A Visit At The Bakersfield College Essay
A visit that I would like to discuss was with my 21 years old Native American female and her newborn
son in her home. The purpose of this home visit was to check how the infant was doing because he
was in the NICU after birth to rule out sepsis and also to check how the mother was doing after the
birth of her first child. She lives in her parent s house with her siblings and boyfriend, and total seven
people live in that house. The new mother is currently is not working, but she is taking classes at the
Bakersfield College. Her family is supportive, and the baby s father is involved in the care of the
Infant. Approximately 1/3 of Native Americans live in poverty and experience the conditions related
to poor living conditions such as tuberculosis, malnourishment, and higher maternal and infant death
rates (Allender, Rector, Warner, 2014). Some of the common highest ranking health problems seen in
Native American children are SIDS, congenital anomalies, obesity, type II diabetes, and morbidity and
mortality related to injuries (Allender et al., 2014). Poor hygiene, packed housing conditions, and low
immunization leads to the incidence of a variety of contagious diseases in Native Americans (Allender
et al., 2014). Native Americans prefer customary healing and folk medicines compared to the Western
medicine; they use plants and herbs to cure illnesses (Allender et al., 2014). During this visit, I
completed physical assessment of the Infant, completed 102, and asked the

Essay On Hyperthermia
Many people have an understanding of what hyperthermia is and the reasons it may occur in an
individual. Hyperthermia occurs when the body s core temperature reaches between 37 38°C due an
inability to dissipate heat. In most cases, the occurrence of hyperthermia can be credited to a known
reason. Examples include being outside in extremely hot temperatures without any cooling mechanism
or vigorous exercise in extreme heat causing the body s temperature to rise. Hyperthermia is
determined by an increase in core temperature at a rate of 1 2°C every five minutes (2, 11). However,
in certain individuals, the use of general anesthesia can cause individuals to suffer from an inherited
disorder known as malignant hyperthermia. When malignant hyperthermia is triggered, individuals are
at risk of hypoxemia, metabolic acidosis, rhabdomyolysis and a quick rise in the person s body
temperature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The increase in metabolic activity occurs in response to inhalational anesthetics and depolarizing
muscle relaxers, such as succinylcholine, and causes individuals to suffer from muscle rigidity,
hyperthermia, and tissue damage (1, 2). This is an inherited disorder found in humans and swine. If
treatment is not initiated quickly, the individual may die from ventricular fibrillation or, if the situation
is extended, the patient may die from renal failure (1). For treatment, patients are given dantrolene, a
muscle relaxer that prevents the release of calcium. Once dantrolene was widely used as a treatment
for malignant hyperthermia, the mortality rate from the disorder dropped from more than 80% to less
than 7% (1, 5, 6). Overall, the rate at which malignant hyperthermia occurs is between 1:5,000 and
1:75,000 (2). While the physical results of malignant hyperthermia are known, the physiological and
genetic reasons for the disorder are starting to be

Sports Drinks In Sports
Do sports drinks help improve performance of non professional athletes? I believe that they do not and
that drinking water would be more beneficial. During exercise, water is lost in the form of sweat, as a
way of helping to maintain a stable body temperature. Sweat losses vary from person to person and
can be affected by an individual s genetics, body size and level of fitness. Also most people are likely
to sweat more as it gets hotter and more humid, as well as with an increased level of activity. Sports
drinks have a lot of salt and sugar in them and could make the athlete consume more calories than they
are burning. Sports drinks are also sold to many children who would not be doing as much work as
their idols do and would be consuming too much sugar for their daily recommended needs of 20
grams. How much activity do you have to do to need to drink a sports drink for it to be beneficial for
your performance? I m using information conducted by Oxford University and the British Medical

Implant False Memory Literature Review
Strategies and Techniques Used to Implant False Memories
Memories are vital components in an individual s life because they give people a sense of identity. As
individuals, we create memories throughout our everyday lives. Some memories may positively affect
people, while others may negatively affect people. Although it may seem logical to think that
memories are always reliable and accurate, a plethora of research has indicated that memories can be
changed and created. The notion that memories should be reliable is prevalent in the judicial system
when witnesses provide accounts of events because it is assumed that their memory statements are
generally accurate (Shaw Porter, 2015). Roedieger III and McDermott (1995) defined false memories
as remembering events that never happened, or remembering them quite differently from the way they
happened (pg 803). Many people are aware that memory can fade and temporarily be unavailable.
Sometimes false memories can be so compelling that they seem as accurate as true memories (Loftus,
2003). This literature review focuses on strategies and false memory paradigms utilized to create and
implant false memories.
Misinformation Effect
The misinformation effect became prevalent in psychology during the 1970s when Elizabeth Loftus
conducted research showing that individuals can form memories of events that never transpired by
having events suggested to them (Leding, 2009). The customary misinformation paradigm

The Components Of Focusing To The Baylor Student Life Center
When walking through the Baylor Student Life Center, swimming at a YMCA pool, lifting at your
local gym or even jogging along with your school s track there are always 6 common focus areas you
can examine. When going to the Baylor Student Life Center to speak to the assistant director for
campus recreation Jeff Walter, I kept the following 6 topics in mind for questioning. Components of
facilities are taken into account, staffing needs and qualifications, risk management plans, ADA
compliance, signage and lastly general facility maintenance plans. So what do these focus areas look
like at Baylor s SLC? First let us discuss components of the SLC s facility. When talking to Mr.
Walter, he explained that the SLC uses a membership desk, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Risk management should include access to facility, an emergency action plan, PAR Q, informed
consent, and staff certification. Baylor s SLC is a textbook example of good risk management
planning. The Student Life Center has one accessible entrance to the facility which is monitored and
controlled by swiping ID card or using biometrics to confirm membership. Practicing fire safety drills
at least once a semester and every time the fire alarm gets tripped, active shooter precautions, tornado
and severe weather protocol. These protocols have been taught to all workers and booklets are
provided for exits and safe locations during such events. These locations must of course be accessible
to every member in the building including handicapped or disabled guests. Elevators are available
along with accessible routes and areas that are wheelchair or crutch accessible. This is due to the fact
that all facilities should be ADA compliant. Signage, warning, and ADA signs should be hung where
people can obviously view them. Jeff Walter described that all these signs have been posted above
every water fountain in the building, high traffic locations and safe areas such as locker rooms,
stairwells, the 1st floor restrooms. ADA signs are put on stairwells, doors and elevators while OSHA
signs tend to be where employees must walk. Walter s commented on the fact that OSHA signs tend to
be mostly in the pool area due to labeling, documents, and chemical factors. The

