Adolescents Attitudes Towards Driving Under The Influence...
Abstract
This qualitative study will focus on adolescents attitudes towards driving under the influence of drugs.
Adolescents will watch a documentary on drugged driving and then will be interviewed on their
attitudes towards driving under the influence of drugs and their intentions to do so. Student s
experiences will be captured at three data points (i.e., prior to viewing the documentary, after watching
the documentary, and 30 days after watching the documentary).
Keywords: adolescents, driving, drugs, drugged driving, intervention, young adults
Still to be added somewhere in the introduction or existing literature once it has citations:
Adolescence is a time when a child transition into their teenage years. Throughout this duration many
altercations can transpire diagonally through their cognitive development. A vital factor includes
development of cognitive control. Cognitive control contains essential mind processing which
includes effective recollection, and awareness in the midst of others.
A Qualitative Study on Adolescents Attitude About Drugs and Driving After Viewing a Documentary
Film
The human brain undergoes significant developmental changes through adolescence and into young
adulthood (White, 2003). The most critical changes to the brain during this time occur in the frontal
lobes (White, 2003). Specifically, these changes are seen in the prefrontal cortex (Steinberg, 2005).
The prefrontal cortex is the control center for cognition and its

Final Three Crusades Essay
Catholicism is a religion based upon the commandments instilled by Jesus Christ Son of God. The
final three crusades were uncontrolled by the pope and led to rape, theft, pillaging, a dark past that has
shaped the future of Catholicism today. The Roman Catholic crusades where Catholic wars started to
try and regain control over Jerusalem (the holy land), and to expand the religion, the final three
crusades however derived from the initial purpose and led to destruction. The purpose of the research I
have done over Roman Catholic Crusades is to get a deeper understanding as to why the Catholic
leaders used Crusades to expand their religious beliefs and the outcomes both good and bad of the
crusades. The first three crusades were initiated to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The crusades where intended to spread Christianity Universally. However many of the actions during
the crusades did not promote peace as they where intended (William J.). Many Europeans feeling the
need to join the cause in crusades, joined the cause with nothing but wooden crosses, many people
abandoned their homes to join on the journey. Crusades left many people dead in the Middle East.
Jerusalem being the major goal of conquest of the crusaders in the end many of the crusades failed or
simply turned back (Brown, Bryan). Europeans used Crusades to expand Christianity. The Crusades
where considered unsuccessful. Many of them brought tragedy to local Christians, which was part of
the reason of the failure in the crusades. The crusades however did leave some practices instilled in the
later religions that where to be made. Through these crusades a lot of the new religions adapted
practices that are now influential in there religious practices (William E.). Emilie Gogalak gives us an
interesting out look of how crusades brought together many faiths. She also gives us a belief that
maybe the crusades where not sparked for religious beliefs but simply for power and money (Emilie

The Impact of Charlemagne Upon Europe Essay
Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, reigned during a time of much turmoil and upheaval in Europe
during middle ages. Charlemagne s background and family history contributed much to his rise to
power. The triumphs of his past lineage prepared him to take on the task of governing the Frankish
Empire, and defending it from invaders. Charlemagne accomplished much during his supremacy. He
not only brought education back into medieval Europe, but also invented an efficient way to govern
his people. His conquests against the many adversaries of the Holy Roman Empire expanded his
empire across the majority of Europe. His conquests also formed strong ties between the Catholic
Church and the State. Charlemagne s drive to convert Europe s primitive ... Show more content on

Charles Martel, or Charles the Hammer, considered one of the greatest to hold the title Mayor of the
Palace , succeeded the position in 732 (Abrams 186). He gained high admiration and respect from the
Frankish people for his feats against the Muslims trying to gain passage into Europe (Abrams 186),
and imparted much wisdom to an equally respected ruler, his grandson, Charlemagne. By this time,
the Franks thought of the mayors more as kings instead of stewards considering that they had
complete control over the empire and its people. Charlemagne s Father, Pepin III, more commonly
known as Pepin the Short, assumed the position of Mayor in 751 (Davis 54). During his reign, Pepin
defended Rome against a barbarian tribe called the Lombards, which strengthened the relationship
between the church and the state that later would contribute to Charlemagne s sovereignty as Holy
Roman Emperor (Davis 54). Pepin died in 768, dividing the now much larger Frankish empire
between his two sons Charlemagne and Carolmen (Davis 54). Carolmen died in 771 and left
Charlemagne as the sole ruler of the Frankish empire (Davis 54). The era when the mayors ruled the
Franks up until Charlemagne s death acquired the title The Carolingian Dynasty in Western Europe
(Jenkins 123). From the passing of both his Father and brother, Charlemagne continued into his
kingship over the Frankish Empire.

Compulsory Heterosexuality and
Lesbian Existence
Adrienne Rich
Adrienne Rich s essay constitutes a powerful challenge to some of our least examined sexual
assumptions. Rich turns all the familiar arguments on their heads: If the first erotic bond is to the
mother, she asks, could not the natural sexual orientation of both men and women be toward women?
Rich s radical questioning has been a major intellectual force in the general feminist reorientation to
sexual matters in recent years, and her conception of a lesbian continuum sparked especially intense
debate. Does lesbianism incorporate all support systems and intense interactions among women, or is

Journal Article Review Essay
Journal Article Review I Lauren Pedersen Liberty University Journal Article Review Summary
Spousal emotional abuse is ongoing, significant problem, impacting nearly 35% of women. Emotional
abuse by a spouse or romantic partner can often lead to negative psychological outcomes, including
depression, anxiety, low self esteem, posttraumatic stress disorder, learned helplessness, and
resentment of the abuser that persists even when the abuse ends. There have not been designated
therapies designed to help these women. Gayle L. Reed and Robert D. Enright (2006) examine the
roles forgiveness therapy has on emotionally abused women in the article The Effects of Forgiveness
Therapy on Depression, Anxiety, and Posttraumatic Stress for Women ... Show more content on

