A numerical model studied the effects of uniform transverse magnetic field for two fluids (pure water and water with electric conductivity), two different non-magnetizable duct and two flow velocities (steady flow for laminar and incompressible) was examined and The results showed an increase in the magnetic field caused a decrease in the local flow and effected on velocity profile. The result also showed that the water with electrical conductivity more affected than pure water.

A Revisit To Forchheimer Equation Applied In Porous Media FlowIJRES Journal
A brief reference to various non-linear forms of relation between hydraulic gradient and velocity of
flow through porous media is presented, followed by the justification of the use of Forchheimer equation. In
order to study the nature of coefficients of this equation, an experimental programme was carried out under
steady state conditions, using a specially designed permeameter. Eight sizes of coarse material and three sizes
of glass spheres are used as media with water as the fluid medium. Equations for linear and non-linear
parameters of Forchheimer equation are proposed in terms of easily measurable media properties. These
equations are presented in the form of graphs as quick reckoners.

The Influence of Pore Air Pressure on Slope Stability Under Various Rainfall ...coreconferences
Rainfall is the most important factor to induce landslide, of which rainfall pattern is the main influence parameter. Generally, during the analysis of slope stability under different rainfall patterns, the influence of pore water pressure in saturated zone is mostly considered, while the influence of pore air pressure in unsaturated zone is seldom analyzed from the angle of water-air coupling. Based on the theory of water-air two-phase flow, this paper calculated and simulated the variation of pore air pressure changing with the rainfall time under three typical rainfall patterns (weakened, concentrated and enhanced), and combined the slope stability analysis model of considering pore air pressure to study the influence of pore air pressure on slope stability. The results show that the influence of pore air pressure on slope stability is detrimental under the three rainfall patterns. And the response duration of the pore air pressure is the longest under the weakened rainfall pattern, the concentrated pattern is the second, and the enhanced pattern is the shortest. The influence of pore air pressure on the safety factor of slope stability is the greatest under the weakened rainfall pattern, which can easily lead to the instability of the slope. Thus, we shall take the necessary engineering measures in advance in the event of such rainfall pattern prediction.

The present paper is concerned to analyze the radiation, Magneto hydrodynamic and soret effects on unsteady flow heat and mass transfer characteristics in a viscous, incompressible and electrically conduction fluid over a semi-infinite vertical porous plate through porous media the porous plate is subjected to a transverse variable suction velocity. The transient, non linear and coupled dimensionless governing equations for this investigation are solved analytically using perturbation technique about a small parameter . the effects of governing parameters on the flow variables are discussed graphically.

Analysis of the Dynamic Behaviour of Steel-Concrete Composite Footbridges Con...IJERA Editor
The main objective of this investigation is to present the finite element modelling of the dynamic behaviour of a steel-concrete composite footbridge, when subjected to human walking vibrations. The investigated structural system was based on a tubular steel-concrete composite footbridge, spanning 82.5 m. The structural model consists of tubular steel sections and a concrete slab. This investigation is carried out based on correlations between the experimental results related to the footbridge dynamic response and those obtained with finite element modelling. The soil-structure interaction effect was considered in the dynamic analysis based on the use of Winkler’s theory. The finite element model enabled a complete dynamic evaluation of the tubular footbridge in terms of human comfort and its associated vibration serviceability limit states. The peak accelerations found in this analysis indicated that the investigated footbridge presented problems related with human comfort and it was detected that the structural system can reach vibration levels that compromise the footbridge user’s comfort.

Comparison of flow analysis of a sudden and gradual change of pipe diameter u...eSAT Journals
Abstract This paper describes an analytical approach to describe the areas where Pipes (used for flow of fluids) are mostly susceptible to damage and tries to visualize the flow behaviour in various geometric conditions of a pipe. Fluent software was used to plot the characteristics of the flow and gambit software was used to design the 2D model. Two phase Computational fluid dynamics calculations, using K-epsilon model were employed. This simulation gives the values of pressure and velocity contours at various sections of the pipe in which water as a media. A comparison was made with the sudden and gradual change of pipe diameter (i.e., expansion and contraction of the pipe). The numerical results were validated against experimental data from the literature and were found to be in good agreement. Index Terms: gambit, fluent software.