The Effects Of Housing Prices On Household s Consumption
2 Literature Review
Housing is always regarded as a main fortune of family. Thus the changes of housing price will affect
household s consumption a lot (Duli et al.,2010). Theoretically, the rise of housing price can boost
the households spending by wealth effect and collateral effect , it also can constrain consumer
spending by liquidity restrain effect or substitute effect . The rise of housing price will raise family s
current fortune or improve the collateral scale which will enhance family s borrowing capacity
(Aoki,2002) and promote households consumption (Iacoviello,2004, Lindner,2014). But, on the
other hand, for those non owned housing families, they are forced to pay more rent or to save more
due to the rise of housing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, more households report they would cut back consumption as a direct response to house
price falls than to house price rise (Mastrogiacomo, M., et al,2006, Gathergood,2012). Relaxations
of credit constraints are more likely explains for the observed correlation between wealth and
consumption (Atalay, Whelan et al.,2014). some scholars suggest liberate finacial constraint to
enhance the average consumption to income ratio (Aron, Duca et al.,2012, Atalay, Whelan et al.,
2013). Gathergood, J. (2012) condemned the borrowing constraint which results the cut of household
consumption. there was no housing wealth effect before credit market liberalization in the US and the
UK (Muellbauer,2008). The interaction between housing prices and household borrowing was
substantially weaker before the financial deregulation in Finnish (Oikarinen,2009).
Some scholars show their doubts to the wealth effect . Phang, S.Y. (2004) finds no evidence that house
price increases have produced either wealth or collateral enhancement effects on aggregate
consumption because housing is regarded as a kind of uncertain and risky asset which eventually
constrain consumption whether the anticipation to housing price is rise or fall. Once we control for the
endogeneity bias resulting from the correlation between housing wealth

Nevada Hazards Research Paper
Nevada Hazards
Wendy Gurganus
Coastal Carolina Community College One of the geologic hazards in Nevada is the Mountain ranges.
The reason these are hazards is because most of the ranges in Nevada have a major fault line on either
side of them. Some of these faults have been active within the last 1.6 million years, and have had
large earthquakes. This causes the ranges to tilt and shift and raised the ranges to higher levels. As far
as seismic activity goes, Nevada is the third most active state in the nation. There is an earthquake in
Nevada of a 7 or greater approximately once every thirty years. There are strike slip faults in the
northwest region of the state. The border of California had what is called Walker Lane. This area ...

Especially in the area around the Great Basin, since that covers most of the state. This area is
surrounded by the mountain ranges and gets all the run off . This water helps with the water shortage
throughout the year but at the time it is too much for the area to handle as there is no drainage to the
ocean from this area. Groundwater is used throughout the state. Sometimes, the water is pumped out
faster than it can be replenished. When this happens, the land surface can be affected. There are many
cracks in the ground near Las Vegas, and in some places the land has sunken in over six feet within the
last sixty years. An increase in the population of the state is to blame for the increased demand on the
groundwater and therefore, the increased damage being done to the landscape as a whole. More
people, more water, more land being developed, means less of the natural preservers being available.
Also, with these floods the state sees landslides. The rocks of the area show the different ways the
terrain was built

Plot
PLOT OF INTO THE WILD (FILM) The film is presented in a nonlinear narrative, jumping back and
forth between McCandless s time spent in Alaskan wilderness and his two year travels leading up to
his journey to Alaska. The plot summary here is told in a more chronological order. In May 1992,
Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) arrives in a remote area just north of the Denali National Park
and Preserve in Alaska and sets up a campsite in an abandoned bus. At first, McCandless is content
with the isolation, the beauty of nature around him, and the thrill of living off the land. He hunts wild
animals with a .22 caliber rifle, reads books, and keeps a diary of his thoughts as he prepares for
himself a new life in the wild. Two years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McCandless then travels to the Colorado River and, though told by park rangers that he may not kayak
down the river without a license, ignores their warnings and paddles downriver until he eventually
arrives in Mexico. There, his kayak is lost in a dust storm and he crosses back into the United States
on foot. Unable to hitchhike, he starts traveling on freight trains to Los Angeles, California. Not long
after arriving, however, he starts feeling corrupted by modern civilization and decides to leave. Later,
McCandless is forced to switch his traveling method back to hitchhiking after he is beaten by the
railroad police. In December 1991, McCandless arrives at Slab City in the Imperial Valley region of
California, and encounters Jan and Rainey again. There, he meets Tracy Tatro (Kristen Stewart), a
teenage girl who shows interest in McCandless, but he rejects her because she is underage. After the
holidays, McCandless decides to continue heading for Alaska, much to everyone s sadness. While
camping near Salton City, California, McCandless encounters Ron Franz (Hal Holbrook), a retired
man who recounts the story of the loss of his family in a car accident while he was serving in the
United States Army. He now occupies his time in a workshop as an amateur leather worker. Franz
teaches McCandless the craft of leatherwork, resulting in the making of a belt that details McCandless
travels. After spending several months with Franz,

Creationism vs. Evolution Essay
Where we come from is a question as old as mankind itself. There are countless numbers of religions,
each with their own twist on the origins of earth and mankind, but one of the most highly visible
debates would be creationism vs. evolution. Depending on where your beliefs lie, the Earth has been
around somewhere in the neighborhood of 6,000 years to 4.5 billion years. One would tend to believe
that this vast difference in time would make it impossible to have 2 theories that are so widely
accepted. However this debate gives you just that. Each argument has its variations, however it comes
down to either God created the Earth and all things in it as they are now or that life today has evolved
from a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the same idea, the Old Earth train of thought is that the days mentioned in Genesis were
actually up to many millions of years each. This is one of many theories that justifies the actual age of
the Earth being around 4.5 billion years old. The third view states that the story of creation contained
in Genesis is not a literal or even a chronological account of happenings. It is instead a guide
promoting a six day workweek with the seventh day a day of worship to God. The last view is much
like the second, in that it considers the days to be God s workdays, which may or may not be equal to
an Earth calendar day. Each day represents a period of time that God performed a major task. Each
view has the same underlying concept that God created everything, and the way it is today, it the way
it was when it was created.
Webster s Dictionary defines evolution as a theory that the various types of animals and plants have
their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modification
in successive generations. Like creation, evolution is not immune from differing of opinions.
Evolution is split between two frames of though, naturalistic and theistic.
Naturalistic evolution is pretty much cut and dry. It simply states that life started as a single one celled
organism. The universe was created 14 billion years ago, and the Earth was

