Society s Impact On Wealth And Elite Social Status
Increase in wealth during the post agriculture period impacted elite social status greatly. Elite social
status was a great deal to the wealth people in this era. They would do everything in their power to
ensure that their social status was unharmed. The wealth made the wealthier individual s feel higher
and separated from the common people. The increase in wealth allowed room for elite to make rules
that were to be governed in sexual relationships. It was so important to pass on the elite social status
and wealth that it became codified as written laws for the elite. Wealth impacted the elite because it
controlled who they could marry in order to pass on the social status. The most acceptable form of a
relationship that would form into a marriage in an elite social status would be a relationship between a
man and a woman, both coming from elite families. The wealth would then be able to be passed down,
which exemplifies the impact wealth had on the elite social status. Elite men that formed relationships
with a non elite woman would only be viewed her as a mistress for sexual pleasure. A elite woman and
a non elite man would cause shame to be brought upon her family and the man could possibly be
murdered for his actions. There were exceptions where a wealth family would adopt non elite males
and raise them to be elite. (McKay, Pg. 26) Wealth impacted elite social status because most
inheritance is left to male heirs, but in desperate efforts to keep wealth within their

Foils in Othello
The Foils of Othello One of William Shakespeare s many attributes as a playwright of the late 16th
century was his character development. Shakespeare s seamless use of indirect characterization sets
his works apart from the other playwrights and authors of his time. In Othello, the Shakespearian
tragedy about the newlywed Othello and Desdemona, Shakespeare uses character foils to emphasize
the strengths and weaknesses of the characters. By making inwardly similar characters seem like polar
opposites, Shakespeare truly shows how dynamic each of the characters is. Othello, the play s
protagonist, is the most dynamic character of them all due to the fact that he is a complete foil of
himself by the final act of the play. In the second act ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Iago and Desdemona rarely interact throughout the play there are used to show how evil or
good the other is.
Desdemona was also a foil to the person she interacted with the most in the play; her husband,
Othello. Othello and his newlywed Desdemona become opposites toward the end of the play. The
main couple of the play is very different from each other which is easily seen by the audience because
of how they interact with one another. Othello was filled with hate for Desdemona because he
believed she had cuckolded him, and Desdemona never stopped loving him even though he accused
her of things she did not do. Desdemona asks Emilia That there be women do abuse their husbands In
such gross kind? (4.3) showing how truly innocent she is and when Emilia asks if she would cheat on
Othello she is appalled at the idea. Desdemona would never cheat on the husband she works tirelessly
to please. In this instance Desdemona does not only prove her innocence, but she also shows that she
is virtually incorruptible making her different from her easily corruptible Othello. Iago only had to
show Othello a little evidence for him to become corrupted with jealousy. It was not Othello s fault
that he was corruptible, but he was very quick to build hate for his wife, but slow to believe her pleas
of innocence. The reason for this is related to the time in which the story

Doctor Paddock And Doctor Medaris
Doctor Paddack versus Doctor Medaris
At most colleges it is important for there to be superior professors. Students prefer to choose
professors who have strong teaching styles and who will help them succeed in college. They may have
the same degree or other similarities. However, most professors often have differences between each
other. This is true for the professors at Manhattan Christian College, specifically Doctor Paddock and
Doctor Medaris. Although Doctor Paddock and Doctor Medaris have unique similarities, they share
obvious differences. These differences include measurement of knowledge, interaction with students,
and presentation of material.

He instead assigns forums, chapter questions, and readings. Doctor Medaris likes for students to have
detailed and thorough responses. The questions from both the forum and the readings are generally
asking about the student s personal leadership role or about their past. As an illustration, he assigned
the questions; What is one of the most challenging changes you have had to make in your life? How
did you handle this change? What have you learned about yourself through this change? Questions
like these, allow the students to think through and process what it is that they believe about leadership
and why. These questions often bring up past memories of either being in leadership or being under
another person s leadership and their effect on the student.
At Manhattan Christian College, they utilize an online system, MCC Online This is an excellent tool
for professors and students to communicate by handling assignments, checking grades, and reviewing
notes. Doctor Paddock and Doctor Medaris consistently interact with their students on MCC Online,
although they use it differently. In this case, Doctor Medaris has students submit their forums and
assigned questions through MCC Online. While on the other hand, Doctor Paddock has students take
the quizzes and tests through this tool and he posts the notes from his lectures after each class. Another
way professors stay interacted with their students is during scheduled class

Essay on Life of Pi (Unabridged) by Yann Martel
The son of a zookeeper, Pi Patel has an encyclopedic knowledge of animal behavior and a fervent love
of stories. When Pi is sixteen, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese
cargo ship, along with their zoo animals bound for new homes. The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone
in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450
pound Bengal tiger. Soon the tiger has dispatched all but Pi, whose fear, knowledge, and cunning
allow him to coexist with Richard Parker for 227 days while lost at sea. When they finally reach the
coast of Mexico, Richard Parker flees to the jungle, never to be seen again. The Japanese authorities
that interrogate Pi refuse to believe his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If he makes it to land, Pi wonders whether to tell the truth about his harrowing adventure or make up
something more comfortable for the authorities. This novel centers on young Pi Patel, an Indian boy
whose family owns a zoo in Pondicherry, India, but decides to move to Canada when he is 16. They
manage to sell many of the animals, some of which are also bound for Canada or the United States;
they are all aboard the same Japanese cargo ship the Tsimtsum. As soon as the boat reaches the open
Pacific, it sinks. Pi manages to get aboard a lifeboat, and then discovers he shares it with a wounded
zebra, an orangutan, a hyena, and a Bengal tiger. Soon only the tiger is left, and Pi does not want to be
the next meal. So his job is to act as zookeeper, catching enough fish and gathering enough fresh water
to feed both the tiger and himself, as well as establishing separate territories for himself and the tiger.
And then there is the long, slow drift across the ocean. It is not giving away anything to say that Pi and
the tiger, named Richard Parker make it to Mexico, this is given to the readers at the end of part one so
that they focus on the story as opposed to worrying themselves sick with the suspense of whether they
will survive or not. It took 227 days, a truly amazing feat of survival. The tiger is Pi s suffering, his
burden in life. We all have such a bundle that we carry around, and we are very much in danger of

