Question 4
How did you use new media technologies in
the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
Technologies used
Video
The camera we used this year was a sony HDV
camcorder, this was a lot more advanced and
higher quality then the handheld camera used in
our first year project. This enabled us to create
better looking shots and had a lot more functions
which gave us higher control over what we were
filming and how it would look.
Technologies used
Audio
The majority of the diegetic sound was recorded through
the microphone connected to the camera. This was a
boom style mic with a foam cover on it, this helped
cancel out some unwanted sounds such as wind that
would take away from the overall feel of our film.
Some of the sound such as the phone calls was recorded
in the sound booth in college using Pro Tools HD. To get
the higher pitched sound with less bass like that from
the phone, we added a 7 band EQ and a High Pass filter
Technologies used
Planning
While planning our films we used colleges Apple Mac
computers. We used google chrome to research films
and ideas and google’s Blogger site to post our work.
We used the program Celtex to write out our script and a
DSLR camera to take photos for our photo storyboard.
Technologies used
Editing
We used Final Cut Pro to edit our film as it was on the
college macs and it was easy to understand and use.
Using final cut allowed us to be creative as we could use
the many filters, transitions and effects that it has to
offer. I feel that this let us create things that we would
not have been able to accomplish with other software.
Technologies used
Ancillary texts
We created our posters using Photoshop Elements on the Macs.
This was useful as we all had some degree of previous experience
with Photoshop. This meant we were able to create an effective
poster that would reach out to our target audience.
When creating the radio trailer, we simply took diegetic
and non-diegetic sounds from our film and placed Harry’s
voice-over over the top using Final cut pro and Pro tools