William Gass Stand The Test Of Time Analysis
The widely known idiom, Stand the test of time , is used to describe something that works well over a
period of time. In his essay, The Test of Time, William Gass explores this idiom in the scope of
literature, where he induces that the test of time is infinite and merciless. Works of art that take the test
find themselves struggling through the vicissitudes of history, along with compositions that are more
intune with the present. It is because of this gauntlet of time, where artworks outshine one another, and
mass culture, whose appeal to the masses amass more pleasure than rhetoric, that William Gass
enlightens us as to why works of art last. Good writing includes recursion: the ideas, the conscious,
and the experiences of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This new environment, is a dimension that the writer absorbs, retains, and transmits into writing.
Through each process, aspects of the environment changes, even after it is ejected onto paper, the
writer adds to it and takes out what he/she deems unnecessary. The outcome takes the test: if the
composition appeals the mind of the reader, it may live on indefinitely. However, the world that the
composition encompasses is not the world the author bases it upon. Gass gives the example of
Thoreau s Walden, events encouraged those words, events surprised them into existence, but Thoreau
made his memory, created water that never was... It was lovely to be on Walden Pond at midnight,
fluting fish, but lovelier and more lasting in the verbal than in the fishing lines, (Gass 125). Thoreau s
experiences fishing in Walden Pond is transposed onto his writing: certain aspects of that recollection
change, but the base is still there. Walden Pond may now be polluted by runoff, but Gass argues
Thoreau s crystal clear Walden Pond is still there in prose. Readers connect with the writer, and
conceives what the writer sees. Everything felt and written by the writer in the past is given to the
reader in his/her present. And as a result, the writer s composition transcends its time frame and

Kahlo s Self-Portrait With Cropped Hair
Suffering is a consistent and main theme of Kahlo s paintings. She chose to reveal her inner side
through a number of self portraits. As such, the fundamental theme was herself, and the primary
reason for painting them was to record the reality in which she lived. As she said, I paint self portraits
because I am so often alone, because I am the subject I know best. She probably could perform an in
depth self analysis through a mirror as she spent several of her time alone lying in bed (Kettenmann
Andrea, 2002). Except for a few still lifes she painted before her death, most of Kahlo s paintings were
portraits of herself and her family and friends. Among her 200 or so pieces of work, 55 pieces were

She painted this piece to identify her identity as Mexican. For this painting, she was inspired by an
image of a mother breastfeeding her baby, which is one of her collections of art before Columbus.
Kahlo also continued to show her interest in her identity or existence, including her patriotism,
lineage, and family, which can be seen in My Grandparents, My Parents and I (1936) (Figure 11). In
this painting, she is emphasizing her existence through a young self, standing behind a small tree,
holding a ribbon connecting her grandparents and parents. Her lineage can be revealed by taking a
look at her genealogy. In the painting, Kahlo s maternal Indian grandfather and maternal Spanish
grandmother stand next to her mother. A European couple, who are her paternal grandparents, is next
to her father. Kahlo is expressing her dual lineage by painting two different backgrounds on the left
and right sides, and is drawing attention to her existence by describing herself as an insecure child.
The ribbon s knot in her hands indicates the encounter between her mother and father, her fateful
birth, a blood bonding. The painting can be considered a family portrait that symbolizes her identity,
ethnicity, tradition, and

In the article, Slave girl in California, a girl named Shymia was sold into slavery by her parents and

of seeing tragic and horrifying event while in slavery he writes his life in a book in hopes of showing

Women s Gender Roles In The Company Of Wolves By Angela...
In the text The Company of Wolves by Angela Carter, woman s gender roles are portrayed in a
traditional and subvert way, while men are viewed as being tender beasts.
One idea about woman s gender roles is that they are oppressed and are expected to follow traditional
gender expectations. An example of this is the arrival of the woman s lost husband who tells her get
me my bowl of cabbage and be quick about it In doing this, woman are portrayed as being only good
for cooking and that they must follow all of man s orders. In addition, her second husband beat her for
still possessing feelings for her first husband which represents woman as not being allowed to express
themselves fully without consequences.
The idea that woman are surfaced

Immigration Scapegoats
In order to gain favor with the native masses, it seems that many politicians have used immigrants has
scapegoats. More to the point, when trying to find a way to isolate a country s problems whether it be
unemployment or the economy, most politicians try to find a scapegoat to blame for the mishaps of the
country s well being. For example, when the Marijuana tax act of 1937 was passed its sole purpose
was to halt the immigration of people from Mexico. Moreover, many blamed the immigrants from
Mexico for the usage of Marijuana. As the usage exponentially increased within the United States, the
political solution was a blame on immigration. This is but one of the many reasons immigrants
become targeted by politicians and the government. However,

Paramount Case Analysis Essay
1. WHY IS PARAMOUNT A TAKEOVER TARGET?
Paramount is a potential merger target to Viacom and QVC for a few key reasons outlined below:
Paramount Viacom:
(1) Synergy creation: The businesses of both companies are famous and highly complementary to each
other.
(2) Cost reduction: Paramount Viacom both have economies of scale and are doing business in a
similar industry.
(3) Addition of enhanced and complementary distribution capabilities, which will significantly
increase revenue.
(4) Better positioning: Will allow Viacom to gain a stronger competitive advantage against its peers.
The film industry is highly centralized and a takeover can help Viacom Paramount reduce their overall
competition, thus making them more profitable as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, Viacom seems like a much more viable target, for the main reason of having much greater
similarities with Paramount as compared to QVC.
3. VALUE PARAMOUNT AS A STAND‐ALONE COMPANY USING BOTH THE APV AND
WACC METHOD.
After making assumptions about various valuation metrics and figures, we were able to value
paramount as a stand alone company using both the APV and WACC methods.
Our base case valuation (APV) was $46.11 per share
Our base case valuation (WACC) was $40.92 per share
Our assumptions and calculations leading up to these valuations are outlined in our exhibits 1 through
5.
We have specified the sources of our assumptions in exhibit 1, with a detailed segment on assumptions
that might require further reasoning.
4. AFTER VALUING PARAMOUNT, COMPARE YOUR VALUATION TO THE MARKET PRICE.
ARE THEY SIMILAR? IF NOT, HOW CAN YOU RECONCILE THEM?
Upon arriving at $46.11 (APV) and $40.92 (WACC) valuations for Paramount, we noticed that these
valuations were at a discount to the market price of $55.50.
Our reconciliation for this undervaluation is that the market is already pricing in a takeover. Some
evidence of this can be demonstrated by the 1.0 beta of paramount. If we look at the 1992 Q1 to
August 30 1993 returns of S P500 and PCI, PCI is +30.6% and S P500 is +14.6%, which implies an