With the advent of the era of smart power grids urbanization, distributed optical fiber temperature measurement technology has become a hot research which can be applied on the cable fault detection. For a start, introduce the overall design of the architecture of distributed optical fiber temperature measurement system in briefly. And then combined with the latency phenomenon that online temperature monitoring system often occurs when the page data is updated, can not guarantee real-time communication. For such problems, analyzes and summarizes the technical features and advantages of Ajax technology, two pages application aspects mainly in historical inquiry and dynamic temperature curve shows.
In the present work an attempt has been made to improve the heat transfer rate from basin liner to the water. Fins are used in the basin of the still to increase the heat transfer rate. Performance of a finned basin still is compared with that of a conventional still. It is observed that the productivity of the still increases with increasing the numbers of fins. When number of fins increase thrice, productivity increases by 25% as compared with the conventional still. Daily productivity increases with increasing number of fins in the basin.

TRANSIENT STABILITY ENHANCEMENT BY USING DSSC AND PSSIAEME Publication
Synchronous operation of generators in power system is required to supply continuous electricity to customers. Proper transient stability must be maintained for stable operation of power system. To enhance the transient stability of power system FACTS or D-FACTS technology can be used. In this paper, Distributed Static Series Compensator (DSSC) which, belongs to D-FACTS technology is used to enhance the transient stability of two-machine system with Power System Stabilizer (PSS) as an auxiliary controller and it is found that DSSC along with PSS is able to maintain required transient stability during severe three-phase to ground fault.

Explicitly, the longer the detection delay is, the elevated the costs to be incurred. Consequently, a fastidious consideration has to be paid for stealthy DoS attacks. They aim at minimizing their visibility, and are sophisticated attacks adapted to influence the worst-case recital of the target system through definite periodic, pulsing, and low-rate traffic patterns. A strategy to orchestrate stealthy attack patterns, which reveal a slowly-increasing-intensity inclination premeditated to impose the utmost financial cost to the cloud Customer has been proposed, while relating to the job size and the service advent rate obligatory by the detection mechanisms. It is described both how to apply the proposed strategy, and its effects on the target system deployed in the cloud.

In this paper the characterization of the impact of physical layer impairments on quality of transmission of optical fiber transmission systems had been demonstrated analytically and verified numerically with simulation results. Linear and nonlinear impairments in optical links accurately characterized with analytical modeling techniques but on the counterpart it is cost efficient to characterize the impact of these impairments using empirical techniques which provides real time information of these impairments to digital signal processing algorithms used in their compensation to ensure high throughput of the optical transmission systems.
3D printing is called as additive manufacturing technology where a three dimensional object is created by laying down successive layers of material. It is also known as rapid prototyping, is a mechanized method whereby 3D objects are quickly made on a reasonably sized machine connected to a computer containing blueprints for the object. It is working under the principle of Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM). The 3D printing concept of custom manufacturing is exciting to nearly everyone. The basic principles include materials cartridges, flexibility of output, and translation of code into a visible pattern.3D Printers are the machines that produce physical 3D models from digital data by printing layer by layer. It can make physical models of objects either designed with a CAD program or scanned with a 3D Scanner. Here we are going to propose a model report on design and fabrication of a 3D printer.
The present work shows the importance of using thermal insulation for new building walls. To decrease cooling and heating load, so the electric power consumption for air-conditioning equipment drop to more than 50% of that without insulation. The experimental work includes building of two models of (1X1X1) m width, length and height located at (32.5 latitude) kut city, Iraq. The model is set to be each wall faced south, east, north and west direction exactly. The models built from brick (24cm), thermo-stone (20cm) and sandwich panel (5cm). Another type of insulation material were tested and compared with normal brick wall is styropor. The heat gain was calculated for all the above insulations compared with brick model. The results showed that the best model in energy saving is the sandwich panel model with about 70% energy save, while the thermo-stone model gives 33% and outside styropor 54.28%.

