. When people do not know each other well it is not a wise
decision to discuss personal information such as salaries or divorce.
Two main topics that should be avoided are religion and politics. The foundationalist s view
should not be considered here since everyone s justified beliefs on these topics might vary. The
intent of small talk should basically be to get to know someone better, keeping in mind other
peoples feelings. Raised emotion may arise if one of these topics is brought

Dehumanization In Bartleby The Scrivener
The character of Bartleby in Herman Melville s novella Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall
Street is a person who refuses to become an object in capitalistic society. Initially, he is the perfect
example of the objectification and mechanization of humans in the workplace. In essence, Bartleby
is a machine that continually produces. Ultimately, he begins to resist the mind numbing repetition
of his tasks and the mechanization of his life. The other main character, the narrator, is a facilitator
of the capitalistic machine. He dehumanizes his employees by ensuring that their free will is denied
in the workplace using objectifying nicknames, providing a workplace devoid of human touch and
connection,; and perpetuating mechanized, repetitive work. Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivenershows
the dehumanizing effects of working in a capitalistic environment and ultimately suggests that one
must conform to a standard way of life or will cease to exist.
One of the first ways in which Melville begins the dehumanization of the workers is through the
narrator s use of condescending nicknames for his employees: Turkey, Ginger Nut and Nippers.
The reader does not know their actual names and never learns them. Their nicknames are what
becomes the important commodity to the novella. When one thinks of turkey, we tend to think of
an animal and not the name of a person, Nippers sounds like the name you would give a dog
while Ginger Nut is the name of a type of cake. Why

Summary Of This Is Water By David Foster Wallace
There have two pieces of the article I recently read about, which is This is water by David Foster
Wallace, and Letter to a young poet by Rainer Maria Rilke. I will be discussing the contrast
between this two article and tell the audience what they were precisely thinking about life. For
Wallace, he passed commencement speech to share the advice to people who hear at a college
graduation. In his speech, he delivered the reality of how a typical adult life goes. His statement
also talked about decision making, and how all choices will impact our future growth. On the
other hand, Rilke conveys his ideas by wrote the letter to one military student who called
Kappus. In Rilke s letters, I mostly focus on letter eight, because he pays attention to solitude
and how it is essential to be a real artist. There is only through solitude that he will learn personal
truths and he told Kappus to need to trust own feelings and to face what is difficult. Ralike
talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I gradually understand that everything is
not going smoothly, it is hard. There have many things you cannot be avoided, such as solitude.
Nowadays, solitude already become a regular phenomenon in our daily life, for example, when I
walk on the street, I always saw a person walk alone, eats alone, go shopping alone, or even goes
to concerts alone. As Rilke said, Solitude it always becomes clearer that this is at the bottom, not
something that one can take or

The Rise Of Zombies On Popular Culture
Introduction
Is it possible to kill an idea when it is undead? Classic movie monsters tend to fade in and out of
popularity as audiences grow bored and move on to fresher concepts. But there is one that has
risen up and does not seem to slow down: zombies. Zombies have gone from being a small
subgenre of horror film to a staple of popular culture across various media. This paper will explore
the rise of zombies in popular culture and why it continues to remain relevant.
Origins
When picturing a zombie the image of a undead person looking for its next human meal comes to
mind. While this is the foundation of what the contemporary belief of a zombie is, the actual
origin has a far deeper and darker history than what is portrayed today. In the 17th century, Haiti;
at the time known as Saint Domingue, was colonized by France. Slaves were brought in from
Africa to work on the sugar plantations. These slaves were subject to such brutal and horrible
conditions that many of them died after a few years of service at a rate two to three times higher
than any other type of plantation (Berlin 21). A belief rose among the slaves that if they died, they
would return to la guinГ©e (Africa) and be free but there was a catch. If they committed suicide;
as many did, they would not be allowed to return to la guinГ©e and instead would spend eternity at
the plantation as an undead slave (Mariani).
After the Haitian revolution in 1804 brought the end to French colonization, the zombie

Navy Budget Analysis
The Navy has come to a crossroad to meet today s demands while trimming down the fat. In order
to meet this increasing demand for U.S. Maritime presence around the world and to satisfactorily
support the war, the Navy needs to increase its ships number while decreasing its manpower. This
is the dilemma that Navy policy makers have to deal with. Performance driven organization must
maintain its workforce at peak levels and meet retention goals while coping with budget cutbacks

the right skills in order to afford the increase numbers of ships. But that might prove to be more

Google s Effect On Our Brain Essay
Google s effect on our brain
In the July August 2008 Atlantic magazine, Nicholas Carr published Is Google Making Us Stupid?
(http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200807/google). In this article Nicolas Carr argues that the
internet is changing how one thinks, and how it is causing a bad effect on one s brain. I have to
disagree. Although the internet is constantly changing, it helps in a positive way. Firstly, google has
become a great resource for educational purposes. Secondly, the internet has become a great
resource for intercultural experiences. Due to the general population spending most of their time on
computer s and smart phones, this information is accessible to us whenever needed.
Carr s entire argument is how the internet is making the population weak minded, which is easily
clearly arguable with the resources available to us now. Some examples of resources are online
school, library databases, educational games, daily newspapers, and even books are now sold
online and school is being provided online to be more accessible to us. The hyperlinks that Carr
mentions in his article as we power browse (1), in fact the internet/google is more helpful in going
further into a subject being studied. For instance if someone is trying to research a sickness, the
search starts with google, entering the sickness which leads them to an article, possibly Wikipedia,

