Security Versus Privacy Essay
Security Versus Privacy
As a result of 9/11, our country has been faced with a new issue: electronic privacy. The terrorists that
attacked us used our own technology against us to protect their activities from our view. Because of
this, we are now forced to make a decision between two desirable things: privacy and national
security. On the one hand, our right to privacy will ensure that our personal rights are not violated,
whereas, on the other hand, national security would allow us some comfort against the evil in the
world. What are we supposed to do? This issue, however it is decided, will have tremendous impact
on each and every one of our lives. The ruling that the government makes concerning this issue will
greatly alter the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would eliminate the sheltering of illegal activities and allow increased, tighter surveillance of
cyberspace. Another similar solution would be to give the government a back door into all areas of
cyberspace. Basically, that would allow them to see whatever they want, whenever they want.
Encryption technology would not have to be eliminated, but it would be required to include a
government ?back door?, so that any encryption code can be quickly broken if the need arises. A
writer for the Christian Science Monitor put it this way: ?people are willing to trade almost anything
for increased security, if they think it would make a difference? (Grier). Overall, however, this
position is held by very few people. The last solution is the one that is generally supported by those
who favor the right of personal privacy. They propose that everything should remain as it is. There
will be some minor adjustments to the current encryption technologies, but it will be allowed to exist
free of any back doors or restrictions. In a debate of the new Anti Terrorism Bill, Senator Patrick
Leahy stated that ?as Ben Franklin once observed, ?if we surrender our liberty in the name of security,
we shall have neither?? (Leahy). This is the position that is currently held by the Senate on the matter
of internet security.
The first side of this issue involves those people that are strongly concerned for our

John Updike In Football Season Analysis
In Football Season Green grass under the display of bright field lights. Late on a friday night. The
scent of popcorn overflows out of the concession stand and into the stands. Students paint each others
skin until it is caked like glue. Many people that grew up in America can recall these descriptions with
ease. A certain smell or feeling can often take people back to a vivid memory in life. In his short story
In Football Season, John Updike uses various literary elements to illustrate his themes of reminiscing
and the perception of time to take the narrator back to a time he remembers so eloquently, football
season at his local high school. First, Updike does an incredible job of using imagery to paint a

He creates a themes based on the perception of time and reminiscing on good times. He misses the
time he had in high school on those friday nights. People often reminisce on memories in their past
and realize that those beloved moments are long gone. This is put on display when Updike ends his
story with Girls walk by me carrying their invisible bouquets from fields still steeped in grace, and i
look up in the manner of one who follows with his eye the passage of a hearse, and remembers what
pierces him (125). The invisible bouquets are his recollection of their fragrance wrapped in front of
their arms(125). He then provides the metaphor of watching those thoughts disappearing like the
passage of a hearse. His memories are dead and pass by him in the back of a hearse. Everyone
experiences these same moments of reminisce. However, time seems to move in slow motion as he
recalls his teenage years, a span of moments that appear to be endless. Now, tuning the corner into
adulthood, we found time to be instead a black immensity endlessly supplied, like the wind (Updike
124). This is how the Narrator describes time as a fifteen year

Summary Of Lewis Thomas On Societies As Organisms
We, human beings feel distinctly unique, individual and most importantly, unmistakably superior due
to our exclusive intelligence. This is why we, as a society, tend to look down on other types of life
forms, insect or animal, as they do not possess that desired intellect. Yet, Lewis Thomas, in his opinion
essay On Societies as Organisms , argues that human society has much to learn from the communal
accomplishment of other life forms. The author effectively conveys this main idea through his use of
analogy, enumeration of examples and through his level of language.
To begin, Thomas astutely uses analogies to make parallels between human society and other life
forms as to inform us of our deficiencies when contrasted with those other life forms. Thomas, first of
all, defines an organism as being a live computer (233) composed of component parts (233), an
accumulation of individuals communicating and working as one towards a common objective.
Subsequently, the analogy of the organism is used to represent the ideal human society. Hence, when
ants build their nest (233), the Hill (233), humans build their knowledge, accumulate a mountain of
knowledge (235). However, what Thomas wants us to acknowledge is that human knowledge is a
jigsaw puzzle in the sense that it is accumulated piece by piece, never all at once, never by a single
individual (Ziman qtd. in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his essay, Thomas stresses the importance of working collectively and communication in scientific
discoveries. This concept of working together is more important, now than never, as international

Informative Essay On Sled Dogs
Samoyeds, Huskies and Malamutes are all breeds of sled dogs. They are most commonly used to pull
heavy loads. These dogs must be built well and have a lot of stamina in order to pull the load. First, I
will tell you about Samoyeds, then Huskies, and lastly Malamutes. Samoyeds are fluffy white dogs
that live about 12 to 13 years. They normally grow up to 32 to 55 lbs. in weight and 19 to 24 inches
tall. How do you take care of Samoyeds? Samoyeds are pretty easy to take care of, as they are quite
smart and not as hard to train as teeny tiny dogs. The younger the Samoyed, the less it eats and vice
versa. You should never allow a grown Samoyed to become overweight, otherwise the dog will be sad.
The adaptability of this particular dog is great, it will adapt well to most things. The friendliness of
this dog is amazing, as it has an all around amazing personality. On the contrary to popular belief,
however, it is not easy to groom, and this dog will gain weight easily if you do not feed it correctly.

Critically Assess The Concept Of Sustainable Development...
Critically assess the concept of Sustainable Development
The concept of sustainable development is generally understood in two similar but differing
perspectives. The first of these is the social scientific definition explicated most frequently in relation
to the 1987 report of the Brundtland commission.1 This report defines sustainable development as our
...ability to make development sustainable to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs 2. The second perspective of
sustainable development is that of the ecological definition, which holds that it is a necessity to
maintaining healthy, thriving ecosystems in order to facilitate concurrent healthy and thriving human
societies.3 Thus both of these definitions are propounding a pragmatic normativity, albeit from
slightly differing outlooks: the former concerned more with socio economic factors, and the latter
more with environmental considerations.4
Although the term sustainable development was first coined within the Brundtland report,5 the
concept of sustainable consumption is not a new one, with it s roots in historic forestry management
practices.6 However, since the late 20th century the need for a sustainable form of development has
increasingly becoming more and more evident. Advances in technology and increasing levels of
global economic development coupled with a rapidly growing population levels has led to a

Abstract In the following paper we are going to discuss the different coding techniques such as
Orthogonal STBC , Alamouti s coding and their performance on a QPSK signal with Rayleigh fading.
We will plot it for SNR values ranging from 0dB to 40 dB. In this we will be taking different
combination for number of transmitting and the radiating antenna used.