Foreign Policy And Decision Making Simulation
Brief for General McMaster On behalf of the State Department I was involved in an Israeli foreign
policy and decision making simulation where members were to agree upon various minimal peace
terms and implementations. This brief for General H. R. McMaster will provide the most thorough
analysis of the outcomes from this simulation to provide the best suggestions for the United States
involvement in the Israeli Palestinian conflict. The opening remarks by Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu were that the ministers must agree in consensus or the proposition shall not pass, the
cabinet must decide on their most minimal peace terms, and at the conclusion of deliberations all
ministers must agree or resign. (February 27 Minutes) Netanyahu met ... Show more content on

infrastructure in the West Bank and will enable a policy of hot pursuit and establish security control
over all areas not annexed if Palestine oversteps their confinements. (March 6 Minutes)
Section Two: Key Dynamics and Players Involved
Upon arrival on February 27th, Yoav Galant, Minister of Construction, stressed the utmost importance
of eliminating the housing crisis in Israel. Galant offered the proposal of Mordot Arnona where there
would be 2000 new housing units that will aid growing populations inside the new territory added to
Jerusalem. (Powerpoint for Ministry of Construction, February 27 Minutes) This suggestion worried
the Minister of Internal Security, Gilad Erdan, because of its capability to threaten the security of
Israel. Galant s reasoning behind this proposal is the expansion of housing in Jerusalem. The
neighborhood will allow for the continuation of growth and development, providing for the housing
demand. With this implemented, it will strengthen Jerusalem as the capital. The lack of housing is one
of the highest concerns for Galant. On the basis of needing 250,000 houses due to a shortage of
housing, there was a 75% increase in housing costs from 2008 2015. Galant proposed the annexation
of areas E1 and Ma ale Adumim located East of Jerusalem in order to create more space to distribute
housing. Over

Examples Of Mystery In The Godfather

Chapter III
Development of Mystery through Plot Construction
Mystery plays an integral part in a crime fiction. It is the expertise of the author upon which the
intensity of the mystery running through the lines depends upon. It is this element of mystery that
builds up the tension in the course of the fiction. That is the major factor that holds the readers to the
text. The gradual progression of the novel ultimately reconciling the pent up tension solves the
mystery. The Godfather builds up an atmosphere of mystery since the very opening lines of the novel.

Where was Luca Brasi? (107) He was being called several number of times only to find the call going

treachery for which he has chosen self exile to hide from the Don and his men. Finally in the Chapter
VII, the mystery of Luca Brasi is gradually being revealed. He was being sent by the Don to meet
Bruno Tattaglia from the Tattaglia Family to get more information regarding Sollozzo s proceedings.
Bruno told Brasi that he wanted him to meet a friend of his. Luca Brasi was in confusion regarding
who it can be. Secrecy enhances the mystery for which Bruno told him that they will be meeting each
other after the bar closes at 4 A.M. Luca thought once to inform the Don regarding this meeting but
postponed his plan as the Don does not like to speak over the phone and Don has asked to keep this
assignment as a secret from Hagen as well as his sons. Luca Brasi could sense that something wrong is
going to happen. He took precautions against any mishandling of his body for which he wore a
bulletproof vest before leaving to Bruno and Sollozzo. When he went there he was being offered with
a drink that he refused to drink that sensing something wrong might

Leadership And Leadership Practices And Expectations
There was research set up in the early 1980 s to determine what it takes to become an
effective leader. The researchers wanted to know how ordinary men and women practiced their
skills while they were in leadership. The analysis consisted of surveys that covered thousands of
cases over a few years. The research revealed consistent leadership practices and expectations.
Research has shown that leadership can be learned, and there are ten basic lessons on what it

Therefore,
there is a possibility that there are leadership qualities in everyone, and a belief that ordinary
people can perform extraordinary to make sure that things get done. The person just has to
believe in his or her abilities and have the confidence in them and themselves. When developing
leadership you have to remove the barriers that are self imposed or placed by others.
Leadership can be an emotional process. It requires a lot of dedication and sacrifice to
bring a dream to reality. People will not follow a leader who they feel is unsure of themselves or
their abilities. To be a good leader, you should have your mind focused on the task at hand.
I read an online article about the director, Ava Du Vernay. She was the director of the

our culture. If you are a storyteller, you want to be a part of that.
Embracing diversity and complexity is an increasingly important part of leadership.

The Effects Of Violent Video Games On Aggressive Behavior
The Effects of Violent Video Games on Aggressive Behavior: Potential Sex Differences study that was
conducted by Bruce D. Bartholow, of University of Missouri Columbia, and Craig A. Anderson, of
Iowa State University, examined how playing a violent video game affected levels of aggression
displayed in a laboratory setting. Recently, violent behavior in children and teenagers has gained more
and more attention as video games have become more popular. The study mentions that, in contrast to
Eastern cultures, Western culture believes that people are responsible for their own individual
behaviors. In modern times, after school shootings, reports indicate or lead toward that the shooters
were viewed as loners or outsiders within the student body.
With evidence has piled up in regard to children being exposed to violent media through television or
video games, political figures and policy makes have started to examine the influences that this media
plays in promoting aggressive behavior. Researchers for this study tried to understand if video games
effect males and females in similar ways and how that related to the theory of violence creating
violence. As stated previously, the theory being tested is that if violent media content increases the
likelihood for aggressive behavior, and if that varies depending on the gender of the person in
question.
Researchers for this study hypothesized that participants who played the violent video game would
later display more aggression

Progressivism Vs Populism Essay
Progressivism was a partial extension of the Populist movement, and many Populist ideals framed the
headwork for the Progressive Age.Many other influences that drove the populist movement effected
policies of progressive age. During the Gilded Age, a new political party emerged named the Populist
party, fighting for the silver standard and many indebted farmers. In the Populist Platform of 1892
they presented many ideas that would carried off into the new century that will be utilized to form the
Progressive age. The Progressive movement started with the middle class status anxieties, because as

Mudra. There are large numbers of Mudra, but here are five most commonly used Mudras: Dhyana
Mudra, Bhumisparsa Mudra, Varada Mudra, Abhaya Mudra, and Dharmachakra Mudra. When the
Buddha rests both hands with the palms facing upwards on his lap, it is called Dhyana Mudra,
meaning gesture of meditation. The right hand is on top of the left hand and both thumbs are joined.
Joining the two thumbs is of special significance since the nerve channel associated with the mind of
enlightenment is said to pass through the thumbs (Buddhist studies, 1995). The gesture of the right

position of the left hand symbolizes meditation, and the right hand is point the earth and calling the
earth Goddess to bear witness. This gesture represents the Buddha s overcoming of hindrances during
meditation, and symbolizes enlightenment as well as steadfastness. When the left hand rests in the
same way on the lap and the right hand is resting on the knee with the palm facing outwards, the
gesture is called Varada Mudra, the gesture of bestowal of supreme accomplishment or charity. The