The reason behind making tuition free at community college is to allow those with financial
struggles to receive an education, but it s proven that those who need help are already covered. If
tuition is made free then then that means even people who can afford to pay it, will no longer be

The Manipulation Of The Narrator In Wallace s Northanger...
To further paint Henry as an oppressive and antagonistic force, Wallace likens his reductive
generalizations to the narrator s reductive generalizations of readers. For example, Wallace
claims that at the beginning of Northanger Abbey, the narrator quickly posits two kinds of
readers, one the naive reader of romance who would expect a heroine to be an orphan and to
engage in the more heroic enjoyments of infancy, nursing a dormouse, feeding a canary bird, or
watering a rosebush, and the second a more sophisticated reader who rejects romance and who
knows a parody when he sees one (Wallace 262). According to Wallace, the narrator holds a black
and white view of readers, where there are only two categories: naive and sophisticated. Therefore,

According to Wallace, throughout the text the narrator has been trying to manipulate the reader s
expectations (Wallace 266). The idea of the narrator manipulating the reader s expectations
closely mirrors the idea of Henry manipulating Catherine s responses. Additionally, Wallace
claims that following these aggressive manipulations, both Catherine and the reader experience
doubts, instability, and lack of confidence (Wallace 266). Wallace even provides violent imagery
of both Henry and narrator as antagonistic oppressors, alleging that the language of struggle and
capitulation used in passages involving Henry and Catherine also demonstrates what the
authoritative narrator can do to an insecure reader, who may contend and resist but is eventually
made captive to the narrator s will (Wallace 268). Moreover, Wallace uses this language of
oppressor and oppressed engaged in a violent physical battle again when she describes the
relationship between narrator and reader as one in which the reader becomes an opponent who
struggles with the narrator for control over the text (Wallace 262). Through her diction, Wallace
illustrates images of both Henry and the narrator as violent and oppressive antagonists who force
Catherine and the reader into a position where they lose the ability to think for

thinking that his plan might just work (O Reilly 24). Additionally, the Germans moved their
troops to locations where the US lines of defense were the thinnest and the weakest due to the
woods and where German soldiers outnumbered Americans troops two to one (O Reilly 30). In
places like the Ardennes Forest in Luxembourg, Americans were outnumbered five to one. The
Americans and Allied Forces became depressed; yet they knew they had to hold the line at all
costs. Because if they don t, Hitler s crazy gamble in the Ardennes just might succeed (O Reilly
48). Hitler was having some startling successes, but the longer the war went on, the more out of
touch Hitler became with the realities on the ground. He ignored the evidence because he was so
certain that he was right. The first tactical mistake Hitler made was to

An Examination Of Archetypes In Watchmen By Moore And Gibbons
Watchmen, the graphic novel written and illustrated by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons seek to
question the superhero archetypes by refusing to provide a clear hero of a hero or a villain. The
philosophy and motivation of the Watchmen characters were purposely created by Moore and
Gibbons to defy the generic archetype of the characters.
Generally, Superhero comics have characters who are shoved into simple categories which does not
allow them to be multifaceted, but in WatchmenMoore and Gibbons steer away from these
dangerous archetypes to provide characters with substance that defies them from being shoved into
the simple archetype. Rorschach is the extreme example of the Vigilante archetype, which means
that he is a part of a self appointed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rorschach s is a deontologist and his philosophy is dying what he believes in, he has no
compromise, even in Armageddon . Rorschach believes in punishing the action with a punishment
that is equally as immoral as the original action, but Rorschach does not see his retaliation action
as a villainous crime rather an appropriate punishment for the crime. This philosophy can clearly
be seen in, figure one, when Rorschach confronts Moloch in his own apartment, demanding to
know answers on the disappearance of masked vigilantes , Rorschach has no hesitation in shoving
the elderly man who is suffering from cancer into the refrigerator due to Rorschach s personal
beliefs that Moloch knew details surrounding The Comedian s death, and it seemed odd to
Rorschach that The Comedian would have a heartfelt conversation to the ex antagonist. Moore and
Gibbons utilise the action of The Comedian visiting Moloch as an illustration that there were really
no heroes or villains in Watchmen. The philosophy that The Comedian possess is the attitude of an
absurdist and a nihilist which is obvious through the name that Moore and Gibbons gave to The
Comedian which literally displays that life is a joke. The Comedian is captured saying that phrases