Alamouti s coding includes 2 transmitting and 2 receiving antennas. The h matrix for this type would
be 2x2 matrix. The transmission rate is also optimized to the full capacity as it transmits 2 signals in 2
time slots. The full data rate can be achieved in this coding technique.

have significant effect on the management style of the managers, and these variables were critical in
shaping management styles in the three electronic plants. These four variables are: the initial culture

The Extinction Of The Wolf Populations
In the past several years news organizations have reported that the wolf populations have been
dwindling and researchers are attempting to bring the wolf populations back to what they should be.
The population on Royal Isle has been struggling to survive. Many populations are suffering on the
island and researchers are struggling to make the population hit a point where they are able to survive
without overpopulating or under populating. The wolf population in upper Michigan has now hit a
high where people are starting to hunt them to protect wildlife. It used to be a very small population
but now it is thriving which will cause adverse consequences. This is also a struggle in Yellowstone
National Park. People have a lot of different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The animals who ate off of the scrapes from wolf kills now have to go to other places to find protein
and food (Kluger). Once the scientists thought that the population was getting to low the new pack
was introduced. Once the new pack was introduced the other animal populations got more under
control. The coyotes were brought back down to a manageable size which helped the other
populations come back to normal range. This is a good sign because now the environment can go back
to the way it should be and be lush again. Now that the wolf population is back to where it should be,
other concerns have come into the topic. The grey wolf is a protected species that cannot be hunted in
any way. This is causing problems with the locals. Many farmers feel that they need to protect their
livestock by whatever means necessary. With the wolves being protected they cannot shot them like
they would back in the older times. The wolf population that was introduced back in 1995 is from
Canada though. They are also considered an experimental group because they are being observed.
This causes concern to the civilians living near the wolves. The wolves in the experimental group can
be shot or killed to protect livestock but the protected group cannot. If the protected group is killed
there would be consequences. This leaves a question every time a wolf is shot as to whether or not the
wolf is

Homebuyer Interest Rate
The first mortgage option is a 15 year, fixed rate mortgage. This mortgage type maintains a steady
interest rate for the fifteen year term of the loan and requires the homebuyer to make equal monthly
payments until the loan is amortized (Zillow.com, n.d.[b]). Because the term of this loan is short, the
monthly mortgage payment will be higher than with a longer term loan as the principal must be paid
off in a shorter amount of time. The interest rate associated with a mortgage varies by lending
institution, homebuyer s credit score, loan term, location of home, among other variables (Geffner,
2009). For the purposes of this analysis, we will assume that the homebuyer has qualified for Bank of
America s 15 year, fixed rate mortgage interest rate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With an initial interest rate of 3.5%, a homebuyer s monthly principal/interest payment during the first
ten years is $772.36. The actual monthly payment will be, as with the 15 year fixed rate mortgage,
increased by the monthly escrow payments of homeowner s insurance and property taxes making the
actual monthly payment during the first ten years $1,246.36. Under the assumption that the interest
rate would increase by 0.1% every year after the initial 10 year period, the homebuyer s
principal/interest payment increases from the aforementioned $772.36, to $850.15, with their total
monthly payment increasing from $1,246.36 to $1,324.21. Again, the proportion of the
principal/interest payment directed towards interest charges is the periodic interest rate of the period
multiplied by the previous month s ending principal balance. The remainder of the principal/interest
payment is then applied to the principal balance. Under the given terms, the homebuyer will have paid
an initial $43,000 down payment, $172,000 in principal payments and $118,539.50 in interest charges
for a total expenditure on a $215,000 listed home of

Objectives Of Micro Teaching
A teacher training technique which is known as micro teaching is practiced all over the world. This
technique helps the teachers to improve their teaching skills. The history of microteaching goes back
to the early and mid 1960 s, when Dwight Allen and his colleagues (Bush, McDonald, Acheson and
many more) from the Stanford University developed a training program aimed to improve verbal and
nonverbal aspects of teacher s speech and general performance. According to D.W.Allan (1966),
Micro teaching is a scaled down teaching encounter in class size and class time . Micro teaching
enhances the presentation and reinforcement skills which further aid in real time teaching experience.
During teaching in real classroom, it is not only a simple matter of transferring the knowledge from
one to another. Actually it is a complex process that directly influences the process of learning.
Quality of a teacher is estimated on how much the students understand from his/her teaching. Before
entering in class, a teacher should know about teaching skills. Actual classroom cannot be used to
acquire primary teaching skills. Students learning process will be affected if new teachers make the
classroom an experimental place. The main objectives of micro teaching as stated by Otsupius (2014)
are that it helps teacher trainees to learn and practice new teaching ... Show more content on

A Tale Of Two Cities Essay
Capitol Punishment: Toy of Evil Men
One might believe that because capital punishment plays such a large role in Charles Dickens A Tale
Of Two Cities, that Dickens himself is a supporter of it. This just simply is not true. Dickens uses
capitol punishment as a tool to define the evil embodied in both the French ruling class, and the
opposing lower class during the French Revolution; as well as comment on the sheep like nature of
humankind.
In the beginning of the novel, capital punishment serves as the quot;cure all quot; for France s social
problems. After all, quot;death is nature s remedy for all things, and why not legislation s? quot; (62).
It is this attitude that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
quot; They are murdering the prisoners, quot; says Mr. Lorry to Darnay after arriving in France (260).
Again Dickens uses capitol punishment as a way to show the reader the atrocities that humanity can
create when consumed with hatred and evil. Dickens can be seen approaching the subject of the
guillotine with cynical sarcasm when he writes, quot;it was the popular theme for jests; it was the best
cure for headache, it infallibly prevented the hair from turning gray...who kissed La Guillotine looked
through the little window and sneezed into the sack quot; (271). Just as with the Aristocrats, Dickens
does not condone the Jacques use of capital punishment. His disdain is apparent in his tone; which
gnaws away at any inkling the reader may have that the treatment of the prisoners is fair.
Capital punishment is also used as a social commentary by showing how people cling to the popular
attitudes and beliefs of the day. People are quick to adopt the guillotine as their new savior. Dickens
articulates the common attitude towards this when he writes, quot;[the guillotine] was the sign of the
regeneration of the human race. It superseded the cross quot; (271). These quot;followers of the
guillotine quot; are ruthless in their quest for blood as they shout quot;Take off his head...an enemy to
the republic! quot; (280). By showing the ridiculous manner in which the people of France behave,
Dickens teaches us a lesson about

