Abortions Should Be Illegal
One hundred fifty thousand abortions happen every day, that s one hundred and five abortions
every minute around the world. A person who has had an abortion will feel many emotions. An
aborted baby could have been adopted by a family. An abortion kills an innocent baby that could
have been adopted by a family. Abortions should be illegal. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com
/releases/12951.php states that up to 30% of women will experience negative feelings after they
have had an abortion. This is because after they think they will never be able to get pregnant again.
Even before a woman has an abortion they experience negative feelings. Some women also
experience Post Abortion Stress Syndrome, it causes a woman to get depressed and have anxiety.

Essay on Intelligence Analysis
If you had that one piece of the puzzle that would have prevented the bombings of the twin
towers in New York and the Pentagon on September 11 2001 would you know it? If you saw
someone do something weird or suspicious before the attack on September 11 2001, would you
have called the police? If someone had walked into a United States Embassy in a foreign country
and said that they know someone was going to use a plane to destroy New York in two days, could
this have stopped the attack? IntelligenceAnalysis puts the raw sources of information together,
make predictions based on the data, and finally publish the results. Stephane Lefebvre wrote that

Putting the data into related groups that will either confirm, enhance or disagree with each group of

subject(s), and additional relevant information, begins toward a final conclusion. Different
predictions, conclusions or scenarios are made based on both the data and the analyst insight,
training and past experience. The results are sometimes rated based from most likely to occur to the
least likely to occur. As the International Journal of Intelligence and CounterIntelligence, writer
Stephane Lefebvre points out Of course, accurate estimates depend at least as much upon the
mental model used by the analyst as upon the accuracy and completeness of the information itself (

the analyst and the policy maker or consumer have to be aware of at all times, is that the
intelligence field does not know everything. On any given subject, the intelligence community
faces what is in effect a field of rocks, and it lacks the resources to turn over every one to see what
threats to national security may lurk underneath (Pillar).
While the intelligence analysis field is a small discipline, it can have its

The Influence Of Hollywood In The Golden Age
Unlike today, Hollywood in the Golden Age controlled the product that it released and followed
a certain accepted agenda. Today, films and TV shows coming out of Hollywood no longer have
political agendas, strict censorship codes, or follow conservative American values that existed
in the Golden Age. In addition, today moviegoers no longer yearn for deep, meaningful movies
that the Golden Age provided or care to take influence from Hollywood. Hollywood today is far
less controlled politically than it was in the Golden Age, but today still tries to influence
viewers on what really goes on in politics in a negative light. Hollywood is No Longer controlled
by Tradition Conservative Values. Historian Franklin states the movie industry was a monopoly
until 1960. (Franklin 37). That from the Golden Age, spanning from the 1920s to the 1960s the
movie industry was capable of controlling the content of its films (Franklin 37). In fact,
Hollywood did a very good job of doing so, because most of the movies and shows before the
1960s had very traditional American conservative values with the strong patriarchal father figure
with a conventional family module. One example of these shows with strong American values
that I can think of that my parents grew up watching was Leave it to Beaver. Hollywood
producers and directors had these values under their grasp to portray how American families
should be among viewers. There is a far less political monopoly on themes coming out of

Owen Meany Themes
IMPORTANT THEMES PRESENT IN THE NOVEL
There are numerous themes and motifs present in the novel, but in the following section, only three
primary themes will be stated this includes: Faith, Friendship, and Fate. One of the most recurring
themes throughout the novel is Faith in God. From the opening lines of the novel he is the reason I
believe in God; I am a Christian because of Owen Meany (Page 3), to the last sentence of the
novel O God please give him back! I shall keep asking You.(Page 627) . It is evident that faith has
influenced this novel in every possible way. Owen is the character in whom this theme is clearly
evident since he believes in the idea of there being a reason and explanation for everything. The

It is an incredible novel told in a gripping form that was difficult to put down. The novel
amalgamates both sorrow and humor to produce the perfect balance. I personally prefer not to
read lengthy novels spanning 600+ pages, so when I first began to read the novel I was
uninterested in the extensive details and descriptions, but as I progressed into the novel I began to
fall in love with the character Owen Meany and his persona, that I couldn t resist putting this
novel down. I found the novel to be life changing as it irrefutably reflects the perpetual axiom that
you don t have to be someone great in order to be an influence for others. After all, it is the minute

Constructivism Essay
Empiricists and rationalists have proposed opposing theories of the acquisition of knowledge,
which appear unable to coexist. Each theory holds its own strengths but does not demonstrate a
strong argument in itself to the questions, Is knowledge truly possible? and How is true knowledge
obtained? . Immanual Kant successfully merged the two philosophies and provided a convincing
argument with his theory of empirical relativism, or what some may call constructivism. His theory
bridges the gap between rationalismand empiricism and proves that empiricists and rationalists each
present a piece of the full puzzle. In order to truly understand Kant s epistemology, one must first
review and understand both empiricism and rationalism on an... Show more content on