What Are The Three Levels Of Discourse Analysis
Critical discourse analysis aims to uncover ideology and power in discourse by understanding the
relationship between textural features and larger social practices. It draws on many other
approaches to discourse, including Halliday s systemic functional linguistics. (1) The three levels of
discourse analysis:
1.Micro: Individual being myself referred to as the local level.
2.Meso: Community recognition, expectations and interactions.
3.Macro: national social categories and classifications. (Banu Subramaniam, 2003). The context of

Poverty and Underdevelopment of India
Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means
underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of
human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the
failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common
thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive educationexpenditure as
consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat
public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital
formation .
Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including
education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their
present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if
people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher
ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its
available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market
is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in
distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards
reducing discrimination in schooling, improving

During, the 1960s and 70s American Feminist Movement, women had begun to protest for the same
human rights as men. The main areas of protest in The United States of America were Boston, Los
Angeles, and New York City. There were many ways to protest, including writing, art, and
organizations. There were many writers who wrote about feminismduring this time, some include
Betty Friedan, Robin Morgan, and Kate Millett. Art also encouraged feminism, specifically the
paintings by Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro. There were many feminist groups that protested

Betty Friedan wrote the book based on a survey she did for her former Smith College classmates
on the their fifteenth anniversary reunion. The results of the survey showed that many of her
former classmates were unhappy, despite being affluent and married with children. The reason
her Smith College alumnus were so unhappy was due to the fact that their lives consisted of
taking care of her family and children, but not doing anything that held significance to
themselves and the nation. Her book The Feminine Mystique, was a major influence of the
1960s and 70s American Feminist Movement, selling 1.4 million copies. The Feminine Mystique,

during the early 50s and 60s. The reason this book was so popular and influenced the 1960s and

housewives who were financially stable with children, the book impelled women to fight for a
change in salary, the workplace, and laws; during a time where women did not have the same equal

How Junk Food Can End Obesity Freedman Analysis
In How Junk Food Can End Obesity by Freedman, the author critiques the wholesome food
promoters and how they believe people should eat healthy. He states that these people believe that
real food is only farm fresh food and that processed food is inherently unhealthy. However,
Freedman states, that even if they could get everyone to switch to farm fresh food, it would still not
end obesity. He states that this food actually has about the same fat content and contains other
unhealthy materials which make them equally bad as processed foods. Also, he states that people
tend to not have access to this food because it is more expensive. Also, those who are not health
conscious will not eat it because they do not believe that it will taste good.

Two Accounts for the Moral Wrongness of Torture
Torture is morally wrong because it can affect an individual physically, socially and
psychologically. This essay will address the physical affects and psychological affects towards
people. Torture is unacceptable because is damages a person s humanity, values, respect and
reputation of the moral authorities. This essay will discuss two accounts for the moral wrongness
of torture and they have been discovered by William Twining s and from his research he noted
torture to be morally wrong since the rights of the victim is violated, secondly David Sussman
who believes torture is morally wrong because the victim is turned against the victim herself.
Torture includes forcing the victim to 1)perform sexual activities, or pose in a sexual manner ,
2)beatings and burns 3) placing hoods over the head and covering the eyes by using duct tape 4)and
waterboarding. Waterboarding is the most commonly used for torture in nowadays, this method
involves placing a cloth over the victims face and causes the victim to experience the sensation of
drowning. Torture may affect someone s life socially because the individual shall find it hard to
make friends, difficult to adapt to a new culture and they will feel uncertain and lost about the
future (Gerrity et al 2001). Unfortunately torture will also make the victim feel guilty and ashamed
about themselves because of the humiliation they have experienced. Lastly, the psychological
symptoms impact the victim which includes anxiety, mood

Siddhartha and Govinda Essay
Siddhartha and Govinda Siddhartha, written by Herman Heese, is a book about a man s journey to
find his inner self beginning when he is young and ending when he is of old age. Siddhartha, while
on this quest, searched for different mentors to teach him what they know, hoping to find truth and
balance in and of the universe. At the end of the novel, Siddhartha reaches the enlightenment
through many teachings.
Govinda, Siddhartha dearest friend and confident, is often viewed as his Siddhartha s follower, or
as his shadow. In the beginning, Siddhartha goes with Gotama to hear the teachings of the Buddha,
and Govinda remains with Buddha to become his disciple. Siddhartha believes that each person

After being asked how he was able to reach enlightenment, Siddhartha draws the distinction
between knowledge and wisdom. He says, No, I am telling you what I discovered. Knowledge can
be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, be forfeited by it, do wonders through it,
but one cannot communicate and teach it. (115).
Siddhartha shares many teachings he has learned with Govinda. Siddhartha holds up a stone in
example, showing that one thing is enfolded in the past, present, and future. He also stated that
language is only a device, and that wisdom is not communicable. This means that, through
experience, wisdom is attainable, but if you trying to teach enlightenment, the meaning will not be
fully appreciated to whom it is taught.
We also learn that not only Samana has left its mark on Siddhartha, but that also his brief contact
with Buddha left its mark also. The Buddhist doctrine shows two opposites are Samsara and
Nirvana. All truth has these two opposites, the truth side and the illusion side.
When Gotama admits he has still not found peace, he suddenly has an inexpressible experience
much like Siddhartha had when he met Vasudeva years before. Siddhartha then summons Govinda
to kiss him on the forehead. Govinda feels as if he is touching perfection, the illustrious one,
eternity, and gets a mystical transference from Siddhartha.