In this paper, traffic data is counted and analysis of data is done with the help of software PTV VISTRO for signal optimization. Also, the other improvements are suggested. The main factors influencing the traffic problem are type of traffic, seasons, population accumulated in the area, direction of flow, parking, foot path availability, the width of the road, connectivity to the different locations and value of area etc. The aim of this paper is to identify the problems creating the traffic and providing solutions for effective transportation through the city.

In this paper, dynamic decoupling control design strategies for the MIMO Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) process characterised by nonlinearities, loop interaction and the potentially unstable dynamics, are presented. Simulations of the behavior of the closed loop decoupled system are performed in Matlab/Simulink. Software transformation technique is proposed to build a real-time module of the developed in Matlab/Simulink environment software modules and to transfer it to the real-time environment of TwinCAT 3.1 software of the Beckhoff PLC. The simulation results from the investigations done in Simulink and TwinCAT 3.1 software platforms have shown the suitability and the potentials of the method for design of the decoupling controller and of merging the Matlab/Simulink control function blocks into the TwinCAT 3.1 function blocks in real-time. The merits derived from such integration imply that the existing software and its components can be re-used. The paper contributes to implementation of the industrial requirements for portability and interoperability of the PLC software.
PREDICTING BEARING STRENGTH CHARACTERISTICS FROM SOIL INDEX PROPERTIESIAEME Publication
The bearing strength of foundation soil is a major design criteria for civil engineering structures. This study aims to estimate the bearing strength, namely California Bearing Ratio (CBR) and ultimate bearing capacity, from simple and easy measured soil index properties. Comprehensive literature concerning bearing strength characteristics and their prediction equations proposed by previous researchers were reviewed. Laboratory investigation was conducted on two different soils compacted at various placement conditions (i.e. moisture content and dry density) and tested using CBR and triaxial tests. Based on test results, linear relationships of unsoaked CBR and ultimate bearing capacity with the consistency factor which is formed by combining placement conditions and soil intrinsic parameters had been developed.
PERFORMANCE OF STRIP FOOTINGS ON SLOPE REINFORCED WITH INCLINED PILEIAEME Publication
The footing that placed on slope surface results in decreasing the bearing capacity of soil. The pile reinforcing the slope may affect the bearing capacity of footing and factor of safety of slope. The piles installed within the slope mechanically provide a resistance to slope system along the failure surface. The present work was focused on the analysis of strip footing behavior on slope with and without pile using a finite element software PLAXIS 2D. The various parameters considered for present work includes location of pile from slope crest, inclination of pile, effect of pile length and effect of width of load. The results indicated that stabilizing pile has a significant effect in improving the bearing capacity and factor of safety of slope. The bearing capacity of footing was found to be maximum when slope was reinforced by pile at crest. For smaller width of strip, the factor of safety of slope was maximum when pile is placed at crest while for larger width the pile location at 0.5 horizontal widths of slope gave maximum factor of safety.

Now-a-days, the natural fibres from renewable natural resources offer the potential to act as a reinforcing material for polymer composites alternative to the use of glass, carbon and other man-made fibres. Attempts have been made in this project work to study the effect of fibre loading on the physical, mechanical and water absorption behavior of glass/nylon/jute fibre reinforced epoxy based hybrid composites and it’s fabricated by hydraulic press technique. Work has been carried out to investigate the flexural properties, tensile strength, hardness, impact strength and water absorption test of the composites and compared with glass and epoxy composite. It has been observed that the tensile properties, flexural properties and hardness increase with the increase in the weight fraction of natural fibers to certain extent. The morphology of composites is studied by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).

