A Romantic And Modernist Perspective
Kyle D. Brubaker
Dr. Vernooy
ENG 237 01

Memory: A Romantic and Modernist Perspective During an age when Britain was producing more
writing than perhaps ever before in its history; romantic writers such as Wordsworth and Coleridge
place a large emphasis on nature and what impact this construct has on the mind and imagination,
while modernist writers such as Hardy, Lawrence, and Yeats attempt to exercise a strong break from
tradition. This ideal of straying from the pack creates a sense of bitterness and radical doubt
throughout the modernist period, and thus, causes citizens living in this time to carry about their daily
activities with doubt and pessimistic attitudes.
After examining the literary movements of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One can argue that William Wordsworth believes that memory can be utilized as an anecdote that is
able to cure someone s pain, while a writer such as Thomas Hardy would disapprove of this
Wordsworthian ideal by believing that memory is simply a shroud of gray (Vernooy). This claim can
be supported as true when Wordsworth s Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey is
examined more closely. Within this piece, Wordsworth states, These beauteous forms/Through a long
absence, have not been to me/As is a landscape to a blind man s eye/But oft, in lonely rooms, and mid
the din/Of towns and cities, I have owed to them/In hours of weariness, sensations sweet (Wordsworth
23 27). Here, Wordsworth provides a detailed description about how nature is able to provide a safe
haven for him in a time when Britain s cities are looking to industrialize more than ever. By
personifying nature during this time of economic crisis, Wordsworth is creating an outlet that aids him
in moving forward.
Conversely, Thomas Hardy encompasses the idea of nature and memory by almost insulting
Wordsworth. For instance, Hardy would argue that one cannot sit on the couch and rekindle old
memories in order to transgress, but instead, one needs to be out and about in order to gather as many
physical memories as humanly possible. Within Hardy s Under the Waterfall, the female persona is
attempting to rekindle one of her past memories, which as we all

Character Analysis Of Stronger
The story of Beth Elliott s life in the movie, Stronger, is a heart wrenching tale of an incredibly
talented musician with deep seated issues of depression. The movie s title was taken from her first hit
song she wrote and recorded. Elliott s life from the very start was surrounded in music. In the
beginning of the film she is shown at the age of two, giggling and happily performing songs she had
made up to entertain her family during a long car ride. As both her parents were musically inclined, it
is no wonder she possessed such a natural talent and love for music. Throughout the film, Elliott is
portrayed as having two entirely different personas. An extrovert in public and a introvert in private,
she at one point refers to herself as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an unexpected turn of events, after graduation, Elliott decides to return to her first love, performing
music. She had already been writing songs and performing in bars and clubs during the last few years
of college. Upon graduating, with determined focus and in what seems like a brush with fate, becomes
a well known and successful singer at age forty. In one scene, after an exceptionally magnificent
performance with her blues rock band, joyful emotions run high. On stage, Elliott leads her audience
to believe that her lyrics in her famous song Stronger, God I just want to be set free, from this black
dog that chains me are an uplifting expression of resilience after courageously finding her own way
after divorce. In fact, many fans repeatedly shower her with compliments of how much this song
reflects their own struggles. Suddenly, the film cuts from bright lights and stardom to a dark and
lonely room, thick with desolation. In those moments of solitude, it is clear that she wrote these words
not about her resilience, but instead encompassing her own lifelong struggle with depression. Even
through the realization of her childhood dream of becoming a famous singer, she still has not found
peace within. Whether surrounded by fans or alone in a room, there is a constant loneliness and
feeling of separation. The repetitive words spoken from everyone surrounding

Dalida Research Paper
In a career that spanned four decades, 30 years, 1,000 songs, and earned her more than 90 gold and
platinum records, Egyptian born and French residing pop singer Dalida lived a fascinating and tragic
life of celebrity. After her breakout in 1956, Dalida s breathtaking beauty and distinctive voice made
her an instant star, which gave her all the riches and spoils one could hope for, but amplified her
vulnerabilites and weaknesses which fame and success exploited.
Directed by Liza Azuelos (LOL), the film tells the singer s story in a non linear way, beginning with
her lying to her brother in a French airport in 1967, then secretly heading to a Parisian hotel. She is
reeling from the recent suicide of her lover, burgeoning Italian pop singer Luigi Tenco, and has
decided to attempt to take her own life. Not successful, she then is moved to a facility and doctors
bring in those closest to her to learn more about her struggles.
We traverse through her life at a relatively rapid speed, making Dalida a film that quickly becomes a
highlight reel of a subject s life. Born Iolanda Gigliotti, she was bullied and rejected by her peers in
grade school and saw her family persecuted during World War II. Her vocal talents soon emerged and
in her early 20 s she was discovered by radio station magnate Lucien Morisse (NAME). So taken with
one another, Morisse left his wife for Iolanda and began managing her career.
Once stardom begin to swirl around Dalida, her rise is rather meteoric and

Television As The Useful Tool For Children
TV as the Useful Tool for Children
In the modern household, TV is one of the most common electronic devices to have. There are
countless entertaining TV programs for children on many different channels everyday. Watching TV is
the easiest way to entertain children at home. With just one push on the remote controler, it is not
complicated for even young children to turn on the TV and find their favorite shows without parent s
help. TV shows for children are made for making children to stay on the channel or to watch the same
show again, so it likely leads children to be addicted to TV. In fact, many families try to get rid of the
TV or lessen the TV time for children to avoid the addiction. Although TV can affect children
negatively, there are also many quality programs for children. TV can provide educational contents,
fun family time, and relaxation time for children and family. If parents use TV wisely, TV will benefit
children and their family. A lot of TV programs are educational for children and parents. When people
from old to young adults talk about their favorite educational show on TV, most of them will mention
Sesame Street. It has been on TV since 1969, teaching children language, numbers, music, social
skills, and cultures. Parents have no doubt about showing Sesame Street to their children because
parents know that the show is educational and safe for young children. The Magic School Bus series is
one of the famous science shows for kindergarten to

Reflection Paper On Therapy
Self Assessment: Therapist For my MFT 507class, I was in a group with Elizabeth and Jaime. We did
a vignette to practice what we have learned in class and imply it in the therapy session. We switched
roles and always treated each other with kindness and respect. I will refer Jaime as Debby, so there
will not be any confusion.
Impressions
I learned many things with the vignette we did in class. Active listening is important be cause it helped
Debby see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op portunity to clarify any
misunderstanding. The assessment helped me to think critically and find out the reason why Debby
came to therapy. When I was watching the video, I was impressed how easily Debby and I build a
bond. I had the same name as her daughter and that made her feel comfortable. My strength regarding
this vignette was how calmly I talked to Debby. I am able to use verbal and nonverbal behavior. For
example, I used ummm to agree with Debbie, so she can see that I am on the same track as her. This
experience makes me see this is the career I want to pursuit. The role playing as a therapist and having
a senior citizen client open my mind and see that each person are different that have different
problems. I asked Debby why she thought that everyone hates her. She just said that everyone did and
no one like her. This question was unanswered because there was not actual evidence of what she told
me. Debby was part of a senior

Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations
Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases
their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as
compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be
a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus
remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they
are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with
hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15
infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive
scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as
infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who
have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer,
Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with
individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations.
Combining these factors, there is a high possibility of outbreaks in schools of life threatening illnesses
such as measles, mumps, and polio that unfortunately has taken many lives retrospectively. For

Matthew s Portrayal Of Pilate
When you think of the passion narrative, often times one of the first characters that comes to mind is
Pontius Pilate. Was he as man with good intentions, but corrupted by his position of power, or was he
a man who was malicious and sought to destroy Jesus. Callie Callon, a professor in the school of
theology at the University of Toronto, wrote an article titled Pilate the Villain: An Alternative Reading
of Matthew s Portrayal of Pilate . This article argued that Matthew s depiction of Pilate places him in
the position of a villain in the passion story. She uses Biblical and historical information to support her
claim. In this paper, I argue that Pontius Pilate was a leader who had good intentions and did not want
to follow through with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, I think that she would argue that Pilate was more concerned with pleasing the crowd
than with saving Jesus. I do think that there is some truth to this statement, but I that Pilate tries his
best to maneuver around the crowd by offering Jesus up against a criminal and by not taking part in
the crucifixion. I think based on his place in the government he is stuck having to appeal to the crowd
s wishes because he is clearly outnumbered. I feel like it is a difficult position to place all the blame on
Pilate, but I do not think he is totally innocent in this case. He could have used his political power and
overruled the crowd, possibly, but I think he was worried how that would affect his position. Yes this
is selfish motivation, but we do live in a selfish and fallen world and what would you do if you were
in his position? I think that there definitely is a counter argument to be made here, but I do not think I
would totally agree with Callie Callon by saying that Pontius Pilate is Villain, just based on the
biblical evidence provided in

Arhaus Furniture
Several years ago, after deciding to redecorate my living room, I visited Arhaus Furniture. The thing
about decorating is that my tastes never seem to match my budget, which is how I got into this
gardening mess. Arhaus carried table accents that consisted of a shallow round or square ceramic dish
full of lush, green, neatly manicured grass. Immediately, I was smitten with the unique concept, but
not with the price. After leaving the furniture store, I called my husband and rattled off my list of
necessary items grass seed, potting soil, and fertilizer. Considering that I have killed every plant ever
purchased, it was evident he thought this was yet another one of my fly by night ideas, yet he went
along with the plan. My responsibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you re like me, you can t wait to get your fingers in the dirt and you want to get that old brown lawn
looking lush and green again. If you live in the western United States, and you know that after
October your lawn will become dormant and brown, the following is a 4 step process to help renovate
your lawn. The fundamentals of getting that beautiful yard begins with a spring fertilizer; nitrate and
phosphate. When you look at a bag of fertilizer, there are usually two or three numbers on the bag, for
example: 30 10 0 which means 30 parts nitrate which is always the first number and 10 parts
phosphate which is always the second number. The nitrate greens up the lawn fast and the phosphate
establishes a strong root system. This is your spring fertilizer, which should be applied first. A good
way to decide when to apply fertilizer is to do it close to the holidays; Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of
July, and Labor day. If you are worried about weeds, you can use a fertilizer with a pre emergence in
it. In case you are unfamiliar with this type of product, you need to know that a pre emergence keeps
seeds from germinating. It does not differentiate between flower, vegetable or weed seeds, so you
must be sure that it is not applied in areas where you have flower or vegetable seeds. Many people like
to use a weed and feed fertilizer, thinking this will eliminate all the weeds. A weed and feed fertilizer
can only be used when weeds are actively growing because the chemical in the product has to attach
itself to the weed in order to kill it. If applied before the weeds are growing, you will have wasted
your time and your fertilizer. Memorial day fertilization means a fertilizer with less nitrate, such as a
25 5 10, which is 25 parts of nitrate, 5 parts phosphate, and 12 parts of potassium. You can also find
something like this with a slow release iron, which is

Theme Of The Signalman And The Signalman
In Gothic Literature, writers are able to choose between traditional and contemporary. This style of
writing typically relates back to fiction that gives an atmosphere of uncertainty by featuring horror,
death, curses or the supernatural. In The Signalman written by Charles Dickens, we can depict that his
writing falls under the category of traditional gothic literature as he chooses to stress the fear of the
unknown whether it be the setting or the supernatural. On the contrary, Roald Dahl who wrote Lamb
to the Slaughter chooses to write under the category of contemporary gothic literature, as we are
introduced to a familiar setting, and common issues that arise when we face reality. Nevertheless, both
stories choose to emphasize the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Dickens, the recurrence of insanity would make sense as his style of writing tends to include the
supernatural and the paranormal, however, for Dahl, the recurrence of insanity would come as a shock
to many since contemporary gothic literature includes more events that familiar and realistic. Dickens
characters insanity can be seen in the quote How your imagination misleads you because once the
Signalman saw the individual that appeared to him, his mind began racing with thoughts that seemed
to overwhelm him. He couldn t think straight as his mind was focused on figuring out what it was and
why it seemed to warn him, and this ultimately led to his demise. By zooming in on the word misleads
, it evidently shows us how he was involuntarily submerged with thoughts that drowned him and how
failing to control his sanity led to his downfall, and later, his death. Additionally, the quote May have
been infection in his mind similarly shows us how the appearance of the individual almost triggered
this thought that infected his mind and rid him of thoughts that were unperturbed. He thought that he
was seeing things, and not experiencing them, and because of that, he had a strenuous yet continuous
fight with his judgment and let it overcome him easily. By zooming into the word infection , we see
how inauspicious it is, it wasn t

father Lester Burnham experiences symptoms of depression, resulting in an extreme midlife crisis,