This initiates the principle of induction, which is the assumption that the future will be like the
past. An example of this would be every time smoke is seen, one will inevitably look for the fire
that is causing the smoke. This is because based on previous experiences, it is known to be true
that fire causes smoke. One notable problem with pure empiricism is that it does rely upon
reasoning. If the concept of causality is true, there must be some form of reasoning to be able to
relate one action to a reaction. Hume s principle of induction assumes that one experience will be
similar to a previous experience under similar circumstances. It takes a measure of reasoning to
assume that the previous experience of dropping a glass would result in the same consequence
when dropping a vase. To account for this, Hume believes that reason draws connections between
concepts in the mind, but it cannot form connections between those ideas in the external world
(Lawhead, 2010). Hume divided reasoning into 2 categories: namely, relations of ideas and
matters of fact. This dichotomy between relations of ideas (which are logically necessary, but tell
us nothing about the world), and matters of fact (which tell us about the world, but which are not
certain), is often called Hume s fork (Lawhead, 2011, p. 108).
Rationalism
In contrast to empiricism, rationalists claim that knowledge is gained from reasoning. It is through
reason that the

St. Paul s Influence On Religion
The Catholic church throughout history has pushed to the boundaries of society. Not just stopping
at spreading the gospel around the world, but also educating, helping the less fortunate, and being a
blessing to everyone. One person who helped inspire all of this was St. Paul.
St. Paul was one of the most influential and important of all the saints. St. Paul was born in Tarsus
in A.D. 10 and died around A.D. 64. St. Paul, the Apostle, is often considered to be the second most
important person in the history of Christianity. St. Paul was originally known as Saul and was a
Roman citizen. He experienced a powerful vision that caused him to convert to Christianity and he
changed his name to Paul after he was baptized.
Paul traveled the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The letters that survived became part of the bible. Paul s writings are important because they
provide good advice for how christians should live their daily life. While preparing for a
missionary trip to Spain, he was imprisoned in Caesarea by the Jews for two years, but that didn t
stop him. After he was released, he traveled again and was imprisoned for another two years for
preaching in Rome.
Paul traveled more and finally returned back to Rome. Paul was arrested in Rome for a second
time and this time he was beheaded under the Emperor Nero. Paul is one of the most famous,
intelligent, and influential, of the apostles. St. Paul is the patron saint of missionaries, evangelists,
writers, journalists, authors, public workers, rope and saddle makers, and tent makers. His feast
day is on June 29 when he is honored with Saint Peter. He is also honored on many other days
throughout the year.
St. Paul was important. He was intelligent. He was influential. Most importantly, he was faithful.
Despite all of his struggles, he still spread the word of God. Paul s good advice established the way
for all Christians to live. His conversion shows us the real power of God. Paul taught us that In a

The Message of the Gettysburg Address
The Message of the Gettysburg Address
In 1863, the sixteenth President of the United States found himself engulfed by a horrific civil war
and in leading his people to victory, Abraham Lincoln found himself in a predicament that required
a well thought out motivational presentation. He found that opportunity with the address at
Gettysburg. President Lincoln knew his people were dissatisfied with the loss of so many
comrades and knew there must be a way he could prove that the lives of so many fallen soldiers,
husbands, and sons were worth the efforts to restore the land of the free. The statement made in the
Gettysburg Address to the people was a perfect example and in essence the embodiment of perfect
communication.

Tare Research Paper
Scholars believe tares are darnel (a noxious weedy rye grass often found in grain fields), whose
seeds become toxic when certain fungi infest them, which in turn, renders them harmful to cash
crops such as wheat. Uprooting them also uproots the wheat; therefore, farmers leave them in the
ground until harvest time when the chaff can be safely separated from the grain and subsequently
burnt. Good and evil similarly co exist in the local church, which underscores the for all people
aspect Church. However, problems arise when error receives equal voice to the Truth. The Truth
shakes up the Church. Only Christ (The Word of Truth) can separate wheat from tares, truth from
falsehood, and fact from fiction. Like an ox, threshing grain tied to a millstone, the worshiping
church must circle God s Truth threshing out disciples. Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading
out grain (1 Cor 9: 9), St Paul warns. In other words, do not hinder or silence those who are doing
Christ s work. Because it was a common activity in ancient times, the Old Testament often mentions
threshing grain. For example, Solomon built his temple on the threshing floor David bought from
Oman the Jebusite (1 Chron. 22:1). Another time, Ruth came to Boaz at the threshing floor. Boaz

