Diversity In American Schools
In chapter six the topic was about school and society. What I have gathered from this chapter is that a
lot of schools and teachers aren t incorporating and taking into consideration the culture and language
of the students that attend the schools. The issue of diversity was major problem in schools and still
happens today. The idea that minority students aren t receiving the best education they can because
teachers aren t trained to fit their needs is kind of sad and unfair to those students. Students who come
from Mexican families have a hard time communicating their teachers, because their teachers don t
know how to speak to them nor understand them. In chapter nine the idea of the federal government
being involved in schools instead of

The Three Major Correctional Reformers
Of the three major correctional reformers, I believe that Cesare Beccaria accomplished the most for
corrections. Cesare Beccaria emphasized that the use of punishment for crimes was used solely for the
purpose of protecting society and preventing crime. This is extremely important, because in the past,
individuals were using punishment as a means of revenge, but Cesare changed this idea. Cesare s
ideas eventually led to creation of classical criminology, and this alone helped to pave the road to
ending unjustifiable punishments and inhumane treatment.
Classical criminology contained six principles, and all of these principles emphasized the importance
of using punishment to promote deterrence and prevention. Within these principles Cesare explains
that prevention is more important than anything. This idea led to major reforms, including getting
secret accusations and torturing of individuals abolished. That was not all, however, Cesare saw that
the accused were not being given the benefit of the doubt, hence the torturing of individuals to get
confessions that may or may not be true. He decided that the accused should have the right to a speedy
trial, also humane treatment before the trial, and finally, the right to bring forward any evidence they
may have on their behalf. This ultimately gave the accused a voice that they never had. Today, we see
the idea of a speedy trial within our Constitution, along with other laws promoting fairness for those
who have been accused.

Spleen
A number of anomalies have been found in the cat through out the dissection sessions. The anomalies
were an enlarged spleen, enlarged thymus and enlarged lymph nodes.
3.1 The Spleen
The spleen is an organ of the immune system (lymphatic system). It function is filter the blood and
maintain it in a healthy way. The spleen produces two types of pulp to perform its function, the red
and the white pulp (Goodenough McGuire, 2014). The red pulp filters the damaged blood cells,
palates and foreign materials in the blood, so it recycles the blood. On other hand, the white pulp is
composed from lymphocytes, macrophages and plasma cells that help clean the blood. These two
pulps work interchangeably to make sure the blood is filtered completely from any foreign materials
and dead cells.
Splenomegaly, which is the enlargement of the spleen, could happen due to four main causes, which
were cancer, infection, liver or blood diseases (Kuntz, 2006). An enlarged spleen causes
hypersplenism; it is a process where the spleen increases the filtration process of the blood cells. This
causes the spleen to recycle more blood and consider it to be a foreign material. Consequently, more

After witnessing the enlarged spleen, thymus gland and lymph nodes, it was evident the cat had
undergone some dilemmas with its lymphatic and immue system. With the first discovery, which was
the spleen, the following discussion was presented: the chances that the cause of splenomegaly is a
liver or blood diseases are low, because of the normal appearance of cat s liver and the blood of the cat
was drained. The chances are higher with the other causes, which are more related to the lymphatic
system. There might have been an infection, lymphoma or inflammation of the nodes in the

The Effects Of Torture On The Society Of Modern Technology
When one thinks of torture, what is imagined? Perhaps they think of those wooden machines in the
museums that they cannot even comprehend the use for, or the iron maiden, a cinematic favorite.
Perhaps they don t think of anything specific like that at all, for it isn t a question often presented.
Torture, regardless, is a gruesome term with gruesome connotations. In our progressive society of
modern technology, it is thankfully an issue of the past. Or... is it? It s not, we know it isn t. As a
society of the unaffected, we simply don t think about it. We are vaguely aware of the fact that torture
once occurred in prevalence at some point in time and happens somewhere today. It did happen, and it
still does. Torture is deliberate violence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
12:31 where prisoners had been sawn between planks and buried to their necks, or that of II
Maccabees 13:5 where Menelaus had been thrown into ashes to struggle and suffocate as he sank
deeper in the soft ash; a public display (Mannix, 23). Judicial torture is a punishment regardless of
what or why, as long as it classifies as torture. The words are occasionally interchangeable, as every
case of lawful torture is a punishment but not every punishment is necessarily torture. Historically,
judicial torture has been used for ages, albeit differing in how it is carried out today. Torture for the
purpose of criminal punishment first emerged in the twelfth century in Northern Italy when
prosecution done privately by popes and royalty on criminals became prevalent and under threat when
their political authority became more centralized. During the remaining years of the Middle Ages, the
process spread to much of Europe (Encyclopedia.com). In the late twelfth century, the inquisitional
procedure was introduced to papal legislation with the purpose of controlling those who strayed from
the church, and eventually, this eventually extended to secular (nonreligious) crime as well. Early
medieval law had more severe criminal cases dealt with by ordeal, oath, or judicial combat. The idea
of it was that God would intervene constantly in the lives of people, and would so also in court.
Though it was it was impractical to

The Rights Of Ruth Simpson And Gay Rights
Ruth Simpson (1926 2008) Run through plagiarism check Politics isn t just about who gets to conquer
countries, fight wars or make laws in government. It s also about the slow grind and struggle of those
who work behind the scenes to make things happen. Nobody exemplifies this more than Ruth
Simpson, a gay rights activist who toiled for decades to raise awareness of LGBTQ rights in the US.
In 1976, when Ruth wrote her pioneering book on lesbian identity, From the Closet to the Courts, gay
men and women could be fired from their jobs, targeted by police, or harassed on the street with full
impunity. The majority of US states even legally barred gay people from certain jobs, including those
in teaching, policing, law and medicine even dentistry. If anything is testament to the work that
LGBTQ activists like Ruth have done, it is that such measures seem ludicrous and unthinkable today.
But the world that Ruth operated in was a vastly different one. Born to two committed socialists
deeply involved in the labor movement, Ruth was exposed to activism at an early age. By the time she
was 12, her parents were taking her to picket lines, where she witnessed her father beaten up by a cop
right in front of her. The result, however, was that Ruth disavowed politics she had seen the heartbreak
and anxiety that her parents activism had brought about. Instead, she studied drama and English at
university and moved to New York to pursue a brief career on Broadway. But she found that she