Rise of Air Power in World War One Essay
At the 1899 Hague Peace Conference, it was declared that any combat from aircraft would be
considered a war crime. (Eyffinger 227) Merely 20 years later, World War One had seen the daily use
of airplanes and pilots for unyielding combat. While slow at first, the recognition of the power of
aircraft was quick as the Great War started. Out of all countries involved in the war, Germany had the
deepest trust in their aircraft, and this would shortly be to their advantage. Whereas numerous air
forces were by now in working condition, the fighting usage of airplanes was minimal. The airplanes
were used mainly as recon, but the potential for air combat was yet to be seen. As the number of air
force recruits increased, the number of planes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only problem with machine guns was that any positions besides in front of the propeller would
decrease accuracy. Attaching a gun behind the propellers would hit the blades, effectively downing the
aircraft. There were many positions attempted, such as placing the gun over the wing. One German
inventor, Anthony Fokker, introduced the synchronisation device. This device controlled the machine
gun shots so it would fire only when the propeller blades were not in the bullet trajectory. Once the
Allied adopted this technology, the main role of airplanes was changed. New war planes, built for the
sole purpose of air combat, were being rapidly manufactured. By 1916 it was a common sight to see
airplanes in the air, fighting for their country. The role of the airplane had changed from a small fragile
aircraft to a strong machine capable of shooting down multiple enemies. As a result, the feeling
towards how planes were being used in the war changed drastically throughout the war. The pilots
were treated with honour and respect due to how easily they could be shot out of the sky. This
however, did not stop recruits for joining the air force. The pilots were called knights in the sky by
many citizens. During the first few years of the war, the citizens and press were in awe of the pilots
and the aircraft. The aircrafts were often seen as a symbol of certain victory when they appeared from

Suzie s Therapeutic Relationship With Vivian
The way in which both doctors spoke to and cared for Vivian was beyond disheartening. Throughout
the film there was a tremendous lack of patient centeredness, sensitivity, and compassion behind the

Vivian in her unconscious presence, dehumanized her and placed value only on her contribution to
research and academics. Although there were times at which you could see slight efforts were made by
the doctors to provide care and adequate descriptions, their lack of time and empathy were much more
noticeable than their altruistic intentions. Their coercion, ulterior motives, and failure to implement
bioethics throughout Vivian s care was truly repulsive. While in contrast to the doctors, Suzie

Finance, Banking And Finance Industry
When you drive up to your bank or walk up to your teller, your main goal is to complete your
transaction and move on with your day. The last thing on your mind is how that transaction is taking
place. You don t care what happens behind the scenes as long as your money is where it needs to be
and is safe. As the banking and finance industry has transformed, so has the process of how your
money is handled. To accompany those changes, regulators and lawmakers create laws designed to
protect consumers, banks, and the economy as a whole. As you will learn, the history of the banking
industry has changed drastically over the last two thousand years and even more so in the last century
with the advance of technology. It only makes sense that those lawmakers must continue to update and
invent new regulation to further protect those interested parties. My goal is to demonstrate just how
rapidly and radically the finance industry has changed and how new elements being introduced to
finance and banking will adapt the industry and the regulation.
In the world of finance and financial services, banking has been around longer than any other segment
of that world. For more than two millenniums, bankers have served as money changers who aided
people in exchanging foreign for local currencies. As this practice grew and many began to throw their
funds into the banking system, the services that banks performed multiplied. Loans were granted and
bankers collected interest. Most of

Healthsouth Management Has Overstated Earnings Essay
in 2003, investigators found that HealthSouth management had overstated earnings by at least $2.7
billion over a 17 year period. Furthermore, before the scheme was exposed, members of senior
management had been quietly selling their shares as quickly as they dared and falsely reporting that
HealthSouth had billions of dollars in existing assets. In August 2002, the then CEO and Chairman
Richard Scrushy sold $75 million worth of his company shares just weeks ahead of HealthSouth
announcing that cuts in Medicare reimbursements would reduce its pre tax profits by $175 million.
The company also said it wouldn t issue earnings guidance for the remainder of 2002. HealthSouth s
share value immediately tumbled from $11.97 to $6.71 (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1). With top
tiers selling their shares and the resultant rapid and precipitous drop in the company s share value,
attracted the SEC s attention to investigate these occurrences. The company s insiders told SEC that
the Medicare payment reduction actually was $20 million at most, and that management was using the
additional $155 million in supposed reimbursement cuts to make up for reported earnings that never
existed (HealthSouth 2002, Appendix 1) Granting that the detection of the fraud scandal was based on
the evidence from HealthSouth Corporation 2002 financial reports,

Executive Summary
Prior to the merger between BP and Amoco in 1998, both companies had very similar operating
characteristics and performance. Both companies engaged primarily in the same three businesses and
experienced close to the same percentages of revenue and percentages of operating income for each of
those businesses. A key difference however waswere that BP concentrated their operations
predominantly in the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe whereas Amoco concentrated their
operations heavily in the United States. Furthermore, before 1992, BP experienced drastically

Again similar to exploration and production, Amoco operated solely in the United States. Both BP and
Amoco had a very large number of retail outlets in which the companies sold petroleum products to,
8,200 and 9,300 outlets respectively. However, uUnlike exploration and production activities however,
refining and marketing activities accounted for a large percentage of revenues, 81 and 63 percent
respectively, but only a small percentage of company operating income, 21 and 19 percent
respectively. Realizing that this segment was not very profitable in comparison to exploration and
production, BP made the decision to reduce its interests in refining and marketing. The third business
that both BP and Amoco separately engaged in prior to the merger was the production of
petrochemicals. BP had operations for this segment more widespread than the others and distributed to
over 60 countries. Amoco, on the other hand, concentrated heavily in the United States staying
consistent with the other two businesses. Revenue percentages for petrochemicals were very low for
both companies, but operating income percentages were as well; 7 and 11 percent respectively for BP
and 16 and 16 percent respectively for Amoco. There are a few differences in the pre merger incentive
programs for executives at BP and Amoco. Prior to the merger, the compensation of Amoco
executives was much

