The Winter
We ve got to get those crops in soon honey. The rains are coming and so is the cold.
Yes I know dear. I m not even sure we will have enough for the winter. Oh Morgan, I m worried. With
Suzie crook and these fusses lately; she s just a girl. Not very strong you know. Yes Barbara, I know. If
we just conserve what supplies the good Lord has helped us gather for the coming seasons. I ll try to
hunt for more meat; I ll trap some more furs to sell at the markets before the bite of winter truly sets
in. We ll be fine honey.
Oh I hope so Morgan. I Really do.
It was a simple home that Morgan had constructed himself when they settled here two years ago. He
had sawn and shaped the timber poles with some help from the neighbors well, hardly neighbors since
the closest one was about three miles away across rough terrain.
However, it served. He had even installed real glass panels in the window frames. They cost a pretty
penny, and yet absolutely essential in this harsh and extreme climate up here in the mountains. Flat
land was not common at such an altitude. The soil was rich from ancient volcanic activity in the area.
Crops grew well, usually despite the terrain. This year had been a harsher one however than from what
the locals had said; for ten years or thereabouts .
It was that same period of time in which several families, starved to death in their mountain huts
because of crop failures. Bodies had lain undiscovered until the next spring, looking like frozen meat

Belmont High Senior Monologue Essay
I am fixing my hair, and humming along to a song I heard on the radio, when I hear the concert start. I
heard the announcements begin and the lights go dim. There was people all around me. People tripped
over cords or called out demands. Some had microscopic mics on their faces, some had been putting
on makeup on.
Welcome, welcome, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, to our 17th annual Belmont High Senior
Concert! Our chorus teacher cried.
I was volunteered to sing a solo. Even though the song I was supposed to sing was the third song of
the night, I was shivering with fright. I was shaking so hard that when I was applying my eyeliner, I
accidently did a winged eyeliner instead of the natural looking one. Voices in my head were telling ...

Luckily I could read her mind too. She was telling me I could do this.
She started singing the first line of Rue s Lullaby from The Hunger Games Soundtrack.
Deep in the meadow, I joined her.
Under the willow,
A bed of grass a soft green pillow
Lay down your head, and close your eyes.
And when they open, the sun will rise.
I closed my eyes as the song said.
Here it s safe, and here it s warm.
Here the daisies guard you from every harm.
Here your dreams are sweet, and tomorrow brings them true.
Here is the place where I love you.
I felt my heart steady.
Deep in the meadow, hidden far away.
A cloak of green, a moonbeam ray.
Forget your woes, and let your troubles lay.
And when again it s morning, they ll wash away.
Here it s safe, and here it s warm.
Here the daisies guard you from every harm.
Hre your dreams are sweet, and tomorrow brings them true.
I opened my eyes.
Here is the place where I love you.
And for the first time while I was singing, I smiled.
I was so into the song that I didn t see Evy slip away into the back of the stage where she had hymned
the background music. The audience erupted into a roar. Everyone in the audience stood up. A person
was walking towards the stage. I recognized him immediately. His name was Ansel. He was a college
scout for Juilliard. He asked to see me after the show.
Once Evy and I are off stage we could not stop squealing. There was only one thing that happens

Ut Austin s Office Of Admissions
UT Austin s Office of Admissions Personal Connections as a Consultant I selected UT Austin s Office
of Admissions for my consultancy project due to the unique opportunity to give back in a way I
thought would be helpful. I also hoped to utilize what I learned to increase my understanding of its
challenges. My career in higher education began with UT Austin s Office of Admissions in 2006. After
six years, I requested a role with greater responsibility, believing I needed more space to grow than the
organization would allow at the time. In 2013, Dr. Ishop, vice provost and director of admissions
appointed me to oversee undergraduate admissions and recruitment in the College of Natural Sciences
(CNS), a pilot, hybrid position between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Admitted students with high need and lower probability of four year completion, were de incentivized
from matriculation by way of inadequate funding to support their enrollment. Students most impacted
by these changes in policy and practice were disproportionately from underrepresented backgrounds
and under resourced secondary schools, creating conflict between admissions practices that focused on
crafting a diverse freshmen class and greater institutional emphasis on four year completion.
Though I remained closely connected to the Office of Admissions during my time in CNS, I observed,
as in outsider, significant staffing changes, compromised staff morale, and increased skepticism the
institution held for admissions and recruitment staff. In addition, recruitment efforts were often
berated publicly as the cause for matriculation declines by ethnicity, major, or caliber. More than 15
admissions officers, the majority from the recruitment division, resigned due to dissatisfaction and/or
lack of confidence in changes in leadership and direction of the institution many of these positions
were not replaced. Due to changes in leadership in both admissions and CNS, my position is returning
to the Office of Admissions in June 2016. Given the state of the organization, I sought to address the
following questions:
1. How is the institution and organizational mission understood by the recruitment