The Korean War Between North And South Korea
The Korean War began on 25 June 1950 and ceased fire after the truce between North and South
Korea in 27 July 1953. Since the truce was the momentary cease fire, the war is actually on going
status between the North Korea and the South Korea. This war certainly became a tragic to both
Korean people and other people who were involved. A lot of people were dead, wounded, missing and
captured, and some other social and political issues were raised. Various conflicting interests were
prevalent in the international relations and no one had the same thoughts with others. For example,
United States participated to protect the democracy in the eastern Asia and to protect the American
soil from possible threats, the communism.
Even though America helped South Korea to protect its own sovereignty, there were previous chances
to bring peace beforehand. In January 1950, United States announced that South Korea and Taiwan
are no longer under the protection strategies. Afterwards, US army left Korea based on their
announcements. However, America would notice that there will be a certain incident if they leave
Korea. The fact that the American army left and South Korea is no longer under the strategical plan
made North Korea to persuade some communist countries to get some supports.
This proxy war happened in Korea brought a wave of death to many people regardless of their
nationalities. What made a lot of American people died in Korea would be questioned to answer
whether this war

Faculty Senate Review Meeting held 2014 09 09
The Faculty Senate meeting provided examples of several matrix elements, including agenda/direction
and partnership . In addition, the structure of the university collegium at BGSU is under consideration
for change. Discussions of each of these concepts will be preceded by an overview of the portion of
the meeting pertinent to it.
The first matrix element to be considered here is agenda/direction . Direction is defined in part as ...
either the philosophy of the organization or its policy. (Van Wart 2011). For purposes of this paper,
direction will simply be defined as what will the organization do? The chair began the meeting by

The environment, defined by Duncan (1972) as the totality of physical and social factors that are taken
directly into consideration in the decision making behavior of individuals in the organization has
changed for the Senate. Specifically, the collective bargaining agreement put in place has changed the
social structure of the relationship between the faculty and the administration. The previously
understood purview of the Senate has been altered by this significant environmental change.
The process undertaken to brainstorm the issue of Senate direction was an example of the senate
working to modify an element of the university collegium in place at BGSU. University collegium is
described by Downey (2006) in part as: the complex network of assumptions, traditions, protocols,
relations and structures which permit the professoriate to control the academic affairs of the institution
. Utilizing general principles of social constructionism, ideas were considered by the senators in an
informal peer to peer fashion to address the above questions. Working as a community of scholars
with a wide variety of specializations, the senators made an effort to collectively define a new role for
the Senate. Their ideas were collected and will be synthesized, with the intent of producing a sense of
the Senate document to be used to guide further activities. The outcome of this

I made out my grandmother s tall stooped form and gray bun. The rosebuds that circled the house
were in bloom read and lavender and white and pink and Gory, the dog, sat watching us with his
eternally depressed expression as we climbed out the car. The gardener, a small dark man, was
crouched on his hands and knees, tending to the flowers and my mother shouted to him, Hey there,
Joe! How s things? (Senna 102), Also, you can also figure out the difference of lifestyles between
Sandy and her mother when the maid comes to the door. Birdie describes, Edna came to greet us at the
door. She was my grandmother s housecleaner, a Caribbean woman with salt and pepper hair. She
smelled of lemon and wore chunky white nurse shoes and neatly pressed hair. She made everything

her home indicates that she is a part of the wealthy upper class. According to Judith Lorber, Because
white people are the superior group, white people do not have to do the dirty work , such as house
work; the most inferior group does it, usually poor women of color (Lorber 116). Lorber basically
sums the reason the assumption of why Sandy s mother has housecleaners. The difference of Sandy s
life style is mentioned when her mother comments on her appearance. Sandy s mother states, Sandy,

The Cost Of Gas Prices
Oil is one of the most valued products in the world which means oil can be very inelastic. It is
something that people need in order for them to keep their cars going and for many other reasons in
this world. When the cost of gas drops down, the usual consumer s response is positive, however, that
might not be the case for some producers in the market. The lower cost of gas means that people will
be able to save money which is exactly what any consumers would want in the market. Specific
consumers who benefit the most from cheap oil are working and middle class people who spend an
unbalanced amount of their money on gas to fill up their cars and to heat their homes. As a result of
cheap oil, the amount of money that people will save can now go to expenses like buying a new car,
purchasing new electronics, traveling elsewhere, or even as small as going out to a nice dinner (p.34).
All these results will cause a hotel boom, a restaurant boom, and labor shortages that will increase
wages (p.36). However, with the positive side of cheap gas comes the negative side as well. The effect
of cheap gas on producers is not the same as the effect that it has on consumers in the market. The
decrease in oil prices are pressuring gas producers responsible for the domestic energy boom. Also,
when prices of barrel drops significantly, the activity in the shale basins is not very profitable which
means drilling of oil has to come to a stop (p.35). This will cause an unemployment of people who