The Iran Contra Affair The Public
During the Iran Contra affair the public, as well as congress, were left in the dark about a deal was
made with the enemy country of Iran to sell weapons to them to aid in their war with Iraq. Once sold
the Profit were given to the Contras in Nicaragua. I will be arguing that advertising dollars, using the
military as a source, and flak were used to skew the public s perception of how the affair took place.
When all of this began President Reagan had told Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, who also worked
as the head of the National Security Council, that he needed a way to get Iran back on our side after
the fall of their previous leader Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, known as The Shah . While The Shah
was in power Iran was one of America s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now North had to find a way to both help the president fulfill his desire of getting Iran back on our
side and helping the Anti Communist regime down in south America. So North, along with other
government officials, sold the 12.5 million dollars worth of weapons to Iran for 30 million. To avoid
detection the 12.5 million was transferred into an American bank account while the remaining profit
of 17.5 million was transfer to a Swiss bank account. From there the money was wired to the Contras
and used in the war effort. Once this information had started spreading throughout the American
public artist began to make work based on the Conflict as both a way of raising awareness and to put
blame on those who are responsible. When looking at Steve Greenberg s work you see he is focusing
on President Reagan and adding in type that is an American citizen s point of view on how that affair
took place. Each from does not play out second to second but more in one motion then the next used
as a way to show a longer period of time passing. President Reagan was known for always having
jelly beans on his desk so that artist uses that as a way for the viewer to recognize who it is without
writing it somewhere on the page. This was one of multiple pieces of work Greenburg did as a way of
letting the American people know that even though he may not be taking blame for it, the President
knew what was happening. Others

Essay on The Role of Media During the Vietnam War
During the Vietnam War, Americans were greatly influenced by the extensive media coverage of the
war. Before the 1960 s and the intensification of the war, public news coverage of military action was
constrained heavily by the government and was directed by Government policy. The Vietnam War
uniquely altered the perception of war in the eyes of American citizens by bringing the war into their
homes. The Vietnam War was the first U.S uncensored war resulting in the release of graphic images
and unaltered accounts of horrific events that helped to change public opinion of the war like nothing
it had ever been. This depiction by the media led to a separation between the United States
government and the press; much of what was reported flouted ... Show more content on

After a disastrous battle in 1963, in which the U.S. had lost numerous helicopters and their aboard

the failed mission. The U.S. government tried to depict the mission as successful, indicating a major
point of divide between the government and the media, the media turned to the word of angry South
Vietnamese officials, angry U.S advisors, and hostile American pilots who risked their lives daily
without recognition as their basis of evidence regarding the incident and incidents to come. Another
question was left to be raised, where were these televised materials coming from? In accordance with
the actual content; much of what was recorded was done by the US Army photographic agency
beginning after much controversy caused by the filming of burning the village of Cam Ne by
American troops.
Furthermore, Americans placed trust in the presence of pictures, for they could see it happen. Because
it was a visual medium, television depicted the raw horror of war and primarily focused on the
negative. In addition, media recognized the potential for television to exploit the war s sensationalism
and to capture the minds of their viewers. The Tet Offensive was noted by many intellectuals

Group Dynamics In The Devil Wears Prada

between individual s can create both a positive or negative result, small to large groups. A platform is
formed from a diverse team generating potential for creativity and innovation. The organization could
have expediential advantage to build continuous success from collaboration. For the structure, it
would allow the necessary flexibility to create good and/or unhealthy practices, in which, could result
in the toxic high turnover and stressful environment or enriching environment for individuals to thrive

creating a culture allotting successful atmosphere. In fact, some organizations thrive in a traditional
culture while other usually depends on several factors such as industry, competition, and location. In
the movie The Devil Wears Prada, there are plenty of examples that demonstrate good and bad
practices. What I will be mainly focused on is the bad. Those practices result in various outcomes
from communication styles, downward and upward, and other specific behaviors. I will be reviewing

Summary Of The Movie Neanderthal
I think the movie did portray the neanderthals abilities realistically. When Charlie made fire, used
stone tools for his benefit, and hunted for small game in his habitat it showed a strongly realistic
perception of him. When looking at archaeological evidence, we see that Neanderthals could carry out
these duties and this is how they survived. Another time Charlie was perceived realistically was when
he adapted to his new environment so quickly. A neanderthal s frontal lobe shows some of the first
signs of advancement among early hominins. With this being said, Charlie figured out quickly how to
hunt game, communicate with Shepherd, and how to make fire in his new setting. Neandertals had to
have been skilled hunters. These findings are part of a growing body of literature that suggests
Neandertal subsistence behavior was more complex than previously thought (Wong, 2000). In the
movie, Shepherd questions if Charlie could interact socially with him and somewhat understand his
english. Charlie does a great job of showing social communication to Shepherd. He has his own kind
of language, which they interpret and understand what he is saying. Charlie also shows signs of
understanding what Shepherd says to him. When he told him no, Charlie kind of turns away or gets
upset as if he knew what no meant. When they realize Charlie is asking where his children are, he
draws children in the dirt. This proved that Charlie had potential for living among humans today.