Exploring Coral Springs s Theory Of Public Spaces

in particular its citizens (Chen, Orum, and Paulsen 22). The place I call home is Coral Springs, Florida
it has a variety of public spaces available to the community with open access. The public spaces
utilized in my community are locations such as the local parks, gymnasium, open fields, and a
variation of other location. These locations are either in walking or driving distance of my

the Coral Springs Museum of Art, it keeps democratic rights flourishing. Individuals in Coral Springs
are exposed to different interpretation of art and this promotes democratic spaces. The residents in
Coral Springs get a strong feeling of community, when public areas are accessible. This feeling of
community makes the unit stronger and more unified as a whole, when more places are public. By
nurturing the community with accessible areas such as local parks, gymnasium, open fields, or aquatic
complexes creates a closer bond within the community. Democracy has an important role within Coral
Springs use of place by having different location available and it becomes more heterogenetic. Open
places in my community such as the local parks create social constructions that evolve over time. This
leads to a more rebus democracy that can lead to equality. By having an open dialogue within the

vessels to open up in order that more blood can enter the penis. As soon as the blood is there, the
spongy muscle groups that make up the majority of the penis relax so the blood vessels have room to

Operational Leaders Down At The Platoon And Squad Level
Operational leaders down to the platoon and squad level have recently faced increasingly complex
missions in uncertain operational environments. Accordingly, Army doctrine has shifted to officially
recognize mission command, which enables leaders at the lowest level feasiblt to exercise disciplined
initiative in the accomplishment of a larger mission (ADP 6 ), 2012, p. 2). Mission command is broken
down into six tenants: undertand, visualize, describe, direct, lead, and assess (Mission Command
2011, 3 5). During the battle of Fallujah, LtGen Natonski understood the intent two levels up,
visualizing courses of actions for both allies and the enemy and leading his organization into combat

Mission command is execution of military operations through devolved execution based upon mission
type orders. Successful mission command demands that leaders at all echelons employ disciplined
initiative and act aggressively and independently to accomplish the mission. Throughout the
operation, commanders must understand, visualize, describe, direct, lead and assess the mission and
develop courses of action as needed. Let us look at some of the six principles of mission command.
Understanding
The battle of Fallujah is considered to be the bloodiest war of Iraq. In mission command, the
commander must understand the problem, envision the end state and visualize the nature and design of
operation. Familiarity of the environment and utilization of right resources were crucial in making
decisions at all levels, led to a successful reestablishment of governance of Fallujah. LtGen Natonski
was able to reduce civilian casualties and damage to infrastructures by envisioning and developing
courses of action that clearly described and directed his intent at all levels. This was clearly observed
and seen during a briefing conducted to the Regimental Combat teams (RCT) commanders who left
with a good understanding of the intent of the operation in the early stages of planning. The British,
Iraqi forces and attached Army units to RCT 1 7

Compare And Contrast Walt Whitman And I Too Sing America...
How are you known? A last name is what defines them, it tells their past. It tells what they should be
like in relation to ancestors. When the word amerca comes to mind do you consider it part of you?
Walt whitman was a man that was born in New York, he knew what america came from. Whitman
wrote a poem called I Hear America Singing. In this poem he tells of citizens doing their job or daily
duty while singing America. Later on in history a man named Langston Hughes, he was an African
american poet during the Harlem Renissance. This was a time period that allowed Afican Americans
Poetry to be taken seriously. Langston wrote a poem that struck the hearts of all people, it is called I,
Too, Sing Amerca, this poem expands on how hard Africna Americans had it. They had to take care of
everything for their meals, and after all of that they were sent to eat their shares in the kitchen away
from everyone. This poem was thought to be a response to whitmans poem. in these poems that have
some of the same characteristics, one of which is what people do to be an american, another is the
structure or outline of the poem, finally they also explain how proud people are to be an American.
Support 1:
One comparison of the two poems is describing what people do to be an American. Whitman
describes different people and how they show living like an american. One example from his poem is,

New Medical Findings From Anterior Cruciate Ligament...
As new medical findings become disseminated present day practices are subject to amendment,
exposing the inherent nature and complexity of the human body. This is particularly true in a health
care setting where a top down processing approach is adopted to study and treat complex
comorbidities. The problem is that, while health care professionals acknowledge the limitations of the
traditional top down approach, they rarely appropriate the necessary time needed to respond to such
constraints. This study intended to identify alternative methods of responding to disparities seen
amongst athletes recovering from anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) by embracing the
inherent nature and complexity of the human body. Rehabilitative care for an ACLR is invariably
complex and delicate in nature. Inexperience, rapidly changing technologies and procedures,
unpredictable psychosocial environments, and increasingly demanding training standards brings
immense challenges for those health care professionals involved with returning an athlete to their pre
injury level (Morrison Waltner Toews, (2010). Many factors have been found to affect the quality of
recovery. However, it is generally assumed that each factor is mutually exclusive from each other
(Duquin et. al., (2010). As a consequence, little is known about the strength and direction of
association between each variable. Before we can engage in improved rehabilitative care for ACLR, it
is important to take a step back