Afrail Empire Research Paper
Time waits for no man When the village of Afrail was first discovered, an enormous stone fell
from the heavens. No one knew how or why it had fallen, but it seemed to possess a special
power. Over time, the stone split and carved itself into an extraordinary village. This small town
grew in power; it succeeded in its conquest of other areas, and advanced in science. The town of
Afrail always had a prolific amount of food and goods available, so trade blossomed. Afrail
created a powerful empire with a military who had a reputation of being fearless warriors.
Throughout the capital extravagant and adoring buildings glimmered in the sunlight; however
none were as magnificent as the vast palace of the king. The palace towered over the village, and
believed to be the stairway to heaven. The building was made of the same rock as the meteor and
its outer edges framed in gold and precious jewels. The palace watched over the City of Afrail, and

Due to the last war, the Anchs were almost annihilated from existence. They saw only one
solution to destroy the Afrail Empire, to suspend its existence in time. The tribe
circumnavigated the globe to find a sorcerer that would solve the problem. The leader found an
old man who on his deathbed told him the secret. When the Anch had returned they were wiser
than ever before. Desperate to put their plan in action the Anch scrambled to create their potion.
The Anch tribe knew that only time itself could stop time; therefore, they found a way to
transform a city into a form of time. The spell was a success; the empire transformed into one
giant moving clock with a missing gear in between the cogs that ran the city. Everything was still.
The adoring houses, people, and the mighty army were all a piece of an unsolved puzzle. The
palace that once overlooked the empire was now a clock tower, where the missing gear was

Critical Success Factors
Quality is a very important factor in restaurants because a visit in a restaurant is usually something
people do to enjoy rather something that is of vital importance. Even if the prices for the meals in
a restaurant are low and the delivery times short this cannot compensate for poor quality of the food
, specially also because this is a health aspect. This makes it necessary to implement a quality
controlsystem to ensure that the quality of the food is always on a high level.
In a restaurant, there are 6 important areas which have to be considered.

Compare And Contrast The Motives Of The French And Spanish...
The motives of the French,Dutch and Spanish empires had a lot of similarities when they where
coming over to the New World. They all revolved around the same concepts power money, and
spreading their dominant faith. They did vary quite a bit when it came time to set up colonies in
the New World. Spain was convinced that Catholicism was far superior to any other religion.
Because of this the pope require Spainto spread Catholicism around the Americas. The Spanish say
that their main goal of colonization was to rescue the Indians from their barbaric ways, and to
prevent them from becoming Protestants. They did not want to eliminate the Indians, instead they

Their primary motivation behind the French empire was trying to find the Northwest Passage
which would connect the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Their religious views towards the Indians

Europeans. Unlike the Spanish explorers the French allowed Christian Indians to a little more

were far different compared to those of the French and Spanish. They took a lot of honor in the
fact they were very tolerant in religious matters. They came to the New World with more of a

Examples Of Loss Of Innocence In Fly Away Peter
How does Malouf show the loss of innocence in Jim during World War One?
David Malouf s novel Fly Away Peter charts out the life of protagonist, Jim Sadler. Jim Sadler
starts the novel as an innocent young man who lives on the Coast of Queensland. As Jim shows
his love and appreciation for birds, he ends up getting a job at a sanctuary owned by Ashley
Crawthaw. His job was to watch for the birds that migrated to and from the sanctuary. Throughout
the novel the readers are taken on the journey that Jim faces, from the innocence of a young adult
to the horror and brutality of the war. At the beginning of the novel the audience is introduced to
Jim while he is gazing in the far distance to where the swamp ended and the farmlands
began(Malouf, D. Pg.1). Jim s love for birds was strong, everything about them just amazed him
he could sit for hours and watch them while naming each as he proceeded into the day. By being
in the sanctuary, Jim is protected from the harsh reality of the outside world. Having grown up in
the country, he is oblivious to how cruel the world is. Once exposing himself to the outside world
and goes to the town centre, without much awareness regarding the war, he feels pressured to join
the War Effort. Jim is aware of the need to extend his experiences within life and acknowledges the
changes that war will certainly bring. On Jim s arrival to the trenches he is hit with the harsh reality
he thought he would never understand. Being so distant from the

and becoming more and more technologized, where women are needed to work in the workforce
rather than be treated less than men. Factories and many workplaces were developing efficient

The NOW group believed that this nation has a capacity at least as great as other nations, to

their entitled freedom from the Constitution but will help the men out in their respective
households. The workloads and family s economic burdens would not only be the man s
problem, the women could help the family out by working in the workforce also. Women worked
while the men were off to work during the World War II and took care of the families, why should

