The Long Profile Of A River
Introduction
In this investigation, I will be investigating the changes along the long profile of a river. In order to do
this, I will be collecting data and making observations at three different points along the river; the
upper course, the middle course, and the lower course.
The river which I will be conducting my observations would be on Bartley Water. Bartley Water is a
river going through the New Forest which is located in the south of the UK, Hampshire. The source of
the river begins from Bartley, 109m above sea level, and joins to its end at Eling, flowing into
Southampton Water. The river has a length of 27km and a catchment area of 40sqkm. It is a tributary
of the River Test. The river bed contains of a mixture of sand, silt and clay which can change as the
river behaves due to erosion, transportation and deposition.
The sites which I will be investigating on are:
Site one is at Buskett s Lawn, grid reference: 309109
Site two is at Woodlands, grid reference: 325006
Site three is at Eling, grid reference: 362124
The surroundings of these areas differ at each site. Site one is mostly rural areas whereas, when it
moves onto the last site, it becomes an urban area. These will affect on the course and direction of the
river and its characteristics.
The long profile of a river describes how the characteristics of the river vary from the upper course to
the lower course. A quicker and easier way to present this idea is through a Bradshaw Model (see the

Geologists And Tourists At The Taupo Volcanic Zone ( Tvz...
Introduction In this report, I will be explaining two surface features which are visually interesting to
geologists and tourists in the Taupo Volcanic Zone (TVZ), Lake Taupo, and Mt Ruapehu. Lake Taupo
is a main tourist attraction as it is the largest lake in New Zealand with a beautiful scenery perfect for
activities like recreational fishing and sky diving. Furthermore, it generates electrical energy via the
Waikato river that is used by people all around waikato. Mt Ruapehu is also a tourist attraction as the
highest peak on the North Island with two major ski fields and only glaciers on its slopes. Creation
Believe it or not, both surface features are active volcanoes. Lake Taupo a caldera, and Mt Ruapehu a
stratovolcano. These volcanoes were formed because TVZ is a convergent plate boundary where the
Pacific (Oceanic) plate which is more dense ,is getting subducted under the Australian (Continental)
crust which is less dense. This is being driven by a force called convection which happens in the
asthenosphere which is fluid. It is when the fluid near the core heats up, and rises due to it s low
density compared to the surrounding fluid. This fluid then cools down and sinks due to it s high
density compared to the surrounding fluid. It therefore gets near to the core again and so, repeats the
cycle. The direction of the convection can cause plate boundaries opposite and away from each other
will result in divergent plate boundaries and opposite but towards each

Making the Best Use of Pakistan s Natural Resources
INTRODUCTION
Pakistan is rich in natural resources. It has mountains , plains , deserts , fertile land , rivers and oceans.
Natural resources are very important to the development and prosperity of a country. The important
thing is to use them for the welfare of human beings and the development of the country economically
because the progress of a country depends entirely on the use of available resources. Significant
natural resources are described as follows :
1. Soil
Soil dry Pakistan belong to group having high carbonate and calcium poor in organic matter. These
vary in color from reddish brown in the north to the red or gray in the south. These soils are generally
fertile due to training. The barrage of new stores near the river called Khaddar and mostly consists of
sand . The old bar alluvial plateau, called Bangar , consists of finer particles loams . At the foot of the
mountains the soil is sandy and generally becomes thinner towards the plains where Khankah , the
concentration of limestone is occasionally . The soils of the deserts of Thal and Thar and Balochistan
are carried by the wind. In southern Potwar is a thin layer of residual floor coating .
2.Water
Water is a basic necessity of life . Human beings , animals and plants can not live without water. Water
is essential for maintaining the quality of life on earth . This finite commodity has a direct impact on
almost all sectors of the economy. In Pakistan its importance is more than ordinary

Disadvantages Of Online Recruiting
The Advantage and Disadvantage of Online Recruiting
After completing the chapters reading at Bethel University, this student have learned that more and
more companies are utilizing online recruiting as there main source of hiring process for their
organizations. Online job sites have transformed the recruitment landscape for both employers and job
seekers and largely increased the efficiency with which hiring decisions can take place. In addition to
the now conventional social networking recruitment tools, recruiters may find the use of more targeted
association sites to help narrow the candidate pool and make sure efforts are not being wasted on
uninterested parties. Local business forums, supported by a city or regional website, frequently have
job boards hosting local businesses and may also keep member directories and contact information
useful to recruiters. Industry sites typically have databases of resumes and direct discussion
environments that can facilitate direct electronic contact with a candidate. As for this adult student,
one would be more attracted to company that uses online recruiting methods for their hiring process.
Bethel, (2011), Online recruitment is the process of using the Internet to actively seek out and recruit
talented candidates for an organization. The Internet has quickly become one of the primary
recruitment tools for both internal recruitment and talent acquisition committees and third party
companies (p.144).

The Prayer Of The Sacred
For most religions, the sacred feels as though it is out of reach or untouchable. One typically cannot
have a direct conversation with whom they consider sacred, so they pray to their god(s), hoping that
their prayers will be heard and answered. Another aspect of following a religion is having a deep
feeling of either love, respect or fear for the sacred. No matter the feeling, it is critical for one who
follows it to reach out with prayer and tell their sacred how they feel, profess their faith and ask for
guidance. Inside sacred texts, there may be scriptures which are considered privileged and normative
for a particular tradition (Sacred Quest. Cunningham). Scriptures such as The Lord s Prayer or the
Shema follow that definition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Christianity, Heaven is the holy place where one who deserves it, goes after death. It is considered
among Christians a place where there is no pain, no sadness, only happiness and light. Next, it says ,
hallowed be thy name (Lord s Prayer. Traditional).. Essentially the speaker is again, acknowledging
not only the importance of the name of the sacred, but again reiterating that the sacred is so far above
the speaker, that they must address that even as they are speaking to him. The next line goes, Thy
kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is Heaven (Lord s Prayer. Traditional).. The speaker is
saying that they bode to the will of their Lord, though he is in Heaven and they are on Earth. No
matter the distance between the sacred and the speaker, they will do the Lords bidding as he says.
Next it goes, Give us this day, our daily bread (Lord s Prayer. Traditional).. The meaning behind this
line is that the speaker is asking the sacred to give them the day and the time and the means to do get
through it. Religion is a very powerful entity and when people are going through struggles, often they
will turn to the sacred for guidance and help. The speaker is asking the Lord to help them get through
what they are going through by giving them what they need to do it, (i.e. the daily bread). Next, the
speaker says And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us (Lord s Prayer.
Traditional).. The

Factors Affecting The Deficiency Of Vitamin
Vitamin A (VA) is an essential nutrient which is needed in small amounts for the normal functioning
of the visual system, growth and development, immune function and reproduction. Severe deficiency
of VA is known to produce corneal xerophthalmia, keratomalacia and blindness in children and it is
mainly seen amongst the young children, because they have high requirements due to increased
physical growth and have low dietary intake. India has the highest prevalence of clinical and
subclinical VA deficiency among South Asian countries. Poverty, culture and nutrition education are
the major contributing factors for this vitamin deficiency. In this paper, I would like to discuss those
factors that are affecting the deficiency of Vitamin A in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around one million children suffer from vitamin A deficiency in India at any one point of time
because of poverty (UNICEF, 1998). Leafy vegetables which appear to be the only practical source of
dietary carotenes are not generally consumed by the poor rural families (Devadas, 1983). In India
reports concluded that 62% of preschool children were reported to be deficient in vitamin A. These
dramatic results suggest high mortality rate, leading to an annual 330,000 child deaths (Mitra AK,
1998). To conclude this, the above statistics are suggest that poverty is the sole contributor to almost
50% of the Vitamin A deficiency among the population of India.
However, poverty is not only the cause for the deficiency. Other factors like culture and consumption
pattern of food play a key role in affecting the deficiency of Vitamin A. Examining the general food
pattern of families is a necessary first step in order to understand food patterns of vulnerable
individuals. In India, the majority of families eat three meals a day and the first meal of the day often
consists of the leftovers from the previous night. Several ethnic and economic factors prevent people
from consuming some foods like eggs, meat and fish which are good sources of Vitamin A.
Ethnographic instructions and historical or cultural behaviours are the main reasons for