The First Path Of Formation Of The Kazakh Diaspora
Repression was blown to frightening enormous proportions. Repressions even reached the traditional
knowledge holders Kazakh shamans baksi , which J. Assmann calls special carriers of cultural
memory [13].
During this period, the trend of migration had been strengthened, and about a million ethnic Kazakhs
was forced to migrate from their historic homeland to neighboring countries. It was the first path of
formation of the Kazakh Diaspora, but there was also a second way: creation of state borders
separated part of the kazakh people and made it difficult to communicate with the main ethnic masses
[14], this process in science is called irredentism [15]. Thus, in the second half of the XIX century
after the establishment of the Russian Chinese border part of Kazakhs who had been wintering in the
former Qing Empire territory was in the allegiance of China. Subsequently, in 1916 after the
suppression of the anti colonial rebellion in 1932 1934. During dispossession, collectivisation and
famine some Kazakh tribes migrated from Kazakhstan to Xinjiang and took Chinese citizenship [16].
The main concentration of the Kazakh migrant fell on Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey,
Mongolia and China.
Due to the special historical and political circumstances, one nation was artificially split into two parts
repatriates and local , which naturally provoke the break of once united culture in two, conventionally
called oralman and local culture. Both of these

A Report On Healthsouth Used Bad Debt Reserves Essay
whatsoever. Moreover, the amount of the accounts written off in any given year did not correlate with
the allowance established for them. To the extent that these disclosures were reliable, these data
indicate that HealthSouth used bad debt reserves to manipulate earnings. This lack of correlation could
be an indirect indicator of the fourth warning sign of abusive earnings management: reserves that are
not correlated with balance sheet items.
Consider two related items related to uncollectible accounts, to further understand possible earnings
management. First, there were disproportionately large allowance for doubtful accounts balances at
the end of 1994 and 1995: nearly 40% of gross receivables. These existing balances could have been
drawn down without the need to record an accurate provision for doubtful accounts. Consequently, the
year end charge to bad expense, required to replenish the depleted contra asset account, could have
been less than normally expected if the unadjusted allowance balance jibed with economic reality. By
understating expenses in this manner, HealthSouth could have manufactured earnings beginning in the
mid 1990s. These data provide some evidence of the classic cookie jar reserve ploy (Reed et al, 2003).
The related issue is the amount of bad debt expense matched against revenues in 1999. As noted, that
unusually large charge to earnings was made at the time when it became publicly known that
HealthSouth could no longer hit its earnings target.

Study Two
Nashwa Sayed Hamed and Neveen Abdel Latif Abdel Raoof conducted a study that was published in
2015 called, Effect of high intensity interval training on diabetic obese women with polyneuropathy: a
randomized controlled clinical trial. As diabetes is one of the leading causes of polyneuropathy and is

The forty women were between forty five and fifty five years old and had type 2 diabetes with

exercise intervention all of the participants were instructed to complete a seven item pain scale test
called the Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic symptoms and signs Scale (LANSS), a lower extremity

The Similarities Of Jacob And Esau
When Jacob and Esau were born, they were extremely different despite being twins. Esau was robust

twin boys in her womb. The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment;
so they named him Esau. After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau s heel; so he
was named Jacob, (Genesis 25:19 34). Jacob was a trickster. He covered himself with the hide of a
lamb to mimic his brothers appearance and take his blessing as the first born. So Jacob went out and
got the young goats for his mother. Rebekah took them and prepared a delicious meal, just the way
Isaac liked it. Then she took Esau s favorite clothes,

Don’t Discriminate the Breed
How would you react if you became next to or close to a stray dog? Would you respond by running,
yelling, or even kicking or hitting the animal? Would you respond calmly, call animal control or even
walk away? Just because the dog is mean doesn t make it aggressive. Aggression is such a broad term
and it s not all bad. The four types I am going to address are protective aggression, territorial
aggression, fear motivated aggression, and pain induced aggression. Aggression that happens when a
mother protects a family member whether it is human or another animal is called protective
aggression. Dogs that want to protect/defend their home or area is territorial aggression. An example is
when you dog chases up and down the fence line. When a dog is scared it may protect itself for their
own safety. That is known as fear motivated aggression. This often occurs most then a dog is stuck or
cornered. Pain induced aggression is when a dog is in pain it can respond aggressively. When they do
that it is to try and help their selves but it may injury someone else. That is why when you are
approaching a wounded animal you do so with caution. A lot of people say aggression is random but it
s not. Aggression can be triggered many ways. It is also always response to something in the dog s
environment whether it is an action of a human or the appearance/attitude of another dog. Cesar

My Favorite Places On Earth Essay
One of my most favorite places on earth is Albany, Wyoming. In my mind it is one of the beautiful
places to be on earth. Albany is truly a beautiful place to be. It is beautiful seeing all the snow covered
mountains during the winter. If you ever get a chance to travel there I would highly recommend it. The
way the land changes so fast is truly a sight to see.
The first time I experienced Albany was in the winter of 2015. It was my first time out west during the
winter. It was very weird on our way out there. There wasn t any snow the entire way there but once
we got there I was truly amazed how much snow they had on the mountains and how one moment I
was seeing nothing but flat fields and the next I was heading up the mountain.
The drive to Wyoming was the worst part of the trip for me. Nebraska is the worst part of the trip.
There is nothing to see in Nebraska except flat endless fields. Every once and awhile you ll see some
wildlife or a tumbleweed roll across the road. Once I got to Wyoming the drive seemed to fly by
because there was a lot more to scenery to look at.
Once I got up the mountains there was hardly any wildlife because of how deep the snow is during the
winter. Even without the wildlife around the trees and landscape draws you in. The way the landscape
changes so fast is truly amazing. One moment I would be in dense forest and the next i would be on
top of a mountain without any trees around. The beauty of the way the landscape changes just draws
me in. I