Physics of Pinball Essay
Physics of Pinball
Pinball is a fast pace game of physics and skill. With the knowledge of the mechanics and the
physics of how the game works it can be played more effectively. Friction, gravity, potential energy,
kinetic energy, circuits and momentum are just a few of the aspects of physics apply.
The first thing to do to start a game of pinball is to insert the coin. This alone requires many
fundamental aspects of physics. The player inserts the coin and lets gravity take over. Gravity
accelerates the coin to a certain speed in a specific direction or what is called velocity. The coin,
which has mass, is now moving at a certain velocity. The coin now has linear momentum. To find
the momentum of the coin we would take the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The player has now compressed the spring in the ball shooter. The ball sitting in the ball shooter
is at rest. It will be at rest until acted on by an unbalanced force. This is Newton s first law of
motion, the law of inertia (Kirkpatrick and Wheeler p31). The ball shooter is then released the
spring decompresses and strikes the ball sending it up the incline to the top of the pinball playing
field. The strike on the ball is called the impulse. The time interval it takes for the ball momentum
to change. Since the ball has no momentum because it has zero velocity the ball shooter transfers its
momentum at the impulse (The Ball Shooter 2003). This also takes place in the time frame of
about a second.
The ball now has kinetic energy. Kinetic energy like momentum in that it comes from the mass
of the object and its velocity. Kinetic energy was transferred from the plunger to the ball just
like momentum was but only if the collision was elastic. During and elastic collision kinetic
energy is conserved. The balls kinetic energy is half of its momentum squared. This means the
balls momentum is its mass multiplied by velocity, and then it is squared and divided by two. If
the velocity or speed of the ball is reduced by one half then the overall kinetic energy is reduced by
a factor of four (Kirkpatrick and Wheeler p.106)
The ball uses this kinetic energy to move up the usually 6 to 7 degree incline to the top of the
playing field. The kinetic

Supplier or vendor selection decisions are complicated by the fact that various criteria must be
considered in decisions making process. The analysis of criteria for selection and measuring the
performance of suppliers has been the focus of many scientists and purchasing practitioners since
1960s. The majority of research about supplier selection problem mentions Dickson s study [9]. It is
based on a questionnaire sent to 273 purchasing agents and managers selected from the membership
list of the National Association of Purchasing Managers, which include agents and managers from
the United States and Canada. Dickson s study describes the importance of 23 criteria for supplier
selection which are classified with respect to their importance observed in the beginning of the
sixties. At that time, the most significant criteria are quality of the product, the on time delivery, the
performance history of the supplier and the warranty policy used by the supplier. Table 2.1 Dickson

The Cherokee Indians Essay
The Cherokee Indians
The American Indian History in the Eastern part of the country is always associated with the
Cherokee Indian nation. The Cherokee s were by far the largest and most advanced of the tribes
when Europeans first arrived and came in contact with Native Americans. There are too many
tribes to go over background on every one of them, so I m going to focus on the Cherokee s since
many of their ways and customs are so similar to all the other tribes in the East.
When Europeans first arrived in North America, the Cherokees occupied a large expanse of
territory in the Southeast. Their homeland included mountains and valleys in the southern part of
the Appalachian Mountain chain. Their

The Cherokees practiced a variety of crafts, including basketwork and stamped pottery. They also
carved, out of woods and gourds, masks representing good and evil spirits. These masks were used
during their many hunting, agricultural and healing rituals. They held these ceremonies at key
times of the year, such as harvest time.
Each village was run by two chiefs. The White Chief, or Most Beloved Man helped the villagers
make decisions concerning farming, lawmaking, and disputes between individuals, families, or
clans. He also played a large role in religious ceremonies. The Red Chief gave advice concerning
warfare. One such decision was choosing who would be the War Woman, an honored woman
chosen to accompany braves on their war parties. The War Woman did not fight, but helped feed
the men, offered them council, and decided which prisoners would live or die. The Red Chief was
also in charge of the lacrosse games which were called
quot;little wars. quot; Lacrosse was played within tribes and against other tribes. It is one of the
first known friendly competitions between Indian tribes.

Identifying Differences Among Businesses
Identifying Differences Among Businesses In order to identify, analyse and evaluate the major
differences along the supply chain between the business to business (B2B) and the business to
consumer (B2C) marketing in the manufacture and retailing of fast moving consumer goods, it is
important to define the different terms. According to Wright, the supply chain can be defined as the
entire network of suppliers, factories, warehouses, distribution centres and retailers that participate
in the process from raw materials to finished products. (www.soltempo.com) The fast moving
consumer goods (FMCG) can be defined as the retail goods with a short shelf life either as a result

The research market In B2B, Wright states that the pressure to get industrial products with the right
benefits to market ahead of the competition is the main concern (Wright 2004). Secondary
researches such as the market, the trends are more used than primary researches as organisations
activity is based on economic and industrial trend. In B2B, there is a focus on making the products
matching the consumer demand. Secondary researches are needed but primary researches about
consumers psychology are more important as their wants and needs are changing over the years.
(Minett 2002) 2.5. The segmentation In B2B, customers are segmented by industry and individual
company needs as they are not numerous. There are two types of segmentation, the macro
segmentation and the micro segmentation. Both must provide the supplier with added value to
offer. The macro segmentation uses different factors: it distinguishes one sector from another, one
industry from another and one type of organisation from another (Wright 2004). Segmentation is
by: В· type of market: industrial and/or consumer markets В· geographical area В· type of
industries: manufacturing, service or agricultural industries В· public, private or not for profit
sector В· small, medium or large companies В· products and services offered The micro
segmentation subdivides into smaller segments