Essay on Effect of violence seen on Television
The Effects of Violence Seen on Television
One Saturday morning when I was five years old, I was watching an episode of the Roadrunner on
television. As Wile Coyote was pushed off a cliff by the roadrunner for the fourth or fifth time, I
started laughing uncontrollably. I then watched a Bugs Bunny show and started laughing whenever I
saw Elmer Fudd shoot Daffy Duck and his bill went twirling around his head. The next day, I pushed
my brother off a cliff and shot my dog to see ifs its head would twirl around.
Obviously, the last sentence is not true. The example above is an exaggeration of the effects of
violence on television can have on children. To a five year old child, ... Show more content on

Some watched cartoons that had many violent and aggressive acts; others watched shows that did not
have any kind of violence. The researchers noticed real differences between the children who watched
violent shows and those who watched non violent shows. Children who watched the violent shows
were more likely to argue, disobey, strike playmates, and become impatient ( ). Children s minds are
like sponges; they take in everything around them, and unless they are told something is not ok, they
will believe that it is ok to do the example presented to them.
From personal observation of working around children for about twenty hours per week, children do
imitate the violent acts they see on television. Physical Violence is more notable in boys than girls,
whereas girls are more violent verbally than physically. I note two different instances when
entertaining a group of kids in a birthday party. At a birthday party of nine year old boys, they tend to
become bored and distracted very easily. I turned my back for only a few minutes when a boy began
imitating wrestling moves he had seen on a wrestling television show. I am sure the show he saw was
for entertainment purposes only and was never meant to be reenacted; however, he was under the
impression that the wrestling moves were ok to try on his friends. At a ten year old girls birthday
party, the theme of the party was Lizzie McGuire, a popular sitcom on the

Alternatively, There Are Those Arguments That Individuals
Alternatively, there are those arguments that individuals make that are based on opinions, yet if

demonstrated in the example of the story On Turning Poverty into an American Crime . Overall, On
Turning Poverty into an American Crime written by Barbara Ehrenreich is based on a piece from the
writing of How the Safety Net Became a Dragnet from August 09, 2011 which elaborates on how bad
poverty has become in America. Barbara Ehrenreich opens up this writing in one s opinion, with a
very powerful opinion, which is stated as a thesis as Marlys Mayfield writes, The most shocking thing

Barbara utilizes expert opinions quoting them as if to demonstrate how the government tries to justify
this as criminal behavior and how it is on the increase. In paragraph three, Marlys Mayfield writes
Barbara Ehrenreich quoting a Florida city attorney from St. Petersburg stating in June of 2009 of how
urban officials brag, If you re lying on a sidewalk, whether you re homeless or a millionaire, you re in
violation of the ordinance. (Mayfield, 2014, pg. 188). Barbara further elaborates with providing facts
from the National Law Center on Poverty and Homelessness as Marlys Mayfield writes, So concludes
a recent study from the National Law Center on Poverty and Homelessness, which finds that the
number of ordinances against the publicly poor has been rising since 2006, along with the harassment
of the poor for more neutral infractions like jaywalking, littering, or carrying an open container.
(Mayfield, 2014, pg. 189).
The facts that Barbara offers are both based on factual information as well as observations and
experiences that individuals have lived through. Barbara offers more statistics that include cities that
are taking various approaches to homeless such as, Colorado potentially eliminating the right to ask
for help and Arizona s attempt of a more than three day shutdown of individual s who seem not to
need assistance, but are trying to receive it (Mayfield,

model requiring communities to set aside, or allow, a certain portion of housing units for afford able
housing. Under this model localities can adopt local zoning that encourages rental development in
areas the municipality has determined are best suited. If a municipality continues to have exclusionary

Key message: Housing booms have different characteristics across countries and time periods. What is
common is that when the bust comes, it very often damages financial stability and the real economy.
The tools for containing housing booms are still being developed. The evidence on their effectiveness
is only just starting to accumulate. The interactions of various policy tools can be complex. But all this
should not be an excuse for inaction. The interlocking use of multiple tools might overcome the
shortcomings of any single policy tool. We

How Is Hope Shown In The Hollow Men
As the world was trying to find hope during a time of adversity, T.S. Eliot s poem, The Hollow Men,
presents the World War I soldiers as having an unprecedented loss of faith as well as emotional human
value. Primarily, Eliot illustrates the soldiers initial emotions after returning from war and creates an
environment that still sees hope in such negative circumstances. Most notably, the soldiers still seem
to have the strength to find signs of wishful thinking that still portrays the hope in their lives. The
soldiers are still leaning together and their dried voices are still able to whisper together (5 8). Here,
Eliot proves that the actions that the soldiers are still able to do, demonstrate the hope that is still
present. Had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most importantly, the soldiers start to imagine what life may be like if they were dead, as their life as
living humans must feel similar. The soldiers ask if it is like this in death s other kingdom, walking
alone all while they are trembling with tenderness, (47 50). Here, Eliot considers the soldiers as
steadily losing hope in ever finding their faith that they so desperately need. The allusion of what hell
must be like also crosses the soldiers minds, a sure sign that their thoughts are not where they should
be. Just as important, are the soldiers continued thoughts of losing hope and faith, in the midst of such
critical times for them. The soldiers feel sightless and unless the eyes reaper they will only have the
hope only of empty men, (66 69). At this moment, Eliot reiterates the soldiers feelings, and how they
are content with despair. The soldiers are unwilling to open their eyes and search for their own faith,
and are set on the fact that someone else has to return their faith to them. The soldiers even consider
themselves as empty men instead of hollow which can allude to the fact that they believe they will
never be able to fill their

what sets me apart from everybody else? Throughout these past years, I have managed to proudly