Summary Of How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents
Julia Alvarez is a famous author from the Dominican Republic. She is most known for winning the
PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles book award in 1991 for her novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their
Accents (Barth). Alvarez s Dominican background and her immigration to the United States
influenced her writing, especially in the novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents.
Alvarez was born in New York in 1950 but lived the first ten years of her life in the Dominican
Republic. At the time, Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina, a ruthless tyrant, held a dictatorship over the
Dominican Republic (Barth). How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents takes place at the time of this
dictatorship. Alvarez s father was involved in a plot to overthrow Rafael Trujillo and moved his family
back to New York when it failed (Barth). This abrupt uprooting was a culture shock to Alvarez who
was used to the traditional Dominican culture (Shuman). In her novel How the Garcia Girls Lost Their
Accents, Alvarez describes the struggles that result when children are uprooted from their Dominican
culture.
How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents explores the complications four sisters face when trying to
immerse themselves in American culture. This includes religion, language barriers, fitting in at
American schools, physical appearance, and family dynamics. Alvarez writes about many of the same
struggles she faced during her own cultural transition.
In both Alvarez s and the Garcia sisters experience, learning the

Marketing is an important tool for any business. It is how a company makes their product known to
the public. Without marketing, the consumers will either not know that the product even exists or will
not know all the applications of the product; who makes it, what it is and what it is made from, when
came on the market, where it can be purchased, how it can help the consumer and why the consumer

Sociological Imagination By C Wright Mills
C Wright Mills is a respected sociologist who is well known for making Max Weber s ideologies
popular within the United States. Many of his published works and his ideas are still widely used
today by understanding society in its present form. He wrote The Sociological Imagination that was
published in 1959, and part of that work emphasized on the history and biography in a sociological
context. The term biography in a social context can be defined as: events that has happened
throughout one s life because of different situations that one was put in or faced with, causing one to
have certain opportunities of make certain choices in life. For an example, a component of a teacher s
biography is that they have decided to instruct a third grade math and science class rather than a fifth
grade math and science class. This opportunity and/or decision that this teacher made did not happen
randomly, for there were certain events leading up to the teacher s decision to instruct third grade math
and science. Those events are what C Wright Mills calls history. The term history is otherwise known
as social circumstances , which is defined as: a set of concepts that is created by a criteria or activities
associated with the social environment of a person. History can be classified as a macro level social
circumstance, meaning that it focuses on the large social groups, organizations and social systems.

The Longbow Played an Important Role in England s Battles...
The longbow did not originate in England. The longbow actually originated in Wales by the Welsh.
Even though the longbow did not originate in England, it still played many roles for the English in
battle such as the battles of Poitiers, Agincourt, and Crécy.
The longbow was made from a wooden stave (usually made of yew) that was around 6 feet long and
approximately 5/8 inches wide. It was made out of yew because the outer white sapling part of the
wood could withstand a lot of tension and the inner red hardwood could resist compression. The
wooden stave was cured and hardened for 4 years, for the best quality. This process of curing and
hardening also helped protect the bow from harsh weather. The draw length for the longbow was

Intellectual Property And Social Property Theft
Stealing is stealing whether you use a computer command or a crowbar, and whether you take

needs. It s much like a symbiotic relationship but between many different people. It works like this:
Crackers have skills that release groups want and release groups have 0 day releases that topsites and
dumpsites want, (Honick, 2). There are many terms and names for different things and groups of
people, but what it comes down to is different people who specialize in different aspects of the
software piracy scene who give and take to and from each other. In an interview with an unnamed
hacker, the author of the book asks what he thinks of piracy. The hacker gives his thoughts on why
some piracy is okay. Piracy can be good for software, he says. He goes on to explain how software
piracy creates competition, and how consumers control prices and consumers decide who gets rich,

Julius Caesar Fate Vs Free Will
Free will is the ability to act in one s own decision. Free will is more common than fate because
people make their own decisions. It is free will to live your life how you want to but fate only pops up
once in a while. Free will is the strongest force in the world.
A person has many common free wills in a day. If they decide to go to Starbucks and get a coffee, that
s free will because they are not being forced, but fate would be if there was a pre made cup of coffee
made on her window sill. Working out is never forced and people never happen to walk into a gym.

One of the first free will that had a major impact was when the conspiracy decided that they were
going to kill Caesar (2, 1, 6). Calpurnia is Caesars wife; she has a dream that her husband will die
soon and she is very worried that he will go to the capital the next day and be killed. When she tells
this story to Caesar he believes it is non sense until she persuades him to stay. But then Decius comes
and says that that was not what the dream meant and that he should go. The only one that can make
this decision is Caesar himself with his own free will. And so he decides to go to the capitol. (2, 2, 1 to
2, 2, 5) this leads to the death and his good friend Mark Antony is secretly mad about this and when
Brutus who would have been named leader allows him to speak to the people about his death he uses
his free will to turn the people against the conspirators and sends the people into battle with him.(3,2,1
to 3,2,12)
Once the battle of plebeians or the people of Rome and conspirators is coming to an end Brutus uses
his final free will to take his own life.
In conclusion, Free will is stronger than fate because most of the actions that happen in this world are
not just coincidences or meant to happen it s mainly the action of one making a decision. Yes fate does
sometimes happen but likely they are caused by freewill or will become

Taking part in movies that portray love scenes or god forbid, kissing, is horrifying and according to
the extremists in Islam, the women who indulge in these acts are no better than trash. It is true that
religious zealots are not the only ones who speak out about women in the entertainment industry, but
their voice is heard louder than anyone else s in the Muslim world. Their voices are so loud in fact,
that there is now an undeclared set boundary that female singers and actresses are expected to respect
and obediently stay within in the Islamic society. Things such as incorporating sexual moves in a
dance or being l?? lyrics in an album or track, depicting a sexually charged character a show, or even
displaying skin while dancing or performing are all extremely looked down upon by the Islamic
community. Although I am not endorsing all of these things (too much skin can get a bit
uncomfortable to watch), I am suggesting that these females are too restricted within their own career
by being told how to act and behave.
The intention of Islam is not to purposely discriminate against actresses and female singers. In fact, its
intentions are pure and honorable. The origin of dressing purely and conservatively on television and
in music came from the act of wearing the hijab, or the headscarf. Intended to shield women from the
wandering eyes of the evil intentioned men, the act of wearing the scarf was initiated for the

