The Earth is composed of three main layers - a thin, rocky crust on the outermost layer, a solid middle layer called the mantle, and an inner core. The mantle extends over 2,890 km deep and is composed of hot, solid silicate rocks that can slowly flow over long time periods. Within the core, there is a liquid outer core made of iron and nickel below the mantle, and a solid inner core made of iron and nickel alloy at the center of the Earth.