Three thousand twins entered Auschwitz between 1940 and 1944. Only two hundred and fifty pairs of
twins ever had the smell of freedom again. Why did this unfortunate event occur? It occurred because
the Nazis party was in control and Adolf Hitler was the Fuhrer and he wanted a perfect race. Right,
left , what kind of a man could send people to their death with a flick of a cane, without one scent of
remorse or one inkling of guilt? his name was Josef Mengele. (Nazi304) Hitler gave Mengele all the

Hamlet s Delay
In William Shakespeare, Hamlet, the ghost speaks to Hamlet, claiming to be his father s spirit. Hamlet
is shocked at the revelation that his father has been murdered, and the ghost tells him that as he slept
in his garden, a villain poured poison into his ear, the villain who now wears his crown, Claudius. The
ghost urges Hamlet to seek revenge, telling him that Claudius has corrupted Denmark and Gertrude,
taken her from the love of her first marriage and seduced her in the lust of their incestuous union. The
ghost also urges Hamlet not to act against his mother in any way. Through out the play, Hamlet has

Claudius explains that he has written to the leader of Norway who is currently impotent and bed rid,
(Line 28) to suppress his nephew Fortinbras from pushing this issue. Claudius has done this by
dispatching Cornelius and Voltimand to Norway, the two men exiting after pledging their loyalty (Line
40).
On the other hand, in his first soliloquy, Hamlet expresses unhappiness and wishes he could commit
suicide since the uses of this world have become weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable to him but Hamlet
quickly reprimands himself for such thoughts, they are like weeds in a garden and a sin (Lines 132

Denmark is in a state of high alert and Claudius is preparing for possible war with Fortinbras, Hamlet
s depression supersede being fit to be King of Denmark. Hamlet confesses that his father was so
loving to my mother that he might not betweem the winds of heaven visit her face too roughly (Line
140) and yet within a month (Line153), his very own mother remarried Claudius. Hamlet continues
angrily as to generalizes that all woman like his mother are weak when he says, Frailty, thy name is
woman (Line 146)! Hamlet is second in line to be the King of Denmark but rather than working on a
resolution to save Denmark he is inadvertently depressed and obsessed

Edgar Allan Poe Outline
Edgar Allan Poe [1] Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 to October 7, 1849) was an American writer,
poet, critic and editor best known for evocative short stories and poems that captured the imagination
and interest of readers around the world. His imaginative storytelling and tales of mystery and horror
gave birth to the modern detective story. Many of Poe s works, including The Tell Tale Heart and The
Fall of the House of Usher, became literary classics. Some aspects of Poe s life, like his literature, is
shrouded in mystery, and the lines between fact and fiction have been blurred substantially since his
death. [2] Poe self published his first book, Tamerlane and Other Poems, in 1827. His second poetry
collection, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane, and Minor Poems, was published in 1829. As a critic at the Southern
Literary Messenger in Richmond from 1835 to 1837, Poe published some of his own works in the
magazine, including two parts of his only novel, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym. [3] In late
1830s, Poe published Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque, a collection of short stories. It contained
several of his most spine tingling tales, including The Fall of the House of Usher, Ligeia and William
Wilson. [4] In 1841, Poe launched the new genre of detective fiction with The Murders in the Rue
Morgue. His literary innovations earned him the nickname Father of the Detective Story. A writer on
the rise, he won a literary prize in 1843 for The Gold Bug, a

Determination In The Marble Champ By Gary Soto
Determination is all over but most don t reach for it. In The Marble Champ by Gary Soto the
protagonist Lupe is an extremely intelligent girl who is severely un athletic. The story is about her
quest for athletic glory. She ends up trying marbles and becoming a champ. Lupe is determined. This
is shown in the reasons that she practices constantly, she is determined to win, and that she is
determined to be good at a sport. My first reason, that she practices constantly is supported by the
author when he states she decided to do 20 pushups on her finger tips Lupe is not athletic at all yet she
is doing 20 push ups this is a very difficult thing to do even if you have some athletic talent let alone
none. Another piece of evidence that supports this reason is when Lupe squeezed an eraser one

author wrote that her thumb was so sore the next day that she could not practice and those lights let
her practice long into the night giving up valuable sleep to practice. She must be Determined to win

Hope In The Age Of Anxiety Analysis
I hope that you are right! I hope that things get better! I hope he is the one! We use this word hope so
loosely but what does it really mean. Hope is expectation with confidence and to cherish a desire with
anticipation. Though this is the formal definition, hope goes much deeper than what is on the surface.
In the book, Hope in the Age of Anxiety , by Anthony Scioli and Henry Biller they proclaim that,
Hope is a very basic human strength without which we couldn t stay alive (25, 26). So you see hope is
not only vital to our daily routine but to our existence as well. Hope is the unseen motivation to carry
us through and keep us connected with day to day life. Which is evident in this quote also from Mr.
Scioli and Mr. Biller, we look for hope to sustain us, whenever and wherever we can (18). For

are against him, he has faith that he will succeed. Hope makes you feel that failure is not an option.
Hope gives you the confidence you need to feel that anything is achievable. However, Hope needs the
idea of failure to be effective. My belief is followed up by Stan Van Hooft s quote, People will fail to
display the virtue of hope if they lack the confidence and hopefulness to embark on projects whose
success cannot be guaranteed (136). The thing that makes hope so great is that failure is just as evident
as hope is, however, most people look to choose hope to motivate them rather than

Jeffery Rosen s The Supreme Court

rivalries that shaped the transformation of laws and our lives. Rosen shows us the rivalries between
justices and their ideologies and how their ideologies have shaped our laws today. Starting in 1952
with President Harry S Truman and ending fifty four years later with the presidency of George W.

Throughout the book, Rosen analyzes specific traits of judges such as political parties and
appointment reason and so on. Rosen uses direct quotes from the judges to identify how judges have
to lean away from certain beliefs and lean towards other beliefs for the sake of keeping the country
free and under control. In each section, Rosen compares two justices and obviously favors one over
the other. But, as the author, he does recognize the flaws in his view, and the pros in the opposite view.
Rosen clearly favors justices who promote harmony in the court and create rulings with unanimous
decisions. But, Rosen will always comment on something positive about a judge he does not favor,
and will comment on something negative on the justice he does favor, balancing himself out. Another
key factor that informs the reader about how the law came about to be how it is today is by judicial
temperament. Rosen uses this as a key point while comparing the justices. Judicial Temperament
describes the judge s general attitude towards the law, and other judges. He states, If the pairings of
judicial temperaments in this book suggest anything, it is that courting attention and partisan approval
in the short term is no guarantee of judicial respect in the long term (Rosen). This means that while
comparing and contrasting temperaments that whenever something is decided, it doesn t mean it will