Yes, they do have to break up the occasional scuffle between inmates but they also have to make sure

Contraband in jails can be drugs or weapons that were smuggled in illegally. The reason CO s or

Chipewan Family Vs Nuclear Family Essay
When it came to the Chipewyan, first marriages were arranged by parents, and girls were often
betrothed in childhood. Patrilateral cross cousin marriage may have been preferred. Polygyny was

The Minister’s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne
One of literatures greatest quality is allowing the reader s mind to uncover subliminal messages in an
attempt to form their own understandings and ideas. Perhaps, this particular process is commonly
described in the idiom reading between the lines. While many writers have implanted this literary
aspect into their works, this essay focuses on a specific parable written by Nathaniel Hawthorne
entitled The Minister s Black Veil. Notably, a parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or
spiritual lesson. The characters and setting of which Hawthorne uses to get his point across creates an
overwhelming atmosphere that increases the power of his message. An analysis of Nathaniel

In this parable, Mr. Hooper gives an invisible element in sin a physical appearance in the black veil
which now makes his sin a connection between himself, God, and the townspeople. It is apparent that
Mr. Hooper is dealing with some sort of internal conflict and his way of confronting his issue is by
covering his face from everyone with the black veil.
Lastly, there are several themes in The Minister s Black Veil relating to topics including sin, guilt, fear,
and judgment. The first theme focuses on people s reaction to change. Soon after Mr. Hooper covers
his face, people secluded themselves from him and gave him bewildered stares even after he showed
them courtesy. Likewise, his wife Elizabeth left him after she failed to persuade him to abandon the
black veil. The narrator also explains how Mr. Hooper created a group of converts as well as how
people at their deathbed would not take their last breath until they received consolation from Mr.
Hooper. Strangers began to travel from long distances just to hear his sermons and gaze at his figure.
Another theme found in The Minister s Black Veil is that people fear what they do not know and do
not understand. The mystery of the black veil perhaps was the biggest thing that intimidated the
townspeople. Mr. Hooper is overcome with the same horror as the townspeople when he catches a
glimpse of himself. In an attempt to solve the mystery of the black veil, the townspeople past

Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Alan Moore
Watchmen by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons utilizes the literary tool of symbols.
Symbols such as the smiley pin, clocks, and the haunting who watches the watchmen graffiti all come
up several times in the graphic novel, thus alluding to a deeper meaning. Time is a major theme
throughout the comic and plays a significant part in the structure and outcome of the story. This theme
is successfully coupled to the theme of destiny by the use of the clock and other symbols that are
present throughout the comic. Symbols such as clocks, the smiley pin, and the graffiti are utilized to
efficiently connect the themes of time, justice and loss of innocence throughout Watchmen. The clocks
in Watchmen are used to foreshadow the future events in the novel and connect the theme of morality
to the theme of time. Other than the literal connection between calling themselves Watchmen and
actual watches, clocks and time in general play a huge part in the arc of the comic s storyline. Doctor
Manhattan s father was a watchmaker before learning that time is relevant and therefore useless. Jon
himself finds this out through his own experience with time and seeing back and forth through it. This
is particularly important because the whole
reason he became a superhero is because of a watch:
(Moore 4.7 8) The last thing the reader sees is Jon holding the watch before he is disintegrated by the
nuclear reactor. This connects to the doomsday clock because of the similar threat of

I Do Not Care About Social Norms Essay
Mira expresses her dauntless love in the poem I do not care about Social Norms . She is a brave
woman. In those times, Indian women were not allowed to go out of the house and express themselves
independently. On the other hand, Mira joined the company of the saints and did not care about social
norms. Mira conveys that she will fasten the bells of Lord Krishna s love in her feet and will dance in
front of Giridhar (Lord Krishna). She lovingly calls Him Giridhar as He was called by the people of
Vrindavan in His pastimes. She desires to please His eyes by dancing for a long period of time for
Him. She conveys that her love for Lord Krishna is ancient, that is, she loved Him in her previous
births also praying to get Divine love. She claims that her love for Lord Krishna is the only truth as
depicted in the poem:
I will fasten the bells of his love to my feet and dance in front of Girdhar.
Dancing and dancing I will please his eyes,
My love is an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She keeps on gazing at the path after sweeping it being hopeful of Lord Krishna s arrival. She gazed at
the path until her eyes turned blood shot. Now her enthusiasm and hopefulness is gradually getting
transformed into restlessness. She has no peace by night or day waiting for her beloved by gazing at
the path continuously. She cannot give rest to her eyes thinking that Lord Krishna may arrive at any
time. She feels as if her heart is going to break. She has been waiting for Him since a very long time.
She conveys in the poem that Lord Krishna were her companion in her previous births. Mira had a
firm belief that, in her last birth, she was one of the several gopis who had fallen in love with Shri
Krishna as their beloved. Gopis used to lose consciousness listening to the sound of the flute played
by Krishna. The poem I sent Letters ends with Mira asking Lord Krishna that when will He come.
This shows the longing in her heart to meet Lord