Court Reporting Restrictions
The principle of open justice is an essential part for creating public confidence in the judicial
administration process in the UK and has been for over a century. Thus, in Scott v Scott Lord Atkinson
provides that a public trial is the best security for the pure, impartial and efficient administration of
justice...and the best means for winning public confidence and respect . However, open justice is not
an absolute right, and there are circumstances where open court proceedings would defeat the object
of the case. Consequently, the family justice system has a range of court reporting restrictions which
have in effect restricted the open rule principle, but have prevented` people, in particular children,
from being exploited by the media in administrating justice in the family court. ... Show more content

under the anonymity provisions of the Children Act 1989 and the contempt at court provisions in
section 12 of the Administration of Justice Act 1960 along with other court reporting restrictions in the
family courts, are problematic for family proceedings when compared to being protective.
Furthermore, this essay will then analyse how the protective scope of court reporting restrictions in the
family court system has been reduced as a result of the continued problems that court reporting
restrictions cause, but in a need to make the court more transparent has made the court reporting

Management Plan For The Music Festival
Project management has always been an important branch of management. It involves gathering
different resources with using a scientific approach of management to build all types of projects,
starting from infrastructure facilities and buildings, to IT projects, or even to prepare and manage
special events. As far as special events are concerned, Music Festivals usually require precise planning
and organising for many reasons. The huge number of guests associated with such events, and the
different types of resources needed to complete the project are all crucial elements, and will make
planning for the Music Festival such a challenging task for the project manager, especially if it lasts
for few days. The lack of accommodation, the hilly nature of the ground, and unexpected changes in
weather are all problems facing the project manager that need to be addressed appropriately. This
essay will discuss the resourcing plan, risk management plan, and leadership and management plan for
the Music Festival. it will also discuss the reasons behind choosing the predictive approach among
other available options in implementing project life cycles.
The Music Festival is going to be held in the countryside of Victoria during the Australia Day
weekend in 2016. The expected number of guests are between 8000 12000 guests and might change
without prior notice. The local accommodation is limited, which means many extra units or little tents

Epistemological Position And A Qualitative Research Design
The approach of this study will take the epistemological position and a qualitative research design.
Humphries (2008) asserts that qualitative research focusses on the subjective and recognises that the
researcher will affect the data that is produced and therefore the outcome of the research. Denzin
Lincoln (2005:3) state that Qualitative researchers study things in their natural settings attempting to
make sense of, or to interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them .
Quantitative research on the other hand, claims to be objective, removing the researcher s views and
values from the study. While traditionally quantitative data has been deemed to produce more reliable
or valid data, it does not suffice to capture the complexities of the human experience as it assumes a
positivist epistemology.
This research has taken a narrative methodolgy as this approach recognises that realities are socially
constructed, and that human actions and agency are contingent on socio cultural, political and
historical influences (Gill and Goodson, 2011). Using in depth semi structured interviews will ensure
that trans people have the best opportunity to express their story and impart the information that they
feel is important to them. A structured interview approach would endanger the research in that the
questions would have to be chosen prior to data collection and therefore could reflect assumptions the
researcher had made and as the information shared is

Willy Loman Vs Death Of A Salesman
Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, takes place during the 1950s. As my mother says about
my her mother, it was the time when many families, including my grandmother, wanted to keep up
with the Joneses. They wanted new everything, from a new house and vehicle to whatever the next
door neighbor had. However, new and nice things did not come easy for some people as easy as it did
for others, such as my grandmother. Willy Loman likes to stay in a fantasy world rather than the real
world, eventually leading to his lack of self awareness. He is always thinking about the past then
coming back to the present time. Willy, a man who is surrounded by doubts and failures, as well as,
exaggerates on his stories and has frequent contradictions, is unable to keep up with the current
fantasy or truth.
Willy says the key to being successful in life is to be well liked and not just liked (Kirszner Mandell,
2012). He does not feel that he is a successful salesman as he likes to joke and talk too much,
including criticizing his own physique. Linda, Willy s wife, disagrees with Willy, as she has heard of
many of Willy s success and the money he made while he was gone. She realizes Willy s lies but loves
him anyway. Willy, on the other hand, needs more than just love. However, another salesman, Charley,
whom Willy is jealous over, is successful as he is a man of few words and gains the respect of his
customers. Willy also likes to follow Dave Singleman s path (Kirszner

