Examples Of Father Son Relationship In The Book Night
Mclaughlin #1 The book Night shows that father son relationship means that you would give your
own life for someone, but it also shows how it can be twisted that you would kill a member of your
family for as much as a piece of bread. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel the author uses many
scenarios of father son relationship such as , when Elie tough his father to march at one of the
concentration camps. Another example of father son relationships is when Elie saved his dad from
being thrown out of a train. If he hadn t done that his dad would be thrown into a pile of dead people
when he was still alive. Lastly an example of father son relationships is when a child killed his father
for a piece of bread.

I threw myself on his body. He was cold. I slapped him . I rubbed his hands crying. And i started to hit
him harder and harder. At last, my father half opened his eyes (99). This is a great example of father
son relationship because it shows how he would risk his life for his dad. Also it shows how Elie
wouldn t let the SS officer throw his dad off the train because he was still alive and Elie loves his dad.
His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his ashen face. And this was immediately
extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him. And this shadow threw himself over him. Stunned
by the blows, the old man was crying : Meir, my little Meir Mclaughlin #3 Don t you recognize me...
you re killing your father... i have bread ... for you too... He collapsed. The old man mumbled
something, groaned ,and died (101). This is an example of father son relationship because things got
so bad he killed his father for a piece of bread. Also that the mindset of someone got so bad that he
would kill his own father. Lastly this child didn t care about his father enough so he killed him for

Wuthering Heights, The Book
The catalyst of this whole story was when Catherine got bitten by a dog at Thrushcross Grove and was
forced to remain there. She returned home to Wuthering Heights a changed woman. No longer the
mischievous little girl that loved to get in trouble with Heathcliff, she was a polite young lady
interested in Edgar Linton. There are three definite divisions in the book, before Heathcliff and
Catherine go to Thrushcross Grange, the time immediately after she returns, and life after she marries
Edgar.
The first recognized stage of this book took place as Catherine and Heathcliff grew up together. They
formed a tight bond only days after Heathcliff arrived at Wuthering Heights, much to the dismay of
Catherine s brother Hindley. Heathcliff found a way into both Catherine and Mr. Earnshaw s hearts, a
relationship that only grew stronger after the death of Mr. Earnshaw. It got to be that Hindley, his wife
Frances, and the staff at Wuthering Heights would purposefully keep the two young children separated
to lessen their shenanigans. One colorful story recounted by Nelly was when they were punished and
forced to read classical books. Both Heathcliff and Catherine refused to do as they were told and
disrespectfully threw the books to the ground. No matter how harsh their punishment was, as soon as
they were together they were once again plainning some other devious plot.
Everything changed that day that Heathcliff and Catherine ran off to spy on the weird kids at

Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Research Paper
Music means different things for different people, for me personally it means an escape from the real
world, from the things that weigh on my mind, from my daily struggles. Music has always been
something I ve always enjoyed and know the most about since I was a young. Music in general is
something I find interesting; the Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum is also what I believe to be a very
important part of the music world. The history of The Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum also plays an
important role in music. The Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum is in Cleveland Ohio, on the shore of
Lake Erie. The Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum was built with money raised by The Rock Roll Hall
of Fame foundation that was started in 1983. The foundation had not decided on a city to put the
Museum in. Above all the cities that had petitioned for the museum to be built there, it was Cleveland
that won with more than 600,000 signatures on the petition. Not only did Cleveland have a very big
fan support it is also the home of the radio man who came up with the phrase of Rock and Roll Alan

Community Health In Fresh Meadows In New York City
As a resident in Fresh Meadows for twenty years, conducting a community health assessment was an
opportunity to learn more about the neighborhood. Located in the northeastern section of New York s
Queens County, this small town was first named Flushing Meadows before the American Revolution.
This was due to large areas of wet meadows that were also partially located in Flushing. Nonetheless,
Fresh Meadows has become home to many with its diverse community in cultures and ages, and
activities for the local.
Community Overview

European Imperialism Created a Rift with the World
European Imperialism created a rift within the world. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as
well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the nations
which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans view on the
favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost
in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many mistreatments of indigenous
traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s imperialistic claim on the Congo,
and the European attempts at controlling China both exemplify the disaster of Imperialism on the
human condition, and the resistance created by the people.
Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and
arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide and
subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands desired.
Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their
improvement. (King Leopolds Ghost, 2) The European powers present at the Berlin Conference of
1884, all saw themselves as a higher state of society, one that possessed a god granted right to control
the lands and the people of the less civilized nations. King Leopold himself saw to obtain as much
land as he pleased by manipulating the other

Conflict In The Color Purple Celie
Love. Love is an amazing feeling to feel when it comes to relationships. Happiness, motivation, and
self confidence are three examples that love bring to us. When we get love from people it makes us
stronger. Not everyone has had the love that some of us get. For example, in The Color Purple celie,
the main character, has trouble loving herself because she s been abused by her father and her
husband. She says she s already dead inside since she has never felt the love from anyone. Alice
Walker uses conflict, symbolism, and irony to demonstrate how love affects us when we don t receive
it and why we shouldn t take it for granted.
To begin with, when people are married they should show their love to each other. Abusing shouldn t
happen at all because the couple love each other so much that they care if one of them gets hurt.
Conflict is shown when celie starts getting abused by her husband. She gets the belt and she turns
herself into a tree. He beat me like he beat the children. Cept he don t never hardly beat them. He say,
Celie, git the belt. The children be outside the room peeking through the cracks. It all I can do not to
cry. I make myself wood. I say to myself, Celie, you a tree. That s how come I know trees fear man

people the motivation to keep on with life. When deprived of love, it can make people feel like Celie
did, feeling apathetic. Most certainly isn t a pleasant feeling to experience. Therefore, Alice Walker