In many developing countries Like India, most of the vapor compression based refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump systems continue to run on halogenated refrigerants due to its excellent thermodynamic and thermo-physical properties apart from the low cost. However, the halogenated refrigerants have adverse environmental impacts such as ozone depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP). This project is devoted to feasibility study of substitution of LPG which is locally available and comprises 24.4% propane, 56.4% butane and 17.2% isobutene. The LPG is cheap and possesses an environmentally friendly nature with no ozone depletion potential (ODP). It is used in Libya for cooking purposes .Experimental result showed that the LPG refrigerant with charge of 25g worked well under unloaded condition
DOMESTIC WASTE WATER TREATMENT BY FLY AND WOOD ASH ALONG WITH ADDITIVES MATER...IAEME Publication
Fly ash and wood has been separately studied for their adsorption properties. A lot of work has been reported on the adsorption and other construction related uses of fly ash. But a little or no work so far has been reported for the use of fly ash for the treatment of domestic laundry waste water. The present study reports the use of fly ash alone and in combined state in different ratios with wood ash for the treatment of domestic laundry waste water. Effect of various parameters such as combination ratio of fly ash and wood ash, contact time, adsorbent dosage and particle size of adsorbent have been studied. It is found that TSS(total suspended solids) is reduced from 350 ppm to 15-20ppm, total BOD from 250ppm to 10-20 ppm and ph dropped from highly alkaline range to 8.5-9.5 range, reduction of 80% in total soap content, FOG(fats, oils and grease)from visible turbid level to non turbid and clear solution. It is also reported here that for efficient treatment of domestic wash water waste adsorbent dosage of 40g/L is recommended.

Friction stir welding is in vogue in aerospace, automotive and other industrial establishments for connecting alloys like aluminum, magnesium and copper. Rotational speed, welding speed and the angle of attack are important in the process of FSW. They analyze the weld quality. FSW produces stronger weld joint then the original material in selected parameters. FSW is a solid-state process, where metal is not melted uses a cylindrical shouldered tool with a profiled pin rotated and gradually plunged into the weld joint between two metal parts of plate or sheet that are to be welded together.

All construction should rest on the soil. So, the soil bearing capacity plays a vital role in constructions. All soils will not have good strength and bearing capacity. So there is a need to increase the soil strength and bearing capacity. The black cotton soils pose many problems in construction. So in this present work, the black soil collected from chintakommadinne mandal has been stabilized by using sand and cement.

The Effect of High Zeta Potentials on the Flow Hydrodynamics in Parallel-Plat...CSCJournals
This paper investigates the effect of the EDL at the solid-liquid interface on the liquid flow through a micro-channel formed by two parallel plates. The complete Poisson-Boltzmann equation (without the frequently used linear approximation) was solved analytically in order to determine the EDL field near the solid-liquid interface. The momentum equation was solved analytically taking into consideration the electrical body force resulting from the EDL field. Effects of the channel size and the strength of the zeta-potential on the electrostatic potential, the streaming potential, the velocity profile, the volume flow rate, and the apparent viscosity are presented and discussed. Results of the present analysis, which are based on the complete Poisson-Boltzmann equation, are compared with a simplified analysis that used a linear approximation of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation.

The effects of viscous dissipation on fully developed two fluid magnetohydrodynamic flow in the presence of
constant electric field in a vertical channel is investigated using Robin boundary conditions. The fluids in both
the regions are incompressible, electrically conducting and the transport properties are assumed to be constant.
The plate exchanges heat with an external fluid. Both conditions of equal and different reference temperatures of
the external fluid are considered. First, the simple cases of the negligible Brinkman number or the negligible
Grashof number are solved analytically. Then, the combined effects of buoyancy forces and viscous dissipation
are analyzed by a perturbation series method valid for small values of perturbation parameter. To relax the
condition on the perturbation parameter, the flow fields are solved by using the differential transform method.
The results are presented graphically for different values of the mixed convection parameter, Hartman number,
perturbation parameter, viscosity ratio, width ratio, conductivity ratio and Biot numbers for both open and short
circuit. The effects of these parameters on the Nusselt number at the walls is also drawn. It is found that the
solutions obtained by perturbation method and differential transform method agree very well for small values of
perturbation parameter.