Daniel Orozco Orientation Summary
The workplace serves as an environment that dehumanizes the employees that make up its
community and expels anyone who opposes its practices. This statement proposes that the
workplace in Daniel Orozco s Orientation is very black and white and hosts very few shades of
grey. The employees are trained to follow a specific set of rules and regulations that will ultimately
make the workplace an almost robotic and emotionless environment. Although a community is
present in the workplace, the personal lives of the employees must not be seen; for fear that it may
interfere with the job at hand that must be done at the end of the monotonous eight hour work day.
The workplace is a robotic environment that does not require skill, but memorization... Show more

For instance, If you make an emergency phone call without asking, you may be let go. (1061).
Orozco shows how even the most minor offense could lead to your impending unemployment.
This is another way of showing how the typical workplace is so micromanaged that it even
further dehumanizes the employees because they can be replaced easily. Gwendolyn Stich is a
perfect example of how the typical workplace environment only looks upon the merit of her
work but does not look at her as a human being. The narrator explains that the employees have
found Gwendolyn crying in the stairwell of the office and even goes as far as saying, She does
not let any of this interfere with her work. If it interfered with her work, she might have to be let
go. (1064). The language used by the narrator, especially when saying that the employees would
be let go seems very nonchalant and generalized, insinuating that firing employees is just another
practice of the typical work day. Normalizing an act like firing an employee, shows that the
authority in the workplace does not necessarily care about the well being of the employees but only
of the work they

How Does John Keats Use Personification In The Four Seasons
In The Human Seasons the author, John Keats, uses personification while describing the four
seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. There is such a deeper meaning to this poem than
one may realize. The four seasons actually represents distinctive phases/stages that are terrifically
vital for life to exist. Tho s stages are birth, childhood, adulthood, and death. This is proven by
Keats when he states that Four Seasons fill the measure of the year; There are four seasons in the
mind of man. By stating that He has his lusty Spring, when fancy clear Takes in all beauty with an
easy span, the author is describing spring as being a period of lust and when everything is beautiful

Masculinity
In my opinion, Masculinity versus femininity is about the value system refers to genders s role in
society. If some country has a low number of masculinuty, means that country s values systems
refers to feminimity which is the society is caring others and have a good life quality. But if the
country has a high score of masculinity, that is mean the country s society is driven by competition
and thought that be the winner means succsessfull.
Example:
US has 62 for masculinity, it means that US s society is much to masculin. They want to have a lot
of achievement as their succes standard, they would love to compete and be the winner instead.
Japan has 95 for their score, it shows that Japanese is an absolute masculin, their succsess is define
by they become the winner or they can be the best in their field or not. So Japanese can easily

The Pros And Cons Of Student Debt
College is part of the American Dream, it shouldn t be a part of a financial nightmare for families
Barbara Mikulski, United States Senator. Student debt is a rising issue in America; 43.3 million
students are in debt at this moment, and this number increases every year. In other developed
countries, educationis free or low cost and works well economically. Countries like Germany,
Sweden, Australia, Denmark, and France have extremely affordable collegetuition, so what do
these countries do to make education so affordable? What do American politicians and citizens

People who support free college believe it will benefit the entire nation. As technology industries
grow, as well as the need for employees with higher education; a college educated workforce would
be able to fill these desperately needed job positions, which in turn will make America s
economy grow stronger. Billions of dollars could be added in the economy if these jobs were
filled. People tend to spend more money when they have little debt and higher wages. It could
also mean that the government would take in a lot of extra tax revenues, which could go a long
way toward paying for free public colleges.
With affordable college, people would have more freedom to expand talents, try new ideas, and
pursue the lives they want. Without worrying about crushing debt, these people would have
more freedom to live their lives to the fullest. That could lead to happier citizens, which would
make our nation more prosperous as a whole. This is known as Happiness Economics, which
states that people who are happier work harder, and that places with happier people had higher
retail sales, which improves the economic climate and helps lessen the effects of a recession ,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Haruki Murakami s Colorless...
Readers heavily associate famed Japanese author Haruki Murakami with the genre of magical
realism and consider his novel Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage to be a
departure from that genre, but realism hardly characterizes Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and its
multitude of fantastical elements. Readers encounter dreams that ambiguously blend into reality,
characters who straddle multiple realities, and a narrative that unabashedly abandons a linear and
chronological structure. Even Murakami s protagonist Tsukuru struggles to maintain a clear sense
of reality within his life. Ultimately, Murakami s conception of an objective reality is a mirage