It s Hard Short Story
It s hard. This city. I live in a tough city in a tough world, and that makes it hard.
Sometimes I love it here. Sometimes New York is life on the brink. It s people struggling to survive,
their will alone carrying them through. It s energy and intensity, and everything taken to extremes.
Sometimes it s the cliché of the dirt and suffering, the grey isolation that inspires and sparks
creativi¬ty.
But there are times when it is none of that. Times when all I see are empty shells running as fast as
they can from point A to point B with no time or inclination to pause a moment along the way. They
are too busy making it, buying it, having it, looking like it, to see those that they bump into, run over,
or miss entirely. There are times when it is a wasteland of heart¬less, spiritless bodies who can t see
beyond the end of their noses, and their blinders have been on so long they don t even notice them
anymore. What s more, if you pointed it out to them, tried to show them everything they ve been
missing, they d look at you like you had just fallen out of the sky.

Racial Profiling by Police is Not Justified Essay
Even the United States struggles with issues of racial discrimination despite being a society highly
based on immigrants and multicultural diversity. On one hand, people frown on treatment based on
race, whether that is on an individual or group level. On the other, people are tired and annoyed by the
seemingly constant call of discrimination. All of these feelings culminate into the debate pertaining to
the use of racial profiling. Likewise, there are some individuals that hold a certain level of acceptance
in regard to racial profiling. However, what is lost in the process because of that acceptance? There are
many components that need to be thought about in reference to the use of racial profiling. In addition,

In relation to the debate of racial profiling, Taylor and Whitney define racial profiling as the practice
of questioning blacks in disproportionate numbers in expectation that they are more likely than people
of other races to be criminals (Taylor Whitney, 2002). Statistics show that African Americans and
Hispanics commit more crime than Caucasians, with 90% of the 1.7 million interracial crimes
stemming from the hands of African American men. Even looking at these numbers, does that make it
okay for the police to arrest and interrogate these racial minorities at such a high frequency? Where
are these statistics coming from? How accurate are they? Does the media provide a skewed analysis of
these findings? These are the types of questions that need to be addressed in regard to evaluating the
validity of racial profiling.
The annual National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) has been the primary method for gathering
data and providing these staggering statistics. The NCVS provides information gathered from the
victim, which includes information on crimes that went unreported to the police. The Uniform Crime
Report (UCR) is also a valid reference for gathering crime information within the United States. The
UCR only has information regarding crimes that were reported to the police, as well as arrests. Both
forums are used by the FBI. In addition, researchers use this information for their research. Even

Is College Really Free Essay
Is anything in life really free? If college is free, what is the point of trying to work hard and to try to
go above beyond? Free tuition colleges could make college seem less important (Lobosco). It would
make it seem less important because if a student fail one year the student will not have to pay for the
next year or the year after that. The students could just keep failing. The reasons behind why college
tuition should not be free is because of how taxes would be raised, how it would still not be
completely free, and how scholarships can help make it free. First of all, it is not actually free
someone has to pay for it. If there were did have free tuition colleges, the state and federal government
would have to make a few changes. The changes could include raising taxes, decreasing military
budget, closing tax loopholes, increasing taxes more for the wealthy, new taxes on speculative Wall

For example, Ireland lowered its corporate tax rate to 12.5%, which got the economy booming. The
country s gross domestic product rate grew at a rate of around 26.3%. Ireland s low corporate tax rate
attracted successful foreign companies to invest in Ireland. For example, American companies such as
Microsoft, Google, and Apple all have subsidiaries in Ireland to take advantage of Ireland s low
corporate tax rate (Semeuls). However, the low corporate tax rate was not the only reason the country
had flourished. There were several other factors that helped boost Ireland s economy. One of them
included Ireland joining the European market in the 1990s, which allowed goods to flow freely across
the countries in the European Union. Soon, Ireland became an entry point within Europe and large
corporations started to use Ireland to manufacture goods and sell the goods to other European
countries without the attachment of any tariffs. In addition to Ireland joining the European market,
Ireland attracted many corporations to its country because it was primarily an English speaking
country. This helped in the ease of communication between the Irish government and the foreign
corporations. Another factor that helped boost Ireland s overall economy was that the Irish
government passed a number of educational reforms which led to a significant number of educated
graduates that came out of Irish schools (Semeuls). In the 1990s and 2000s, Ireland became a highly
attractive country for international companies because it acted as an easy trade center within the
European Single Market. Therefore, the low corporate tax rates was not the only reason Ireland s
economy boomed, but also a combination of factors, which was very specific to the country of Ireland
and that could not be copied by other countries, all came together to