Gender Stereotypes In Marc Cherry s Desperate Housewife
The hit TV show Desperate Housewives premiered in October 2004 on the ABC television network in
the United States. Director Marc Cherry s dark comedy TV series managed to attain both critical
praise and commercial success, drawing in about 25 million U.S. viewers weekly. (Hill, p.163) In
relation to the show s success, it is important to denote its representation of gender; the main
characters are four female protagonists (Susan, Gabrielle, Bree, and Lynette). These characters are
drawn together by the suicide of their neighbor and friend, Mary Alice Young, whose calm, composed
tones steer the narrative and offer an elevated view from which the truths, dark secrets, and domestic
struggles of Wisteria Lane are uncovered. The stories of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The new suburbs stood for cleanliness, open spaces, order, and privacy, all confined within the
omnipresent fences that ordered the community and socially insulated its residents. By choosing to
make the show in the suburbs, Desperate Housewives warns its audience about the continuing
negotiation and construction of social convention. (Hill, p.164)
The show s pilot episode acts as an establishment that Whiteness is the predominant signifier of
culture on suburban Wisteria Lane. Among the four female protagonists, there is only one racially
diverse character: Gabrielle Solis. She is straightaway constructed as Latina when it comes to her
physical appearance; however, her Hispanic roots are not highlighted positively in the series. Instead,
she is portrayed as superficial, only after money, and promiscuous. In the episode, Mary Alice tells the
viewers, Since her modeling days in New York, Gabrielle had developed a taste for rich food and rich
men. (Merskin D., p.138 139)
Gabrielle Solis is characterized as a determined and strong femme fetal. However, her character is
quickly undermined by this stereotypical demonstration instilled in many of the qualities that have
continued limiting and dehumanizing beliefs about Latina potentiality and morality. (Merskin D.,

The Vinland Map
Abstract: In the mid nineteen sixties, the Vinland map was found. It was renowned because it
demonstrated that the recorded reality that Columbus was the person who found America. In reality
Vikings were the ones who found America. The Vikings were fishermen and ranchers who ended up
being warriors who originated from Scandinavia; they lived from the year 793 until 1066. [Hassan,
2013] What is the evidence suggesting that the map might be authentic? Greenland was discovered
upper east of North America on the Vinland map, and it was particularly pointed by indicating and
exact to modern day maps of Greenland. In the mid 1990s, from the base of the map, a little example
was cut for carbon 14 dating. After a long time, the results were accounted for, and the example was
dated in the year 1425. In 1965, archeologists discovered correct confirmation that the Vikings arrived
500 years before Columbus. They found the old Viking settlement in Newfoundland. What is the
evidence suggesting whether the map is fake or not? Some of the examples to show if the map is fake
or not are as follows: The Ink examination which was done in 1966 when a meeting took place
between the handwriting authorities. The reasons why the English show lobby had rejected

The Election In The Election Of Liberia s Election
Liberia s 2017 election is set to be the first democratic transfer of power in decades (Pailey 2017). The
election came after Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former president, was unable to run because of
constitutionally mandated term limits. The pool of candidates shrunk from over one thousand to three
top candidates recently, with the runoff election being postponed for the time being. The three
candidates to remain are George Weah, of Weah s Coalition for Democratic Change, Joseph Boakai,
Vice President, and Charles Brumskine of the Liberty Party. In the first vote, Weah received 39
percent of the vote, Boakai 29 percent, and Brumskine 10 percent. Candidates need over 50 percent to
win in the first round, thus the run off. Weah is a popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brumskine s party goals include creating jobs, investing in infrastructure, reconciling the people,
ensuring the rule of law, and fighting corruption (Liberty Party Liberia 2017). The issues the people of
Liberia are voting on are highly connected to the study of contemporary African politics. A
cornerstone of African politics is the history it is built on. The country of Liberia is still impacted by
past colonial rule, civil war, and poor governance. All of these are common for countries in Africa. A
second important African election comes in the country of Rwanda. President Paul Kagame recently
won a third, seven year term. He won with a 99 percent margin of victory (Baddorf 2017). His
opponent was Frank Habineza, of the Democratic Green Party. Habineza placed importance in
environmental protections and allowing freedom of expression (afp 2017). Kagame s platform, though
sparse, vowed to strengthen the economy. Kagame s victory is tied to contemporary study of African
politics in many ways. Kagame is an excellent example of a leader whose personality has won him
elections, resulting in elections for cult of personality rather than policy. Kagame is credited with
assisting in ending the Rwandan genocide by leading rebel forces (Baddorf 2017). Further, the
international community supports Kagame as he brought the country to stability after the

Nature vs Nurture Essay
Nature vs Nurture
Most of us have an intuition that, although our genes provide advantages and constraints, we retain
great control over our lives. However, we are developing a second, competing intuition that, like it or
not, our genes determine our abilities, our preferences, and our emotions. We would like to think we
are much more than the sum of our genes, but scientists have apparently demonstrated that our genes
determine some of our most complex behavioral and cognitive characteristics.
The focus on genes as the primary mode of biological explanation has been especially clear in the
marketing of the Human Genome Project. In support of this project, Robert L. Sinsheimer, biologist

1987), and alcoholism (Gelernter et al. 1991). Authors of two studies claiming to have found a gene
for manic depression (in two different places), have both published retractions of their conclusions
(Barron et al. 1993, Kelsoe et al. 1989), unusual and embarrassing events among scientists. Research
in linking genes to complex human mental and behavioral characteristics has been tremendously
successful in molding public opinion, in he absence of much lasting scientific evidence.
The relationship between a gene and a human behaviour is rarely, if ever, a one to one
correspondence, even though disruption of a single gene occasionally has a dramatic effect on
behaviour. Nor can one quantify the contribution of genes as a whole to any particular behavior or
cognitive ability. Instead, each gene is a single player in an intricate story, involving non additive
interactions of genes, proteins, hormones, food and life experiences, thus leading to effects one variety
of cognitive and behavioural functions. Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors certainly have
biological mechanisms, but this does not mean we can separate and quantify the genetic contributions
to these processes.

Case Study Solving
Case Study Method in Management
Management education is mainly aimed at developing managerial skills in students. Amongst the
various methods adopted in teaching management and management functions, the case study method
developed in 1910 in U.S.A. and is now being propagated during the last decade or so, providing
opportunities to both the teacher and the taught to promote managerial I understanding and
competence, since it helps in contemplation and discussion of an actual situation. It is a wrong notion
that the case studies are confined to management students. Cases may pertain lo any discipline, where
skills for solving complex unstructured problems or preparing plans are required. The origin of case

The case study method of learning helps in developing skills on alternatives and decision making.
Case studies develop creative problem solving techniques.
According to Geofftaston the following six major skills areas are developed through case studies: 1.
Analytical skills· One learns to classify, organize, and evaluate the information handled. Using this
information one attempts to understand the situation described. This is, however, fraught with the
danger of not thinking logically when the information is taxing. 2. Application skills This is useful at a
lower level where concepts and principles, are applied, e.g., discounted cash flow. 3. Creative skills:
When cases cannot be solved by logical process alone creativity is a vital quality for a manager and is
more useful in decision making. 4. Communicative skills: By writing well constructed reports,
analysis and by discussions, both written and„ oral communicative skills are developed. Page No. 3..
5. Social skills: Case discussions are essentially a social process. One learns to communicate, listen,
support, argue, control oneself, etc. In fact, there is a belief that case courses are more a study of
human behaviour than problem solving. 6. Self analysis skills: A case is always useful in application
of the situation to oneself and one can analyse the situation with reference to oneself. Thus, it helps in