The women completed an array of measures, including self reports and tests. The scores based on
these pretests were compared to the posttests after the study was completed. Once they were paired
and randomly placed into either the forgiveness therapy group or the alternate group, the women
underwent weekly counseling sessions. The researchers conducted a matched pair t tests and
compared the gain scores from the pretest and posttest for each group. They also compared the pretest
to the follow up appointment. The results of the study demonstrated that the participants in the FT
treatment group showed a significant difference in self esteem, everyday decisions, moral decisions,
and in survivor status. This group also showed a significantly greater reduction in depression, anxiety,
and posttraumatic stress symptoms (Gayle amp; Enright, 2006). The Effects of Forgiveness Therapy
on Depression, Anxiety, and Posttraumatic Stress for Women After Spousal Emotional Abuse
demonstrates the importance finding a specific therapy that is designed to help the women suffering
from this abuse. The results from this study, conducted by Gayle amp; Enright (2006) illustrates that
forgiveness therapy can help improve a women s self esteem and ameliorate the negative effects of
this abuse, including depression and anxiety. This study provides a concrete

Active Learning Strategies Analysis
Active learning strategies consist of a large and different variety of activities that share the common
factors of involving students in thinking about the knowledge and information they are doing
(Bonwell Eison 1991). These strategies are used to engage students in critical thinking,
communication with peers, expressing ideas, exploring their own attitudes and values, giving and
receiving feedback, and reflecting on the learning process. These strategies are done with the students
inside or outside the class, completed by working as individuals or in groups, and can be done with or
without the use of technology. When the instructors use active learning strategies, they will typically

In my grade3 class, I use the Pair Share and the Close Reading strategies, I read about these strategies
before, and now I am applying them in my class. The Pair Share Strategy is one of the ways that let
students talk about an issue or topic in class is to use the think/write pair share method. (Lyman,
1992). In this strategy, I present a problem in the class and then give students 30 seconds to one
minute to think about or write out their response. Then, the students pair up and explain their
responses to one another for 3 to 5 minutes. Finally, the results are discussed, this technique takes only
about 4 to 6 minutes of class time, and it could be done once in each class session. This strategy has
worked successfully in my English class, where I introduced a topic about Community Service I asked
my students to think about the role of community service work then I asked them individually about
their decision and choices about doing a community service work. The class was asked to do
community service work and students who changed their ideas and thoughts about it are asked why
they did so. The Close Reading Strategy improves reading comprehension and provides engagement
in the subject (Bass Linkon, 2009). In class, I model how to read and interpret a passage while the
students follow in their books. After that, some students may be called individually to read aloud and
interpret similar selections. After reading passages of a story, students will be divided into groups of
three or two and be asked to talk about and decide what the selection means, and then paraphrasing it
in their own words. I will ask the groups to give their interpretations and analysis before providing my
analysis. This technique worked well with grade 3 students, where they had to do this strategy every
time we start a new reading

Difference Between Dominate And Recessive Genes
What is the difference between dominate and recessive genes?
Genes help determine the characteristics and traits consisting of: eye, skin, hair color, etc. Each gene
contains two alleles one coming from the mother and the other from the father, one being dominant
and the other recessive. The dominant allele is typically expressed, while the recessive are not
generally expressed. A dominant allele makes a pair with a recessive allele. The dominant allele
determines the traits visibly expressed as phenotypes the genetic code working behind a trait in known
as the genotype (Your Genome, 2016).
What is the difference between heterozygous and homozygous expression of genes?
The genetic material that determines the trait is known as the genotype, which at times it is said to be
homozygous (a person containing two recessive/two dominant alleles coming from both parents) or
heterozygous (a person having one recessive/one dominant allele from both parents). It is typically
common for a child to have brown eyes when one parent has a recessive allele and the other a
dominant allele allowing it to override the other. However, if both parents have brown eyes, but
contribute the recessive allele the child will have blue eyes. This is not always the case as genetic
inheritance is not always simple as we see some people having eyes that are green, one brown, and
one blue (CCCOE, 2016).

The First Signs Of Music Therapy Essay
The use of music for therapy has been seen to exist for almost as long as the start of therapy itself. At
around 400 B.C., Hippocrates, a Greek physician known for his tremendous contributions to modern
medicine, was shown to be the first human to use music as a way to therapeutically treat mental
patients. Since then, records of other civilizations such as the Egyptians, Arabians, and even the
Native Americans show signs of the use of music in medicine. This form of therapy was said to help
align the soul and the body together. However, it was not until the 18th century that researchers have
studied how music affects the nerves themselves (Gouk, 2004). The first signs of music therapy used
in the modern world were predominantly in the United Kingdom after World War I (Degmecic, 2005).
Musicians played to war veterans suffering from both mental and physical trauma to help alleviate
their pain. As these veterans were seen having positive responses to the music played, doctors hired
more musicians to help play at veteran hospitals. Seeing the positive feedback and recovery of the
veterans prompted the use of music therapy to become an actual academic curriculum taught in
college courses. Currently, the leading organization that focuses primarily on music therapy is the
American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) which was formed in 1998. Their team of music
therapists has helped countless of patients improve both their physical and emotional help with the use
of music. Music

Slumdog Millionaire
The movie Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, gives us an insight of Jamal and Salim s
way of surviving in the slums of India, despite the hardships they face. With their mother gone from
their lives at such a young age, the two brothers are left to fend for themselves. However, salim makes
many decisions that affect those around him severely. He is selfish, he lies to protect himself and turns
to a life of crime to pull him through everything. Salim has proven time after time that the selfish
decisions he makes result in him choosing his own destiny in life.