Personal Leadership Application Essay Examples
A requirement for leadership and strategic ability began early for me. As Commanding Officer of a
Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program, I was in charge of organizing over
1,000 annual community service hours and oversaw a group of 120 high school students. With a
former Parris Island Drill Instructor in charge of the program, I was not only expected to define the
program s success, but was also held accountable whenever that success did not come to fruition.
Throughout this experience, I refined what it meant to lead others and acquired tools for doing so. The
natural progression in my personal strategy was to become a career United States Marine Corps
Officer, retire from the military, and volunteer for youth organizations.
This perfect plan came to a drastic end when one thing was discovered. College military commanders

My academic knowledge and leadership experiences culminated in the formation of a youth camp.
Approached with a problem by a Pennsylvania State Trooper, my solution was to found a new

The Perils Of Indifference By Elie Wiesel Essay
Elie Wiesel s speech The Perils of Indifference is a mind opening and emotional speech that prompts
the audience to change the indifference that plagues America and many people in this time and age.
He expresses to the audience that indifference is the reason appalling and horrifying events, such as
the Holocaust, occur and why no one takes immediate actions to help the victims. To get his point
across, Wiesel uses his own history and experiences so that the audience can visualize the Holocaust
through the eyes of a survivor and to project the feelings of hopelessness and defeat that the victims
felt when no one came to end the injustice. In this critique, Elie Wiesel s rhetorical speech of
indifference will show its effectiveness through testimony, emotion, and rhetorical questions; this
speech accomplished its goal and without a doubt persuaded most of the audience to call out for
change in indifference. The Holocaust is widely known as one of the most horrendous and disturbing
events in history that the world has seen; over six million lives were lost, in fact the total number of
deceased during the Holocaust has never been determined. The footage of concentration camps and
gas chambers left the world in utter shock, but photos and retellings of the events cannot compare to
being a victim of the Holocaust and living through the horror that the rest of the world regarded in the
safety of their homes. Elie Wiesel recognized the indifference that the

Essay about Should Marijuana Be Legalized in the United...
The topic of legalizing recreational marijuana in the United States has been a very controversial one.
States such as Colorado and Washington have gone on the offensive and have legalized recreational
marijuana and have enjoyed the high revenues brought in from cannabis sale. On the other hand other
states have kept low profiles because they are wary of the possible negative outcomes of legalizing
recreational marijuana and are using the states of Colorado and Washington as guinea pigs to see what
their next course of action on this controversial topic should be. This is not only a highly debated topic
among politicians, but also by the people. According to a poll conducted by the Pew Research Center,

Meanwhile marijuana has not accounted for a single death in the United States. This has led many
teenagers to switch over to marijuana and by legalizing it the switch to a safer drug would continue
and it would also make it cheaper than other illicit drugs. This correlation can be seen by the statistics
provided by the NIDA (National Institute of Drug Abuse) 2011 study. About 25% of teens surveyed
said they tried marijuana at least once last year, a statistically significant rise of about 4% since 2007.
Additionally, 6.6% of 12th graders also admitted to smoking weed daily (Gwynne). The study has also
shown historic lows of use of alcohol and cigarettes since 1981.Over the past 20 years, from 1991 to
2011, the proportion of 8th graders reporting any use of alcohol in the prior 30 days has fallen by
about half (from 25% to 13%), among 10th graders by more than one third (from 43% to 27%), and
among 12th graders by about one fourth (from 54% to 40%), (Gwynne). As teenagers will always
continue to experiment with illegal substances, its best we influence them with the safest drug,
marijuana. This change is already happening as NIDA studies have shown teenager marijuana use at
historic highs and alcohol and cigarette use at historic lows, and will continue if marijuana is
perceived as safe and becomes cheaper with

Physician-Assisted Suicide Essay
Is the role of a medical professional to ensure the well being of their patients, or to assist them in
ending their lives? Many people may believe that physicians would never perform the latter, but in
actuality one practice does so. Physician assisted suicide is the intentional ending of one s life brought
on by lethal substances prescribed by a doctor. In the majority of cases, the patient is terminally ill and
simply does not desire to live any longer. Their physician provides the medication necessary to end
their life. Many supporters aver that this practice is merely an act of compassion as terminally ill
persons may suffer extreme pain that eradicates any will to live. They also assert that the decision to
die is of the patient s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Joe Messerli, Assisting in suicides would be a violation of that oath, and it would lead to
a weakening of doctor patient trust (3). If doctors violate the oath, especially the above stated portions,
patients may be inclined to question what other standards of medicine are being breached. Assisted
suicides contravene medical ethics, as evidenced by the multiple violations of the Hippocratic Oath.
Furthermore, the practice of assisted suicide has a significant possibility of being abused. Assisted
suicides are designed to allow those who are seriously ill and suffer from extreme pain to easily end
their lives (Braddock and Tenelli 1). Those who lack support from members of their family or friends
may feel worthless and hence may desire to end their lives (Pretzer 2). If the patient has no loved ones
to confide to and receive support from, they may feel as if no one cares and therefore no reason to live
exists. Since assisted suicides are unregulated, doctors may allow patients wishing to die for
subordinate reasons, such as the one previously stated, instead of suffering reasons to commit suicide.
Moreover, Patients who want to die for psychological or emotional reasons could convince doctors to
help them end their lives (Messerli 3). As stated before, assisted suicides are not meant to allow those
with emotional or mental problems to end their lives. If someone has such problems, they should