The New Challenge Of Spatial Planning Essay
The new challenge of spatial planning in UK localism dilemmas
1. Introduction:
The planning system in England has been subject to dramatic shifts when the Coalition government
was reselected after almost 70 years since 2010. (Gallent, Nick Hamiduddin, Iqbal Manuela Madeddu,
2013) This may be proved that the localism can have a significantly impact on urban planning or
spatial area field especially after the Localism Bill was promoted and enacted in Parliament on
November 2011. However, considerable of key questions had been raised with the implementation of
Localism Act: what kind of impact the localist planning have on spatial area and whether it is a proper
formation for the contemporary English spatial planning to practice localism. This assignment will try
to find out what localism is and demonstrate the impact of localism in England. The aim of this
assignment is not only to address these questions but also in purpose of assessing the advantages and
disadvantages of localism to demonstrate the achievements that spatial planning can earn from the
localism.
This paper will begin by focusing on the development of localism in England. It will then illustrate the
spatial city planning in England. The third part will be comparison of the positive or negative
influence the localism has on English spatial planning. The aim is to show whether it is appropriate
framework for English planning system to promote localism. The following part will show the

The Change Of A Change Leader
I believe that the change that is to occur has a large part on the strategies that a change leader must use
to build employee commitment and buy in. According to Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) Getting
people to buy in may depend upon what it is that they are buying into: whether they perceive it as
favorable to them and whether the change had been adequately justified to them (p.302). If it was a
small change, it doesn t take much to get people to buy in, but if it is a large change it will take some
work. The first strategy that I would use as a change leader to communicate a change is to discuss the
need for the change. I believe that if people can see why the process needs to changed, it will open
them up to the possibility of a change. I have seen a lot of process done wrong or a slow way because
it was how it has always been done in that organization. If someone would have come into that
organization and told them that the amount of time they were wasting and showed them the new way,
I think the organization would buy in. The second strategy that I would use for communicating the
change is to provide everyone with accurate information on the change, it would include how the
change is going to happen and how it will affect everyone. I will only send out information that I feel
they need to know so I do not overload them. Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) state information
overload is even more problematic in companies where participants are already in receipt of a

This is most likely the reason these young athletes elect to turn professional early. With the NCAA
bringing in more money every year and student athletes starting to ask for a chuck of the profit pie.
Should student athletes get paid for the helping the NCAA grow its brand or should they continue to
be strictly amateurs?
Many believe that paying college athletes is wrong because they are amateurs, or students first and
athletes second. With tuition continuing to raise the average athletic scholarships aren t covering the
costs anymore. There is a misconception that most college athletes on athletic scholarships are getting
everything paid for, in reality that s actually false. For example, a Division I basketball team is granted
thirteen scholarships each year. Of those thirteen scholarships the University is allowed to split them
up however they feel. These scholarships are for incoming students from high school and returning
student athletes that had their scholarship picked up for another year. According to author Mark
Kantrowitz, less than 20,000 students a year receive an entirely free ride to college (O Shaughnessy,
2011). That number is students total, not student athletes, that is a very small number when you see
that there were 453,347 NCAA student athletes in 2012 13 (Brown, 2013). Student athletes don t have
it as good as most would think. They are normally

Sustainable Tea at Unilever
op yo To survive and prosper over the long term, learn how to adapt your business model by making it
servant to society and the environment. Not the other way around.
Paul Polman, CEO, Unilever
In 2010 Unilever announced its commitment to a new Sustainable Living Plan , a document that set
wide ranging company wide goals for improving the health and well being of consumers, reducing
environmental impact, and, perhaps most ambitiously, sourcing 100% of agricultural raw materials
sustainably by 2020. Such a goal implied a massive transformation of a supply chain that sourced

India, for example, was a major tea producer and consumer, but the small scale of many of the farms
and the nature of local farming practices made certification a significant challenge. What should
Unilever do in such markets? Should Unilever hold fast to Rainforest Alliance certification or instead
work to implement incremental change through standards better suited for Indian practices? How
could they persuade hundreds of thousands of smallholders to adopt new farming methods in market s
where most tea production and consumption was local and Unilever was far from the dominant buyer?
op yo The second issue was whether and how Unilever could gain market advantage from its move to
sustainable tea. While the adoption of Rainforest Alliance certification appeared to have led to market
share growth in some Western markets, it was not clear either that this would continue or that the
concept of a sustainability message would resonate with consumers in developing markets like
Turkey, India, or Russia. How should Unilever market its sustainability efforts in emerging markets?
Beyond these two key issues several other smaller but also potentially important questions also
consumed Unilever s attention. The Unilever Sustainable Living Plan committed the company to

Essay on Compensation and Benefits Strategy
Compensation and Benefits Strategy
Landslide Limousine (LL), a small business in Austin, Texas, hired Atwood and Allen Consulting
(AAC) to conduct a market evaluation and provide recommendations for the following: a position in
the market, a compensation structure, a total compensation and benefits strategy, and performance
incentives and merit based pay to recognize and engage employees. This will help to identify
applicable laws related to pay and benefits. This paper includes citations from one peer reviewed
book, three government websites, four commercial websites, and one University of Phoenix online
course material. Market Evaluation

Position in the Market
The company s ability to pay is less than that of its competitors and will remain constrained until the
company can establish a reputation and gain a share of the market (Cascio, 2013, p. 420), so the
company should position itself carefully in the market. LL should allocate 25% of its budget for salary
and benefits and use performance incentives, merit based pay to keep fixed labor costs low. LL should
pay employees $9.33 per hour, which is $19,406 per year and is $2 per hour less than industry average
for Austin, Texas. The company should pay management a salary 5% higher than employees to
maintain the balance of compensation rates (Cascio, 2013, pp. 423 424). The company should use
additional benefits, performance based incentives, and merit pay to attract, retain, and motivate
employees who share the company s vision and goals (Cascio, 2013, p. 423).
Total Compensation and Benefits Strategy The total compensation and benefits strategy of the
company should place an emphasis on compensation through incentives with a reduced fixed labor
cost. If the company is successful, employees receive additional compensation and if the company is
experiencing difficulty gaining a market share or if there is an economic downturn, the company has a
reduced labor cost (Cascio, 2013, p. 420). The company should not use pay grades because of hybrid
positions and maintaining the flexibility to modify job descriptions to fit the needs of the