Unions and Political Economy
Union Articles Are union locals independent of employers or are they incorporated into the
management of the workplace? Union locals are not incorporated into the management of the
workplace. The most important objective of unions is to protect workers interests against management
s interests. This is because, in most cases, the interests of managers and those of workers are very
much different. Workers are interested in increasing their salaries, in reducing their volume of work,
and in improving workplace conditions. Managers are interested in increasing profits while reducing
investments. Therefore, negotiations must be made between the two parties. Workers must unite and
select certain people that can represent their interests in these negotiations. This is how unions were
developed. However, union locals are not independent of employers. This is because union members
and their leaders are employees of the company in case. The quality of union members and leaders is
added to the quality of employees, but this does not mean that union locals are independent of
employers. The power of employees against their employers can significantly increase when they are
union members. In addition to this, union leaders influence their members. The politics within unions
can take the form of democracies or oligarchies. In most cases, oligarchies are formed within union
members. This is usually the case when a small group of union members takes control of other
members, and

American Open Library, The First Healing Facility
Americans have dependably been autonomous gathering of individuals. We simply don t care for
being advised what to do. This is genuine now as it was previously, or will be later on. It all began in
the early pilgrim time (1700) when we truly felt ourselves as Americans . Prior to that in the 1600 s we
were only pilgrims in the new America. In the 1700 s we battled with the British to stop the union of
France and Spain. We began our own particular daily paper, the Pennsylvania Gazett distributed by
Benjamin Franklin. We opened the first American open library, the first healing facility. We began the
postal administration with Benjamin Franklin as Postmaster General. Everything was not immaculate
in the provinces. The English Parliament began raising the charges on transported in things, for
example, sugar, espresso, materials and wines. We began raising the issue of imposing taxes without
any political benefit. The English Parliament ventured to present the Quartering Act, obliging pioneers
to house British troops and supply them with nourishment. On April 19, 1775 an unordered shot starts
the American Revolution. On the off chance that the current inquiry is what were the occasions that
prompt the severance of South Carolina? Why did I burn through two passages on the American
Revolution? Since I feel it is essential to help us to remember what sort of individuals we Americans
are. How we will defend ourselves. I won t say we will battle for what is correct, one can

Video Games
Video Games The Forgotten Art Ask any major in the fine arts for the definition of art. They re likely
to tell you that it is self expression through the use of some sort of medium. Most commonly thought
of are clay for a sculpture, paint for a masterpiece, even music notes for a four movement suite. The
last thing you d think of is a computer program for a video game. But why not? Don t video games
incorporate both artwork and music? Each one is considered art, but many people consider the result,
when put together, to be a waste of time. Through personal experience, I would have to define art as
not only a way to express yourself, but as a source of inspiration to others. Not only do video games

For example, most military games are based solely on some war or other, such as the games Call of
Duty or Medal of Honor. Neither game is very original, as they really have no storyline other than to
run around shooting the enemies. Originality is a prime requisite of a game being considered art.
Other games lacking in uniqueness are games based on movies or books. Most famous in this category
are the Star Wars games and Lord of the Rings series. Both may be very fun to play, but being fun to
play does not make them art. Art is original, fresh, never before thought of material. Star Wars and
Lord of the Rings both have engaging storylines, but said storylines had already been established
years before any game was produced. Again, to be art, a video game must have an original storyline,
not a preconceived one. As a rule, few games meet the originality criterion, but there are exceptions.
The Legend of Zelda. To any gamer it is a familiar name. The reason is simple it was the first of its
kind. The Legend of Zelda was the dawning of the role playing genre in video games. As a role
playing game, it allowed the gamer to be in the decision making role, not just a straight line, no
choices game, as most were at the time. This was a new concept for a video game at the time The
Legend of Zelda was released. The storyline was a huge success, as it drew the players into the game
world, made them feel as if they were a part of it. In The Legend of

Operation Christmas Child Research Paper
In the middle of November, I stood in the middle of a loud and dusty warehouse. The floors were
covered in filth and the room was filled with a mixed age group ranging from thirteen to eighty five. I
glanced around at all of the workers and volunteers, they were so joyful and enthusiastic. It took me
all of five minutes to recognize why I was there. I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children
across the world. This was the moment in time when I realized just how fortunate my family was and
how something as simple as a cardboard shoebox could mean so much to children across the world.

Searching the boxes required the worker to extract any donations and unacceptable items such as:
liquids, toys relating to war and chocolate. Filling the boxes was another position. Here, the volunteer
would add filler items to the boxes to make certain that each child would receive a full box. Some of
the boxes were special boxes . Special boxes were going to be delivered to a restricted area that did
not want the children to receive anything that promoted Christianity. So for these shoe boxes, we
would remove any Bibles, coloring books (that are related to the bible) and anything with a bible verse
on it. These shoe boxes were very significant because they could still show children the love of Jesus
Christ.
Taping the boxes was my assignment, meaning, I secured each of the boxes with transparent packing
tape. This was by far my favorite position because I was constantly in motion and an essential role that
I was able to take leadership on. With each box that I came in contact with, I was able to pray over the

Warm Blooded Versus Cold Blooded Dinosaurs Essay
Warm Blooded Versus Cold Blooded Dinosaurs
At a time, scientists believed all dinosaurs were cold blooded. However, with a recent discovery of a
dinosaur found with a fossilized heart in the northern part of South Dakota in 1993, many
paleontologists are starting to think that there were some dinosaurs that were warm blooded.
Dinosaurs were first believed to be cold blooded because they were thought to be related closely to
reptiles which are cold blooded creatures. Cold blooded animals don t actually have cold blood,
instead they rely on the temperature from their environment to regulate their own body temperature.
They do this by taking advantage of external heat by basking in the sun, and by lying ... Show more