Islam, Islam And The Beliefs Of Islam
Religion is the belief of a God, or Gods, and there are many different types of religion. Each religion
has different systems of worship and believes in some different things. Even though every religion is a
little different, sometimes they have some things in common also. Islam is a religion that believes in
one, eternal God, named Allah. The word of Allah is spoken from the angel named Gabriel, to
Muhammad. Muhammad is the founder of the Islamic religion. He was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia,
which is where the religion was founded, and he died in the year 632 A.D. Islam was founded in the
beginning of the seventh century. Like stated earlier, Muslims believe in one God. They also believe in
the angels, who are respected creatures, they believe in God s revealed books, including the Quran,
they believe in the Prophets and Messengers of God, where Muhammad was the last Prophet sent by
God, they believe in the Day of Judgement, which is when everybody will be resurrected based on
their beliefs and achievements, and they believe in Al Qadar, where God gives people free will.
Practicing and worshipping in this religion, has some rules, or standard guidelines, for everyday lifes.
These are called the Five Pillars of Faith. These include, Shahadah, Salah, Zakah, Sawm, and Hajj. To
start off with, Shahadah is the assertion of belief. It s when the people of the Islamic religion indicate
that there is only one God, and that Muhammad is his prophet. Next, Salah is the routine

Pros and Cons of the Equal Rights Amendment Essay
Pros and Cons of the Equal Rights Amendment
The Equal Rights Amendment began its earliest discussions in 1920. These discussions took place
immediately after two thirds of the states approved women s suffrage. The nineteenth century was
intertwined with several feminist movements such as abortion, temperance, birth control and equality.
Many lobbyists and political education groups formed in these times. One such organization is the
Eagle Forum, who claims to lead the pro family movement. On the opposite side of the coin is The
National Organization for Women, or NOW, which takes action to better the position of women in
society. Feminism is the most powerful force for change in our time. The Equal Rights Amendment

Some supporters say that because women s salaries still lag behind men, we need an Equal Rights
Amendment more than ever (Hennessey 3). The real issue, claim some supporters, is the right to
bodily integrity, and without this basic right, women can have no true freedom (NOW 2). Legal sex
discrimination is not a thing of the past, and the progress of the last forty years is not irreversible
without the protection of an amendment (Francis 1).Feminist claim that The ERA s most valuable
effect would be the psychological victory it would provide women (Steiner 35). Women are underpaid
in the workforce, required to pay higher insurance premiums and are half as likely as men to get

Let s Continue The Half Of The Book
OK. Let s continue the latter half of the book. In chapter five, the authors provide two examples to
illustrate their framework. I am so thankful for this chapter. I learned so much about civil right
movement and the mortgage crisis in 2008. And I also got confused so many times by the terms they
use when talking about the mortgage crisis. Anyway, let s begin. In chapter five, the authors say that
they want to identify the strategic action fields, the main actors, and the changes of meanings in the
crises. In the first example, they state that the national racial policy field was a system of fields which
was supported by the strategic action fields of Democratic Party, Republican Party, and the cotton
economy in the south before 1930s. Then the exogenous shocks, the great depression and the cold war,
destabilized the peaceful fields. After the shocks, the environment became vulnerable and led the
Montgomery movement nationalize to a national movement. And finally, the movement ended and the
new settlement established because of several internal or external reasons. Also, the movement had
impacts on other strategic action fields like new movements or new regulatory agencies.
And here is my first question, I would like to know if you think the authors apply their framework
well in this example. And I am also curious about where did they show the social skills of the actors in
this example. I saw a lot of the overlapping strategic action fields, federal governments, and civil

The Movie Franchise Star Wars
The movie franchise star wars has been around for over fifty years. It s a classic drama series about
dark and light forces trying to get the best of one another. The Jedi and the Sith are both factions
which use the essences of the universe in order to obtain their special abilities that they use to their
advantage. The force is split between the Jedi who represent the light force, and the Sith who represent
the dark force. So which of the two, light or dark, is the better as seen in the star wars storylines. The
Jedi seem to have the upper hand and here are some reasons why. The Jedi and Sith both use
Lightsabers(Short swords made with laser energy) when fighting enemies or dueling with one another.
They give them both huge advantages in battle, because they can use the force to detect where things
will be before they happen. When they are attacked with a blaster or lightsaber, the laser it is deflected
off of the blade. This also makes for some really spectacular duels between the two.
So which of the two has the better lightsaber? Lightsabers are formed from special crystals which the
Jedi or Sith have to meditate on for weeks on end until it can form a blade. The Sith made the their
sabers with synthetic crystals that they had to put into a furnace whereas the Jedi used a special natural
growing crystal found on Dantooine, Ilum, or the Adega System. When the blades are finally
constructed, they have a certain color which corresponds to their personality. The Sith

The Mind Of The Brain
SUMMARY
The brain is possibly the most fascinating thing in this entire world. It controls and creates our
realities. The brain functions through three different mind levels conscious, subconscious, and
unconscious. The idea of three levels of mind was introduced by an Austrian psychologist, Sigmund
Freud. He used an Iceberg as an analogy to describe each level in the brain.( Appendix #) The tip of
the Iceberg is the conscious level and it represents about 10% of the brain s capacity. Humans spend
more time living their day to day lives using the conscious mind. Next level is the subconscious and it

Essay about A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah
Hope enables people to move on by providing the thought that maybe tomorrow s events will be better

later lost when Ishmael is recruited by the army to fight against the rebels, causing him to become
addicted to drugs and the thrill of killing. Three years after his recruitment, Ishmael is rescued by

family s ashes, Ishmael is enraged not hopeless. Ishmael s hope is alive, but shrinking as Gasemu

thought it was because you were happy all the time. Your mother said you even smiled when you
slept. But when you started your troublesomeness and were angry, your forehead glowed even
more...And here you are, it isn t shining anymore, (Beah 92). Ishmael s forehead did not glow because
he was mad or sad or embarrassed or happy. Ishmael s forehead glowed because he was passionate
and hopeful. The angrier he got when he was younger, the more his forehead glowed seeing as he

Queer Representation Of All Ages Media Essay
Queer Representation in All Ages Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s
and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media
I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in
hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something
negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected
exactly how homosexuality was portrayed in media at the time. Queer characters and homosexuality
were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst,
something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly watches reads comics,
watches Saturday morning cartoons and plays video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of
progress that has been made in queer representation in all ages media. In this paper I hope to detail the
highs and lows of LGBTQ representation in all ages media and highlight the impact of media
representation. Before celebrating the strides of queer representation in all ages media, it is important
to look back at queer representation in the past. The late film scholar Vito Russo painstakingly
researched the evolution of queer representation in cinema in his landmark book The Celluloid Closet.
In both the book and the documentary based of the book, Russo details the

