Comparative Study of Agricultural Production Diversity and Household Diet Div...BRNSS Publication Hub
This study was conducted to find out agricultural production diversity and household diet diversity
in farming households and examine their statistical relationship. Data on production, consumption,
and socioeconomic factors were collected from the cross-sectional survey using the semi-structured
questionnaire in 2018, in which 120 respondents (60 from Kailali district and 60 from Syangja district)
were interviewed. Agricultural production diversity was defined from species count for each household,
and household diet diversity was obtained from dietary diversity score (DDS) using 12 food groups by
the FAO in preceding 24 h recall period. Data analysis in the SPSS showed that the average species
count of each household was 11.79 with average crop and livestock count of 7.95 and 3.88, respectively.
Average DDS was 7.7 with minimum value 4 and maximum value 10. Agricultural production diversity
and household diet diversity were positively correlated (0.249, at 0.01 level). Household diet diversity
was positively correlated with size of landholding and size of kitchen garden. The consumption behavior
shows that 100% of household have consumed cereals, 75% have consumed milk products, 52% have
consumed fruits, and only 21% of the respondents have consumed meat and egg in the last 24 h recall
period. Percentage of household consuming milk and milk products were higher in Syangja, whereas
households consuming meat, egg, and fish were higher in Kailali. Wheat items were major alternative
staple food in Kailali, whereas maize, millet, and wheat items were common alternative staple foods in
Syangja. This study suggests that diversified agricultural production system is a promising strategy to
provide diversified diet and ultimately improve food and nutrition security of farming households.

Rice is one of main food crops in the worlds so knowing about how is origin may important to the people engage in the agriculture extension or advisory or education

Know also some reminders on social media etiquette, to avoid getting into trouble with employers and host country with restrictive policies on internet usage.
The past 50 years have been a period of extraordinary food crop productivity and growth. Despite these massive gains in productivity and agricultural development, malnutrition has persisted across certain regions of the developing world. In India, these challenges, which range from micronutrient malnutrition and the emergence of over-nutrition, have created a challenging landscape of health and human nutrition. Despite exceptional economic growth, high rates of childhood stunting and micronutrient malnutrition persist. Improved agricultural policies that can change nutritional outcomes require a better understanding of the links between agriculture and nutrition, as well as complimentary policies in water, sanitation, and household behavior change. This lecture presents international lessons learned in successfully using agricultural pathways to reduce malnutrition with important implications for the Indian context.

GLOBAL FOOD POLICY REPORT
Kenya Discussion of IFPRI’s 2023 Global Food Policy Report: Rethinking Food Crisis Responses
In collaboration with University of Nairobi and part of the CGIAR Initiative on National Policies and Strategies (NPS) Seminar Series

Food security has been a high priority in the socio-economic policy of Uzbekistan since the early years of independence. As a result of policies pursued, Uzbekistan has managed to achieve (and maintain thereafter) grain independence,1 and increase its per capita production of meat, milk, eggs, fruit and vegetables substantially enough to achieve self-sufficiency in basic foods. These accomplishments have been made possible mainly by institutional reforms, including the transformation of inefficient shirkats (agricultural cooperatives) into private farms, the development of private initiatives in food storage, processing and distribution, the establishment of the Arable Land Amelioration Fund to maintain and improve the quality of farmland, and so on.
Ensuring food security, therefore, will require more complex approaches, policies and tools. Therefore, in order to ensure the nation’s food security in the long term more complex and comprehensive approaches and policies need
to be implemented. Food security should be considered as an integrated issue incorporating three key dimensions: 1) food availability; 2) access to food; and 3) balanced and highquality nutrition. The principal benchmarks of food policy should address these three key areas.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Th3_The Role of Rice in Changing Food Consumption Patterns in West Africa
1. The Role of Rice in Changing
Food Consumption Patterns in
West Africa
Nathalie M. Me-Nsope & John M. Staatz
Michigan State University
October 2013
2. Background/Context
• West Africa : Changes - social and economic
environment in the last 25 years
• Structural changes: Urbanization, population, growth
in per capita incomes
• Changes in relative prices – SAP; 1994 FCFA
devaluation*; 2007-2008 global food crisis
• Time-poor urban consumers.
• Changes in the mix of starchy staples, even in rural
areas.
• Regional average rice production < 65% in domestic
rice supply (exceptions: Mali and Nigeria)
• Regional rice import dependence rate= decreased but
still > 75% for some (Senegal)
3. Research Relevance and Contribution
Relevance
I.Implications for food security (availability)
II.Implications for developing successful production & marketing
strategies for rice & other starchy staples in WA
Contribution
Empirical Aggregate-Level Food Demand studies
◦ Relative prices versus structural factors
Pre-devaluation-is the high rice consumption due to lower
relative price of rice/wheat?
E.g. Delgado (1989);Delgado and Reardon (1992)- structural factors
Post 1994 CFAF devaluation-Have rice prices increased
enough to shift consumption away from rice?
E.g. Diangana et al. (1999)—urban WA-Expected shift didn’t occur.
4. Research Objectives, Methods & Data
1. To examine changing patterns of rice consumption in the
context of broader consumption shifts in all starchy staples
(cereals plus roots & tubers) in ECOWAS in 1980-2009.
–
Descriptive analysis –FAOSTAT Food Balance Sheet 1980-2009

Trend in the composition of food availability by major starchy staple
type.
1. Econometric analysis of the determinants of rice share in
starchy staple calories.
–
More data: Urban population shares and GDP per capita (World
Bank).
5. Findings
A. Descriptive Analysis
I.
Trends in the level of food availability
• Overall- shift towards greater daily energy availability (DEA);
Driven mainly by starchy staples (SS) calorie availability. SS share
in per capita DEA > 50% for most.
9. Findings Cont.
B. Econometric Analysis
Model:
Where:
Sit= rice share (%) in SS calories in country i at time t;
Xt= per capita GDP (constant $ US) ;
di= country dummies; and Ut= urban population share
Estimation Method: Ordinary Least Squares.
10. Findings Cont.

11. Conclusions and Policy Implications(PI)
1. Evidence of a diversification in the composition of SS supply and
some substitution amongst major SS types (more than rice/wheat
VS. traditional SS). It involves other SS (cassava, yams, sweet
potatoes, Irish potatoes and maize).
– PI-1: Scope to encourage ongoing diversification & substitution in
consumption
1. Positive relationship between rice calorie share and GDP/capita
growth in rice demand as people get richer.
– PI-2: Efforts geared towards expanding rice production and reducing the
unit cost of production are necessary to capture this growing effective
demand.
•
Effect of urbanization-conventional wisdom holds in 11/15.
– Special cases:
• The Gambia and Nigeria- Data problems
• Sierra Leone and Liberia-Civil disruption