The Recipe for Nature
The Recipe for Nature
Missing Works Cited
Nature is a fluid coalescence of complex magnificence resulting from an algorithmic mastery of
simplicity. It is no doubt an awe inspiring entity that invokes both great curiosity and bafflement in
those who attempt to account for its existence and splendor. It is often seen as overly reductionistic, if
not ¡§dangerous¡¨, to try to condense the (mindless?) brilliance of nature through any sort of
mechanistic or logical means. And here we are faced with what Daniel Dennett calls Darwin¡¦s
dangerous idea: ¡§that all the fruits of evolution can be explained as the products of an algorithmic
process¡¨ (Dennett, 1995 p.60). It is no surprise that this idea might present a problem for the Homo
sapien ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, chance and randomness might disallow for the concept of ¡§survival of the fittest¡¨ and
instead allow for otherwise less adept members of the species to have increased reproducibility and
thus an increased genetic impact on subsequent generations. The fact that events can alter or in part
determine which members of a species are more likely to survive and reproduce, leads to the fact that
the specific outcome (e.g., which particular genes will be passed onto the next generation) of an
algorithmic process is not fixed, just that the inherent nature of the causal procedure is. For instance,
the algorithmic process of natural selection does not provide a certain mold by which to predict the
most viable members of a species, only that it is guaranteed that the most well adapted members of a
species will necessarily correspond to the most viable.
We now return to the question of how the complexity and intricacy of nature can be accounted for by
an algorithmic process constituted by an inundation of simple steps. William Paley¡¦s well known
watchmaker analogy is particularly useful here, in that it illustrates the problem of complexity of
design (i.e., of a watch) independent of a purposeful designer (i.e., a watchmaker). If a watch
represents a complexity in design that could not have possible arisen out of purposeless chance or
randomness alone, it must therefore have required a significant amount of ¡§design work¡¨ (i.e., work
done) (Dennett,

Pros And Cons Of Cross-Platform App Development
Native or the web is the hot topic of argument between confounded decisions makers and developers.
Considering the pros and cons of evolving technologies and analyzing its substantial effect over
business performance spawns countless arguments. With the entry of cross platform app development,
a new player has entered this longstanding debate.
What are Cross Platform Apps?
The apps compatible with individual operating systems are native apps. Whereas, mobile apps
compatible with different operating systems like android, iOS, Windows and Blackberry OS are called
as Cross Platform Apps. Also called as hybrid apps, they are developed using native widgets or Web
Views displaying HTML content without the address bar along with normal controls for web browsing

Entrepreneurs after opting for hybrid mobile development are rewarded with a prime benefit of
building once and getting the app deployed on multiple platforms. Nevertheless, cross platform apps
come with few drawbacks, they do not take high graphics with additional fluidity and they consume a
substantial amount of memory.
Startups are using cross platform mobile app development as a tool to penetrate the market and then
replacing it with the native apps. Even you can do so.
When it comes to mobile app development, then it is very much hard for a novice entrepreneur to
figure out whether to go with native or with the cross platform app development. The motive behind
writing this blog is to break down the pros and cons of both, cross platform as well as native apps so
you can take an informed decision.

Penalty Killing In Youth Hockey
How coaches undertake penalty killing in youth hockey varies upon the age, skill level, and number of
players on a team. I outlined the basic concepts in Chapter 11 but felt coaches of older teams or teams
with more advanced personnel would require a more in depth discussion. In particular, if you wish to
use all the skaters on a team with three forward lines and six defensemen the roster regularly seen in
minor hockey you will use combinations entirely different from a team with four forward lines. This
appendix shows the thought process to follow and a chart you can easily copy to set your rotations if
you have three lines. Use this information in conjunction with the text in Chapter 11. The intent is not
to change the basic principles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is possible to set up a full rotation using five defensemen, but I believe defensemen play stronger
when with their normal partner. This means I will ignore the player who is the partner of the man in
the box and play one of the defensive pairs twice during the penalty. As an example, if we label the
defense pairs as A, B and C, and assuming a defenseman from A takes a penalty, I would play B, then
C and come back with B. At thirty five seconds for each shift, one minute and forty five seconds will
have expired in the penalty. On the fourth rotation, I would follow the suggestion in the earlier bullet
point and pair the defenseman from A with a forward, awaiting the other A defenseman when the

Ethical Dilemmas In The Volkswagen Company
The German automobile manufacturer, Volkswagen, knowingly jeopardized their company to cheat
emission tests, result producing a cleaner type of diesel. The actions leading to the unethical decisions
by German automaker was not the fault of an individual, but rather problems throughout the entire
corporation. For a greater understanding of the event that took place within Volkswagen it is best to
examine the different divisions of the organization and the individuals decision, which was the leading
cause in one of the biggest consumer class action settlements in the United States (Judge approves

what measures can be implemented to prevent future unethical scandals.
The Volkswagen Company made numerous unethical decisions resulting in one of the worst corporate
scandal in modern times (Where were the lawyers, 2015). Who was involved in the scandal? What
were those unethical decisions, and what are the results of immoral decision? To properly examine the
scandal it is best to critically analyze the situation based on legal factors. If anyone, then, knows the
good they ought to do and doesn t do it, it is sin for them (James 4:17, New International Version). An

manipulation of results in pollution tests. Despite knowing this was unethical, Volkswagen knowingly