  • 2. Diversity In American Schools In chapter six the topic was about school and society. What I have gathered from this chapter is that a lot of schools and teachers aren t incorporating and taking into consideration the culture and language of the students that attend the schools. The issue of diversity was major problem in schools and still happens today. The idea that minority students aren t receiving the best education they can because teachers aren t trained to fit their needs is kind of sad and unfair to those students. Students who come from Mexican families have a hard time communicating their teachers, because their teachers don t know how to speak to them nor understand them. • 3. The Three Major Correctional Reformers Of the three major correctional reformers, I believe that Cesare Beccaria accomplished the most for corrections. Cesare Beccaria emphasized that the use of punishment for crimes was used solely for the purpose of protecting society and preventing crime. This is extremely important, because in the past, individuals were using punishment as a means of revenge, but Cesare changed this idea. Cesare s ideas eventually led to creation of classical criminology, and this alone helped to pave the road to ending unjustifiable punishments and inhumane treatment. Classical criminology contained six principles, and all of these principles emphasized the importance of using punishment to promote deterrence and prevention. Within these principles Cesare explains that prevention is more important than anything. This idea led to major reforms, including getting secret accusations and torturing of individuals abolished. That was not all, however, Cesare saw that the accused were not being given the benefit of the doubt, hence the torturing of individuals to get confessions that may or may not be true. He decided that the accused should have the right to a speedy trial, also humane treatment before the trial, and finally, the right to bring forward any evidence they may have on their behalf. This ultimately gave the accused a voice that they never had. Today, we see the idea of a speedy trial within our Constitution, along with other laws promoting fairness for those who have been accused. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The anomalies were an enlarged spleen, enlarged thymus and enlarged lymph nodes. 3.1 The Spleen The spleen is an organ of the immune system (lymphatic system). It function is filter the blood and maintain it in a healthy way. The spleen produces two types of pulp to perform its function, the red and the white pulp (Goodenough McGuire, 2014). The red pulp filters the damaged blood cells, palates and foreign materials in the blood, so it recycles the blood. On other hand, the white pulp is composed from lymphocytes, macrophages and plasma cells that help clean the blood. These two pulps work interchangeably to make sure the blood is filtered completely from any foreign materials and dead cells. Splenomegaly, which is the enlargement of the spleen, could happen due to four main causes, which were cancer, infection, liver or blood diseases (Kuntz, 2006). An enlarged spleen causes hypersplenism; it is a process where the spleen increases the filtration process of the blood cells. This causes the spleen to recycle more blood and consider it to be a foreign material. Consequently, more RBCs, WBCs and palates in the blood plasma are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. The Effects Of Torture On The Society Of Modern Technology When one thinks of torture, what is imagined? Perhaps they think of those wooden machines in the museums that they cannot even comprehend the use for, or the iron maiden, a cinematic favorite. Perhaps they don t think of anything specific like that at all, for it isn t a question often presented. Torture, regardless, is a gruesome term with gruesome connotations. In our progressive society of modern technology, it is thankfully an issue of the past. Or... is it? It s not, we know it isn t. As a society of the unaffected, we simply don t think about it. We are vaguely aware of the fact that torture once occurred in prevalence at some point in time and happens somewhere today. It did happen, and it still does. Torture is deliberate violence ... Judicial torture is a punishment regardless of what or why, as long as it classifies as torture. The words are occasionally interchangeable, as every case of lawful torture is a punishment but not every punishment is necessarily torture. Historically, judicial torture has been used for ages, albeit differing in how it is carried out today. Torture for the purpose of criminal punishment first emerged in the twelfth century in Northern Italy when prosecution done privately by popes and royalty on criminals became prevalent and under threat when their political authority became more centralized. During the remaining years of the Middle Ages, the process spread to much of Europe (Encyclopedia.com). In the late twelfth century, the inquisitional procedure was introduced to papal legislation with the purpose of controlling those who strayed from the church, and eventually, this eventually extended to secular (nonreligious) crime as well. Early medieval law had more severe criminal cases dealt with by ordeal, oath, or judicial combat. • 7. The Rights Of Ruth Simpson And Gay Rights Ruth Simpson (1926 2008) Run through plagiarism check Politics isn t just about who gets to conquer countries, fight wars or make laws in government. It s also about the slow grind and struggle of those who work behind the scenes to make things happen. Nobody exemplifies this more than Ruth Simpson, a gay rights activist who toiled for decades to raise awareness of LGBTQ rights in the US. In 1976, when Ruth wrote her pioneering book on lesbian identity, From the Closet to the Courts, gay men and women could be fired from their jobs, targeted by police, or harassed on the street with full impunity. The majority of US states even legally barred gay people from certain jobs, including those in teaching, policing, law and medicine even dentistry. If anything is testament to the work that LGBTQ activists like Ruth have done, it is that such measures seem ludicrous and unthinkable today. But the world that Ruth operated in was a vastly different one. Born to two committed socialists deeply involved in the labor movement, Ruth was exposed to activism at an early age. By the time she was 12, her parents were taking her to picket lines, where she witnessed her father beaten up by a cop right in front of her. The result, however, was that Ruth disavowed politics she had seen the heartbreak and anxiety that her parents activism had brought about. Instead, she studied drama and English at university and moved to New York to pursue a brief career on Broadway. But she found that she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the truce was the momentary cease fire, the war is actually on going status between the North Korea and the South Korea. This war certainly became a tragic to both Korean people and other people who were involved. A lot of people were dead, wounded, missing and captured, and some other social and political issues were raised. Various conflicting interests were prevalent in the international relations and no one had the same thoughts with others. For example, United States participated to protect the democracy in the eastern Asia and to protect the American soil from possible threats, the communism. Even though America helped South Korea to protect its own sovereignty, there were previous chances to bring peace beforehand. In January 1950, United States announced that South Korea and Taiwan are no longer under the protection strategies. Afterwards, US army