The Genetic Pathogenesis Of Migraine
Genetics has been shown to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of migraine. The studies in the field
of migraine has advanced tremendously in the last two decades resulting in the development of the
existing knowledge about genetic inheritance of this debilitating disease. However, there is a need to
expand this knowledge in the areas of treatment. Approximately 70% of patients with migraine
reported to have a first degree relative who is also suffering from migraine. The relatives of migraine
patients with aura has a four times increased risk of developing migraine (Medscape). The studies
conducted among the twins and families of migraine patients have shown that migraine with aura
(MA) and migraine without aura (MO) have a heritability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hemiplegia associated with FHM typically resolves. It is also accompanied with cerebellar ataxia
that is related to the 19p locus. So far three genes are recognized as causing FHM. The type I FHM is
caused by mutations in theCACNA1A gene located on 19p13. FHM type 2 is linked to mutations in
the ATP1A2 gene and the type 3 is attributed to the mutations in the SCN1A gene. Migraine is also
associated with other inherited disorders such as mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic
acidosis, and stroke like episodes (MELAS) as well as cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with
subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL). Migraine is also a common clinical
manifestation of various genetic vasculopathies such as retinal vasculopathy with cerebral
leukodystrophy (RVCL) and hereditary infantile hemiparesis, retinal arteriolar tortuosity, and
leukoencephalopathy (HIHRATL). These two vasculopathies are autosomal dominant disorders.
However the process by which these genetic vasculopathies causing migraine is still not

Syrian Immigration Policies
Purpose
Canada s current immigration policies are failing to meet the diverse and unique needs of Syrian
refugees. The purpose of this briefing note is to present recommendations regarding the resettlement
of Syrian refugees in Canada, as there is a need for improved health and social support services. Social
workers in particular have a crucial role in the resettlement and successful integration of Syrian
refugees in Canada.
Background Information and Summary of Key Points
In response to the ongoing conflict in Syria, the Government of Canada, private sponsors and other
organizations plan to resettle over 25,000 Syrian refugees (Government of Canada, 2016).
Refugee status is determined in accordance with the eligibility criteria and regulations ... Show more

Acculturation and integration is often a stressful process for both individuals and families (Lacroix,
2003). Therefore as social workers, it is vital to recognize and understand the history, traditions,
values, family structures and cultures of refugees, as those deeply rooted experiences shape and alter
their lives (Thomas Bernard Moriah, 2007).
Recommendations
Improve access to information on how to navigate necessary health and social services.
Offer health and social services in the client s own language, which may involve hiring Syrian
refugees with lived experiences, interpreters, and/or cultural brokers.
Implement mandatory education and training programs on the complex nature of resettlement and
integration to ensure health care and social service providers are practicing in a culturally competent
and safe way.
Create links between different services and improve collaboration between those services (i.e.
employment, education, housing, social support, and health care

The European Parliament s Quest For Limit Its Market Control
Perhaps the most critical approach to Google s position has been the European Parliament s quest to
limit its market control. The company, which controls over 90% of searches in many European
countries, has faced a number of legal challenges from the European Parliament in recent years.
The European Union is known for its criticism of antitrust probes it challenged Microsoft s position as
a market leader a few years ago. It has since turned its attention towards Google and criticised the
search giant for abusing its market position.
EU has accused the company for its anticompetitive practises, claiming the company promotes its own
services over those of its rivals. The European Parliament has called the company to unbundle its ...

While there are many who have welcomed the EU s decision to go after Google s monopoly position,
the US government has sometimes accused the EU for looking after its own interests. Nonetheless, the
US Federal Trade Commission did look at antitrust complaints against Google earlier, but decided not
to pursue stronger action.
The dangers of a digital monopoly
But should digital monopolies be limited? Are there any dangers associated to companies such as
Google having such a big market share? The following are some of the dangers of a digital monopoly
and the reasons why regulators are right to keep an eye on market position.
Problems over the ownership of data
Many experts, who argue against digital monopolies, aren t necessarily concerned about the market
positions per se or their influence on the competition, but the ownership issues over data. Companies
such as Google are able to collect a vast amount of data from their users through the different
operations and use this data in order to stay ahead of other businesses.
Furthermore, many argue the company hasn t always acquired this data through appropriate measures.
For example, Google has been accused of using exclusive deals in order to attract new customers and
that some of its services collect data without its customers

My Spiritual And Discipleship Condition Essay
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any
wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (KJV Ps. 139:23 24). In this verse, David asks
God to help him search his heart so that he can be closer to God. Without God, the process of self
evaluation is impossible as David states in his psalm. What makes David such a good source for
advice? In the Bible, David is known as a man after God s own heart (1 Sam. 13:14). If David
recognized the importance of self evaluation, then every Christian should continually evaluate
themselves according to God s principles in the Bible. In this paper, I will be examining my spiritual
and discipleship condition in relation to myself, God, and others.
In relation to myself, my biggest weakness would be my fear and anxiety. My biggest fear is change.
In the past, I have had many bad experiences with change. For example, the most traumatic change in
my life was the move from England to South Korea. The leaving behind of friends, culture, and
comfort caused great distress. Another challenge and change was moving from South Korea to
America when my mother became very sick. This change had a very big impact on anxiety as the fear
of losing my mother changed me emotionally. During sixth grade, I went to the middle school and was
bullied. This experience motivated me to become homeschooled. The most recent big change that I
experienced was going to college. Because of my past traumatizing change,

Low Voter Registration
One of the primary causes for low voter turnout in the United States is low voter registration. In order
to vote in state, local, or federal elections, citizens are required to be registered by a certain date before
the election. People can register in person, by visiting a state affiliated election facility, or by mailing
their registration forms, postmarked no later than the registration date. Additionally, only 31 states
including the District of Columbia give voters the option of registering online. Considering this fact
and that we are living in an age with great technological advances, 31 states is far too few. Hence,
New York s inability to modernize voter registration and reach out to new voters effectively lowers the
number of registered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bad news is that all of these policies need to be approved by the state legislature which
notoriously has had a track a record for stalling and not allowing many of these changes to be
implemented. For instance, in 2014 the Democrat controlled State Assembly passed legislation that
would establish 2 weeks of early voting, but the Republican controlled State Senate blocked the
legislation from passing. Similarly, the battle for same day registration in the state legislature has been
ongoing since 1988, when current Governor Andrew Cuomo s father, Mario Cuomo was the Governor
of New York and had suggested making registration deadlines as late as possible. He had also
appointed a special task force to study voter turnout and come up with a solution to resolve low voter
turnout. The special task force ultimately proposed implementing same day registration to the state
legislature. The existing power struggle between Democrats and Republicans in the state government
have made it all, but impossible for voter registration reform. However, New York s future looks
bright as there are more and more state officials speaking up and getting on board with many of the
proposed registration

PE Investment Analysis
In the last decade, PE has emerged as a significant source of capital for funding infrastructure projects.
Traditionally, equity for infrastructure projects was typically contributed by the sponsors and
developers of the project. A major portion of the project investment was often obtained through debt
financing, which accounted for about 6o% 7o% of the total investment required. Non sponsor
investment has been largely in the form of debt, except in the case of public equity offerings. The rise
of PE investment has led to the availability of a new pool of capital for infrastructure projects, where
the need for capital is substantial. Unlike other external sources of funding, PE investors are active
investors. They usually provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An inference from this is that governments should not only create conditions to facilitate foreign PE
investment, but they should also take bold steps to develop the domestic PE industry. The presence of
a strong domestic PE industry would be a catalyst to attract further foreign PE investment. A large
proportion of investments in our sample consisted of single investor deals. The study of solely
financed and syndicated deals highlighted the main motivations for syndication. The average
investment amount in syndicated deals was higher than that of deals where there was only a single
investor. However, there were no significant differences in the state variables between sole and
syndicated deals. This showed that both sole and syndicated deals were taking place in similar
operating environments. If the motivation of syndication was to leverage the diverse expertise among
the investors with a view to reducing risk, then syndicated deals would have been expected in riskier
environments, for example in states where the level of corruption was higher or the PRI value was
lower. Since this has not been the case, we feel that capital pooling in order to fund larger projects has
been the main motivation for syndication, rather than the ability to assume a higher level of operating
environment risk. The overall characteristics of the operating environment also play an important role
in attracting PE investment. Regional analysis shows that the East had the lowest