Respect The Elderly By Mark Twain
Respect the elderly. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is one hundred and thirty years old, yet
unfailingly manages to fascinate, infuriate, and inspire its readership. The novel rests on many a
bookshelf and regularly appears on lists of literary legends though it is equally likely to top a list of
controversial and profane works. Certainly, there is no other book in the oeuvre of Mark Twain that
commands attention more deservedly than Huckleberry Finn. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is
the decided champion of American novels due to its adherence to the , authentic characters and tone,
timeless social commentary, and immeasurable impact on contemporary literature. The red, white, and
blue, the stars and stripes; none of it stacks up in the presence of a boy, a river, and a raft.
True to its title, the novel is an adventure story. It describes an escapade from point A to point B,
encountering choreographed misfortunes and recoveries along the way. In the grand scheme of things,
this work is a commentary on more than just a float along the Mississippi with a friend, but first, to
address the superficial. Though The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is considerably more loaded
down by serious trouble than the antecedent Adventures of Tom Sawyer, readers are once again
greeted with youthful, audacious prose. At the very outset, Huckleberry voices his desire for a journey,
All I wanted was to go somewheres, all I wanted was a change. I warn t particular (Twain 2 3). What

Hungarian Peasant and Folk Music Essay
Hungarian Peasant and Folk Music
I. General confusion about Hungarian folk music.
Gypsy music Peasant music the real Hungarian folk music is not Gypsy music. Peasant music
certainly had influence on the songs and playing of gypsies who lived in Hungary and performed in
ensembles, though. Gypsy music used to be the basis of all generalizations about Hungarian music. It
was Ferenc Liszt s monumental error to state that Gypsy music is the creation of gypsies. The so
called gypsy scale points to a southern oriental (Arabic) origin and may possibly have reached
Hungary through the gypsies. This music falsifies Hungarian folk songs by introducing augmented
intervals of the Gypsy scales, which scales were never used by peasants. ... Show more content on

The first widely known Hungarian dances are composed by known composers and harmonized after
the Viennese style. It is a mystery why they were labeled as Hungarian folk melodies. Popular art
music is set on texts or poems, which is the commonplace language of the town reflecting the
individual tastes and whims of their composers with a less beautiful and corrupt use of the language in
comparison with the high, natural, illiterate musical and poetic artistry of peasant music having no
individual authors or composers yet with a beautiful use of the language full with natural images and
marvelous metaphors. Just an example: here is a quotation of one strophe from the old style of peasant
music: Sír elöttem az út, Bánkódik az ösveny, Még az is azt mondja: Áldjon meg az östen ( In front of
me the trail is crying, The path is lamenting, Even it says: God bless you ) It does not work in English.
The translation does not show the nicety of the language, its clear genuine sound, the sound of the
words, which language is free from any stylized effects. I would even risk saying: the sound of the
meaning. Popular art music is incompetent to carry poetry as this. And its music the same way: with
its stylized lighter popular taste it cannot emulate that of peasant music, the music evolved and carried
through the natural process of a long illiterate oral

You re in an unstable bunker that goes to only the top of your shoulders. You re in Iraq, a land you
have studied yet still feel as unfamiliar with as a never ending desert. Your drill sergeant is screaming
at you to fire at your enemies. You freeze. This was not what you remember signing up for. You came
to this foreign land because you wanted to defend yourself and because you love America. When
aiming at stationary targets not firing back, you felt in control. You didn t really think about what you
are doing then. Now, though, when looking through your scope at the enemies , you cannot
differentiate them from you. Army sergeants have attempted to teach you to bypass the moral process
of killing, but you are unable to easily do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As former American sergeant Camilo Mejia said, There s no higher assertion of freedom than to
follow your conscience. In 2003, Mejia went on a leave of absence from Iraq and never returned
because of his loathing of the abuse prisoners of war. He came out of hiding to face the army and was
sentenced to one year in military prison. He proclaimed that he felt freer there than ever before. The
disrespect from others that Mejia encountered was worth the great pride he had for himself. When
making an imperative decision, you cannot please everyone. Sometimes you need to separate yourself
from others. What your parents or friends preach is not necessarily what you should live by. Staying
true to yourself is what is most important. At certain times, you have to delve deep to understand what
really matters. Being someone who abandons their own ideals and only lives out the dreams and
beliefs of others is not the right way to go through life. There s a chance you have a certain theory that
no one else expresses, but is actually apprehended by many. Conveying particular feelings can allow
others to feel comfortable in doing the same. It s easy to be misunderstood for following your
conscience, especially when your actions might seem contradictory. Conscientious objectors, for
example, are looked down by some people but are simply following their true beliefs. These are not
necessarily lifelong values because some people develop these after many years. One of

Marital Rape And Injustice In The United States
Today marital rape is considered a crime, whereas in history, it was acceptable for the husband to have
nonconsensual sex with his wife. Wives were once known to be their husbands possession, giving the
husband ownership of her body which in turn gives him the right to have sex with them without her
permission. The law back in history once said, a man cannot rape his wife, because when they get
married, the marriage gives the husband consent to sexual intercourse. It was said rape only happens
by an acquaintance or a stranger outside the marriage. John Rightout was the first husband to be
convicted of raping his wife. Righout versus the State of Oregon put the marital rape law into action.
In 1993, all states considered marital rape to be a crime, but 33 states placed certain exemptions such
as: if the wife was sleeping if she was unconscious or physically weak and if she was legally unable to
consent to having sex with her husband when concerning prosecutions of raping a wife. A woman is
the only person who can be considered a rape victim, and rape laws were specifically applied only to
them. This type of rape brings fear. It is committed by using physical force or threats if the wife
refuses to consent to sex. Marital rape, the term that describes what a ... Show more content on

Pros And Cons Of The Sinclair Family
The Sinclair family lost three people that they loved very dearly. The four liars did an inexplicable and
illegal thing. They committed arson and were killed in the act. All but one: Cadence survived. Johnny,
Mirren, and Gat died in a fire accident late into summer fifteen. Cadence does not recall the accident
but everybody in the Sinclair family is grieving for their deaths and Cadence s suffering. Not only
should people make memories but they should make memories with people they care about. This is
what the Sinclair family wishes that they would have done. The Sinlcairs do not always get along.

