The Lord of the Rings world premiere took place on December 19, 2001. Directed by Peter Jackson, the film follows Frodo Baggins who must destroy the powerful One Ring to prevent its creator, Sauron, from using it to rule Middle-earth. Frodo forms a fellowship with Gandalf, Aragorn, Arwen, Legolas, Gimli, and others to carry the ring to Mount Doom where it can be destroyed. Their quest faces many dangers from the mysterious Black Riders and Sauron's forces, and the corrupting power of the ring threatens to turn even the fellowship's members against each other.