Theories Of Aging
Why do people age? Over the ages people have wondered how do we age? Do our genes determine
our lifespan? Does damage to our DNA affect how long we live? There have been many theories
answering that one question and few are right and some still have to be proven. People aging isn t
magical, aging is scientific. Chemistry is behind aging.
The first theory is that we live as long as we do because our genes determine how long we live. This
means that we have a gene that tells our body how long we have to live. If this is true we could change
that gene and live longer than predetermined. For example that gene is a timer that is counting down,
imagine you could add time to the timer prolonging the time left. Different animals have proven this
theory to work. A type of worm can to 300 years old, which could support the first theory that genes
determine your lifespan.
The second theory is that over time our body and DNA receive damage until the point when our body
will not function anymore. This theory states that how long we live ... Show more content on

which have a strong tendency to link to other molecules messing up their functions. They are

Linkage Theory states that the aging of living organisms is due to the formation of bridges between
protein molecules in the DNA, which cannot be broken by enzymes that interferes in the production of
RNA by DNA. Can be caused by metabolism. The Brain Hypothesis refers to the aging is caused by a

The Importance of Sharing Religious Rituals in the Home...
The Importance of Sharing Religious Rituals in the Home for Jewish Families
The home is central to Judaism as it is the setting in which a husband and wife mature together and
where children are taught about their religion through example and direct instruction. Both Orthodox
and Liberal Jews will share rituals as a family at home but will not share the same attitudes and degree
of discipline. This can lead to different behaviour.
Sharing rituals in the home can bring a family closer together because they are spending time together
and are unified by their faith. The Shabbat meal can bring the family together because the family are
sharing the Challot and teaching and learning about their faith. ... Show more content on

However, Shabbat may not strengthen a Jewish family but instead cause tension. This may be brought
about by some family members, especially children and teenagers, not wanting to follow the Shabbat
laws if they feel excluded from their friends. They may also resent the repetitiveness of the celebrating
Shabbat every week. If the mother in a Jewish family grew to resent having to make such extensive
preparations every week, this too could cause tension.
Sharing this type of family ritual could become monotonous if performed weekly and I think I would
come to feel anger towards my parents if they made me take part every week and stopped me from
going out. On the other hand, spending time with your family may mean that you would get on better
together and as I grew older I might come to appreciate their discipline towards these religious rituals.
At Pesach, when Jews celebrate the Exodus from Egypt, the escape from slavery and the goodness of
God for providing for them, all the family help with the preparations. The family remove all the
chamez (leavened bread) from the house and make it into a game by hiding the pieces of bread. They
also prepare the food for the Sedar meal and clean the house. During the Sedar meal, questions such as

A mnemonic device is a technique a person can use to help them improve their ability to remember
something. It would be considered a memory technique to help your brain better encode and recall
important information used daily and plenty often. A common mnemonic for remembering lists is to
create an easily remembered acronym also known as the mnemonic, or taking each of the initial letters
of the listed members, and help create a memorable phrase, in which some words with the acronym as
the material. Anyone and everyone can create their own mnemonic to help aid their memory or
memorization of a novel material in which we used most often. A mnemonic device is a tool to help
remember facts or a large amount of information. This can include making a song, a rhyme, an
acronym, an image, or a phrase to help remember a list of facts and important data or information in a

Lord Of The Flies, By John Milton Essay
While reading the epic, Paradise Lost, by John Milton, something came to my mind: Lord of the Flies.
There were similarities between these two readings, almost like Lord of the Flies is a biblical allegory
to Paradise Lost. I was discovering biblical allusions in the novel Lord of the Flies, something I didn t
discover when I read the novel three years ago, Many debates between critics have been made about
Lord of the Flies being a biblical allegory due to its substantial amount of allusions to Judeo Christian
Theology. After a lot of thought, and re reading the book, Lord of the Flies can be a biblical allegory
to the epic Paradise Lost, because of its major themes: Loss of innocence, fall of mankind, and along
with its various biblical allusions. Both readings express these themes because Lord of the Flies is a
biblical allegory to Paradise Lost. Many critics have expressed their opinions on whether Paradise
Lost is a major literary influence to Lord of the flies. An analysis reading written by E.C Bufkin states,
A second major literary influence on Lord of the Flies, an influence that no critic has noted before,
despite its almost glaring presence, is Paradise Lost. The epic and the novel have a common theme,
the Fall of Man; and it is altogether feasible that Golding, in paralleling in Lord of the Flies situations
highly similar to those in Paradise Lost, meant to enrich and to enlarge, by associative suggestion, the
scope of his narrative. I stand with this

Beast of the Southern Wild
The story within the film Beast of the Southern Wild can give the viewer a lot of knowledge of the
culture they lived in and why the characters acted how they did in several scenes compared to what
individuals from other cultures would have done. The film can be believed to happen in recent times,
mostly based on the vehicles which people drove and the medical equipment they had in the refugee
camp, possibly pre Katrina, in a location called The Bathtub , but if the film was written to take place
of a real location, it could be believed to be towards the coast of Louisiana. The main characters were
Hushpuppy (daughter) and Wink (father). The film told a story of a young girl who was in search of
her mother, but in reality it was her journey to learn to be free and along the way, find the courage to
stand up for herself against her fears, with much of that influence being taught by her father, through
the means of being tough to her, tough love as many would say He knew he wouldn t be around much
longer and was preparing her for the world once he wasn t around to protect her. Those moments were
seen such as when Wink shouted at the rain, though drunk, attempted to show Hushpuppy there was
nothing to be afriad of from the rain. Many moments were also seen of Wink restricting Hushpuppy
and other characters from cry, there was never any time to cry, even when she had to confront the
beast face to face or when he was at the point of his death (Zeitlin). The film gave