Murakami creates an intersection between these two antithetical realities through Shiro s
pregnancy. After her rape allegedly by Tsukuru Shiro becomes pregnant. Her pregnancy represents a
junction between the two realities because it is a real and physical consequence that manifests in
Tsukuru s reality based on an act committed in Shiro s reality. Although Murakami presents the
reality in which Tsukuru is the victim first, he never fully gives one reality preeminence over the
other as the plot unfolds. Instead, even Tsukuru finds himself unable to pick which of these realities
represents an objective truth. Furthermore, Murakami prevents his audience from assuming the
supremacy of either Tsukuru or Shiro s realities by paralleling their journeys as victims. After his
friends abandon him, Tsukuru loses his appetite and consequently loses a massive amount of
weight. Similarly, after her assault, Shiro develops such a severe eating disorder that at one point

had the will to live even before her murder. The most poignant parallel Murakami introduces
between Tsukuru and Shiro s journeys as victims is that after Shiro s assault, she d lost her glow

Middle Ages Essay
Middle Ages
The history of the modern world derives from thousands of years of human history. Embedded in
its history are the many eras of man which have constructed our modern learning, art, beliefs, and
order. The middle ages, although represented as dark , backwards, and idle, were in fact a bridge
linking the classical and modern world. Medieval society may not have been in a sense glorious,
but the era of itself was a prime foundation of the modern world s newfound stability, a revival of
the law and teachings from the classical era, a reinvestment and reform in the church, and a
precursor to the golden age of art.

AS revolutionary as the transition was to the feudal system, the practice proved to be efficient in
the modern world.
The influence of universities and merchants, as seen, changed the kingdom. Medieval universities
were first formed in the 12th century AD after a need for educated public officialsbecame evident.
Schools like the Law School at Bologna as well as medical schools gave towns lawyers, judges
and capable local officials. Other schools like the University of Paris taught scholars literature
and theology. The breed of Renaissance thinking was most likely developed in such places.
Scholars like Peter Abelard and Thomas Aquinas led an interest in the study of classical Greek
and Roman philosophy. This interest, along with challenged perspectives of the time eventually
led to modern science. Guilds, as afore mentioned, were monopolistic practices over certain trades
set by merchants. They virtually eliminated competition and ensured quality. Compared to
Renaissance art, and Shakespearean and Elizabethan literature the precursor saw little. However,
works like Chaucer s Canterbury Tales were popular, and the Gothic architectural style laid a
foundation for many cathedrals and buildings. It is still a dominant facade in today s world and
was relished in modern Western Europe. A powerful education system and study of art are
necessary for society s to flourish and carry it s roots into the next era;

The Rise Of Sustainable Design
Introduction
Sustainability, today s buzz word that has gained popularity as more people have become aware of
its importance, can be seen in the designed sites that function in harmony with the landscape and
natural systems. The rise of sustainable design can be contributed to the advocacy of
environmentalism through organizations and increase of designers with environmental
philosophies. Michael Manfredi and Marion Weiss are examples of such designers, bringing
sustainable design to the public realm. Influenced by their social and cultural experiences, Weiss
and Manfredi bring together the architectural and the natural. One of their best examples of this is

In figure 1 you can see the visitor center s lines and shapes, which help guide the visitor from the
street into the various sectors of the garden. Light is feature key to the site s form. The visitor
center s many windows allow light to be important in creating its form. The large use windows also
lessen the dependence on electricity use for artificial lighting, maximizing natural illumination. The
curved glass walls of the center s gallery are a mediating surface between the building and the
landscape . The visitor center s white color gives it a modern and sleek aesthetic. Another major
component of the site is its asymmetry, adding to its sinuous organic form. The center s spatial
elements create a nuanced progression of outdoor, indoor, and covered spaces , which keeps a
strong connection between the outdoors and indoors. The visitor center also contains recycled
material and salvaged materials from the trees that were cut down for construction. These elements
are key to the visitor center s form and can be seen throughout Weiss and Manfredi s designs.
Today, the importance of sustainability has spread into design. This is apparent in the Botanical
Garden s visitor center. The center s placement between the urban and natural landscape represents
today s new movement in sustainability, which no longer has the urban and the natural separated or
merely juxtaposed but integrated into each other, coming from the concept of rus in urbe . The

An Analysis Of Judie Randall Put Her Daughter, Michele...
Judie Randall put her daughter, Michele Song, up for adoption in hopes of giving her a better life
with another family. Michele Song s files were sealed by the law, and at the age of 31, after 13
years of petitioning, a social worker was allowed to give non identifying information about her birth
motherand father. Eventually the social worker allowed Song to write a letter in the hopes she
could get it to her. Michele Song waited for her daughters birth to contact her birth mother in the
hopes of meeting her (Carroll 355). This essay was successful because of her style, her use of
figurative language, and her content. This letter was clearly an impulsive one. In fact, she did
not include a salutation. One can only assume it was because she had no idea how her birth
mother, Judie Randall, would react when she saw the letter or if she even wanted to speak to
her. Song was most likely very nervous about Randall s reaction and didn t want to scare her
away or to feel awful about giving her up. It was clear through Songs diction that all she knew
when she started was that she wanted to meet her birth mother. Song had no idea what she was
trying to say in fear of losing the chance of speaking to her birth mother and you can tell because of
the dramatic difference between the first and the last paragraph. The first paragraph was full of
rhetorical questions and scatter brained explanations for the letter, which made her seem nervous.