Film Contributions of the Sixties Essay
Film Contributions of the Sixties Beginning roughly with the release of Stanley Kubrick s Dr.
Strangelove: Or How I Stopped Worrying and Loved the Bomb in 1964, and continuing for about the
next decade, the Sixties era of filmmaking made many lasting impressions on the motion picture
industry. Although editing and pacing styles varied greatly from Martin Scorcesse s hyperactive pace,
to Kubrick s slow methodical pace, there were many uniform contributions made by some of the era s
seminal directors. In particular, the Sixties saw the return of the auteur, as people like Francis Ford
Coppola and Stanley Kubrick wrote and directed their own screenplays, while Woody Allen wrote,
directed and starred in his own films. Kubrick, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These sequences are a result of a film, which for most of its run time does not presented the subjective
vision of any one character. In stylistic and visual terms, there is a movement from the three
dimensional style of the film s first half to the flatter, more abstract visual style of the Star Gate
sequence. The film s movement towards abstraction can be understood both in visual and narrative
terms (Falsetto, 115).
2001 s presentation of details from the Dawn of Man sequence, to later space travel scenes are shot
with complete conviction and impeccable detail. The viewer believes that the world might have
actually looked like what Kubrick presented it as, several million years ago, and the depiction of space
travel is just as convincing. The use of models, front projection, the slow editing techniques and
camera work all help to create a more complete illusion (Falsetto, 141).
If 2001 was presented almost completely objectively, than Kubrick s next film, A Clockwork Orange
(1972) was presented almost completely subjectively. This may have been in part due to the
constraints of the original novel by William Burgess, but nonetheless the film is told from the point of
view of its central character, Alex. When Alex is not speaking on camera, he can often be heard as a

Decision Of Philadelphia The Constitutional Convention Of...
In the book Decision in Philadelphia the Constitutional Convention of 1787 by Christopher Collier
and James Collier present an exclusive glance at the creating of the Constitution and the events that
made the Constitution the way people know it today. Christopher and James Collier begin with
historical events that led up to Constitutional creation and a brief summation of the events that were
taking place in the country during that time frame. The background that they give provides a good
base for the information and allows the reader to see things through the eyes of someone living in the
time. During that period, there were many challenges facing America at the time that would have
collision on the constitutional convention and the outcomes that would shape the country. One of them
being that there was very poor transportation routes and that adversely affected communications. For
example the authors quote The few interstate roads that existed were frequently nothing more than
mile upon mile of mud wallow, cut by hundreds of streams, creeks, and rivers, most of which were
unbridged, so they had to be forded, or crossed by ferry (Collier, 1986, p.14). As a result, due to a lack
of this foundation it was very challenging and time consuming for the citizens with travel and
communication and diversity was usually unfamiliar to people. At the time people also faced
challenges such as the country was divided by religion, ethics, language differences, and majorly

Biomagnification In Australia
It is known worldwide that Australia is home to many rich and vibrant marine ecosystems, however,
this could all soon be over. A silent killer is on our shores and is taking over many marine ecosystems
at a rapid rate. What is this silent killer you ask? Well it s none other than the process of
biomagnification! Now you may all be wondering what this actually is and why it is causing all of this
panic? Biomagnification is simply the increasing concentration of a substance, such as chemicals, in
the tissues of organisms at higher level within a food chain(R. K. Mehra, 2001, pp. 5335 5338).
Biomagnification occurs because the chemical is absorbed faster than it can be used or the organism
cannot break it for use (M. Barwick, 2003, pp. 471 502). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rain washes the pesticides that are used in our Australians households and then become run off in
drains and sewers. They then make their way into nearby water bodies, wether that be creeks, rivers or
even oceans and settle within the soil by sticking to small particles, including tiny living organisms
like phytoplankton (M. Barwick, 2003, pp. 471 502). Small fish consume these tiny organisms, which
may then be eaten by a larger organism and this continues until the top order consumer is reached. The
concentration that first began in the phytoplankton and has multiplied sufficiently as it moves along
the food chain. The amount of the pesticide has reached a highly toxic level in the top order predator,
whether that is birds or even humans. As a result of the biomagnification of pesticides and other
chemical the marine environment and the organisms that live within it are heavily affected. The build
up of heavy metals, for example, it interferes with the formation of red blood cells, creates liver and
kidney implications and forms reproductive defects in many organisms. This hinders an organism s
ability to survive and reproduce and can create a decline in species

Essay Steps For Buying A Car
About a year and a half ago I found myself in the market for a car. I had moved from Baltimore to
Austin car less. In Texas, I found it to be extremely difficult to get around without a car. This brought
me to the purchase of a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The five steps in the decision making process needed to
decide what to do in my situation includes; 1) Problem recognition, 2)Information search,
3)Evaluation of alternatives, 4)Product choice, and 5)Post purchase evaluation. I was tired of the poor
mass transportation in Texas, a car would give me more freedom and time. I needed a car! During my
information search, I asked my friends in Austin (Rebekah and Dan) why they chose the cars they
have. We looked online at car maker websites ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What am I thinking? etc. After this purchase though I had a very positive post purchase evaluation. I
would be lying if I said I was worried about the money, but this was a realistic need. I found myself
looking out the window to look at the car. I would even go outside to get a better look at my car. I
found myself offering to run errands for people just so I can take my car for a drive. I was exceedingly
happy with my purchase. There were many internal influences in the decision making process of my
purchase. Perception: I was under the perception that Toyota made high quality, reliable, long lasting,
low maintenance automobiles. Motivation: I wanted to buy a car so that I could attain more freedom
and stop relying on others (mass transportation, friends, or family). A car could get me to work, I
could run errands, spend time out by myself, etc. The old Corollas were not very attractive to me.
Learning: I had learned however that the car was redesigned in 2004 and became a much more
attractive car with updated styling. This ruled out however buying a Corolla in 2003 or earlier. By the
time I was ready to buy, I could not find a 2004 that fit my criteria. Personality: I guess my personality
assisted in the selection of the car to buy as well. I like to try new things but I also find comfort in the
known. I am not a very sociable person. I tend to look at practicality over flashy for the most part. I
also prefer to hold off on buying