Technology Is The Weapon Of Choice
Since the beginning of time, mankind has been at war with himself for every imaginable reason. In
2700 BC Mesopotamia, the armies of Sumer and Elam went to war. During this first recorded conflict,
the bow was the weapon of choice. Over the next 4,700 years, the character of war has changed
dramatically with the introduction of new technologies such as iron, steel, and gunpowder. Today the
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) is the weapon of choice. For the U.S. military, the use of UAV
technology accelerated in the 1990 s and continued through the past 14 years of sustained conflict. In
2002, the United States had 167 UAVs and over 7,000 just 10 years later. Although UAVs do not
require a human in the cockpit, they are still controlled by a human who makes flight and targeting
decisions. However, technology is leading developers to push the envelope and develop weapon
systems that have the ability to act without human input or intervention, in all domains of warfare,
which like the airplane in WWI, could have dramatic implications for the character of future wars.
In 2010, the Department of Defense said that autonomy was the single greatest theme for advancing
modern unmanned systems. General Robert Cone, Director of the U.S. Army s Training and Doctrine
Command, stated, the Army is evaluating the possibility of replacing twenty five percent of manpower
in Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) with robotics and unmanned systems. Over 30 nations already

The Admin Curse Short Story
The Admin Curse
Long ago, a few years after the Ender Plague, Creator Notch had finally completed the creation of the
majority of the Worlds of Minecraftia. He had created it to be large enough for numerous players to
roam about and live in it. He had become content with his creation, but he could not watch over every
part of it by himself. He needed a form of assistance.
Notch had handpicked a group of players who exemplified an excellent leading ability to assist him in
the supervision of each section of the World of Minecraftia. This group preferred to call themselves
administrators of these sections, or Admins for short. They spent many years carefully watching over
each section of Minecraftia.
The Admins had decided to elect a secondary leader who would answer directly to Notch and inform
the other Admins of his requests. This would make the administration of Minecraftia more efficient.

Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities Of The Prince And Lao...
Government: A Profound Leader
Since the being of time, humans have sought out law, or government. Governments have been set in
place all throughout the world to try to maintain peace and order. As easy as it sounds, governments
can be demolished without the right leader. However, that is the catch, what makes a good leader?
Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities of the Prince and Lao Tzu s Tao te Ching gives some ideas on
how a leader should control their government. Although Machiavelli s and Lao Tzu s ideas do not
quite go hand and hand, there are some similarities. They both spoke similarly on how people should
feel about their leader. Lao Tzu views one of the best qualities of a leader is being loved by his people.
On the other hand, Machiavelli believes the best is to be loved and feared, but sense he thinks that is
impossible he had rather just be feared. Machiavelli and Lao Tzu are more opposite than alike.
According to Machiavelli, war should be a profession of a prince. He suggested a prince to think about
war all the time and know the surroundings constantly. However, Lao Tzu suggests a leader not to
force war on anyone because the outcome will result in revenge and not to waste time preparing for
war. Also, they had different views on what to do with their money. Machiavelli insisted on saving his
income for preparation of war, whereas Lao Tzu believed in sharing his money throughout the people.
Although Machiavelli and Lao Tzu would probably get in

I Walked Out One Evening By Robert Burns
Robert Burns Oh, my love is like a red, red rose and in W. H. Auden As I Walked Out One Evening
both write about how one loves a significant other for an eternity. Both poets use time measuring
devices to show how time could hinder the couple s feelings. Burns and Auden use the themes of love
and time to show that people will fall in love and that time will never stop. They both show how time
can affect the way that the lovers in the poems feel about one another.
In Burns poem, the speaker is newly in love, we know this because in line That s newly sprung in June
he means that his love is just blossoming. Time is an important key in this poem, the speaker says that
he will love his partner until the seas gang dry, my dear, and the rocks melt wi the sun he is saying that
he will love them until the end of time itself. Both poems use clocks as a symbol to help achieve the
meaning behind their poem. The clock in Burns poem is really an hourglass that he says And I will
love thee still, my dear, While the sands o life shall run. Burns is saying that even until after the last
grain of sand has run through the hourglass of life he will continue to love his lover. Burns poem uses
time as a continuation, as something that just flows through, something that cannot be changed and
something that is just a fact of life. Even when the lovers are apart they vow to love each other despite
time passing by without them seeing one another. Auden s poem has three different

Photography Observation Papers
On March 26, 2014 I visited a one artist photography exhibition held in the Thomas F. Riley terminal
at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California. This exhibition featured photography by Kevin Warn.
The type of work on display varied from black and white and color prints to very large prints, 16x20
or larger and smaller 8x10 prints. Most of the photos were printed on canvas and the others did not
mention the process that was used. Photographer Kevin Warn is a Wedding and Life Portraiture
photographer. His background includes photojournalism, high fashion photography, wedding
photography, portraiture, as well as stock photography. He is a locally and internationally published
photographer and is a resident of Fullerton, California. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I liked the composition of this photo. It was taken from underneath, looking down the length of the
pier. What I loved about this photo is that the pillars closest to the lens are much distorted and the
Pacific Ocean has soothing yet eerie radium like glow to it. It s a very strange photograph and I
absolutely loved it. The second photo was titled The Coffee Shop. Photo is a black and white print
taken in Italy 2010. It is of a group of men (I think) and they appear to be walking in the middle of a
road or alley away from the camera. What really liked about this photo is the graininess of it and the
contrast of the snow covered street and the dark clothing that the men are wearing. What I loved about
this photo is that I could feel the bone chilling cold, like I was actually there.
The last photo was another black and white print. This photo was titled Canals and was taken in
Amsterdam 2010. This photo seems to be taken from a bridge crossing over the canal or maybe from
some sort of vessel on the canal. I m just taking guesses; I am not familiar with Amsterdam. I liked
this photo because I can see all the way down this canal and there is so much detail in both the
shadows and the highlights of the photo, just