People are important to their friends and family in different ways. Friends and family spend time
together because they want to see each other and make everyone feel important. As soon as one loses

can t be mad at me for not answering. It feels like homework, typing and staring at the stupid phone or
computer. (Lockhart 81) This is significant because Mirren is no longer able to respond. Cadence

Analysis Of The Cinema Of Attraction By Tom Gunning
Early films were created with audience reception in mind. Tom Gunning, author of Cinema of
Attraction, theorizes filmmakers goal to create a film that gripped the audiences attention and amazed
them create a spectacle. Therefore, early cinema did not have a narrative structure. They were most
often short films, such as those of the Lumiere Brothers, that were actualities; 40 to 50 second films
that showed actualities or activities representative of everyday life, such as playing cards, drinking
beer, or a moving train. Gunning asserts the period of early cinema began in 1895 and lasted until
1906/1907, when narrativization of cinema became a trend. Although the mode of storytelling
changed in later decades, some films retained the spectacular qualities central to early cinema. In this
essay, I will discuss Gunning s argument that early cinema was a spectacle or a tamed attraction.
Furthermore, I will argue Wings is reminiscent of early cinema for its creation of tamed attraction
through cinematography in scenes shot for visual appeal, special effects, and most notably, the dog
fight sequences. Gunning described early cinema ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

God s goodness and mercy far transcends the comprehension of the most brilliant human mind! He

The Kingdom may exist in the individual human heart, in groups, in institutions, and in nature. The
Kingdom of God is as broad and as overarching as the presence of God which renews and transforms
and recreates everything touched by it. The religious philosophy of Judaism during the Second Period
time includes: Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, and Zealots. Judaism is based on worshipping the one
true God, circumcision as a sign of being one of God s chosen people, worships on the Sabbath,
obeying God s laws and following the traditions given from one generation to another.
Lasor (1996, p.398 399) during the second temple period Jewish lived not only in Judah but in the
Disapora, or dispersion: Babylon, Egypt, and quite likely other place. The Pharisee was strongly
committed to the daily application and observance of the law. This means they only accepted the
tradition of the law which made it applicable and possible. They also believed in oral as well as
written law; immortality of the soul. The Sadducees believed that only the laws in the first five books
of the Old Testament had to obey. They did not believe in the Resurrection; rejection of oral tradition;
immorality of the soul; existences of a spirit world (Act23:8; Mark 12:18; Luke 20: 27). The Essenes
are Jews by birth, and seems to have a better relationship with each other than the other sects have.

Pontius Pilate Influence On Jesus Plate
Pontius Pilate was a Roman governor who overlooked Judea. To me, he was made out to seem like a
weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He could
arguably be considered the single man who changed history as we know it. The gospels do not explain
much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was during the trial of
Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed through with the
crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book Pontius Pilate by Paul
L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after the life changing verdict.

I never understood how serious the division was but Pontius Pilate helped inform me of the
magnitude. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately affected
his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the Jews to admit
they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it reaffirmed his
authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the Jews felt guilty about
the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus blood. After, the Jews replied
by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate operated the whole production so the
blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was very shocked to see such evil works from a
man. I didn t know how intense the rivalry between the Jews and Gentiles were, but it was clearly big
enough for Pilate to influence a trial, Jesus trial, for his own selfish,

Expert systems as a mean of conducting medical diagnosis and recommending successful treatments
have been a highly active research field in the past few years. Expert systems can assist medical
professionals and other users in providing correct diagnosis and suggesting effective treatments of
diseases. In other words, intelligent systems for diagnosing common illnesses can provide easy access
to a wealth of information that may help hospitals reduce excessive costs from unnecessary laboratory

This section provides succinct and coherent information about the important techniques and concepts
that are related to this project such as what is an expert system and what is the ID3 algorithm which is
used as the data mining technique. The following subsections are an overview for each of these
concepts:
2.1 Expert Systems:
Expert systems are computer programs capable of performing a task that normally requires the
knowledge from experts in the field [9]. Two different approaches represent knowledge in expert
systems. One is based on production rules (IF THEN), which are applied to the knowledge base in an
orderly manner to produce the solution to a diagnostic problem [3]. The second approach is based on
nodal networks of disease features linked together in a variety of patterns against which the new
patient s features are compared by pattern matching. Some recent systems combine features of both
approaches. A second generation of expert systems now make use of networks where causal
pathophysiological information is embodied. This latter type provides particularly complex
explanatory feedback [9].
There are many different techniques that can be used by expert systems and clinical decision support
systems in order to improve the systems work such as: Causal Probabilistic Network, Neural Network,
Bayesian Network,

Consumer Spending
ECO 2301
Principles of Macroeconomics
Anthony Le
November 30th, 2011
Consumer Spending Consumer spending is defined as the goods and services bought by the
households in the satisfaction of their wants and needs. (BusinessDictionary.com). It is also known as
personal consumption expenditure and is the largest part of aggregate demand or effective demand at
the macroeconomic level. Why is consumer spending important in the U.S. economy? In fact,
consumer spending is the single biggest determinant of the U.S. economy s health, accounting for
about two thirds of the United States annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP). A decline in consumer
spending could spoil the U.S. economy or certain market sectors. By ... Show more content on

This leaves less money to pay for discretionary purchases that help fuel economic growth. It is
estimated that every $1 increase in the price of gasoline translates into an additional cost of $1,000 a
year for most drivers. As a result, low income households began to feel pressures from higher energy
bills, which already affected negatively discounted retailers. Long term, the pain at the pump could
become more widespread. A survey released in April by the Financial Services Forum, an association
of the CEOs of 20 large U.S. financial institutions, reported its members view escalating energy prices
as the biggest threat to U.S. economic growth, ahead of rising health care costs and terrorism. The rise
in gasoline also caused the fall in auto sales. Cars and light trucks were sold at an average 11.41
annual rate in June, the slowest in a year. (Chandra)
Besides household incomes, high fuel cost and energy prices, interest rate is another key factor that
determines consumer spending in the economy. Interest rate hikes have already reduced demand for
mortgage refinancing and home equity loans, two significant sources of cash that increased consumer
spending in recent years. As interest rate rose, consumers most likely found it less desirable and less
reasonable to borrow against the equity in their homes. As a result, they tend to put off buying luxury
goods for their home, such as TVs, entertainment systems, or other goods. With the above aspects, we

Essay on Arne Duncan s Continuing Failure of Renaissance 2010
Arne Duncan is the current Secretary of Education in Washington and was the biggest architect of the
Renaissance 2010 movement within the Chicago Public Schools. He has been an effective leader for
the charter school movement, or turn around schools as they begin to shape the education systems of
underprivileged cities in the rest of the United States of America. There are many people who are in
favor of the charter schools coming up through the education system, but there are others who are
seeing the negative impact on their families and children. This renaissance is good for creating a better
education for students, but the scale is heavily tipped to one side that is harming people who are/have