Similarities Between Classical Greece And Rome
Ancient Classical Greece and Ancient Rome
When thinking of great empires that once existed it s natural that Ancient Rome and Greece come to
mind. They were both very accomplished with an abundance of theories and devices that impacted the
world. The empires were greatly influenced by each other. The Romans adopted many ideas from The
Greeks, but they also had different variations of each, such as their government, art, and religion.
The ancient Greek and Roman civilizations both had a well organized political process that greatly
influenced the governments yet to come in their countries and other parts of the world such as the

Some differences were decided on the location of the countries, in Greece they divided themselves
into smaller cities and functioned on many smaller levels rather than one grand conjunction, still

In Rome they weren t as separated due to lack of geographical disturbances, so rather than adopting
many small cities, they acted as a whole.
The art in Rome was considered inferior to the art in Greece being considered fakes or replicas of their
art. The Greeks were striving for perfection in their art while the Romans were striving for real life
people. The statues made in Greece were made with perfect people in mind often modeled after gods
and goddesses, while the statues in Rome have all the faults a real person would have.
Although both Greece and Rome believed in polytheism and they shared the same gods, Rome
addressed them by different names. The Classical Greek gods such as Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades. In
Rome the names of those gods, in order, would be Neptune, Jupiter, and Pluto. The Greeks
worshipped the poet, hence their amazing mythology, the Roman worshipped the warrior hence all the

no law that clearly states that a foreign tongue must be taught, so it is up to each county, state, and

Research shows that foreign learners have better listening skills and sharper memories than their
monolingual peers (qtd. in NEA Research 3). As the students learn the new vocabulary and grammar
rules of a new language, they develop better memories and good skills that are very useful in later life
when they have more responsibilities in their lives. The monolingual people will be at a disadvantage
when it comes to succeeding in life. Being articulate in foreign tongues can bridge the gap between
cultures, contribute to international diplomacy [and] promote... world peace (Indian River High

communication between them. The two cultures can then understand problems more easily and
resolve them quicker. Also, knowing another language can help countries speak out their needs and
other countries to be more aware of them and make them more able to help. All people are aware that
children are the future of the world, and in order to make good leaders out of these children, we need
to instill a sense of helping others. A way to do this is to give an understanding of other cultures to

Trans Fat Research Paper
The infamous trans fatty acids, or trans fats are in the news once again. The Food and Drug
Administration recently banned these all from manufactured foods and gave all manufacturing
companies three years to accomplish this goal.
This is a definite win for the health of Americans, because trans fats have been proven to raise bad
cholesterol, known as LDL, and lower good cholesterol, known as HDL. These are the factors that
contribute to the risk of developing heart disease, as well as Type 2 diabetes.

they eat. One way to improve your health is to keep food as close to their original state as possible. ...

These trans fats are made when hydrogen is added to a liquid oil molecule, turning the liquid oil into a
solid. Trans fats are very inexpensive to make, but are very unnatural and bad for our health.
CHECK FOOD LABELS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
The people who take their health and diet into consideration tend to check the food labels and go with
products that say 0 grams of trans fat per serving . However this doesn t mean that there s zero grams
of trans fat in the product. Manufacturing companies that produce food containing less than .5 grams
of trans fat can and do round that number down to zero to advertise that it has zero grams of trans fat.
ABOUT TWO GRAMS OF TRANS FATS PER DAY IS FINE
If you would like to avoid trans fats altogether, then the American Heart Association suggest that if
your diet is based on the 2,000 daily model, that you should have less than two grams of trans fats per
day. To make sure that you are aware of the amount of trans fats that you are eating, you can read the
food labels to tell you.
Certain terms can also be used instead of trans fats:

Literary Analysis Of The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
Cormac McCarthy s The Road is his post apocalyptic magnus opus which combines a riveting plot
along with an unconventional prose style. Released in 2006, the novel has won awards such as the
Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award (Wilson). Oprah Winfrey also selected the
book for her book club ( Cormac McCarthy ). The author, Cormac McCarthy, was born in 1933 in
Rhode Island and is said to have wrote the novel because of his son and their relationship. The Road
centers around a boy and his father while they try to survive after an unknown disaster occurs. While
some people may argue that the unusual style takes away from the novel, it adds to the tone and
meaning of the work.
The Road takes place in post apocalyptic America after an unknown disaster occurs. The novel centers
around a boy and his father, both of whom are never given names. In an analepse, the reader learns
that the mother of the boy kills herself with a flake of obsidian as she fears that she would be raped
and murdered (McCarthy 30). [The man] hadn t kept a calendar for years and the reader is left unsure
what year or month it is (McCarthy 2). The man is sure, however, that winter is approaching and it
would be best for him and the boy to travel south where it is warmer. They have nothing but a pistol,
their clothes, and a cart with food they scavenged for. The world is barren with dust and ash
everywhere (McCarthy 3). The story chronicles the man and boy s journey to the south while they
look for food, supplies, and shelter. The pair must fend off bad guys during their journey as well
(McCarthy 39). When one of these bad guys puts his knife at the boy s throat, the man is left with no
other option than to shoot the bad guy leaving a hole in his forehead (McCarthy 34). Another
gruesome event occurs when the man and boy are looking for food in a house they found. While
walking down a cellar s stairs, they smell an ungodly stench (McCarthy 56). In the cellar, there are
naked people who are whispering help us and a maimed man on a mattress with his legs gone to the
hip and the stumps of them blackened and burnt (McCarthy 56). These people are being kept to be
eaten eventually and the man and his son

Foreign Service Officer For Citizenship And Immigration...
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted a career that would continually broaden my
horizons and benefit society at large. I am interested in a career as a Foreign Service Officer for
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) because of the international scope and dynamism of its
long term career path as well as the opportunity to contribute to Canadian society as a member of the
public service. Although these aspects of the career appeal to me, I also recognize them as the two
most challenging aspects of working as a Foreign Service Officer. First, the prospect of moving from
posting to posting, while exciting, would require me to constantly adapt to new environments and
make adjustments in personal affairs. Second, a career in public service requires me to serve as a non
partisan agent and to carry out policies that I may or may not agree with, which can present
demoralizing situations throughout the lifetime of my career. Despite these challenges, I am confident
that I can use the passion and interest that I possess for the work of a Foreign Service Officer to derive
satisfaction in such a career. My interest in a career as a Foreign Service Officer with CIC is rooted in
my desire for work that is both exciting and beneficial to society at large. There is extensive travelling
involved in a Foreign Service career with CIC, often to places that are radically different from Canada.
This would serve to broaden my own personal understanding of the human condition