Ethics Of Care Theory
The ethics of care is an institutionalizing moral speculation as often as possible considered a kind of
virtue morals. There are three sorts excellence morals which is Eudaimonism, agent based theory, and
the ethics of care. The important one for this assigment is ethics of care. Ethics of Care is a hypothesis
that highlights the association of all people. It discusses how certain groups and individuals are more
powerless than others, and that the non helpless populace ought to manage the cost of additional

positivity as Lee and Kyle developed an unlikely bond, whereby both care for each other in the sense

Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall Essay
Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall
The air is cool and crisp. Roosters can be heard welcoming the sun to a new day and a woman is seen,
wearing a clean colorful wrap about her body and head, her shadow casting a lone silhouette on the
stone wall. The woman leans over to slide a piece of paper into one of the cracks, hoping her prayer
will be heard in this city of Jerusalem. Millions are inserting their prayers into the walls of Japanese
temples, while an inmate in one of a hundred prisons across the United States looks past his wall
toward the prayers he did not keep. Billions fall asleep each night surrounded by four walls and
thousands travel to China to witness the grandest one of all. Who builds walls and who ... Show more

He blames it upon the cold ravages of a winter swell and the indifferent attitude of hunters searching
out a hare. By leaving the question a mystery the speaker is able to entertain himself with fantasies of
elves and ideas of fiction, to fill a winter s long mind made mischievious by the spring season
(Lentricchia 105).
In defense of why a wall should be maintained the farmer merely states his father s saying, Good
fences make good neighbors (Frost 28). The farmer does not have any real proof of why the wall
should be put back each spring, when there is no threat of livestock crossing the borders. When
questioned a second time he gave the same answer and again without giving the reason why fences
make good neighbors. Family tradition and work ethic seem to be this farmer s motivation. He seeks
to get the wall completed where the speaker appears more entertained by the activity (Barry 145). The
farmer s mechanical repair of the fence is imagined in the eyes of the speaker as an old stone savage
armed (Stanford 40).
Before attitudes can be discussed first the poem s moral must be decided. Mending Wall does not take
the approach of right and wrong, rather it shows two perspectives. There is the speaker who seeks a
release from the dull ritual of work each spring and the farmer, who is trapped by work and the New
England past (Lentricchia 106). Two

Intercultural Communication Essay
Communication can be performed through the utilisation of languages, such as English. Presently,
English has become a favourable and prominent tool for interaction among people of different cultural
backgrounds. The high demand in acquiring English for fields such as international politics, science
and technology has led to the global spread of the language. Consequently, English is recognised as an
international language, and its ownership is considered to be denationalised and renationalised. The
understanding of this ownership status is crucial in establishing an effective practice of intercultural
communication, by acknowledging the variations of English and cultural differences in
communication styles within classroom and business contexts.
First, since English has become an international language, its ownership is regarded as denationalised
and renationalised. The concept of denationalisation proposed by Smith suggests that English is no
longer just owned by countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, but by various
other countries around the world that also use the language. Kachru also argued that a global English
should not only be restricted to the official use by colonial countries of the United Kingdom and the
United States, and it is not a necessity to internalise the native speakers norms. It is said that the
process of denationalisation results in renationalisation, in which, according to McKay, involves
English localisation the

The Superformation Of Female Superheroes In The Wonder Woman
DC comics, illustrated the comic book, Wonder Woman, that strive for female superheroes to be

female superhero, Wonder Woman, is given empowering qualities such as leadership and devotion.
Although, Wonder Woman is given these empowering qualities, the comic book artists clothed this
female character with clothing that sexualizes them greatly because of the amount of skin that is being
revealed. The suits that these female superheroes are shown to be wearing stimulates this sensual
excitement to the male audience which erupts these superheroes to receive a greater amount of
attention than those female superheroes who do not necessarily reveal as much skin. Similar to the
group of girls described in Rat Queens, the female superhero, Wonder Woman, contributes to the way
these adolescent girls are being judged for the appearance they should resemble. According to An
Analysis of Embodiment Among Six Superheroes in DC Comics , the author, Edward Avery Natale,
has incorporated astonishing research on the presentation of female superheroes in comic books.
Avery Natale stated that Lips, facial expressions, and hairstyles were also coded using the guide s

female superheroes are created to be shown as physically and sexually pleasing so that these heroes

Summary Of The Film American Ultra
American Ultra is the story about a CIA sleeper secretive operative, Mike Howell (Jesse Eisenberg)
living in a small town with his girlfriend. When the regime at headquarters shifts to new power, Mike
Howell is put on a termination list.
This is a film by Nima Mourizadeh staring Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, and Connie Britton.
This is one of the most entertaining films I ve seen in a while, even though the story was not too
originial A sleeper in a small town gets woken up and has to defend his life, think Bourne Identity, The
Manchurian Candidate, and slew of other secret agent films, like The Kingsman, James Bound,
Mission Impossible, and the list goes on and on. How many times can you do the same story over?
This film takes an incredible angle, think Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Nima turns this piece into a
combination of graphic art, comic book storytelling, action and comedy. I was visually entertained
with art and action the fight scenes were amazing and flawlessly choreographed. And to think, this is

Life of Workers in Staithes Essay
Close by the giant textile mill row on row on row of drab terrace houses huddle together as if to fend
off the bitter cold of a winter night in December of 1811. Night obscures the narrow streets of the
industrial village of Holmeside as morning s hesitant light pokes through the canopy of dismal clouds.
Inside the mill, workers have been toiling for hours. They rose from their beds early and put on their
work clothing. The lucky ones ate a crust of bread and drank the remains of yesterday s milk before
stepping out into the chilly darkness to make their way to the mill. They carried the smallest children.
Older children plodded along sleepily as if newly raised from the dead and not yet accustomed to
walking. The eldest child is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All that is human is troubled by their failure to benefit except by Death s summons. The portal of the
grave is their only means of escape.
Some said the disadvantages of the poor were their own making. Many believed that the working poor
were not fully human, but a bestial and inferior species, unlike themselves, specifically supplied by
Providence as servants through whose labour they ran profitable enterprises. The poor were seen as a
raw material in the same class as wool and cotton. They were cheap to employ and easy to replace.
Those that looked down on workers failed to see that working conditions in textile mills were why
workers were afflicted with conditions for which no treatment existed.
These early morning people move in procession through the streets, uniting with others at street
junctions to form broader streams, merging with other streams as they neared the mill to form a grand
current of humanity closing on the massive iron gates of the mill that were symbols of imprisonment.
Once inside the gates, workers fanned out to go to various work stations to work as machine minders
in the manufactory. This was the common condition of men, women, and children in the hard textile
country of Yorkshire s West Riding. The characters of Yorkshire folk were forged in the crucibles of
harsh terrain and exacting industrial environments.