Sonnet Elizabeth Bishop Analysis
Close Reading of Sonnet by Elizabeth Bishop
Elizabeth Bishop s poem, Sonnet bears little resemblance to its namesake at first glance. Bishop
plays with our expectations, molding the well known sonnet form into something new. She
transforms the meter and rhyme scheme of the sonnet to the point of metamorphosis, but she retains
the skeletal structure of the form; fourteen lines broken down into the customary octave and sestet.
Her invocation and subsequent subversion of the anticipated poetic form provide her with a baseline
to branch off from and without that context, the structure would not have the same effect on the
poem s meaning.
The structure of the first line sets the tone for the octave. Bishop begins in media ras with Caught
(l. 1) but immediately undercuts that momentum with an em dash. This structure manifests the
instability of the poem which is then picked up by words such as level (l. 2), wobbling and
wavering (l. 5), bevel (l. 11), and wherever (l. 13). This is just the first example of structure
reinforcing meaning in Sonnet
Caught (l. 1) also introduces the central theme of freedom and confinement. We see the
confinement motif play out in the octave with enclosed imagery such as the bubble (l. 1) or even
the compass (l. 4). However, instead of explicitly introducing contrast into the first part of the poem,
Bishop structures the sonnet as a progression, first focusing on confinement before moving to
freedom. The sonnet as a progression

The Historical And Evolutionary Process That Occurred Essay
To fully understand the significance of our historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU
s), we must examine the historical and evolutionary process that occurred in early education.
Education during the colonial period included a strong emphasis on the bible. Leaders wanted
students to be able to read and apply biblical principles. Education was primarily used for
ministerial purposes. Another primary purpose of education during the countries early
development was to serve as a means of distinguishing class among its citizens. Although most
educational concepts were influenced by Eurocentric ideologies, as the colonies gained
independence, other aims emerged including providing a common language, instilling
patriotism, developing unity and a common purpose. Early leaders considered school as a way
of protecting the new nation by establishing loyalty. You may recognize some of the practices are
still in place like siting the pledge at the beginning of school. What is important to note is that
education was provided for wealthy White males. Poor people, people of color, slaves and
women were not included in the plans for an educated society. This paper will describe, the
formation of the first Black Colleges, the current state of affairs, and conclude with the cultural
significance of HBCU s. Segregation During the era of slavery in this nation, the education of
slaves was frowned on and often forbidden. By denying Blacks an education, Whites believed they

Analysis Of Shakespeare s Othello
An Analysis of Othello by Shakespeare
Shakespeare is known for his use of recurring themes throughout his work, including love, death
and betrayal. These themes are present in his work of Othello. However, the most fundamental
issue is jealousy. The lives of the characthers in Othello are ruined by jealousy from the beginning
to the end of the play. The telling of the story is carried out by passion, jealousy, and death.
Shakespeare s Othello reveals devastating tragic inevitability, stunning psychological depth, and
compelling poetic depth; the fragility and mysterious power of love, as well as demons of doubt,
and how suspicion can be triggered by manipulative villain (Barthelemy 12).
In the play, evil intentions destroy what we know of a pure heart as well as trust and genuine
honesty by this falsehearted deception. The agony of the tragic play is captured in a nutshell
when Othello admits to Desdemona when I love thee not/chaos is come again. There is some
misunderstanding of tragedy of love between the two characters. Trust is misplaced, honesty
smeared out and finally, lives are ruined by denigrating fabrications and outright lies (Lupu, Jeffrey
and Westmaas Jones 12). The tragic cautionary of Shakespeare offers a supreme warning over
jealousy which is referred as the green eyed monster with doth mock the meat it feeds on.
At First , Roderigo is envious of Othello because he wanted to be in love with Desdemona. This is
the beginning of jealousy which runs

Defect Of Groupthink
Author Janis suggested that the main defect of groupthink is processing information ineffectively,
which would mean that the group decision will be of a low quality. Janis argued that groupthink
leads to an inability to arrive at a high quality decision, which means that groupthink through the
decision making defects leads to bad group decisions. Janis then contradicts herself by suggesting
that some groups will arrive at a good decision even in the face of groupthink, especially if the
leader advocates a good decision. I would try to justify the notion that there is low probability for a
high quality decision because there has to be some reference to either low or high when discussing
outcome of a decision. Author Janis did state that groupthink

Samuel Clemens Biography Essay
Samuel L. Clemens was born on November 30, 1835. On this day Halley s comet blazed through
the night sky. Clemens notably mentioned that since he came along when the comet did, he shall
leave when the comet does. On April 21, 1910, the day the comet shined the brightest it had ever
shown, Clemens passed from a heart attack. Ironically, this was also the day that Halley s comet
made an exit from Earth s sight (Harper and Owens). Throughout the lifetime of the comet, Clemens
became an American icon in literature. With the pen name Mark Twain
, his humorous travel stories
brought him to fame as he left the occupation of a news reporter. Twain chose this pen name based
on his experiences from being a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River. Crew men on the
steamboat would shout Mark Twain if the depth of water was enough for the boat to travel through
it. At the age of twenty seven,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

words they use. Twain proves that opposites attract in these novels by making Tom and Huck