left Korea based on their announcements. However, America would notice that there will be a certain incident if they leave Korea. The fact that the American army left and South Korea is no longer under the strategical plan made North Korea to persuade some communist countries to get some supports. This proxy war happened in Korea brought a wave of death to many people regardless of their nationalities. The environment, defined by Duncan (1972) as the totality of physical and social factors that are taken directly into consideration in the decision making behavior of individuals in the organization has changed for the Senate. Specifically, the collective bargaining agreement put in place has changed the social structure of the relationship between the faculty and the administration. The previously understood purview of the Senate has been altered by this significant environmental change. The process undertaken to brainstorm the issue of Senate direction was an example of the senate working to modify an element of the university collegium in place at BGSU. University collegium is described by Downey (2006) in part as: the complex network of assumptions, traditions, protocols, relations and structures which permit the professoriate to control the academic affairs of the institution . Utilizing general principles of social constructionism, ideas were considered by the senators in an informal peer to peer fashion to address the above questions. Working as a community of scholars with a wide variety of specializations, the senators made an effort to collectively define a new role for the Senate. Their ideas were collected and will be synthesized, with the intent of producing a sense of the Senate document to be used to guide further activities. The outcome of this ... It is something that people need in order for them to keep their cars going and for many other reasons in this world. When the cost of gas drops down, the usual consumer s response is positive, however, that might not be the case for some producers in the market. The lower cost of gas means that people will be able to save money which is exactly what any consumers would want in the market. Specific consumers who benefit the most from cheap oil are working and middle class people who spend an unbalanced amount of their money on gas to fill up their cars and to heat their homes. As a result of cheap oil, the amount of money that people will save can now go to expenses like buying a new car, purchasing new electronics, traveling elsewhere, or even as small as going out to a nice dinner (p.34). All these results will cause a hotel boom, a restaurant boom, and labor shortages that will increase wages (p.36). However, with the positive side of cheap gas comes the negative side as well. The effect of cheap gas on producers is not the same as the effect that it has on consumers in the market. The decrease in oil prices are pressuring gas producers responsible for the domestic energy boom. Also, when prices of barrel drops significantly, the activity in the shale basins is not very profitable which means drilling of oil has to come to a stop (p.35). This will cause an unemployment of people who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The First Path Of Formation Of The Kazakh Diaspora Repression was blown to frightening enormous proportions. Repressions even reached the traditional knowledge holders Kazakh shamans baksi , which J. Assmann calls special carriers of cultural memory [13]. During this period, the trend of migration had been strengthened, and about a million ethnic Kazakhs was forced to migrate from their historic homeland to neighboring countries. It was the first path of formation of the Kazakh Diaspora, but there was also a second way: creation of state borders separated part of the kazakh people and made it difficult to communicate with the main ethnic masses [14], this process in science is called irredentism [15]. Thus, in the second half of the XIX century after the establishment of the Russian Chinese border part of Kazakhs who had been wintering in the former Qing Empire territory was in the allegiance of China. Subsequently, in 1916 after the suppression of the anti colonial rebellion in 1932 1934. During dispossession, collectivisation and famine some Kazakh tribes migrated from Kazakhstan to Xinjiang and took Chinese citizenship [16]. The main concentration of the Kazakh migrant fell on Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey, Mongolia and China. Due to the special historical and political circumstances, one nation was artificially split into two parts repatriates and local , which naturally provoke the break of once united culture in two, conventionally called oralman and local culture. • 13. A Report On Healthsouth Used Bad Debt Reserves Essay whatsoever. Moreover, the amount of the accounts written off in any given year did not correlate with the allowance established for them. To the extent that these disclosures were reliable, these data indicate that HealthSouth used bad debt reserves to manipulate earnings. This lack of correlation could be an indirect indicator of the fourth warning sign of abusive earnings management: reserves that are not correlated with balance sheet items. Consider two related items related to uncollectible accounts, to further understand possible earnings management. First, there were disproportionately large allowance for doubtful accounts balances at the end of 1994 and 1995: nearly 40% of gross receivables. These existing balances could have been drawn down without the need to record an accurate provision for doubtful accounts. Consequently, the year end charge to bad expense, required to replenish the depleted contra asset account, could have been less than normally expected if the unadjusted allowance balance jibed with economic reality. By understating expenses in this manner, HealthSouth could have manufactured earnings beginning in the mid 1990s. These data provide some evidence of the classic cookie jar reserve ploy (Reed et al, 2003). The related issue is the amount of bad debt expense matched against revenues in 1999. As noted, that unusually large charge to earnings was made at the time when it became publicly known that HealthSouth could no longer hit its earnings target. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Don’t Discriminate the Breed How would you react if you became next to or close to a stray dog? Would you respond by running, yelling, or even kicking or hitting the animal? Would you respond calmly, call animal control or even walk away? Just because the dog is mean doesn t make it aggressive. Aggression is such a broad term and it s not all bad. The four types I am going to address are protective aggression, territorial aggression, fear motivated aggression, and pain induced aggression. Aggression that happens when a mother protects a family member whether it is human or another animal is called protective aggression. Dogs that want to protect/defend their home or area is territorial aggression. An example is when you dog chases up and down the fence line. When a dog is scared it may protect itself for their own safety. That is known as fear motivated aggression. This often occurs most then a dog is stuck or cornered. Pain induced aggression is when a dog is in pain it can respond aggressively. When they do that it is to try and help their selves but it may injury someone else. That is why when you are approaching a wounded animal you do so with caution. A lot of people say aggression is random but it s not. Aggression can be triggered many ways. It is also always response to something in the dog s environment whether it is an action of a human or the appearance/attitude of another dog. Cesar Millan says any breed can cause trouble. One of the first free will that had a major impact was when the conspiracy decided that they were going to kill Caesar (2, 1, 6). Calpurnia is Caesars wife; she has a dream that her husband will die soon and she is very worried that he will go to the capital the next day and be killed. When she tells this story to Caesar he believes it is non sense until she persuades him to stay. But then Decius comes and says that that was not what the dream meant and that he should go. The only one that can make this decision is Caesar himself with his own free will. And so he decides to go to the capitol. (2, 2, 1 to 2, 2, 5) this leads to the death and his good friend Mark Antony is secretly mad about this and when Brutus who would have been named leader allows him to speak to the people about his death he uses his free will to turn the people against the conspirators and sends the people into battle with him.