•Is the outermost layer on the earth.

•Thickness varies. Under mountains
it can be as thick as 60 km and less
than 5 km under the ocean.
•It is the least dense of all the layers.

•It is made up of silicon and oxygen.

(about 2900 km thick).

7. MANTLE: Divided into 2 parts
• Upper mantle
• Lower mantle
• Contains the “Moho”
(Mohorovicic discontinunity)

8. CORE
Located below the Mantle. (Egg
Yolk)
• It is divided into 2 layers

Inner Core

• is liquid and is made up of mostly
iron (easily magnetized)

10. Inner Core
• Is the center of the Earth – 1200
km thick.
• It’s solid iron and nickel. Most
dense layer (heaviest)
