The fonts they usein the magazine cover are all san-serif which is a very
relaxed font for people to feel easy while they are reading. The title has got
cracks in it to add a feeling of emergency to the cover. The writing is all in its
appropriateplace but they have made it look chaotic which makes it feel
exciting when you read it. The designer of the typography of this frontcover
did a successfuljob in making letting the reader know what’s insidebut not
knowing enough so they wantto open it and read on. With the typography
they had added the Anarchy symbolwhich makes it seem more rebellious
which makes it appeal to that certain type of audience ‘ANARCHYINTHE US
WITH FOXBORD HOTTUBS!.’
The front cover is very conventionalto the rock genre with the brightcolours
against the dark colours, and it’s got 2 famous rock bands on the frontto pull
in the audience who like them. It’s a typical frontcover layout because it’s got
the title at the top all big then it’s got the main topic in a big picture justunder
and then the smaller stories at the bottom.
The colour scheme of this cover is mainly yellow and green. Yellow againstthe
dark gives a little bit of hope in the darkness on the main image the guy on the
left has a kind of fun and friendlier look about him. The colours they used for
the cover havemade it relate to the audience who read it because this is the
main scheme for green day it also make it very eye-catching for the reader
with the brightcolours againstthe darker backgrounds. Allthe colours they
have used have a good contraston each making them easy to see and it makes
it stand out. Ithas a lot of white, yellow and purple colours which make it
appeal to a younger audience.
They have made the text in a senseof emergency which makes the reader
want to open it and see what’s going on inside for example ‘FREE FOO
FIGHTERS POSTERSPECIAL!’ allof the text is in capitals which makes it feel like
it’s being shouted at you and makes you want to see what the poster could be,
‘ANARCHYINTHE US WITH FOXBORD HOTTUBS!’ they usethe would anarchy
because it is a really powerfulword that isn’t used much but it makes
everything feel chaotic after it. The way they are talking to the reader is
informal making the audience feel a lot morecomfortable reading the
magazine cover.
The magazine cover is very cluttered which
makes it feel very exciting and energetic
which makes it stand out when it’s on a
rack with other magazines this will make it
people spotit out and they made the top
half of the cover Green Day so fans of
Green Day will see this and walk over to it
to check it out and see if they like it. Also
the band has over covered ‘KERRANG’
which makes it more dynamic and also the
title is so well known it doesn’tneed be in
full view of the audience becauseit’s such
a big music magazine. The ‘Z’ in magazines
is the route that people go through when
looking at the cover so they try and put the most relevant information in that
route. The 1st
line they will be following will obviously be the title of the
magazine which is Karrang people who like this magazine will be broughtin
straightaway. The 2nd
line goes through the main topics like in this cover its
green day so people who like Green Day will be drawn in straightaway. Then
the 3rd
line has little extras like in this on it has ‘free foo fighters poster’ so it
will bring in the people who like theses certain extras.
They used these images to appeal to the reader
they are of celebrities that could be a big influence
on them. The artists are
 Green Day
 Foo Fighters
 Trivium
Theses celebrities have a big influence on
teenagers and adults who listen to them now.
They might be interested in them becauseof how
they look, what they’vedone, their fashion sense
or something else which appeals to them. So when
they see a magazine with a picture of an artist
they like they are instantly going to be drawn to
them. Teenagers who like to be rebellious will like
the whatGreen Day are wearing cause it gives out a senseof isolation among
the crowd with all the black they were. They could also like Foo Fighters for
how inspirational their music is such as learn to fly’ people find it very
inspirational they are also one of the friendlier looking rock groups because
they don’t go extreme on their fashion their image is more of a grungy casual
than anything else which appeal to that type of group. People who see their
favouritegroup or artist will instantly interested.
The way they spelt feedback ‘feed3ack’ because it’s aimed at a young
target audience. The font is san-serif which has no curls in it, it makes
it very eye-catching and modern to the reader because it more
straight to the point than serif. It’s also more masculine so it aimed
at a young male target audience.
The main title is black on red which are very aggressive
colours which also tie in with this type of rock genre. They
made the ‘Karrang’ logo white because it makes it stand out
a lot more than the black. The categories being yellow on
black, yellow is a colour for danger and warning and black is
gloomy and aggressive so mixing to gather makes it feel like
there is a lot of danger inside and it goes with the rest of the
house style aggressive and dark.
They address the audience informally so it makes them feel more
relaxed and easy while reading the magazine. Underneath most page
numbers there’s is a little description on what it holds.
The layout of the magazine is cluttered but in a very organized way.
They have also put some page numbers in stars so it stands out more
to the reader. They also add a monthly subscription in every contents
page for self-advertisement. They have also put the contents on the
right in a bright white box so it visually easy to see and eye-catching.
This context page is very similar to others I have seen its got page
numbers and what is on that page in the context box, and it’s got
smaller images that relate to the certain stories. It relates to other
rock context pages because it’s very dark and grungy and the writing
is very aggressive like the genre music.
In the main image is shows an image from a live concert which shows
a lot of energy and excitement.