Macbeth and Gladiator
Shakespeare powerfully focuses on the negative consequences of ambition in the text Macbeth and in
the film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott and how it can lead to one s downfall. Macbeth is shown
as the noble hero by the King after slaying the Thane of Cawdor and claiming victory in the war for
Scotland, while Ridley Scott s Gladiator portrays Maximus as the noble hero but still not comparing to
Macbeth like Commodus does in the film. Shakespeare effectively focuses on the cynical
repercussions of ambition in Macbeth and how it can lead to one s failure. Macbeth is shown as a
wellborn protagonist after being regarded as Noble Macbeth by the King of Scotland, King Duncan

Macbeth is slain as a tyrant and Lady Macbeth takes her own life. Shakespeare does not give either
character the opportunity to enjoy what they had achieved, suggesting that it is more satisfying to
achieve your goals fairly than to achieve them through corruption. Ridley Scott powerfully focuses on
the negative consequences of ambition in Gladiator and how it can lead to one s downfall. Using a
similar storyline to Shakespeare s Macbeth he uses similar character structures but also giving them
many differences. Commodus ambition begins after he kills his father Emperor Marcus Aurelius
because he feels that his father did not love him enough and becomes the Emperor of Rome. Marcus
says that Commodus is not a moral man and that he cannot rule . Commodus is the Macbeth character
in Gladiator but is still not the main character. The main character in the film is Maximus who
resembles Macduff in the film. While still being shown as a great fighter, Commodus is also shown in
the film as a bit of a coward, after Maximus wins the war for Rome, Commodus shows up late to the
victory celebrations acting as if he wasn t even aware of a war even existing. Quickly after being
crowned as Emperor of Rome, Commodus becomes disliked by the Senate and the people of Rome
and seen as a pathetic leader. Commodus uses the ambition to be like his father to create barbaric

Effects Of Cardiac Rehabilitation On The United States Essay
Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of mortality in the United States (Hall Lorenc, 2010).
Evidence has shown that cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is beneficial for the secondary prevention of
cardiovascular disease (McLeod, Brooks, Taylor, Currie, Dewhurst, 2004; Zullo, Dolansky, Jackson,
2010). Cardiac rehabilitation is a versatile program that encroaches upon many disciplines in order to
create an optimal medical therapy that seeks to educate patients through counseling to make
behavioral changes that will improve their health status. The goal of CR is to reduce the risk of repeat
cardiac events, improve cardiovascular health, and reduce all cause mortality with the use of evidence
based guidelines (Lawler, Filion, Eisenberg, 2011; Lobelo, Stoutenberg, Hutber, 2014). Exercise
therapy is a key factor to programming. Effective training protocol that elicits a high rate of
compliance will produce positive outcomes. Although moderate intensity continuous training has been
the main training regimen recommended in cardiac rehabilitation guidelines, Ito, Mizoguchi, and
Saeki (2016) found high intensity interval training reported to be more effective in the clinical and
experimental setting from the standpoint of peak oxygen uptake and central and peripheral adaptations
in their review. This study is essential to the field of exercise science, particularly cardiac
rehabilitation (CR), because it adds to the ever evolving paradigm of program design

Poverty And Homelessness
Poverty and homelessness are very serious problems in the United States. In January of 2013 the count
of people identified as homeless was larger than 600,000 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Many factors go
into what makes this population so large, however this paper will focus on how much race plays a role
in homelessness and poverty.
Systems (Ecological) Theory Systems theory is a perspective that places emphasis on understanding
how people fit into their environments (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). In systems theory if a specific
person, let s call them Greg, has one system that s not functioning properly, then the rest of their
systems will most likely not work as well (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Greg is homeless, and his
family won t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White homeless women had higher rates of hospitalization than homeless women of color (Jones,
2016). When talking about poverty, which is very obviously related to homelessness, people of color
are far more likely to be in poverty than white people. In 2012 the median income for households of
people of color, $33,321 for black households, and $39,005 for latinx households, was much lower
than white households, $57,009 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). This means that households of color
earned less than two thirds less than white households (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). If people of color
are making less than white people, and face discrimination in employment as well as housing, then it s
obvious why they are more likely to be in poverty and experience homelessness. To combat the
discrimination that homeless people face, social workers often must push for a change in a way that
will allow for one of their main systems, security, to be stable. One example of how this is done is by
doing something that s called rapid re housing. Rapid re housing is the process of immediately
removing families out of homelessness and into permanent housing by aiding in deposits, rent, and
utilities (Homelessness, 2015). Before rapid re housing they would place people in run down homes
for at maximum of two years. Not only does rapid re housing cost less, but it has an 85% outcome of
households being stably housed after the assistance ends (Johnston Kunkel, 2014).

Comparing The Pursuit Of Happiness And Very Happy People
Throughout all of the differences in this world, one thing we have in common is the desire to obtain
happiness. Many articles have been written about the pursuit of happiness and how one can attain it.
With an assortment of articles over the topic, it is only natural for many different views and ideas to be
expressed by the numerous authors. Despite the many differences of opinions and beliefs of many
authors, they all agree that happiness comes from helping others, living to a person s own values, and
knowing what the true definition of happiness is. Carlin Flora s article The Pursuit of Happiness and
Ed Diener and Martin Seligman s Very Happy People agree that even the happiest people do not have
feelings of ecstasy or euphoric emotions. Flora, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, some of those great emotions will fade away, and some will help happiness be consistent. In
The Pursuit of Happiness and Very Happy People, there are similar points supporting the theory that
happiness comes from helping others. Once again, there are reliable resources to back these claims,
including another article, Just For the Joy of it. This article was written by Vicki Zakrzewski to
address the topic of altruism. Altruism is a natural part of all of us, states Zakrzewski as she talks
about the practice of selfless concern for others (Zakrezewski 22). Flora shows her full support of
Zakrzewski s statement when she encourages the reader to perform acts of kindness for others on a
regular basis to lift your mood in the moment and over time (Flora 69). Diener and Seligman s results
showed that the very happy people had good social relationships. Good social relationships are formed
on selflessness and sacrifice, further proving that altruism is a large factor in happiness. While making
others feel good can increase happiness, it can also stem from making one s self feel good, both
physically and

Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish
John Steinbeck suggests that to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to
himself . Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth defect, such as a
birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world around them or
lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not visible to others in
society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe case of PTSD after
returning from war that causes his actions to seem abnormal to those around him, even his family.
Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him, the materialistically obsessed, are
difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish , Salinger depicts how
life is for the monsters like Seymour in such a materialistic society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man
to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around him. Searching for an escape from such an
uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for help before committing to his eventual demise.
Salinger begins his depiction of Seymour through disdain before he brings the audience to his heart
breaking conclusion. Salinger indicates that the emotionally fragile cannot survive in a materialistic
and superficial society because society is not willing to accept those who are different. Salinger begins
his short story by depicting a materialistic society; in turn, he creates

Silicon Valley Stereotypes
Zero point four percent of women in colleges and universities are majoring in Computer science.
(Khazan 1). No other industry in the world has such a skewed uniformity such as the tech world, and
no television show captures this uniformity like Silicon Valley. Silicon Valley is based on the Northern
California region with the same name which is considered the mecca of the tech world home to large
companies such as Apple and Google. Unfortunately Silicon Valley contains many negative
stereotypes about women. The first harmful stereotype in the show is the portrayal of women as only

This skewed representation has raised many alarms in outside circles on why the tech industry deals
with such uniformity. In the show Silicon Valley this stereotype of women not being leaders is subtly
perpetuated throughout the series. In episode one we are introduced to two companies that are
competing against each other. The first company is Hooli incorporated which has a male CEO,
looking closely in the boardroom the only gender represented is male, however the only females
present in the office are the female secretaries. The same uniformity is present in the competing firm,
male CEO, male president, male board members, and female secretary. Throughout the entire first
season not one woman holds a position in leadership, and when we are introduced to a female
character she usually holds a position working as an assistant to one of the male characters. Silicon
Valley deals with the issue of not injecting women into higher power position, unfortunately many of
these stereotypes are found in many industries around the world. The portrayal of women as being
incapable of being good leaders leads to a male dominated managerial system. A study conducted by
the Wall Street Journal finds that Only ten percent of directors at Silicon Valley are women. (Wells 2)
this glass ceiling keeps women from reaching position that they are fully qualified for, just because
they are perceived to be ineffective