Fritz Lang s Metropolis
It is highly probable that when German Cinema in general is talked about, Metropolis (1927) is one of
the first titles to spring to mind. Fritz Lang is, in his career within and without Germany, a name that
evokes authority in filmmaking.
Premiering in Berlin with Halblutt in 1919, he would never imagine that one day his mind would craft
an epic of the calibre that is Metropolis. A primitive sci fi narrative with daring sets and expansive
cinematography, the magnitude of the film s editing is sheer magic, with well timed shots perfectly
placed to tell a story in silent configuration, yet with a charming expressiveness.
Also daring was its thematic structure, the telling of two lovers from distinct social classes who could
never be together

Oh, The Shark Has Pretty Teeth Dear and He Show s em, Pearly White When the image of a vampire
is brought to mind one imagines a tall, thin and pale European aristocratic man dressed in fine clothes
and displaying a set of pearly white fangs. However neither the aristocratic status nor the fangs can be
found in folkloric accounts of vampirism. The true image of a vampire is a difficult thing to describe
due to the influence that different cultures have had on the development of the myth. The depiction of
vampirism in Bram Stoker s Dracula and Richard Matheson s I Am Legend differ from one another
and while these depictions stray from the folkloric accounts of vampires both find their roots in
legend. The folkloric vampire has taken many different forms and has held a variety of traits, skills
and weaknesses; each mirroring the customs, beliefs, and fears of different cultures (Bartlett 1). I can
be difficult to find one all encompassing description of a vampire due to the myths discrepancy among
cultures. Vampire myths and legends exist in many cultures spanning the globe. Each has its own
beliefs in regards to the creation, appearance, abilities, and extermination of vampires. In Vampirism
as Mental Illness: Myth, Madness and the Loss of Meaning in Psychiatry blood is described as being
an essential source of life and vitality (MacSuibhne). Blood has a crucial role in the maintenance of