Because warm blooded animals don t have to rely on their environment for body temperature, they are
able to hunt at any time of the day or in any season, which is a great advantage over cold blooded
animals. Therefore this type of intense activity needs a fast metabolism which is much too high for a
cold blooded animal. Secondly, cold blooded animals have a hard time living in cold climates and
dinosaur fossils have been found in the colder environments (Eschberger). However, scientists believe
warm blooded animals would have suffered from the heat in warmer climates, where many fossils
have been discovered. Beverly Eschberger discusses how dinosaurs must have been only warm
blooded animals due to the factors of, bone structure, and histology, growth rates, predator to prey
ratios, speed and agility, rate of evolution, similarities with birds, and insulation. She also explains the
disadvantages of being a warm blooded animal: a much larger expenditure of energy to maintain
elevated metabolism and a commensurate increase in food requirements (Eschberger). Just as the
conclusion that dinosaurs were truly warm blooded becomes clearer, factors from the cold blooded
side switch everything around. Gigantothermy, rate of food supply, respiratory turbinates and lung
structure all cause scientists to believe dinosaurs were in fact cold blooded. There have been many
attempts to find the real resolution of whether or not dinosaurs were warm or cold

in Austria based in a time of the Nazi s rise to power and the simultaneous fall of the place of the
woman in society. This film tells the story of not just any woman, but a nun, a double threat in the
eyes of American cinema. Maria leaves the nunnery to become a nanny for the wealthy Von Trapp
family of 7, however her religious ideals and attempt at caring for the children is barricaded by both
the dominant Mr. Von Trapp and the heightening political pressure surrounding Mr. Von Trapp as an
officer in the army. This film presents Maria as a stereotypical desirable woman who innocently and

women who are strict in their ways and seldom voice out opinions, but rather silently protest and pray

to stand up for her self, and forces the Captain to be warmer to his children. Maria becomes a symbol
of a strong woman who has broken the traditional reliance of a man; instead Maria takes it upon
herself to aid the family into safety from Nazi takeover. Maria s individual transformation exemplifies

In some instances, trucks were idle an additional one hour after refueling. Better organization of these
processes may allow the elimination of truck.
Following actions are most desirable:
1. Eliminate two of the trucks.
2. Can we reduce the size of the truck? Maintenance cost can be reduced.
3. Encourage maximum use of radios.
4. Try to obtain airline cooperation in notifying FBO s dispatcher about delays and other irregularities.
5. Install a communications system with the dispatcher.
6. Perhaps most important, improve scheduling rules. Among the improvements may be:
o Replacing the rule send a truck to meet plane with better communication between airline, the
dispatcher, and the truck drivers and
o Encouraging drivers to retop whenever their schedule permits and the truck reaches a certain level of
available capacity.
7. Insure that the lead dispatcher s position is filled with someone with both analytic and human skills.
The most difficult challenges in implementing these recommendations may well be the establishment
of more effective channels of communication with the airline customers. Because most of the action
should improve the working conditions and do not involve staff reductions, there should be few
objections from the union.

The Evolution Of Human Speech
The Evolution of Human Speech
As human we can communicate via our speaking ability to express our feelings, as a way to deliver
the message we want another. These articles that I read discuss the anatomical prerequisite for humans
to gain the ability to speak such as the absent and present of the air sac in hominids. Morphological
changes of the face structure such as the reduced growth of the palate and the descent of the larynx.
The controversial hypotheses of the hypoglossal canal size are indicative of speech, and modern
humans have a larger hypoglossal canal size compare to other hominids were examined. These are just
the anatomical aspects of the possible contribution to the human speech.
The first paper, the study done by Bart de Boer involves the loss of air sacs serves as possible
evidence to why modern humans can produce complex language. The fact that air sacs are present in
apes and absent in modern humans and Homo neandethalensis is the interesting piece to why we and
the Neandethal are capable speak to speak and the others cannot. To investigate further to see how
early humans and Homo neandethalensis did not have air sacs, an experiment was set up using a
hearing procedure to show if air sacs reduce the perceptual effect of vowel articulations (de Boer
2012). The methods for this study were done by 22 human participants were gathered in a soundproof
room and have them listen to the different vowels produce through the air tubes with or without air

Child Vaccines For Children
INFANT AND CHILD VACCINES
When you are a parent, you can do anything to protect your child and keep them safe and healthy.
Vaccines is the vital way to do that. For neonates, mother s breast milk can help protect against many
diseases. It contains antibodies passed from the mother. However, this immunity wears off within a
year, and many children aren t breastfed to begin with. In both cases, vaccines can help protect babies
and small children from disease. They can also help prevent the spread of disease to older children and
adults. Vaccines emulate infection of a certain disease in your body. This boosts up your immune
system to develop weapons called antibodies. These antibodies fight against the disease that the
vaccine is meant to prevent.

In the beginning of the extract, the theme that is revealed is hunger, which is present throughout the

Harrington chews hungrily, he eats beef which is being described by his observer. This quote proves
Harrington is desperately hungry: before thrusting a large chunk into his mouth, a greasy trickle of
pink liquid ran down to his chin as he chewed hungrily . I think that the phrase a greasy trickle of pink
liquid is describing the meat which is disgusting, gross because of the colour pink and it could also be
described as slimy. Equally, the author uses the description Large chunk to describe the beef. He ate
that yet ignored the pink liquid, therefore he was quite hungry, especially because of the size which is

Cystochrome C Oxidase Lab Report
Intro When first learning about cells, students are told the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.
While this is true, most of the energy made actually comes from the electron transport chain that
occurs on the inner membrane of the mitochondria. A series of proteins are active in the electron
transport chain, but the fourth one, cytochrome c oxidase, is the one that is important for our purposes.
Cytochrome c oxidase is a large integral protein, that is made up of several subunits, some which
provide the target of aspirin (Norman, C., et al.). The subunits together have a very important role that
is universal though eukaryotic cells. Cytochrome c oxidase can reduce 250 molecules of O in a

The R^2 value is only 0.9411, indicating that this line is not close to a perfect fit, which is also seen
from the relationship of the data points to the line, but it is accurate enough to give something to go
off of. From here the true concentration could be calculated by working the calculations from the 40X
and 100X solutions to the pure sample. Once the true concentrations were known, the total protein in
the samples could be calculated. The results of the calculations are found in Table 1. By taking the
calculated total protein, and the average cytochrome c oxidase assay we are able to find the specific
activity of cytochrome c. A negative value in the cytochrome c oxidase assay was preferred, as that
indicated less color than the cytochrome c provided, and thus that cytochrome c oxidase was present
to react. All negative numbers were converted to positive numbers, and as there was no logical way
for a higher concentration of cytochrome c to occur, the samples that resulted in a positive result, were
determined to be a failure to detect the presence of cytochrome c oxidase. Samples 1, 3, and 4 did not
have any cytochrome c oxidase in them, and were therefore not capable of having a specific activity of
cytochrome c