Self Defense Training And Traditional Martial Arts Essay
Title
Self Defense Training and Traditional Martial Arts: Influences on Self Efficacy and Fear Related to
Sexual Victimization
Authors
Kimberly Ball, Instructor at Oakland Community College
Jeffrey Martin, Professor at Wayne State University
Hypothesis
The purpose of this study was to examine if traditional martial arts (TMA) and modern self defense
training (MSDT), relative to a stress management comparison program, were equally effective in
altering both multidimensional self efficacy and fear in relation to sexual victimization (Ball and
Martin, 2011, p. 1). Do these type of actions reflect on one s self esteem and stress levels? Do they
also help out during any type of sexual confrontation? These are the rhetorical questions are trying to
be answered in this research experiment.
Method
Many people have experienced a type of sexual assault, whether it is rape or being inappropriately
touched in private places. Most of these people are the women in our society. Many times when these
incidents happen, women look for different ways to protect themselves from the sexual assaults and
eventually look to prevent those incidents from ever happening again. Some women look for different
self defense training programs in their modern day lives and some look to a more physical protection
program, such as martial arts. There hasn t been any recent studies that have compared the two
programs together to see which one is actually effective in those sexual assault incidents. Bell and

fact they are different they are still all able to be friends . Even if it s being friends with a small furry

it is ok to be different,to have different personalities than other kids who they are friends . Sesame

Compare And Contrast Han China And Rome
Two empires from two different time periods are different, but are also similar at the same time. These
two power house empires are the Roman Empire of the west and the Han Dynasty in China to the east.
Both the Empires of China and Rome were ruled by an emperor who maintained imperial control,
however, the Chinese instituted a system of scholar bureaucrats that gained their position through
merit, while the Romans never achieved such an elaborate bureaucracy. The Hans were also more
technologically advanced and culturally creative, and had a different treatment of their emperors.
In Han China, anyone could have been in a government position if they passed an exam which tests
their intelligence. At the center of Han government was Confucianism, which were essentially the
rules all the rulers followed and looked to. For Roman government positions, it was hereditary, and the
emperors were generally the best generals. Imperial Rome also didn t have a specific set of guiding

Yeats s Interest in Rhythm
The purpose of rhythm, it has always seemed to me, is to prolong the moment of contemplation, the
moment when we are both awake and asleep, which is the one moment of creation, by hushing us with
an alluring monotony, while it holds us waking by variety, to keep us in that state of perhaps real
trance, in which the mind liberated from the pressure of the will is unfolded in symbols. (W.B. Yeats)
What light does this comment of Yeats shed on his poetry? Feel free in your answer to concentrate on
poetic devices other than rhythm if you prefer. Yeats interest in rhythm was deeply tied to the notion
of the sound of the earth and nature, and our relationship with the elements. He also had a profound
interest and belief in faery, and the ways in which one could transcend material reality in order to
reach that world which ran alongside the natural world. Yet Yeats, who was born in 1865 and died in
1939, lived through an era of immense scientific discovery and change. He lived in a world where, by
and large, to believe in faery was to be irrational, and the industrial hum of engines prevailed over the
quieter sounds of nature. In his earlier poetry, he conveys a certain reverence towards the ancient
rhythms of language and nature, flying in the face of the frenetically busy London life he experienced
as a young man. The bewitching beauty of the landscape of Sligo, steeped in folklore, were the true
rhythms which brought on the state of perhaps real trance , allowing him to

The Pros And Cons Of The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact
As tensions rose on the lead up to the Second World War, increasing pressures on European political

Pact was a move that greatly changed the trajectory in the build up to the Second World War. There
were many factors that gave rise to the signing of the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact; Stalin s fear of
isolation and Hitler s desire for control were not the only deciding elements. This paper will deal with
Soviet Foreign Policy from the years of 1939 41, with reference to the Molotov Ribbentrop Pact. We

Soviets, the reasons for their choices and the effect these choices had on Europe. The following
chapter will discuss the conditions that led to the Pact. As the paper continues, we will try to clarify
Stalin s frame of mind and how it impacted the USSR s foreign policy. Stalin was known to be
distrustful, a perception that was challenged by his collusion with the Nazi Regime. However, this

had to think of what was best for the Soviet Union and how best he could protect its safety without
engaging in a conflict. The Molotov Ribbentrop pact was the means to do this (Bell 1986). This
chapter will discuss the deciding factors that led to the Pact, how Stalin kept negotiation lines open
with both the Allies and with Germany until the last minute, and why this was so. The intended
outcome of this chapter is to show how Stalin made his final decision in picking

Why Should Service Dogs Be Allowed In Schools
There is a reason people say dogs are a man s best friend. When I was younger, I was always afraid
that some bad guy would break into my house. This fear caused me to have nightmares and lose sleep.
Then I got a dog and I felt so much safer! Right now there is a case going to the Supreme Court to
decide if service dogs should be allowed in schools. Service dogs should be allowed in schools
because they help people with disabilities, they provide comfort to people, and because dogs are
frequently used in fields of medicine. If I found comfort with a dog, so can students with disabilities.
Dogs are not just cute and fuzzy friends. Since it has been thousands of years that dogs have been
trained to do things for humans, we can now count on dogs to do very specific jobs. For example, the
article from the U.S. Department of Justice says, Service animals are defined as dogs that are ... Show

Elena Fry, the girl who brought the lawsuit to the supreme court, needed assistance to go to the
restroom and she was not comfortable with an adult helping her. The associated press article states,
Elena was humiliated by having to go to the school bathroom with adults watching. She could have
gone alone if she had Wonder (her service animal) to help. (p. 3). Dogs have helped humans in various
medical fields for a long time. There are dogs that get experimental cancer treatments to see if they
would be safe for humans. There are dogs that are trained to sniff out cancer in a human and according
to the article by D. Becker, there are even service dogs who alert their owners when their blood sugar
is dropping dangerously low. (p.1). Some people think that service dogs should not be allowed in
schools because they are afraid. However they are wrong because service dogs are so well trained they
will not harm the students or other people in a

Patricia Lengermann s Feminist Theory
5. The feminist theory is a wide range of ideas centered from a woman perspective. Within this theory,
there are many different spin offs. To begin the liberal feminist, focuses on gender differences and
gender inequality. Specifically, how men benefit more in society than women. This theory keys in o
the differences that are so evident in society. Gaining a lot of momentum in the 1960 s, this theory
sees the inequality as a result from patriarchal and sexists patterns within institutions. Specifically, In
Patricia Lengermann s chapter she claims a lot of this inequality established from injustice in labor,
but it is also seen in other institutions of society like marriage, households, and government.
Therefore, this theory called for change in law and custom to allow women to have their deserving
equality in society. They see change for equality by the use of the state. Specifically, according to
Lengermann, they fight change for equal educational and economic opportunities, and eliminate the
sexist message in many public and private institutions. Another big element is liberal feminist believe
inequalities between men and women are socially constructed. Although liberal feminist seek change
through policy, they are often criticized of being overly optimistic. It also misses the fact that there
deep structural causes to women oppression, and laws can t always just fix these problems. Some will
also argue the theory benefits white women more than any other racial group.