When schools are converted to charters or turned around they are following the educational reform of
Arne Duncan to give better education to underserved areas in Chicago. The myth of this is that these
schools are highly beneficial to the underprivileged areas when in fact they are doing a great amount
of harm. In Arne Duncan and the Chicago Success Story: Myth or Reality? the myth is recognized by
stating the impact on children and teachers; a statement from the article says, Renaissance 2010 was
(and is) marketed as an opportunity to bring in new partners with creative approaches to education.
That s the myth (Brown, Gutstein, Lipman, 2009). As stated, the myth here is schools should be
operated as markets and the charter school system does this by getting rid of the difficult working
ways and replacing them with creative partners. Brown, Gutstein and Lipman further explain why the
charter school is harming the community saying how students are facing attendance and violence
problems, ...there is no guarantee that a student who had their school closed will attend a charter
school and those who had their school closed down have faced destabilization of spikes in violence...
(Brown, Gutstein, Lipman, 2009). This demonstrates the fault of charter schools because it shows how
community warnings were ignored on what school closings will do to the neighborhood. A further

The Nature Of Mt Wellington
I am honored to have opportunity to address my opinion about the nature of Mt Wellington after
delving the affairs from your letter. Before making any judgements, some problems are being worth
paying closs attention to here, such as profitability of Mt Wellington, transfer of ownership. Enclosed
with this letter is a detailed explaination in which you may find the constructive comments.
Relating to core issue, there are two scenarios need to be classified, which will result different
conclusions:
In the first place, the present situation is some areas in Mt Wellington are privately owned by the
Hobart and Glenorchy city councils, although the State Government has already introduced new laws
during in the earlier period this year that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, we could use the same standard to measure the other part in Mt Wellington. The rest area
that no one has way to claim could not be addressed as asset. The reason is there is no entity to
manage that area. According to the Australian Accounting Standard Board AASB138, it falsifies one
of the essential characteristic of being asset, asset must be control by the entity . Hence, this area could
not be accounted as asset. When we make an intensive study of this unowned area, it should be put
into a category of natural resource since it is out of management. According to Comstock (2016), a
natural resource is something that is not made by humans but is necessary or useful in their lives . To
some extent, the landscape, water resource and wild forest in this area have enriched the biodiversity
and are helpful to the local environment construction. As local communities said, any activity within
Wellington Park has the potential to have an impact upon natural and cultural values, and the Council
s assets, within the reserve . In fact, no one has the right to possess himself/herself of the unclaimed
area.
At the moment, the whole Mt Wellington could not treated as an asset, even the current status is in
good condition. However, there is another possibility that State Government or Commonweal would
make Mt Wellington nationalized regardless of the approval and support from the Hobart and
Glenorchy city councils. There is evidence that this

Netflix vs. Blockbuster
Introduction Blockbuster opened in 1985 and in its first 20 years of business, the movie rental giant
opened 9.100 stores in 25 countries (Laudon, 2007, p. 121). Netflix launched in 1998 using a new
business model and became Blockbusters biggest threat. The paradigm shift in the rental industry from
having to travel to a store and rent a movie to being able to have a movie delivered to your mailbox
changed the way people think about media entertainment. The next shift will be having the technology
to download movies and shows directly to a television.

traditional retail store with a physical location focused on creating ... Show more content on

Alternatives One of the biggest information technology hurdles that Blockbuster has to overcome is
the two separate systems dividing the online service and the physical stores. While not as convenient
as being able to order a movie from the comfort of your home and having it upload on the TV, if
Blockbuster integrates the two systems it will be an advantage to the overall strategy. Microsoft and
Netflix have unveiled a partnership under which Netflix will stream movies directly to consumers
through Microsoft s Internet based Xbox Live service (McDougall, 2008). This strategy goes along
with Netflix s original agenda: to increase customer convenience. Anyone who is a Netflix subscriber
and has an Xbox will be able to stream movies in the company library. This service should launch in
the autumn of 2008.
Closing While Blockbuster is trying to remain true to its origins and keep its core competence of a
physical video rental store, the future seems to be in the roles of companies able to cater to consumer s
busy life styles and need for convenience. Netflix, along with Apple and video on demand, is working
to make ordering movies and TV shows as simple and fast as possible. Blockbuster needs to create a
strategy that keeps at the front of the movie rental technology if it doesn t want to lose customers to
the convenience of not having to leave their homes.

management role in companies. The aim of this was to develop a way where potential of the firm had
to meet the firm s objectives. He tried to introduce planning into the companies so there would not be