  • 2. Great Britain Dbq During the early 1500s and mid 1600s western civilization went through major change with the protestant reformation. One county that was affected by the reformation during this time was Great Britain. Leading up to its reformation Great Britain had key factors within the english reformation that distinguish it from the protestant reformationand its entirety. What makes this religious change different is the cause of this event happening. Some historians like to blame or give credit to the woman, Anne Boleyn, for the drastic change that occurred within England s church in the 16th century. Saying that Boleyn was a reformist and wanted the protestant reformation to reach Great britain. While others believe that Anne Boleyn was not influential in change of England s religious change from catholic to anglicanism. After extensive research it is easy to see that there is no evidence that can prove Anne Boleyn having responsibility for the dramatic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The English Reformation was a detailed process, in 16th century England, where the Church of England broke ties with the authority of the pope and the Roman Catholic Church. It all began with King Henry VIII marriage with Catherine of Aragon. After years of marriage Catherine had not produced a male heir who survived into adulthood angering the King. With this in mind King Henry will set his eyes own Anne Boleyn who was a maid of honor to Queen Catherine. By the late 1520s, Henry wanted his marriage to Catherine annulled, claiming it to be invalid due to the fact that Catherine was his late brothers wife making it wrong for Henry VIII to be allowed to marry her. In 1527 Henry asked the Pope, Pope Clement VII, to annul his marriage. The pope refused in fear of the Queen s nephew, Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V. this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Informative Speech On The Black Sox Scandal General Purpose: I will inform the class about an event in history. Specific Purpose: I would like to inform people on the 1919 Black Sox Scandal in Major League Baseball. Introduction Attention Getter: In 2008 the New York Giants won the Super Bowl by defeating the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in what most sports fans call one of the greatest upsets in sports history. What would you think if I told you the Patriots lost the game on purpose? They didn t, but in 1919 eight members of the Chicago White Sox conspired to intentionally lose the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds in what people now refer to as the Black Sox Scandal. Speaker Credibility: My uncle is a huge sports buff and he s often talked to me about this specific scandal. I remember growing up and still hearing how upset this scandal made him. Its something that still prevalent in todays sports. Relate the topic to the audience: You all probably have watched sports at some time and it should be very interesting for you guys to know about some drama within the sports industry. Specific purpose: Today I want to share with you the story of the black sox scandal of 1919. Preview of Main Points: I will talk to you about why the Whitesoxs were the favorites, why the Whitesoxs players didn t like their management, and how that affected how baseball changed his management. I.Throughout the time leading up to the 1919 World Series, reporters in both Chicago and Cincinnati spoke about how good the World Series would be, and the odds makers listed the White Sox as heavy favorites. A.The former MLB pitcher Cristy Mathewson, predicted the best played series in years . 1.He gave the edge on pitching to the Reds, but believed the White Sox offense and experience gave them a better chance at victory. 2.He also pointed to the fact the Sox played in a better league and had a tougher road to the series, making them ready for a fight B.Gamblers also made the White Sox heavy favorites in the World Series. 1.The Cincinnati Inquirer on the article red money appears on ... • 4. Analysis Of The Film, Edward Scissorhands, Directed By Tim... My theme Outsiders in society how appearances can be deceiving I think is very important to the film Edward Scissorhands; directed by Tim Burton, as the theme is repeated throughout the film. My theme has a general importance because its shows the other side of society that we don t get to see or notice too often. The group of individuals on the other side constantly shows the challenges they face, and the different ways of living are often ignored because they don t fit into the current society. This brings up a strong contrast and compare between what society defines as normal and what is abnormal. My theme tells us that their appearances are often deceiving and we should learn to to give them a chance. This means you are also more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Edward (the outsider) is introduced into the bright society below and I noted he is readily accepted by most as they got to know him more. Edward I thought also became happier compared to his sad face in the beginning and more confident in himself and others as he was recognised by the suburban society. However the betrayal of robbing a house by Edward later in the film meant he was framed, forced to leave and return to the place where he came from. I thought this was cruel and inhuman as Jim, who told Edward to break into the house was using him as he could open any house with his scissors. He had no knowledge of what he was doing and was unfortunately framed and Edward being all the more vulnerable because of his appearance. I thought Carol (a member of the suburb) makes a strong connection to Edward s appearance by talking on the phone to the other suburb neighbours Joyce, I just saw this strange guy driving with Peg... I didn t get a good look at him, he looked kind of pale. I felt quite curious in the way that Carol felt to see this new character in the suburb and shared this same feeling with many others in the film. Edward was very welcomed by Peg (who found Edward) and so, he meet the rest of the people in the suburb and was accepted to be more involved in their society. This reminded me of the text: Perks of being a Wallflower, where an anonymous person (named Charlie) describes himself as an outsider. It is quite unique as he knows what other people say ... Through the experience of riding train, I figure out the rail track, terminal, train unit and the power car has effect on the performance of railways transports. Besides that, I also able to compare the bus transport service and the railway transport service. Both of them have the different in the service provided and the pros and cons of the service. 