Organic Farming vs Factory Farming Essays
Many consumers and farmers have discovered that living in an industrialized culture where the focus
has become faster, bigger, and cheaper is not the best way to produce our food. Obsessed with
productivity, the agriculture industry is reaping the negative consequences of creating an unsustainable
environment for food production. Time and time again, the media captures stories regarding deadly
bacterial contamination and dangerous pesticide contamination causing illness and death in our
communities. The environment is also damaged and contaminated. This devastating trend, due to
irresponsible farming practices as a result of the industrialization of the food industry, has become all
too common. Returning to organic farming, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the soil becomes more and more polluted with these toxins, it becomes unsustainable. Therefore,
land that would have remained fertile for centuries through the commonsense farming of our
ancestors, is being ruined by farming controlled by big corporations whose sole interest is in
immediate short term profit (Goodall 38). Industrialized livestock farming with thousands of animals
crammed into small factory spaces is responsible for numerous bacterial and viral infections such as
E.coli., Avian bird flu, Mad cow disease, Salmonella, and many more. Therefore, conventional
farmers use antibiotics to keep these animals alive. This over use of antibiotics is causing the creation
of new, resistant strains of deadly diseases that kill people and animals. Disease is actually caused by
the bad practices, shortcuts, and antibiotic resistance. This has the opposite effect of what was
intended and also costs farmers millions of dollars every year instead of saving money. Unfortunately,
conventional agriculture experts recommend these monocultural farming practices in the name of
quick, mass production. Current conventional farming practices are also responsible for many
pollution problems that would not exist otherwise. The land where we live and grow our food, the
water we drink, and the air we breathe are all being contaminated. The large amounts of synthetic
pesticides and fertilizers used on our crops are poisoning the soil, air, and water. Toxic heavy metals

but that still did not give me a complete understanding not at least until I used video resources as well.
By looking at instructional videos provided on YouTube and other sites gave me a more visual
understanding which I can say it has helped quite well. A Challenge the writing process has been for
me, I would write ideas I had during my pre writing and that was all, but I did not build on my idea. I
went from an idea to a draft and that was not the proper way to go about with my writing process.
With innumerable Resources available it has helped me in my writing more than I thought it would
because if I needed an example of what to do, I had text and video resources for that, video resources
helped me to understand even more how to write correctly on my essays, writing tools and many more
great resources. Using time management for my writing was very useful as well my research, pre
writing and drafting stage should have took up most of the time, therefore after editing and revision
then would be a breeze. Everyone has their own way of writing and not everyone

more competence as an explanation due to evidence now being needed to prove someone guilty, there
was still a aspect of psychological pressure towards obeying God and putting themselves forward for
punishment in order to live a better afterlife.
The religious theory surrounding witchcraft is centred on Reformation, which brought a challenge to
Catholicism from Luther. By the 1550 s there were religious wars in Germany. Calvin went on further
to attack Catholics and Calvinism spread throughout Europe as a result. At the end of the sixteenth
century, Europe had been divided between Catholics and Protestants where England, Germany and the
Netherlands were mostly protestant. Whereas, Spain, Italy and most of France were Catholic. Initially

Including the fact that religious change produced, conflict and even war especially in Germany and
France which were also centres of witchcraft, suggesting the appearance of a link. Second, the period
tends to coincide with the peak of witch hunt when the bible was widely circulated in the vernacular.
Protestant priests preached things such as Thou shall not suffer a witch to live . They were keen to root
out magic in all its forms because they associated it with catholic practices and superstition. There was
confessional conflict as Hugh Roper sees witchcraft as being motivated by catholic and protestant
desire to show godliness in a time of religious schism. The witch hunt cultivated feelings of moral
superiority plus helped to remove or reduce feelings of guilt because of religious changes. This again
can be a form of psychological projection, which is a type of defence mechanism. This involves
individuals attributing their own unacceptable thoughts and motives to another person. Therefore,
people scapegoated others if they had done something wrong to get rid of their own guilty conscience
by making themselves believe the accused individual was in the

To Use, or Not to Use E-books. That Is the Question.
Thanks to new technology that is being invented every day, life has become increasingly simple and
concise. There are gadgets that introduced almost daily which are meant to replace outdated and old
ways of living. The invention of e books was one such creation that was made to make the lives of
readers easier and simpler. However, are traditional paper books truly better than e books? If so, or if
not, why? It is time to settle the score. E books hit the shelves and were (and still are) huge. Visiting a
bookstore or waiting for a book to arrive at the house, for many people, takes much too long. Life,
today, is all about doing precise work in a short amount of time, and e books are a way to help
consumers do just that. As commented on by Mohsin Hamid of the New York Times, The advantages
of e books are clear ... I can read an intriguing review of a book...and with the click of a button be
reading that book in an instant (Hamid). Hamid also later commented on the convenience of many
features that e books possess, it is possible to vary the size of the font...e books can be read in the
dark, self illuminated (Hamid). An e reader can also hold at least a thousand or more books without
any extra weight, making e readers very useful for traveling. They are light, do not take up to much
space, and you can hold a wide variety of books on your person at any given time. These features,
which paper books do not possess, are enticing features which appeal to a wide spectrum of