The power law model is used to represent the class of non-Newtonian fluids (shear-thinning and shear-thickening fluids) by considering a range of 0.8 to 1.6. Investigation is carried out to study the influence of power law index and Reynolds number on the variation of velocity profiles and streamlines plots. Velocity profiles and the streamline patterns
for various values of power law index at Reynolds numbers ranging 100 to 3200 are presented. Half way bounce back boundary conditions are employed in the numerical method.

White layer thickness (WLT) formed and surface roughness in wire electric discharge turning (WEDT) of tungsten carbide composite has been made to model through response surface methodology (RSM). A Taguchi’s standard Design of experiments involving five input variables with three levels has been employed to establish a mathematical model between input parameters and responses. Percentage of cobalt content, spindle speed, Pulse on-time, wire feed and pulse off-time were changed during the experimental tests based on the Taguchi’s orthogonal array L27 (3^13). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that the mathematical models obtained can adequately describe performance within the parameters of the factors considered. There was a good agreement between the experimental and predicted values in this study.

Data were collected through a structured questionnaire containing a five point Likert Scale. The study examined the data of 30 transgender entrepreneurs in Salem Municipal Corporation of Tamil Nadu State, India. Simple Random sampling technique was used. Garrett Ranking Technique (Percentile Position, Mean Scores) was used as the analysis for the present study to identify the top 13 stimulus factors for establishment of trans entrepreneurial venture. Economic advancement of a nation is governed upon the upshot of a resolute entrepreneurial doings. The conception of entrepreneurship has stretched and materialized to the socially deflated uncharted sections of transgender community. Presently transgenders have smashed their stereotypes and are making recent headlines of achievements in various fields of our Indian society. VOICE BASED ATM FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED USING ARDUINOIAEME Publication
The prototype of a voice-based ATM for visually impaired using Arduino is to help people who are blind. This uses RFID cards which contain users fingerprint encrypted on it and interacts with the users through voice commands. ATM operates when sensor detects the presence of one person in the cabin. After scanning the RFID card, it will ask to select the mode like –normal or blind. User can select the respective mode through voice input, if blind mode is selected the balance check or cash withdraw can be done through voice input. Normal mode procedure is same as the existing ATM.

Using the exploratory research design and 255 participants the result of this original study indicates strong positive correlation between emotional intelligence and effective human resource management. The paper offers suggestions on further studies between emotional intelligence and human capital development and recommends for conflict management as an integral part of effective human resource management.

Organizational Culture and PMS play a crucial role in present-day organizations in achieving their objectives. PMS needs employees’ cooperation to achieve its intended objectives. Employees' cooperation depends upon the organization’s culture. The present study uses exploratory research to examine the relationship between the Organization's culture and the Effectiveness of the Performance Management System. The study uses a Structured Questionnaire to collect the primary data. For this study, Thirty-six non-clinical employees were selected from twelve randomly selected Health Care organizations at Thanjavur. Thirty-two fully completed questionnaires were received.

The goal of this study was to see how talent management affected employee retention in the selected IT organizations in Chennai. The fundamental issue was the difficulty to attract, hire, and retain talented personnel who perform well and the gap between supply and demand of talent acquisition and retaining them within the firms. The study's main goals were to determine the impact of talent management on employee retention in IT companies in Chennai, investigate talent management strategies that IT companies could use to improve talent acquisition, performance management, career planning and formulate retention strategies that the IT firms could use. The respondents were given a structured close-ended questionnaire with the 5 Point Likert Scale as part of the study's quantitative research design. The target population consisted of 289 IT professionals. The questionnaires were distributed and collected by the researcher directly. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to collect and analyse the questionnaire responses. Hypotheses that were formulated for the various areas of the study were tested using a variety of statistical tests. The key findings of the study suggested that talent management had an impact on employee retention. The studies also found that there is a clear link between the implementation of talent management and retention measures. Management should provide enough training and development for employees, clarify job responsibilities, provide adequate remuneration packages, and recognise employees for exceptional performance.