Ralph Stanley Research Paper
Dr. Ralph Edmond Stanley, a well known American Bluegrass artist, was born February 25, 1927, in
Big Spraddle Creek, Virginia. He just recently passed away last year on June 23, 2016. During those
89 years of life, Mr. Stanley sure made a name for himself to be remembered for many years after he
was gone. There were two things that made him stand out from many of the bluegrass artists. Those
things were his original voice and his unique way of picking the banjo. Mr. Stanleys mother bought
him his first banjo for five dollars when he was around 15 or 16. His mother taught him to play
clawhammer style on the banjo and later in life he developed his own style from this strumming style.
After graduation from high school in May of 1945, he went into the Army for about a year. The day he
came home from the war, Carter, his Brother, and his father picked him up and later that night he

After spending many hours just listening to the songs played I discovered many different styles,
melodies, harmonies, voices, and instruments. There were two songs in this album that were a trio that
consisted of Ralph Stanley, Vince Gill, and Patty Loveless. Something that I think sounded very well
was the harmony when they all sang the chorus of the song A Lonesome Night . The mix of Ralph
Stanley s high pitch unique voice, Vince Gills soft, smooth tone, and Patty Loveless honky tonk style
blended very well. Some other instruments besides the banjo were guitar, fiddle, and the mandolin. To
no surprise, all of these instruments are very prone to being involved in the bluegrass genre. From the
many different voices that were included in this album, they each had at least a little piece of
originality to them. You can definitely hear belting from some of the older people simply because of
when they began singing and how they got used to singing loud without amplification

Diagnostic Lab
Problem Statement
Cell filtration is often necessary for diagnostic lab tests. One example of this is for cystic fibrosis
patients. Individuals with cystic fibrosis often get lung infections due to the thick mucus in their lungs.
In order to prescribe antibiotics for these lung infections, a bacterial culture needs to be performed,
which requires bacterial samples to be separated from the thick mucus of sputum. Passive filtration is
the most commonly used type of filtration in cell sorting for diagnostic purposes and extorts cells
physical properties (Yoon et al., 2016). Dead end filtration is a form of passive filtration where the
filtrate is added perpendicularly to the filter (Yoon et al., 2016). While dead end filtration is relatively
easy to perform, larger particles can block the filter, stopping the flow of filtrate through the filter.
This blockage problem causes dead end filtration to be underutilized (Mugnier, Howell, Ruf, 2000). It
has been shown that a cycle of forward and backward flushes can dislodge larger particles from the
filter allowing more of the smaller particles to rush through the filter pores (Smith, Vigneswaran, Ngo,
Ben Aim, Nguyen, 2005) but what percentage of backward flush is most efficient in a duty cycle with

Thomas Paine And John Paine Essay
Introduction Thomas Paine was born to Joseph Paine and Francis Cocke Paine in January, 1737. Paine
s father was Quaker, and his mother was Anglican. The religious controversies haunted Paine
throughout his life. His personal life ended in divorce and destitution. After barely avoiding debtor s
prison in 1774, a mutual friend introduced Paine to Benjamin. This introduction would change the
course of Paine s life. Franklin was immediately impressed with Paine and wrote a letter of
introduction for him. Paine suffered physical illness on his journey that very nearly killed him, but he
managed to survive the trip and arrived in Philadelphia September of 1774. After this new start, Paine
began his career of publishing articles and pamphlets in the colonies. His first published essay was
African Slavery in America. This article argued that slavery was unjust and inhumane. Paine also
wrote and co edited the Pennsylvania Magazine. He used this format to express new ideas and learn
about his audience. In January of 1776, Paine published Common Sense, which would unite his fellow
colonists on a path to either freedom or high treason. Paine continued to publish throughout the
ensuing revolution. He published a series of essays titled the American Crisis Papers. These sixteen
papers flamed the embers kindled by Common Sense; they urged the colonists to fight against their
perpetual enslavement by Great Britain. Although Paine s early works often sold out, his

The Corrupted Christ Figure In The Poisonwood Bible
The Corrupted Christ Figure
A Christ figure can share attributes with Jesus and be the antagonist of the story. In Thomas C. Foster
s novel How to Read Literature like a Professor, he analyzes what a Christ figure looks like in
literature. He argues that a character who shares personality traits and or physical characteristics with
Christ is a representation and reflection of Jesus. Similarly, in Barbara Kingsolver s novel The
Poisonwood Bible, her character Nathan Price believes he is synonymous to Christ while in reality, he
is far from perfect. She uses irony to exploit the idea of the Christ figure. The use of irony as seen in
Kingsolver s novel, up ends Foster s claims as to what makes a Christ figure by creating a character
who assumes he is Christ yet does not reflect Christ s attributes.
A Christ figure represents the attributes of Christ in the way they live. Foster expands on this idea by
arguing a list of characteristics regarding Jesus. As readers, he claims, while we may not be all that
versed in types and archetypes from the Bible, we generally recognize, whatever our religious
affiliation, some of the features that make Christ who he is (Foster 125). If Christ s attributes reflect
themselves in a character, readers can use their knowledge to assume the character is a Christ figure.
Likewise, Kingsolver uses Nathan Price as an examples of a Christ figure. Nathan comes to the Congo
to redeem an unworthy people, has disciples (his family), and wanders the

Capitalism In Death Of A Salesman
The American Death: An Analysis of Death of a Salesman
After World War II, The U.S. entered into a time known as the Golden Age of Capitalism. A major
ideology that developed during this time was the American Dream. According to Merriam Webster,
the American Dream is a happy way of living... that can be achieved by anyone... by working hard and
becoming successful. Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman critiques this ideology through the
outcome of Willy s life and in light of Karl Marx s ideas in Alienation.
One way Miller critiques the American Dream is through Marx s idea of proprietors and propertyless.
Marx states in Alienated Labor that the whole society is divided into two classes of proprietors and
propertyless (171). Throughout the story, the audience learns Willy is part of the propertyless. This is
demonstrated when Willy and Linda have a conversation about the refrigerator. Linda mentions how
they are close to paying it off, but Willy replies that it just broke again (73). In light of Marx, since
Willy is not able to own his refrigerator, he is part of the propertyless. On the other hand, Howard,
Willy s boss, is a proprietor. The way Howard achieves this job is through inheritance. At one point in
the story, Willy asks Howard if he can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This dream is dangerous because it causes a loss of one s identity and endless work towards an
unreachable goal. If people continue to believe this dream is possible, then the proprietor will continue
to exploit them. In the end, all the worker has to show for their work is their death. When they die, this
process will just continue with another worker. The workers may believe that they are assets to the
company, but in reality, they replaceable. While the American Dream may seem like a fantasy, it is
ultimately an endless cycle of the exploitation that can never be