The Importance Of Silence In Human Interaction
Silence in human interaction is an extremely complex construct. Silence can have numerous
conceptual meanings ranging from complete acceptance to complete rejection. It can be an indication
of a person s pace of thought or understanding (Johannesen, 1974; Tannen, 1993). As a
communicative vehicle, silence carries a hidden component in every verbalisation (Zeligs, 1953).
Before we can consider its effects on the recipient, we first need to put context to the specific
interpretation of silence with regards to this study. In this case we are examining the effect on the
interviewer as a recipient in a suspect interview.
Silence is commonly associated with punishment and negative behaviour. When children misbehave,
they are told to sit in silence on the naughty step. The silent treatment is a subtle form of ostracism,
where the lack of communicative engagement is used to express disapproval and punishment. Silence
has the power to create a sense of discomfort and can be used as a sign of displeasure by its user
(Landers, 2017). It is regarded as a power tactic (Falbo and Peplau, 1980; Kipnis, 1984). Leonardo da
Vinci said of silence, nothing strengthens authority so much as silence . When Gottman (1979, 1980)
categorised disengagement behaviours present in damaged relationships, the silent treatment featured
as a sub category. It is used by young children as a form of control (Asher and Coie, 1990; Barner
Barry, 1986; Cairns and Cairns, 1991), and as a form of rejection