Cromwell Dbq
There have been a lot of heroic figures throughout the history of world. They contributed their lives to
their own nations, and sacrificed themselves as victims in order to achieve better goodness. Oliver
Cromwell is one of those heroic figures who contributed his entire life to take back the tradition of
England, which was deteriorated by King Charles I. Cromwell however isn t a typical hero in actual
facts many people wouldn t even consider him to be a hero at all. Cromwell is a controversial figure
who still has people wondering. Even now in the new millennium, people are still contemplating his
place in history hero or villain? Cromwell proudly took his place in a documentary on the top ten best
Britons, and ironically, also in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His ambition overtook him and he crushed us underfoot and all that would oppose him he had
removed. A man named Edmund Ludlow wrote this quote in 1698, Ludlow had fought alongside
Cromwell but disagreed with him taking control of the country in 1654. This quote is not biased as
Source A shows that Ludlow had no problems with Cromwell at first, but then later found himself
disagreeing with Cromwell s actions. This goes to show how Cromwell turned own his own people by
turning on his own words, and beliefs.
John Lilburne a leveller also quoted earlier in 1649, I would rather live seven years under the old king
s government at its worse than under this government. We were ruled before by king, lords, and
Commons. Now we are ruled by a general, courts martial and the Commons. What s the difference?
Lilburne was a leveller who believed that Cromwell betrayed them by refusing to give ordinary people
the vote; he wanted an all adult males to have the vote, and also wanted social reform to help the poor.
The levellers had support in London, and also in the army. And when Cromwell betrayed them, they
began to cause trouble in the army, so Cromwell suppressed them, a number of army levellers who
were leading it were shot.
Cromwell was undoubtedly wrong to execute the Levellers, as they had been loyal and fought for him
in the New Model Army. Without their help, Cromwell wouldn t have got very far as his army wouldn
t have been much without

  • 2. A Visit At The Bakersfield College Essay A visit that I would like to discuss was with my 21 years old Native American female and her newborn son in her home. The purpose of this home visit was to check how the infant was doing because he was in the NICU after birth to rule out sepsis and also to check how the mother was doing after the birth of her first child. She lives in her parent s house with her siblings and boyfriend, and total seven people live in that house. The new mother is currently is not working, but she is taking classes at the Bakersfield College. Her family is supportive, and the baby s father is involved in the care of the Infant. Approximately 1/3 of Native Americans live in poverty and experience the conditions related to poor living conditions such as tuberculosis, malnourishment, and higher maternal and infant death rates (Allender, Rector, Warner, 2014). Some of the common highest ranking health problems seen in Native American children are SIDS, congenital anomalies, obesity, type II diabetes, and morbidity and mortality related to injuries (Allender et al., 2014). Poor hygiene, packed housing conditions, and low immunization leads to the incidence of a variety of contagious diseases in Native Americans (Allender et al., 2014). • 3. Essay On Hyperthermia Many people have an understanding of what hyperthermia is and the reasons it may occur in an individual. Hyperthermia occurs when the body s core temperature reaches between 37 38°C due an inability to dissipate heat. In most cases, the occurrence of hyperthermia can be credited to a known reason. Examples include being outside in extremely hot temperatures without any cooling mechanism or vigorous exercise in extreme heat causing the body s temperature to rise. Hyperthermia is determined by an increase in core temperature at a rate of 1 2°C every five minutes (2, 11). However, in certain individuals, the use of general anesthesia can cause individuals to suffer from an inherited disorder known as malignant hyperthermia. The increase in metabolic activity occurs in response to inhalational anesthetics and depolarizing muscle relaxers, such as succinylcholine, and causes individuals to suffer from muscle rigidity, hyperthermia, and tissue damage (1, 2). If treatment is not initiated quickly, the individual may die from ventricular fibrillation or, if the situation is extended, the patient may die from renal failure (1). For treatment, patients are given dantrolene, a muscle relaxer that prevents the release of calcium. Once dantrolene was widely used as a treatment for malignant hyperthermia, the mortality rate from the disorder dropped from more than 80% to less than 7% (1, 5, 6). During exercise, water is lost in the form of sweat, as a way of helping to maintain a stable body temperature. Sweat losses vary from person to person and can be affected by an individual s genetics, body size and level of fitness. Also most people are likely to sweat more as it gets hotter and more humid, as well as with an increased level of activity. Sports drinks have a lot of salt and sugar in them and could make the athlete consume more calories than they are burning. Sports drinks are also sold to many children who would not be doing as much work as their idols do and would be consuming too much sugar for their daily recommended needs of 20 grams. Implant False Memory Literature Review Strategies and Techniques Used to Implant False Memories Memories are vital components in an individual s life because they give people a sense of identity. As individuals, we create memories throughout our everyday lives. Some memories may positively affect people, while others may negatively affect people. Although it may seem logical to think that memories are always reliable and accurate, a plethora of research has indicated that memories can be changed and created. The notion that memories should be reliable is prevalent in the judicial system when witnesses provide accounts of events because it is assumed that their memory statements are generally accurate (Shaw Porter, 2015). Roedieger III and McDermott (1995) defined false memories as remembering events that never happened, or remembering them quite differently from the way they happened (pg 803). Many people are aware that memory can fade and temporarily be unavailable. Sometimes false memories can be so compelling that they seem as accurate as true memories (Loftus, 2003). This literature review focuses on strategies and false memory paradigms utilized to create and implant false memories. Misinformation Effect The misinformation effect became prevalent in psychology during the 1970s when Elizabeth Loftus conducted research showing that individuals can form memories of events that never transpired by having events suggested to them (Leding, 2009). It is instead a guide promoting a six day workweek with the seventh day a day of worship to God. The last view is much like the second, in that it considers the days to be God s workdays, which may or may not be equal to an Earth calendar day. Upon arriving at $46.11 (APV) and $40.92 (WACC) valuations for Paramount, we noticed that these valuations were at a discount to the market price of $55.50. Our reconciliation for this undervaluation is that the market is already pricing in a takeover. Some