3.4 SSSC Controller
The controller for the SSSC can be isolated, generally, into two main controllers, namely internal and
external controllers. The main function of the internal controller is to give the control signal to drive
the gate pattern generator of the power converter keeping in mind to generate a fundamental output
voltage waveform with the desired magnitude and phase angle in synchronism with the ac power
system. The function of the external controller, if exists, is to alter the reference signals which decides
the practical operation of the SSSC so as to accomplish the desired system performance. The block
diagram of the SSSC controller is represented in Figure 3.13.
A measurement block is utilized to get the vital variables to be handled in the control procedure. The
computation of the infused reactance is accomplished by separating the infused voltage by the line
current (rms values). The computed infused reactance is then contrasted with the altered reference
reactance (the sum of the reference reactance

And Setting In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
What if you could own a room, a room where whatever you thought took form? It would, of course,
not be real. But it would smell real, look real, and feel real. Would this be a room you would want?
Ray Bradbury, an author, tells of such a story using many different writing techniques. Ray Bradbury
uses setting, conflict, and foreshadowing to manipulate the plot of the story The veldt and make it
more interesting. Setting is an important part to any story whether it be fictional, sci fi ,romance, or
any story for that matter. But setting is more than just a place and a time. Setting is also how the
author saturates the story with mood and meaning. The setting for The Veldt is in a Happylife home,
where all actions are performed for them by machines. Tying shoes, cooking, all things are done for
them by machines. While this may sound like a pretty good place to live, it does have it s
shortcomings. It would give you no work ethic for starters. But in The Veldt the conflict only
surrounds the mechanical home to an extent. The conflict more pertains to a room in the known only
to the reader by the nursery . It is essentially a room where whatever you imagine comes to fruition.
The children in the story, or what the reader may deem the antagonists, have dreamt up a room of
Africa. Not the fun Africa with festivals and hotels either. The africa with lions that kill and a blazing
hot sun. This sort of setting puts across that the children in the story are very upset and are

Behavioral Matrix And Classroom Behavior
Part 1: Behavioral Matrix
A behavioral matrix creates the expectations for student behavior in the classroom and school campus.
A school wide behavioral matrix lists the school wide expectations for various times, location and
transitions. Classroom teacher specific to that classroom creates a classroom behavioral matrix. Both
school wide behavioral matrix and classroom matrix should contain the rules that are listed in the
school wide expectations. These rules and expectations are displayed as a matrix, which is posted in
classrooms, gym, cafeteria, hallway, and bus. According to Knoff (2007), behavioral matrix sets the
behavioral expectations expectation within specific settings and contexts for students and hold them
accountable. Table 1 reflects dangerous behavioral problems categorized in the Level IV as explained
in the 2015 16 Fort Wayne Community Schools Code of Conduct. Part 3 integrates all the results of

Parallels Between the United States of America and Canada
There are many parallel between the United States of America and Canada. For instance they were
both former possessions of the British crown, they speak mostly English, and they both had to deal
with Native Americans. But one important difference is how they treated their native population
during Western expansion. The Americans treated the Natives Americans like they were below them.
The made treaties with the natives only to ultimately break them, the engaged in open war with the
natives, and generally didn t respect them. While, in direct contrast, the Canadians honored treaties,
generally did not engage in war with the natives, and respected them as individuals. According to

Another important factor during Western expansion was the role of the American sheriff. This person
was responsible for upholding the law and keeping order. The sheriff was sometimes elected but more
often than not he was put into place by the elite who were in charge of the local municipality. This
often led to incompetence and corruption. Consequently, this meant that Indian relations suffered.
Indians were not treated with the respect that they deserved, and were often taken advantage of. On
the other side of the 49th parallel this was a vastly different story. In Canada the North West Mounted
Police, a British tradition, and former Indian relations seemed to be the major reasons that the Indians
were treated differently. The North West Mounted Police, or the Mounties, had a similar role to that of
the American Sheriff. They were in charge of maintaining law and order, but they were also
responsible in maintain the border between the United States and Canada. This was a physical
geographic border, but also a border, or different identity, between what it meant to be Canadian and
what it meant to be American. A big portion of this was the way that the Mounties treated the Indian
population. The respected the Indians as humans. Meaning that they honored formally signed treaties
made with the Indians, and treated the Indians with respect; not as pawns in the way of Manifest
Destiny. But they also asserted Canadian law

Urban Sprawl Analysis
Approaching an unknown frontier, I was suddenly surrounded by sprawling foliage and vast forestry.
In the midst of towering trees, I walked down a dirt path longing to find my individuality. The rustling

layers of fresh algae and marsh. The surface does not budge like a Venus flytrap, mouth open waiting
for its next victim. However, the most interesting thought is the peace and quietness that is so long