Mount Hood Is Oregon s Highest Peak
Volcanoes are one of the most destructive, yet, most beautiful things on Earth. They can make a
famous city choke in its own ashes in one day, like Pompeii. Or they can turn a once damaging
mountain into a graceful and peaceful home for new life, like Mount St. Helen s. All volcanoes are
unique, and no two are the same. Some erupt differently than others, some look different than others,
and all are located in different spots all over the world. I learned this while completing the project and
the five volcanoes I researched are examples of my discoveries. The five volcanoes I researched were
Mount Hood, Mount Mageik, Long Island, Mount Muria, and Las Pilas.
Mount Hood is Oregon s highest peak. It stands at 3,425 meters in height and its base spans over an
area of 92 square miles. Mount Hood is located in North America in the country of the Untied States
of America in the state of Oregon. Its exact location in Latitude and Longitude is 45.374 N, 121.695
W. Mt. Hood is a Strato Volcano, which means when it erupts, it is most likely going to have an
explosive or effusive eruption. Currently, Mount Hood is dormant, but volcanologists have confirmed
that it has erupted at least 5 times in the past. The date of its last eruption was 1866 CE. Mount Hood
is also the 2nd most climbed mountain on the Earth, after Japan s Mt. Fujiyama. The first wedding
held on Mount Hood was in July, 1915 joining Blanche Pechette and Frank Pearce. Mount Mageik is a

Progressivism Essay
Progressivism
The Progressive Movement in the late nineteenth century, early twentieth century presented quite a
situation for historians to conquer. At the turn of the twentieth century political questioning was the
norm. Practically every historian that writes about this time period has a different opinion of what
made up Progressive Movement, some even going so far to beg the question if it was actually a
movement or if it was more of an era. The two are interchanged so often that they have in many ways
come to mean the same thing although according to some they are distinctly different.
The four works, Richard Hofstadter s The Age of Reform, Peter Filene s An Obituary for the
Progressive Movement, Richard McCormick s The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He discusses the agrarian myth in some depth and argues that the agrarian populism eventually
evolves into part of the progressive movement. His book is one of the main sources that Peter Filene
argues against in his article questioning the existence progressivism as a movement.
Peter Filene s article presents the idea that Progressivism was not a movement at all but more of a
jumbled mess of similar ideas that occurred around the same period in history. Filene seeks to prove
that the progressive movement never existed. (Article 1, p. 20) He believed that there are too many
discrepancies between the ideas of different historians and that if it were an actual movement that the
definitions of the progressive movement/era would be consistent with each other. The only real
agreement that Filene finds between the many differing opinions is the goals of the time period. He
includes as the standard list of progressive objectives... constraints on monopolies, trusts and big
banking interests; regulation of railroad rates; lower tariffs; the direct primary; initiative, referendum
and recall; direct election of U.S. Senators; women s suffrage; child and female labor laws; pure food
and drug laws and conservation. (Article 1, p. 21) Filene explains the discrepancies between the many
historians views. He then asks the question, with so many different initiatives and so many different
groups working towards similar goals how it can be considered

IPv4 address uses 4 bytes first shows the network shows where in whole world and the last two bytes

Fgc Or Female Genital Cutting Summary
This week s encounter with FGC or Female Genital Cutting disturbed me and my eyes were opened to
some of the harsh realities in the world. Everyone in the class was either assigned to be pro FGC or
against. Based on which side of the argument you were assigned, each side read an article defending
that side, and everyone watched the same documentary on a journey of a young woman in Africa
leading up to her coming of age ceremony involving genital cutting. Throughout the video, you can
tell that FGC is a common and important practice in West African Societies. A teenager named Mary
was preparing for the coming of age ceremony, and the nervousness was noticeable. Someone who
actually does the cutting was interviewed, and she discussed her livelihood and how there is a certain
technique to the practice. Finally the time come for Mary to become a woman and the cutting came
and went. The ceremony was at the very least hard to watch. The pain was clear in the aftermath, but
the celebration continued and Mary seemed fine at the end. Also, a woman named Alice ... Show more

throughout both forms of publishing. Each form however has a different lesson and develops them in
different ways. The book differentiates from the movie in numerous ways. In both the book and the
movie there are many similarities, but there is still diversity. Each form of media develops their
individual themes differently because that makes it more apparent for the viewers to understand and

Jane Yolen wrote The Devil s Arithmetic with the main theme about remembering what
happened, sacrifices, and honoring those who died. Hannah Stern ,a 13 year old girl, is tired of
remembering and doesn t want to go to the Seder. Hannah faces a dream that seems like reality where
she learns what happened in Concentration Camps to the Jews. She learns that she must remember
what happened to the Jews and she learns about sacrifice and honoring the dead. After waking from
her dreams she realizes she must remember the Holocaust, honor the dead Jews, and stay true to her
religion. The Devil s Arithmetic film was made in 1999 based on the book written by Jane Yolen. The
movie highlights the horror and dismay the Jews faced in the camps. Hannah the main character faces
the disheartening nature of these camps in her dream which feels like reality to her. Hannah learns

give it a good twist. If that does not work, insert the spoon in between the lip of the cap and the jar
itself, then push the spoon down toward the jar. Try to relieve the pressure on the jar.
Tip #3
Here is another tip to open that most stubborn jar. Take a cloth, a rubber glove or even a dryer sheet.
Put it over the lid and give it a good twist. The item that you choose will give you a better grip,
making it easier to get the jar lid off.

Tip #4
Another great tip that I have learned over the years is to take the jar, turn it upside down and smack
the bottom with your hand. This will loosen any air pockets or stuck food making the difficult jar
easier to open.
Tip #5
One of my favorite tricks to open a jar that is being so stubborn, is to take a tennis ball and cut it in

Orcas are found in oceans everywhere both hot and humid and also cold from the icy waters of the
North and South poles to sultry seas. The killer whale is the most cosmically huge member of the
dolphin family, and there are about 5 various species of orcas in the oceans.
These amazing creatures hunt in pods that consist of 6 to 40 killer whales. They hunt for gigantic fish,
seal, and sea lion and frequently seabirds and mammals.
The orca s top speed is approximately 30 mph but can travel at 26 mph for long periods of time. It is
normal for an orca to swim more than 50 miles without going up for air.

Comparing Shakespeare s Macbeth And Shakesperes Plays
Generally speaking the mind can react differently to the same prompt due to the structure which it was
formed from. Physcologists say there are ways to trick the mind into seeing or feeling a certain way.
Consequently, how people percieve an act changes depending how it was performed. Whereas
Shakesperes plays brought about an emotional appeal to the readers. Granted , in society today it has
become more complex yet easier to make an act retrieve an emotional response from watchers or
readers. Futhurmore, Willamson and Stewart both perform the same scene from Act 2 Scene 1 of
William Shakespeare s play Macbeth

Particularly, Stewarts background sound is simialr to a heart beat; one can hear the swishing sound of
the blood pumping in and out of the heart. The heartbeat is a key componet in the effectness of
Stewarts version, leaving room for many possible reasons behind it. Consequently , the heart beat
could be representation of Stewarts own heart racing before commiting the deed ahead. Also at the end
of this verison the heart beat stops pumping and the sound stops, implying a death of somesort took
place. In addtion, Stewart uses his vocal cords to howl like a wolf; this sound effect adds to the idea
that Stewarts quest brings forth an excitment/happiness . The howl could be a symbol for a step
towards freedom for Stewart. Simiarly, Williamsons background sound is mere static. The static
embleshies Williamsons verson by adding to the idea of his mind unraveling. While the static aids in
the effeect of Williamsons tone throughout; it is especially affective towards the end of the scene. As a
rule static can be heard at the end of a call with bad reception before the call is dropped. Likewise
static in this version could represent Williamsons state of mind; thus at the closing of the scene the