Pathos In Bowling For Columbine
Bowling for Columbine is a documentary directed by American filmmaker and activist, Michael
Moore. The political documentary focuses on the 1999 school shootings that occurred in Columbine,
Colorado, and Flint, Michigan and the correlation of guns to the high homicide rates in America.
Moore argues that the number one problem the United States faces is gun control. Moore effectively
uses ethos, pathos, and logos appeals to present an unbiased and informational view of the issue of
gun violence in America. He also uses the fallacious argumentative strategy, ad hominem. Moore does
not put his own direct bias into the film, he instead shows both sides of the argument to allow the
viewer to decide for themselves which side they are on.
In the film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His argument is stronger if the audience has an emotional connection to the events involving gun
violence. Along with statistics and facts, Moore shows sounds and images that elicits sympathy in an
attempt to persuade them to his cause. The most effective example of this is when he shows camera
footage from the Columbine Shooting with the 911 call from the scene in the background. He also
shows testimony from concerned citizens from several shooting incidents, such as the Buell
Elementary School where a first grader killed another with a gun. The graphic images shown are heart
wrenching and evokes empathy from the viewers.
To contrast his emotional appeals, Moore uses logos strategically in this film. Throughout the entire
documentary, Moore travels around and interviews people about their opinions on guns. He also asks
if they believe that everyone should have access to guns and why America is one the most dangerous
countries in the world when it comes to gun violence. The whole film consists of Moore s dialogue
with common Americans, which allows the viewers to hear what other people think, not just

Gambling In Hockey Essay
The first article I found is about gambling and how problem gambling relates to other health issues.
The first thing that the article lay out the two ways of classifying problem gambling. non mutually
exclusive conceptuali¬zations of pathological gambling classify the disorder as an impulse control
disorder lying along an obsessive compulsive spectrum or like an addiction to a drug (Potenza, 2002).
The article goes in depth on several different types of disorders and the prevalence of gambling
amongst people with these disorders. The first disorders that they look at in the article are substance
abuse disorders and they found that was up to ten times as prevalent in people with substance use

debate as to whether hockey fights are the cause of these brain injuries. the reason the article discuss
this issues is that the hockey leagues believe that fighting is one of the key reasons fan come to the
games. the study looks at the amount of fighting by each team as well as those teams win percentages.
They found that fighting dose not influence how many games are won. Due to this fact, they could
isolate the variables to see if fighting truly influenced attendance. The end results of the study found
that the role of fighting on hockey attendance may have been the key variable (Rodney, 2013). The
end results showed that there were other factors such as promotions which effected attendance more
than the amount of fighting in the season. This relates to our chapter and the section on violence in
sports. Hockey is known for being a violent sport with lots of reactive aggression leading to fights on

Classification and Assessment of Aridity over Pakistan...
3. Results and Discussion
The aridity maps was prepared by using De Martonne s Aridity Index, Thornthwaite s Precipitation
Effectiveness Index, Thornthwaite s Moisture Index, UNESCO Aridity Index and Erinc Aridity Index.
These indices showed that most of the southern parts of the country lie between arid to hyper arid
where as northern parts lie between semi arid to very humid zone (Fig 3). Analysis shows the climate
of northern parts is more variable as compare to southern parts. The reason in the variability of the
climate in the northern parts is that this region received rainfall in summer due to monsoon systems
(July to September) and in winter due to western disturbances (December to March). Southern parts of
the country receive most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is quite unfortunate for our agriculture that evaporative demand and water requirement for crops
in whole southern parts of the country is very high as compare to northern parts and it is very difficult
to carry out the agricultural activity in these regions.
Climate variability and change profoundly influence social and natural environments throughout the
world, with consequent impacts on natural resources and industry that could be large and far reaching.
Climate change due to global warming not only started to impact the weather pattern but also
influence the agriculture sector in Pakistan. Pakistan is an agriculture whose majority of the
population depends upon agriculture. Glaciers are the big fresh water sources for Pakistan which
fulfills the water demands in the agriculture land while rainfall fulfills the water requirement of the
barani areas. An increase in temperature was observed in the country especially during the last few
decades which accelerate snow melting on glaciers. The increased rate of glacial melting in Himalayas
has caused vast lakes to develop, and if these lacks outburst, these can inundate towns and villages
below. There is high level of confidence that recent regional changes (rising tendency) in temperature
have discernable impacts on precipitation, evaporation, stream flow, runoff and other elements of
hydrological cycles (Elshamy et al., 2006).

How Is Hester Prynne Cruel
In the classic novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, protagonist Hester Prynne gives birth
to an illegitimate daughter and is forced to wear the letter A on her breast stitched in scarlet and gold
as punishment. She keeps the father, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, a secret even after questioning.
This leaves him burdened by the guilt he feels for not serving the same punishment as her. Meanwhile
Roger Chillingworth, her husband, enters town as the new physician and looks for revenge.
Hawthorne s work repeatedly portraits Hester as a victim of overly harsh punishment and unfair
expectations, in this case based on sexuality, made at the hands of a patriarchal society. Hester Prynne
is a victim of unduly extreme discipline for her act of adultery. She is sentenced to a lifetime of
wearing a beautifully stitched letter A on whatever she wore and three hours of standing on the town s
scaffold to be publicly shamed. Statements like they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester
Prynne s forehead (Hawthorne 60) were uttered of her as she served her punishment. If the lifetime of
humiliation wasn t enough, her child was almost taken from her too. A meeting between Governor
Bellingham, Reverend Wilson, Reverend Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth was held to discuss
the caretaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Puritan society they are living in is patriarchal. This is clear when observing who the leaders of
the town are; each figure is a male. When Chillingworth is receiving a report on why Hester is
standing up on the scaffold, the townsman can tell he is from out of town or he has not heard of
Mistress Hester Prynne, and her evil doings. (71) To this society, Hester s actions are seen as wicked
and immoral. Hawthorne wrote this piece in the midst of an uprising feminist movement in the 1800s
and was bringing to light victimization that stems from the long standing social views on women s