  • 2. A Romantic And Modernist Perspective Kyle D. Brubaker Dr. Vernooy ENG 237 01 11 December 2014 Memory: A Romantic and Modernist Perspective During an age when Britain was producing more writing than perhaps ever before in its history; romantic writers such as Wordsworth and Coleridge place a large emphasis on nature and what impact this construct has on the mind and imagination, while modernist writers such as Hardy, Lawrence, and Yeats attempt to exercise a strong break from tradition. This ideal of straying from the pack creates a sense of bitterness and radical doubt throughout the modernist period, and thus, causes citizens living in this time to carry about their daily activities with doubt and pessimistic attitudes. After examining the literary movements of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One can argue that William Wordsworth believes that memory can be utilized as an anecdote that is able to cure someone s pain, while a writer such as Thomas Hardy would disapprove of this Wordsworthian ideal by believing that memory is simply a shroud of gray (Vernooy). This claim can be supported as true when Wordsworth s Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey is examined more closely. Within this piece, Wordsworth states, These beauteous forms/Through a long absence, have not been to me/As is a landscape to a blind man s eye/But oft, in lonely rooms, and mid the din/Of towns and cities, I have owed to them/In hours of weariness, sensations sweet (Wordsworth 23 27). Here, Wordsworth provides a detailed description about how nature is able to provide a safe haven for him in a time when Britain s cities are looking to industrialize more than ever. By personifying nature during this time of economic crisis, Wordsworth is creating an outlet that aids him in moving forward. Conversely, Thomas Hardy encompasses the idea of nature and memory by almost insulting Wordsworth. For instance, Hardy would argue that one cannot sit on the couch and rekindle old memories in order to transgress, but instead, one needs to be out and about in order to gather as many physical memories as humanly possible. Within Hardy s Under the Waterfall, the female persona is attempting to rekindle one of her past memories, which as we all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The movie s title was taken from her first hit song she wrote and recorded. Elliott s life from the very start was surrounded in music. In the beginning of the film she is shown at the age of two, giggling and happily performing songs she had made up to entertain her family during a long car ride. As both her parents were musically inclined, it is no wonder she possessed such a natural talent and love for music. Throughout the film, Elliott is portrayed as having two entirely different personas. An extrovert in public and a introvert in private, she at one point refers to herself as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an unexpected turn of events, after graduation, Elliott decides to return to her first love, performing music. She had already been writing songs and performing in bars and clubs during the last few years of college. Upon graduating, with determined focus and in what seems like a brush with fate, becomes a well known and successful singer at age forty. In one scene, after an exceptionally magnificent performance with her blues rock band, joyful emotions run high. On stage, Elliott leads her audience to believe that her lyrics in her famous song Stronger, God I just want to be set free, from this black dog that chains me are an uplifting expression of resilience after courageously finding her own way after divorce. In fact, many fans repeatedly shower her with compliments of how much this song reflects their own struggles. Suddenly, the film cuts from bright lights and stardom to a dark and lonely room, thick with desolation. In those moments of solitude, it is clear that she wrote these words not about her resilience, but instead encompassing her own lifelong struggle with depression. Even through the realization of her childhood dream of becoming a famous singer, she still has not found peace within. Whether surrounded by fans or alone in a room, there is a constant loneliness and feeling of separation. The repetitive words spoken from everyone surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dalida Research Paper In a career that spanned four decades, 30 years, 1,000 songs, and earned her more than 90 gold and platinum records, Egyptian born and French residing pop singer Dalida lived a fascinating and tragic life of celebrity. After her breakout in 1956, Dalida s breathtaking beauty and distinctive voice made her an instant star, which gave her all the riches and spoils one could hope for, but amplified her vulnerabilites and weaknesses which fame and success exploited. Directed by Liza Azuelos (LOL), the film tells the singer s story in a non linear way, beginning with her lying to her brother in a French airport in 1967, then secretly heading to a Parisian hotel. She is reeling from the recent suicide of her lover, burgeoning Italian pop singer Luigi Tenco, and has decided to attempt to take her own life. Not successful, she then is moved to a facility and doctors bring in those closest to her to learn more about her struggles. We traverse through her life at a relatively rapid speed, making Dalida a film that quickly becomes a highlight reel of a subject s life. Born Iolanda Gigliotti, she was bullied and rejected by her peers in grade school and saw her family persecuted during World War II. Her vocal talents soon emerged and in her early 20 s she was discovered by radio station magnate Lucien Morisse (NAME). So taken with one another, Morisse left his wife for Iolanda and began managing her career. Once stardom begin to swirl around Dalida, her rise is rather meteoric and ... • 7. Reflection Paper On Therapy Self Assessment: Therapist For my MFT 507class, I was in a group with Elizabeth and Jaime. We did a vignette to practice what we have learned in class and imply it in the therapy session. We switched roles and always treated each other with kindness and respect. I will refer Jaime as Debby, so there will not be any confusion. Impressions I learned many things with the vignette we did in class. Active listening is important be cause it helped Debby see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op portunity to clarify any misunderstanding. The assessment helped me to think critically and find out the reason why Debby came to therapy. When I was watching the video, I was impressed how easily Debby and I build a bond. I had the same name as her daughter and that made her feel comfortable. My strength regarding this vignette was how calmly I talked to Debby. I am able to use verbal and nonverbal behavior. For example, I used ummm to agree with Debbie, so she can see that I am on the same track as her. This experience makes me see this is the career I want to pursuit. The role playing as a therapist and having a senior citizen client open my mind and see that each person are different that have different problems. • 8. Children Should Not Receive Scheduled Vaccinations Children are a vulnerable group within a population with respect to diseases, which then increases their susceptibility to various illnesses, as adults generally have a stronger immune system as compared to children. Steens, Beasley, Tsui, and Lee (1975) argued that children are more prone to be a carrier of diseases than adults (as cited in Anderson and May, 1985). With that being said, the focus remains on vaccinating children as the majority are in school for a great amount of time where they are in proximity of one another, the continuous sharing of items, and are usually inconsistent with hand hygiene. Under those circumstances, Anderson and May (1985) found that in children aged 5 15 infection rates would increase as a result of close contact within schools. Children who do not receive scheduled vaccinations put themselves, as well as others at risk for vaccine preventable diseases, as infants who are too young of age to receive vaccines, children, elderly, and community members who have compromised immune systems most vulnerable to acquiring vaccine preventable diseases. Omer, Salmon, Orenstein, DeHart, Halsey (2009) argued that outbreaks of diseases regularly begins with individuals who refuse vaccinations, as it spreads within communities and other populations. Combining these factors, there is a high possibility of outbreaks in schools of life threatening illnesses such as measles, mumps, and polio that unfortunately has taken many lives retrospectively. Was he as man with good intentions, but corrupted by his position of power, or was he a man who was malicious and sought to destroy Jesus. Callie Callon, a professor in the school of theology at the University of Toronto, wrote an article titled Pilate the Villain: An Alternative Reading of Matthew s Portrayal of Pilate . This article argued that Matthew s depiction of Pilate places him in the position of a villain in the passion story. She uses Biblical and historical information to support her claim. I do think that there is some truth to this statement, but I that Pilate tries his best to maneuver around the crowd by offering Jesus up against a criminal and by not taking part in the crucifixion. I think based on his place in the government he is stuck having to appeal to the crowd s wishes because he is clearly outnumbered. I feel like it is a difficult position to place all the blame on Pilate, but I do not think he is totally innocent in this case. He could have used his political power and overruled the crowd, possibly, but I think he was worried how that would affect his position. Yes this is selfish motivation, but we do live in a selfish and fallen world and what would you do if you were in his position? I think that there definitely is a counter argument to be made here, but I do not think I would totally agree with Callie Callon by saying that Pontius Pilate is Villain, just based on the biblical evidence provided in ... • 10. Arhaus Furniture Several years ago, after deciding to redecorate my living room, I visited Arhaus Furniture. The thing about decorating is that my tastes never seem to match my budget, which is how I got into this gardening mess. Arhaus carried table accents that consisted of a shallow round or square ceramic dish full of lush, green, neatly manicured grass. Immediately, I was smitten with the unique concept, but not with the price. After leaving the furniture store, I called my husband and rattled off my list of necessary items grass seed, potting soil, and fertilizer. Considering that I have killed every plant ever purchased, it was evident he thought this was yet another one of my fly by night ideas, yet he went along with the plan. My responsibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you re like me, you can t wait to get your fingers in the dirt and you want to get that old brown lawn looking lush and green again. If you live in the western United States, and you know that after October your lawn will become dormant and brown, the following is a 4 step process to help renovate your lawn. The fundamentals of getting that beautiful yard begins with a spring fertilizer; nitrate and phosphate. When you look at a bag of fertilizer, there are usually two or three numbers on the bag, for example: 30 10 0 which means 30 parts nitrate which is always the first number and 10 parts phosphate which is always the second number. The nitrate greens up the lawn fast and the phosphate establishes a strong root system. This is your spring fertilizer, which should be applied first. A good way to decide when to apply fertilizer is to do it close to the holidays; Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor day. If you are worried about weeds, you can use