Typography
They typography of the double page spread has been made to look
like it was made by a teenager sketching in a notebook while bored
which will make it appeal to teenagers who like to doodle in class. It
looks like it has been coloured in which is quite immature and
childish. They coloured in the word dinosaur in red because it’s more
of an aggressive word than the others used and makes it feel like the
story is quite exciting while reading. The claw marks in the page
make it look more dynamic and exciting while reading it emphasises
how he compares his journey with the dinosaur. Also having the
colours he chose are bold and eye-catching red for danger and black
for darkness. But the article is written in a small black font for
readers to find the seriousness of the story and are able to relate to
it.
Colour
The choice of the red and black colour scheme stands out on the
white background. They made the quote ‘I love being recognised in
the street’ in red because it is quite dangerous and that appeals to
teenagers and young adults. The entire background of the double
page spread is white which makes all the other colours stand out a
lot more than they actually would. They also used in the main article
red, black, green and white these are all strong colours and have
quite strong emotions attached to them.
Image
They have added a picture of the main bassist Mark Hoppus so
people this member of the band will appeal to it. There is also a
picture of a t-rex which is very small compared to the size of Mark
they did this to emphasize the fact that he is in a very big band and
that he is more superior to the dinosaur. Mark has also got a very
shocked facial expression and he is hunched over the story which is
very humorous.
Layout
The layout of the double page spread is very simplistic the main title
looks like it has been doodled on so it would appeal to rebellious
teens. The name of the article ‘my dinosaur life’ lets the reader know
exactly what they are going to be getting into while they read the
title they would instantly feel keen to read it as of the word dinosaur
which would just do whatever they wanted so it would be compared
to Mark’s life and would make adolescents relate to the story faster.
In the brief it mentions Mark Hoppus and Blink 182 so people who
are fans of either or both of these would be interested in the story.
Target Audience
The target audience is aimed at teenagers and adults in there early
20’s because of how rebellious the article is made to be. People
could be attracted to it because of their favourite bassist Mark
Hoppus is on it or the fact that he’s in Blink 182. Most people like to
read an article to leave everyday life and feel a part of someone
else’s.
Mode of Address
The mode of address used in the article is very rebellious and childish
which helps it relate to teenagers who like to be disobedient in
school or at home. It relates to young adults because they would of
liked the band when it was in their teens and they would like to keep
up with the trends of their time so they would read it to feel like they
did years before.
Conventions
As a typical double page spread it’s got everything that it needs it’s
got a brief on the story a image that is entertaining and eye-catching.
Then it’s the article in the newspaper style making it seem very
formal but it’s very informal. For a rock double page spread it’s got it
all a crazy image of the main story It’s got the bizarre story heading
which all rebellious people will be drawn to.

Task 2 ~Front Cover Reveiw

  • 1. The fonts they usein the magazine cover are all san-serif which is a very relaxed font for people to feel easy while they are reading. The title has got cracks in it to add a feeling of emergency to the cover. The writing is all in its appropriateplace but they have made it look chaotic which makes it feel exciting when you read it. The designer of the typography of this frontcover
  • 2. did a successfuljob in making letting the reader know what’s insidebut not knowing enough so they wantto open it and read on. With the typography they had added the Anarchy symbolwhich makes it seem more rebellious which makes it appeal to that certain type of audience ‘ANARCHYINTHE US WITH FOXBORD HOTTUBS!.’ The front cover is very conventionalto the rock genre with the brightcolours against the dark colours, and it’s got 2 famous rock bands on the frontto pull in the audience who like them. It’s a typical frontcover layout because it’s got the title at the top all big then it’s got the main topic in a big picture justunder and then the smaller stories at the bottom. The colour scheme of this cover is mainly yellow and green. Yellow againstthe dark gives a little bit of hope in the darkness on the main image the guy on the left has a kind of fun and friendlier look about him. The colours they used for the cover havemade it relate to the audience who read it because this is the main scheme for green day it also make it very eye-catching for the reader with the brightcolours againstthe darker backgrounds. Allthe colours they
  • 3. have used have a good contraston each making them easy to see and it makes it stand out. Ithas a lot of white, yellow and purple colours which make it appeal to a younger audience. They have made the text in a senseof emergency which makes the reader want to open it and see what’s going on inside for example ‘FREE FOO FIGHTERS POSTERSPECIAL!’ allof the text is in capitals which makes it feel like it’s being shouted at you and makes you want to see what the poster could be, ‘ANARCHYINTHE US WITH FOXBORD HOTTUBS!’ they usethe would anarchy because it is a really powerfulword that isn’t used much but it makes everything feel chaotic after it. The way they are talking to the reader is informal making the audience feel a lot morecomfortable reading the magazine cover. The magazine cover is very cluttered which makes it feel very exciting and energetic which makes it stand out when it’s on a rack with other magazines this will make it people spotit out and they made the top half of the cover Green Day so fans of Green Day will see this and walk over to it to check it out and see if they like it. Also the band has over covered ‘KERRANG’ which makes it more dynamic and also the title is so well known it doesn’tneed be in full view of the audience becauseit’s such a big music magazine. The ‘Z’ in magazines is the route that people go through when
  • 4. looking at the cover so they try and put the most relevant information in that route. The 1st line they will be following will obviously be the title of the magazine which is Karrang people who like this magazine will be broughtin straightaway. The 2nd line goes through the main topics like in this cover its green day so people who like Green Day will be drawn in straightaway. Then the 3rd line has little extras like in this on it has ‘free foo fighters poster’ so it will bring in the people who like theses certain extras. They used these images to appeal to the reader they are of celebrities that could be a big influence on them. The artists are  Green Day  Foo Fighters  Trivium Theses celebrities have a big influence on teenagers and adults who listen to them now. They might be interested in them becauseof how they look, what they’vedone, their fashion sense or something else which appeals to them. So when they see a magazine with a picture of an artist they like they are instantly going to be drawn to them. Teenagers who like to be rebellious will like the whatGreen Day are wearing cause it gives out a senseof isolation among the crowd with all the black they were. They could also like Foo Fighters for how inspirational their music is such as learn to fly’ people find it very inspirational they are also one of the friendlier looking rock groups because they don’t go extreme on their fashion their image is more of a grungy casual than anything else which appeal to that type of group. People who see their favouritegroup or artist will instantly interested.