Let Me Die
Let Me Die I Want Eternity In May Miller s Poem Death is not Master the persona explains that
death is not the master that will increase desperation, but it is a way to become eternally calm.
Many poems on the topic of death explain how it is as powerful of a thing that fears the
existence of human beings, but Miller s persona death is used in such way to achieve eternal
serenity. She explains death as something that can end all the worlds tears, desires and tension
and transform the human memory into a sculpture which is unaware of tensions. Miller s
persona believes that by blocking death it will be unfair as it will be a barrier to the everlasting
happiness and calmness that lies inside the grave. It is an elaboration of Christian beliefs of
how death ends all worldly problems as an eternal life starts after the death. The eternal life of a
human or corpse after death is same as that of sculpture which shines at night and remains in one
place free of all tensions and problems. As the life after death is full of calmness and happiness,
so it must not be blocked and everyone must welcome it to gain the everlasting lasting life. Thus,
conveying Miller s idea of how the perspective death is not the master; instead, it is the slave of
eternal life of serenity and calmness that lies ahead. So, no one should try to become a barrier by
blocking the death. Repetition of you six times and I three times symbolizes the relationship

Determination In Where The Red Fern Grows
Novel Theme Essay Michael Jordan once said, Some people want it to happen, some wish it
would happen, others make it happen. In order to achieve your goals, you must work for it and

and actually take a risk. This quote shows the theme of determination in Where the Red Fern
Grows, by Wilson Rawls. The theme of determination is shown in section one of this book. On
pages 20 through 21 when Billy worked consistently for two hard years collecting money to buy
pups. This shows the theme of determination because Billy was determined to earn enough money
to buy two coon hounds to hunt and play with. Furthermore, the theme of determination is shown
on pages 27 through 28, when Billy went through a long, hard journey on foot to go get his dogs.

The Whiskey Rebellion and the Whiskey Tax
The Whisky Rebellion
In 1791, under President George Washington, there was a vigorous debate within the House of
Representatives to approve legislation to enact an excise tax on whiskey. They choose to pass this
law 35 211 because of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, who was the secretary of the treasury at the
time, was faced with the task of paying off the U.S. debt after the revolution. Hamilton was an avid
believer in a strong central government which requires a lot of funding. He realized there was an
abundance of alcohol circling around the U.S. at the time that was being both imported and created
here that could be taxed. Hamilton stated that there would be millions of gallons imported into New
York that would potentially give the government two hundred thousand pounds1. Hamilton
particularly pushed this tax to be passed more as a measure of social discipline than as a source of
revenue .