Economic Consequences Of The Black Death

The devastating consequences of the Black Death, which was at its peak between 1346 and 1353, did
not cease after the period had ended. The Black Death caused the death of about a third of Europe s
population, with some places, such as Florence losing as much as two thirds of its population. With a
smaller population, Europe saw a short term rise in jobs available for peasants and, with labourers
needing to compete to keep the few workers they had, a subsequent rise in their wages. Further, for
many peasants and others who did not own land, living conditions improved, as with more housing

4. What is the principle of attachment ? Give two examples of how it functioned in the exploration of
the New World.
The principle of attachment, as first noted by the historian Anthony Pagden, is able to be identified in
many primary sources from the period of exploration. The principle of attachment occurs when a
known, understood and believed action is combined with an unknown action that is foreign to the
person employing it. This is often done in order to reconcile new actions, or places, with the person s
own beliefs. In the exploration of the New World, the principle of attachment occurred largely due to
the concept of otherness . This is because, the European view of native peoples as uncivilised, bestial,
and savage made the use of native techniques unlikely, even when the native methods appeared
effective. Instead, the steps in Pagden s principle of attachment were employed so that explorers could
thrive in a new land, while continuing to embody European ideals.

in return will create positive outcomes for both organization and the employees. (Batool Riaz, 2011) 3.
Fostering sense of purpose Roche and Sadowsky (2007) state that providing a meaningful purpose is a
powerful leadership tool, one that can transform a group and allow it to reach new heights of
accomplishment. If leaders are able to create commitment by instilling meaning to a job, then
employees will feel like they are making a difference and doing something that really matters, and that
might lead team members to feel like it s worth to find the solutions for their problems and to engage
in better relationships since their purpose is bigger than themselves. References Awad, S. S., Fagan, S.

How Did Andy Warhol Influence The Pop Art Culture
Andy Warhol, is one of the major influences of the Pop Art Culture. Everything started when he was
born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andy was a successful magazine and ad
illustrator who became an artist of the 1960s Pop art movements. He made made art based off a wide
variety of art forms. Some art forms included performance art, filmmaking, video installations and
writing, and blurred the lines between art and aesthetics. He was first recognized for his ability to give
a regular art form either a change in for or a different vibe by adding a different color scheme. For
example, he used the production of Campbell s soup commercial art to promote his vision and
interpretation of art. Art to Warhol was determined more by

1980s Women s Fashion Research Paper
1980s Women s Fashion
The unique fashion of the 1980s made an impression in its time in such a way that it continues to
make a mark in today s fashion. Historically, each decade comprises a specific style which identifies
the generation. Just by viewing a photograph, one can identify the decade of the persons photographed
just by the fashion being worn. Women s fashion in the 1980s was greatly influenced by an event that
was significant historically, politically, and socially providing popularity of women s fashion through
the lens of one of the most recognizable and admired woman in all time, Princess Diana.
An event that marked the world historically, politically, and socially was the wedding of Diana
Spencer to Charles Prince of Wales in 1981. The televised wedding was seen by over a billion T.V.
viewers worldwide ( Diana, Princess of Wales influence on fashion ). From that moment the princess
became an international figure, photographed and documented wherever she went, and she became a
global fashion icon ( Diana Princess of Wales Influence on Fashion ). As the world continued to

Her wedding dress became one of the most famous outfits in the world ( Princess Diana Biography ).
This was just the beginning of the effect the dress would have on fashion internationally. Princess
Diana s public appearances were photographed extensively allowing the public to observe her iconic
fashion and to duplicate her wardrobe. Recently, in July of 2105, People magazine did a story

Several weeks later, while Brett and Cohn are both traveling outside of Paris, one of Jake s friends, a
fellow American war veteran named Bill Gorton, arrives in Paris. Bill and Jake make plans to leave
for Spain to do some fishing and later attend the fiesta at Pamplona. Jake makes plans to meet Cohn
on the way to Pamplona. Jake runs into Brett, who has returned from San Sebastian; with her is Mike,
her fiancŠ£Š‰. They ask if they may join Jake in Spain, and he politely responds that they may. When
Mike leaves for a moment, Brett reveals to Jake that she and Cohn were in San Sebastian together. Bill

Cohn chooses to stay and wait for Brett. Bill and Jake travel to the Spanish countryside and check into
a small, rural inn. They spend five pleasant days fishing, drinking, and playing cards. Eventually, Jake
receives a letter from Mike. He writes that he and Brett will be arriving in Pamplona shortly. Jake and
Bill leave on a bus that afternoon to meet the couple. After arriving in Pamplona, Jake and Bill check

The Death Of A Car
Where u at. Those were the last words 18 year old Mariah West saw before her car struck a bridge and
spiraled into oncoming traffic. She was ejected from the car, and then slid down the roadway causing
her face to get disfigured and her skull to get crushed. Unfortunately, Mariah died on May 21st, 2009.
When you step into a car you don t expect anything life threatening to happen. Safety is taken for
granted as soon as one steps into an automobile. Most people in the world don t have a single doubt
about hopping in a car to get from Point A to Point B. Being a passenger or conducting a moving
vehicle is something that has become second nature to us. It has become somewhat normal that most
people developed habits meanwhile they are driving. In today s society we see people texting, talking
and dialing on their phone, consuming meals, applying make up and even reading a book. This just
amazes me, how people are capable of focusing on the road and at the same time juggle another
activity. The truth is no matter how much we say we can multitask, we really can t. Multitasking is
unfortunately just a myth and there are studies to prove it. A Neuroscientist at MIT named Earl Miller,
states that people are not multitasking; the brain is simply just deluding itself. Although it may seem
as if we are simultaneously doing a task, we are not. The reality of the situation is that we are
switching our focus between the errands very rapidly. So let s say an individual is talking on