  • 2. The Winter We ve got to get those crops in soon honey. The rains are coming and so is the cold. Yes I know dear. I m not even sure we will have enough for the winter. Oh Morgan, I m worried. If we just conserve what supplies the good Lord has helped us gather for the coming seasons. I ll try to hunt for more meat; I ll trap some more furs to sell at the markets before the bite of winter truly sets in. We ll be fine honey. Oh I hope so Morgan. I Really do. It was a simple home that Morgan had constructed himself when they settled here two years ago. He had sawn and shaped the timber poles with some help from the neighbors well, hardly neighbors since the closest one was about three miles away across rough terrain. However, it served. He had even installed real glass panels in the window frames. They cost a pretty penny, and yet absolutely essential in this harsh and extreme climate up here in the mountains. Flat land was not common at such an altitude. The soil was rich from ancient volcanic activity in the area. Crops grew well, usually despite the terrain. This year had been a harsher one however than from what the locals had said; for ten years or thereabouts . It was that same period of time in which several families, starved to death in their mountain huts because of crop failures. Bodies had lain undiscovered until the next spring, looking like frozen meat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Admitted students with high need and lower probability of four year completion, were de incentivized from matriculation by way of inadequate funding to support their enrollment. Students most impacted by these changes in policy and practice were disproportionately from underrepresented backgrounds and under resourced secondary schools, creating conflict between admissions practices that focused on crafting a diverse freshmen class and greater institutional emphasis on four year completion. Though I remained closely connected to the Office of Admissions during my time in CNS, I observed, as in outsider, significant staffing changes, compromised staff morale, and increased skepticism the institution held for admissions and recruitment staff. In addition, recruitment efforts were often berated publicly as the cause for matriculation declines by ethnicity, major, or caliber. More than 15 admissions officers, the majority from the recruitment division, resigned due to dissatisfaction and/or lack of confidence in changes in leadership and direction of the institution many of these positions were not replaced. Essay on Effect of violence seen on Television The Effects of Violence Seen on Television One Saturday morning when I was five years old, I was watching an episode of the Roadrunner on television. As Wile Coyote was pushed off a cliff by the roadrunner for the fourth or fifth time, I started laughing uncontrollably. I then watched a Bugs Bunny show and started laughing whenever I saw Elmer Fudd shoot Daffy Duck and his bill went twirling around his head. The next day, I pushed my brother off a cliff and shot my dog to see ifs its head would twirl around. Obviously, the last sentence is not true. The researchers noticed real differences between the children who watched violent shows and those who watched non violent shows. Children who watched the violent shows were more likely to argue, disobey, strike playmates, and become impatient ( ). Children s minds are like sponges; they take in everything around them, and unless they are told something is not ok, they will believe that it is ok to do the example presented to them. From personal observation of working around children for about twenty hours per week, children do imitate the violent acts they see on television. Physical Violence is more notable in boys than girls, whereas girls are more violent verbally than physically. I note two different instances when entertaining a group of kids in a birthday party. At a birthday party of nine year old boys, they tend to become bored and distracted very easily. I turned my back for only a few minutes when a boy began imitating wrestling moves he had seen on a wrestling television show. I am sure the show he saw was for entertainment purposes only and was never meant to be reenacted; however, he was under the impression that the wrestling moves were ok to try on his friends. If a municipality continues to have exclusionary zoning, then the requirement would be enforced by developers who can override local zoning barriers, with appeals to a state run zoning board. Eliot s poem, The Hollow Men, presents the World War I soldiers as having an unprecedented loss of faith as well as emotional human value. Most notably, the soldiers still seem to have the strength to find signs of wishful thinking that still portrays the hope in their lives. Humphries (2008) asserts that qualitative research focusses on the subjective and recognises that the researcher will affect the data that is produced and therefore the outcome of the research. Denzin Lincoln (2005:3) state that Qualitative researchers study things in their natural settings attempting to make sense of, or to interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them . Quantitative research on the other hand, claims to be objective, removing the researcher s views and values from the study. While traditionally quantitative data has been deemed to produce more reliable or valid data, it does not suffice to capture the complexities of the human experience as it assumes a positivist epistemology. This research has taken a narrative methodolgy as this approach recognises that realities are socially constructed, and that human actions and agency are contingent on socio cultural, political and historical influences (Gill and Goodson, 2011). Using in depth semi structured interviews will ensure that trans people have the best opportunity to express their story and impart the information that they feel is important to them. • 17. The Recipe for Nature The Recipe for Nature Missing Works Cited Nature is a fluid coalescence of complex magnificence resulting from an algorithmic mastery of simplicity. It is no doubt an awe inspiring entity that invokes both great curiosity and bafflement in those who attempt to account for its existence and splendor. It is often seen as overly reductionistic, if