I scan the timber and bog for new signs of life like a curious birdwatcher wading through the depths of

universe, yet so important. Following the ideologies of Thoreau, one must look at an object indirectly
or through one s peripheral vision to fully understand and contextualize the presence of its being. The
dragonflies glide through the air like a flying squirrel prancing from tree to tree. With an unmistakable
arrogance, they strive to fulfil their symbiotic role in nature and play their part in an unforgiving
environment. Like many of us who are constantly striving to find ourself in today s world, the
dragonfly plays an important role. With eyesight as good as as a ravaging eagle hunting for its prey, a
dragonfly s carnivorous appetite rids the environment of mosquitoes as well as aphids, a type of tiny

Analysis Of The Planets By Gustav Theodore Holst
Gustav Theodore Holst was born on September 21st, 1874 and died on May 25th, 1934 he was an
English composer and teacher. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became
famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had
seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planets but had no
connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the
God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns,
timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five
beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the
Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific,
insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast
tempo throughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the
movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an
end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms,
the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military
essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was not the same in the end it somehow
slightly changed. Gustav creates

  • 2. Examples Of Father Son Relationship In The Book Night Mclaughlin #1 The book Night shows that father son relationship means that you would give your own life for someone, but it also shows how it can be twisted that you would kill a member of your family for as much as a piece of bread. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel the author uses many scenarios of father son relationship such as , when Elie tough his father to march at one of the concentration camps. Another example of father son relationships is when Elie saved his dad from being thrown out of a train. If he hadn t done that his dad would be thrown into a pile of dead people when he was still alive. Lastly an example of father son relationships is when a child killed his father for a piece of bread. When Elie s father was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I threw myself on his body. He was cold. I slapped him . I rubbed his hands crying. And i started to hit him harder and harder. At last, my father half opened his eyes (99). This is a great example of father son relationship because it shows how he would risk his life for his dad. Also it shows how Elie wouldn t let the SS officer throw his dad off the train because he was still alive and Elie loves his dad. His eyes lit up, a smile, like a grimace, illuminated his ashen face. And this was immediately extinguished. A shadow had lain down beside him. And this shadow threw himself over him. Stunned by the blows, the old man was crying : Meir, my little Meir Mclaughlin #3 Don t you recognize me... you re killing your father... i have bread ... for you too... He collapsed. The old man mumbled something, groaned ,and died (101). This is an example of father son relationship because things got so bad he killed his father for a piece of bread. • 3. Wuthering Heights, The Book The catalyst of this whole story was when Catherine got bitten by a dog at Thrushcross Grove and was forced to remain there. She returned home to Wuthering Heights a changed woman. No longer the mischievous little girl that loved to get in trouble with Heathcliff, she was a polite young lady interested in Edgar Linton. There are three definite divisions in the book, before Heathcliff and Catherine go to Thrushcross Grange, the time immediately after she returns, and life after she marries Edgar. The first recognized stage of this book took place as Catherine and Heathcliff grew up together. They formed a tight bond only days after Heathcliff arrived at Wuthering Heights, much to the dismay of Catherine s brother Hindley. Heathcliff found a way into both Catherine and Mr. Earnshaw s hearts, a relationship that only grew stronger after the death of Mr. Earnshaw. It got to be that Hindley, his wife Frances, and the staff at Wuthering Heights would purposefully keep the two young children separated to lessen their shenanigans. One colorful story recounted by Nelly was when they were punished and forced to read classical books. Both Heathcliff and Catherine refused to do as they were told and disrespectfully threw the books to the ground. No matter how harsh their punishment was, as soon as they were together they were once again plainning some other devious plot. Everything changed that day that Heathcliff and Catherine ran off to spy on the weird kids at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Research Paper Music means different things for different people, for me personally it means an escape from the real world, from the things that weigh on my mind, from my daily struggles. Music has always been something I ve always enjoyed and know the most about since I was a young. Music in general is something I find interesting; the Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum is also what I believe to be a very important part of the music world. The history of The Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum also plays an important role in music. The Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum is in Cleveland Ohio, on the shore of Lake Erie. The Rock Roll Hall of Fame Museum was built with money raised by The Rock Roll Hall of Fame foundation that was started in 1983. The foundation had not decided on a city to put the Museum in. Above all the cities that had petitioned for the museum to be built there, it was Cleveland that won with more than 600,000 signatures on the petition. • 7. European Imperialism Created a Rift with the World European Imperialism created a rift within the world. European powers saw the use of Imperialism, as well justified and a mean of spreading their influence and securing their strength. However the nations which found themselves under rule of an imperialistic power did not share the Europeans view on the favors they were giving. European nations saw themselves fit to divide the uncivilized world, almost in a pie like manner, to be placed under their reign. With this came many mistreatments of indigenous traditions and the people themselves. King Leopold the Second s imperialistic claim on the Congo, and the European attempts at controlling China both exemplify the disaster of Imperialism on the human condition, and the resistance created by the people. Both Africa and Qing China saw itself under the hungry eye of European powers. Meeting and arrangements were created, without the native s knowledge, by European power to subdivide and subjugate these lands for their own purposes, disregarding what the people of these lands desired. Despotism is a legitimate mode of government in dealing with barbarians, provided the end be their improvement. (King Leopolds Ghost, 2) The European