  • 2. Security Versus Privacy Essay Security Versus Privacy As a result of 9/11, our country has been faced with a new issue: electronic privacy. The terrorists that attacked us used our own technology against us to protect their activities from our view. Because of this, we are now forced to make a decision between two desirable things: privacy and national security. On the one hand, our right to privacy will ensure that our personal rights are not violated, whereas, on the other hand, national security would allow us some comfort against the evil in the world. What are we supposed to do? This issue, however it is decided, will have tremendous impact on each and every one of our lives. The ruling that the government makes concerning this issue will greatly alter the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would eliminate the sheltering of illegal activities and allow increased, tighter surveillance of cyberspace. Another similar solution would be to give the government a back door into all areas of cyberspace. Basically, that would allow them to see whatever they want, whenever they want. Encryption technology would not have to be eliminated, but it would be required to include a government ?back door?, so that any encryption code can be quickly broken if the need arises. A writer for the Christian Science Monitor put it this way: ?people are willing to trade almost anything for increased security, if they think it would make a difference? (Grier). Overall, however, this position is held by very few people. The last solution is the one that is generally supported by those who favor the right of personal privacy. They propose that everything should remain as it is. There will be some minor adjustments to the current encryption technologies, but it will be allowed to exist free of any back doors or restrictions. In a debate of the new Anti Terrorism Bill, Senator Patrick Leahy stated that ?as Ben Franklin once observed, ?if we surrender our liberty in the name of security, we shall have neither?? (Leahy). The scent of popcorn overflows out of the concession stand and into the stands. Students paint each others skin until it is caked like glue. Many people that grew up in America can recall these descriptions with ease. A certain smell or feeling can often take people back to a vivid memory in life. In his short story In Football Season, John Updike uses various literary elements to illustrate his themes of reminiscing and the perception of time to take the narrator back to a time he remembers so eloquently, football season at his local high school. He creates a themes based on the perception of time and reminiscing on good times. He misses the time he had in high school on those friday nights. People often reminisce on memories in their past and realize that those beloved moments are long gone. This is put on display when Updike ends his story with Girls walk by me carrying their invisible bouquets from fields still steeped in grace, and i look up in the manner of one who follows with his eye the passage of a hearse, and remembers what pierces him (125). The invisible bouquets are his recollection of their fragrance wrapped in front of their arms(125). He then provides the metaphor of watching those thoughts disappearing like the passage of a hearse. His memories are dead and pass by him in the back of a hearse. Everyone experiences these same moments of reminisce. However, time seems to move in slow motion as he recalls his teenage years, a span of moments that appear to be endless. Now, tuning the corner into adulthood, we found time to be instead a black immensity endlessly supplied, like the wind (Updike 124). This is how the Narrator describes time as a fifteen year ... • 5. Summary Of Lewis Thomas On Societies As Organisms We, human beings feel distinctly unique, individual and most importantly, unmistakably superior due to our exclusive intelligence. This is why we, as a society, tend to look down on other types of life forms, insect or animal, as they do not possess that desired intellect. Yet, Lewis Thomas, in his opinion essay On Societies as Organisms , argues that human society has much to learn from the communal accomplishment of other life forms. The author effectively conveys this main idea through his use of analogy, enumeration of examples and through his level of language. To begin, Thomas astutely uses analogies to make parallels between human society and other life forms as to inform us of our deficiencies when contrasted with those other life forms. Thomas, first of all, defines an organism as being a live computer (233) composed of component parts (233), an accumulation of individuals communicating and working as one towards a common objective. Subsequently, the analogy of the organism is used to represent the ideal human society. Hence, when ants build their nest (233), the Hill (233), humans build their knowledge, accumulate a mountain of knowledge (235). However, what Thomas wants us to acknowledge is that human knowledge is a jigsaw puzzle in the sense that it is accumulated piece by piece, never all at once, never by a single individual (Ziman qtd. in ... • 8. Critically Assess The Concept Of Sustainable Development... Critically assess the concept of Sustainable Development The concept of sustainable development is generally understood in two similar but differing perspectives. The first of these is the social scientific definition explicated most frequently in relation to the 1987 report of the Brundtland commission.1 This report defines sustainable development as our ...ability to make development sustainable to ensure that it meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs 2. The second perspective of sustainable development is that of the ecological definition, which holds that it is a necessity to maintaining healthy, thriving ecosystems in order to facilitate concurrent healthy and thriving human societies.3 Thus both of these definitions are propounding a pragmatic normativity, albeit from slightly differing outlooks: the former concerned more with socio economic factors, and the latter more with environmental considerations.4 Although the term sustainable development was first coined within the Brundtland report,5 the concept of sustainable consumption is not a new one, with it s roots in historic forestry management practices.6 However, since the late 20th century the need for a sustainable form of development has increasingly becoming more and more evident. Advances in technology and increasing levels of global economic development coupled with a rapidly growing population levels has led to a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once the scientists thought that the population was getting to low the new pack was introduced. Once the new pack was introduced the other animal populations got more under control. The coyotes were brought back down to a manageable size which helped the other populations come back to normal range. This is a good sign because now the environment can go back to the way it should be and be lush again. Now that the wolf population is back to where it should be, other concerns have come into the topic. The grey wolf is a protected species that cannot be hunted in any way. This is causing problems with the locals. Many farmers feel that they need to protect their livestock by whatever means necessary. This mortgage type maintains a steady interest rate for the fifteen year term of the loan and requires the homebuyer to make equal monthly payments until the loan is amortized (Zillow.com, n.d.