  • 6. The way they spelt feedback ‘feed3ack’ because it’s aimed at a young target audience. The font is san-serif which has no curls in it, it makes it very eye-catching and modern to the reader because it more straight to the point than serif. It’s also more masculine so it aimed at a young male target audience. The main title is black on red which are very aggressive colours which also tie in with this type of rock genre. They made the ‘Karrang’ logo white because it makes it stand out a lot more than the black. The categories being yellow on black, yellow is a colour for danger and warning and black is gloomy and aggressive so mixing to gather makes it feel like there is a lot of danger inside and it goes with the rest of the house style aggressive and dark. They address the audience informally so it makes them feel more relaxed and easy while reading the magazine. Underneath most page numbers there’s is a little description on what it holds.
  • 7. The layout of the magazine is cluttered but in a very organized way. They have also put some page numbers in stars so it stands out more to the reader. They also add a monthly subscription in every contents page for self-advertisement. They have also put the contents on the right in a bright white box so it visually easy to see and eye-catching. This context page is very similar to others I have seen its got page numbers and what is on that page in the context box, and it’s got smaller images that relate to the certain stories. It relates to other rock context pages because it’s very dark and grungy and the writing is very aggressive like the genre music. In the main image is shows an image from a live concert which shows a lot of energy and excitement.
  • 8. Typography They typography of the double page spread has been made to look like it was made by a teenager sketching in a notebook while bored which will make it appeal to teenagers who like to doodle in class. It looks like it has been coloured in which is quite immature and
  • 9. childish. They coloured in the word dinosaur in red because it’s more of an aggressive word than the others used and makes it feel like the story is quite exciting while reading. The claw marks in the page make it look more dynamic and exciting while reading it emphasises how he compares his journey with the dinosaur. Also having the colours he chose are bold and eye-catching red for danger and black for darkness. But the article is written in a small black font for readers to find the seriousness of the story and are able to relate to it. Colour The choice of the red and black colour scheme stands out on the white background. They made the quote ‘I love being recognised in the street’ in red because it is quite dangerous and that appeals to teenagers and young adults. The entire background of the double page spread is white which makes all the other colours stand out a lot more than they actually would. They also used in the main article red, black, green and white these are all strong colours and have quite strong emotions attached to them. Image They have added a picture of the main bassist Mark Hoppus so people this member of the band will appeal to it. There is also a picture of a t-rex which is very small compared to the size of Mark they did this to emphasize the fact that he is in a very big band and
  • 10. that he is more superior to the dinosaur. Mark has also got a very shocked facial expression and he is hunched over the story which is very humorous. Layout The layout of the double page spread is very simplistic the main title looks like it has been doodled on so it would appeal to rebellious teens. The name of the article ‘my dinosaur life’ lets the reader know exactly what they are going to be getting into while they read the title they would instantly feel keen to read it as of the word dinosaur which would just do whatever they wanted so it would be compared to Mark’s life and would make adolescents relate to the story faster. In the brief it mentions Mark Hoppus and Blink 182 so people who are fans of either or both of these would be interested in the story. Target Audience The target audience is aimed at teenagers and adults in there early 20’s because of how rebellious the article is made to be. People could be attracted to it because of their favourite bassist Mark Hoppus is on it or the fact that he’s in Blink 182. Most people like to read an article to leave everyday life and feel a part of someone else’s.
  • 11. Mode of Address The mode of address used in the article is very rebellious and childish which helps it relate to teenagers who like to be disobedient in school or at home. It relates to young adults because they would of liked the band when it was in their teens and they would like to keep up with the trends of their time so they would read it to feel like they did years before. Conventions As a typical double page spread it’s got everything that it needs it’s got a brief on the story a image that is entertaining and eye-catching. Then it’s the article in the newspaper style making it seem very formal but it’s very informal. For a rock double page spread it’s got it all a crazy image of the main story It’s got the bizarre story heading which all rebellious people will be drawn to.