An Analysis Of Anne Rice s Interview With The Vampire
Good and evil each have multiple definitions and could be used to refer to many different situations
involving people, ideas, products, or places. Depending on which situation someone is referring to, the
definition of the term that is used will be altered slightly in order for people to understand the severity
of the situation. According to the Mirriam Webster dictionary, evil is defined as immorally
reprehensible . This definition would typically be used to describe an action or a feeling that a person
possesses which are hateful or sinful. This definition of evil would be the perfect definition to describe
the main characters in Anne Rice s Interview With the Vampire. The three main characters are
vampires who spend their time trying to conceal their urges to bite people s neck an suck their blood
until death has almost fallen upon them, but never until death actually occurs. Louis, Lestat, and
Claudia struggle throughout the novel to suppress their urges to kill and battle with their evil desires.
Lestat is the first character in the novel to become a vampire. He was changed early on in his life and
will live eternally as a vampire. Lestat went around sucking the blood of so many humans, converting
them to vampires. Anne Rice writes portrays to the reader that Lestat could not live alone, so he took
any opportunity he saw to bring humans to the immortal side of life as vampires. This is exactly what

Hieroglyphics and History of Mathematics
Hieroglyphics deal a lot with the history of math, because it was one of the earliest of maths. The
ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to practice the scientific arts. It is said that the Egyptians
introduced the earliest fully developed base 10 numeration systems at least as early as 2700 B.C. The
word chemistry is derived from the word Alchemy which is the ancient name for Egypt. It was
between the third and first millennia B.C. It later then died in 400 AD. This was first used as legal
matters such as commerce, education, literature, and science. This type of math was mostly used by
Egyptians, but there numbering was different than ours today. Instead of them using numbers they
would use pictures to illustrate the numbers.
It is said that hieroglyphics were created by the Egyptian god Thoth. He is said to be the god of the
moon, magic, and writing. Hieroglyph comes from the root word hieros which is Greek meaning
sacred, and the root word glypho which means inscription. Hieroglyphs were first used by Clement of
Alexandria.
It was first used in ancient Egypt, as a decimal numbering system. But the decimal was non positional;
it could deal with numbers of great scale. Egyptian used this method mostly in medicine and
geometry. The earliest known examples of hieroglyphs in Egypt have been dated to 3,400 BC. The
latest date in hieroglyphs was made on the gate post of a temple at Philae in 396 AD. The Egyptians

Class Size College Essay
Harvard is the oldest college in the United States. It is well established and has produced any number
of notable politicians, public figures, and highly successful business people. Harvard gets around
35,000 applications each year for about 1,600 seats and averages around 10 students per class.
Harvard encourages small class sizes to allow a closer student professor relationship and contributes
to the sense of community on campus. Class size reduction is proven to help students socially and
academically. There is an ongoing debate over the precise point at which students begin to benefit
from smaller classes. Although there are advantages and disadvantages of student achievement in class
size reduction, there can be a compromise by using smaller class sizes for those who show a vaster

Relationship Between Mass And Acceleration

In the world of force, when Physicists are talking about apply forces, the relationship between mass

problem centuries ago, it is still crucial to perform an experiment to prove this relationship to enhance

Mindfulness As A Treatment For Depression
Psychology is one of the youngest lines of science and there is still a lot to be learnt about it. Before
the use of anti depressants, one of the first treatments used by psychologists was psychoanalysis which
was founded by Sigmund Freud in 1852. Then later treatments such as electroconvulsive therapy
formally known as electro shock therapy were used. Currently the most common treatment for
depression is medication such as antidepressants as they are proven to be extremely effective in
treating the symptoms of this mental illness. However even though there are so many treatments for
mental illnesses such as depression the biggest issue we face with depression is its habit of being a
reoccurring problem. The purpose of this essay is to discuss mindfulness as a treatment for depression.
In the essay not only its effectiveness towards the treatment and prevention of depression but also how
it treats and prevents depression is discussed. This was until psychologists found a more effective way
to not only treat but prevent the symptoms of depression using mindfulness as a therapy. Although,
mindfulness is not a very well known treatment it has been found to be very effective of turning the
lives around of sufferers of mental illness.
Mindfulness, a seemingly effective and relatively new approach to assist in treatment or prevention of
some mental health disorders; one being depression. Depression affects 121 million people worldwide
and is the cause of over 850,000 deaths each

The Enduring Chill
However, The Lame Shall Enter First is not the only story that exemplifies the idea that faith and
intellectualism cannot intermingle. The Enduring Chill does this as well. Through Asbury, O Connor
portrays intellectuals as disrespectful, whiny, and prideful. In the story, Asbury repeats What s wrong
with me is way beyond you ( Enduring 367). This idea that even his problems are better than others
shows how prideful he is as well as his strong intellectualism, as he believes he is smarter than the
doctor treating him. For O Connor, this was a way to show her audience her distaste for intellectuals.
Asbury also shows disrespect in regard to his mother. For Asbury, the woman who raised him ruined
his life, showing how intellectualism has affected Asbury. According to A. R. Coulthard, Asbury, the
effete failed writer who comes home to let his mother nurse him while he dies in The Enduring Chill,
constantly demeans his parent s lack of intelligence (Coulthard 248). Even though she is taking care of
him, Asbury degrades her, making her seem like a villain and an idiot, which she is not. These actions
are in direct violation of the church, specifically commandment four of the Ten Commandments,
which is Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord
your God gives you ( The Ten Commandments ). Based on this, it becomes clear how faith and
intellectualism are against each other, as Asbury s intellectual pride makes him

Piety And Wisdom In Plato s Five Dialogues By Socrates
Wisdom is a loosely constructed and defined term distinct from person to person; however in the
Athenian period, citizens believed the wise should have a sense of utmost piety and maintain a higher
connection with the gods. In Plato s Five Dialogues, Socrates, an elderly man living in the city of
Athens, questions these religious ideas to further his understanding of religion and how thousands of
people are able to connect with unidentified and personified spirits. Socrates prolongs his skepticism
as he explores the idea of piety and encounters a number of religious experts who end up displaying
more hypocrisy and falsehood than wisdom and maturity. Since questioning or denying the belief of
the gods was a crime during the time of Athens, Socrates was put on trial for the accumulative
accusations that his teachings and questionings corrupted the young and hindered society. In trial,
Socrates explicitly separates himself from devious rhetoric and instead utilizes his observations of the
immoral and narcissistic flaws of the Athenian people to defend his goodwill and appreciation for
identifying the unknown.
As Socrates approaches the court during his trial, it becomes evident that he is fighting more than just
one accusation; Socrates is defending himself against the countless, unresearched accusations that
have been made years before, developing the audience s bias and premature decision of Socrates fate.
Therefore, Socrates believes he has a right to state these

A Room Of One s Own Excerpt
Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own excerpt consisted of important matters that needed to be
brought to the table, but too many people were afraid of speaking up to society s rules. Virginia
implies facts about Shakespeare s life to add that Shakespeare s times was not the best times for
female writers and their opinions. While Virginia imagines Shakespeare s life with a sister, she says,
Any woman in Shakespeare s days should have had Shakespeare s genius (897). Shakespeare s era
was ruled and taught by men and known for the men having very important roles in society, unlike the
women. Virginia repeats the phrase the element of grammar and logic (896) to the emphasis on

Virginia uses the idea of androgyny to explain that the separation of men and women does exist in the

Coleridge believes a great mind is an androgyny (901). As for Shakespeare, the androgyny s meaning
is the androgyny of a man womanly mind (901). The idea of marriage be the result of the women to

the end, Woolf acknowledges that some marriages are only based on intercourse not love like it

The Issues Of The Field Of Psychology
The field of psychology is steadily expanding due to the progression in technology, which is being
driven by the advancement of civilization. More and more time is spent on the internet, which has
gradually altered the method in which primary communication takes place. Previously face to face
interaction was touted as the primary method of interfacing with one another, now communication via
the internet is almost mandatory to establish and maintain healthy relationships (Greenfield and Yan,
2006). This is especially true amongst children, adolescents and teenagers. The need for psychologists
have never been greater in order to assess how individuals are able to acclimate to this societal
change. Traditionally, there are two methods in which children, adolescents and teenagers
communicate via the internet, through social media and video games. Each primary method presents
their own unique social challenge. In response to the issues in of teenagers over use of the internet,
psychologists are providing assistance for internet addictions at a greater rate. The first method
utilized by mental health professionals is traditionally counseling and if those efforts fail, then the
potential exists for adolescents to be placed on medications. In order to establish an informative
baseline, the use of social media amongst children, adolescents and teenagers needs to be addressed.
Developmental psychologists have had a difficult time trying to identify the casual and driving