[b]). Because the term of this loan is short, the monthly mortgage payment will be higher than with a longer term loan as the principal must be paid off in a shorter amount of time. The interest rate associated with a mortgage varies by lending institution, homebuyer s credit score, loan term, location of home, among other variables (Geffner, 2009). The history of microteaching goes back to the early and mid 1960 s, when Dwight Allen and his colleagues (Bush, McDonald, Acheson and many more) from the Stanford University developed a training program aimed to improve verbal and nonverbal aspects of teacher s speech and general performance. According to D.W.Allan (1966), Micro teaching is a scaled down teaching encounter in class size and class time . Micro teaching enhances the presentation and reinforcement skills which further aid in real time teaching experience. During teaching in real classroom, it is not only a simple matter of transferring the knowledge from one to another. Actually it is a complex process that directly influences the process of learning. • 18. A Tale Of Two Cities Essay Capitol Punishment: Toy of Evil Men One might believe that because capital punishment plays such a large role in Charles Dickens A Tale Of Two Cities, that Dickens himself is a supporter of it. This just simply is not true. Dickens uses capitol punishment as a tool to define the evil embodied in both the French ruling class, and the opposing lower class during the French Revolution; as well as comment on the sheep like nature of humankind. In the beginning of the novel, capital punishment serves as the quot;cure all quot; for France s social problems. After all, quot;death is nature s remedy for all things, and why not legislation s? quot; (62). It is this attitude that ... Again Dickens uses capitol punishment as a way to show the reader the atrocities that humanity can create when consumed with hatred and evil. Dickens can be seen approaching the subject of the guillotine with cynical sarcasm when he writes, quot;it was the popular theme for jests; it was the best cure for headache, it infallibly prevented the hair from turning gray...who kissed La Guillotine looked through the little window and sneezed into the sack quot; (271). Just as with the Aristocrats, Dickens does not condone the Jacques use of capital punishment. His disdain is apparent in his tone; which gnaws away at any inkling the reader may have that the treatment of the prisoners is fair. Capital punishment is also used as a social commentary by showing how people cling to the popular attitudes and beliefs of the day. People are quick to adopt the guillotine as their new savior. Dickens articulates the common attitude towards this when he writes, quot;[the guillotine] was the sign of the regeneration of the human race. It superseded the cross quot; (271). These quot;followers of the guillotine quot; are ruthless in their quest for blood as they shout quot;Take off his head...an enemy to the republic! quot; (280). Walt whitman was a man that was born in New York, he knew what america came from. Whitman wrote a poem called I Hear America Singing. As new medical findings become disseminated present day practices are subject to amendment, exposing the inherent nature and complexity of the human body. This is particularly true in a health care setting where a top down processing approach is adopted to study and treat complex comorbidities. The problem is that, while health care professionals acknowledge the limitations of the traditional top down approach, they rarely appropriate the necessary time needed to respond to such constraints. This study intended to identify alternative methods of responding to disparities seen amongst athletes recovering from anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) by embracing the inherent nature and complexity of the human body. Rehabilitative care for an ACLR is invariably complex and delicate in nature. Inexperience, rapidly changing technologies and procedures, unpredictable psychosocial environments, and increasingly demanding training standards brings immense challenges for those health care professionals involved with returning an athlete to their pre injury level (Morrison Waltner Toews, (2010). Many factors have been found to affect the quality of recovery. However, it is generally assumed that each factor is mutually exclusive from each other (Duquin et. al., (2010). As a consequence, little is known about the strength and direction of association between each variable. • 25. Unions and Political Economy Union Articles Are union locals independent of employers or are they incorporated into the management of the workplace? Union locals are not incorporated into the management of the workplace. The most important objective of unions is to protect workers interests against management s interests. This is because, in most cases, the interests of managers and those of workers are very much different. Workers are interested in increasing their salaries, in reducing their volume of work, and in improving workplace conditions. Managers are interested in increasing profits while reducing investments. Therefore, negotiations must be made between the two parties. Workers must unite and select certain people that can represent their interests in these negotiations. This is how unions were developed. However, union locals are not independent of employers. This is because union members and their leaders are employees of the company in case. The quality of union members and leaders is added to the quality of employees, but this does not mean that union locals are independent of employers. The power of employees against their employers can significantly increase when they are union members. In addition to this, union leaders influence their members. Other games lacking in uniqueness are games based on movies or books. Most famous in this category are the Star Wars games and Lord of the Rings series. Both may be very fun to play, but being fun to play does not make them art. Art is original, fresh, never before thought of material. However, with a recent discovery of a dinosaur found with a fossilized heart in the northern part of South Dakota in 1993, many paleontologists are starting to think that there were some dinosaurs that were warm blooded. Dinosaurs were first believed to be cold blooded because they were thought to be related closely to reptiles which are cold blooded creatures. Cold blooded animals don t actually have cold blood, instead they rely on the temperature from their environment to regulate their own body temperature. Because warm blooded animals don t have to rely on their environment for body temperature, they are able to hunt at any time of the day or in any season, which is a great advantage over cold blooded animals. Therefore this type of intense activity needs a fast metabolism which is much too high for a cold blooded animal. Secondly, cold blooded animals have a hard time living in cold climates and dinosaur fossils have been found in the colder environments (Eschberger). However, scientists believe warm blooded animals would have suffered from the heat in warmer climates, where many fossils have been discovered. Beverly Eschberger discusses how dinosaurs must have been only warm blooded animals due to the factors of, bone structure, and histology, growth rates, predator to prey ratios, speed and agility, rate of evolution, similarities with birds, and insulation. She also explains the disadvantages of being a warm blooded animal: a much larger expenditure of energy to maintain elevated metabolism and a commensurate increase in food requirements (Eschberger). Just as the conclusion that dinosaurs were truly warm blooded becomes clearer, factors from the cold blooded side switch everything around. Gigantothermy, rate of food supply, respiratory turbinates and lung structure all cause scientists to believe dinosaurs were in fact cold blooded. While this is true, most of the energy made actually comes from the electron transport chain that occurs on the inner membrane of the mitochondria. A series of proteins are active in the electron transport chain, but the fourth one, cytochrome c oxidase, is the one that is important for our purposes. Cytochrome c oxidase is a large integral protein, that is made up of several subunits, some which provide the target of aspirin (Norman, C., et al.). Once the true concentrations were known, the total protein in the samples could be calculated. The results of the calculations are found in Table 1. By taking the calculated total protein, and the average cytochrome c oxidase assay we are able to find the specific activity of cytochrome c. A negative value in the cytochrome c oxidase assay was preferred, as that indicated less color than the cytochrome c provided, and thus that cytochrome c oxidase was present to react. All negative numbers were converted to positive numbers, and as there was no logical way for a higher concentration of cytochrome c to occur, the samples that resulted in a positive result, were determined to be a failure to detect the presence of cytochrome c oxidase. This is often done in order to reconcile new actions, or places, with the person s own beliefs. In the exploration of the New World, the principle of attachment occurred largely due to the concept of otherness . This is because, the European view of native peoples as uncivilised, bestial, and savage made the use of native techniques unlikely, even when the native methods appeared effective.