  • 2. Society s Impact On Wealth And Elite Social Status Increase in wealth during the post agriculture period impacted elite social status greatly. Elite social status was a great deal to the wealth people in this era. They would do everything in their power to ensure that their social status was unharmed. The wealth made the wealthier individual s feel higher and separated from the common people. The increase in wealth allowed room for elite to make rules that were to be governed in sexual relationships. It was so important to pass on the elite social status and wealth that it became codified as written laws for the elite. Wealth impacted the elite because it controlled who they could marry in order to pass on the social status. The most acceptable form of a relationship that would form into a marriage in an elite social status would be a relationship between a man and a woman, both coming from elite families. The wealth would then be able to be passed down, which exemplifies the impact wealth had on the elite social status. Elite men that formed relationships with a non elite woman would only be viewed her as a mistress for sexual pleasure. A elite woman and a non elite man would cause shame to be brought upon her family and the man could possibly be murdered for his actions. There were exceptions where a wealth family would adopt non elite males and raise them to be elite. (McKay, Pg. 26) Wealth impacted elite social status because most inheritance is left to male heirs, but in desperate efforts to keep wealth within their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Foils in Othello The Foils of Othello One of William Shakespeare s many attributes as a playwright of the late 16th century was his character development. Shakespeare s seamless use of indirect characterization sets his works apart from the other playwrights and authors of his time. In Othello, the Shakespearian tragedy about the newlywed Othello and Desdemona, Shakespeare uses character foils to emphasize the strengths and weaknesses of the characters. By making inwardly similar characters seem like polar opposites, Shakespeare truly shows how dynamic each of the characters is. The main couple of the play is very different from each other which is easily seen by the audience because of how they interact with one another. They manage to sell many of the animals, some of which are also bound for Canada or the United States; they are all aboard the same Japanese cargo ship the Tsimtsum. Queer Representation Of All Ages Media Essay Queer Representation in All Ages Media Growing up as a Catholic, Puerto Rican gay boy in the 90s and early 2000s, I struggled to discover my queer identity as well as queer representation in the media I consumed. Being gay was something that was never discussed. If it was brought up, it was usually in hushed tones (I remember being introduced to my uncle s close friend each holiday) or as something negative (I still remember the sting of being called a faggot in elementary school). This reflected exactly how homosexuality was portrayed in media at the time. Queer characters and homosexuality were at best portrayed in codified, blink and you ll miss it labels and affectations, or at worst, something to laugh at, pity or even hate. As someone who still regularly watches reads comics, watches Saturday morning cartoons and plays video games, it is so exciting to discover the lengths of progress that has been made in queer representation in all ages media. The film s movement towards abstraction can be understood both in visual and narrative terms (Falsetto, 115). 2001 s presentation of details from the Dawn of Man sequence, to later space travel scenes are shot with complete conviction and impeccable detail. • 24. Biomagnification In Australia It is known worldwide that Australia is home to many rich and vibrant marine ecosystems, however, this could all soon be over. A silent killer is on our shores and is taking over many marine ecosystems at a rapid rate. What is this silent killer you ask? Well it s none other than the process of biomagnification! Now you may all be wondering what this actually is and why it is causing all of this panic? Biomagnification is simply the increasing concentration of a substance, such as chemicals, in the tissues of organisms at higher level within a food chain(R. K. Mehra, 2001, pp. 5335 5338). Biomagnification occurs because the chemical is absorbed faster than it can be used or the organism cannot break it for use (M. Barwick, 2003, pp. 471 502). ... They then make their way into nearby water bodies, wether that be creeks, rivers or even oceans and settle within the soil by sticking to small particles, including tiny living organisms like phytoplankton (M. Barwick, 2003, pp. 471 502). Small fish consume these tiny organisms, which may then be eaten by a larger organism and this continues until the top order consumer is reached. The concentration that first began in the phytoplankton and has multiplied sufficiently as it moves along the food chain. The amount of the pesticide has reached a highly toxic level in the top order predator, whether that is birds or even humans. As a result of the biomagnification of pesticides and other chemical the marine environment and the organisms that live within it are heavily affected. The build up of heavy metals, for example, it interferes with the formation of red blood cells, creates liver and kidney implications and forms reproductive defects in many organisms. In Texas, I found it to be extremely difficult to get around without a car. This brought me to the purchase of a 2005 Toyota Corolla. The five steps in the decision making process needed to decide what to do in my situation includes; 1) Problem recognition, 2)Information search, 3)Evaluation of alternatives, 4)Product choice, and 5)Post purchase evaluation. I found myself offering to run errands for people just so I can take my car for a drive. I was exceedingly happy with my purchase. There were many internal influences in the decision making process of my purchase. Perception: I was under the perception that Toyota made high quality, reliable, long lasting, low maintenance automobiles. Motivation: I wanted to buy a car so that I could attain more freedom and stop relying on others (mass transportation, friends, or family). A car could get me to work, I could run errands, spend time out by myself, etc. The old Corollas were not very attractive to me. Learning: I had learned however that the car was redesigned in 2004 and became a much more attractive car with updated styling. This ruled out however buying a Corolla in 2003 or earlier. By the time I was ready to buy, I could not find a 2004 that fit my criteria. Personality: I guess my personality assisted in the selection of the car to buy as well. I like to try new things but I also find comfort in the known. I am not a very sociable person. I tend to look at practicality over flashy for the most part. I also prefer to hold off on buying ... • 32. Literary Analysis Of The Road By Cormac Mccarthy Cormac McCarthy s The Road is his post apocalyptic magnus opus which combines a riveting plot along with an unconventional prose style. Released in 2006, the novel has won awards such as the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award (Wilson). Oprah Winfrey also selected the book for her book club ( Cormac McCarthy ). The author, Cormac McCarthy, was born in 1933 in Rhode Island and is said to have wrote the novel because of his son and their relationship. The Road centers around a boy and his father while they try to survive after an unknown disaster occurs. While some people may argue that the unusual style takes away from the novel, it adds to the tone and meaning of the work. The Road takes place in post apocalyptic America after an unknown disaster occurs. The novel centers around a boy and his father, both of whom are never given names. In an analepse, the reader learns that the mother of the boy kills herself with a flake of obsidian as she fears that she would be raped and murdered (McCarthy 30). [The man] hadn t kept a calendar for years and the reader is left unsure what year or month it is (McCarthy 2). The man is sure, however, that winter is approaching and it would be best for him and the boy to travel south where it is warmer. They have nothing but a pistol, their clothes, and a cart with food they scavenged for. The world is barren with dust and ash everywhere (McCarthy 3). The story chronicles the man and boy s journey to the south while they look for food, supplies, and shelter. The pair must fend off bad guys during their journey as well (McCarthy 39). When one of these bad guys puts his knife at the boy s throat, the man is left with no other option than to shoot the bad guy leaving a hole in his forehead (McCarthy 34). Another gruesome event occurs when the man and boy are looking for food in a house they found. While walking down a cellar s stairs, they smell an ungodly stench (McCarthy 56). I am interested in a career as a Foreign Service Officer for Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) because of the international scope and dynamism of its long term career path as well as the opportunity to contribute to Canadian society as a member of the public service. Although these aspects of the career appeal to me, I also recognize them as the two most challenging aspects of working as a Foreign Service Officer. First, the prospect of moving from posting to posting, while exciting, would require me to constantly adapt to new environments and make adjustments in personal affairs. Second, a career in public service requires me to serve as a non partisan agent and to carry out policies that I may or may not agree with, which can present demoralizing situations throughout the lifetime of my career. Despite these challenges, I am confident that I can use the passion and interest that I possess for the work of a Foreign Service Officer to derive satisfaction in such a career. My interest in a career as a Foreign Service Officer with CIC is rooted in my desire for work that is both exciting and beneficial to society at large. • 37. Yeats s Interest in Rhythm The purpose of rhythm, it has always seemed to me, is to prolong the moment of contemplation, the moment when we are both awake and asleep, which is the one moment of creation, by hushing us with an alluring monotony, while it holds us waking by variety, to keep us in that state of perhaps real trance, in which the mind liberated from the pressure of the will is unfolded in symbols. (W.B. Yeats) What light does this comment of Yeats shed on his poetry? Feel free in your answer to concentrate on poetic devices other than rhythm if you prefer. Yeats interest in rhythm was deeply tied to the notion of the sound of the earth and nature, and our relationship with the elements. He also had a profound interest and belief in faery, and the ways in which one could transcend material reality in order to reach that world which ran alongside the natural world. Yet Yeats, who was born in 1865 and died in 1939, lived through an era of immense scientific discovery and change. He lived in a world where, by and large, to believe in faery was to be irrational, and the industrial hum of engines prevailed over the quieter sounds of nature. In his earlier poetry, he conveys a certain reverence towards the ancient rhythms of language and nature, flying in the face of the frenetically busy London life he experienced as a young man. • 41. Patricia Lengermann s Feminist Theory 5. The feminist theory is a wide range of ideas centered from a woman perspective. Within this theory, there are many different spin offs. To begin the liberal feminist, focuses on gender differences and gender inequality. Specifically, how men benefit more in society than women. This theory keys in o the differences that are so evident in society. Gaining a lot of momentum in the 1960 s, this theory sees the inequality as a result from patriarchal and sexists patterns within institutions. Specifically, In Patricia Lengermann s chapter she claims a lot of this inequality established from injustice in labor, but it is also seen in other institutions of society like marriage, households, and government. Therefore, this theory called for change in law and custom to allow women to have their deserving equality in society. They see change for equality by the use of the state. Specifically, according to Lengermann, they fight change for equal educational and economic opportunities, and eliminate the sexist message in many public and private institutions. Another big element is liberal feminist believe inequalities between men and women are socially constructed. Although liberal feminist seek change through policy, they are often criticized of being overly optimistic. It also misses the fact that there deep structural causes to women oppression, and laws can t always just fix these problems. • 42. The Importance Of Silence In Human Interaction Silence in human interaction is an extremely complex construct. Silence can have numerous conceptual meanings ranging from complete acceptance to complete rejection. It can be an indication of a person s pace of thought or understanding (Johannesen, 1974; Tannen, 1993). As a communicative vehicle, silence carries a hidden component in every verbalisation (Zeligs, 1953). Before we can consider its effects on the recipient, we first need to put context to the specific interpretation of silence with regards to this study. In this case we are examining the effect on the interviewer as a recipient in a suspect interview. Silence is commonly associated with punishment and negative behaviour. When children misbehave, they are told to sit in silence on the naughty step. The silent treatment is a subtle form of ostracism, where the lack of communicative engagement is used to express disapproval and punishment. Silence has the power to create a sense of discomfort and can be used as a sign of displeasure by its user (Landers, 2017). It is regarded as a power tactic (Falbo and Peplau, 1980; Kipnis, 1984). Leonardo da Vinci said of silence, nothing strengthens authority so much as silence . When Gottman (1979, 1980) categorised disengagement behaviours present in damaged relationships, the silent treatment featured as a sub category.