not ¡§dangerous¡¨, to try to condense the (mindless?) brilliance of nature through any sort of mechanistic or logical means. And here we are faced with what Daniel Dennett calls Darwin¡¦s dangerous idea: ¡§that all the fruits of evolution can be explained as the products of an algorithmic process¡¨ (Dennett, 1995 p.60). It is no surprise that this idea might present a problem for the Homo sapien ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, chance and randomness might disallow for the concept of ¡§survival of the fittest¡¨ and instead allow for otherwise less adept members of the species to have increased reproducibility and thus an increased genetic impact on subsequent generations. The fact that events can alter or in part determine which members of a species are more likely to survive and reproduce, leads to the fact that the specific outcome (e.g., which particular genes will be passed onto the next generation) of an algorithmic process is not fixed, just that the inherent nature of the causal procedure is. For instance, the algorithmic process of natural selection does not provide a certain mold by which to predict the most viable members of a species, only that it is guaranteed that the most well adapted members of a species will necessarily correspond to the most viable. We now return to the question of how the complexity and intricacy of nature can be accounted for by an algorithmic process constituted by an inundation of simple steps. William Paley¡¦s well known watchmaker analogy is particularly useful here, in that it illustrates the problem of complexity of design (i.e., of a watch) independent of a purposeful designer (i.e., a watchmaker). If a watch represents a complexity in design that could not have possible arisen out of purposeless chance or randomness alone, it must therefore have required a significant amount of ¡§design work¡¨ (i.e., work done) (Dennett, ... The first thing that the article lay out the two ways of classifying problem gambling. non mutually exclusive conceptuali¬zations of pathological gambling classify the disorder as an impulse control disorder lying along an obsessive compulsive spectrum or like an addiction to a drug (Potenza, 2002). The article goes in depth on several different types of disorders and the prevalence of gambling amongst people with these disorders. They found that fighting dose not influence how many games are won. Due to this fact, they could isolate the variables to see if fighting truly influenced attendance. The end results of the study found that the role of fighting on hockey attendance may have been the key variable (Rodney, 2013). • 30. Classification and Assessment of Aridity over Pakistan... 3. Results and Discussion The aridity maps was prepared by using De Martonne s Aridity Index, Thornthwaite s Precipitation Effectiveness Index, Thornthwaite s Moisture Index, UNESCO Aridity Index and Erinc Aridity Index. These indices showed that most of the southern parts of the country lie between arid to hyper arid where as northern parts lie between semi arid to very humid zone (Fig 3). Analysis shows the climate of northern parts is more variable as compare to southern parts. The reason in the variability of the climate in the northern parts is that this region received rainfall in summer due to monsoon systems (July to September) and in winter due to western disturbances (December to March). Southern parts of the country receive most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is quite unfortunate for our agriculture that evaporative demand and water requirement for crops in whole southern parts of the country is very high as compare to northern parts and it is very difficult to carry out the agricultural activity in these regions. Climate variability and change profoundly influence social and natural environments throughout the world, with consequent impacts on natural resources and industry that could be large and far reaching. Climate change due to global warming not only started to impact the weather pattern but also influence the agriculture sector in Pakistan. Pakistan is an agriculture whose majority of the population depends upon agriculture. Glaciers are the big fresh water sources for Pakistan which fulfills the water demands in the agriculture land while rainfall fulfills the water requirement of the barani areas. An increase in temperature was observed in the country especially during the last few decades which accelerate snow melting on glaciers. The increased rate of glacial melting in Himalayas has caused vast lakes to develop, and if these lacks outburst, these can inundate towns and villages below. There is high level of confidence that recent regional changes (rising tendency) in temperature have discernable impacts on precipitation, evaporation, stream flow, runoff and other elements of hydrological cycles (Elshamy et al., 2006). ... • 31. How Is Hester Prynne Cruel In the classic novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, protagonist Hester Prynne gives birth to an illegitimate daughter and is forced to wear the letter A on her breast stitched in scarlet and gold as punishment. She keeps the father, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, a secret even after questioning. This leaves him burdened by the guilt he feels for not serving the same punishment as her. Meanwhile Roger Chillingworth, her husband, enters town as the new physician and looks for revenge. Hawthorne s work repeatedly portraits Hester as a victim of overly harsh punishment and unfair expectations, in this case based on sexuality, made at the hands of a patriarchal society. Hester Prynne is a victim of unduly extreme discipline for her act of adultery. She is sentenced to a lifetime of wearing a beautifully stitched letter A on whatever she wore and three hours of standing on the town s scaffold to be publicly shamed. Statements like they should have put the brand of a hot iron on Hester Prynne s forehead (Hawthorne 60) were uttered of her as she served her punishment. If the lifetime of humiliation wasn t enough, her child was almost taken from her too. A meeting between Governor Bellingham, Reverend Wilson, Reverend Dimmesdale, and Roger Chillingworth was held to discuss the caretaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