Essay On Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is defined as the repeated use of technology to harass, humiliate, and threaten others.
Cyberbullying has become the new way to bully others because teenagers have access to their social
media, cell phones, and internet anywhere and at any time. Even though traditional bullying has
occurred for years, researchers and school officials are still searching for solutions to solve the new
form of bullying known as cyberbullying. Since cyberbullying is anonymous a solution to the problem
is harder to find and the bullies do not have to pay for their actions because they never get caught. In
many ways, cyberbullying is worse than traditional bullying because cyberbullying infiltrates every
part of a victim s life and can cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, twelve percent said that they have experienced or taken part in traditional bullying;
however, of those at least ninety five percent said it was meant to be a joke (Duverge). Cyberbullying
is affecting more people each day and is becoming even more vicious the longer researchers are trying
to find a solution. One third to one half of teenagers have been targeted or been a victim of
cyberbullying. Teenagers involved have experienced everything from a decline in academic
performance all the way to committing suicide (Holladay, pg. 5). Although traditional bullying is
slowing down because of the increase in cyberbullying, some teenagers still resort to bullying each
other face to face. Studies show that boys are more likely to bully in person; however, girls are more
likely to bully online. Girls use labels such as slut, whore, etc. during their cyberbullying attacks while
boys mostly make fun of each other s appearances and accuse one another of being gay or too
fashionable (Holladay, pg.6). A majority of cyberbullying begins when one person s desire for
confidence and/or power becomes too strong.
Not only can cyberbullying be done 24/7 and can be done anywhere but everything a teen does is now
done online. The content an individual shares online including personal, negative, mean or hurtful
content creates a permanent record of their views, activities, and behaviors ( What is Cyberbullying ).

With many new factors making the world globalized and as steps were taken toward modernization in

The economy of Eastern Europe in 1700 was based on that of agriculture and products such as wheat
and barley because serfdom was still thriving in Russia. The serfs were the labor force and basis of the
feudalistic type society until the reign of Alexander II. However, while other nations were becoming
modern, the Russia economy was backwards compared to the rest of the world due to the fact that is
was based on a form of slavery. But when industrialization occurred in Russia in the 1860s the
economy had gradually switched to that manufactured good as factory and industry increased. The
railroads from industrialization allowed for easy trade across vast and mountainous territory and also
increased global trade with nations in the West as Russia could trade their various natural resources for

My ultimate vision is to see a Liberia where football once more becomes a national pride. It is sad to

dispute to the ICJ? The international Court of Justice commonly known as the World Court. It is the
central judicial branch of the United Nations, where the Court s role is to resolve legal disputes and to

The Bystander Effect By Bibb Latane And John Darley
Overview On March 13, 1964 thirty eight neighbors failed to intervene when a 28 year old woman
named Katherine Kitty Genovese was being murdered behind the building. (Manning, Levine, Collins,
2007). This incident proposed the experiment of the Bystander Effect by Bibb Latané and John
Darley, among other scientists, to find out why thirty eight people had not done anything to help
during this situation (Latané Darley, 1969).
According to Latané and Darley (1969), The Bystander Effect has three main explanations behind it,
which includes diffusion of responsibility, evaluation apprehension, and pluralistic ignorance (Darley
Latané, 1968). Diffusion of responsibility withdraws a person from exhibiting a helping behavior
when there are other bystanders present because it is expected that others can contribute to the helping
behavior, and that the outcome is not just on one person s shoulders (Latané et al., 2002). On the other
hand, when a person imagines that there are no other people present, or that the people present are not
able to engage in a helping behavior, a person will act as if he or she was alone and will be more likely
to intervene in the situation (Darley, Teger, Lewis, 1973).
Before acting during an emergency, a person is most likely to scan around and observe whether others
are already taking responsibility, or are about to take responsibility for it; if those people in the scene
of an emergency are not doing anything, then the person will feel

Essay How the Elderly Cope with the Death of a Spouse
Ever noticed an elderly couple performing normal daily activities and think to yourself, what would
they do without one another? Many of us have elderly relatives who are either married or have
someone with whom they have a tight bond with, such as a best friend, and we believe they keep each
other alive. We are all born to die, but how we cope with death is different. When someone dies,
persons affected may feel depressed, sad and even angry. Looking at death from a different
perspective, such as a loved one going to a better place, instead of a loss can cause relatives to

Loneliness can be part of the grieving process in such cases where no one can empathize with you.
Loneliness can be prevented by having relatives or friends participate in daily activities such as dinner,
shopping, providing entertainment, and holding conversations. A lonely person may choose not to eat,
bathe and take care of their health because their self worth has diminished. Correspondingly, a person
may avoid going out and isolate themselves. Therefore, it is so important to have someone to check on
a grieving elderly person. Following the death of a companion, the older adult may suddenly become
unhealthy. Elderly widowed people experience a profound degree of loneliness, which has been found
to cause an increase in the level of medical care, medications and mortality (Howie Mcintyre, 2002).
The health of that adult was most likely maintained by the relationship with the now deceased because
they felt they had something to live for. Also, the deceased person could have been providing financial
stability to help pay for medication and food. Now that those resources are taken away, the health of
the older adult may deteriorate increasing stress levels, which in return can present the onset of many
health issues. In addition, when the score (0 76) of ICG is high 6 months after spousal death, the

one of the songs that could have multiple different meanings behind it. The female singer of A Fine

raises the two big questions, one of which is where did her almost lover go? Did he simply leave her
for someone new? Maybe he passed away, and she is still broken hearted about it. Its difficult to know
for sure, but in part of the song, Alison sings about how her almost lover used to sing her Spanish
lullabies. This could mean a few different things, one of which could be that he is Spaniard, and has
left her to go back home to live with his family again. Although it could just simply mean that he is

reason? I realized that the answer to this question was the same answer to the second extremely big
question that came to mind when I realized that he didn t want to leave her either. This other question
that came to mind when dissecting this song was, why did the almost lover have to leave? If he never

Explain What Occurred During The Scientific Revolution
What occurred during the scientific revolution? The scientific revolution was a period of time when
people started doubting the church. The scientific revolution modernizes the ways of thinking
dramatically. Nicolaus Copernicus made numerous discoveries about the universe; one of his
discoveries was the heliocentric theory which contradicts the church. Galileo confirming the
heliocentric theory brought him into conflict with the church. The scientific revolution modernizes the

Nicolaus Copernicus was an astronomer who arose the Heliocentric Theory which caused the
scientific revolution. Copernicus discoveries were very important, and impacted science to this day.
Copernicus constructed his data from his astronomical observations of sun centered cosmology. The
Heliocentric theory is the belief that the sun is in the center of the universe and all the planets revolve
around it. The Heliocentric Theory contradicts The Geocentric. Copernicus s heliocentric solar system

exited the designated area, activated my emergency lights and stopped the vehicle on State Route 924
near Furnace Street.
I exited the patrol vehicle and approached the driver who was observed reaching toward the door
panel. I questioned him about what he was reaching for and he replied he was rolling his window
down. I asked if he had anything in the vehicle where he was reaching and he stated he did not and
told me to check the vehicle. The males hands were shaken vigorously and his face was sweaty.
I requested the operator s license, registration and insurance card. The operator supplied me with the
information and he was then identified through a Pennsylvania driver s license photo as Dennis Dale
MILLER from here on known as the defendant. I proceeded back to the patrol vehicle to check the
status on the defendant s license and the vehicle. During this time it was learned the defendant had an
active warrant out of Schuylkill County for failing to appear for a criminal case.
I approached the driver and requested him to exit the vehicle. I informed him of the warrant and he
was detained, waiting for a response to see if they wanted him placed in the prison.

