Technology, Digital Media &
Curriculum Integration
BY MAUD MUSHAYAMUNDA
Integration Literacy is…
 The ability to use computer & other technologies
to enhance students’ learning
Digital Media Application is
important for Education because…
 Studies indicate students retain 50% of what they see
and hear
 It appeals to a variety of learning styles
 Helps teachers manage today’s digital kids in the
classroom
 Students become active participants in the learning
process
Curriculum Integration is the
combination of all technology parts
to enhance learning
What is Curriculum?
What is taught; the skills, knowledge and student experience
Pros & Cons of using computer Labs
vs. computers in the classroom
 Cost & location for computer labs– easier to maintain if computers
are in one place.
 Computer lab – students able to receive same instruction at the
same time.
 Classroom computers – research maintains that these are better for
instruction than computer lab because teachers are able to use
these for ‘teachable moments’ whenever they arise.
Barriers to
Technology
Integration
• Lack of teacher training
• Lack of administration
support
• Lack of computers esp. in
remote areas
• Budget constraints
• Resistance to change by
many educators
World Wide Web – allows students educational
experiences previously not available
- Academic levels
- Cultural backgrounds
- Socioeconomic levels
- Geographic locations
- Learning styles
- Learning abilities
Assure Model – to develop
technology-enriched lessons