a fertilizer with a pre emergence in it. In case you are unfamiliar with this type of product, you need to know that a pre emergence keeps seeds from germinating. It does not differentiate between flower, vegetable or weed seeds, so you must be sure that it is not applied in areas where you have flower or vegetable seeds. Many people like to use a weed and feed fertilizer, thinking this will eliminate all the weeds. A weed and feed fertilizer can only be used when weeds are actively growing because the chemical in the product has to attach itself to the weed in order to kill it. If applied before the weeds are growing, you will have wasted your time and your fertilizer. Memorial day fertilization means a fertilizer with less nitrate, such as a 25 5 10, which is 25 parts of nitrate, 5 parts phosphate, and 12 parts of potassium. You can also find something like this with a slow release iron, which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This style of writing typically relates back to fiction that gives an atmosphere of uncertainty by featuring horror, death, curses or the supernatural. In The Signalman written by Charles Dickens, we can depict that his writing falls under the category of traditional gothic literature as he chooses to stress the fear of the unknown whether it be the setting or the supernatural. On the contrary, Roald Dahl who wrote Lamb to the Slaughter chooses to write under the category of contemporary gothic literature, as we are introduced to a familiar setting, and common issues that arise when we face reality. He couldn t think straight as his mind was focused on figuring out what it was and why it seemed to warn him, and this ultimately led to his demise. By zooming in on the word misleads , it evidently shows us how he was involuntarily submerged with thoughts that drowned him and how failing to control his sanity led to his downfall, and later, his death. Additionally, the quote May have been infection in his mind similarly shows us how the appearance of the individual almost triggered this thought that infected his mind and rid him of thoughts that were unperturbed. (Eyffinger 227) Merely 20 years later, World War One had seen the daily use of airplanes and pilots for unyielding combat. While slow at first, the recognition of the power of aircraft was quick as the Great War started. Out of all countries involved in the war, Germany had the deepest trust in their aircraft, and this would shortly be to their advantage. Attaching a gun behind the propellers would hit the blades, effectively downing the aircraft. There were many positions attempted, such as placing the gun over the wing. One German inventor, Anthony Fokker, introduced the synchronisation device. This device controlled the machine gun shots so it would fire only when the propeller blades were not in the bullet trajectory. Once the Allied adopted this technology, the main role of airplanes was changed. New war planes, built for the sole purpose of air combat, were being rapidly manufactured. By 1916 it was a common sight to see airplanes in the air, fighting for their country. The role of the airplane had changed from a small fragile aircraft to a strong machine capable of shooting down multiple enemies. As a result, the feeling towards how planes were being used in the war changed drastically throughout the war. The pilots were treated with honour and respect due to how easily they could be shot out of the sky. This however, did not stop recruits for joining the air force. • 31. The Election In The Election Of Liberia s Election Liberia s 2017 election is set to be the first democratic transfer of power in decades (Pailey 2017). The election came after Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former president, was unable to run because of constitutionally mandated term limits. The pool of candidates shrunk from over one thousand to three top candidates recently, with the runoff election being postponed for the time being. The three candidates to remain are George Weah, of Weah s Coalition for Democratic Change, Joseph Boakai, Vice President, and Charles Brumskine of the Liberty Party. In the first vote, Weah received 39 percent of the vote, Boakai 29 percent, and Brumskine 10 percent. Candidates need over 50 percent to win in the first round, thus the run off. Brumskine s party goals include creating jobs, investing in infrastructure, reconciling the people, ensuring the rule of law, and fighting corruption (Liberty Party Liberia 2017). The issues the people of Liberia are voting on are highly connected to the study of contemporary African politics. A cornerstone of African politics is the history it is built on. The country of Liberia is still impacted by past colonial rule, civil war, and poor governance. All of these are common for countries in Africa. A second important African election comes in the country of Rwanda. President Paul Kagame recently won a third, seven year term. He won with a 99 percent margin of victory (Baddorf 2017). His opponent was Frank Habineza, of the Democratic Green Party. Habineza placed importance in environmental protections and allowing freedom of expression (afp 2017). Kagame s platform, though sparse, vowed to strengthen the economy. Kagame s victory is tied to contemporary study of African politics in many ways. Kagame is an excellent example of a leader whose personality has won him elections, resulting in elections for cult of personality rather than policy. Kagame is credited with assisting in ending the Rwandan genocide by leading rebel forces (Baddorf 2017). However, we are developing a second, competing intuition that, like it or not, our genes determine our abilities, our preferences, and our emotions. We would like to think we are much more than the sum of our genes, but scientists have apparently demonstrated that our genes determine some of our most complex behavioral and cognitive characteristics. The focus on genes as the primary mode of biological explanation has been especially clear in the marketing of the Human Genome Project. In support of this project, Robert L. Authors of two studies claiming to have found a gene for manic depression (in two different places), have both published retractions of their conclusions (Barron et al. 1993, Kelsoe et al. 1989), unusual and embarrassing events among scientists. Research in linking genes to complex human mental and behavioral characteristics has been tremendously successful in molding public opinion, in he absence of much lasting scientific evidence. The relationship between a gene and a human behaviour is rarely, if ever, a one to one correspondence, even though disruption of a single gene occasionally has a dramatic effect on behaviour. Nor can one quantify the contribution of genes as a whole to any particular behavior or cognitive ability. Instead, each gene is a single player in an intricate story, involving non additive interactions of genes, proteins, hormones, food and life experiences, thus leading to effects one variety of cognitive and behavioural functions. Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors certainly have biological mechanisms, but this does not mean we can separate and quantify the genetic contributions to these processes. References: Baron, M., N. According to Geofftaston the following six major skills areas are developed through case studies: 1. Analytical skills· One learns to classify, organize, and evaluate the information handled. Using this information one attempts to understand the situation described. This is, however, fraught with the danger of not thinking logically when the information is taxing. 2. Application skills This is useful at a lower level where concepts and principles, are applied, e.g., discounted cash flow. 3. Creative skills: When cases cannot be solved by logical process alone creativity is a vital quality for a manager and is more useful in decision making. 4. Communicative skills: By writing well constructed reports, analysis and by discussions, both written and„ oral communicative skills are developed. Page No. 3.. 5. Introduction: The planning system in England has been subject to dramatic shifts when the Coalition government was reselected after almost 70 years since 2010. (Gallent, Nick Hamiduddin, Iqbal Manuela Madeddu, 2013) This may be proved that the localism can have a significantly impact on urban planning or spatial area field especially after the Localism Bill was promoted and enacted in Parliament on November 2011. However, considerable of key questions had been raised with the implementation of Localism Act: what kind of impact the localist planning have on spatial area and whether it is a proper formation for the contemporary English spatial planning to practice localism. This assignment will try to find out what localism is and demonstrate the impact of localism in England. The aim of this assignment is not only to address these questions but also in purpose of assessing the advantages and disadvantages of localism to demonstrate the achievements that spatial planning can earn from the localism. • 39. The Change Of A Change Leader I believe that the change that is to occur has a large part on the strategies that a change leader must use to build employee commitment and buy in. According to Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) Getting people to buy in may depend upon what it is that they are buying into: whether they perceive it as favorable to them and whether the change had been adequately justified to them (p.302). If it was a small change, it doesn t take much to get people to buy in, but if it is a large change it will take some work. The first strategy that I would use as a change leader to communicate a change is to discuss the need for the change. I believe that if people can see why the process needs to changed, it will open them up to the possibility of a change. I have seen a lot of process done wrong or a slow way because it was how it has always been done in that organization. If someone would have come into that organization and told them that the amount of time they were wasting and showed them the new way, I think the organization would buy in. The second strategy that I would use for communicating the change is to provide everyone with accurate information on the change, it would include how the change is going to happen and how it will affect everyone. I will only send out information that I feel they need to know so I do not overload them. Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) state information overload is even more problematic in companies where participants are already in receipt of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Should the NCAA start sharing the profits with these student athletes, which every year help grow the NCAA brand? Student athletes are going to college on scholarships which are sold to them by coaches, scouts, and other school administration as a commitment to the student s future. With the NCAA bringing in more money every year and student athletes starting to ask for a chuck of the profit pie. Should student athletes get paid for the helping the NCAA grow its brand or should they continue to be strictly amateurs? Many believe that paying college athletes is wrong because they are amateurs, or students first and athletes second. With tuition continuing to raise the average athletic scholarships aren t covering the costs anymore. There is a misconception that most college athletes on athletic scholarships are getting everything paid for, in reality that s actually false. For example, a Division I basketball team is granted thirteen scholarships each year. Of those thirteen scholarships the University is allowed to split them up however they feel. These scholarships are for incoming students from high school and returning student athletes that had their scholarship picked up for another year.