(3,2,1 to 3,2,12) Once the battle of plebeians or the people of Rome and conspirators is coming to an end Brutus uses his final free will to take his own life. • 33. Essay about Muslim Women in the Entertainment Industry Muslim Women in the Entertainment Industry Imagine a world immersed in beauty, wealth, gloss, and fame. I may be generalizing, but lets just say it s a world in which you are born with a streaming talent that most individuals could only dream of. You constantly have hordes of spectators cheering your success and everyone wants to be your friend. The greatest fear of most women seems to be being hideous or lacking capacity and you have no idea what that feels like. Seems spectacular, doesn t it? Taking part in movies that portray love scenes or god forbid, kissing, is horrifying and according to the extremists in Islam, the women who indulge in these acts are no better than trash. It is true that religious zealots are not the only ones who speak out about women in the entertainment industry, but their voice is heard louder than anyone else s in the Muslim world. Their voices are so loud in fact, that there is now an undeclared set boundary that female singers and actresses are expected to respect and obediently stay within in the Islamic society. Things such as incorporating sexual moves in a dance or being l?? lyrics in an album or track, depicting a sexually charged character a show, or even displaying skin while dancing or performing are all extremely looked down upon by the Islamic community. Although I am not endorsing all of these things (too much skin can get a bit uncomfortable to watch), I am suggesting that these females are too restricted within their own career by being told how to act and behave. The intention of Islam is not to purposely discriminate against actresses and female singers. In fact, its intentions are pure and honorable. The origin of dressing purely and conservatively on television and in music came from the act of wearing the hijab, or the headscarf. Intended to shield women from the wandering eyes of the evil intentioned men, the act of wearing the scarf was initiated for the betterment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yes, they do have to break up the occasional scuffle between inmates but they also have to make sure they re fed, and housed properly, along with making sure that they have no contraband in their cells. Contraband in jails can be drugs or weapons that were smuggled in illegally. The reason CO s or Correction Officer s have to do contraband searches is because they can not have any illegal items in their facility or else they can get in trouble for not seeing it or finding it. During the searches they also have to make sure prisoners are not trying to escape and breaking the bars to their windows. Obviously the correction officers need to check for a potential escape route for inmates because some would much rather risk their lives and future freedom after their sentence than to actually serve their sentence. In the small city of Konark, rests one of the most unique and iconic religious monuments of India the Konark Sun Temple. The Minister’s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne One of literatures greatest quality is allowing the reader s mind to uncover subliminal messages in an attempt to form their own understandings and ideas. Perhaps, this particular process is commonly described in the idiom reading between the lines. While many writers have implanted this literary aspect into their works, this essay focuses on a specific parable written by Nathaniel Hawthorne entitled The Minister s Black Veil. Notably, a parable is a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson. The characters and setting of which Hawthorne uses to get his point across creates an overwhelming atmosphere that increases the power of his message. In this parable, Mr. Hooper gives an invisible element in sin a physical appearance in the black veil which now makes his sin a connection between himself, God, and the townspeople. It is apparent that Mr. Hooper is dealing with some sort of internal conflict and his way of confronting his issue is by covering his face from everyone with the black veil. Lastly, there are several themes in The Minister s Black Veil relating to topics including sin, guilt, fear, and judgment. The first theme focuses on people s reaction to change. Soon after Mr. Hooper covers his face, people secluded themselves from him and gave him bewildered stares even after he showed them courtesy. Likewise, his wife Elizabeth left him after she failed to persuade him to abandon the black veil. The narrator also explains how Mr. Hooper created a group of converts as well as how people at their deathbed would not take their last breath until they received consolation from Mr. Hooper. Strangers began to travel from long distances just to hear his sermons and gaze at his figure. Another theme found in The Minister s Black Veil is that people fear what they do not know and do not understand. The mystery of the black veil perhaps was the biggest thing that intimidated the townspeople. Mr. Hooper is overcome with the same horror as the townspeople when he catches a glimpse of himself. In an attempt to solve the mystery of the black veil, the townspeople past judgment and create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Alan Moore Watchmen by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons utilizes the literary tool of symbols. Symbols such as the smiley pin, clocks, and the haunting who watches the watchmen graffiti all come up several times in the graphic novel, thus alluding to a deeper meaning. Time is a major theme throughout the comic and plays a significant part in the structure and outcome of the story. This theme is successfully coupled to the theme of destiny by the use of the clock and other symbols that are present throughout the comic. Symbols such as clocks, the smiley pin, and the graffiti are utilized to efficiently connect the themes of time, justice and loss of innocence throughout Watchmen. The clocks in Watchmen are used to foreshadow the future events in the novel and connect the theme of morality to the theme of time. Other than the literal connection between calling themselves Watchmen and actual watches, clocks and time in general play a huge part in the arc of the comic s storyline. Doctor Manhattan s father was a watchmaker before learning that time is relevant and therefore useless. Jon himself finds this out through his own experience with time and seeing back and forth through it. This is particularly important because the whole reason he became a superhero is because of a watch: (Moore 4.7 8) The last thing the reader sees is Jon holding the watch before he is disintegrated by the nuclear reactor.