The Racist Movement
To what extent was the rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 due to Mussolini?
The rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 was largely due to Mussolini himself. It is
worthwhile to examine the consequences of government inefficiency, the growth of the socialist
movement, the support of others as an enabling factor, but his leadership allowed the fascist party to
be relevant, and to take advantage of these other conditions. Though trasformismo and socialism did
destabilise Italian society, it was nevertheless Mussolini who offered solutions; though he assumed
control of the country through Victor Emmanuel s assent, it was him who created alliances to maintain
the position. Thus, Mussolini s opportunist outlook and his command ... Show more content on

In the countryside, the Labour Leagues, a form of rural trade union, was powerful enough to take
control of local governments in areas such as Tuscany and Emilia. In response, the squadristi attacked
the socialist leagues, encouraged by landowners and large farmers, natural supporters of the fascist
movement. By late 1920, landlords and industrialists even began paying for their terror, thus providing
financial support for the fascist party. As a result, right wing violence became tolerated and
normalised, allowing it to breach Italian society. Inevitably, Mussolini s leadership once again proved
to be significant, though he was not directly in control of their activity. He took credit for their role as
protectors, and shifted the position of the fascist programme to be more conservative, in accordance to
the public mood. His pragmatic attitude meant that the fascist programme was less important than its
spirit the heroes and defenders against the red threat . Middle class voters also had cause to support
fascism in its new direction, since the government was perceived to be too lenient with socialism an
example being the Occupation of the Factories in September 1920. In fact, anyone who owned
property, or was better off than an urban worker found appeal in fascism, as it now represented anti
communism, patriotism, but above all, action. It is true that the ras had more direct control of the
squadristi, but Mussolini was the leader who united their causes to take advantage of the socialist
threat that divided Italian society by widening the fascist

Case 1 Bert owned an early historic speed boat which he decided to sell for $50,000. Bert told his
friend James and James said he was very interested and would Bert give James the first right to buy
the speed boat. Bert agreed to do so. After a few weeks Bert asked James if he still wanted to buy the
speed boat. James said he was seriously thinking about it. Bert told James he was going to advertise
the speed boat for sale at $60,000 or near offer on the Historic Speed Boat Club s notice board. In
response to the advertisement in the club Bert received a telephone call from Alphonse. Bert told
Alphonse the speed boat was for sale But someone has right of first refusal. Alphonse then expressed
surprise and asked Bert if he was selling or not. Bert said he was selling the speed boat for $60,000 or
near offer and invited Alphonse to call and inspect the boat. Alphonse called on Bert and after
inspecting the boat offered Bert $50,000 for it. Bert said he would have to speak to James before
accepting. Alphonse then said he would pay Bert the asking price of $60,000. Bert told Alphonse to
wait a minute and Bert went into his office and rang James telling him what Alphonse had said. James
said he would buy the boat for $50,000 as originally agreed. Bert said to James I suppose I have to sell
the boat for $50,000 to you . Bert then told Alphonse about the conversation with James. Alphonse
claimed the speed boat was already sold before the discussion with James. Outline the

The Effects Of Aerobic Exercise On Pregnancy
Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Pregnancy Aerobic exercise is another fantastic type of physical
activity for pregnant women. It is a great alternative for mothers who are apprehensive about
resistance training. Aerobic exercise guidelines for mostly sedentary pregnant women state that they
should perform at about 60% 70% of their heart rate maximum, and guidelines for active pregnant
women suggest they perform at about 60% 90% of their heart rate maximum (11). The United States
guidelines supports exercise throughout the full nine months of pregnancy as a positive decision for
expecting mothers (2).
Just a handful of gains made while aerobically exercising during pregnancy include maintaining
weight, less complications with delivery, a shorter labor, a decrease in stress, less back pain, a
decrease in arterial stiffness, improved posture, increased self confidence, improved insulin sensitivity
and glycogen storing, better sleep, a decreased risk of preeclampsia, decreased pelvic girdle pain, and
an increased quality of life (6, 9, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 23). It is also important to acknowledge that
mothers who exercised 3 months before they became pregnant experienced even more advantages
with a significant decrease in pregnancy discomforts (9). In two separate studies made up of 43 and 37
pregnant women, mothers participated in a moderate aerobic exercise program. In the first study
mothers were trained with general exercise machines, and in the second mothers performed

Aristotle s Value Of Happiness
Human beings spend a lifetime finding the meaning of life and what makes us happy. In Aristotle s
Nicomachean s Ethics, Aristotle gives his own wisdom to his son, Nicomachean on how to achieve the
end goal of life which is happiness. He explores this virtue of happiness through many other
characteristics and virtues. One of the characteristics, Aristotle explores for one to be happy is
moderation. Overindulgence in food, sex, and drinks can lead to dangers in one s life. To obtain
happiness and live a complete life, one must be moderate.
Aristotle asserts that moderation is a mean with respect to pleasures (Aristotle 62). Aristotle takes into
account both the body and soul when discussing pleasures. What gives a person pleasures? In many
cases, food, drinks, sex, listening to one s favorite music, and even hanging out with friends can give
someone pleasure. Overindulgence of pleasures of the body (food, drink, and sex) is limited compared
to the soul (honor and learning) which is unlimited. Aristotle makes the argument that when a person
takes enjoyment in the smelling of apples, roses, or incense (Aristotle 64) they are not licentious since
that smell could remind that person of a past encounter that could signal desire (Aristotle 64).
Aristotle then compares human to animals with the direct reference to a lion; where a lion does not
receive desire because it smells the meat of a cow, but because the lion knows that it will take pleasure
in eating the cow s meat

branded and private label products, treasure hunt shopping environment, low operating costs, strong

John Cobook Biography
JOHN COOK was born at Garven Terrace in Stevenston on the 11th of March 1909. The family
moved to 31 Station Square prior to 1913, and John likely received his education at the Stevenston
Junior Secondary School. He probably left school about the age of 14 and was apprenticed as an iron
moulder at the nearby Ardrossan Winton Foundry.
This came to a halt with the onset of the Great Depression about 1930. For a time he found work as a
labourer on the construction of sea defences along Saltcoats Promenade. John eventually followed his
father into the ICI explosives factory in Ardeer, where he joined the Blacksmiths Department.
At the age of 27, he married a shop assistant named Elizabeth Eve lyn Haire Grant, at Ardeer Parish

The Eastern Fleet was divided into Force A and Force B and March saw Revenge, as part of Force B,
patrolling the waters south of Ceylon, sweeping east by day and west by night. By April, the
Admiralty had realised that the Eastern Fleet was inferior in all respects to the fleet of the Imperial
Japa nese Navy. George Mason writes that the Revenge class ships were con sidered more of a
liability than an asset due to their slow speed and poor anti aircraft armament, and as result were
withdrawn to Africa. Between May 1942 and July 1943, Revenge returned to defensive duties in the
Indian Ocean, spending the period September November 1942 in Durban un dergoing further refits. In
July 1943 Revenge was nominated to return home and she arrived in the Clyde on the 9th of
September.
John returned home on leave a handful of times throughout the war. Anna stated that he rarely spoke
of his wartime experiences, though the mention of Durban and Cape Town, beads and wooden
carvings brought home with him, and photos of villages with straw huts all point ed to his time in
Africa and the Indian Ocean. She recalled that her

History Of An Atom. In This Day And Age, Almost Every...
History of an Atom
In this day and age, almost every educated middle school student would be able to sketch and label a
given diagram of an atom. However, still to this day, not one human has seen what an atom looks like.
Our current atomic model, the same one in which you most likely learnt in 5th grade, is really just an
educated theory, comprised of years of experimental trials and errors. In fact, the original four
elements, introduced by ancient philosopher Aristotle: Fire Air, Water, and Earth, were once believed
the only elements forming natural matter. Although frowned upon by the ancient Greek society,
philosophers Leucippus and Democritus developed their own theoretical understanding of nature.
Their theory concluded that every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His diagram quickly gained the label plum pudding, as the electrons similarly resembled the plum
slices inside of a pudding.
1909: Ernest Rutherford
The atomic model evolved to a familiar diagram following the results of Rutherford s popular gold
foil experiment. Essentially, a student of Rutherford s class had been examining the possible pattern of
positively charged particles contacting the element of gold. While filming the student s examination,
Rutherford noticed that most of the particles flew straight through, and only a tiny portion either
bounced straight back or off of an angle. If Thomson s model was correct, all of the radium particles
should have bounced off of the foil however, they did not. This led Rutherford to believe that the
positive charge of an atom is not equal to the whole of an atom, but rather an even smaller core,
located in the middle of the atom, surrounded by the negatively charged electrons. He concluded that
the atom is mostly empty space, and that most of the atoms mass came from the small central core
which he declared the nucleus.
1913: Niels Bohr
Niels Bohr, a former student of Rutherford, proposed his own theory: the quantum theory. Furthering
Rutherford s model, Bohr insisted that electrons spin around the nucleus in fixed orbits , such as
planets around the sun. The outer inner orbit/s have only a certain amount of constant energy,