It is costly to replace unskilled employees with IT professionals possessing technical skills and competencies that aid in interconnecting the business processes. Only 303 respondents were collected out of 350 participants to whom questionnaires were distributed. From the employees of IT organizations located in Bangalore (India), the data were congregated. A simple random sampling methodology was employed to congregate data as of the respondents. Generating the hypothesis along with testing is eventuated. The effect of EI and TM along with regression analysis between TM and EI was analyzed. The outcomes indicated that employee and Organizational Performance (OP) were elevated by effective EI along with TM.

This paper outlines the concept of quality of bank loans of different types like Housing, Agriculture and MSME loans in state Haryana of selected public and private sector banks. This study is highlighting problems associated with the role of commercial bank in financing Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME). The overall objective of the research was to assess the effect of the financing provisions existing for the setting up and operations of MSMEs in the country and to generate recommendations for more robust financing mechanisms for successful operation of the MSMEs, in turn understanding the impact of MSME loans on financial institutions due to NPA. There are many research conducted on the topic of Non- Performing Assets (NPA) Management, concerning particular bank, comparative study of public and private banks etc. In this paper the researcher is considering the aggregate data of selected public sector and private sector banks and attempts to compare the NPA of Housing, Agriculture and MSME loans in state Haryana of public and private sector banks. The tools used in the study are average and Anova test and variance. The findings reveal that NPA is common problem for both public and private sector banks and is associated with all types of loans either that is housing loans, agriculture loans and loans to SMES. NPAs of both public and private sector banks show the increasing trend. In 2010-11 GNPA of public and private sector were at same level it was 2% but after 2010-11 it increased in many fold and at present there is GNPA in some more than 15%. It shows the dark area of Indian banking sector.

An experiment conducted in this study found that BaSO4 changed Nylon 6's mechanical properties. By changing the weight ratios, BaSO4 was used to make Nylon 6. This Researcher looked into how hard Nylon-6/BaSO4 composites are and how well they wear. Experiments were done based on Taguchi design L9. Nylon-6/BaSO4 composites can be tested for their hardness number using a Rockwell hardness testing apparatus. On Nylon/BaSO4, the wear behavior was measured by a wear monitor, pinon-disc friction by varying reinforcement, sliding speed, and sliding distance, and the microstructure of the crack surfaces was observed by SEM. This study provides significant contributions to ultimate strength by increasing BaSO4 content up to 16% in the composites, and sliding speed contributes 72.45% to the wear rate

Rural entrepreneurship brings an economic value to the rural sector by creating new methods of production, new markets, new products and generate employment opportunities thereby ensuring continuous rural development. Social Entrepreneurship has the direct and primary objective of serving the society along with the earning profits. So, social entrepreneurship is different from the economic entrepreneurship as its basic objective is not to earn profits but for providing innovative solutions to meet the society needs which are not taken care by majority of the entrepreneurs as they are in the business for profit making as a sole objective. So, the Social Entrepreneurs have the huge growth potential particularly in the developing countries like India where we have huge societal disparities in terms of the financial positions of the population. Still 22 percent of the Indian population is below the poverty line and also there is disparity among the rural & urban population in terms of families living under BPL. 25.7 percent of the rural population & 13.7 percent of the urban population is under BPL which clearly shows the disparity of the poor people in the rural and urban areas. The need to develop social entrepreneurship in agriculture is dictated by a large number of social problems. Such problems include low living standards, unemployment, and social tension. The reasons that led to the emergence of the practice of social entrepreneurship are the above factors. The research problem lays upon disclosing the importance of role of social entrepreneurship in rural development of India. The paper the tendencies of social entrepreneurship in India, to present successful examples of such business for providing recommendations how to improve situation in rural areas in terms of social entrepreneurship development. Indian government has made some steps towards development of social enterprises, social entrepreneurship, and social in- novation, but a lot remains to be improved.
OPTIMAL RECONFIGURATION OF POWER DISTRIBUTION RADIAL NETWORK USING HYBRID MET...IAEME Publication
Distribution system is a critical link between the electric power distributor and the consumers. Most of the distribution networks commonly used by the electric utility is the radial distribution network. However in this type of network, it has technical issues such as enormous power losses which affect the quality of the supply. Nowadays, the introduction of Distributed Generation (DG) units in the system help improve and support the voltage profile of the network as well as the performance of the system components through power loss mitigation. In this study network reconfiguration was done using two meta-heuristic algorithms Particle Swarm Optimization and Gravitational Search Algorithm (PSO-GSA) to enhance power quality and voltage profile in the system when simultaneously applied with the DG units. Backward/Forward Sweep Method was used in the load flow analysis and simulated using the MATLAB program. Five cases were considered in the Reconfiguration based on the contribution of DG units. The proposed method was tested using IEEE 33 bus system. Based on the results, there was a voltage profile improvement in the system from 0.9038 p.u. to 0.9594 p.u.. The integration of DG in the network also reduced power losses from 210.98 kW to 69.3963 kW. Simulated results are drawn to show the performance of each case.