2.1 RAIL TRACK Rail track can be known as the railroad or railway, is the permanent way for the train. The track will provide a space for the rail s wheel to roll and move on it. It will avoid the rail to direct contact with the ground. • 6. The Pursuit Of Possession Marketed By Popular Brands Essay We communicate who we are through fashion. Fashion is poetic through textures, color, design, and expression which signifies how connected we are to our clothes. Consumers rely on fashions status quo to appeal to their need to buy the best from the best retail markets, yet still have an unawareness of a don t ask, don t tell oblivion towards production of these expensive marvels. The target of the pursuit of possession marketed by popular brands will make people focus more on materialistic value instead of the reinvention of the fashionmarket in how our clothes are really made. That pair of jeans you saw in a Black Friday sale advertisement, or a crew neck long sleeve shirt on sale at H M caught your eye because to you, its worth the bargain, but to the person who made this item for you, it wasn t worth their demise. The ill informed consumers of the fashion industry are unknowingly supportive to the abusive labor practices of exploited sweatshopworkers on the production of our clothingwhile glorifying expensive brands made from the hands of penniless workers. The focus of this paper is to be the voice of those workers, who make these pleasantries with literally their own blood, sweat, and tears that us consumers take for granted, while shedding some much needed light on the nefarious acts on sweatshop workers. In the most labor dependent industry on earth, workers have no voice. The supply chain is constantly on the rise, globalization of production is outsourced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They have been in business for over forty years and have continued to evolve to fit the needs of the consumers while also managing to expand their products. In doing so, they have needed to keep their company ahead of trends that have occurred in the market. The same can be said for trends and products. They have witnessed what a mistake it is to ignore their past progress and simply focus on what is next. While it is important to spend a great deal of time working towards advancement, especially in a market that is rising. However, it is very difficult to ignore what brought about all of these changes and what has been working (Kerin, Hartley amp; Rudelius, 2013). Another challenge that they may face includes economic changes. Since, Prince Sports markets their product internationally, they need to pay attention to the economies of all the countries they distribute to. Significant changes in an economy can greatly change their customer base and needs resulting in new marketing tactics having to be put in place (Benoit amp; Gleason, 2012). Prince Sports can stay ahead of the changes they possibly face if they keep in mind when Linda Glassel said It s learning, it s studying, it s talking to people who understand where the market is going (Pg. 241). In order to stay ahead and take on any challenges that come their way, they need to employ research methods that can help them solve their problems and come up with new ideas for marketing their products. Besides using the Five Step marketing approach, there are specific aspects they should pay close attention to. As a part of step three, they need to collect data, both primary and ... • 8. The Southern Stereotype Essay Long Live Southern Stereotypes Ever since Scarlett O Hara struggled to find love and Andy Taylor was elected Mayberry s Sheriff, filmmakers and television producers have yet to lose any fondness for stereotyping the southern culture. There are many who despise any form of labeling or stereotyping within the media, fearing false characterizations or inaccurate portrayals of southern customs, traditions, and people. Exposure to southern stereotypes through media is an appealing element in the American lifestyle that can render endearing impressions, contribute genuine metaphors, and provide viewers with a unique and fascinating (whether positive or negative) glimpse toward a regional culture. The mass media, or media at large, would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are pointed descriptions, but they are true and the American culture loves (and loves to hate) the southern stereotype and it is here to stay. Now what about those who may have that southern stereotypical drawl? Southern accents do not make one stupid; being stupid does. Southerners should be proud of the southern accent. However, the media has managed to cause dismay among many southerners who possess the engaging and attractive drawl. Should a visitor traveling to North Dakota, view a Fargo native as stupid or ignorant because of the distinct accent heard there? Should a North Dakota resident ridicule a person from the Bronx because of the peculiar accent heard there? Somehow people are ashamed of their unique speech patterns rather than being proud of a colloquial accent. The southern stereotype will be here for a long time to come, so love it and embrace it. According to Jack G. Shaheen in his essay titled, The Media s Image of Arabs, Hollywood producers must have instant kits that contain sunglasses, Arab clothing, tents, and mosques in order to provide a snapshot of Hollywood s stereotypical Arab (99). Undoubtedly, the same holds true when depicting the typical southern example. Whether one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Face Of Insanity Or Pure Evil Medea: The Face of Insanity or Pure Evil In Medea by Euripides, an unfortunate tragedy arose from devastating circumstances, centralizing around intense grief and rage. In the center of the horrific situation was Medea, who was the daughter of King Aeetes. She was the former wife of Jason until he decided to abandon his family and duties as the head of the household by marrying Glauce, the Princess of Corinth. She murdered her children, Glauce, and Creon, the King of Corinth to satiate her overwhelming lust for blood and revenge. Undeniably, Medea is the