The Humanities Of Arts Management
It cannot deny that there are more and more new fields in academic education. One of the most
relevant to me is the arts management. After studied arts management at undergraduate school in
Taiwan, now I am still studying in this field in America. Therefore, I am interested in the education of
the arts management in the US. The aim of the paper is to examine the research paper, The MFA in
Arts Management (Rosenstein, 2013) to understand the arts management s condition in American
education. Furthermore, through this paper, I may understand how hard I need to work in this
discipline and find the academic writing in the field. Following, I will introduce Swales and Feak s
(2012) moves, summarize the research paper, and discuss the writing skill, including structure and
style, in the article.
First of all, the introduction of the each paper is very important. It previews the brief summary for
readers to understand what they will read and makes the reader choice a paper efficiently. Hence, I
want to introduce academic moves from Swales and Feak (2012). Basing on Swales and Feak (2012),
the introduction of the article, the MFA in Arts Management, shows 3 moves. The move 1a describes
how important the issue will be discussed in the article paper. Through the Over its fifty years in the
academy... the move 1a describes that the arts administration, also called arts management, has
developed as a professional field gradually in higher institution. Furthermore, the move 1b is

The And Its Effects On Native American Populations
Socially and clinically these can have crucial implications for Native American populations. At the
social level, it indicates a large problem as the possibility for social maladjustment not only becomes
seen through the eyes of subjective settler citizens within the United States, but it also makes these
subjective opinions objective through the scientific gaze (Foucault, 1988). This, therefore, not only
ensures that Native Americans be prevented access to things like jobs (for employment screening), but
may also be at a higher chance to be criminalized due to their cultural beliefs since the MMPI 2 plays
a role in forensic psychology (Butcher Williams, 2009). Not only that, but, as Oliver (2004) points out,
It is not so much that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to really grasp how to approach such a problem from a social work perspective, it becomes
important to have a firm understanding of what it might mean to have social work aimed at
decolonization. Sium, Desai, and Ritskes (2012) say that Decolonization does not exist without a
framework that centers and privileges Indigenous life, community, and epistemology (p. ii). As such, it
becomes necessary to understand social work s indebtedness to Western epistemological structures
and the necessity for change. Rather than understand this problem as one that operates within an
existential rubric of gains and losses in which the MMPI 2 could achieve some multicultural
understanding, we must begin to think more deeply about the libidinal economies which make such an
achievement impossible at the epistemic and ontological levels. The MMPI 2 s commitment to
Western epistemologies ensures that a shift towards Indigenous ways of knowing would necessarily
undo its project, and, more generally, threaten the entire field of psychiatry as the reason/madness
nexus is thrown into question (Hill et al., 2012; Foucault, 1988). As such, the onus is on the field of
social work to shift its epistemic coordinates to an Indigenous framework. In the specific context of
the MMPI 2, this would require a radical de univerisalization which would not simply attempt to make
room for various cultures in a multicultural ploy for

