BTEC PERFORMING ARTS
Musical Theatre Techniques – PEER/TEACHER OBSERVATION
Instructions – Give this sheet to another member of the group/teacher. Ask them to
complete the first two sections and you must complete the response in the third section.
• Name of observer: Mrs Wilkins (Director)
• Name of performer being observed: Ria Back
• Workshop/Rehearsal: Matilda rehearsal with Choreographer Miss Dallard
• The observer must make comment on each of the following
1. Professional Attitude Comments
Punctuality & Attendance Consistent attendance to every
workshop and always arrives on time.
Often even uses the space in her own
time to rehearse.
Readiness to Work Dressed appropriately and always
warmup up before physical dance
sessions. Could benefit from hair tied
back.
Communication with other company
members during the rehearsal
Good communication with the group
and Choreographer. Ideas suggested
and engaged and eager for the whole
class to achieve. This was
demonstrated in this session as Ria
opted to lead the vocal section from
front middle.
Focus and attitude during the rehearsal Excellent focus throughout the
workshop and confident attitude
towards the work. However, when
performed sometimes gets the giggles
when something goes wrong rather
than remaining focussed.
Ability to take on board feedback from
other company members and use it to
improve own work
Excellent engagement in the post
workshop feedback session. Made
valuable points about spatial awareness
and use of props when dancing. Very
supportive towards others and
arranged extra rehearsals to improve.
BTEC PERFORMING ARTS
2. Conduct during rehearsals – Did this person behave in a positive and focussed way
during the rehearsals? Assess their contribution to the success of the rehearsal.
Please be as specific as possible
Ria behaves in a positive and focussed manner through all rehearsals and workshops,
particularly in this initial dance workshop with the choreographer Miss Dallard.
Dance is out of Ria’s comfort zone, but she behaved respectfully and professionally
throughout, supporting others and contributing ideas.
Ria supported the group by opting to lead the vocals (as this is her specialism) so she
placed herself in the middle of the group to lead with the timing. In this workshop she
helped with movement ideas and timing which the whole group struggled with. She
suggested the enter from areas of the stage and she worked on her posture and body
language to look like a young child. Ria was able to articulate her strengths and
weaknesses at the end of the session with a focus on her timing and what she needed
to do to improve. She suggested reducing the movements and working on it as a
group to make sure they all turned their heads at the same time and moved as a
group. Impressive leadership demonstrated in this session.
3. Performer response – will you make any changes to your working practises
following this observation? Be specific
In response to this, in future rehearsal I will be putting my hair up as I am I aware it will
mean it is out of my way so that my facial expressions are seen more and it is not annoying
me, and will improve my concentration, so that things can get done efficiently.

  • 1. BTEC PERFORMING ARTS Musical Theatre Techniques – PEER/TEACHER OBSERVATION Instructions – Give this sheet to another member of the group/teacher. Ask them to complete the first two sections and you must complete the response in the third section. • Name of observer: Mrs Wilkins (Director) • Name of performer being observed: Ria Back • Workshop/Rehearsal: Matilda rehearsal with Choreographer Miss Dallard • The observer must make comment on each of the following 1. Professional Attitude Comments Punctuality & Attendance Consistent attendance to every workshop and always arrives on time. Often even uses the space in her own time to rehearse. Readiness to Work Dressed appropriately and always warmup up before physical dance sessions. Could benefit from hair tied back. Communication with other company members during the rehearsal Good communication with the group and Choreographer. Ideas suggested and engaged and eager for the whole class to achieve. This was demonstrated in this session as Ria opted to lead the vocal section from front middle. Focus and attitude during the rehearsal Excellent focus throughout the workshop and confident attitude towards the work. However, when performed sometimes gets the giggles when something goes wrong rather than remaining focussed. Ability to take on board feedback from other company members and use it to improve own work Excellent engagement in the post workshop feedback session. Made valuable points about spatial awareness and use of props when dancing. Very supportive towards others and arranged extra rehearsals to improve.
  • 2. BTEC PERFORMING ARTS 2. Conduct during rehearsals – Did this person behave in a positive and focussed way during the rehearsals? Assess their contribution to the success of the rehearsal. Please be as specific as possible Ria behaves in a positive and focussed manner through all rehearsals and workshops, particularly in this initial dance workshop with the choreographer Miss Dallard. Dance is out of Ria’s comfort zone, but she behaved respectfully and professionally throughout, supporting others and contributing ideas. Ria supported the group by opting to lead the vocals (as this is her specialism) so she placed herself in the middle of the group to lead with the timing. In this workshop she helped with movement ideas and timing which the whole group struggled with. She suggested the enter from areas of the stage and she worked on her posture and body language to look like a young child. Ria was able to articulate her strengths and weaknesses at the end of the session with a focus on her timing and what she needed to do to improve. She suggested reducing the movements and working on it as a group to make sure they all turned their heads at the same time and moved as a group. Impressive leadership demonstrated in this session. 3. Performer response – will you make any changes to your working practises following this observation? Be specific In response to this, in future rehearsal I will be putting my hair up as I am I aware it will mean it is out of my way so that my facial expressions are seen more and it is not annoying me, and will improve my concentration, so that things can get done efficiently.