powers present at the Berlin Conference of 1884, all saw themselves as a higher state of society, one that possessed a god granted right to control the lands and the people of the less civilized nations. King Leopold himself saw to obtain as much land as he pleased by manipulating the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Conflict In The Color Purple Celie Love. Love is an amazing feeling to feel when it comes to relationships. Happiness, motivation, and self confidence are three examples that love bring to us. When we get love from people it makes us stronger. Not everyone has had the love that some of us get. For example, in The Color Purple celie, the main character, has trouble loving herself because she s been abused by her father and her husband. She says she s already dead inside since she has never felt the love from anyone. Alice Walker uses conflict, symbolism, and irony to demonstrate how love affects us when we don t receive it and why we shouldn t take it for granted. To begin with, when people are married they should show their love to each other. Abusing shouldn t happen at all because the couple love each other so much that they care if one of them gets hurt. Conflict is shown when celie starts getting abused by her husband. She gets the belt and she turns herself into a tree. He beat me like he beat the children. Cept he don t never hardly beat them. He say, Celie, git the belt. The children be outside the room peeking through the cracks. It all I can do not to cry. I make myself wood. I say to myself, Celie, you a tree. It s people struggling to survive, their will alone carrying them through. It s energy and intensity, and everything taken to extremes. Sometimes it s the cliché of the dirt and suffering, the grey isolation that inspires and sparks creativi¬ty. But there are times when it is none of that. Many spider babies come out of the sac, but three of them stay and become friends with Wilbur. In the end, Wilbur comes to the conclusion that Charlotte has a special place in his heart that none of her babies, or grandbabies will ever be able to fill. Don Marquis was the man who gave him the idea for Charlotte s Web (Levin 432). White described this book, about a spider who saves a pig s life by helping make it a tourist attraction (Love 370). It was so popular, White said it had kept me alive, been my bread and butter (Love 370). There are many symbols that can be found in the book. • 16. Racial Profiling by Police is Not Justified Essay Even the United States struggles with issues of racial discrimination despite being a society highly based on immigrants and multicultural diversity. On one hand, people frown on treatment based on race, whether that is on an individual or group level. On the other, people are tired and annoyed by the seemingly constant call of discrimination. All of these feelings culminate into the debate pertaining to the use of racial profiling. Likewise, there are some individuals that hold a certain level of acceptance in regard to racial profiling. However, what is lost in the process because of that acceptance? There are many components that need to be thought about in reference to the use of racial profiling. In addition, it can be viewed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In relation to the debate of racial profiling, Taylor and Whitney define racial profiling as the practice of questioning blacks in disproportionate numbers in expectation that they are more likely than people of other races to be criminals (Taylor Whitney, 2002). Statistics show that African Americans and Hispanics commit more crime than Caucasians, with 90% of the 1.7 million interracial crimes stemming from the hands of African American men. Even looking at these numbers, does that make it okay for the police to arrest and interrogate these racial minorities at such a high frequency? Where are these statistics coming from? How accurate are they? Does the media provide a skewed analysis of these findings? These are the types of questions that need to be addressed in regard to evaluating the validity of racial profiling. The annual National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) has been the primary method for gathering data and providing these staggering statistics. The NCVS provides information gathered from the victim, which includes information on crimes that went unreported to the police. The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) is also a valid reference for gathering crime information within the United States. The UCR only has information regarding crimes that were reported to the police, as well as arrests. Both forums are used by the FBI. In addition, researchers use this information for their research. Free tuition colleges could make college seem less important (Lobosco). It would make it seem less important because if a student fail one year the student will not have to pay for the next year or the year after that. The students could just keep failing. The reasons behind why college tuition should not be free is because of how taxes would be raised, how it would still not be completely free, and how scholarships can help make it free. First of all, it is not actually free someone has to pay for it. If there were did have free tuition colleges, the state and federal government would have to make a few changes. For example, American companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple all have subsidiaries in Ireland to take advantage of Ireland s low corporate tax rate (Semeuls). However, the low corporate tax rate was not the only reason the country had flourished. There were several other factors that helped boost Ireland s economy. One of them included Ireland joining the European market in the 1990s, which allowed goods to flow freely across the countries in the European Union. Soon, Ireland became an entry point within Europe and large corporations started to use Ireland to manufacture goods and sell the goods to other European countries without the attachment of any tariffs. In addition to Ireland joining the European market, Ireland attracted many corporations to its country because it was primarily an English speaking country. This helped in the ease of communication between the Irish government and the foreign corporations. Another factor that helped boost Ireland s overall economy was that the Irish government passed a number of educational reforms which led to a significant number of educated graduates that came out of Irish schools (Semeuls). In the 1990s and 2000s, Ireland became a highly attractive country for international companies because it acted as an easy trade center within the European Single Market. The Perils Of Indifference By Elie Wiesel Essay Elie Wiesel s speech The Perils of Indifference is a mind opening and emotional speech that prompts the audience to change the indifference that plagues America and many people in this time and age. He expresses to the audience that indifference is the reason appalling and horrifying events, such as the Holocaust, occur and why no one takes immediate actions to help the victims. To get his point across, Wiesel uses his own history and experiences so that the audience can visualize the Holocaust through the eyes of a survivor and to project the feelings of hopelessness and defeat that the victims felt when no one came to end the injustice. In this critique, Elie Wiesel s rhetorical speech of indifference will show its effectiveness through testimony, emotion, and rhetorical questions; this