  • 2. The Genetic Pathogenesis Of Migraine Genetics has been shown to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of migraine. The studies in the field of migraine has advanced tremendously in the last two decades resulting in the development of the existing knowledge about genetic inheritance of this debilitating disease. However, there is a need to expand this knowledge in the areas of treatment. Approximately 70% of patients with migraine reported to have a first degree relative who is also suffering from migraine. The relatives of migraine patients with aura has a four times increased risk of developing migraine (Medscape). The studies conducted among the twins and families of migraine patients have shown that migraine with aura (MA) and migraine without aura (MO) have a heritability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hemiplegia associated with FHM typically resolves. It is also accompanied with cerebellar ataxia that is related to the 19p locus. So far three genes are recognized as causing FHM. The type I FHM is caused by mutations in theCACNA1A gene located on 19p13. FHM type 2 is linked to mutations in the ATP1A2 gene and the type 3 is attributed to the mutations in the SCN1A gene. Migraine is also associated with other inherited disorders such as mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke like episodes (MELAS) as well as cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL). Migraine is also a common clinical manifestation of various genetic vasculopathies such as retinal vasculopathy with cerebral leukodystrophy (RVCL) and hereditary infantile hemiparesis, retinal arteriolar tortuosity, and leukoencephalopathy (HIHRATL). These two vasculopathies are autosomal dominant disorders. However the process by which these genetic vasculopathies causing migraine is still not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Syrian Immigration Policies Purpose Canada s current immigration policies are failing to meet the diverse and unique needs of Syrian refugees. The purpose of this briefing note is to present recommendations regarding the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Canada, as there is a need for improved health and social support services. Social workers in particular have a crucial role in the resettlement and successful integration of Syrian refugees in Canada. Background Information and Summary of Key Points In response to the ongoing conflict in Syria, the Government of Canada, private sponsors and other organizations plan to resettle over 25,000 Syrian refugees (Government of Canada, 2016). Refugee status is determined in accordance with the eligibility criteria and regulations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Acculturation and integration is often a stressful process for both individuals and families (Lacroix, 2003). Therefore as social workers, it is vital to recognize and understand the history, traditions, values, family structures and cultures of refugees, as those deeply rooted experiences shape and alter their lives (Thomas Bernard Moriah, 2007). Recommendations Improve access to information on how to navigate necessary health and social services. Offer health and social services in the client s own language, which may involve hiring Syrian refugees with lived experiences, interpreters, and/or cultural brokers. Implement mandatory education and training programs on the complex nature of resettlement and integration to ensure health care and social service providers are practicing in a culturally competent and safe way. • 4. The European Parliament s Quest For Limit Its Market Control Perhaps the most critical approach to Google s position has been the European Parliament s quest to limit its market control. The company, which controls over 90% of searches in many European countries, has faced a number of legal challenges from the European Parliament in recent years. The European Union is known for its criticism of antitrust probes it challenged Microsoft s position as a market leader a few years ago. It has since turned its attention towards Google and criticised the search giant for abusing its market position. EU has accused the company for its anticompetitive practises, claiming the company promotes its own services over those of its rivals. The European Parliament has called the company to unbundle its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While there are many who have welcomed the EU s decision to go after Google s monopoly position, the US government has sometimes accused the EU for looking after its own interests. Nonetheless, the US Federal Trade Commission did look at antitrust complaints against Google earlier, but decided not to pursue stronger action. The dangers of a digital monopoly But should digital monopolies be limited? Are there any dangers associated to companies such as Google having such a big market share? The following are some of the dangers of a digital monopoly and the reasons why regulators are right to keep an eye on market position. Problems over the ownership of data Many experts, who argue against digital monopolies, aren t necessarily concerned about the market positions per se or their influence on the competition, but the ownership issues over data. Companies such as Google are able to collect a vast amount of data from their users through the different operations and use this data in order to stay ahead of other businesses. Furthermore, many argue the company hasn t always acquired this data through appropriate measures. For example, Google has been accused of using exclusive deals in order to attract new customers and that some of its services collect data without its customers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Spiritual And Discipleship Condition Essay Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (KJV Ps. 139:23 24). In this verse, David asks God to help him search his heart so that he can be closer to God. Without God, the process of self evaluation is impossible as David states in his psalm. What makes David such a good source for advice? In the Bible, David is known as a man after God s own heart (1 Sam. 13:14). If David recognized the importance of self evaluation, then every Christian should continually evaluate themselves according to God s principles in the Bible. In this paper, I will be examining my spiritual and discipleship condition in relation to myself, God, and others. In relation to myself, my biggest weakness would be my fear and anxiety. My biggest fear is change. In the past, I have had many bad experiences with change. For example, the most traumatic change in my life was the move from England to South Korea. The leaving behind of friends, culture, and comfort caused great distress. Another challenge and change was moving from South Korea to America when my mother became very sick. This change had a very big impact on anxiety as the fear of losing my mother changed me emotionally. During sixth grade, I went to the middle school and was bullied. This experience motivated me to become homeschooled. The most recent big change that I experienced was going to college. Because of my past traumatizing change, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Low Voter Registration One of the primary causes for low voter turnout in the United States is low voter registration. In order to vote in state, local, or federal elections, citizens are required to be registered by a certain date before the election. People can register in person, by visiting a state affiliated election facility, or by mailing their registration forms, postmarked no later than the registration date. Additionally, only 31 states including the District of Columbia give voters the option of registering online. Considering this fact and that we are living in an age with great technological advances, 31 states is far too few. Hence, New York s inability to modernize voter registration and reach out to new voters effectively lowers the number of registered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bad news is that all of these policies need to be approved by the state legislature which notoriously has had a track a record for stalling and not allowing many of these changes to be implemented. For instance, in 2014 the Democrat controlled State Assembly passed legislation that would establish 2 weeks of early voting, but the Republican controlled State Senate blocked the legislation from passing. Similarly, the battle for same day registration in the state legislature has been ongoing since 1988, when current Governor Andrew Cuomo s father, Mario Cuomo was the Governor of New York and had suggested making registration deadlines as late as possible. He had also appointed a special task force to study voter turnout and come up with a solution to resolve low voter turnout. The special task force ultimately proposed implementing same day registration to the state legislature. The existing power struggle between Democrats and Republicans in the state government have made it all, but impossible for voter registration reform. However, New York s future looks bright as there are more and more state officials speaking up and getting on board with many of the proposed registration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. PE Investment Analysis In the last decade, PE has emerged as a significant source of capital for funding infrastructure projects. Traditionally, equity for infrastructure projects was typically contributed by the sponsors and developers of the project. A major portion of the project investment was often obtained through debt financing, which accounted for about 6o% 7o% of the total investment required. Non sponsor investment has been largely in the form of debt, except in the case of public equity offerings. The rise of PE investment has led to the availability of a new pool of capital for infrastructure projects, where the need for capital is substantial. Unlike other external sources of funding, PE investors are active investors. They usually provide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An inference from this is that governments should not only create conditions to facilitate foreign PE investment, but they should also take bold steps to develop the domestic PE industry. The presence of a strong domestic PE industry would be a catalyst to attract further foreign PE investment. A large proportion of investments in our sample consisted of single investor deals. The study of solely financed and syndicated deals highlighted the main motivations for syndication. The average investment amount in syndicated deals was higher than that of deals where there was only a single investor. However, there were no significant differences in the state variables between sole and syndicated deals. This showed that both sole and syndicated deals were taking place in similar operating environments. If the motivation of syndication was to leverage the diverse expertise among the investors with a view to reducing risk, then syndicated deals would have been expected in riskier environments, for example in states where the level of corruption was higher or the PRI value was lower. Since this has not been the case, we feel that capital pooling in order to fund larger projects has been the main motivation for syndication, rather than the ability to assume a higher level of operating environment risk. The overall characteristics of the operating environment also play an important role in attracting PE investment. Regional analysis shows that the East had the lowest ... Macbeth and Gladiator Shakespeare powerfully focuses on the negative consequences of ambition in the text Macbeth and in the film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott and how it can lead to one s downfall. Macbeth is shown as the noble hero by the King after slaying the Thane of Cawdor and claiming victory in the war for Scotland, while Ridley Scott s Gladiator portrays Maximus as the noble hero but still not comparing to Macbeth like Commodus does in the film. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Macbeth is slain as a tyrant and Lady Macbeth takes her own life. Shakespeare does not give either character the opportunity to enjoy what they had achieved, suggesting that it is more satisfying to achieve your goals fairly than to achieve them through corruption. Ridley Scott powerfully focuses on the negative consequences of ambition in Gladiator and how it can lead to one s downfall. Using a similar storyline to Shakespeare s Macbeth he uses similar character structures but also giving them many differences. Commodus ambition begins after he kills his father Emperor Marcus Aurelius because he feels that his father did not love him enough and becomes the Emperor of Rome. Marcus says that Commodus is not a moral man and that he cannot rule . Commodus is the Macbeth character in Gladiator but is still not the main character. The main character in the film is Maximus who resembles Macduff in the film. While still being shown as a great fighter, Commodus is also shown in the film as a bit of a coward, after Maximus wins the war for Rome, Commodus shows up late to the victory celebrations acting as if he wasn t even aware of a war even existing. Quickly after being crowned as Emperor of Rome, Commodus becomes disliked by the Senate and the people of Rome and seen as a pathetic leader. • 9. Effects Of Cardiac Rehabilitation On The United States Essay Coronary artery disease is the leading cause of mortality in the United States (Hall Lorenc, 2010). Evidence has shown that cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is beneficial for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (McLeod, Brooks, Taylor, Currie, Dewhurst, 2004; Zullo, Dolansky, Jackson, 2010). Cardiac rehabilitation is a versatile program that encroaches upon many disciplines in order to create an optimal medical therapy that seeks to educate patients through counseling to make behavioral changes that will improve their health status. The goal of CR is to reduce the risk of repeat cardiac events, improve cardiovascular health, and reduce all cause mortality with the use of evidence based guidelines (Lawler, Filion, Eisenberg, 2011; Lobelo, Stoutenberg, Hutber, 2014). Exercise therapy is a key factor to programming. Effective training protocol that elicits a high rate of compliance will produce positive outcomes. Although moderate intensity continuous training has been the main training regimen recommended in cardiac rehabilitation guidelines, Ito, Mizoguchi, and Saeki (2016) found high intensity interval training reported to be more effective in the clinical and experimental setting from the standpoint of peak oxygen uptake and central and peripheral adaptations in their review. This study is essential to the field of exercise science, particularly cardiac rehabilitation (CR), because it adds to the ever evolving paradigm of program design ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Poverty And Homelessness Poverty and homelessness are very serious problems in the United States. In January of 2013 the count of people identified as homeless was larger than 600,000 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Many factors go into what makes this population so large, however this paper will focus on how much race plays a role in homelessness and poverty. Systems (Ecological) Theory Systems theory is a perspective that places emphasis on understanding how people fit into their environments (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). In systems theory if a specific person, let s call them Greg, has one system that s not functioning properly, then the rest of their systems will most likely not work as well (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Greg is homeless, and his family won t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... White homeless women had higher rates of hospitalization than homeless women of color (Jones, 2016). When talking about poverty, which is very obviously related to homelessness, people of color are far more likely to be in poverty than white people. In 2012 the median income for households of people of color, $33,321 for black households, and $39,005 for latinx households, was much lower than white households, $57,009 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). This means that households of color earned less than two thirds less than white households (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). If people of color are making less than white people, and face discrimination in employment as well as housing, then it s obvious why they are more likely to be in poverty and experience homelessness. To combat the discrimination that homeless people face, social workers often must push for a change in a way that will allow for one of their main systems, security, to be stable. One example of how this is done is by doing something that s called rapid re housing. Rapid re housing is the process of immediately removing families out of homelessness and into permanent housing by aiding in deposits, rent, and utilities (Homelessness, 2015). Before rapid re housing they would place people in run down homes for at maximum of two years. Not only does rapid re housing cost less, but it has an 85% outcome of households being stably housed after the assistance ends (Johnston Kunkel, 2014). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Comparing The Pursuit Of Happiness And Very Happy People Throughout all of the differences in this world, one thing we have in common is the desire to obtain happiness. Many articles have been written about the pursuit of happiness and how one can attain it. With an assortment of articles over the topic, it is only natural for many different views and ideas to be expressed by the numerous authors. Despite the many differences of opinions and beliefs of many authors, they all agree that happiness comes from helping others, living to a person s own values, and knowing what the true definition of happiness is. Flora, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, some of those great emotions will fade away, and some will help happiness be consistent. In The Pursuit of Happiness and Very Happy People, there are similar points supporting the theory that happiness comes from helping others. Once again, there are reliable resources to back these claims, including another article, Just For the Joy of it. This article was written by Vicki Zakrzewski to address the topic of altruism. Altruism is a natural part of all of us, states Zakrzewski as she talks about the practice of selfless concern for others (Zakrezewski 22). Flora shows her full support of Zakrzewski s statement when she encourages the reader to perform acts of kindness for others on a regular basis to lift your mood in the moment and over time (Flora 69). Diener and Seligman s results showed that the very happy people had good social relationships. Good social relationships are formed on selflessness and sacrifice, further proving that altruism is a large factor in happiness. • 13. Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish John Steinbeck suggests that to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to himself . Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth defect, such as a birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world around them or lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not visible to others in society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe case of PTSD after returning from war that causes his actions to seem abnormal to those around him, even his family. Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him, the materialistically obsessed, are difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish , Salinger depicts how life is for the monsters like Seymour in such a materialistic society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around him. Searching for an escape from such an uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for help before committing to his eventual demise. The ancient Egyptians were the first civilization to practice the scientific arts. It is said that the Egyptians introduced the earliest fully developed base 10 numeration systems at least as early as 2700 B.C. The word chemistry is derived from the word Alchemy which is the ancient name for Egypt. It was between the third and first millennia B.C. It later then died in 400 AD. Instead of them using numbers they would use pictures to illustrate the numbers. It is said that hieroglyphics were created by the Egyptian god Thoth. He is said to be the god of the moon, magic, and writing. Hieroglyph comes from the root word hieros which is Greek meaning sacred, and the root word glypho which means inscription. Hieroglyphs were first used by Clement of Alexandria. It was first used in ancient Egypt, as a decimal numbering system. But the decimal was non positional; it could deal with numbers of great scale. Before the use of anti depressants, one of the first treatments used by psychologists was psychoanalysis which was founded by Sigmund Freud in 1852. Then later treatments such as electroconvulsive therapy formally known as electro shock therapy were used. Currently the most common treatment for depression is medication such as antidepressants as they are proven to be extremely effective in treating the symptoms of this mental illness. However even though there are so many treatments for mental illnesses such as depression the biggest issue we face with depression is its habit of being a reoccurring problem. The purpose of this essay is to discuss mindfulness as a treatment for depression. This idea that even his problems are better than others shows how prideful he is as well as his strong intellectualism, as he believes he is smarter than the doctor treating him. • 23. Piety And Wisdom In Plato s Five Dialogues By Socrates Wisdom is a loosely constructed and defined term distinct from person to person; however in the Athenian period, citizens believed the wise should have a sense of utmost piety and maintain a higher connection with the gods. In Plato s Five Dialogues, Socrates, an elderly man living in the city of Athens, questions these religious ideas to further his understanding of religion and how thousands of people are able to connect with unidentified and personified spirits. Socrates prolongs his skepticism as he explores the idea of piety and encounters a number of religious experts who end up displaying more hypocrisy and falsehood than wisdom and maturity. Since questioning or denying the belief of the gods was a crime during the time of Athens, Socrates was put on trial for the accumulative accusations that his teachings and questionings corrupted the young and hindered society. In trial, Socrates explicitly separates himself from devious rhetoric and instead utilizes his observations of the immoral and narcissistic flaws of the Athenian people to defend his goodwill and appreciation for identifying the unknown. As Socrates approaches the court during his trial, it becomes evident that he is fighting more than just one accusation; Socrates is defending himself against the countless, unresearched accusations that have been made years before, developing the audience s bias and premature decision of Socrates fate. More and more time is spent on the internet, which has gradually altered the method in which primary communication takes place. Previously face to face interaction was touted as the primary method of interfacing with one another, now communication via the internet is almost mandatory to establish and maintain healthy relationships (Greenfield and Yan, 2006). This is especially true amongst children, adolescents and teenagers. The need for psychologists have never been greater in order to assess how individuals are able to acclimate to this societal change. The Bystander Effect By Bibb Latane And John Darley Overview On March 13, 1964 thirty eight neighbors failed to intervene when a 28 year old woman named Katherine Kitty Genovese was being murdered behind the building. (Manning, Levine, Collins, 2007). This incident proposed the experiment of the Bystander Effect by Bibb Latané and John Darley, among other scientists, to find out why thirty eight people had not done anything to help during this situation (Latané Darley, 1969). According to Latané and Darley (1969), The Bystander Effect has three main explanations behind it, which includes diffusion of responsibility, evaluation apprehension, and pluralistic ignorance (Darley Latané, 1968). Diffusion of responsibility withdraws a person from exhibiting a helping behavior when there are other bystanders present because it is expected that others can contribute to the helping behavior, and that the outcome is not just on one person s shoulders (Latané et al., 2002). On the other hand, when a person imagines that there are no other people present, or that the people present are not able to engage in a helping behavior, a person will act as if he or she was alone and will be more likely to intervene in the situation (Darley, Teger, Lewis, 1973). Elderly widowed people experience a profound degree of loneliness, which has been found to cause an increase in the level of medical care, medications and mortality (Howie Mcintyre, 2002). The health of that adult was most likely maintained by the relationship with the now deceased because they felt they had something to live for. Also, the deceased person could have been providing financial stability to help pay for medication and food. Now that those resources are taken away, the health of the older adult may deteriorate increasing stress levels, which in return can present the onset of many health issues. Maybe he passed away, and she is still broken hearted about it. Its difficult to know for sure, but in part of the song, Alison sings about how her almost lover used to sing her Spanish lullabies. The rise of the fascist movement between 1919 1922 was largely due to Mussolini himself. It is worthwhile to examine the consequences of government inefficiency, the growth of the socialist movement, the support of others as an enabling factor, but his leadership allowed the fascist party to be relevant, and to take advantage of these other conditions. Though trasformismo and socialism did destabilise Italian society, it was nevertheless Mussolini who offered solutions; though he assumed control of the country through Victor Emmanuel s assent, it was him who created alliances to maintain the position. In the countryside, the Labour Leagues, a form of rural trade union, was powerful enough to take control of local governments in areas such as Tuscany and Emilia. In response, the squadristi attacked the socialist leagues, encouraged by landowners and large farmers, natural supporters of the fascist movement. By late 1920, landlords and industrialists even began paying for their terror, thus providing financial support for the fascist party. As a result, right wing violence became tolerated and normalised, allowing it to breach Italian society. Inevitably, Mussolini s leadership once again proved to be significant, though he was not directly in control of their activity. He took credit for their role as protectors, and shifted the position of the fascist programme to be more conservative, in accordance to the public mood. His pragmatic attitude meant that the fascist programme was less important than its spirit the heroes and defenders against the red threat . Middle class voters also had cause to support fascism in its new direction, since the government was perceived to be too lenient with socialism an example being the Occupation of the Factories in September 1920. In Aristotle s Nicomachean s Ethics, Aristotle gives his own wisdom to his son, Nicomachean on how to achieve the end goal of life which is happiness. He explores this virtue of happiness through many other characteristics and virtues. One of the characteristics, Aristotle explores for one to be happy is moderation. Overindulgence in food, sex, and drinks can lead to dangers in one s life. To obtain happiness and live a complete life, one must be moderate. Aristotle asserts that moderation is a mean with respect to pleasures (Aristotle 62). Aristotle takes into account both the body and soul when discussing pleasures. What gives a person pleasures? In many cases, food, drinks, sex, listening to one s favorite music, and even hanging out with friends can give someone pleasure. Overindulgence of pleasures of the body (food, drink, and sex) is limited compared to the soul (honor and learning) which is unlimited. Aristotle makes the argument that when a person takes enjoyment in the smelling of apples, roses, or incense (Aristotle 64) they are not licentious since that smell could remind that person of a past encounter that could signal desire (Aristotle 64). Aristotle then compares human to animals with the direct reference to a lion; where a lion does not receive desire because it smells the meat of a cow, but because the lion knows that it will take pleasure in eating the cow s meat ... Our current atomic model, the same one in which you most likely learnt in 5th grade, is really just an educated theory, comprised of years of experimental trials and errors. Essentially, a student of Rutherford s class had been examining the possible pattern of positively charged particles contacting the element of gold. While filming the student s examination, Rutherford noticed that most of the particles flew straight through, and only a tiny portion either bounced straight back or off of an angle. If Thomson s model was correct, all of the radium particles should have bounced off of the foil however, they did not. This led Rutherford to believe that the positive charge of an atom is not equal to the whole of an atom, but rather an even smaller core, located in the middle of the atom, surrounded by the negatively charged electrons. He concluded that the atom is mostly empty space, and that most of the atoms mass came from the small central core which he declared the nucleus. 1913: Niels Bohr Niels Bohr, a former student of Rutherford, proposed his own theory: the quantum theory. At the social level, it indicates a large problem as the possibility for social maladjustment not only becomes seen through the eyes of subjective settler citizens within the United States, but it also makes these subjective opinions objective through the scientific gaze (Foucault, 1988). This, therefore, not only ensures that Native Americans be prevented access to things like jobs (for employment screening), but may also be at a higher chance to be criminalized due to their cultural beliefs since the MMPI 2 plays a role in forensic psychology (Butcher Williams, 2009). As such, it becomes necessary to understand social work s indebtedness to Western epistemological structures and the necessity for change. Rather than understand this problem as one that operates within an existential rubric of gains and losses in which the MMPI 2 could achieve some multicultural understanding, we must begin to think more deeply about the libidinal economies which make such an achievement impossible at the epistemic and ontological levels. The MMPI 2 s commitment to Western epistemologies ensures that a shift towards Indigenous ways of knowing would necessarily undo its project, and, more generally, threaten the entire field of psychiatry as the reason/madness nexus is thrown into question (Hill et al., 2012; Foucault, 1988).
