The document discusses the production process of a student film. 2.  The modern technologies, including digital
cameras, non-linear editing software and
effects have allowed us to produce a
product, almost on par to a professional
Hollywood film.
 The evolution of the internet, with
websites such as youtube.com,
freesound.org, have meant that in terms of
distribution and access to open-source
softwares and files I have access to
markets as wide as major distributors.

3.  We used the Internet as a tool for finding
films and opening sequences, on websites
such as artofthetitle.com, imdb.com.
 We used youtube.com to look at previous
years’ work, learning from their mistakes and

4.  To make a script, or outline we used celtx, an
open-source software that gave us the tools
required to produce our preparative
documents including a script, shot list and
props list.
 We used a digital camera to capture our

5.  We used a DSLR, which being light, compact and
high quality we were able to get footage we wouldn’t
have been able to on a conventional film camera,
getting the camera in positions and angles a
conventional camera wouldn’t be able to achieve.
We did this by placing the camera on tripod toward
the angle we wanted to film.
 The use of a colour-filter allowed us to achieve a
yellow hue in the bathroom scenes.

6.  Final Cut Pro was used to
edit the footage, and the use
of effects such as reverse,
dissolve & layers of footage.
We learnt how to use the
program having never
touched any editing software
before. The freedom of final
cut pro allowed us to edit
footage non-linearly, which
proved incredibly useful as
we filmed more footage
periodically through the
editing stage. We used the
program effectively I believe
because we preserved
continuity in our match-on-
action cutting.