epitome of the phrase, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Her burning desire for vengeance and destruction extended far beyond intense passion. Thus, leading to the question: Is Medea, simply, the face of insanity or pure evil? Although her actions were horrific and barbaric enough to be considered an ailment of insanity, the reality was that she was the devil incarnate considering she strategically formulated a plan to achieve her demented agenda. Evidently, Medea was not insane and did not commit the murder out of insanity, but pure evil, which is fully crystal clear from her deranged actions and thoughts. Medea is the poster child of an individual that is clearly evil. Even prior to the murders, she displayed signs of pure wickedness and evil. For instance, Medea instigated the murder of King Pelias by encouraging and manipulating his daughters to engage in patricide. Medea tricked Pelias daughters into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many people second guessed how the Catholic Church was practicing religious teachings and this grew in Germany. After years of battling for religious reforms, a new religion was formed named Lutheranism. Between 1524 and 1526, German peasants began to revolt the Holy Roman Empire. The peasantrevolts were caused by greed and wanting to get rid of serfdom and corrupt leaders in the Holy Roman Empire, and both positive and negative responses were seen. The Irish Easter Rebellion 1916 Essay The 1916 Irish Easter Uprising Ever since the occupation of Ireland by the English began in 1169, Irish patriots have fought back against British rule, and the many Irish rebellions and civil wars had always been defeated. To quash further rebellion, the Act of Union was imposed in 1800, tying Ireland to the United Kingdom of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Laws discriminating against Catholics and the handling of the Irish Potato Famine of 1845 50 led to increased tension and the proposal of introducing Home Rule gained support. However, there were many difficulties in organising and executing such a rebellion and one thing the rebels needed were weapons. Sir Roger Casement had organised for a shipment of as many as 200,000 rifles to be smuggled into Ireland on a neutral German freighter, the Aud. But when Casement arrived in Ireland on a German submarine he was arrested immediately and the freighter was intercepted by the Royal Navy and scuttled itself. Back in the late 70 s and early 80 s, there was no better place to be in then Chicago Heights. The factories and businesses were booming, and the unemployment rates were declining. At least that s how Elizabeth Fushi Peterson, teacher at Bloom High School, remembers it. In his book, The Rise of The Creative Class Revisited, Richard Florida introduces the Creative Class as individuals who engage is work to create new forms (38). Florida s Creative Class theory is that if the creative class was aware of how powerful they are, they could impact our economy and our culture. In accordance to how Richard Florida explains who would be in the Creative Class theory, Mrs. Fushi Peterson belongs to it. Yet she decided to move from a creative city to Chicago Heights, a not so creative city. This contradicts Florida s ideas of a creative lifestyle that is attached with the membership of being a creative. Yes the MPG is an estimate based on driving style, however it will get better mileage than the Fusion and therefore saving all the money you would normally spend on gas to put towards the payments or the maintenance it requires. Which is of worthy mentioning, the cost of repairs for the Prius is significantly high than the Fusion as it requires a certified hybrid vehicle mechanic to repair it. The Fusion can be repair by your everyday do it yourself mechanic. So in the long run the Fusion is a cheaper and more intelligent option for a family vehicle. The question of lying has been debated for centuries: where should one draw the line with lying? Should one try to never tell lies? Can the public handle the truth? In Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness, Marlow, the protagonist, tried to answer this conundrum. He lied three times during the course of his story, each time becoming larger than the last. The first time that Marlow introduced the idea of lying is when he let the first class agent at the Central Station believe he was more influential than he actually was. After committing this minor falsehood, he explained in depth that it was unusual for him to lie, as if to assure the reader not to worry. Dehumanization In Bartleby The Scrivener The character of Bartleby in Herman Melville s novella Bartleby, the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street is a person who refuses to become an object in capitalistic society. Initially, he is the perfect example of the objectification and mechanization of humans in the workplace. In essence, Bartleby is a machine that continually produces. Ultimately, he begins to resist the mind numbing repetition of his tasks and the mechanization of his life. The other main character, the narrator, is a facilitator of the capitalistic machine. He dehumanizes his employees by ensuring that their free will is denied in the workplace using objectifying nicknames, providing a workplace devoid of human touch and connection,; and perpetuating mechanized, repetitive work. Melville s Bartleby, the Scrivenershows the dehumanizing effects of working in a capitalistic environment and ultimately suggests that one must conform to a standard way of life or will cease to exist. One of the first ways in which Melville begins the dehumanization of the workers is through the narrator s use of condescending nicknames for his employees: Turkey, Ginger Nut and Nippers. The reader does not know their actual names and never learns them. Their nicknames are what becomes the important commodity to the novella. For Wallace, he passed commencement speech to share the advice to people who hear at a college graduation. In his speech, he delivered the reality of how a typical adult life goes. His statement also talked about decision making, and how all choices will impact our future growth. On the other hand, Rilke conveys his ideas by wrote the letter to one military student who called Kappus. In Rilke s letters, I mostly focus on letter eight, because he pays attention to solitude and how it is essential to be a real