  • 3. Final Three Crusades Essay Catholicism is a religion based upon the commandments instilled by Jesus Christ Son of God. The final three crusades were uncontrolled by the pope and led to rape, theft, pillaging, a dark past that has shaped the future of Catholicism today. The Roman Catholic crusades where Catholic wars started to try and regain control over Jerusalem (the holy land), and to expand the religion, the final three crusades however derived from the initial purpose and led to destruction. The purpose of the research I have done over Roman Catholic Crusades is to get a deeper understanding as to why the Catholic leaders used Crusades to expand their religious beliefs and the outcomes both good and bad of the crusades. The first three crusades were initiated to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The crusades where intended to spread Christianity Universally. However many of the actions during the crusades did not promote peace as they where intended (William J.). Many Europeans feeling the need to join the cause in crusades, joined the cause with nothing but wooden crosses, many people abandoned their homes to join on the journey. Crusades left many people dead in the Middle East. Jerusalem being the major goal of conquest of the crusaders in the end many of the crusades failed or simply turned back (Brown, Bryan). Europeans used Crusades to expand Christianity. The Crusades where considered unsuccessful. Many of them brought tragedy to local Christians, which was part of the reason of the failure in the crusades. The crusades however did leave some practices instilled in the later religions that where to be made. Through these crusades a lot of the new religions adapted practices that are now influential in there religious practices (William E.). Emilie Gogalak gives us an interesting out look of how crusades brought together many faiths. She also gives us a belief that maybe the crusades where not sparked for religious beliefs but simply for power and money (Emilie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Impact of Charlemagne Upon Europe Essay Charlemagne, or Charles the Great, reigned during a time of much turmoil and upheaval in Europe during middle ages. Charlemagne s background and family history contributed much to his rise to power. The triumphs of his past lineage prepared him to take on the task of governing the Frankish Empire, and defending it from invaders. Charlemagne accomplished much during his supremacy. He not only brought education back into medieval Europe, but also invented an efficient way to govern his people. His conquests against the many adversaries of the Holy Roman Empire expanded his empire across the majority of Europe. His conquests also formed strong ties between the Catholic Church and the State. Charles Martel, or Charles the Hammer, considered one of the greatest to hold the title Mayor of the Palace , succeeded the position in 732 (Abrams 186). He gained high admiration and respect from the Frankish people for his feats against the Muslims trying to gain passage into Europe (Abrams 186), and imparted much wisdom to an equally respected ruler, his grandson, Charlemagne. By this time, the Franks thought of the mayors more as kings instead of stewards considering that they had complete control over the empire and its people. Charlemagne s Father, Pepin III, more commonly known as Pepin the Short, assumed the position of Mayor in 751 (Davis 54). During his reign, Pepin defended Rome against a barbarian tribe called the Lombards, which strengthened the relationship between the church and the state that later would contribute to Charlemagne s sovereignty as Holy Roman Emperor (Davis 54). Pepin died in 768, dividing the now much larger Frankish empire between his two sons Charlemagne and Carolmen (Davis 54). Carolmen died in 771 and left Charlemagne as the sole ruler of the Frankish empire (Davis 54). The era when the mayors ruled the Franks up until Charlemagne s death acquired the title The Carolingian Dynasty in Western Europe (Jenkins 123). From the passing of both his Father and brother, Charlemagne continued into his kingship over the Frankish Empire. Charlemagne s initiatives and conquests as king brought ... Rich turns all the familiar arguments on their heads: If the first erotic bond is to the mother, she asks, could not the natural sexual orientation of both men and women be toward women? Rich s radical questioning has been a major intellectual force in the general feminist reorientation to sexual matters in recent years, and her conception of a lesbian continuum sparked especially intense debate. Active Learning Strategies Analysis Active learning strategies consist of a large and different variety of activities that share the common factors of involving students in thinking about the knowledge and information they are doing (Bonwell Eison 1991). These strategies are used to engage students in critical thinking, communication with peers, expressing ideas, exploring their own attitudes and values, giving and receiving feedback, and reflecting on the learning process. These strategies are done with the students inside or outside the class, completed by working as individuals or in groups, and can be done with or without the use of technology. In my grade3 class, I use the Pair Share and the Close Reading strategies, I read about these strategies before, and now I am applying them in my class. The Pair Share Strategy is one of the ways that let students talk about an issue or topic in class is to use the think/write pair share method. (Lyman, 1992). In this strategy, I present a problem in the class and then give students 30 seconds to one minute to think about or write out their response. Then, the students pair up and explain their responses to one another for 3 to 5 minutes. Finally, the results are discussed, this technique takes only about 4 to 6 minutes of class time, and it could be done once in each class session. This strategy has worked successfully in my English class, where I introduced a topic about Community Service I asked my students to think about the role of community service work then I asked them individually about their decision and choices about doing a community service work. The class was asked to do community service work and students who changed their ideas and thoughts about it are asked why they did so. The Close Reading Strategy improves reading comprehension and provides engagement in the subject (Bass Linkon, 2009). In class, I model how to read and interpret a passage while the students follow in their books. After that, some students may be called individually to read aloud and interpret similar selections. After reading passages of a story, students will be divided into groups of three or two and be asked to talk about and decide what the selection means, and then paraphrasing it in their own words. I will ask the groups to give their interpretations and analysis before providing my analysis. This technique worked well with grade 3 students, where they had to do this strategy every time we start a new reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Difference Between Dominate And Recessive Genes What is the difference between dominate and recessive genes? Genes help determine the characteristics and traits consisting of: eye, skin, hair color, etc. Each gene contains two alleles one coming from the mother and the other from the father, one being dominant and the other recessive. The dominant allele is typically expressed, while the recessive are not generally expressed. A dominant allele makes a pair with a recessive allele. The dominant allele determines the traits visibly expressed as phenotypes the genetic code working behind a trait in known as the genotype (Your Genome, 2016). What is the difference between heterozygous and homozygous expression of genes? The genetic material that determines the trait is known as the genotype, which at times it is said to be homozygous (a person containing two recessive/two dominant alleles coming from both parents) or heterozygous (a person having one recessive/one dominant allele from both parents). It is typically common for a child to have brown eyes when one parent has a recessive allele and the other a dominant allele allowing it to override the other. However, if both parents have brown eyes, but contribute the recessive allele the child will have blue eyes. This is not always the case as genetic inheritance is not always simple as we see some people having eyes that are green, one brown, and one blue (CCCOE, 2016). • 12. The First Signs Of Music Therapy Essay The use of music for therapy has been seen to exist for almost as long as the start of therapy itself. At around 400 B.C., Hippocrates, a Greek physician known for his tremendous contributions to modern medicine, was shown to be the first human to use