Once sold the Profit were given to the Contras in Nicaragua. I will be arguing that advertising dollars, using the military as a source, and flak were used to skew the public s perception of how the affair took place. When all of this began President Reagan had told Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, who also worked as the head of the National Security Council, that he needed a way to get Iran back on our side after the fall of their previous leader Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, known as The Shah . To avoid detection the 12.5 million was transferred into an American bank account while the remaining profit of 17.5 million was transfer to a Swiss bank account. From there the money was wired to the Contras and used in the war effort. Once this information had started spreading throughout the American public artist began to make work based on the Conflict as both a way of raising awareness and to put blame on those who are responsible. • 26. Essay on The Role of Media During the Vietnam War During the Vietnam War, Americans were greatly influenced by the extensive media coverage of the war. Before the 1960 s and the intensification of the war, public news coverage of military action was constrained heavily by the government and was directed by Government policy. The Vietnam War uniquely altered the perception of war in the eyes of American citizens by bringing the war into their homes. The Vietnam War was the first U.S uncensored war resulting in the release of graphic images and unaltered accounts of horrific events that helped to change public opinion of the war like nothing it had ever been. This depiction by the media led to a separation between the United States government and the press; much of what was reported flouted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a disastrous battle in 1963, in which the U.S. had lost numerous helicopters and their aboard crew, the press identified strategic blunder and saw reluctant Vietnamese infantrymen as the reason for the failed mission. The U.S. government tried to depict the mission as successful, indicating a major point of divide between the government and the media, the media turned to the word of angry South Vietnamese officials, angry U.S advisors, and hostile American pilots who risked their lives daily without recognition as their basis of evidence regarding the incident and incidents to come. Another question was left to be raised, where were these televised materials coming from? In accordance with the actual content; much of what was recorded was done by the US Army photographic agency beginning after much controversy caused by the filming of burning the village of Cam Ne by American troops. Furthermore, Americans placed trust in the presence of pictures, for they could see it happen. • 29. Summary Of The Movie Neanderthal I think the movie did portray the neanderthals abilities realistically. When Charlie made fire, used stone tools for his benefit, and hunted for small game in his habitat it showed a strongly realistic perception of him. When looking at archaeological evidence, we see that Neanderthals could carry out these duties and this is how they survived. Another time Charlie was perceived realistically was when he adapted to his new environment so quickly. A neanderthal s frontal lobe shows some of the first signs of advancement among early hominins. With this being said, Charlie figured out quickly how to hunt game, communicate with Shepherd, and how to make fire in his new setting. Neandertals had to have been skilled hunters. These findings are part of a growing body of literature that suggests Neandertal subsistence behavior was more complex than previously thought (Wong, 2000). In the movie, Shepherd questions if Charlie could interact socially with him and somewhat understand his english. Charlie does a great job of showing social communication to Shepherd. He has his own kind of language, which they interpret and understand what he is saying. Charlie also shows signs of understanding what Shepherd says to him. When he told him no, Charlie kind of turns away or gets upset as if he knew what no meant. When they realize Charlie is asking where his children are, he draws children in the dirt. • 33. Edgar Allan Poe Outline Edgar Allan Poe [1] Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 to October 7, 1849) was an American writer, poet, critic and editor best known for evocative short stories and poems that captured the imagination and interest of readers around the world. His imaginative storytelling and tales of mystery and horror gave birth to the modern detective story. Many of Poe s works, including The Tell Tale Heart and The Fall of the House of Usher, became literary classics. Some aspects of Poe s life, like his literature, is shrouded in mystery, and the lines between fact and fiction have been blurred substantially since his death. [2] Poe self published his first book, Tamerlane and Other Poems, in 1827. His second poetry collection, Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane, and Minor Poems, was published in 1829. As a critic at the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond from 1835 to 1837, Poe published some of his own works in the magazine, including two parts of his only novel, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym. [3] In late 1830s, Poe published Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque, a collection of short stories. It contained several of his most spine tingling tales, including The Fall of the House of Usher, Ligeia and William Wilson. [4] In 1841, Poe launched the new genre of detective fiction with The Murders in the Rue Morgue. His literary innovations earned him the nickname Father of the Detective Story. This is shown in the reasons that she practices constantly, she is determined to win, and that she is determined to be good at a sport. My first reason, that she practices constantly is supported by the author when he states she decided to do 20 pushups on her finger tips Lupe is not athletic at all yet she is doing 20 push ups this is a very difficult thing to do even if you have some athletic talent let alone none. Another piece of evidence that supports this reason is when Lupe squeezed an eraser one hundred times and when her dad rigged lights in the backyard so she could practice after dark. Hope is expectation with confidence and to cherish a desire with anticipation. Though this is the formal definition, hope goes much deeper than what is on the surface. In the book, Hope in the Age of Anxiety , by Anthony Scioli and Henry Biller they proclaim that, Hope is a very basic human strength without which we couldn t stay alive (25, 26). So you see hope is not only vital to our daily routine but to our existence as well. Hope is the unseen motivation to carry us through and keep us connected with day to day life. Which is evident in this quote also from Mr. Scioli and Mr. Biller, we look for hope to sustain us, whenever and wherever we can (18). For example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2700 BC Mesopotamia, the armies of Sumer and Elam went to war. During this first recorded conflict, the bow was the weapon of choice. Over the next 4,700 years, the character of war has changed dramatically with the introduction of new technologies such as iron, steel, and gunpowder. Today the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) is the weapon of choice. For the U.S. military, the use of UAV technology accelerated in the 1990 s and continued through the past 14 years of sustained conflict. In 2002, the United States had 167 UAVs and over 7,000 just 10 years later. Although UAVs do not require a human in the cockpit, they are still controlled by a human who makes flight and targeting decisions. However, technology is leading developers to push the envelope and develop weapon systems that have the ability to act without human input or intervention, in all domains of warfare, which like the airplane in WWI, could have dramatic implications for the character of future wars. In 2010, the Department of Defense said that autonomy was the single greatest theme for advancing modern unmanned systems. Governments have been set in place all throughout the world to try to maintain peace and order. As easy as it sounds, governments can be demolished without the right leader. However, that is the catch, what makes a good leader? Niccolo Machiavelli s The Qualities of the Prince and Lao Tzu s Tao te Ching gives some ideas on how a leader should control their government. Although Machiavelli s and Lao Tzu s ideas do not quite go hand and hand, there are some similarities. They both spoke similarly on how people should feel about their leader. Lao Tzu views one of the best qualities of a leader is being loved by his people. On the other hand, Machiavelli believes the best is to be loved and feared, but sense he thinks that is impossible he had rather just be feared. Machiavelli and Lao Tzu are more opposite than alike. According to Machiavelli, war should be a profession of a prince. He suggested a prince to think about war all the time and know the surroundings constantly. However, Lao Tzu suggests a leader not to force war on anyone because the outcome will result in revenge and not to waste time preparing for war. Burns and Auden use the themes of love and time to show that people will fall in love and that time will never stop. They both show how time can affect the way that the lovers in the poems feel about one another. In Burns poem, the speaker is newly in love, we know this because in line That s newly sprung in June he means that his love is just blossoming. Time is an important key in this poem, the speaker says that he will love his partner until the seas gang dry, my dear, and the rocks melt wi the sun he is saying that he will love them until the end of time itself. Both poems use clocks as a symbol to help achieve the meaning behind their poem. The clock in Burns poem is really an hourglass that he says And I will love thee still, my dear, While the sands o life shall run. Burns is saying that even until after the last grain of sand has run through the hourglass of life he will continue to love his lover.