Today, films and TV shows coming out of Hollywood no longer have political agendas, strict censorship codes, or follow conservative American values that existed in the Golden Age. In addition, today moviegoers no longer yearn for deep, meaningful movies that the Golden Age provided or care to take influence from Hollywood. Hollywood today is far less controlled politically than it was in the Golden Age, but today still tries to influence viewers on what really goes on in politics in a negative light. Hollywood is No Longer controlled by Tradition Conservative Values. Historian Franklin states the movie industry was a monopoly until 1960. (Franklin 37). That from the Golden Age, spanning from the 1920s to the 1960s the movie industry was capable of controlling the content of its films (Franklin 37). In fact, Hollywood did a very good job of doing so, because most of the movies and shows before the 1960s had very traditional American conservative values with the strong patriarchal father figure with a conventional family module. One example of these shows with strong American values that I can think of that my parents grew up watching was Leave it to Beaver. Hollywood producers and directors had these values under their grasp to portray how American families should be among viewers. There is a far less political monopoly on themes coming out of ... • 6. Constructivism Essay Empiricists and rationalists have proposed opposing theories of the acquisition of knowledge, which appear unable to coexist. Each theory holds its own strengths but does not demonstrate a strong argument in itself to the questions, Is knowledge truly possible? and How is true knowledge obtained? . Immanual Kant successfully merged the two philosophies and provided a convincing argument with his theory of empirical relativism, or what some may call constructivism. His theory bridges the gap between rationalismand empiricism and proves that empiricists and rationalists each present a piece of the full puzzle. In order to truly understand Kant s epistemology, one must first review and understand both empiricism and rationalism on an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This initiates the principle of induction, which is the assumption that the future will be like the past. An example of this would be every time smoke is seen, one will inevitably look for the fire that is causing the smoke. This is because based on previous experiences, it is known to be true that fire causes smoke. One notable problem with pure empiricism is that it does rely upon reasoning. If the concept of causality is true, there must be some form of reasoning to be able to relate one action to a reaction. Hume s principle of induction assumes that one experience will be similar to a previous experience under similar circumstances. It takes a measure of reasoning to assume that the previous experience of dropping a glass would result in the same consequence when dropping a vase. To account for this, Hume believes that reason draws connections between concepts in the mind, but it cannot form connections between those ideas in the external world (Lawhead, 2010). Hume divided reasoning into 2 categories: namely, relations of ideas and matters of fact. This dichotomy between relations of ideas (which are logically necessary, but tell us nothing about the world), and matters of fact (which tell us about the world, but which are not certain), is often called Hume s fork (Lawhead, 2011, p. 108). Rationalism In contrast to empiricism, rationalists claim that knowledge is gained from reasoning. It is through reason that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ball shooter is then released the spring decompresses and strikes the ball sending it up the incline to the top of the pinball playing field. The strike on the ball is called the impulse. The time interval it takes for the ball momentum to change. Since the ball has no momentum because it has zero velocity the ball shooter transfers its momentum at the impulse (The Ball Shooter 2003). Readers heavily associate famed Japanese author Haruki Murakami with the genre of magical realism and consider his novel Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage to be a departure from that genre, but realism hardly characterizes Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and its multitude of fantastical elements. Readers encounter dreams that ambiguously blend into reality, characters who straddle multiple realities, and a narrative that unabashedly abandons a linear and chronological structure. Murakami creates an intersection between these two antithetical realities through Shiro s pregnancy. After her rape allegedly by Tsukuru Shiro becomes pregnant. Her pregnancy represents a junction between the two realities because it is a real and physical consequence that manifests in Tsukuru s reality based on an act committed in Shiro s reality. Although Murakami presents the reality in which Tsukuru is the victim first, he never fully gives one reality preeminence over the other as the plot unfolds. Instead, even Tsukuru finds himself unable to pick which of these realities represents an objective truth. Furthermore, Murakami prevents his audience from assuming the supremacy of either Tsukuru or Shiro s realities by paralleling their journeys as victims. Similarly, after her assault, Shiro develops such a severe eating disorder that at one point [...] she was down to under ninety pounds (Murakami 252). Michele Song s files were sealed by the law, and at the age of 31, after 13 years of petitioning, a social worker was allowed to give non identifying information about her birth motherand father. Eventually the social worker allowed Song to write a letter in the hopes she could get it to her. Michele Song waited for her daughters birth to contact her birth mother in the hopes of meeting her (Carroll 355). Let Me Die Let Me Die I Want Eternity In May Miller s Poem Death is not Master the persona explains that death is not the master that will increase desperation, but it is a way to become eternally calm. Many poems on the topic of death explain how it is as powerful of a thing that fears the existence of human beings, but Miller s persona death is used in such way to achieve eternal serenity. She explains death as something that can end all the worlds tears, desires and tension and transform the human memory into a sculpture which is unaware of tensions. Miller s persona believes that by blocking death it will be unfair as it will be a barrier to the everlasting happiness and calmness that lies inside the grave. It is an elaboration of Christian beliefs of how death ends all worldly problems as an eternal life starts after the death. The eternal life of a human or corpse after death is same as that of sculpture which shines at night and remains in one place free of all tensions and problems. As the life after death is full of calmness and happiness, so it must not be blocked and everyone must welcome it to gain the everlasting lasting life. Thus, conveying Miller s idea of how the perspective death is not the master; instead, it is the slave of eternal life of serenity and calmness that lies ahead. The Whiskey Rebellion and the Whiskey Tax The Whisky Rebellion In 1791, under President George Washington, there was a vigorous debate within the House of Representatives to approve legislation to enact an excise tax on whiskey. They choose to pass this law 35 211 because of Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, who was the secretary of the treasury at the time, was faced with the task of paying off the U.S. debt after the revolution. Hamilton was an avid believer in a strong central government which requires a lot of funding. He realized there was an abundance of alcohol circling around the U.S. at the time that was being both imported and created here that could be taxed. Hamilton stated that there would be millions of gallons imported into New York that would potentially give the government two hundred thousand pounds1. Hamilton particularly pushed this tax to be passed more as a measure of social discipline than as a source of revenue . Today, people may regard Hamilton s remark of limiting alcohol consumption to qualify him as semi prohibitionist. However, Hamilton had a point when he spoke about social discipline and drinking. When reviewing the health issues of excessively drinking that we currently understand in modern times, drinking was quite a serious problem in the 18th century. At one point in time, Hamilton s doctor limited him to consume no more than three glasses of wine per day.