music as a way to therapeutically treat mental patients. Since then, records of other civilizations such as the Egyptians, Arabians, and even the Native Americans show signs of the use of music in medicine. This form of therapy was said to help align the soul and the body together. However, it was not until the 18th century that researchers have studied how music affects the nerves themselves (Gouk, 2004). The first signs of music therapy used in the modern world were predominantly in the United Kingdom after World War I (Degmecic, 2005). Musicians played to war veterans suffering from both mental and physical trauma to help alleviate their pain. As these veterans were seen having positive responses to the music played, doctors hired more musicians to help play at veteran hospitals. Seeing the positive feedback and recovery of the veterans prompted the use of music therapy to become an actual academic curriculum taught in college courses. Currently, the leading organization that focuses primarily on music therapy is the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) which was formed in 1998. Their team of music therapists has helped countless of patients improve both their physical and emotional help with the use of music. Music ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is one hundred and thirty years old, yet unfailingly manages to fascinate, infuriate, and inspire its readership. The novel rests on many a bookshelf and regularly appears on lists of literary legends though it is equally likely to top a list of controversial and profane works. Certainly, there is no other book in the oeuvre of Mark Twain that commands attention more deservedly than Huckleberry Finn. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is the decided champion of American novels due to its adherence to the , authentic characters and tone, timeless social commentary, and immeasurable impact on contemporary literature. The red, white, and blue, the stars and stripes; none of it stacks up in the presence of a boy, a river, and a raft. True to its title, the novel is an adventure story. It describes an escapade from point A to point B, encountering choreographed misfortunes and recoveries along the way. In the grand scheme of things, this work is a commentary on more than just a float along the Mississippi with a friend, but first, to address the superficial. Though The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is considerably more loaded down by serious trouble than the antecedent Adventures of Tom Sawyer, readers are once again greeted with youthful, audacious prose. Gypsy music Peasant music the real Hungarian folk music is not Gypsy music. Peasant music certainly had influence on the songs and playing of gypsies who lived in Hungary and performed in ensembles, though. Gypsy music used to be the basis of all generalizations about Hungarian music. It was Ferenc Liszt s monumental error to state that Gypsy music is the creation of gypsies. The so called gypsy scale points to a southern oriental (Arabic) origin and may possibly have reached Hungary through the gypsies. Popular art music is set on texts or poems, which is the commonplace language of the town reflecting the individual tastes and whims of their composers with a less beautiful and corrupt use of the language in comparison with the high, natural, illiterate musical and poetic artistry of peasant music having no individual authors or composers yet with a beautiful use of the language full with natural images and marvelous metaphors. Just an example: here is a quotation of one strophe from the old style of peasant music: Sír elöttem az út, Bánkódik az ösveny, Még az is azt mondja: Áldjon meg az östen ( In front of me the trail is crying, The path is lamenting, Even it says: God bless you ) It does not work in English. The translation does not show the nicety of the language, its clear genuine sound, the sound of the words, which language is free from any stylized effects. I would even risk saying: the sound of the meaning. Popular art music is incompetent to carry poetry as this. Wives were once known to be their husbands possession, giving the husband ownership of her body which in turn gives him the right to have sex with them without her permission. The law back in history once said, a man cannot rape his wife, because when they get married, the marriage gives the husband consent to sexual intercourse. It was said rape only happens by an acquaintance or a stranger outside the marriage. John Rightout was the first husband to be convicted of raping his wife. Righout versus the State of Oregon put the marital rape law into action. In 1993, all states considered marital rape to be a crime, but 33 states placed certain exemptions such as: if the wife was sleeping if she was unconscious or physically weak and if she was legally unable to consent to having sex with her husband when concerning prosecutions of raping a wife. • 22. Analysis Of The Cinema Of Attraction By Tom Gunning Early films were created with audience reception in mind. Tom Gunning, author of Cinema of Attraction, theorizes filmmakers goal to create a film that gripped the audiences attention and amazed them create a spectacle. Therefore, early cinema did not have a narrative structure. They were most often short films, such as those of the Lumiere Brothers, that were actualities; 40 to 50 second films that showed actualities or activities representative of everyday life, such as playing cards, drinking beer, or a moving train. Gunning asserts the period of early cinema began in 1895 and lasted until 1906/1907, when narrativization of cinema became a trend. Although the mode of storytelling changed in later decades, some films retained the spectacular qualities central to early cinema. In this essay, I will discuss Gunning s argument that early cinema was a spectacle or a tamed attraction. The Kingdom of God is as broad and as overarching as the presence of God which renews and transforms and recreates everything touched by it. The religious philosophy of Judaism during the Second Period time includes: Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, and Zealots. Judaism is based on worshipping the one true God, circumcision as a sign of being one of God s chosen people, worships on the Sabbath, obeying God s laws and following the traditions given from one generation to another. Lasor (1996, p.398 399) during the second temple period Jewish lived not only in Judah but in the Disapora, or dispersion: Babylon, Egypt, and quite likely other place. The Pharisee was strongly committed to the daily application and observance of the law. This means they only accepted the tradition of the law which made it applicable and possible. They also believed in oral as well as written law; immortality of the soul. The Sadducees believed that only the laws in the first five books of the Old Testament had to obey. They did not believe in the Resurrection; rejection of oral tradition; immorality of the soul; existences of a spirit world (Act23:8; Mark 12:18; Luke 20: 27). The Essenes are Jews by birth, and seems to have a better relationship with each other than the other sects have. They were highly apocalyptic with a stress on angels and the opposed temple ... • 26. Pontius Pilate Influence On Jesus Plate Pontius Pilate was a Roman governor who overlooked Judea. To me, he was made out to seem like a weak leader in the gospels, however in all actuality, he was a harsh and strong governor. He could arguably be considered the single man who changed history as we know it. The gospels do not explain much about Pilate and his background. The only time he was really introduced was during the trial of Jesus. He was acknowledged a few times to show he was the one who followed through with the crucifixion, and then he ceased to be brought back up again. However, the book Pontius Pilate by Paul L. Maier thoroughly and adequately illustrates Pilate s life before and after the life changing verdict. This was a fascinating read that really captivated my interest. It was long and at times hard to follow, but I was extremely intrigued with the eccentric details that Maier provided. