The nervous system allows signals to be sent through the body and is made up of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system controls many bodily functions like temperature, blood pressure, and hunger through the hypothalamus. The peripheral nervous system is outside the brain and spinal cord and includes the somatic nervous system controlling voluntary muscles and autonomic nervous system controlling involuntary muscles. The brain controls the nervous system and uses a large amount of the body's oxygen and blood. Damage to nerves can cause issues like paralysis or loss of feeling.
