This document provides a lesson plan for teaching computer literacy to grade 1 students about keyboards. Level: Computer Literacy for Grade 1
I. Objectives
At the end of a 40-min. period, the students are expected to achieve the following objectives
with 85% accuracy.
a. Define what a keyboard is,
b. Identify the parts of the keyboard,
c. Use the keys of the keyboard appropriately.
II. Subject Matter

2. Motivation
• Teacher will do the following:
o Play the game entitled: WORD HUNT
MECHANICS
• The class will be divided into 2 groups.
• Each group will have a representative.
• Teacher will post the name KEYBOARD in the screen of the students.
• Tell the students to think words inside the word KEYBOARD.
• The group representative will list the words in the whiteboard
• The more words they can think of, the more chances of winning the game.
IV. Presentation
1. Discussion
• Teacher will do the following:
• Distribute hand-outs to the students.
• Show and discuss the contents of the hand-outs: KEYBOARDING.
WHAT IS A KEYBOARD?
• Is a main input device for most computers
• It is used to type letters, numbers, and symbols and give
commands to the computer.

WHAT ARE THE PARTS OF THE KEYBOARD
• Typewriter Area or Alphanumeric Keys - The largest and most
commonly used part. It contains letters, numbers, symbols, and
special keys used for keying data and commands. It means
ALPHAbet and NUMbers.
• Function Keys - Includes ESC, F1 to F12, Print Screen, Scroll lock
and Pause/Break. It contains keys that have a special function
depending on the software that is used.
• Cursor Keys or Arrow Keys - The four directional keys. It moves
the position of the cursor on the monitor, Up, Down, Left or Right.
• Numeric keypad - Calculator-like keypad. It contains number keys
and operation keys

SPACEBAR – makes space.
ENTER KEY – move the cursor to the next line.
SHIFT KEY – make a CAPITAL LETTER when a key and the SHIFT key are

BACKSPACE – delete a letter by moving the cursor to the next line.

PROPER POSITION OF HANDS WHEN TYPING
• Home Row keys – the keys where most of the fingers rest on.
V. Generalization
• Teacher will ask the following questions:
o What is a keyboard?
o Enumerate the parts of the keyboard.