speech accomplished its goal and without a doubt persuaded most of the audience to call out for change in indifference. The Holocaust is widely known as one of the most horrendous and disturbing events in history that the world has seen; over six million lives were lost, in fact the total number of deceased during the Holocaust has never been determined. According to Joe Messerli, Assisting in suicides would be a violation of that oath, and it would lead to a weakening of doctor patient trust (3). If doctors violate the oath, especially the above stated portions, patients may be inclined to question what other standards of medicine are being breached. Assisted suicides contravene medical ethics, as evidenced by the multiple violations of the Hippocratic Oath. Furthermore, the practice of assisted suicide has a significant possibility of being abused. Assisted suicides are designed to allow those who are seriously ill and suffer from extreme pain to easily end their lives (Braddock and Tenelli 1). Those who lack support from members of their family or friends may feel worthless and hence may desire to end their lives (Pretzer 2). If the patient has no loved ones to confide to and receive support from, they may feel as if no one cares and therefore no reason to live exists. Since assisted suicides are unregulated, doctors may allow patients wishing to die for subordinate reasons, such as the one previously stated, instead of suffering reasons to commit suicide. Moreover, Patients who want to die for psychological or emotional reasons could convince doctors to help them end their lives (Messerli 3). There have been many theories answering that one question and few are right and some still have to be proven. People aging isn t magical, aging is scientific. Chemistry is behind aging. The first theory is that we live as long as we do because our genes determine how long we live. This means that we have a gene that tells our body how long we have to live. If this is true we could change that gene and live longer than predetermined. For example that gene is a timer that is counting down, imagine you could add time to the timer prolonging the time left. Different animals have proven this theory to work. A type of worm can to 300 years old, which could support the first theory that genes determine your lifespan. If the mother in a Jewish family grew to resent having to make such extensive preparations every week, this too could cause tension. I was discovering biblical allusions in the novel Lord of the Flies, something I didn t discover when I read the novel three years ago, Many debates between critics have been made about Lord of the Flies being a biblical allegory due to its substantial amount of allusions to Judeo Christian Theology. Ray Bradbury uses setting, conflict, and foreshadowing to manipulate the plot of the story The veldt and make it more interesting. Setting is an important part to any story whether it be fictional, sci fi ,romance, or any story for that matter. But setting is more than just a place and a time. Setting is also how the author saturates the story with mood and meaning. The setting for The Veldt is in a Happylife home, where all actions are performed for them by machines. Tying shoes, cooking, all things are done for them by machines. While this may sound like a pretty good place to live, it does have it s shortcomings. It would give you no work ethic for starters. The sheriff was sometimes elected but more often than not he was put into place by the elite who were in charge of the local municipality. This often led to incompetence and corruption. Consequently, this meant that Indian relations suffered. Indians were not treated with the respect that they deserved, and were often taken advantage of. On the other side of the 49th parallel this was a vastly different story. In Canada the North West Mounted Police, a British tradition, and former Indian relations seemed to be the major reasons that the Indians were treated differently. The North West Mounted Police, or the Mounties, had a similar role to that of the American Sheriff. They were in charge of maintaining law and order, but they were also responsible in maintain the border between the United States and Canada. This was a physical geographic border, but also a border, or different identity, between what it meant to be Canadian and what it meant to be American. A big portion of this was the way that the Mounties treated the Indian population. The respected the Indians as humans. Meaning that they honored formally signed treaties made with the Indians, and treated the Indians with respect; not as pawns in the way of Manifest Destiny. But they also asserted Canadian law ... • 37. Urban Sprawl Analysis Approaching an unknown frontier, I was suddenly surrounded by sprawling foliage and vast forestry. In the midst of towering trees, I walked down a dirt path longing to find my individuality. The rustling of leaves warned predators of my oncoming approach. I reached the swampland, filled with new layers of fresh algae and marsh. The surface does not budge like a Venus flytrap, mouth open waiting for its next victim. However, the most interesting thought is the peace and quietness that is so long forgotten in today s urban sprawl of the twenty first century. With the constant rushing of one place to another, one forgets the elegance that comes with the solitude of being in one s own company. The buzzing of dragonflies and mosquitoes awoke me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I scan the timber and bog for new signs of life like a curious birdwatcher wading through the depths of the Amazon. My curiosity is suddenly sparked by a cluster of dragonflies. They are just a speck in the universe, yet so important. Following the ideologies of Thoreau, one must look at an object indirectly or through one s peripheral vision to fully understand and contextualize the presence of its being. The dragonflies glide through the air like a flying squirrel prancing from tree to tree. With an unmistakable arrogance, they strive to fulfil their symbiotic role in nature and play their part in an unforgiving environment. Like many of us who are constantly striving to find ourself in today s world, the dragonfly plays an important role. With eyesight as good as as a ravaging eagle hunting for its prey, a dragonfly s carnivorous appetite rids the environment of mosquitoes as well as aphids, a type of tiny insect that destroys crops. This insect, which may seem negligible to some, greatly impacts our daily lives in more ways than some can even envision. This relationship sets off a complex domino effect and you never know which side you will end up on. Nor will you realize that the individual impact you will have on others depends on the decisions you make throughout your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Analysis Of The Planets By Gustav Theodore Holst Gustav Theodore Holst was born on September 21st, 1874 and died on May 25th, 1934 he was an English composer and teacher. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planets but had no connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns, timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific, insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast tempo throughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms, the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was not the same in the end it somehow slightly changed. Gustav creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