artist. There is only through solitude that he will learn personal truths and he told Kappus to need to trust own feelings and to face what is difficult. Ralike talked about solitude in letter eight. As I grow older, I gradually understand that everything is not going smoothly, it is hard. There have many things you cannot be avoided, such as solitude. Nowadays, solitude already become a regular phenomenon in our daily life, for example, when I walk on the street, I always saw a person walk alone, eats alone, go shopping alone, or even goes to concerts alone. Classic movie monsters tend to fade in and out of popularity as audiences grow bored and move on to fresher concepts. But there is one that has risen up and does not seem to slow down: zombies. Zombies have gone from being a small subgenre of horror film to a staple of popular culture across various media. This paper will explore the rise of zombies in popular culture and why it continues to remain relevant. Origins When picturing a zombie the image of a undead person looking for its next human meal comes to mind. While this is the foundation of what the contemporary belief of a zombie is, the actual origin has a far deeper and darker history than what is portrayed today. In the 17th century, Haiti; at the time known as Saint Domingue, was colonized by France. Slaves were brought in from Africa to work on the sugar plantations. These slaves were subject to such brutal and horrible conditions that many of them died after a few years of service at a rate two to three times higher than any other type of plantation (Berlin 21). A belief rose among the slaves that if they died, they would return to la guinГ©e (Africa) and be free but there was a catch. If they committed suicide; as many did, they would not be allowed to return to la guinГ©e and instead would spend eternity at the plantation as an undead slave (Mariani). Poverty and Underdevelopment of India Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive educationexpenditure as consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital formation . Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. This essay will discuss two accounts for the moral wrongness of torture and they have been discovered by William Twining s and from his research he noted torture to be morally wrong since the rights of the victim is violated, secondly David Sussman who believes torture is morally wrong because the victim is turned against the victim herself. Siddhartha shares many teachings he has learned with Govinda. Siddhartha holds up a stone in example, showing that one thing is enfolded in the past, present, and future. • 49. Sonnet Elizabeth Bishop Analysis Close Reading of Sonnet by Elizabeth Bishop Elizabeth Bishop s poem, Sonnet bears little resemblance to its namesake at first glance. Bishop plays with our expectations, molding the well known sonnet form into something new. She transforms the meter and rhyme scheme of the sonnet to the point of metamorphosis, but she retains the skeletal structure of the form; fourteen lines broken down into the customary octave and sestet. Her invocation and subsequent subversion of the anticipated poetic form provide her with a baseline to branch off from and without that context, the structure would not have the same effect on the poem s meaning. The structure of the first line sets the tone for the octave. Bishop begins in media ras with Caught (l. 1) but immediately undercuts that momentum with an em dash. This structure manifests the instability of the poem which is then picked up by words such as level (l. 2), wobbling and wavering (l. 5), bevel (l. 11), and wherever (l. 13). This is just the first example of structure reinforcing meaning in Sonnet Caught (l. 1) also introduces the central theme of freedom and confinement. We see the confinement motif play out in the octave with enclosed imagery such as the bubble (l. 1) or even the compass (l. 4). However, instead of explicitly introducing contrast into the first part of the poem, Bishop structures the sonnet as a progression, first focusing on confinement before moving to freedom. The Historical And Evolutionary Process That Occurred Essay To fully understand the significance of our historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU s), we must examine the historical and evolutionary process that occurred in early education. Education during the colonial period included a strong emphasis on the bible. Leaders wanted students to be able to read and apply biblical principles. Education was primarily used for ministerial purposes. Another primary purpose of education during the countries early development was to serve as a means of distinguishing class among its citizens. Although most educational concepts were influenced by Eurocentric ideologies, as the colonies gained independence, other aims emerged including providing a common language, instilling patriotism, developing unity and a common purpose. Early leaders considered school as a way of protecting the new nation by establishing loyalty. You may recognize some of the practices are still in place like siting the pledge at the beginning of school. What is important to note is that education was provided for wealthy White males. These themes are present in his work of Othello. However, the most fundamental issue is jealousy. The lives of the characthers in Othello are ruined by jealousy from the beginning to the end of the play. The telling of the story is carried out by passion, jealousy, and death. Shakespeare s Othello reveals devastating tragic inevitability, stunning psychological depth, and compelling poetic depth; the fragility and mysterious power of love, as well as demons of doubt, and how suspicion can be triggered by manipulative villain (Barthelemy 12). In the play, evil intentions destroy what we know of a pure heart as well as trust and genuine honesty by this falsehearted deception. The agony of the tragic play is captured in a nutshell when Othello admits to Desdemona when I love thee not/chaos is come again. There is some misunderstanding of tragedy of love between the two characters. Trust is misplaced, honesty smeared out and finally, lives are ruined by denigrating fabrications and outright lies (Lupu, Jeffrey and Westmaas Jones 12). The tragic cautionary of Shakespeare offers a supreme warning over jealousy which is referred as the green eyed monster with doth mock the meat it feeds on.
