1. 3: Teaching Activities of the fourth of July to Russian students that just arrived to the United
States (they do speak English) , ages 10 to 19, 15 in total ….8 males and 7 females. They are all
vision impaired.
A: Analyze Learners
General Characteristics:
All students are Russian.
Eight boy and seven girls
Their ages range between 10 and 19.
All vision impaired
Learning Styles:
Mostly auditory due to vision impairments. Hands on will be something to work on as
well.
Entry Competencies:
May know some things about the Fourth of July – ask questions first
S: State Objectives
By the end of the week my pupils will sing the star spangled banner with 100% accuracy
by singing along to the song via youtube videos throughout the week.
By the end of the week my pupils will bring in dishes (or small sample if a full dish is not
plausible due to family needs) appropriate for a Fourth of July Celebration with 100% accuracy
after tasting and smelling samples throughout the week. (Can pair up with one other classmate so
there is less pressure)
2. S: Select Methods, Medias, and Materials
Method: Singing the Star Spangled Banner
Media: The song “Star Spangled Banner”
Material: YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPKp29Luryc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i426pbQJZ_g
Method: Allowing students to taste and touch food served at a cookout
Media: Show and Tell, of a sort. I will tell them what it is they are dealing with.
Material: Hamburgers, hotdogs, macaroni salad, and potato salad.
U: Utilize Media and Materials
I will double check to make sure that YouTube is working along with the computer
before I allow the students to listen to the song. As for the food, I will prepare it myself and bring
it in.
R: Require Learner Participation
The children will have to attentively listen to the song and eventually sing along before
we take away the words altogether. As I introduce them to the food they will have to let me
know whether they like or dislike it, as well as truly try it and give it a chance. (Unless allergic to
any ingredient)
E: Evaluate and Revise
Depending on how well the students do by the end of the week, with the song, will
determine whether it will be used in future classes. As for the food, if less children than I initially
hoped are able to bring in food, then this activity will be swapped out in the future.