In this paper, we investigated a queuing model of fuzzy environment-based a multiple channel queuing model (M/M/C) ( /FCFS) and study its performance under realistic conditions. It applies a nonagonal fuzzy number to analyse the relevant performance of a multiple channel queuing model (M/M/C) ( /FCFS). Based on the sub interval average ranking method for nonagonal fuzzy number, we convert fuzzy number to crisp one. Numerical results reveal that the efficiency of this method. to investigate the effect of applied magnetic and electric fields on the flow
phenomena of an electrically conducting fluid.
Gedik et al., 2011 studied the effects of uniform transverse magnetic field on the two
phases (solid/liquid) steady flow for laminar, incompressible and electrically
conducting fluid in the cylindrical non-magnetizable pipes was examined
theoretically.
Since the effect of the magnetic on flow patterns may be quite important, it is
worthwhile to study the effect of them on separated flows. The goal in this section is
to investigate the effects of the applied magnetic on the flow by developing numerical
and analytical different models.
2. BASIC EQUATIONS OF HYDROMECHANICS
The basic equations in hydromechanics are transport equations (1) of mass,

5. NUMERICAL MODEL
A finite element model using COMSOL Multiphysics 4.4a was used to understand the
interactions between magnetic fluids and an applied magnetic field. The Navier-
Stokes relations were used to solve the velocity profile of the magnetic fluid.
Maxwell’s equations, along with Gauss’ and Ampere’s Laws were used to determine
the magnetic field from the permanent magnet. The model described below is a
derivation of a previously established model by COMSOL Multiphysics to describe
the interactions between a magnetic fluid and a permanent magnet to be used for drug
targeting studies. The finite element model setup, boundary conditions, the
simulations performed and the observed results are discussed in this chapter.
5.1. The Implementing Model
The interactions between magnetic fluids and an applied magnetic field model
coupled the Mesh element, incompressible Navier-Stokes and Magneto statics mode.
Through this implementation, forces placed on water channel are taken into account.
The flow examined numerically for laminar, incompressible and electrically
conducting fluid in the non-magnetizable duct, the flow exposed to uniform transverse
magnetic field. The first liquid was water with high electrical conductivity (5 ds/m)
and the second was chosen as pure water which has very poor electrical conductivity.
The system of the derived governing equations, which were based on the Navier-
Stokes equations including Maxwell equations, were solved numerically by partial
differential equations on the COMSOL Multi-Physics for both phases. The obtained
results from the numerical analysis are presented and discussed in terms of local axial
velocities of particle and fluid phases against flow time and the duct damnation. The
problem is for laminar flows at low Reynolds numbers and steady state conditions.
Magnetic field which was applied perpendicular to the flow was changed (0 to 1)
Tesla. Non-magnetic duct which had 1 cm and 0.75 cm in diameter were used as a
duct of flow regime material. The geometry, physics modes, and mesh being
discussed before the presentation of the final results.
5.2. The Geometry
The geometry used in the 2D finite element model is shown in Figure (1). The blue
boundaries encompassed the magnetic fluid. The red boundaries refered to the
permanent magnet. Sufficient space for dissipation of the magnetic flux lines was
given by creating a large domain with air surrounding the magnets and the fluid. It

was assumed that the magnetic field between the two parallel magnets be more
uniform, thus having a great effect with the alignment of the magnetic moments of the
magnetic fluid.