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I never understood how serious the division was but Pontius Pilate helped inform me of the magnitude. There was serious tension since Pilate was governor over Jews and that ultimately affected his decisions. He went so far as to use Jesus being on trial as a way to manipulate the Jews to admit they had no king but Caeser. This was a confidence booster for Pilate because it reaffirmed his authority of Rome. Not surprisingly, he didn t stop there. Pilate made sure the Jews felt guilty about the crucifixion. It was said that Pilate washed his hands clean of Jesus blood. After, the Jews replied by saying, His blood be on us and on our children (238). Pilate operated the whole production so the blame would be focused on the Jews and not him. I was very shocked to see such evil works from a man. I didn t know how intense the rivalry between the Jews and Gentiles were, but it was clearly big enough for Pilate to influence a trial, Jesus trial, for his own selfish, ... Expert systems can assist medical professionals and other users in providing correct diagnosis and suggesting effective treatments of diseases. In other words, intelligent systems for diagnosing common illnesses can provide easy access to a wealth of information that may help hospitals reduce excessive costs from unnecessary laboratory test and provide more effective patient treatment, while maintaining high quality of medical care. BACKGROUND: This section provides succinct and coherent information about the important techniques and concepts that are related to this project such as what is an expert system and what is the ID3 algorithm which is used as the data mining technique. The following subsections are an overview for each of these concepts: 2.1 Expert Systems: Expert systems are computer programs capable of performing a task that normally requires the knowledge from experts in the field [9]. Two different approaches represent knowledge in expert systems. One is based on production rules (IF THEN), which are applied to the knowledge base in an orderly manner to produce the solution to a diagnostic problem [3]. The second approach is based on nodal networks of disease features linked together in a variety of patterns against which the new patient s features are compared by pattern matching. Some recent systems combine features of both approaches. A second generation of expert systems now make use of networks where causal pathophysiological information is embodied. This latter type provides particularly complex explanatory feedback [9]. There are many different techniques that can be used by expert systems and clinical decision support systems in order to improve the systems work such as: Causal Probabilistic Network, Neural Network, Bayesian Network, ... Consumer Spending Essay example Consumer Spending ECO 2301 Principles of Macroeconomics Anthony Le November 30th, 2011 Consumer Spending Consumer spending is defined as the goods and services bought by the households in the satisfaction of their wants and needs. (BusinessDictionary.com). It is also known as personal consumption expenditure and is the largest part of aggregate demand or effective demand at the macroeconomic level. Why is consumer spending important in the U.S. economy? This leaves less money to pay for discretionary purchases that help fuel economic growth. It is estimated that every $1 increase in the price of gasoline translates into an additional cost of $1,000 a year for most drivers. As a result, low income households began to feel pressures from higher energy bills, which already affected negatively discounted retailers. Long term, the pain at the pump could become more widespread. A survey released in April by the Financial Services Forum, an association of the CEOs of 20 large U.S. financial institutions, reported its members view escalating energy prices as the biggest threat to U.S. economic growth, ahead of rising health care costs and terrorism. The rise in gasoline also caused the fall in auto sales. Cars and light trucks were sold at an average 11.41 annual rate in June, the slowest in a year. (Chandra) Besides household incomes, high fuel cost and energy prices, interest rate is another key factor that determines consumer spending in the economy. Interest rate hikes have already reduced demand for mortgage refinancing and home equity loans, two significant sources of cash that increased consumer spending in recent years. As interest rate rose, consumers most likely found it less desirable and less reasonable to borrow against the equity in their homes. As a result, they tend to put off buying luxury goods for their home, such as TVs, entertainment systems, or other goods. With the above aspects, we as consumers are ... He has been an effective leader for the charter school movement, or turn around schools as they begin to shape the education systems of underprivileged cities in the rest of the United States of America. There are many people who are in favor of the charter schools coming up through the education system, but there are others who are seeing the negative impact on their families and children. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When schools are converted to charters or turned around they are following the educational reform of Arne Duncan to give better education to underserved areas in Chicago. The myth of this is that these schools are highly beneficial to the underprivileged areas when in fact they are doing a great amount of harm. In Arne Duncan and the Chicago Success Story: Myth or Reality? the myth is recognized by stating the impact on children and teachers; a statement from the article says, Renaissance 2010 was (and is) marketed as an opportunity to bring in new partners with creative approaches to education. That s the myth (Brown, Gutstein, Lipman, 2009). As stated, the myth here is schools should be operated as markets and the charter school system does this by getting rid of the difficult working ways and replacing them with creative partners. Brown, Gutstein and Lipman further explain why the charter school is harming the community saying how students are facing attendance and violence problems, ...there is no guarantee that a student who had their school closed will attend a charter school and those who had their school closed down have faced destabilization of spikes in violence... (Brown, Gutstein, Lipman, 2009). This demonstrates the fault of charter schools because it shows how community warnings were ignored on what school closings will do to the neighborhood. The rest area that no one has way to claim could not be addressed as asset. The reason is there is no entity to manage that area. According to the Australian Accounting Standard Board AASB138, it falsifies one of the essential characteristic of being asset, asset must be control by the entity . Hence, this area could not be accounted as asset. When we make an intensive study of this unowned area, it should be put into a category of natural resource since it is out of management. According to Comstock (2016), a natural resource is something that is not made by humans but is necessary or useful in their lives . To some extent, the landscape, water resource and wild forest in this area have enriched the biodiversity and are helpful to the local environment construction. As local communities said, any activity within Wellington Park has the potential to have an impact upon natural and cultural values, and the Council s assets, within the reserve . In fact, no one has the right to possess himself/herself of the unclaimed area. At the moment, the whole Mt Wellington could not treated as an asset, even the current status is in good condition. However, there is another possibility that State Government or Commonweal would make Mt Wellington nationalized regardless of the approval and support from the Hobart and Glenorchy city councils. Netflix launched in 1998 using a new business model and became Blockbusters biggest threat. The paradigm shift in the rental industry from having to travel to a store and rent a movie to being able to have a movie delivered to your mailbox changed the way people think about media entertainment. Alternatives One of the biggest information technology hurdles that Blockbuster has to overcome is the two separate systems dividing the online service and the physical stores. While not as convenient as being able to order a movie from the comfort of your home and having it upload on the TV, if Blockbuster integrates the two systems it will be an advantage to the overall strategy. Microsoft and Netflix have unveiled a partnership under which Netflix will stream movies directly to consumers through Microsoft s Internet based Xbox Live service (McDougall, 2008). This strategy goes along with Netflix s original agenda: to increase customer convenience. Anyone who is a Netflix subscriber and has an Xbox will be able to stream movies in the company library. This service should launch in the autumn of 2008. Closing While Blockbuster is trying to remain true to its origins and keep its core competence of a physical video rental store, the future seems to be in the roles of companies able to cater to consumer s busy life styles and need for convenience. Netflix, along with Apple and video on demand, is working to make ordering movies and TV shows as simple and fast as possible. Blockbuster needs to create a strategy that keeps at the front of the movie rental technology if it doesn t want to lose customers to the convenience of not having to leave their homes.