Medicine And Becoming A Doctor
I was perplexed and concerned when I realized that over the span of about three years my mother had
kept to herself information about her developing anemia, kidney problems due to past kidney stones,
chronic back pain, and now arthritic nodes on her fingers. These are some of the symptoms that I see,
and am reminded of daily, when I am around my hardworking mother, who has motivated me to
pursue a medical degree.
My desire to learn about medicine and become a doctor did not start at a young age or even in high
school. As a high school graduate going into college, my desire was to earn a science degree with the
purpose of attaining an MPH. Overall, what intrigued me the most in this profession was its
involvement in communities and third world countries. It was finally during winter break of my junior
year that I started to have doubts about pursuing an MPH, primarily because of the condition and state
that my mother was in.
Upon hearing her speak about her medical problems I was worried, but above all else concerned by
the irony of how she was always dedicated to taking care of her family, but regrettably not as diligent
about taking care of herself. Her goal was to work hard to provide the best care and nutrition so her
children could grow up healthy. She did her best to fulfill this goal by taking my siblings and me to
regular medical check ups. Whether it was due to indecision, money issues, lack of medical insurance,
or just reason not wanting to worry her family, she,

is a ballet about a young German girl, Clara, who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a battle with a
Mouse King, that was helped to be made famous by a Russian composer, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Along with The Nutcracker , Tchaikovsky composed the works from two other popular ballets, Swan
Lake and Sleeping Beauty . Tchaikovsky and his compositions played a major role in changing and
shaping the face of ballet. Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born on May 7, 1840 in Vyatka, Russia, and

In The Nutcracker , we are introduced to this new instrument, which is the celesta. Tchaikovsky once
wrote to his publisher that the celesta was an instrument that was something between a piano and a
glockenspiel, with a divinely beautiful tone. The impact that Tchaikovsky s own works had on the
ballet set new standards for the classical ballet and the role of music within it. He set this standard
through his mastery of danseuse , or melodies which match physical movements perfectly, vivid
orchestration, effective themes, and continuity of thought (Classic Cat). Many of his well known
ballets, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker , are said to be enduring masterworks and wonderful examples
of nineteenth century classical ballet. Towards the end of the artistic life of the nineteenth century,
ballet began to take a steady position in Tchaikovsky s consciousness. In a sense, both ballet and
Tchaikovsky met one another in the middle. Through this genre of ballet music, Tchaikovsky was able
to bring his unusual way of thinking to life and embody real and eternal feelings within the world of

large scale grid integration of wind power causing concern to the transmission system operators are
low voltage fault through capability, voltage support during large disturbances and unity power factor

The Importance Of Fruits From Early Human Civilization Essay
From the very beginning, humans were hunters and gatherers. They survived by hunting animals and
gathering fruits. Hence, the importance of fruits was from early human civilization. Apples, one of
such fruits with varying benefits, can be made into cider, wine, pie, jelly, brandy or sundried so that
the fruit does not decay because of overproduction. In year 2013, 80.8 million tonns of apple was
produced worldwide, out of which china alone produced 49%. Apple is one of the easily preferable
fruit, as it can be eaten straight away, unlike other fruits which needs to be peeled off. An old proverb
An apple a day keeps a doctor away might also have impacted in favor of this fruit. Apple mostly
consist of water (85%) and carbohydrate or sugars (10%). This makes it very nutritious not only to
humans but also to other microorganisms spoiling it. Spoilage in any food, is the process in which it
gets deteriorates to a point, which makes it unsuitable for human consumption and use. The foods that
are susceptible to spoiling are known as perishable foods and are dependent on various external
factors. Spoilage might occur as soon as it blooms as a flower. Various animals, birds and worms prey
into these nutritious fruits. Once apple is harvested, they start decomposing, because of action of
different enzymes, oxidation and most importantly due to microorganisms. Microorganisms breaks

Occupational Therapy And Eating Disorder Recovery
I struggled to find an occupational therapist to interview for this assignment. Without knowing the big

when I found a professional willing to speak with me.
I interviewed Miranda Phelps from Waterville, Maine. Phelps is a clinical psychologist who has been
practicing since 1998. I found the contact information for Phelps through the eating disorder treatment
team directory from the Eating Disorders Association of Maine. We sat down for the interview on

her to be client centered and she mentioned using various approaches that I am interested in
implementing when I m working with clients that would like to utilize them. These approaches
included reflective listening, narrative therapy and mind body perspectives. Upon arrival I learned that
though Dr. Phelps is on the ED treatment team for the Waterville area, she has not had much
experience in treating individuals with ED but that this was a common thread among all practitioners

Assisted Suicide Should Be Legal
What is assisted suicide? By definition, assisted suicide is suicide committed with the assistance of
another person, usually a physician. This definition has changed slightly from the past. Assisted
suicide used to be defined more as when a terminally ill patient would be assisted in their death by a
doctor or physician. To some, it is a way to end the pain and suffering of a terminally ill loved one. To
others, assisted suicide is considered killing people without giving them a chance. People also believe
that assisted suicide, euthanasia, and hospice care are all the same thing. Assisted suicide is a
worldwide controversy and has been for many years. Questions of morals and ethics come into play
heavily when discussing whether assisted suicide should be legal or not. Assisted suicide is legal in
only five states in the United States. Oregon being the first of those states, legalized assisted suicide
back in the 1990s. Canada on the other hand, only has assisted suicide legalized in one Province. That
province is Quebec and their definition of assisted suicide leans closer to being euthanasia which
causes more controversy to whether assisted suicide should be legal in Canada. Other countries have a
much more strict outlook on the issue. There are many positive uses for what is called assisted suicide
that can help alleviate people s pain and suffering in a beneficial way to the patient and family;
however with assisted suicide comes the negative factors when ethics

Slowly it dawns that we are not the master of our minds but actually the slaves of our minds. There is
failure, there is frustration, there is anger, there is plain discomfort when we resort to Mauna in sincere

of natural pride and arrogance, generous and leads us to take a humane approach to other people s
shortcomings. When we stop giving the mind what it likes and wants i.e. when we practice Mauna, we
will realize that our own mind is not any better than anyone else s mind...
We thought that we are super nice and calm people, but not really.....
We thought that we are patient and compassionate people, but not really...

Thus, the practice of Mauna enables to see the truth of our own minds. It makes us more

The purpose of Mauna is to turn our attention inward. As we tune into our inner space we are able to

entomologists to observe various type of insects for the estimate time of death. The type of insects that
are located on the dead body and the surrounding area depends on the geographical location such as
urban and rural areas, and environmental temperatures. One of the most common type of insects that a
forensic entomologist will notice is a blowfly. A blowfly can withstand any type of environmental
temperatures in all geographical areas. Blowflies are attracted to fresh dead corpses and can indicate
that the victim s death just occurred. However, the presence of maggots feeding on the flesh of the
body can inform entomologist that the blowfly laid eggs and the body has been there for some time.
Maggots are important because they must complete a life cycle to transform into blowfly. The blow
fly life cycle has six parts, and each cycle various in time of completion. To figure out what time the
death occurred, entomologists would examine a maggot that is more developed than the others. On the
other hand, if there are empty pupal cases collected from the body, entomologists can determine that a
fly has completed an entire life cycle and the body was there for one hundred and forty three hours
(Life Cycle of the Blowfly, 2014) or 6 days. The presence of beetles is a