5.3. Constant Flow
The input flow rate considered steady, laminar and fully development, the fluid
velocities in a horizontal duct were (0.2 and 0.1) m/sec. Also, the magnetic field
produced by the permanent magnet configuration varied, by changing the strength of
the magnets used from (0 to 10000) Gauss.
4.5.4 Boundary Conditions
Proper boundary conditions were declared to find solutions to the model. Descriptions
of the boundary conditions are explained below.
4.5.4.1 Magnetostatics
Magnetic Insulation: A = 0; Magnetic potential is equal to zero in the normal
direction. Boundary condition selected for all boundaries surrounding the domain
containing air.
Continuity: n x (H1 – H2) = 0; Signifies continuity of the tangential component of the
magnetic field. Boundary condition selected for all boundaries surrounding the
magnets and the fluid, with an exception of the fluid inlet and outlet.

has its greatest impact. To accomplish this, a maximum element size of 5.5e-3 m was
defined for the channel and inlet in the Free Mesh Parameters. The resulting mesh can
be seen in Figure (2).

5.6. Checking The Magnetic Flux
Before presenting the numerical results, the magnetic flux and stream line of magnetic
field must compared according to the literature, where magnetic field being applied
perpendicular to the flow to get high effects. Figure (3) shows the contours of
magnetic flux density at time zero, the effective magnetic intensities inside the duct
section between magnetic blocks ranged (0.8 to 0.9) Tesla, (1 Tesla =10000 Gauss).
The stream lines of magnetic fields in Figure (4) shows that the fields perpendicular to
the flow direction also Figure (5) shows the contour of volume forces inside the duct.

5.8. Numerical Result
The COMSOL Multiphysics Software solved equations for flow and magnetization
numerically under the initial and boundary conditions depending on finite element
method. The effect of magnetic fields on the two axial local velocities, (0.13 and 0.2)
m/sec, for fluid with different concentrations, and magnetic intensity were reported.
Magnetic field induction which may be applied to the flow, pressure, fluid
concentration can be changeable depending on the program used. Axial velocity
profiles is shown in Figures (6), (7), (8) and (9) with field intensities (0, 4000, 1000)
Gauss for two ducts (1 and 0.75) cm. The increase in the magnetic field intensity
caused a decrease in axial velocity along the height of the duct and the results showed
clear changes between the examined fluids where the fluid (CW) with EC (5 dS/m)
more affected than the pure water (PW) (poor electric conductivity). Figures (10) and
(11) show that the increase in the magnetic field caused a decrease in the local flow
velocity. It was clear from Figures (10) and (11) that the flow velocity of 0.13 m/sec
has high influence than the 0.2 m/sec velocity.
The numerical results were consistant with experimental results where the
treatment decreased as flow velocity increased. Also, they were consistant with
Malekzadeh1et al., 2010 who found magnetic field changed the profile of axial
velocity from the parabolic to a relatively flat. In this study, the profile shape did not
change but resulted from the changes in field intensity, stream line of magnetic field
and the velocity of flow. Those changes in practical and theoretical tests proved the
existence of changes in the characteristics and specifications of the water; the reason
may due to the influence of a magnetic field which acted momentarily in the section
of treatment and created a vibration in water molecules.

6. CONCLUSIONS
Numerical results show increase in magnetic field led to an increase in water
treatment and that appeared clearly when magnetic intensity increased and resulting in
a decrease in the axial velocity along the height of the duct and a decrease in the local
flow velocity. The result also showed that the water with electrical conductivity more
affected than pure water.