  • 2. The Long Profile Of A River Introduction In this investigation, I will be investigating the changes along the long profile of a river. In order to do this, I will be collecting data and making observations at three different points along the river; the upper course, the middle course, and the lower course. The river which I will be conducting my observations would be on Bartley Water. Bartley Water is a river going through the New Forest which is located in the south of the UK, Hampshire. The source of the river begins from Bartley, 109m above sea level, and joins to its end at Eling, flowing into Southampton Water. The river has a length of 27km and a catchment area of 40sqkm. It is a tributary of the River Test. The river bed contains of a mixture of sand, silt and clay which can change as the river behaves due to erosion, transportation and deposition. The sites which I will be investigating on are: Site one is at Buskett s Lawn, grid reference: 309109 Site two is at Woodlands, grid reference: 325006 Site three is at Eling, grid reference: 362124 The surroundings of these areas differ at each site. Site one is mostly rural areas whereas, when it moves onto the last site, it becomes an urban area. These will affect on the course and direction of the river and its characteristics. The long profile of a river describes how the characteristics of the river vary from the upper course to the lower course. A quicker and easier way to present this idea is through a Bradshaw Model (see the diagram on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Geologists And Tourists At The Taupo Volcanic Zone ( Tvz... Introduction In this report, I will be explaining two surface features which are visually interesting to geologists and tourists in the Taupo Volcanic Zone (TVZ), Lake Taupo, and Mt Ruapehu. Lake Taupo is a main tourist attraction as it is the largest lake in New Zealand with a beautiful scenery perfect for activities like recreational fishing and sky diving. Furthermore, it generates electrical energy via the Waikato river that is used by people all around waikato. Mt Ruapehu is also a tourist attraction as the highest peak on the North Island with two major ski fields and only glaciers on its slopes. Creation Believe it or not, both surface features are active volcanoes. Lake Taupo a caldera, and Mt Ruapehu a stratovolcano. These volcanoes were formed because TVZ is a convergent plate boundary where the Pacific (Oceanic) plate which is more dense ,is getting subducted under the Australian (Continental) crust which is less dense. This is being driven by a force called convection which happens in the asthenosphere which is fluid. It is when the fluid near the core heats up, and rises due to it s low density compared to the surrounding fluid. This fluid then cools down and sinks due to it s high density compared to the surrounding fluid. It therefore gets near to the core again and so, repeats the cycle. The direction of the convection can cause plate boundaries opposite and away from each other will result in divergent plate boundaries and opposite but towards each ... • 5. Disadvantages Of Online Recruiting The Advantage and Disadvantage of Online Recruiting After completing the chapters reading at Bethel University, this student have learned that more and more companies are utilizing online recruiting as there main source of hiring process for their organizations. Online job sites have transformed the recruitment landscape for both employers and job seekers and largely increased the efficiency with which hiring decisions can take place. In addition to the now conventional social networking recruitment tools, recruiters may find the use of more targeted association sites to help narrow the candidate pool and make sure efforts are not being wasted on uninterested parties. Local business forums, supported by a city or regional website, frequently have job boards hosting local businesses and may also keep member directories and contact information useful to recruiters. Industry sites typically have databases of resumes and direct discussion environments that can facilitate direct electronic contact with a candidate. As for this adult student, one would be more attracted to company that uses online recruiting methods for their hiring process. Bethel, (2011), Online recruitment is the process of using the Internet to actively seek out and recruit talented candidates for an organization. The Internet has quickly become one of the primary recruitment tools for both internal recruitment and talent acquisition committees and third party companies (p.144). Advantages and ... • 6. The Prayer Of The Sacred For most religions, the sacred feels as though it is out of reach or untouchable. One typically cannot have a direct conversation with whom they consider sacred, so they pray to their god(s), hoping that their prayers will be heard and answered. Another aspect of following a religion is having a deep feeling of either love, respect or fear for the sacred. No matter the feeling, it is critical for one who follows it to reach out with prayer and tell their sacred how they feel, profess their faith and ask for guidance. Inside sacred texts, there may be scriptures which are considered privileged and normative for a particular tradition (Sacred Quest. Cunningham). Scriptures such as The Lord s Prayer or the Shema follow that definition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Christianity, Heaven is the holy place where one who deserves it, goes after death. It is considered among Christians a place where there is no pain, no sadness, only happiness and light. Next, it says , hallowed be thy name (Lord s Prayer. Traditional).. Essentially the speaker is again, acknowledging not only the importance of the name of the sacred, but again reiterating that the sacred is so far above the speaker, that they must address that even as they are speaking to him. The next line goes, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is Heaven (Lord s Prayer. Traditional).. The speaker is saying that they bode to the will of their Lord, though he is in Heaven and they are on Earth. No matter the distance between the sacred and the speaker, they will do the Lords bidding as he says. Next it goes, Give us this day, our daily bread (Lord s Prayer. Traditional).. The meaning behind this line is that the speaker is asking the sacred to give them the day and the time and the means to do get through it. Religion is a very powerful entity and when people are going through struggles, often they will turn to the sacred for guidance and help. The speaker is asking the Lord to help them get through what they are going through by giving them what they need to do it, (i.e. the daily bread). Next, the speaker says And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us (Lord s Prayer. Traditional).. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Factors Affecting The Deficiency Of Vitamin Vitamin A (VA) is an essential nutrient which is needed in small amounts for the normal functioning of the visual system, growth and development, immune function and reproduction. Severe deficiency of VA is known to produce corneal xerophthalmia, keratomalacia and blindness in children and it is mainly seen amongst the young children, because they have high requirements due to increased physical growth and have low dietary intake. India has the highest prevalence of clinical and subclinical VA deficiency among South Asian countries. Poverty, culture and nutrition education are the major contributing factors for this vitamin deficiency. Around one million children suffer from vitamin A deficiency in India at any one point of time because of poverty (UNICEF, 1998). Leafy vegetables which appear to be the only practical source of dietary carotenes are not generally consumed by the poor rural families (Devadas, 1983). In India reports concluded that 62% of preschool children were reported to be deficient in vitamin A. These dramatic results suggest high mortality rate, leading to an annual 330,000 child deaths (Mitra AK, 1998). To conclude this, the above statistics are suggest that poverty is the sole contributor to almost 50% of the Vitamin A deficiency among the population of India. However, poverty is not only the cause for the deficiency. Other factors like culture and consumption pattern of food play a key role in affecting the deficiency of Vitamin A. Examining the general food pattern of families is a necessary first step in order to understand food patterns of vulnerable individuals. In India, the majority of families eat three meals a day and the first meal of the day often consists of the leftovers from the previous night. Several ethnic and economic factors prevent people from consuming some foods like eggs, meat and fish which are good sources of Vitamin A. • 9. Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall Essay Working Together in Robert Frost s Mending Wall The air is cool and crisp. Roosters can be heard welcoming the sun to a new day and a woman is seen, wearing a clean colorful wrap about her body and head, her shadow casting a lone silhouette on the stone wall. The woman leans over to slide a piece of paper into one of the cracks, hoping her prayer will be heard in this city of Jerusalem. Millions are inserting their prayers into the walls of Japanese temples, while an inmate in one of a hundred prisons across the United States looks past his wall toward the prayers he did not keep. Billions fall asleep each night surrounded by four walls and thousands travel to China to witness the grandest one of all. Who builds walls and who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He blames it upon the cold ravages of a winter swell and the indifferent attitude of hunters searching out a hare. By leaving the question a mystery the speaker is able to entertain himself with fantasies of elves and ideas of fiction, to fill a winter s long mind made mischievious by the spring season (Lentricchia 105). In defense of why a wall should be maintained the farmer merely states his father s saying, Good fences make good neighbors (Frost 28). The farmer does not have any real proof of why the wall should be put back each spring, when there is no threat of livestock crossing the borders. When questioned a second time he gave the same answer and again without giving the reason why fences make good neighbors. Family tradition and work ethic seem to be this farmer s motivation. He seeks to get the wall completed where the speaker appears more entertained by the activity (Barry 145). The farmer s mechanical repair of the fence is imagined in the eyes of the speaker as an old stone savage armed (Stanford 40). Before attitudes can be discussed first the poem s moral must be decided. Mending Wall does not take the approach of right and wrong, rather it shows two perspectives. There is the speaker who seeks a release from the dull ritual of work each spring and the farmer, who is trapped by work and the New England past (Lentricchia 106). Two ... • 11. Intercultural Communication Essay Communication can be performed through the utilisation of languages, such as English. Presently, English has become a favourable and prominent tool for interaction among people of different cultural backgrounds. The high demand in acquiring English for fields such as international politics, science and technology has led to the global spread of the language. Consequently, English is recognised as an international language, and its ownership is considered to be denationalised and renationalised. The understanding of this ownership status is crucial in establishing an effective practice of intercultural communication, by acknowledging the variations of English and cultural differences in communication styles within classroom and business contexts. First, since English has become an international language, its ownership is regarded as denationalised and renationalised. The concept of denationalisation proposed by Smith suggests that English is no longer just owned by countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States, but by various other countries around the world that also use the language. Kachru also argued that a global English should not only be restricted to the official use by colonial countries of the United Kingdom and the United States, and it is not a necessity to internalise the native speakers norms. It is said that the process of denationalisation results in renationalisation, in which, according to McKay, involves English localisation the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, Wonder Woman is given these empowering qualities, the comic book artists clothed this female character with clothing that sexualizes them greatly because of the amount of skin that is being revealed. The suits that these female superheroes are shown to be wearing stimulates this sensual excitement to the male audience which erupts these superheroes to receive a greater amount of attention than those female superheroes who do not necessarily reveal as much skin. Similar to the group of girls described in Rat Queens, the female superhero, Wonder Woman, contributes to the way these adolescent girls are being judged for the appearance they should resemble. According to An Analysis of Embodiment Among Six Superheroes in DC Comics , the author, Edward Avery Natale, has incorporated astonishing research on the presentation of female superheroes in comic books. Life of Workers in Staithes Essay Close by the giant textile mill row on row on row of drab terrace houses huddle together as if to fend off the bitter cold of a winter night in December of 1811. Night obscures the narrow streets of the industrial village of Holmeside as morning s hesitant light pokes through the canopy of dismal clouds. Inside the mill, workers have been toiling for hours. They rose from their beds early and put on their work clothing. The lucky ones ate a crust of bread and drank the remains of yesterday s milk before stepping out into the chilly darkness to make their way to the mill. They carried the smallest children. Many believed that the working poor were not fully human, but a bestial and inferior species, unlike themselves, specifically supplied by Providence as servants through whose labour they ran profitable enterprises. The poor were seen as a raw material in the same class as wool and cotton. They were cheap to employ and easy to replace. Those that looked down on workers failed to see that working conditions in textile mills were why workers were afflicted with conditions for which no treatment existed. These early morning people move in procession through the streets, uniting with others at street junctions to form broader streams, merging with other streams as they neared the mill to form a grand current of humanity closing on the massive iron gates of the mill that were symbols of imprisonment. Once inside the gates, workers fanned out to go to various work stations to work as machine minders in the manufactory. This was the common condition of men, women, and children in the hard textile country of Yorkshire s West Riding. The characters of Yorkshire folk were forged in the crucibles of harsh terrain and exacting industrial environments. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He just recently passed away last year on June 23, 2016. During those 89 years of life, Mr. Stanley sure made a name for himself to be remembered for many years after he was gone. There were two things that made him stand out from many of the bluegrass artists. Those things were his original voice and his unique way of picking the banjo. Mr. Stanleys mother bought him his first banjo for five dollars when he was around 15 or 16. His mother taught him to play clawhammer style on the banjo and later in life he developed his own style from this strumming style. After graduation from high school in May of 1945, he went into the Army for about a year. The mix of Ralph Stanley s high pitch unique voice, Vince Gills soft, smooth tone, and Patty Loveless honky tonk style blended very well. Some other instruments besides the banjo were guitar, fiddle, and the mandolin. To no surprise, all of these instruments are very prone to being involved in the bluegrass genre. • 17. Diagnostic Lab Problem Statement Cell filtration is often necessary for diagnostic lab tests. One example of this is for cystic fibrosis patients. Individuals with cystic fibrosis often get lung infections due to the thick mucus in their lungs. In order to prescribe antibiotics for these lung infections, a bacterial culture needs to be performed, which requires bacterial samples to be separated from the thick mucus of sputum. Passive filtration is the most commonly used type of filtration in cell sorting for diagnostic purposes and extorts cells physical properties (Yoon et al., 2016). Dead end filtration is a form of passive filtration where the filtrate is added perpendicularly to the filter (Yoon et al., 2016). While dead end filtration is relatively easy to perform, larger particles can block the filter, stopping the flow of filtrate through the filter. This blockage problem causes dead end filtration to be underutilized (Mugnier, Howell, Ruf, 2000). It has been shown that a cycle of forward and backward flushes can dislodge larger particles from the filter allowing more of the smaller particles to rush through the filter pores (Smith, Vigneswaran, Ngo, Ben Aim, Nguyen, 2005) but what percentage of backward flush is most efficient in a duty cycle with a constant amount ... The religious controversies haunted Paine throughout his life. His personal life ended in divorce and destitution. After barely avoiding debtor s prison in 1774, a mutual friend introduced Paine to Benjamin. This introduction would change the course of Paine s life. Franklin was immediately impressed with Paine and wrote a letter of introduction for him. Paine suffered physical illness on his journey that very nearly killed him, but he managed to survive the trip and arrived in Philadelphia September of 1774. After this new start, Paine began his career of publishing articles and pamphlets in the colonies. His first published essay was African Slavery in America. This article argued that slavery was unjust and inhumane. Paine also wrote and co edited the Pennsylvania Magazine. He used this format to express new ideas and learn about his audience. In January of 1776, Paine published Common Sense, which would unite his fellow colonists on a path to either freedom or high treason. Paine continued to publish throughout the ensuing revolution. He published a series of essays titled the American Crisis Papers. • 19. The Corrupted Christ Figure In The Poisonwood Bible The Corrupted Christ Figure A Christ figure can share attributes with Jesus and be the antagonist of the story. In Thomas C. Foster s novel How to Read Literature like a Professor, he analyzes what a Christ figure looks like in literature. He argues that a character who shares personality traits and or physical characteristics with Christ is a representation and reflection of Jesus. Similarly, in Barbara Kingsolver s novel The Poisonwood Bible, her character Nathan Price believes he is synonymous to Christ while in reality, he is far from perfect. She uses irony to exploit the idea of the Christ figure. The use of irony as seen in Kingsolver s novel, up ends Foster s claims as to what makes a Christ figure by creating a character who assumes he is Christ yet does not reflect Christ s attributes. A Christ figure represents the attributes of Christ in the way they live. Foster expands on this idea by arguing a list of characteristics regarding Jesus. As readers, he claims, while we may not be all that versed in types and archetypes from the Bible, we generally recognize, whatever our religious affiliation, some of the features that make Christ who he is (Foster 125). If Christ s attributes reflect themselves in a character, readers can use their knowledge to assume the character is a Christ figure. Likewise, Kingsolver uses Nathan Price as an examples of a Christ figure. Nathan comes to the Congo to redeem an unworthy people, has disciples (his family), and wanders the ... A major ideology that developed during this time was the American Dream. According to Merriam Webster, the American Dream is a happy way of living... that can be achieved by anyone... by working hard and becoming successful. Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman critiques this ideology through the outcome of Willy s life and in light of Karl Marx s ideas in Alienation. One way Miller critiques the American Dream is through Marx s idea of proprietors and propertyless. Marx states in Alienated Labor that the whole society is divided into two classes of proprietors and propertyless (171). Throughout the story, the audience learns Willy is part of the propertyless. This is demonstrated when Willy and Linda have a conversation about the refrigerator. Linda mentions how they are close to paying it off, but Willy replies that it just broke again (73). In light of Marx, since Willy is not able to own his refrigerator, he is part of the propertyless. On the other hand, Howard, Willy s boss, is a proprietor. Along with The Nutcracker , Tchaikovsky composed the works from two other popular ballets, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty . Tchaikovsky and his compositions played a major role in changing and shaping the face of ballet. Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born on May 7, 1840 in Vyatka, Russia, and was a Russian composer of the Romantic era. He composed many different types of works, including symphonies, operas, ballets, instrumental and chamber music, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In The Nutcracker , we are introduced to this new instrument, which is the celesta. Tchaikovsky once wrote to his publisher that the celesta was an instrument that was something between a piano and a glockenspiel, with a divinely beautiful tone. The impact that Tchaikovsky s own works had on the ballet set new standards for the classical ballet and the role of music within it. He set this standard through his mastery of danseuse , or melodies which match physical movements perfectly, vivid orchestration, effective themes, and continuity of thought (Classic Cat). Many of his well known ballets, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker , are said to be enduring masterworks and wonderful examples of nineteenth century classical ballet. Towards the end of the artistic life of the nineteenth century, ballet began to take a steady position in Tchaikovsky s consciousness. In a sense, both ballet and Tchaikovsky met one another in the middle. Through this genre of ballet music, Tchaikovsky was able to bring his unusual way of thinking to life and embody real and eternal feelings within the world of art ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the end this paper provides quantitative calculations for determining the reactive power compensation needed for unity power factor operation by a fixed speed squirrel cage induction generator based wind turbines. Keywords: Reactive power support, fixed speed, variable speed, Wind Turbine, Grid code 1. Introduction Since the last decade, there has been an increased growth in the electricity production through wind power [8]. Such increasing penetration levels of wind power in to the total generation mix has raised several concerns to the transmission system operators. Some of the issues related to large scale grid integration of wind power causing concern to the transmission system operators are low voltage fault through capability, voltage support during large disturbances and unity power factor operation [7]. This has made the regulators and transmission system operators to introduce new grid standards and requirements for wind farms to make sure the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hence, the importance of fruits was from early human civilization. Apples, one of such fruits with varying benefits, can be made into cider, wine, pie, jelly, brandy or sundried so that the fruit does not decay because of overproduction. In year 2013, 80.8 million tonns of apple was produced worldwide, out of which china alone produced 49%. • 38. Occupational Therapy And Eating Disorder Recovery I struggled to find an occupational therapist to interview for this assignment. Without knowing the big movers in the field of occupational therapy and eating disorder recovery, I felt I was grasping at nothing. I did actively pursue many authors of papers that focused on OT and ED but received no response. This was regardless of my mode of communication, zero phone calls back and emails unresponsive. I decided to change my approach to this and stepped outside of the field of OT. This is when I found a professional willing to speak with me. I interviewed Miranda Phelps from Waterville, Maine. Phelps is a clinical psychologist who has been practicing since 1998. I found the contact information for Phelps through the eating disorder treatment team directory from the Eating Disorders Association of Maine. We sat down for the interview on March 2nd at her Waterville office. I chose to pursue this interview with Phelps because I perceived her to be client centered and she mentioned using various approaches that I am interested in implementing when I m working with clients that would like to utilize them. These approaches included reflective listening, narrative therapy and mind body perspectives. Upon arrival I learned that though Dr. Phelps is on the ED treatment team for the Waterville area, she has not had much experience in treating individuals with ED but that this was a common thread among all practitioners in the state of Maine. • 39. Assisted Suicide Should Be Legal What is assisted suicide? By definition, assisted suicide is suicide committed with the assistance of another person, usually a physician. This definition has changed slightly from the past. Assisted suicide used to be defined more as when a terminally ill patient would be assisted in their death by a doctor or physician. To some, it is a way to end the pain and suffering of a terminally ill loved one. To others, assisted suicide is considered killing people without giving them a chance. People also believe that assisted suicide, euthanasia, and hospice care are all the same thing. Assisted suicide is a worldwide controversy and has been for many years. Questions of morals and ethics come into play heavily when discussing whether assisted suicide should be legal or not. Assisted suicide is legal in only five states in the United States. Oregon being the first of those states, legalized assisted suicide back in the 1990s. Canada on the other hand, only has assisted suicide legalized in one Province. That province is Quebec and their definition of assisted suicide leans closer to being euthanasia which causes more controversy to whether assisted suicide should be legal in Canada. Other countries have a much more strict outlook on the issue. There are many positive uses for what is called assisted suicide that can help alleviate people s pain and suffering in a beneficial way to the patient and family; however with assisted suicide comes the negative factors when ethics ... By utilizing chromatography, a forensic analyst can identify each material and/or chemical that were meshed together to form the sample under investigation. The identification can be determined once the sample is placed in a liquid or when absorbed on a solid surface, and the separation of the molecules becomes either mobile or stationary. This basic analytical technique is beneficial with classifying drugs that has been collected from a crime scene and transported to a crime laboratory for analyses. There are four main variations of chromatography, however, Gas Chromatography is the most widely used technique (Woodford, 2017). In most cases, a deceased victim experienced a violent attack that may have resulted in open wounds and exposed flesh. Once a person blood supply stops and their respiratory system shuts down, decomposition begins immediately (What Are The Four Stages of Human Decomposition, 2017). As a result, bodily fluids and gasses are released from the body into the air and emanates a distinctive smell which attract insects. When insects are present at the scene of the crime, investigators rely on forensic entomologists to observe various type of insects for the estimate time of death. The type of insects that are located on the dead body and the surrounding area depends on the geographical location such as urban and rural areas, and environmental temperatures. One of the most common type of insects that a forensic entomologist will notice is a blowfly. A blowfly can withstand any type of environmental temperatures in all geographical areas. Blowflies are attracted to fresh dead corpses and can indicate that the victim s death just occurred. However, the presence of maggots feeding on the flesh of the body can inform entomologist that the blowfly laid eggs and the body has been there for some time. Maggots are important because they must complete a life cycle to transform into blowfly. The blow fly life cycle has six parts, and each cycle various in time of completion. To figure out what time the death occurred, entomologists would examine a maggot that is more developed than the others. On the other hand, if there are empty pupal cases collected from the body, entomologists can determine that a fly has completed an entire life cycle and the body was there for one hundred and forty three hours (Life Cycle of the Blowfly, 2014) or 6 days.
